“I BTS sono tornati con il loro nuovo singolo ‘Dynamite’ sulla vetta della classifica Billboard Hot 100 per la terza settimana e, nel mentre, hanno battuto altri diversi record. Nella quinta settimana dall’uscita, la canzone in questione ha infatti guadagnato ben 153.000 download, sorpassando qualsiasi altro rilascio del 2020 per il più alto numero di vendite settimanali. Per alcuni è stato oggetto di critiche il modo in cui i BTS sono tornati al primo posto nella classifica di Billboard questa settimana. Come sottolineato dall’account di Twitter di Billboard adibito agli annunci inerenti alle classifiche, questa volta il 52% degli stream della canzone sono stati guadagnati grazie ai suoi nuovi remix ‘Bedroom’, ‘Midnight’, ‘Retro’ e ‘Slow Jam’, rilasciati tutti lo scorso 18 settembre. Fan di altri artisti hanno preso l’uso di questa strategia come scusa per accusare i BTS di aver ‘barato’ per risalire al primo posto in classifica o li hanno direttamente attaccati sostenendo che avessero ottenuto successo su questa’ultima in maniera illegittima. Per tutta risposta, i fan dei BTS hanno sottolineato l’assurdità di tutto ciò, l’assurdità cioè di criticare un gruppo musicale per aver ottenuto grandi traguardi in classifica vendendo...musica, semplicemente musica.

Queste accuse meschine sono, tristemente, molto comuni sullo stan Twitter, e spesso mettono a nudo la memoria selettiva dei fandom. Conveniente come, per questi ultimi, qualsiasi artista, tranne quelli di cui sono fan, per ottenere buoni risultati in classifica debba usare dei giochetti. E comunque, i critici dei BTS potranno anche non approvare la strategia del gruppo di rilasciare molteplici remix della canzone per migliorare i risultati in classifica, ma non potranno mai accusarli di creare pacchetti di download digitali e copie fisiche della propria canzone che non vengono spediti se non dopo mesi e mesi, o di usare la tecnica del bundling e vendere la propria canzone con merce inutile quale pantaloncini, lecca-lecca e preservativi.

La verità è questa: i BTS questa settimana non hanno ‘barato’ per poter arrivare primi in classifica, hanno semplicemente battuto tutti gli altri artisti al loro stesso gioco.

E non occorre andare tanto lontano per trovare musicisti che hanno sfruttato suddetto gioco a loro vantaggio. C’è per esempio Harry Styles che, per dare una spinta dell’ultimo minuto verso la cima della classifica alla sua canzone lenta ‘Watermelon Sugar’, all’inizio dello scorso agosto ha rilasciato tre pacchetti di bundling tra copia digitale e copia fisica, due nuovi video musicali e, durante la stessa settimana di conteggio dei numeri di stream e vendite per la Hot 100, ha promosso uno sconto di 0,69 centesimi sul download della canzone. Oppure ci sono Travis Scott e Kid Cudi che, come specificato proprio da Billboard, hanno spinto il singolo ‘The Scotts’ al primo posto in classifica con ‘quindici configurazioni fisiche’, tanto è vero che nella seconda settimana dal rilascio, la canzone è crollata al dodicesimo posto, una prova di come rimanere primi sulla Hot 100 sia molto più arduo che debuttarci.

Veniamo ora alla questione dei remix: forse coloro che criticano i BTS hanno dimenticato ‘Rain on Me’, il singolo di Lady Gaga e Ariana Grande che, nel corso delle settimane, è stato reso disponibile per lo stream e la vendita in versione originale, strumentale e nei remix di Purple Disco Machine e di Ralph Rosario. E come non menzionare poi ‘Say So’ di Doja Cat e ‘Savage’ Megan Thee Stallion, arrivate entrambe a guadagnarsi il primo posto grazie ai remix in collaborazione con, rispettivamente, Nicki Minaj e Beyoncè.

Ma coloro che hanno accusato i BTS di aver venduto troppe versioni di ‘Dynamite’ forse si sono dimenticati anche di Taylor Swift con le sue sedici edizioni deluxe fisiche (otto versioni del CD e otto del vinile) e la grande quantità di merce e bundle rilasciati per il suo ultimissimo album ‘Folklore’, o della spinta verso il primo posto nella Hot 100 che la cantante ha dato al suo singolo ‘Cardigan’ vendendo un’edizione limitata della traccia in vinile con sopra incisa la sua memo vocale originale e rilasciando una versione ‘cabina al lume di candela’ della canzone disponibile per lo stream e per la vendita.

E, ovviamente, nessuna carrellata di modi bizzarri per ottenere questo primo posto sarebbe completa senza una menzione speciale anche a Drake, il quale ha ufficialmente assoldato ballerini e influencer quali Toosie, Ayo & Teo e Hiii Key perché creassero dei passi per ballare sul suo singolo da primo posto ‘Toosie Slide’ e dare vita e promuovere una dance challenge virale su tutti i social per una canzone, in realtà, all’epoca non ancora rilasciata.

É dunque chiaro, ora, quale sia il trend? Virtualmente ogni superstar pesca dal proprio sacchetto magico e tira fuori il suo asso nella manica per raggiungere le vette di Billboard Hot 100 e 200, l’unica differenza è il loro decidere se rilasciare molteplici remix della canzone, usare i bundle con merce miscellanea o ingaggiare influencer per mettere in piedi challenge virali sui social media. Potrebbe essere legittimo non trovarsi d’accordo con l’eccessiva importanza data da artisti e fan all’avere un album o un singolo al primo posto in classifica e il criticare il fatto che la pressione esercitata dall’intera industria musicale sugli artisti induca questi ultimi a ricorrere a mezzi talvolta anche ridicoli per gonfiare le vendite dei propri progetti, tanto da far diminuire così l’integrità delle classifiche, ma anche in questo caso, non è possibile e non è giusto semplicemente scegliere quali artisti criticare e quali no.

Tutte le star del pop sono ormai in competizione per lo stesso premio: una hit da primo posto. Sono poi gli artisti più furbi e le fanbase più grandi a portarsi a casa l’oro. Sta ai fan, in ogni caso, scegliere come spendere i propri soldi, indipendentemente dalle lamentele dei critici, e in più i numeri di ‘Dynamite’ parlano da soli. I BTS hanno solo imparato come giocare a un gioco che poi, in realtà, può essere vinto in modi molto peggiori che con il semplice vendere la propria musica”.

BTS está otra vez en la cima del Billboard Hot 100 de esta semana con “Dynamite”, anotando su tercera semana en el número uno, y despejando un montón de metas en el proceso. “Dynamite” vendió una impactante cantidad de 153.000 descargas en su quinta semana. Sobrepasando la semana de mayores ventas para cualquier otra canción en este 2020. Es también la primera canción en permanecer por cinco semanas consecutivas en el top del chart de Ventas Digitales, desde “Old Town Road” de Lil Nas X. La canción también se ha elevado al puesto número uno en el nuevo chart, Billboard Global 200, convirtiendo a BTS en el primer acto en gobernar el Billboard Hot 100, Global 200 y Global 200 Excl. US, en simultáneo.

“Dynamite” es también la única canción puramente pop, del 2020, en llegar a la cima del Hot 100 por múltiples semanas, uniéndose a “The Box”, de Roddy Ricch, “Blinding Lights” de The Weeknd, “Rockstar” de DaBaby, y “WAP”, de Cardi B y Megan Thee Stallion. Y esto sin decir nada de “Say So”, de Doja Cat, y “Savage” de Megan Thee Stallion, ambas habiendo saltado al #1 gracias a sus remixes de alto perfil, junto a Nicki Minaj, y Beyoncé, respectivamente.

La gente que ha acusado a BTS de lanzar demasiadas versiones de “Dynamite”, quizás también olvidó a Taylor Swift, quien lanzó 16 versiones deluxe físicas, y una variedad de bundles de mercancía de su último Número 1, el álbum “Folklore”. Swift también potenció su más reciente single #1, “Cardigan”, vendiendo vinilos de edición limitada, que incluían la grabación de voz original de la canción, y lanzando una versión de la canción, llamada “cabin in candlelight”, para comprar y streamear.

Wednesday, November 22, 6.00PM: NEW MOVIE: Kung Fu Panda 2: Now known as the Dragon Warrior, Po (Jack Black) protects the Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow kung fu masters, the Furious Five. Friday, November 24, 6.00PM: NEW Teen Titans Go! “The Self-Indulgent 200th Episode Spectacular!”: When their world starts disappearing, the Titans must confront their creators. The Titans learn how difficult it is to make a cartoon when they try to animate Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath, their creators. The special reruns on Saturday at 10.00AM, 3.30PM and 7.30PM, and on Sunday at 8.30AM, 2.00PM and 6.30PM.
