My thoughts during “The Sign” [SPOILERS!!!!!]

More thoughts under the cut
So I think most of us can agree that this is the best episode of Bluey so far. It was so emotional and satisfying in ways that are kinda new for Bluey. It answered so many questions while giving us a few new ones. I’ve been waiting for this episode for months and it did not disappoint in any way.
This is just a Chekov’s firing squad of an episode. As in a lot of stuff that was set up in earlier episodes all pay off in this episode. I kinda understand why people love soap operas now lol. I will say that this episode was a tad overwhelming for me in the best way possible. As in I had to pause and rewind every 30 seconds or so so I could emotionally process what was happening before moving forward (but that’s a me thing). There was just so much going on and I’m happy about that.
Now onto individual thoughts about specific things:
The callback to Baby Race (“you took your first steps in that house!”) really got to me because Baby Race was the first episode of Bluey that I watched and it immediately made me fall in love with it so it just got to me.
When Chilli said “Frisky and I came up here as teenagers to…um…think,” my mind started racing immediately with “what the FUCK happened at the Lookout?” “Who hurt Frisky and/or Chilli?” And I’m just so curious about what made Chilli say that line like that but we’ll probably never know what happened.
So yeah that scene at the end when the music was playing and Bandit ripped the sign out of the ground and Chilli tackled him to the ground ABSOLUTELY CHANGED my brain chemistry y’all. I can’t articulate my feelings any more than that.
I know some people were upset that Brandy ended up getting pregnant but I thought it was great for her! I’m happy for her! And I think that even though she got what she wanted in the end doesn’t negate the feelings she had about her infertility earlier. But I think we’re all wondering who the father is and I don’t know if the show really needs to answer that.
The whole message of “we’ll see” in terms of if something is good or bad is such a mature message that I never really thought of like that so I will be taking that philosophy forward in life. Congratulations Bluey, you managed to teach a 22-year-old childless person something new and insightful about life that I don’t think I’ve learned from another show.
I want to know more about what Bob was going through and feeling and why he went to India, but again, we’ll probably never know.
I just love how the wedding photos were beautiful but imperfect. Like of course we’re not perfect and nothing will ever be perfect but it’s beautiful and worth remembering anyway.
So many little jokes and moments were so funny in a mature way (I.e. “are we allowed to do that?” And Nana thinking there was about to be a baby announcement) were just so funny and memorable.
I think some people would say it’s a cop-out to end up not selling the house after building it up for 2 episodes but I don’t know, I think it works. I think Bluey and Bingo learned a valuable lesson and Bandit (and Chilli kinda) learned it’s not always about making their kids lives “perfect” in their eyes. Also I’m just personally glad they didn’t end up selling the house and I also kinda like that it wasn’t entirely their choice to keep it.
On a more serious note I think this episode has some interesting commentary on like gender roles and gender relations in straight relationships. In this episode Chilli and Frisky (both women) have to deal with their male significant others pressuring them to move with them far away from what they know and love. In the end they don’t end up moving and the men didn’t seem to have like malicious or selfish intent with it, they were just kinda basing their choices off their jobs instead of what’s best emotionally for their loved ones. But I think it’s interesting to have this conflict where gender is kinda brought up in a way (“because your husband is making you”). It kinda plays into the traditional idea of like men are the breadwinners and the family has to move with them regardless of what they actually want. And this episode kinda like deconstructs that and says “no, it’s not always about the job or money, it’s also sometimes about connections and emotional attachment.” And I’m not saying that you should never move or whatever, but really weigh your options. I just thought that it was interesting that this episode kinda touched on that.
So yeah that’s kinda the main thoughts I had on this episode if you made it this far thank you for reading my rambles and have a good one!

There should be an episode of Bluey where the parents obsessively watch a kids show that their own kids like just fine but don’t use as therapy.
Anyway, I like cried 5 times watching those new episodes.

Happy Halloween, my friend! I would be ever so grateful if you were to do more of the ghost au, it is marvelous so far! I'm hooked already and I can't wait to see where it goes!
Ghost AU Part 1
Happy not so Halloween!
Me either. I have no idea what’s gonna happen next.
Race was running late. He had set five alarms and didn’t remember waking up to a single one of them. So he threw on a sweatshirt and some jeans and rushed downstairs to find his dad calmly braiding Smalls’s hair as she ate her oatmeal and watched cartoons. “Why didn’t you wake me up?!” Race cried to his father as shoved a poptart in his mouth and grabbed his backpack, slinging it over his shoulder in one swift motion. Only, his bag happened to be open, sending all kinds of papers and assignments all over the floor. The boy groaned as he bent down to pick them up.
With a sigh, Jack shook his head. “You know the rules, Racer,” he insisted. “I won’t always be there to wake you up and if you miss classes, that’s on you.”
The kid rolled his eyes as he shoved things back into his backpack, shaking his head, finally taking an actual bite of the pop tart in his mouth. But he paused when he saw a paper he didn’t recognize, full of words in a language he did not speak. “The fuck is this?”
“Watch your mouth,” Jack scolded loosely, finally finishing with his daughter's hair. “What is it?” he asked.
Hearing the stress in his dad’s voice, Race just shook his head and crumbled it up, throwing it on the table. Smalls grabbed it and started to play with it as Race quickly kissed Jack’s cheek. “Nothin’, prob’ly,” he assured. “Love you, bye,” he called before he ran out the door to catch the train.
Jack sighed, tying off Smalls’s hair. He sniffled kissed the girl’s head. “You ready for daycare, baby?” he asked.
Smalls shrugged and yawned a bit. “Do I have to?” she asked.
“Yes, sweet girl, daddy’s gotta work today, so you gotta go ta daycare,” Jack stated, taking her now empty bowl and tossing it in the sink. “Come on, get your coat,” he urged.
But Smalls wasn’t listening. She was too busy running her finger over the words on the paper Race had found in his backpack. She hummed an old lullaby to herself as she read it, a smile forming on her face as she looked up and saw David in the doorway. “The man’s back!” she said gleefully.
Jack squinted. “Whaddya mean, baby?” he asked, looking towards where the little girl was pointing. He froze when he saw a man standing in the doorway of his daughter’s bedroom. He jumped back with a small cry, grabbing Smalls and holding her to his chest. “Who’re you?! What the hell are you doing?!”
“Daddy, it’s David!” Smalls giggled.
Jack was horrified. He grabbed a knife. “Get out of my house!” he screamed. The man didn’t seem bothered by his threat. He only stepped back into the room. So Jack rushed after him. “Hey!” He shoved the door to his daughter’s room wide open, freezing when he found it empty.
Smalls hummed in disappointment. “You scared him!” she said.
Jack rushed to the window, making sure it was locked. Then he set his little girl on the bed and began to check the room for any points of entry. When he found none, he turned back to her and held her hands. “Hey… that man, how does he get in, Saraya?”
Smalls shook her head. “He don’t. He lives here, like us,” she insisted.
Jack shook his head. “Baby, what does he do? Does he try to hurt you?”
“No, David’s nice. The bad man tries to hurt David though—“
“The bad man?” Jack asked, clearly in a panic. “Okay… hey, ya know what? We’re staying home today. Go watch your cartoons, honey, it’s alright,” he insisted, letting Saraya bound off back into the living room.
Jack’s heart was beating so fast he wasn’t sure he could keep up. He glanced to the window again, reaching for his phone. He dialed three little numbers before holding the thing to his ear. “Yeah, I’d like to report a break in.”
He looked over to his little girl sitting on the couch, happily watching cartoons and put a hand over his mouth, confused and concerned.
When he walked back out into the living room and kitchen, he looked down at that piece of paper on the counter. He paused when he saw what was written. “Help me, help me, help me, help me…” It was written over and over again. He glanced at his baby and then back to the paper, taking the thing and crumbling it up, about to toss it into the garbage before he stopped. Instead he tossed it onto the counter and walked over to his daughter, holding her close as he waited for the police.
Something was definitely not right here.

Hey, don’t cry. Maybe you just saw something you wanted, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. We all fail mum school sometimes, we can just try again tomorrow, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. You have to give it a go anyway, or you’ll be stuck in the tower with a stinky dragon for the rest of your life, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. Everyone gets sick sometimes, not just Bumpy, being sick is just a part of life, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. He should take care of himself for me because I still need him, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. Sometimes special people come into our lives, and then they have to go, but the times when they were here we’re happy though, maybe that makes it all worth it, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. Remember I’ll always be here for you, even if you can’t see me, because I love you, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. He’s not bad, he was just behaving badly, okay?
Hey, don’t cry. Heroes usually don’t want to go on a quest, but that’s what makes them heroes, they go anyway, okay?

Hey do you think you could maybe do some more of An Angel Come To Save Me? Some Jack and tiny Race fluff would be very much appreciated with everything going on. Thank you so much, I hope you have a great night/day!
An Angel Come to Save Me Masterlist
Jack had sniffled as he watched his son bounce around the park with far too much energy. The boy was three and completely wild. Jack found that he loved to jump and dance and move. He wanted to be grateful for that. Maybe he would be if he wasn’t so damn tired all the time. But right now, he was just waiting for the kid to wear himself down so Jack could put him down for a nap.
Another car sped by and the boy jumped up and down, waving at the person driving. Sometimes they honked back and sometimes they didn’t. Jack ran a hand down his face.
His little boy turned and rushed up to him. “Dada!” he squealed, climbing up onto the bench and then onto Jack’s lap. Jack wrapped his arms around the boy.
“What, sweet boy?” Jack asked, bouncing the boy on his knee a bit.
“Tummy’s rumbling!” the little boy said, looking down at his stomach.
Jack sighed and dug a half eaten granola bar out of his pocket. He’d swiped it from a convenience store on the way out. He pulled a bite of the thing off and let Race shove it into his mouth. It still stunned Jack sometimes how small the boy was. He couldn’t afford a doctor for the kid but he was sure if he did they would tell him that Race was too small for his age. Jack always watched him dance and move and hoped he didn’t use too much of his energy. Jack was nervous about getting them dinner tonight. He wasn’t sure what he could sneak out of the grocery store tonight. He sniffled, watching the boy lick his fingers clean.
The young man ran a hand over his son’s hair and let out a long breath. Race tilted his head and looked up at his father. “You so strong, dada…” he said out of nowhere.
Jack wondered if the boy’s perception of him would change as he grew up. Maybe Race would look at him one day and blame him, realize what was going on, realize that Jack couldn’t provide for him.
He was trying to tire Race out so that he could take a jacket some man had given them on the street one day, wrap the boy up in it, and let him sleep under the jungle gym. They’d been evicted last week. Jack knew he should go to David. He knew David would be furious he didn’t. But Jack didn’t want to do this again. He felt alone and he knew that if he overstayed his welcome, David would resent him for the rest of their lives.
All Jack could think to say to the little boy was, “One day, you’re gonna be stronger.” It was a promise he made. He needed the boy to know that. He would make sure Race got through this. And one day, he would be so much more than Jack ever was.
Race’s blue eyes looked up at his father and Jack melted beneath the gaze, running his thumb over the boy’s cheek.
All that mattered was this little boy. And even if one day the boy looked back and hated Jack for being unable to put a roof over his head, Jack would make sure Race never had to go through any of this ever again.
That was a promise.
