Buir!Rex Headcanons
Pairing: Rex x Fem!Reader Warnings: Brief mention of pregnancy, parenting/parenthood, fluff. A/n: as promised here are some of my headcanons about Rex as a buir, based off this art I posted. I haven't written for the star wars fandom in a very long time, pls be kind. feedback is always appreciated. Proof read by @sugared-tea
Rex is obviously very paternal, but I don’t think he ever thought about having kids. Meeting Cut and Suu made him realize he could, but he still didn’t believe he would. He remained hesitant about the idea even after meeting you.
After you dated Rex for a while, and the topic of having a family came up, he shied away from it.
Rex’s main hesitation about starting a family was the fear that the wrong people would find out. He knew for certain that he would be decommissioned, but he was absolutely horrified of what would possibly happen to you or the child.
He was also hesitant because he was constantly on the frontlines. He would rarely be able to see his family, and it just didn’t seem fair. He also knew there was always the chance that something could happen to him.
Because of his fears you had both agreed that the possibility of starting a family was off the table for now.
Which is why I believe that if you were to get pregnant it would be a complete accident.
When you initially told him he was scared shitless. Rex.exe has stopped working. But even though he’s scared he’s so fucking happy.
Be prepared for Rex to be very clingy when he’s on leave during your pregnancy. Even though he’s exhausted he just wants to take care of you, but you want to take care of him. So it’s a bit of a battle to get him to relax and convince him that he doesn’t have to pamper you all the time.
I headcanon that all clones are artistically talented in some capacity, so Rex helps you paint the nursery when he can. He paints little loth cats along the borders of the walls, with all different colors and patterns.
When it comes to thinking of names he’s not particularly picky. He liked most of the names you suggested, but when you mention the name Lillia he agreed almost immediately.
Unfortunately he’s not there when your daughter is born, and it tears him apart. A mission went on longer than it should have so he returned to Coruscant a couple days after the birth of your child. You’re not mad at him, of course, but that doesn’t stop him from being mad at himself.
Lillia is the GAR’s best kept secret. The 501, the 212, the 104, and the Coruscant guard would protect her with their lives.
Rex is scared to hold her at first. She’s just so tiny and fragile that he thinks he’s going to hurt her. Once you get him more comfortable with holding her he never wants to put her down.
One of the first things he does once he’s home for shore leave is take his armor off so he can hold your baby.
Any time Lilia wears something with 501’st blue he melts.
Rex adds Lillia’s handprint to his armor, wanting to have a constant reminder of who he’s fighting for.
During shore leave, Rex is inseparable from his family. He missed you both and wants to spend every second  with you.
He also makes sure to bring your daughter gifts every time he returns. He will spoil her till his last breath.
Rex and the 501 made a tooka plushie  for Lillia, it’s 501st blue with all their tattoos on it. The tooka will be her favorite toy for her entire childhood. She goes absolutely everywhere with it.
The 212, 104, and Coruscant guard catch wind of this and make her a tooka plushie with their colors and tattoos as well.
Rex tells his brothers that Lillia doesn’t have a favorite ba’vodu, but she does. It’s Echo.
If you bring Lillia to greet Rex and the 501st once they’re on shore leave she will hug Rex first, of course, but then curves Fives and her other uncles to run right to Echo.
She bosses her ba’vodu around. Whenever they’re on Coruscant Rex will carry her around on her hip, telling her what orders to give her uncles. Rex knows that none of his brothers can argue against the orders because of how adorable Lillia is.
Because of this, some of her ba’vodu have started calling her alor’ika.
Tup is also one of Lillia’s favorite uncles, mostly because he wears matching hairstyles with her. He learned how to braid just so he can match with his niece.
Anakin once watched Lillia for you and Rex, he snuck her into the temple and sat her with younglings who were in the library for “story time”. He may have forgotten about her for a couple hours, but he never tells you that.
Ahsoka adores Lillia and definitely makes little friendship bracelets with her once she’s old enough. Lillia would hold on to the bracelet from her favorite aunt for her whole life.
Lillia is an absolute menace to Cody. Cody babysits when he can, so you and Rex can go on dates, and there are times where Lillia makes him regret it. One time he fell asleep on the couch while they were watching one of her favorite holofilms, and she got her markers out and drew all over him and his armor. If he tries to get her to go to bed on time she will have the most random burst of energy and insist on having a tea party.
You and Rex have come home from dates to find both of them still awake. Cody with bags under his eyes, wearing a tiara, and sitting on the universe’s tiniest chair at the universe’s tiniest table, surrounded by plushies, and drinking his tenth cup of pretend tea.
Lillia is a terror to Wolffe.  Will not listen to a single word he says, despite how stern he can be. For that reason, Wolffe rarely babysits.
The one time Fives babysat Lillia you and Rex came back to find them both having the biggest sugar rush you’ve ever seen, because Fives fell for her tooka eyes when she asked for candy after her bed time.
When Echo babysits Lillia is the most calm you and Rex have ever seen her. She goes to bed on time, she doesn’t ever throw tantrums around Echo, she is the most well behaved child in the universe.
So, to say that Lillia is spoiled by her ba’vodu is an understatement.
Lillia also spoils her uncles.
She has made several bracelets for the men in the 501st. She has also given them plenty of hand drawn pictures that they immediately hang in the barracks. Fives, Echo, Jesse, and Kix carry their drawings with them at all times.
Remember the plushie they made her?? When they’re home from shore leave and seem sad or upset she will give them the tooka to cuddle with.
When Echo “died” Rex brought Fives to the apartment so he wouldn’t isolate himself.  Fives sat on the couch with his head in his hands when Lillia snuck over and gave him the plushie. Fives hugged it, and her, very tightly and cried.
Before their shore leave ends, she would draw a picture of Echo, Fives, and Rex and give it to them.
Because Lillia is so young she may not fully grasp why some of her uncles are never coming back. So be prepared for her to ask you where Echo, Waxer, Boil, Dogma, Tup, and Fives are every now and then.
Once she understands it breaks her little heart.
When Echo is rescued, he’s shocked at how much she’s grown.
His change in appearance doesn’t phase her, she’s just happy that her favorite uncle is safe.
If the bad batch is ever on Coruscant at the same time as the 501, Lillia will run to Echo to give him his hug as if nothing at all has changed.
Rex definitely gets baby fever now. Especially as Lillia continues to grow, he’ll miss having a baby. Of course, he talks to you about the idea of having another. If you don’t want one, he’s completely fine with that. If you do want one, he wastes no time.
If you have another baby he will also add their handprint to his armor, right next to Lillia’s.
Lillia will be the most protective big sister, which makes Rex so proud.

Wanna Blast Some Klankas, Kid?

“And Ba’vodu Fives is gonna be there?” The young girl asks, perched on Hardcase’s shoulders. Her wild dark curls are restrained in a ponytail, wearing a blue T-shirt with “property of the 501st” on the front.
“And Jesse, and Rex,” Hardcase answered his extremely excited daughter.
“I’ve been practicing and practicing!” She chirps.
“I know,” he answers with a laugh. “You’re doin good, Sparks. What do you say, wanna go blast some klankas?”
She cheered from his shoulders as they entered the training building.
“What are the rules?” He asks her.
“Always listen to Ba’vadu Rex and only sometimes listen to Ba’vodu Fives.” She giggled.
“The real ones, Sparks,” he laughed.
“Stay with you, no wandering off, no exploring without you or one of my Ba’voduse. Follow all directions and… umm, be nice to my cousins!” She lists proudly.
“Good job!” Hardcase encouraged her, “Now let’s go find everyone.”
Rex’s plan to make this less of a fiasco than the field trip to the Resolute was evident.  There were signs pointing to a meeting spot. However Jesse was waiting in the hall.
“Uncle Jesse!!!!” Sparks squealed from her dad’s shoulders.
“Hello Sparks, ‘Case how’s it going,” Jesse smiled.
Even if Hardcase had answered Jesse wouldn’t have noticed it, as soon as they were in range she leapt on Jesse hugging his head.
“Is ik'aad here?” She asked.
“He’s too little for blaster practice, it’s not good for little ears” Jesse said as he resituated his niece so he could breathe.
“I know, buir says I have to wear ear muffs!” She agrees. “My other ba’voduse here?”
“Fives, Echo, and Rex are with their crews. Dogma and Kix went to the med bay something about another thing for you verd’ika to learn.” Jesse told her.
They entered a room with a mixed bunch of children.  Adopted nat born and the youngest of the vode, stepchildren, and nat borns. The group ranged in age from four to about seven.
Sparks jumped down from Jesse’s arms and dodged around cousins heading to her Ba’voduse.  Hardcase and Jesse got mobbed by the group of children. All of the kids talking at the same time, three were trying to climb Hardcase while he laughed and tried to catch anything any of them were saying.
On the other side of the room his daughter had attacked Tup for her next hug. “Ba'vodu Tup, Buir broke FOUR hair ties trying to put my hair up today!”

Note
no cuz with the newest trends post now I’m imagining the girls forcing crosshair to do stuff with them like TikToks and different challenges and stuff and the entire time he’s just contemplating all his life choices.
He draws the line at TikTok. Hunter has actually banned TikTok from the house and anyone caught engaging with it (key word “caught”) will sleep outside. TikTok terrifies Hunter—ever since he learnt of thirst traps and then Wrecker tried to recreate one.

Finding Home Ch. 2  A voice in the wind
Well, here’s chapter two. I hope you like it!
Just as Cody was turning to see if there was anyone coming in or if they were just passing by, Luke looked up and stated, “Ma’s home.”
Cody hadn’t said a word since entering the tent, and Rex figured his brother was feeling uncomfortable.
So he asked him, “Ever had Bilerat Stew, Al’verde?”
“Never,” replied Cody quickly, shaking his head.
“Well you’re in for a treat; my Leia is becoming quite the cook.”
Leia beamed at her father in pride, then modestly said, “ Mama’s makes the best uj! And Ba’vodu Catanni makes really good gi dumpling soup. And Ba’vodu Patch’s  is much better than it used to-”
“All this talk of food is making me hungry, when are we gonna eat vod’ika?”
Cody turned his head at hearing Kebiin speak. It was the same voice that every young clone had, but there was more of an accent, as though the boy was used to speaking a different language. He figured it was Mando’a.
Leia turned to her brother, saying, “Oh, stop whining vod, or I’ll tell Mama that you don’t deserve any uj!”
Izaak gasped at the implication of the threat, then told his brother, “You better be nicer ori’vod, or L’ika will tell buir’ika.”
The corner of Rex’s mouth tipped up in amusement at his children and their conversation. He looked over at Cody and, trying to put the man at ease, asked him, “How do you like uj, Cody?”
“Haven’t had it before,” was the quiet reply.
Izaak looked at him with those blue eyes, blown wide in astonishment and disbelief. “Didn’t your Ma make it for you?”
Cody glanced at Rex, who had his eyes on his son. After a moment, Rex quietly told his son, “We didn’t have a ma.”
The child hung his head and mumbled an embarrassed apology.
Rex patted his son’s back. “It’s fine, ner ad’ika. Don’t pout son, you’re too old for that sort of thing.”
“Yes Buir.”
Rex gave a quick nod and turned to his older sons. “Anything happen while I was gone?”
Luke replied quickly,”Not really Buir.” He paused, then continued, “Well, uh, actually, you se-”
Kebiin suddenly burst out, “Luke and I figured out how to splice into comms!”
Rex was quiet for a second or more, his eyebrows bounced higher up than Cody remembered. “Did you do it manually or did you use the datapad?”
“The ‘pad.”
“Whose comm did you hack?”  interrogated the father.
The boys looked at one another, then Kebiin answered. “...Ma’s...”
Rex raised his eyebrow even higher and was quiet a moment, then asked with a hard voice, “And does she know that you hacked into her private comm?”
The boys mumbled an answer, heads hung low, and Rex furrowed his brow and with a firm, no nonsense voice said, “Heads up, look me in the eye and don’t mumble. You’re not younglings anymore so don’t act like it.”
The boys sat up straighter, looked at their father and replied with a quick “Yes sir.”
“Now, I asked you a question. Does your mother know that you hacked her comm?”
“No Buir.”
Rex sighed looking at his boys, and shook his head a little. “Alright, since I’m glad that you figured out how to hack into comms, you can stay for dinner.”
The boys relaxed a little, but Rex wasn’t finished. “But tomorrow, before breakfast, you’re both going to do twenty push-ups. Don’t ever hack into your mother’s comm again.”
The boys both replied with somewhat reluctant “Yes sir’s”, and the matter was closed.
Cody looked somewhat startled by the exchange, seeing the former 501st captain “parenting” was probably the most like the man he had known. He had seen Rex give vets and shinies alike, very stern dressing downs, but this was nowhere near as strict or authoritative as he used to be. Now, Rex wasn’t a captain punishing his men, he was a father scolding his children. And it frightened Cody, that the man he had known so well, the vod he had talked with last night, had practically disappeared! Seeing the ex-captain holding a child so gently, and bragging about how his daughter was becoming such a great cook was very, very strange, but seeing him do something that Cody had seen before, was even more strange, mostly because he thought he knew what would happen, but it didn’t.
Cody was almost starting to think that this man wasn’t CC-7567, but another clone, an imposter.
The thought left his mind as quickly as it entered. Of course it was really Rex. They had talked the night before of what had happened since they had last spoke and reminisced about when things were... not as complicated.
Rex turned his attention back to his brother, the man was starting to look even more uncomfortable. He decided that perhaps talking about something the ex-commander understood might help him not be quite as on edge.
“So, Al’verde,” he started, “tomorrow I’ll introduce you to some of the men you might know.”
Cody stiffened and gave Rex a look, but before he could do anything else, he heard a voice outside. The children didn’t seem to notice, but the clone, with his superior hearing, could make out a voice in the rising wind.
Just as Cody was turning to see if there was anyone coming in or if they were just passing by, Luke looked up and stated, “Ma’s home.”
