Elemental magic(k)

Elemental magic is the magic of the elements of nature: earth, air, fire, and water. Earth is feminine as Mother Earth, it is associated with the North and the symbol of the pentagram and pentacles in tarot. Earthy colours like browns and greens are best for Earth magic thus onyx and aventurine common gems for Earth rites. Salt is best used in Earth magic and it is best done in Winter. Earth magic is usually about luck and prosperity. Air is masculine it is associated with the East and the symbolism of wands(especially in tarot). Light but bright yellow is the best for Air magic. Citrine is the gem frequently used in Air magic and it is best done in Spring. Incense and smudge sticks are common ingredients as well. Air magic is about purification and healing. Fire is masculine it is associated with the South and the symbolism of daggers, blades and swords. Fire is represented by colours of red and gold like the flame itself. Fire magic is best done in Summer with cinnamon, res jaspers, tiger’s eye, rubies and bloodstone and candles. Fire magic is best used for love, passion, creativity, power and strength. Water magic is feminine it is associated with the West and the symbols of the glasses, and cups in tarot. Blues and greenish blues are associated with Water magic. Water is the main ingredient along side it aquamarines, opals and amethysts can be used with water lilies and aloe plants. Water magic is best done in Autumn. Water magic is often for purification, dreams, peace, and divination.

💫 How To: Cleanse 💫

Alright y’all I’m back again to tell you how to cleanse (spiritually speaking. physically: grab some lysol)

NOTE: I cannot cannot cannot cannot cannot cannot cannot cannot! handle the smell of smoke, it makes me gag and incense makes me bat shit crazy so most of the cleansing methods here will be NON smoke method. Ofc you can always use incense I just have a burning hatred for it (haha pun)

That being said- WHITE SAGE and PALO SANTO are CLOSED PRACTICE. SMUDGING is CLOSED PRACTICE. Literally everything else is available for you to use.

Without further ado- let’s get into cleansing!

Cleansing is used for a multitude of reasons, but primarily you cleanse items/spaces to get rid of any negative or stagnant energy associated with that item/space. I recommend cleansing your space somewhat often, this is also important when warding (warding post here). I also like to cleanse things like crystals or other tools I use in my practice to make sure any unwanted energy or vibe is interfering with my practice.

CLEANSING METHODS

You can always smoke cleanse but again I really don’t want to focus on smoke cleansing because there is already so much on the internet about it and I personally dislike smoke cleansing <3

Water

Water, or other liquids, can be used for cleansing both you and your space

Something as simple as bathing/or washing something with the intent to cleanse it of negative or unwanted energy is enough to cleanse it. I like to take baths on nights of the full moon with lots of funky bath ritual ingredients to make my baths really spiritually cleansing

You can also make a cleansing spray with herbs and oils intended to cleanse your space and spray it around your room! To really amplify the cleansing power, you could draw a sigil on the outside of the bottle! I recommend using charged water such as moon water or holy water if that’s applicable to your practice

Moon water itself has cleansing properties, and you can use it for just about anything! Be warned when cleansing crystals in moon water, there are some crystals that you CAN’T put in water- this can make them TOXIC! One of the biggest mistakes I’ve seen people make with crystals and water is putting selenite in water, selenite is VERY toxic when it comes in contact with water! Always look up if you can put your crystal in water before diving in

Crystals

On the topic of crystals, selenite is one of my favorite ways to cleanse!

I cleanse my crystals on a selenite plate, but there are also selenite bowls and other functional pieces that you can use to cleanse other crystals or items (such as a tarot deck!)

I think of selenite like a two in one, it will cleanse AND charge whatever you use with it! I have a selenite wand that I move throughout my room (clockwise) and that is probably my favorite way I cleanse my room, no smell, no mess, just super easy breezy

Sound

Sound cleansing is something you probably do but don’t even realize! Everything has a vibration, so you can utilize controlled vibrations and frequencies to cleanse your home!

Bells, drums, singing bowls, wind chimes, rainmakers, etc etc etc, are capable of removing unwanted energy from your space. You can even sound cleanse with music that uplifts you, and play it with intent! Witchcraft is completely about intent, so there is no reason that yellow by coldplay can’t remove negative energy in the same way a singing bowl can.

Meditation

I personally suck at meditation ( I am trying to get better ) but it still is a great way to cleanse your space!

When meditating, some people may visualize their space being cleansed, or if you struggle with visualizing, you can mediate with the intent to cleanse your space and your mind

Salt

You can cleanse just about anything with salt (NOTE SOME CRYSTALS ARE NOT OKAY TO PUT IN SALT)

Black salt, regular salt, sea salt, pink Himalayan salt, you name it! You can put a perimeter of salt around your house to protect from any unwanted energies, you can make a bowl of salt to place SALT SAFE crystals in, or you can use it another way! Be creative, there isn’t really any wrong way to cleanse

There are so many other ways to cleanse, these are just a few that I find are easy and beginner friendly! Cleansing is so important and something you need to have a good grasp on before you really dive into your craft. This is something you can do regardless of if you do spell work or not.

Remember to always make sure you are cross referencing information! I have obtained all information for this post from witches that are much more experienced than I am, but regardless make sure that you are fully researching everything you see on the internet!
