Basics of beginning witchcraft:
These aren’t anything new or special, but learning the basics is an essential when starting off 💖
Research is everything! Everyone’s craft is different, so relying purely on social media can be counterproductive and misleading since practices can vary and anyone can easily knowingly or unknowingly spread misinformation. There are no specific sites I’d recommend, just simply research as much as possible and pretty soon you’ll have the hang of it! Books are also great sources of information and can be found anywhere including online, thrift stores, book stores, or metaphysical stores. Although many books can easily spread misinformation as well, so always do research on one or an author. Historical books are always incredibly useful.
Witchcraft, Paganism, Satanism, and Wicca are all different. Witchcraft is the belief in and practice of magic. Paganism is the practice of any non mainstream religion, and is typically earth based or polytheistic (examples would include wicca, Hellenism, Norse paganism, Kemetism). Satanism can divide between being purely philosophical or involve the worship of Lucifer. Wicca is a stand alone earth based religion with specific principles and beliefs, and may not always involve witchcraft.
Witchcraft can’t go against the laws of nature. Simply put, witchcraft is just manipulating energies and cannot do anything such as defy gravity or physically transform something.
You don’t have to be a cis woman in order to practice witchcraft. This will make many angry, but your ability to practice magic doesn’t rely on genitalia or gender identity at all. Identifying as a woman and having a vagina doesn’t immediately make you the only one capable of doing spell work, and thinking that energies recognize and care about gender is idealistic thinking.
You can be an atheist and still practice witchcraft. The internet may lead you to believe that you have to worship various polytheistic deities in order to be a ‘real’ witch, but this is actually paganism. Energy work only requires deities if that is your religious belief.
Christians can practice witchcraft! Despite the notion that all Christians are entirely against witchcraft, this is false and there are many Christian witches who choose to work with information in the Bible, Christian deities, or saints. Wanting to practice witchcraft does not mean you must sacrifice Christianity.
Witchcraft does not require you to be Wiccan or Pagan. If you want to practice witchcraft by itself then practice! Wicca is a religion seperate from witchcraft which worships the Triple Goddess and Greenman and believes in things such as the threefold law, sabbats and esbats but does not always include the practice of witchcraft.
Certain practices and beliefs can be closed to those who do not belong to the ethnicity of origin, those who do not belong to the society, or are not initiated. This is not gatekeeping but purely basic respect. If you want to begin working a cultural path but are unsure of if it is closed simply google the origins and trust the practitioners themselves rather than tumblr as we can sometimes get things mixed up. Examples would include Indigenous practices, Hoodoo, Voodoo, Brujería, and Jewish practices.
Spirit guides are amazing to work with and can help your daily life and craft immensely. Some ways you can contact them are through meditation, divination, astral projection, lucid dreaming or just by simply asking. My personal favorite method is through the spirit messages oracle cards.
When using a new pendulum, always first ask which direction is yes/no/maybe and allow it to swing naturally. Make note of which direction corresponds to which answer.
Before doing any type of magic, learn basic protective methods. These can include protection spells, chants, sigils, crystals, and herbs.
Meditation is an amazing skill to learn when beginning. This can help with vital things such as focus, energy, grounding, chakra work, and help set the groundwork for more complicated topics such as lucid dreaming or astral projection.
Befriending and researching local harmless nature spirits is a good place to start off of. This is the safest way to begin spirit work and can be quite rewarding. I would personally suggest just starting with plant spirits and animal spirits.
There is no ‘right’ way to do witchcraft. Witchcraft is incredibly broad and there are practically infinite ways to go about it. Choose your own beliefs, create a practice specific to you, and don’t believe that you have to follow the set path of others. Unless what you’re doing is truly illogical and lacks research, trust that you know what is best for you.
Your practice is your own! Regardless of if you’re new or experienced never forget that you are the one who gets to decide what you do. Witchcraft is extremely personal to the practictioner and there is power to designing your own practice. Sometimes your own methods are the best of all.
These are just a “few” guidelines, by far everything important to know is not covered and continuing research is key. Witchcraft cannot simply be just doing spells at random, there has to be backing so knowing a clear ideology is of importance. Hope this helped!

lemon + salt spell for cleansing stale/negative energy
Tumblr media
What you need:
a lemon
a knife to cut the lemon
salt
a dish on which to pour salt
something to put it on (plate, bowl, etc.)
What to do:
cleanse all the tools and ingredients however you feel comfortable (i use sound thru music playing and smoke cleansing)
cut the lemon in half - if you're able, envision the lemon being able to access the negativity after being opened and slowly pulling all the stale or negativity in.
pour salt into the dish you have set aside and place your intention on the salt to allow it to keep the negativity in the lemon. Focus on the salt acting as a protective barrier for the lemon so the negativity cannot break free, not as a door that it cannot get in.
coat the lemon halves by putting them open-face first into the salt. If you may choose to sprinkle the salt on the lemon instead, there is no need for the dish for salt.
place the lemon halves with salt on the dish you have designated for them and you may put them in a room of your home or living space that holds the most stale or negative energy. If the whole place is equally stale/negative, place in the main room or kitchen or place that is frequented.
if the lemon molds, redo the cleansing spell, the rotting lemon means that it has collected a lot very quickly. best result is that the lemon dries out without molding. I normally repeat this every couple months.

Poppets :D
Generally, Poppets are effigies meant to represent a specific person, but you can get very creative with them.
1. Different Subjects: Poppets don’t have to be on humans. Instead they can be for your pets or homes or even more abstract things like businesses.
2. Different Mediums: Everyone has heard of the cloth or paper dolls used for poppets, but truly anything can be sculpted into a effigy, or assigned that person’s identity. This ranges from sculpting a poppet from clay, or naming a brick after that person. Other ideas include pumpkins, potatoes, balloons. Anything you can cast an intention on. Your selection is a great way to boost your intention as well, and should be considered before casting.
3. Different Intentions : For me at least, finding the right way to cast an intention can be difficult. Simply putting a few banishing herbs around a paper doll doesn’t have the same feeling as naming a soda can after someone and throwing in in the distance, never to be seen again. So consider how you interact with your poppet and how best to cast your spells.
More examples of unique poppet spells include :
Putting bandaids on it for health
Adding lips to it for communication
Leaving it around your garden for fertility
Hanging it with your keys to open new opportunities
Leave it in your fridge to chill out
Leave it in a bowl of candy to sweeten
And many more ✨

Reminding Yourself, You Don’t Owe Anybody Anything; Putting Yourself First
I had to take my emotions out of the equation at hand and really look at certain situations for what they really are. Most of the time, situations are a cause and effect, meaning an action resulting from your or others’ actions.
Recently, I’ve been thinking about the people around me and how they impact how I move among them daily. The mind is a powerful tool and sometimes a very dangerous one. The mind can make up all different scenarios that, more than likely, won’t even happen; I realized this by starting my spiritual journey. I had to take my emotions out of the equation at hand and really look at certain situations…

Whoa there, pardner! What have you done to make sure that belief or practice actually originates in ancient times and didn't come from the imagination of a repressed Victorian romantic?

This new AU was inspired by a number of things, one them being, well, Lilo and Stitch. Very, very loosely inspired. With a fantasy twist! Also inspired by all the theories from my lovely followers thinking that Vega was made through witchcraft. It isn't necessarily canon in Vega's main storyline, but it is here.
Lookit me, putting Wenclair in another AU where they're in a custody battle. Mostly because I've also been in a Once Upon a Time mood lately, which is the kinda vibe I'm going for when it comes to the fantasy aspect(i.e. a lil bit lazy and lore 90% pulled out of my ass)

Witchy Self-Care
*pulls out draft from over a year ago* ENJOY
Hi! this is a list of witchy self-care things you can do. Most of these are pretty basic on account that i wrote this ages ago but they definitely still work. Anyways, I hope these help :)
Do the dishes and dedicate it to your house spirit (if you have one) or a deity (if you're religious)
sweep/mop your floor in the shape of sigils
add rosemary (or rosemary water/essential oils) to the water you mop with to set an intention of cleansing
taking ritual a bath/shower
cleansing your energy. it's so basic but I forget more than i'd like to admit
dedicating time to yourself. it's just as important as dedicating time to your deities/other spirits
light shadow work or going to therapy. bettering your mental health also betters your spiritual.
go outside and ground yourself
take a nap (less witchy, more, I love naps. rest is important)
work out/stretch and dedicate it to an entity
do some gratitude
take 5 minutes to just sit and turn off your devices. you can use this time for anything, just take a second to get off screens and connect with the world around you
meditate. if you can't sit still long enough to meditate, just focus on taking 3 deep breathes
when you wash your face, draw sigils on your face with the cleanser and moisturiser
^do the same as above but with your body wash and when you wash your hair
say some affirmations/manifestations while brushing your teeth
just check in with yourself and see how you're feeling spiritually, psychically and emotionally. sometimes we don't actually know how we're feeling until we sit down and actually ask ourselves.
If anyone has any more to add please comment. I'll add them to the list (with credit of course)

Hi, I am a baby witch, I don't know if that is an actual thing, that's the problem I don't know what to trust, and there is a lot of sources and not to mention the negative notion around witchcraft in general. Where should I begin, I have done shadow work, learnt about herbs, crystals and their properties, Know my bit on moon phases. I know this process is a life-long learning and one thing doesn't fit all but I genuinely need some guidance. Thank you for your time.
Hello, and welcome to your magical journey! First of all, let me assure you that being a "baby witch" or “beginner witch” is absolutely a real thing, and it's completely okay to feel overwhelmed by the vast amount of information out there and the negative perceptions surrounding witchcraft. It's important to remember that your path as a witch is unique to you, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to practicing witchcraft.
It's wonderful that you've already delved into shadow work, learned about herbs and crystals, and explored the phases of the moon. These are all valuable foundations for your magical practice! As you continue your journey, here are some suggestions to help you navigate the vast world of witchcraft and find your path:
Trust Your Intuition: Trust yourself and your instincts as you explore different aspects of witchcraft. Listen to your inner voice and follow what resonates with you personally.
Start Small: Witchcraft (like you said!) is a lifelong journey of learning and discovery, so don't feel like you have to know everything all at once. Start with small practices and gradually build upon them as you feel comfortable. I have joined a couple Discord servers for the friendship and the inspirations. I prefer to do the research and all on my own.
Find Your Focus: Reflect on what aspects of witchcraft resonate most with you and where you feel drawn to explore further. Whether it's herbalism, divination, spellcraft, or something else entirely, focus on what interests you the most.
Seek Reliable Sources: With so much information available online and in books, it can be challenging to discern what is accurate and trustworthy. Look for reputable sources, experienced practitioners, and community recommendations to guide your studies. Now, this is usually the most difficult task. There is so much information! What is true? I take everything with a grain of salt, but I respect what doesn't belong to me. Remember, you need nothing but yourself and your intent to be a witch - no candle, no herb, no broom, no cloak, just yourself with your intent. That's the most powerful thing. I know when I was starting out I really leaned into The Witch Of Wonderlust on YT and Chaotic Witch Aunt on YT has grabbed my attention as well. They have great info and resources for beginners! Olivia (TWoW) has a playlist for beginners with lots of notable books, podcasts, and other content creators!
Connect with Community: Seek out supportive communities of like-minded individuals who can offer guidance, encouragement, and camaraderie on your journey. There are some really well put-together Discord servers (and some other that are really "Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss" if I'm being honest)
Embrace Your Path: Remember that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to practice witchcraft. Your path is yours alone, and it's okay to experiment, make mistakes, and evolve along the way. Embrace the journey and trust in your own power and intuition. Just please respect closed practices if they are not yours.
Above all, be patient and kind with yourself as you navigate this new and exciting realm of magic. Your journey as a witch is a deeply personal and empowering one, and I have no doubt that you will find the guidance and wisdom you seek along the way. May your path be filled with magic and wonder! 🌟🔮

Witch things to add in your room, poor person edition
Fuck it Most of witchcraft people tell you to buy shit. So here's some stuff u can do for free
grab some sticks from the ground, bind them together in a shape you like, add intent (usually protection), hang it up
make a flower crown, add protection intent, dry it out, hang it up. protection spell and real ward. regularly recharge intent.
dry plants, set warding intent, hang them up.
crushed eggshells on your window sill to prevent bad energy.
wear a bandana or veil somewhere on your body, sometimes i use mine as belts, to protect from bad vibes.
paint your nails in the color meaning you want. mine are pink for self attraction rn
when you light up a candle always ask if theres a spirit or entity there, pyromancy skills can be learned through google, tumblr, and tiktok.
Regularly clean and rearrange your altar if you can't practice everyday, this keeos the space clean and shows entities around that even if ur not active, you're still a witch
A cup of water can be an offering to anyone, imagine being an entity and you can't have water at all for centuries??
If you have glasses, draw a sigil on them while you clean them (i usually wash mine with soap and water to make it extra clean ((and dry with paper towels)))
Give your wall art jobs. Sure they can be decorative, or they can be extra eyes to watch you while you sleep to make sure no one messes with you. (Ive had so much wall art fall in the middle of the night and turns out smth was trying to get in my room...)
If you have black-out/thick curtains, let the sun in!!! I keep them tied during the day so i can use natural light and ease up my electricity bill
Change ur bedsheets semi regularly, it doesn't need to be every week, but keep in mind bedbugs and other entities can get trapped there... or even try to get there to make your sleep unrestful.
If your room is a bio-hazard, at least make pathways so you can walk without injuring yourself.
Thats all i have for now <3 blessed be and fuck capitalism
