She knows.
She totally fucking knows.
But how the hell does she know?
It was the morning after his movie night with Elain, and Azriel had brought her home with him so they could have breakfast with the others before the girls went off shopping together. Nesta was staring him out from across the table as if she could see every thought running through his head. He hoped to god that she couldn’t because now he couldn’t stop thinking about the night before.
The movie had only been playing for around ten minutes before his resolve cracked. He tried, he really, really tried, but ever since Elain had walked out of that bathroom in a pale pink tank top and small black shorts he was done for. She was lying tucked into his side on the bed fully focused on whatever movie she had picked when, without realising, his fingers began drawing patterns on the skin of her thigh. Azriel cursed himself when she tensed, now noticing what he’d done.
Why the hell did he have to ruin everything?
“What are you doing, Az?”
“I- I- shit I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.” He fumbled, pulling his hand away. But before he could get too far, a small pale hand wrapped around his wrist.
“It’s okay you know? You’re allowed to touch me. I just wasn’t expecting you to want to touch me.”
“Of course I want to touch you, in fact I always want to touch you, but I should have asked first.”
Elain began to play with his fingers at that, chewing on her lower lip like something was bothering her. He tried to push back the thoughts of biting that lip himself so he could focus on the matter at hand.
“What’s wrong El?”
“It’s just that this whole being pregnant thing includes hormones. And sometimes I don’t know if I want you because it’s me or it’s just my hormones telling me that I need some sort of itch scratched or something.”
Jesus Christ, she was going to kill him.
“Will you let me touch you, Elain?”
She let out a shaky and uneven breathe before whispering;
“Yes.”
He brought his hand up to tuck her hair behind her ear, following the path down, dragging his fingertips across her neck and had to hold back a smirk at the way she shivered.
“Promise me something first.”
A nod.
“Promise me that you’ll stop me if there’s something you don’t want to do. I’m not going to get upset or mad at you, you’re allowed to say no. I don’t want to feel like I’m taking from you, not again.”
“But you di-“
“Promise me.”
“I promise, Az.”
She closed her eyes as he dropped his hand once more, this time to her hip, and dragged her to face him fully. Elain squeaked at the feeling of their chest, hips and thighs being pressed together. Azriel brought his lips to her just a brush at first but then she let out a frustrated whimper and his control snapped. He moved her leg over his hip and caught her moan with his lips as he ground into her harder. Her hands wove into his hair and pulled causing him to groan and roll her onto her back. His hand moved away from her hip to run along the waist band of her shorts, teasing.
“Can I?”
Elain looked down to where the tips of his fingers were just underneath the band and flushed a bright red so he tipped her chin back up so they were face to face once more.
“You can say no and we can stop right now. Just being able to hold you, to kiss you, is enough.”
“No, I want to. But I’ve never...”
The next kiss he gave her was gentle and slow, a slight distraction as he pushed his hand under both her shorts and panties. She gasped when he used his thumb to draw circles over her bundle of nerves and slipped one finger inside her.
“Good?”
She bit his lip and moaned again before breathing out a;
“Ye- Yes.”
Azriel smirked and thrusted slowly a few times before carefully adding another. The slow thrusts continued until she pulled his hair hard with one hand and dragged her other down his back, nails digging into his skin, and he picked up the pace. One of her legs wrapped around his waist trying to pull him closer but he kept himself propped on his forearm, just hear her whimper, the sound going straight to the part of him he was steadily ignoring. Soon enough her back was arching and she looked at him with what looked to de part desperation and part confusion.
“Az. Az I need- I need-“
He pressed his thumb harder and used his fingers to make a come hither motion, speaking against her lips as she cried out.
“Ellie. Let go, baby. I’ve got you.”
Once she fell limp against the bed he withdrew his hand as gently as he could, bringing it to his mouth, grinning internally as her eyes widened. He jolted when her small hand came up to fiddle with the button on his jeans. The disappointed look on her face made him wish he’d let her continue, but this wasn’t about him. This was all for her.
“But what about you?”
“I’m alright, I promise. Was that okay?”
“Amazing.”
He smiled and kissed her nose then her forehead, tucking her in gently, before going to the bathroom to sort himself out. By the time he came back and climbed in behind her, she was already asleep, the sound of her even breaths pulling him under too.
The banging of a mug against the table top brought him back to the present, shifting in his seat against the discomfort of his now incredibly tight jeans. Nesta was still glaring at him as she got up from the table to give Cassian a kiss goodbye, telling Feyre and Elain she was going to start the car. He barely had chance to appreciate the kiss his girlfriend gave him before she was rushing over to link her arm through her sisters, leaving him in a dazed state as they yelled a quick “later” over their shoulders.
Cassian’s loud and obnoxious laughter had him turning abruptly back to his brothers.
“God, bro. You’re so fucking whipped.”
He scoffed, as if they both weren’t exactly the same dopey idiots around their girls.
Elain Archeron had him wrapped around her little finger and he was so fucking grateful that she did.
oOoOo
The three of them had been shopping for over an hour now and Elain was exhausted. She was little dizzy and her back ached and gods she just wanted to sit for five minutes but her sister had other ideas.
“Just one last store El, and then we can go and get those milkshakes you like.”
The sound of said milkshakes did not sound appealing in that moment but she managed to give Feyre a small smile, albeit a bit grim, but she had already started walking again. Following as fast as her tired body would allow, she realised it was a clothes store and Feyre was steadily piling her arms with things to try on.
“Is it really necessary for me to try on all of these things? I have enough clothes, I don’t need more.”
She was given what she was call a sadistic grin in return and was promptly dragged to the fitting rooms to try everything on. Nesta was already there trying on what looked to be about a dozen jeans. There was no time for her to even ask her elder sister what she had picked because her younger one had pushed her into one of the cubicles.
Once inside Elain gently placed her clothes on the hook and bent to remove her shoes, deciding to try on any jeans and trousers first but as she came back up, she was hit with another wave of dizziness and swayed. She groaned loudly at the pain in her head as her vision became blurry. There was a lot of talking from outside, banging on the door and few shouts of her name maybe?
“Elain.”
“Elain are you alright?”
“Elain!”
She had no time to think or call back to whoever is was before she was falling and everything went dark.

Feyre and Mor force Az and Elain to go on a blind date with each other but it turns out they are already dating for your fluffy prompts 💕 (this is stars-falling from my main btw)
Hey lovely! First thing, sorry it took me years to answer😅😂 Okay I’m not sure if this is what you had in mind but I had fun heehee. Also it’s kinda short- I was writing it between all my work lol.
“Mor I already told you that I don’t want to go on a date! I’m busy and I am very happily single so drop it!”
Azriel loved Mor, he really did but at the moment she was trying him.
“Az you have to,” she insisted, trying to pull him off the couch where he was firmly seated, “we’ve already told her that you’ll be there and you can’t be the one to stand her up.”
Azriel sighed, he didn’t want to leave someone hanging but he didn’t think he could stomach an evening of fake smiles and forced conversation.
He didn’t need Mor to set him up on blind dates. He could manage himself just fine.
“I’ll do all the washing up and cooking and take the bins out for a week,” Mor persuaded, arms folded.
“Two weeks,”
“Fine.”
“Deal”
Mor rolled her eyes, Azriel could work for days on end without even complaining but ask him to take the bins out and you wouldn’t hear the end of it.
“When are we going?” Azriel stood up
“After you change,” Mor said.
Azriel frowned looking down at his clothes, “what’s wrong with what I’m wearing?”
“Its just so,” she waved a hand at him, “black”
“I like back,” Azriel folded his arms.
Mor just raised his eyebrows.
After a few moments Azriel stalked towards his room, muttering under his breath something about judgy women.
A couple hours later Az was walking into a restaurant, somewhere between internally crying and rolling his eyes.
He gave the guy at the door the reservation under Mor’s name.
He grabbed a menu, “right this way,” he set off walking, “your partners already here,”
Azriel winced, he’d planned to get there first and get a little drunk before she arrived.
As he sat down and looked up from the floor he froze.
Elain Archeron was the last person he had ever expected to see.
When Elain agreed to go on this blind date it was to make Feyre happy, she had no problem whatsoever with her current dating situation. She loved it actually.
So she was dreading this. She’d honestly much rather be at home with her TV.
Then Azriel showed up- the last person she even imagined seeing with a slight grimace on his face and she had freaked out instantly. Was he cheating on her? Why would he be here unless-
Elain didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when he walked over to her table.
“Well this was unexpected,” she tried to smile. This was a situation Elain had never imagined herself in. A blind date set up by her sister with her boyfriend.
It was ridiculous.
“Just a little bit,” Azriel said, relived. “Thank god it’s you I was dreading this.” Elain watched as Azriel started to reach over the table to take her hand before stopping and staring at something over her shoulder.
“What?” she asked, seeing him freeze.
“Don’t look,” he said with a pleasant smile that Elain knew was forced, “but Mor and Feyre are a couple tables away,”
“You’re joking,” Elain moaned. She was hoping that now she knew it was Azriel that they could have a normal dinner, but evidently not.
She could have cried, she was tired out of pretending to her family, but she knew that she would have to, it was what Azriel and her had decided on.
“They’ve got wigs and everything,” Azriel said incredulously,  “they’re unbelievable.”
“Sunglasses too?” Elain asked, dreading the answer.
“Yep,” he said, popping the “p”.
She buried her head in her hands groaning.
“You look beautiful by the way,” he added.
“Thank you,” Elain smiled, watching as his eyes darkened, and she blushed slightly as his gaze drifted all over her.
“So do you, as always,” her smile widened as the tips of his ears turned pink.
Though her face dropped when she heard giggling from behind them.
“Hey,” Azriel’s eyes twinkled, all the  earlier embarrassment gone, “can you still cry on demand?” he asked.
“Yes? Why what are you planning?” Elain was very proud of her ability to cry. It got her so much free stuff when their dad’s business went bust.
Azriel didn’t answer her.
Instead he stood up and shouted, “How dare you say that!”
Elain stood up too, wiping the smile of her face when she caught on to what he was doing, “How dare I? How dare you! You came here on date with me the day after you slept with my sister!”
That’d give them something to think about.
She could see Azriel desperately try to stifle a smile at the muffled gasps around the room.
“Well you slept with my brother first!” he shouted.
Elain burst out crying, “how did you know?”
“I didn’t,” Azriel looked like he was about to lose it, “but now I do!”
Elain was running out of things to say. And she wanted to win this argument, even if it was fake.
She grabbed the wine and poured it over his head, “We’re done!” she shouted, tears still streaming down her face as she ran out of the restaurant.
She ignored the looks of the staff and the people, knowing that if she so much as paid the slightest bit of attention she would die laughing.
Once she was outside she waited against the wall for him, just around the corner, cleaning up her mascara, just managing to hold onto her composure.
One look at Azriel’s face made her lose it.
He broke out in a grin as soon as he was out of view of the window, “one-nill to us” he high fived her, “that was brilliant!”
“Thank you,” she bowed.
“Spectacular performance my love but was this really necessary?” he gestured to his soaking shirt.
“Yes, because you can’t possibly wear that now,” Elain said in mock sympathy as she pulled his shirt over his head, running her hands down his chest.
He lent down to kiss her, pushing her back against the wall.
Elain frowned  and chased his lips when he pulled away, resting his hands on her waist, “You didn’t actually sleep with my brothers did you?” he asked.
Elain giggled,” of course not,” and pulled him back to her, looping her arms around his neck, “you didn’t actually sleep with my sister did you?” she teased.
“Definitely not,” Elain laughed at the look of disgust on his face and went up on her tiptoes to peck his nose.
“Good,” she whispered.
“Excuse me,”
Their heads whipped towards the voice.
To see Mor and Feyre.
“Shit” Elain whispered.

14.“If you don’t hug me right now I think I might fall apart.” Fluffy?? Maybe??
Fluff?? Or angst?? How’s about BOTH
Also here is the link for the prompt list, keep them coming, I’m looking forward to writing them, (in between school work so bare with me lol)
Elain felt sorry for the bread dough. She really did. When she said that it was taking a beating, she meant it.
She had just come back from checking up on Nesta. Elain knew that she didn’t want to see her, she’d made that abundantly clear, but she couldn’t leave her alone.
Even so, Nesta’s outright refusal to see her had hurt, more than she’d ever admit, everyone already thought that she was fragile enough already.
This bread would not see her as weak though, not with the way she was slapping it onto the counter top. She was boss here.
The twins were busy, she didn’t know what they were doing but they had taken one look at her face and scarpered, rambling on about something they had to do. Elain was thankful for those two, but right now she wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone.
They knew when she wanted to be alone, but the only issue was when she had no one distracting her was that all her thoughts bubbled to the front of her mind and tended to overflow.
She needed something to take it out on, to channel it, and unfortunately the bread was the victim today. Last week it was the weeds.
Elain grabbed a bag of flour, ready to abuse the dough some more, when her hand slipped and it went everywhere. Everywhere.
She groaned, looking at the dusting that covered the counter, the bread, the floor and the table, how on earth did it manage to get there? She stomped her foot in anger, fists clenched, huffing through her gritted teeth and rubbing at her eyes- this was not her day.
She needed a brush. That was it, to sweep it up. She took one step and went flying, landing on her back with a squeal as all the air was knocked out of her. She lay there, eyes closed.
Just take deep breaths Elain. Then you won’t want to kill cooking ingredients.
She was sure the whole world was against her today. She sat up slowly, letting her head drop into her hands as she felt all the emotions from the last day fizzle up. She blinked back the sting of tears, crying wouldn’t solve anything.
“Elain?”
Elain quickly wiped away any tears that managed to escape and forced a smile onto her face before letting Azriel know where she was, “I’m here.”
He rounded the table to see her sitting in a pile of flour, it was all over her dress and it seemed to flock to her face. Her hair was covered in a dusting of white, she was sure that he thought she looked like an absolute mess. He wasn’t wrong.
He’d been home for a while by the looks of it, still in his leathers as usual, but his hair wasn’t tousled by the wind and his cheeks weren’t red from the cold. His eyebrows drew together slightly as he looked her over before stepping towards her, hand outstretched to help her up.
She waved him off, grabbing the counter to pull herself to her feet, “I’m fine, thank you.” He nodded, putting his hands in his pockets and stepping back, leaning his hip against the counter. His face betrayed nothing, as usual and Elain could feel herself flushing, why did he have to turn up just then?
She smoothed her hands over her apron, trying to regain a bit of dignity and turned around to get the brush, when she walked straight into the cupboard door.
She let out a yelp and  brought her hand up to her head, the other gripping a chair. She heard Azriel move towards her again, “are you-”
“I’m fine,” she hissed and then mastered herself, she didn’t mean to talk to him like that. “I’m fine.” Her voice was lighter this time, but her face was like thunder and she made sure to keep her back towards Azriel.
She reached up to slam the door shut and narrowly avoided slamming her fingers in the door as well. She let out a slow breath, she didn’t want to have a meltdown in front of Azriel.
Elain faced the bread that she was making again and got back to work, she had plenty of flower now she scoffed. Azriel was still stood there, and she could feel his gaze on her, watching her as he might do a frightened animal.
She ignored him, she wasn’t in the mood to talk, or be polite even, and Azriel was the only person she was comfortable enough with to ignore, so she just carried on and tried not to let the feeling of his eyes on her take over.
It felt like hours later when he finally spoke, “What’s wrong Elain?” He asked, and Elain thought that she’d never heard his voice so soft.
She chuckled a little, “that’s a loaded question isn’t it?”
He shifted and she just knew that he was cocking his head at her. “Well that depends, what’s on your mind?”
Maybe it was because someone was showing interest, or maybe it was that she was still covered in flower, or even maybe what had happened earlier, but Elain found that it all just came spilling out, “I’m alone!” She threw down her rolling pin, glaring at it when it glanced off her foot. “I’m alone,” she said again, quieter this time.
“Nesta doesn’t want me near her and Feyre’s too busy with her new family, which is great!” Elain threw her arms up and then stopped for a second. Azriel didn’t even move, if she thought he was being careful with her before, then she had no clue what to call this.
“No, it is great.” Elain admitted, placing a hand on her forehead and the other on her hip. “I’m happy for her, she deserves it, and this,” she gestured around, “this is what I’ve always wanted for her, but I always just assumed that I’d be part of it too.” She looked down, hands gripping the fabric of her dress as the reality came crushing down on her.
She really was alone.
“And then to top it all off, I dropped my flour.” Elain gave a little laugh and her eyes welled up inhumanly fast. She blinked and looked up at Azriel through watery eyes. He was chewing the inside of his cheek, half looking like he wanted to go to her and half like he wanted to run very very far away. Maybe for the first time, Azriel had no clue what to do.
Elain sniffled, “if you don’t hug me right now I think I might fall apart.”
That got rid of any hesitation on his part and he was across the room in seconds, even managing to avoid slipping on the flour, was flour actually slippy or was she just clumsy? Elain didn’t know and did care when she closed her eyes and let herself be pulled into his arms. He wrapped one around her back, the other coming to cup the back of her head. She sighed as she was enveloped in his warmth, and was bombarded  by this overwhelming sense of safety. Elain couldn’t remember the last time she’d had a hug.
Elain looked at his shirt, seeing the flour attaching onto him. She rubbed at it, trying to get it off. “It’s fine,” he hummed.
Elain just pressed her face into his chest, inhaling deeply.
“You’re not alone Elain.”
Elain smiled against his shirt, “neither are you.”

Music (Chapter 3)
Chapter 2 Chapter 4
Tumblr media
The world was a blur. Hours upon hours of worthless labor. Mop the decks. Shine the rains. Stitch up fucking jackets.
Cassian hadn’t gotten to say goodbye to his brothers.
The new Captain barely paid him a glance.
A cabin boy. That’s what he’d become.
The hammocks all creaked, too loud to sleep through. So he resorted to staring at the ceiling, making shapes out of the water stains.
He wasn’t sure where the fire started, but it was only minutes before men started screaming.
The blur started anew, this one painted red and orange. He ended up back on the deck, watching the flames eat up the mainsail.
Then the mast came down, creating a massive crack through the deck. Water came up.
Cassian fell.
Now the world way blue and black and cold. He watched the ship sink as if not with his own eyes. It split apart, men clinging to the broken pieces to stay afloat. Gold spilled and sank. Water stirred. People died.
Cassian went down down down.
*****
She was brushing her hair.
Cassian watched her, blinking at the sunlight. He shifted. His body was heavy again, but not impossible. Pushing his arms under him, he sat up very slowly.
“Lay down,” the siren said, not looking at him.
He winced. His limbs were full of lead, every inch of his body aching.
“Lay down,” she snarled, baring her sharpened teeth.
The sight of it shocked him enough that his arms gave out. Pain hit him a moment after he hit the grass, lightning through his chest.
The siren stood on human legs, but he recognized her. She was just as beautiful as she had been in the water, the sun making her hair burn like gold. He couldn’t help but look at her. Admire her. No scales, just a perfect, human body.
“Will you give me your heart, sailor boy?” she sang.
Oh gods. He wanted to give her everything.
She straddled him, naked limbs gleaming with sea water. “Will you give me your heart?” Her hands were on his chest, dividing his shirt.
“My heart?” he asked stupidly.
She leaned down to kiss his throat. “Yes. Will you give me it?”
“I…” What was going on? She looked like a goddess, framed in sunlight. She looked like a curse. His fingers felt the grass beneath him, the world around him. “No.”
She screeched as he flipped them over, deftly pinning her beneath him. Her claws scrambled for skin, but he pinned her wrists, snarling in her face when she snarled at him.
“Tell me what happened. Tell me where I am.”
“No.” Her back arched in an effort to knock him off, drawing his eyes down to her breasts. They really were magnificent, nipples already hard and begging for his mouth. He could just—
No. No. She was a siren. “Where’s your tail?”
She continued to screech, writhing beneath him.
He sat down, straddling her hips.
Her movements halted. “What… what are you doing?”
“Ah, so she can speak normally.”
“Get off me, you brute.” Her hips bucked, but it was useless. Cassian far outweighed her.
“Look, you and I are going to make a deal,” he said, shifting his grip on her wrists to one hand. “You’ll stop doing that singing bullshit, stop trying to kill me, and help me get out of here.”
“And what do I get from this?” she sneered.
“You’re life?” He put his free hand on her throat. “I could kill you right here and no one would know.”
“You wouldn’t.”
He tightened his fingers. “Are you prepared to make that bet?” When she didn’t answer, he went on. “Or we could wait here until the next ship comes by and I could sell you to the highest bidder. The world would be amazed and I would be rich.”
Her stunning eyes narrowed. “You were supposed to be stupid.”
“Surprised?”
She bared her teeth at him. “I do not agree.”
“God.” He threw his head back, taking his hand off her throat. “What… the fuck do you want then?”
“How much is your life worth, sailor boy? What are you—”
“Nope. No more riddles. Just tell me what you want.”
She sighed. It was the most human thing he’d ever seen her do. “You will find me another heart, then.”
His brows knitted. “Another heart?”
“Get off of me and I’ll explain it.”
“I don’t trust you.”
“It’s mutual, I promise.”
He narrowed his eyes, but slowly peeled himself off of her. He took the knife from the boot that was still on his foot, not showing his relief that it was there at all. Holding it between them, he watched her warily as she sat up.
“Don’t you have any clothes,” he muttered, casting his eyes down, then back up. He couldn’t look away from her for long, she was unpredictable, but he also couldn’t help the blush in his cheeks.
She hissed at him, covering her breasts with her hands. “Better?”
“Not really.”
“Tough.”
“Something like that, sweetheart. You have about two minutes to explain before I stick my knife in you.”
She glared at him, but took a deep breath. “Sirens can’t just take hearts. We can’t harm people—”
“You gouged my fucking chest.”
Her eyes flared. “We can’t kill people. At least not without their consent. I have to ask you for your heart for you to give it to me. If not, you’d already be dead.”
“That’s reassuring.”
“People become… easier to convince. That’s what the song is for.” She pulled her knees to her chest, and looked, for once, very small and very scared. “You were supposed to be my first.”
Cassian blinked. ”Your first?”
“My first heart. I need one to… my life is on the line if I don’t deliver.”
“That’s… that’s sick.” The brief thought in his mind was that she could be lying, but he had learned to read people. Something in her face told him exactly what he needed to hear. “You’re not going to kill me, and I’m not going to kill you.” He dropped the knife.
She stared at it, before raising her eyes to his face. His heart hammered at the look that crossed her features and he was sure she could hear it.
“Okay,” she said.
Cassian let out a breath. “What’s your name?”
Her brows knitted. “My name?”
“You don’t have one?”
“I do. I do.” She glanced at the teaming ocean, a sea breeze lifting her hair. “I remember my sisters calling it. I just… I can’t remember what it is.”
“I’m sorry.” He studied her face as closely as he dared. “You were human once, weren’t you?”
She straightened, eyes snapping to his. “That’s not important.”
“So that’s a yes.”
“All monsters were once human. It’s a stupid question.”
He cocked his head. “Do you remember your human life?”
Her jaw clenched. “Bits and pieces.”
“Is there a way to—”
“If you don’t stop asking questions, I’m going to kill you.”
He chuckled. “That’s fair.”
Standing, the siren wandered a bit, kicking at the grass, before she turned back to him. “Where do we go from here?”
He sighed, closing his eyes to keep them from tracking up her body. “We could put out a signal fire, wait for the next ship to pass and pray they’re friendly. That seems like our only option.”
“Can you swim?”
“What? I’m a pirate, of course I can.”
“Then I have an idea.” She began striding for the water.
“We are not swimming all the way to the mainland.”
She waved him off. “Just trust me.”
He studied the hand she stretched out to him, then followed it up to her face. “Don’t make me regret this.”

Music Chapter 5
This is a bit of a short chapter, but I hope you enjoy.

On deck, there was chaos.
Cassian held tightly to his siren— now in human form— as his crewmates surrounded his, many with wide grins, but most utterly confused.
And from within their ranks, emerged Amren.
“What is this?” she asked, looking down her nose at him. Then at his siren— Nesta. Her name was savior in and of itself. “Why are you here?”
Cassian pushed his slick hair back from his face. “The ship you put me on went down. You were the first one to cross our path.”
“Hmm.” She narrowed those sleek silver eyes on him. “Get cleaned up, get her some damned clothes, then both of you can meet me in my quarters.”
Cassian breathed a sigh of relief as she marched off, feeling like he would break down any second. Someone threw a blanket to Nesta, and soon, the crowd began to dissipate.
“Are you okay?” he whispered in his siren’s ear, helping her to her feet. “You’re pale.”
She brushed away the hand he brought to her brow. “I’m fine. Get me clothes.”
“Right.” He led her below deck, away from those prying eyes. The Velaris was a very large ship for her age, big enough to have separate quarters for much of the crew. The room he usually shared with his brothers was mercifully empty, though he did wonder where they were off to. More importantly, Feyre and Elain. Hopefully, Nesta would look like just another human to them.
Nesta wasn’t looking him as he dug through the trunk of the sisters’ clothes, looking for something suitable for her to wear. She just sat on one of the hammocks, a sullen expression on her perfect face.
Cassian straightened. “What’s wrong?”
“I… I thought I saw someone, but I must have been mistaken.”
“I’m sorry.” He tossed her a pair of Feyre’s breeches and a white tunic. “Who was it?”
For the first time since they’d met, she looked confused. “I don’t know.”
“Well, get dressed and I can introduce you to some of the crew.” With that, he turned back to the trunks, finding some of Azriel’s clothes that would fit him. His own trunk was buried beneath the waves.
Stripping, Cassian kept his back to his siren as he changed, and for a moment, the only sound above the creaking of the ship was the soft rustle of gently worn clothing. It was good to be dry, although washing would have to wait. Amren would be furious if he took too much time.
“You ready?” Cassian asked, pivoting on a booted heel, and nearly fell over. Nesta was a walking sin dressed in nothing but her skin, but seeing her in his people’s clothes… He swallowed hard, finding somewhere else to look. “Just keep close to me.”
She nodded, but didn’t appear to be exactly pleased about any of this. Cassian tucked her into his side as he climbed the stairs to the deck, blinking against the sudden onslaught of sunlight. The ship was alive with movement, men bustling about to adjust course, to mop the decks, to check the knots. Still, Cassian didn’t see his brothers, or the Archerons, a bit of unease settling at the base of his spine. He had no idea how his brothers would react to the siren, but there was no way they didn’t already know he was on board. The commotion had been too much to ignore.
So they’re avoiding me, he thought bitterly. Fine then.
Amren’s door was unlocked so Cassian let himself in, his siren trailing behind him.
Amren was bent over her desk, fingers tracing over a map. “Sit down. Both of you.”
Cassian took his seat, Nesta more hesitantly.
“You must have drifted far to find us,” Amren said, dragging her finger across the paper. “Your course was over a hundred miles away.”
“There was a heavy current,” said Cassian, very carefully not looking at Nesta. “We got lucky.”
“Oh, I have no doubt. And you? Were you on the ship?” She slit her eyes on his siren. “You don’t act like a pirate.”
“I only just began.” Nesta raised her chin.
“Daddy cut you off?”
She didn’t answer, jaw clenching.
Amren nodded, as if that was answer enough. “Cassian,” she announced, “I’m promoting you to First Mate.”
“What?”
“Did I stutter?”
“N-no.” He tried and failed to shut his gaping mouth. “I just… why?”
“Well” —she leaned back in her chair, folding her arms— “you’re the only one on my crew to survive a shipwreck, manage to swim this far out, and somehow convince a siren to work with you.”

Music (Chapter 2)
Chapter 1 Chapter 3
Hey, I know it’s been a while since I posted, but here’s a second part to my siren au. I hope you enjoy.
Tumblr media
*****
Amren didn’t believe them. No one did. She even threatened to put them back out and bring back proof.
Under the deck, Cassian tried to wash the feeling of scales from his hands. They were headed to port by sundown, thankfully, where he could take a proper bath.
Turning, he found Rhys leaning against the door to the washroom. “Do you want to talk about it?”
Cassian sighed, running the damp cloth across the scratches on his chest. “I’m not crazy, right? You saw all of that too?”
Rhys nodded. “I woke up when you went into the water. She had Az under the spell until I knocked him in the head with my hilt.”
“How does Feyre know about them? Did she have an encounter?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. Whenever it comes up, she gets all pale and shaky. Elain too.”
“I don’t blame them.” Cassian ran the cloth across his face, scrubbing against the coarse hair that needed trimming. Gods, he was a mess. “She was… she was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
“She’s a siren, Cass.”
“Yeah, I know. I feel so stupid,” he said into the rag. “No part of me was deterred by the fact that she appeared, completely dry, in the middle of the sea.”
“If I had woken up sooner--”
“Then both of us would have been mooning over her.”
Rhys sighed and clapped him on the shoulder. “Find a nice lady at the port and forget this happened. Don’t let it get to you.”
Cassian nodded but suspected it already had.
*****
“I need to talk to you,” Cassian said the moment they found Feyre and Elain. Rhys’s head snapped to him--he hadn’t even gotten the chance to kiss her--but Cassian was already striding away, not waiting for her to follow.
She did and when they got to a private section of the port, she sat beside him on the deck.
Neither said anything for a long moment.
Cassian swung his legs in an effort to relieve the pent-up energy. “I believe you.”
Feyre raised a brow. “Believe me about what?”
“About sirens.”
She went white. “Did… Did something happen?”
He nodded, dropping his head into his hands. “Yes. Gods, Feyre, it was terrifying.”
“How are you alive? How did you get out?” Her voice was desperate, her nails digging into his bicep.
“Rhys and Az got me out. I don’t… they weren’t in as strong a thrall.”
She nodded. “It’s because she was after you, not them. She was singing for you.”
He shuddered. “How--how do you know so much? Please, help me explain some of this.”
She was quiet for a long while, looking at her toes under her skirts. Then-- “I had another sister. She was killed by them.”
“What?”
“They were--” Her words shook. “--after me, not her. I was the one that got lured in.”
He didn’t know if he should ask. He did anyway. “How did it happen?”
Another pause as Feyre seemed to master herself. “I was walking along the pier with my sisters late one night. I wanted to swim but neither of them like cold water. I got in anyway and I thought I was going crazy when I heard the singing, but it was so calm, so sweet that all my cares were swept away. I watched the siren come towards me. I didn’t even question it. She was so beautiful… I can still remember her face.”
“What did she look like?”
“She had long red hair, like liquid velvet, and these dark, soulful eyes. Her skin was so pale I thought it looked like moonlight.”
Cassian sighed. It wasn’t the same one.
“She told me her name was Amarantha. She told me how beautiful I was and how much she loved me. And, as she got closer, I saw her tale but didn’t think anything of it. I was close enough to the pier that when she was reaching for me, asking for a kiss, my oldest sister saw.” She let out a sob and cried for a few moments. Cassian didn’t know what to do. He wanted to cry too.
Finally, she collected herself enough to go on. “My sister didn’t even hesitate. She dove into the water and attacked the siren just as I was leaning in. I… The waves went quiet. Everything went quiet. Elain pulled me back onto the pier and we both tried to find her. Nothing surfaced. Not even a ripple. We went back every day for a month in blind hope her body might wash ashore and we’d have something to bury. She never did.”
She pulled her knees up, hugging them around her voluminous skirts. “Since then, I’ve done a lot of research. Me and Elain both. Legend says the song is weaker every time you hear it, but most people don’t live beyond the first encounter. When they kiss you is when they have you. Then… they say the moment you kiss them, you belong to them. There’s no going back. They’ll drag you beneath the waves and carve out your heart. Corpses had been found washed up with gaping holes in their chests.”
Cassian touched his own chest, where he could still feel the sirens claws.
Feyre looked at him. “Did she… did you kiss her?”
He wasn’t sure why he lied. “No.”
“I’m sorry, Cassian. I’m so glad you got out.”
“Is there… Is there anything about them appearing human?”
Her brows drew together. “Not that I’ve read about, but I suppose very few live to tell the tale. They’re capable of”-- A shiver. --”amazing acts. They say their tears can make a man immortal and their blood can bring back the dead. They are creatures of mischief and myth.”
Cassian nodded and they lapsed into silence once more.
Then, “Rhys was with you?”
“Yeah. He helped pull me out.”
“Is he okay?”
“Yeah, yeah. He’s fine. He didn’t fall under the spell at all.”
“Good.”
“I think it’s because he’s already in love with someone.”
He smiled at the flush that spread across her cheeks. “I--I suppose that could… affect things.” Another pause. “I have read about being less susceptible when you’re in love.”
Cassian leaned back, breathing in the smell of salt water. “Thank you, Feyre.”
“Of course. If you ever need anyone to talk to again, me and Elain are here.”
“Thank you,” he said again and meant it.
The moment you kiss them, you belong to them.
*****
Hours later, Cassian was still shaken. He made himself get in a rowboat alone, trying in earnest to face the fear. He wouldn’t be afraid like Feyre and Elain were. The water was his life--he wouldn’t let some… creature take that from him.
Thankfully, nothing happened.
He arrived at a small cove he’d known since he was a boy, lodging the boat carefully in the rocks.
The sun was slowly setting, casting the turquoise water in flame. Cassian watched it from within the small cave, sitting himself on the blankets he’d brought with him. He’d spend the night here, at the water’s edge alone, just to prove to himself they wouldn’t come back for him.
She wouldn’t come back for him.
At least, that’s what he told himself.
Shifting his pillow, he closed his eyes and tried to forget her face.
*****
Cassian awoke some time in the night to the soft sound of singing. His body was too heavy to move, so he lay in stillness.
She was sitting at the cave entrance, humming while she worked knots from her hair.
He watched her tail swish through the water and tried to sit up, tried to go to her as the singing turned to crying.
But he awoke a moment later.
*****
Amren sent for him the next morning, calling him to her cabin before they left port.
Cassian came in hesitantly, fiddling with his bracelet.  “You asked for me, Captain?”
Amren looked up from the map she’d been pouring over and straightened. “Yes. Have a seat. I’ve thought a lot about you lately.”
“Have I done something wrong?” he asked as he sat.
She was at eye level now and it made the look she gave him that much worse. “You nearly cost us everything, Cassian. That ship could have been so much more dangerous.”
“We got you gunpowder .”
“No, you got me rum and trouble. Now we have extra rum and an entire British Navy ship missing.” She planted her hands on the desk and leaned forward. “Do you know what they are going to do when that ship doesn’t return to port, Cassian? Do you know where they are going to look?”
He did.
“And then you have the audacity to return,” she said, voice rising, “spouting nonsense about sirens? You scared half the idiots on this ship and your brothers with them.”
“Capitan—”
“You are more trouble than you’re worth, Cassian. You will not be leaving this harbor with us.”
He gaped at her. “But I’m—”
“One of my best men, yes. I know. You’re not replaceable, so we will have to do without you.”
His gaze moved down to the desk. He felt like he was dying. “Please.”
“I have arranged for another crew to take you, maybe discipline you a little. They’re close friends of mine and you will do well. In a few years, if you have survived and matured, I will welcome you back.”
He let out a breath, but the weight in his chest did not ease.
Amren said, “I will not apologize, Cassian, but I will wait for your return.”
He nodded. “I understand. I— I’m sorry.”
“I know you are. Pack your things; your new captain awaits you.”

Chapter 8
—————
Azriel couldn’t remember the last time that he was this happy. It had only been almost a week since he and Elain had kissed, and he couldn’t help but smile whenever he thought of it. The way that she held him gently as they did so, the little noises that she’d made when he’d deepened the kiss, and the way she had smiled into it whenever he let a groan slip. It just all felt so real. Kissing girls was never like that; people always said there was some spark or some other mushy feeling, but he’d never experienced it. Not until she walked into his life. They had called every night since, he’d ask about her day, how she was feeling, what she would be doing the next day, and then he’d tell her that he couldn’t wait until they got time alone together again.
She’d wriggled her way under his skin and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
They were all currently sat at a table in the cafeteria. Elain was sat opposite him with Nesta, Cass and Lucien, while he was sat wedged between Feyre and Rhys. He just wanted one day where they weren’t connected from head to toe. Every chance he could get, he would sneak little glances at her, making her blush if she caught him. It gave him some smug satisfaction to see the pink staining her cheeks. That was until he saw Lucien glaring at him. He knew why of course; Elain had said that she’d told him about the night of the party because she was scared and confused. That he knew about the baby, simply because she didn’t want to be alone when she took the tests. Part of him was jealous at first because that was their night- what they could remember of it, anyway –and it was their baby. His baby. He felt he should have been there when she found out, but he hadn’t known then. They hadn’t spoken until after that and she hadn’t thought he’d care, that he’d want anything to do with her. With either of them. But it still hurt for some reason.
Azriel was brought out of his musings to the sound of both Cassian and Lucien’s very unhappy groaning. Looking up he saw that both Nesta and Feyre had their eyes, now furiously cold, glaring in the same direction. Cass had his head tilted to the ceiling like it was the most interesting thing in the world, Rhys was rubbing his temples as if a headache was brewing and Lucien looked as though he was trying to disappear. Elain was desperately trying to tuck herself into Nesta’s side, as if that was currently the safest place for her. He turned his head in the same direction that the two girls were looking in, and when he saw what they did, he struggled to hold back a groan of his own.
Ianthe was strutting across the room, acting like she owned the whole goddamn place, right towards their table. When she reached it there was a slight smirk on her face as she placed one hand on her hip and used the other to twirl her awful bleached hair around her finger, but before she could speak, Rhys beat her to it.
“How many times do you have to be told, demon spawn, no one here wants anything to do with you. Leave.”
Her pinched face twisted up into something horrid for a moment before the smirk was back and she was opening her mouth, speaking in that nasally tone that made him want to stab himself.
“Now now, Rhysand, don’t be like that. I’m curious about something. All of you boys except for Lucy dearest turned down this,” she made a flourished gesture at herself, “beautiful piece of work for a trashy lower model.”
Before Feyre could get up, he was pulling her back down, and the whining from the blonde continued.
“You for Tamlin’s sloppy seconds, Cassian for the cold bitch that probably doesn’t put out, and you, Azzie? You did it for the virgin freak over there. I just wanted to know how you all managed to snag an Archeron sister.”
Everything had gone deadly still. Cass was gaping like a fish, Rhys had an eyebrow raised and he could feel Feyre glaring daggers into the side of his head. Lucien had dropped his head into his hands while Elain was wide eyed, pale and her hand looked like it was beginning to shake. He wanted to reach out to her, to hold her close, to let her know that everything was fine. But he could do nothing. Nothing but stare at Nesta as she flicked her eyes to his, an angry fire burning within them.
“Azriel you have about thirty seconds to explain to me what the hell the bitch is talking about, or so help me god, you will have no balls left.”
He knew that they’d have to tell people eventually, but this is not how he wanted to tell her sisters that they were dating.
Motherfucking shit fuck.
“It’s true, I saw them leaving the diner not so long, hand in hand. They looked very cosy.”
He vaguely saw Ianthe turn on her heel and saunter away after that, satisfied that she’d caused enough damage for one day. He was about to say something, anything, to dissolve the situation, but Elain beat him to it.
“Nes, please calm down. We had only just made it official between us this week. We weren’t ready to tell anyone yet, but I like him. I really like him, so, can’t you be happy for us? Please Nesta?”
It was official, he was dead. There was no way he would be allowed to live his life now that it was confirmed. And if she acted like this just because they were dating, how the hell were they going to be able to tell everyone about the little life they had created? Luckily for him Feyre managed to calm Nesta down, bless her soul. She and Azriel had always had a different sort of friendship and right now, he was so grateful for that.
“Come on Nes, we know Az. We know he’s good enough for her and that he’ll treat her right. And think, we can do triple dates now, won’t that be fun?”
“Fine. But know this Az, if you hurt her in anyway shape or form, I’ll break your fucking legs with a hammer.”
He let out a breath he hadn’t known he had been holding at the averted crisis, mouthing a ‘thank you’ to the girl beside him, receiving a gentle smile in return. Suddenly, his phone buzzed in his pocket, so he pulled it out while everyone was distracted, and reading the text on the screen, he couldn’t help the grin that stretched across his face.
Uh, I have an appointment booked at the clinic. It’s the twelve week scan because it’s good to have one then; or so I’ve read. Would you like to come? You don’t have to obviously, I can go by myself, but I thought I’d ask. No pressure.
-El
Stretching his leg under the table to hook his ankle around hers, he saw her jump before she started playing back while he answered;
Of course I’d like to come. I can’t wait to see him/her. I told you I was all in, Elain, and I meant it. Every scan and every check up, I’ll be there to hold your hand. We do this together.
-Az
