Kate! Help! I'm really in the mood to read regency romance, but I don't know where to start. What are some of your favorites?
Hello!
Of course, I’d be happy to help ;) I haven’t had much luck lately in regency romance department but I’ll give you some of some trusted faves xD
The Hathaways series + Wallflowers series + The Ravenels series by Lisa Kleypas (there are hits and misses in each of these but overall they have some great characters and they’re such a fun to read)
Girl Meets Duke series by Tessa Dare
Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare (it’s one of my very faves!)
Fool Me Twice by Meredith Duran
The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite (this is F/F romance and it’s truly wonderful)
The Duke and the Lady in Red by Lorraine Heath
The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn (I feel rather icky recommending one of her books after she made some “diversity is tricky” comments but still, this one is pretty damn good)
What I Did For a Duke by Julie Anne Long
The Bareknuckle Bastardsby Sarah MacLean
Hope you can find something for yourself here ;) Happy reading!

azariastromsis replied to your post “By the way… I just mentioned GMOs, and apparently it’s like a gateway...”
Do it do it do it
Everyone, please not that you only have one person to blame for this rant.  And it’s not me.  I was enabled.
Okay, so Climate Change is real.  That is A Thing.  The science has proven the Thing.  But what irritates me is that so many people who like to talk about climate change turn around and demonize GMOs (please see: NDP and Green part in Canada).
This is fucking bullshit.
I need to start by saying: GMOs and Glyphosate are not the same thing.  I say this because so many people make them into one issue.  Plants can be genetically modified to tolerate glyphosate, but that is just one use for GMOs.  We also have GM tech for disease resistance (phytophthora in soybeans, clubroot in canola) and insects (Bt corn).  It can also be used to breed drought tolerant plants.  It can be used to increase nutrients that are desperately needed.  There are so many uses for GM tech besides just herbicide tolerance, and these uses can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture.
Not only that - but the science shows that GM plants are every bit as safe as their non-GM counterparts.  You say the science supports climate change?  It does.  I agree.  But it also supports the use of genetic modification.
Basically, you want to save the world and help reduce agricultural emissions?  Part of that is embracing technology.  We do it in every other god damn industry, yet entirely too many people want to tie our hands behind our backs when it comes to agriculture without really understanding the science.

azariastromsis replied to your post “quick tlj review (SPOILERS)”
Agreed. I came out thinking that nothing had really changed for any of our main three characters (4 NOW BECAUSE OF ROSE!) and most everyone deserved better writing than they got.
Half of the entire film was a super slow car chase... none of these characters really had a chance to develop, except maybe poe and rey, but the circumstances in which they developed also weren’t well-written (like, why did rey think kylo could be saved when she has seen him twice before, and interacted positively in neither?) And you’re 100% right about the writing.
ROSE though! I really hope they don’t kill her off or sideline her in ix.

I really enjoyed the Fairyland series by Catherynne Valente. It's definitely more middle grade though, but I thought it captured the aspect of "rules" really nicely.
Anonymous said: What do you think about A Shadow Kiss and Darkfever? Do you know any tv shows/films about fae?
i’m just putting both of these in one ask bc they’re related and i don’t want to spam my followers lol
but is this… am i learning about new fey books???? ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod
i have not read the Fairyland series bc i??? didn’t know they existed?? my library didn’t have them. ACTUALLY SCRATCH THAT i just checked and my library?? does have them?? idk they must have gotten them after i stopped reading children’s. i’m gonna check it out asap!! (even tho it’s a children’s book idc man)
and i can’t find A Shadow Kiss on goodreads?? can you give me an author, nonnie?? bc i have not checked it out and would love too!! and i haven’t read darkfever either bc it’s an adult book and i’m only slowly getting into adult from ya lol. i will definitely check that one out as well!!!
i don’t know any tv/movies w fey but i also don’t really watch a lot so if anyone knows of any pls share!! ofc i also think that media as a whole is less interested in them bc fey are 1. much less mainstream than other sorts of supernatural creatures. less books exist about them, in my experience, they’re less discussed, and fewer people know about them. 2. they’re much harder to do, in my opinion. fey are my favorite bc, when done well, they have the perfect mix of dark, sexy, and mischievous. having to remember all sorts of rules and such i don’t really think appeals to readers as much 3. just in terms of cost, creating an entire fey realm is a lot more expensive than sticking some werewolves in a forest lol
anyway!! i actually apparently have not read every faery book in existence. thank u for the recs!!

Watch the Americans! You won't regret it! It's the show that I'm continually bitter about because it has YET TO WIN AN EMMY
Hmmm. I’ll have to at least watch a few episodes and see what I think. The IMDB description sounded intriguing.

Your posts about skin care could not have come at a better time for me; I'm literally changing up my skin care regime TOMORRROW (Target was closed after I got off work :( so sad). Anyways, what do you think about using coconut oil as a cleanser/makeup remover? Or should I just buy a regular cleanser?
LOL yay I’m so glad! And honestly I love using oils as cleansers, it’s not for everyone but usually when I get up in the morning I oil cleanse my face just to moisturize and refresh it. Currently I’m using rose hip oil but honestly I think that inexpensive natural oils work almost as good as most of the more expensive ones. My only reason for getting face oils that are designed to be face oils is that sometimes if you’re using something like coconut or olive oil the container is just really big considering how much you need to use on a daily basis. And coconut oil is definitely nice, but it’s one of the thickest oils you can use, I mean it’s literally solid until you warm it up because it’s so dense, so I’ve heard of people having a bad reaction to it sometimes. If you don’t mind having a jar of coconut oil around for a long time then totes go for it, but at places like Marshalls and TJ Maxx you can actually find some pretty cheap face oils for 5-10 bucks, I actually got the oil I’m using right now at Marshalls.

azariastromsis replied to your post “Okay, who all has read the Hidden Legacy series?  Because I feel like...”
I've read the new one and that inspired a reread of the whole series!
I need to do a re-read, too.  I totally read the new one in a day, and God, but no one does world building like Ilona Andrews.  Their world building is the type of world building I would love to achieve.
