When you're just a pretend popstar, you control the press. duh.

I started making chaos collages in my insta stories last week while I was sick and feeling anti social. Now that I love making them, I will continue curating photo diary entries that I can post here weekly. It'll give me something fun to do this year. :)

2023 is off to a sick start. I got a cold for Christmas and was stuck in bed for almost a week consuming media and medicine. Keep yourself safe from small children and stay hydrated! The sickness is sweeping through almost everyone I know and its truly disgusting stuff.

Bad Bad Hats - It Hurts (10th Anniversary Edition)

as the title suggests, this album is a remaster of the 2013 ep It Hurts! on this play, Bad Bad Hats present both the new remasters of the original ep, as well as featuring demo versions of the tracks! it's a really nice indie rock album, with a heavy emphasis on acoustic sound which makes it feel really homey imo. i personally prefer the remasters to the demos GENERALLY, but i think there are particular standouts across both sets, including:

It Hurts (Remastered 2023)

being the title track of the album, you'd expect it to be great, and you're not gonna be disappointed! there's this great rhythm on what almost sounds like hooves? that crops up throughout the song and is just a little quirky! there's also a really fun vocal backing which almost sounds like kazoos at one point?? there's so much going on in this song and honestly i love it all!! it's just such a light-hearted and playful song!

9AM (Remastered 2023)

9AM is the track which is probably the ""most"" indie rock on the album. drum & guitars, which is a throughline for a lot of these songs, but there are more elements to the production here which just make it feel... bigger, almost? the lyrics act as a warning, telling you that the singer isn't the one for you, but that they can't help it. it's an interesting song, and probably the one i enjoyed the most on the album!

Super America (Demo)

probably the best of the demo tracks in my opinion, Super America (Demo) leans a lot into the acoustic-heavy aspect of this album as a whole. there's a specific guitar segment that gets repeated throughout the song as a hook which i really like. the lyrics are cute too! as expected for a song called Super America, there's something really American about them - i wish i could explain it better, but i just think it's endearing!

there's something super fascinating about hearing the remasters on this album before hearing the original demos - it's so cool to see how these songs developed over time! there isn't a song on this i didn't like, and if you're an indie rock fan i would highly recommend giving these songs a go!

Please..... please say something about fat characters that isn't "huggable" or something along those lines... listen, I love love those softer aspects of being fat- hell, I love giving hugs! ...but it really feels like such a dang neutral statement at this point. Like it feels like half the folks that say it are either afraid of saying anything positive about fat folks, or they've just had the idea that thats all we're good for nailed into their head for so long it feels like the dang default.

Just... call a fat character pretty, or cute, or handsome or beautiful or whatever else, I'm tired of huggable. ESPECIALLY cause while I'm a little more open to hugging folks I'm not as familiar with, Hattie's got a big ol' problem with physical contact when it comes to folks they don't know touching 'em or talking about touching their characters. Just... please, actually compliment a fat character rather than tip toeing around the idea that a fat person might actually be worthy of praise for once...
