Azriel x gn!reader

I can’t stop thinking about Azriel and cuddling with him during the night, especially after he has been away for too long because of a mission.

He is holding you tightly against him, his strong arms wrapped around you and his legs entangled with yours. You can’t really see much, the moonlight coming through the window being the only source of light. But the atmosphere is incredibly intimate, and you feel warm inside from the way your mate is cuddling you.

It’s really late, and you should probably sleep, but you can’t because of the way Azriel has his forehead pressed against yours and he holds your jaw with one hand, guiding you in the kiss. He is kissing you slowly, his tongue pressing against yours and exploring around your mouth. He is tasting you like he has all the time in the world.

You have a hand cupping his face while the other gently scratches his undercut, making him moan in your mouth from the feeling. Both of your mouth are swollen, and you’re both panting, but the cuddling in these special moments won’t go further. Both of you are sleepy and, especially Azriel, doesn’t really have the strength to do anything else.

His eyes are always closed and, with the passing of time, also his kisses become more lazy and tired. His strong frame relaxes against you, and you feel the comforting weight of having him next to you.

When you have to breathe, you pull back just a little to observe his face, and a little smile spreads on your lips. You caress his hair back from his forehead and leave a soft kiss there.

Meanwhile, you gently reach down the bond, caressing the wall of his mind, silently asking him “will you let me inside?”. A moment later, you feel him lowering all his walls and you let out a soft sigh at the comforting presence of him all around you.

“I love you,” he murmurs, leaving a soft kiss on your bruised lips from all the bites he gave you. You smile softly and close your eyes, feeling sleep slowly claim you. “I love you too,” you whisper back, holding him tighter before you fall asleep together.

azriel was gonna kill cassian.

how could the general of the night court, the man responsible for the high lords' armies actually be so forgetful?

cassian told him it was something about a new mating bond, which azriel knew was ridiculous, cassian and nesta have been mated for 100 years already. he probably just wanted to sleep in with his wife, something azriel figured he would also want if he knew what it was like to be mated to someone.

either way, he was still pissed off.

it was also unbelievable that the only thing feyre wanted to eat during her second pregnancy were lemon tarts. lemon tarts specifically from the new bakery the high lady was obsessed with, Lemon Dreams.

she could have anything in the world and she chooses lemon tarts?

azriel was really reconsidering how he felt about his High Lady.

he supposed the place was cute… in a country farmish sort of way. it wasn’t really his style, but he supposed he could see the appeal. calming jazz played in the background, while daisies were lay scattered across dark wood counters, and the coffee and berry aroma’s filled the air. it seemed so out of place compared to the dark blue’s, purples, and blacks that normally filled the spaces of velaris’ cafes.

“anything you’re looking for specifically?” a voice broke out from behind the counter and azriel’s heart fell to his feet.

there you stood, bright and beautiful and smiling up at him, and oh gods you were beautiful… and speaking right at him! what did you say again? “huh? oh sorry, i-i just completely zoned out, what were you saying again?”

You blinked at him once… twice… and then you giggled at him and azriel thought that if could bottle it up and carry it with him, he might never have to go to majda for healing ever again.

“its okay. must just be one of those days right?” you clearly carried the sunshine in your smile, otherwise the shadowsinger wouldn’t have to turn away when you made eye contact.

“yeah,” was he actually out of breath right now? great mother, he was pathetic.

you made your way further down the counter before turning to him again, “so are you looking for something specific?”

“yeah, my friend she wanted a couple of lemon tarts? you have those right?”

“which ones was she looking for?”

“which one?” azriel was confused. isn’t there only one kind of lemon tart?

“yeah, i have lemon-mint, lemon-berry, original, lemon and cream, and i can make specialty tarts for future orders if she’s looking for something in the future.”

it was then that azriel realized why this bakery was called Lemon Dreams. the display trays were filled with lemon desserts. “wow, uh sorry. i didn’t realize that there were so many kinds of lemon tarts… original i guess?”

“original?”

“yeah! that should work… i hope?”

“hmm…” you started, “who’s it for?”

“what?” there was no way you could know who wanted this lemon tart! velaris is a busy city, you could hardly ever know all the people in your own neighborhood.

“is she a regular? i remember all of my customers.”

“all of them?”

“every single one! just give me a hint, i think i could figure it out.”

azriel pondered for a moment. it wasn’t like he was putting the high lady a risk… if she really came here so often you probably knew her. and you looked terribly cute, with those hopeful eyes staring into his, “she’s pregnant.”

“feyre?”

he blinked.

you clapped your hands together, lit up and full of joy, “seriously? i almost thought i was gonna get it wrong!”

“how- how could you possibly know that?” he was shocked. there had to be many pregnant faes who loved lemon tarts!

“i’ve never met someone so passionate about lemon tarts quite like our high lady.” you began pulling various lemon tarts into a bag, nodding towards his left, “she made me that painting right there.”

azriel turned to see a painting of a field of lemon trees under the night sky. it looked exactly like the work he had seen in feyre’s studio a few weeks before. “i didn’t realize you two knew each other.”

“she says this place inspires her. sometimes she brings her sketchbooks and drinks tea in here for hours.”

“really?”

“oh yeah! honestly, i think she does it to try and get more people in here. i was kind of dying before she started coming around.”

“really? but it's so… peaceful here.” azriel couldn’t imagine people not wanting to be in this bakery. he wanted to be in here all the time (mostly just to see you smile but regardless he wanted to be there).

“it’s not very night courtly is it though? i mean that’s fine! but i can see why some might be hesitant to stop by. for you?”

azriel realized you had probably been waiting for him to add to the order, but he couldn’t think of anything he wanted more than to see you smile again, “what’s your favorite?”

“my favorite?”

“yeah. i’ll take whatever you like the most.”

your eyes light up, “cake or pastry?”

“pastry now, cake next time.” azriel couldn’t even believe the words coming out of his mouth.

“lemon danish?”

“is it your favorite?”

“today it is.”

“it changes?”

“every day.”

“well then, i guess i might need to come back and see what else is good?”

you handed him the bag of lemon-flavored treats, “you should.” azriel reached in his pocket to pay you but you stopped him before he could, grabbing his hand and moving it away from his pocket and towards his chest, “it's on the house.”

“what? no. i should-”

“any friend of feyre’s is a friend of mine. you can pay next time.” before azriel could argue any more, you had already walked back into the kitchen leaving him alone at the counter. still he dropped a rather large bill in your tip jar, determined to pay.

he walked back to the house of wind with a smile on his face, only for it to be replaced by a scowl when he saw cassian and nesta lounging on the couches with the rest of the inner circle.

“you’re late, brother.”

“cas if you don’t shut it i’ll rip your wings off.”

cassian visibly flinched at the threat, but still looked toward the bag of goodies, “whatcha get for me?”

“nothing,” azriel slapped his hand away, “you’re not pregnant are you?”

“i could be if you loved me more.”

the group erupted into laughter as he handed the bag to the high lady, “for you, sister.”

she began digging through the bag, “thanks, az! i can’t tell you how much i’ve been craving these.”

“it’s all she asks for.” sighed rhys, voice tired from his mate’s antics and new love of lemon tarts.

“oh, what's this?” feyre lifted a pastry into the air.

“mine. sorry, i forgot to take it out.”

“is that a lemon danish?” mor exclaimed, entirely perplexed as to why the shadowsinger knowingly purchased a treat, let alone a lemon-flavored one.

nesta scowled, “why are you freaking out over a lemon danish?”

“because azriel hates lemons?”

“you hate lemons?” asked, feyre.

“he’s hated lemons for as long as i can remember!” cassian jumped up, “cute cashier or something?”

“i like lemons!” argued azriel.

cassian just gave him a look, “then take a bite.”

“fine!” the shadowsinger argued, before sinking his teeth into the treat, immediately regretting the decision. It was entirely too sweet, too sour, and just not at all something he liked. His face twisted, clearly not enjoying the dessert, while his brothers cackled at his misfortune. “i hate you both.”

You were taken in the night, and you were terrified. The one time Azriel was sent on a mission far away, you were taken.

Before you could even awake fully, or even contact him through the bond, a sedative was injected in you. You don’t what’s it called, but not only did it knock you out, it took your magic too.

Waking up with more bruises, than you can count, and in a very uncomfortable chair. You did not know you these people were, but you knew one thing, they wanted information. Moving your head up the best you could towards the opening door, walked in two men. One went to the side as one stood in front of you, ready to interrogate you, painfully. But you knew, you weren’t going to give them nothing. And it was going to hurt.

Azriel would not rest. Would not sleep, eat, nothing till he got to you. He was far away in Prythrian from you, you were staying with Feyre and her sister Nesta for a “girls week” while he was gone. He was happy to know that you would be safe and happy, having fun while he was away. Or that’s what he thought.

He felt something in the night though the bond- it was a flicker of something before it was gone. It was fear. Immediately he shot up into the air. He has never abort a mission but, usually if you had a nightmare it wouldn’t be something like this-

What the hell are you doing? Rhysand seethed in his mind.

Something’s wrong- please, he had never pleaded before, check on y/n- Azriel still rushed through the clouds of the night.

y/n? They never came here to Feyre. Where is she? Rhysand asked, worriedly.

Shit.

Azriel didn’t reply, he was almost there, he had never flown so fast. He then continued discussing with Rhsyand. They had never made it Feyre and Nesta. Instead of heading for Rhsyand he rushed to their home, he didn’t bother getting his spare key they gave him, he kicked down the door before running to their room, the lamp was on but..the bed was empty. His roar of anger and anguish shook the mountains as he left as swiftly as he came.

He desperately tried to search through the bond. But he could barely get anything, someone drugged his mate- he growled at the thought. He was going to find them. And kill them.

He rushed into Rhys office, where he was already waiting with Feyre pacing on the side of the room. “Their side of the bond is completely shut down, I can barely get anything.” He was clinging onto it.

“We get them back Az.” Feyre reassured him (and herself). He growled before going to leave,

“Wait, Azriel.”

Rhys had found some pointers to who could have taken her. Some of one of the illyrians that rebelled and left the court. The fact that it was illyrians made him grow impossibly more angry and, scared, for you.

Him and Rhys flew through the cold air, morning soon, towards the camp. The bond slowly grew stronger, you were awake…and injured. Cassian had joined them at some point during the flight.

They had arrived, as much as he wanted barge in and kill anything in his way to his mate, he must plan first. He was the spymaster, and his shadows could-

Never mind, because Cassian flew into the building like a boulder thrown from the sky. Guess he could use that excuse to also barge in. He flew in after, with Rhys sighing, perched on a tree behind him. He slayed every man he came across, and freed any Illyrian female. He would kill everything that would even think to harm you.

Azriel reached you first. You were barley conscious, if that. You slumped into him, exhausted and hurting..we’re those tears on your cheeks? You had been through so much, and it hurt-like hell. Who was here? Why can you barely breathe or stand? Are they going to hurt you again?!-

“Shh, It’s alight dear, I’m here, your safe, I won’t let you, or let anyone hurt you again.” It was Azriel, who was wiping you tears away with his thumbs as he held your face to him. As if you would get hurt again if he let you go. You were situated on his lap as he held tightly onto you, his wings around you, shrieking you from the world.

Over time your breathing slowed down, he held you for as long as you both needed. The outside world did not matter. After a long while you were snuggled into him, his hand holding your head to his chest, as another figure entered the room. He instantly turned you away from them, shielding you with his body. You relaxed as you realized it was Cassian, he was covered in blood, but a look of concern and relief on his face (that was possible?). “No more are left. Let’s go.” You have never heard Cassian so quiet before.

Azriel stood up, still holding your sniffling form to him, he would not let go of you, till you were safe. He carried you through the hallways, purposely shielding your eyes form the bloody walls and bodies of men on the ground. You three met up with Rhys before you all took to the sky.

Az looked down at you and gave a soft kiss to your forehead. Not long after you arrived back to Veleris. The townhouse was closest, we’re Feyre and Nesta waited. He took you right upstairs first, he knew you didn’t want to deal with anyone right now, (neither did he) to his room.

He asked you softly if you wanted a bath. You felt so dirty but shook your head no, content in his arms. He comforted you through the night. Holding you tight within his arms in his bed, surrounded by his sent and him entirely. He would deal with everyone for you tomorrow. You don’t need to worry about a thing.

WATCHING THEM FALL FOR SOMEONE ELSE — acotar boys

note: not proof read, i wrote this when i was upset so idk if it makes sense, trying out a different style/format

RHYSAND - misunderstanding

rhysand is someone who constantly has to deal with pressure on him. from his family, from his work, it all never ends. you were a breath of fresh air for him. you filled those gaps in his day where he could just be himself.

maybe it was foolish for you to believe you could occupy any more space than that. some people in life aren’t meant to be significant, but simply someone you can pass some time with.

“i’m sorry,” he muttered. the only time you had ever heard him stutter and look away from you when he spoke. “i just have a lot going on right now.”

you decide to just accept the rejection. you hadn’t asked to stay in touch, or to still be friends. you didnt want to bother troubling him anymore than you already did from his busy life. you just nodded, said you understood and left.

weeks later he’s on your doorstep, ringing your doorbell and tapping his foot anxiously against the concrete ground for you to come out. “but i can make time for you,” he wanted to say. until he suddenly gets a message calling him in for an emergency. by the time you had come and opened your door, you were just faced with an empty doorframe and no trace of rhysand but his footsteps.

CASSIAN - waiting too long to confess

cassian was someone that caught your eye from the moment you had met. he was always someone in the back of your mind, but his presence there had only increased the more you got to know each other. he’s someone you became more comfortable with overtime until you’d find yourself actively trying to get closer to him and wanting to learn more about him.

you had still never heard from him about his mother or how he met his friends. on why he’s still willing to take on everyone else’s burdens despite his own struggles. and perhaps you never would after hearing about him being with someone else.

perhaps you had stalled too long to confess, to actually talk to him about something that wasn’t jokes and banter. someone else beat you to it.

you think of all the chances you’d had, that time everyone else had left you two alone at rhy’s house or that time he’d offered to bring you home, and maybe instead of wondering about him, you could’ve actually seen for yourself.

AZRIEL - unrequited/one sided love

azriel was never someone who had a lot to say, always the first one to leave and the last one to arrive. all your friends scoffed at you for liking such a mysterious guy.

you had been an acquaintance for some time, always noticing the little ways he would smile at you or stay behind to make small talk. maybe it was just all in your head, but part of you felt like you could actually get to him.

you felt that the reason he kept giving you the cold shoulder was just because he tends to be nervous right? the reason he always gave you short and rigid responses.

when you see him leaning against a wall talking with someone else, laughing with them, probably letting them in all the way when you’d wished he would just give you an inch, that’s when you’d realized how wrong you had been.

LUCIEN - giving him up willingly

watching lucien fall in love again is like losing your best friend. you knew you weren’t ready to pursue him and to commit to a relationship, so you let him go.

you still remember that look he gave you, the way the light in his eyes had died when you told you that you felt the same but wanted to wait. maybe he did deserve someone better than you, someone who wouldn’t string him along for who knows how long.

“you should go for it,” you smile as you nudge him to talk to someone else. he gives you a look, as if hes waiting for approval, giving you one last chance to take him back and ask him not to leave. you don’t, but instead your smile drops when you watch him look at someone else with that same gaze.

slowly the distance between the two of you grew, more and more of his time being taken up by someone who could actually give him a relationship. losing lucien didn’t just mean losing a lover, but your best friend too.

The three brothers have always been very close and for centuries that has never changed. They had their arguments and physical fights, but they always understood each other and worked it out in the end. Everything remained normal between them for five centuries, even after everything that happened Under the Mountain, the three brothers kept their relationship the way it always was.

Until they meet you. You and Eris Vanserra were always close and endured Beron's abuse together like sibilings and trusted each other completely and you were helping him with his plans to overthrow Beron so Eris could become the new High Lord of the Autumn Court. Because of the alliance Eris was making with the Night Court to make this possible, you met your mates, the three brothers.

You knew something was wrong the moment you stepped into Hewn City. It wasn't just because that was where the real Night Court was supposed to be, or what everyone thought it really was, but because there was something strange in the air that left you intrigued and slightly scared. Only when you finally came face-to-face with the High Lord, the General and the Spymaster you have finally understand.

Mates. They were your mates. You knew it the moment you saw Rhysand's purple eyes gleam, Cassian's shocked expression, and Azriel's stern face soften. The mating bond clicked into place and your body was filled with mixed feelings. Excitement, confusion and fear. It didn't seem possible, there was no way one person could have three mates, right? Your mind tried to search for logical answers but there was no logic, they were your mates and they knew it.

To say they were blown away was a huge understatement. They didn't know what they were supposed to do the moment they found out you were their mate. They tried to keep calm, the mask they always wore, but they couldn't, not when they were as shocked as you are about this mating bond. How was it possible for a person to have more than one mate? And what were the chances that all three were yours? You were their mate, that was a fact, and it didn't take long for them to come to terms with each other.

At first they tried to solve it in a ''friendly'' way. Well, friendly in their ways, which resulted in Cassian and Azriel fighting with their fists on the ground and Rhysand staring at them with disdain. They needed to come to terms with each other before deciding how you would be introduced into the relationship. That was the master plan, but needless to say, that's not what happened.

It was Rhys who proposed a deal to share you after Cass and Az got tired of fighting each other. The arrangement was simple but it would be efficient for the three of you: each day you would spend with one of them, individually, except for specific moments when the three would be together with you. It could have happened that way, but you chose not to accept the mating bond. Or at least you tried to reject them and needless to say they didn't take it very well.

Why would you try to reject them? That wasn't right and they would never accept that. You were theirs, Mother herself had made this happen and you thought you could just reject them and it would be all right? Well, you couldn't. They didn't want to force you into this, to accept them, they wanted you to go willingly, but you made the wrong choice and it was their duty, as your mates, not to allow it.

So they kidnapped you. It wasn't the best choice to make, but you would understand why all of this and come to love them the same way they loved you, well, that's what they thought. You could remain reluctant and deny them all you wanted, but nothing would change that you are theirs as much as they are yours and nothing and no one would change that. No one would help you and even if they tried, they would never get past them without being torn apart.

Rhysand is most demanding of your attention and is constantly pestering you for it. He gets jealous easily and when that happens nothing good will come of it. He doesn't want to have to invade your mind, but if he feels you're lying in any way he will do so with no remorse. Rhys likes to have you sitting on his lap at all times, whether it's meetings or dinner parties, he prefers having you that way. The High Lord loves showering you with expensive and lavish gifts in an attempt to please you, and will sulk and become irritated if you try to refuse them. Rhysand would like to make you his High Lady/High Lord if you accept.

Cassian is the quietest in his obsession, he's not as demanding as his brother and not as possessive, he's the softest and most affectionate. He likes to spend time with you in his own way, which includes bear hugs and teaching you how to fight. Unlike the others, he wants you to learn to defend yourself and will be the one to teach you. Cass is jealous but will rarely have outbursts, usually he will take his anger out on whoever made him jealous and make you apologize to him for making him jealous, as well as being overly protective. Cassian is an emotional manipulator and will use it against you, but only if he thinks you deserve it. A real soft but just for you.

Azriel is the most dangerous. He is so possessive and controlling that it is overpowering, as well as being a skilled stalker. You will never be alone, one of his shadows will always be next to you and whispering your every move to him. Az is very protective of his mate and dutiful, although he is very aloof, he has his moments and enjoys their company silently, usually with his head resting on your shoulders and his shadows circling the two of you in a protective fashion. rhys wants to snuggle up with you on the couch with some candles and the fuzziest blanket you own. his favorite thing is to either put on a nostalgic movie or a scary movie so he can hold you really close to him when you get scared. all the lights will be off to add to the cozy ambiance but also because he loves that you can watch the rain fall against the window better.

feyre

the second she even gets a sense that it's going to rain she is suggesting a pottery day in her studio. she will put on some soft music and the two of you will work on your clay skills throughout the day. if it's available she will make sure you get to use the studio room with the floor to ceiling windows so you can use the falling rain as inspiration for your work.

cassian

the second it's cold and rainy cassian wants to cook. but, he’s not just cooking anything, he’s going to be making top tier comfort food. it doesn't what your go to comfort food is, he knows it and is already making it before you can even realize it's raining outside. however, all opinions aside, his top favorite thing to make on rainy days is a delicious soup with homemade bread to dip into it.

azriel

az loves being out in the rain. he thinks the mountains look the prettiest in weather like this, so he loves to go on rainy hikes/flights and explore. something about the feeling of fresh rain on his wings makes him feel so happy and alive, so he will always be dragging you out for some adventure or another when it starts raining.

mor

more is big on the "stay inside day" the moment she senses rain in the air. it doesn't matter what kind of plans either of you had because they are all being thrown out the window. it's now going to be a wine and cuddles kind of day, complete with a soak in a giant heated path (think acomaf above the court of nightmares)

she hates the rain. everything about it is unappealing to her; the cold, the wet, the noise. if the two of you had plans to go out and it starts raining, she’s definitely going to be canceling the plans. you will end up staying in and trying to figure out something to do so you don't go crazy from boredom.

-If a character is part of the Lgbtq+ community i will not pair them with a gender they don’t like romantically (like Ian Gallagher x fem reader but i can do GN reader). This doesn’t mean i won’t write sibling or platonic reader for that person
