TW: Self-harm, cyber bullying
On the surface, my boss seems like a really nice and benevolent person. But lately, there have been instances that make me think I'm actually working for a narcissist.
Last year, my coworker got hurt on the job and needed stitches. After that incident happened, I heard some really icky things spoken by my boss anytime my coworker asks for even something minor, "[Coworker] cost me more money than any other employee!" When it was rumored that co-worker might quit; "If [they] do that [they'll] have to return every cent I paid [them]!"
But whenever my boss is in hot water with their superiors, they will ghost everyone for a couple of days and then show up with some story as to why no one could get ahold of them. "I had a heart attack yesterday, but I'm here. I am working!" I believed them at first until they let slip that they say that every time their customers are getting furious with their lack luster customer service; "I just tell them that and they instantly change their tone with me every time because they don't want to appear unsympathetic."
But this last part gets really bad. I had another coworker who was being cyber bullied in the neighborhood Facebook groups. I was never aware of it because I'm not active on Facebook, and I especially avoid those toxic neighborhood groups. People were making posts in these groups specifically to shit talk this coworker. I later found out my boss and other coworkers were aware of it and chose to ignore it. The bullies even went so far as to send them DMs and make fake accounts to harass them. This coworker eventually attempted suicide and I never saw them again. But I recently heard my boss say, "I don't care! [Coworker #2] put ME at a disadvantage trying to off [themselves]! [They] were out of work 2 months, and it really cost me!"
What the fuck? Is that all you can think about is how it disadvantaged you?! You KNEW this shit was going on, since you're in those groups yourself and you chose to let them suffer in silence because it had no personal impact on you until they couldn't take it anymore and chose the nuclear option? But anytime someone calls you out on your bullshit you pull out your ass some lame excuse to explain it all away and earn yourself more brownie points.

Yesterday my boss told me I should think about looking for another job because this one clearly wasn’t working out. That my medical condition was slowing me down and that she couldn’t have that affecting her bottom line. That it was nothing personal. Just business. Anyway. Today I walked out and sent her this…

old boss said she would give me an adjusted schedule after I told her this was my last two weeks but instead she did not do that and for the last 3 days she just expected me to keep working 8 hour split shifts all weekend to hold her stupid business together like I've done for the past year and change even after she cut my pay and then drummed up fake reasons to fire me?! So it's monday and I was supposed to work another split shift but ooopsie I'm sick. :/ Gonna drink my coffee and write for a few hours instead. Got 90+ hours of sick leave saved up that I never had to use because I'm such a godsdamn model employee lol. Actually I'm their only employee who's vaccinated and wears a mask sometimes.

My abuser got fired today. It doesn't cure the PTSD, but I know the vindication is going to help with day to day.

You are quick to point out other people's mistakes and blame them for their errors. You like to be self righteous.
But you are blind to your own mistakes and even goes so far as to lie about them.
ugh!

Remembering that time I was an administrative assistant in an office with a manager who relied on and looked down upon admins daily.
Her name was Arlene.
She decided to fire someone. She did not give any of the admins advance notice. She fired them the day her admin (Mel) was out of the office.
Planned PTO to watch her son compete in his college tournament.
Mel was the only one who knew how to change the door codes.
Arlene comes to me. I explain that Mel’s the only one who can do it. Arlene says “well, it needs to be done TODAY.” *stares*
(My autistic ass *stares* back) (I already told you Mel’s the only one who can do it)
Long story short: I waved to Arlene and my boss on my way out the door, Arlene calls me back and asks if I’ve removed fired employee’s door code, I tell her no because Mel’s the only one who can do it, and then I leave. I was hourly and not approved for overtime.
An hour later, my phone starts ringing. Arlene has decided that the office cannot be unattended until the door code is removed. She leaves an aggressive voicemail informing me that she and the supervisors are stuck until I resolve the situation.
Supervisors also start leaving me voicemails.
Mel calls me, panicking. I think about the situation long and hard for a few minutes and then decide I’m turning off my phone and advise her to do the same.
OH I forgot to say this was a Friday.
**fast forward**
They figure out some workaround and then Arlene insists that we have redundancy for all tasks - something we had put in our training plan and she had removed. Cool.
She insists that only two people in the office be able to access and change alarm codes: herself, and me.
She teaches me.
She has a terrible memory and is incredibly incapable.
For two years, I’m the only person handling the alarm.
And then…they eliminated my position.
My (lovely) boss asked me to send an email with the details of who would be taking over each of my responsibilities before I signed off for the last time.
I made sure each and every admin was set up for success.
I emailed my boss. My closing line was “that’s everything except the alarm code. Arlene knows how to do that. Don’t forget to remove me as the first person who gets a phone call when the alarm is triggered.”

Looking for work as an autistic person fucking sucks. My current bosses hate the accommodations I need and use them to make me feel bad; I work remote but they demand I come into the office (a 7 hour drive for me) for a week at a time cause it’s “easier.”
The only real work experience I have is in bartending/serving and I hate the thought of going back to that after working from home but it’s my only choice at this point. I can’t keep working for who I’m working for so I’m just going to have to mask and get overstimulated instead.

It’s doubtful that anybody here could afford a Tesla. But we can discourage others from thinking of getting one.
It’s too early to know yet if Musk’s recent behavior will impact Tesla sales, but the latest Kelly Blue Book Brand Watch survey had a worrisome sign: Shopper interest in Tesla dropped markedly in the third quarter. That, of course, predates the most recent Twitter craziness and there are plausible explanations that don’t involve Musk, but it’s a reminder that feelings about consumer brands can shift suddenly and drastically.
Investors certainly seem to be nervous. Tesla’s stock has stumbled all year and hit the skids again after Musk’s Twitter deal was consummated, losing more than half of its value between Jan. 1 and Nov. 18.
[ ... ]
But if you’re not in a mad rush, you have alternatives. I’m glad my EV isn’t a Tesla, and if I were shopping now, I wouldn’t dream of helping to subsidize Musk’s growing sociopathy. Remember: Friends don’t let friends buy a Tesla.
It’s not Trumpists who buy Teslas. Elon Musk, sadly, is being subsidized by upscale people on the moderate to progressive side of the political spectrum. They need to look for EVs elsewhere. Not every car manufacturer panders to Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Green and treats employees like shit.

Well, that’s one way to end an 11.5-year career at Darden.
“Our call offs are occurring at a staggering rate.”
I bet that wouldn’t be the case if you paid your employees well, treated them well, or—get this—both.
“From now on, if you call off, you might as well go out and look for another job. We are no longer tolerating ANY excuse for calling off.”
Olive Garden: Now seeking mindless drones with zero chance for illness, familial emergencies, or extraneous circumstances. Must have no other responsibilities outside of working for Olive Garden, whatsoever.
“Do you know in my 11.5 years at Darden how many days I called off? Zero. I came in sick.”
Bitch, you work in a RESTAURANT. That’s admission of major health code violations, right there.
“I got in a wreck literally on my to work one time, airbags went off and my car was totaled, but you know what, I made it to work, ON TIME!”
This is not the brag that you think it is. It’s really sad.
“If you don't want to work here, don't. It's as simple as that.”
Sure, capitalism has always made it so easy—that people passionately want to work every grueling job out there, where customers treat you like dirt, not that they need it to support themselves.
“You're in the restaurant business. Do you think I want to be here until midnight on Friday and Saturday? No. I'd much rather be at home with my husband and dog, going to the movies or seeing family. But I don't, I'm dedicated to being here. As should you.”
Really? Because not even you are making a good case for this here. You just switched from insisting people want to be there and want to work—because it is an honor and a privilege—to admitting outright that you don’t want to be there either, but you’ve committed 11.5 years to sacrificing your family to be dedicated to this job (you know, the one that just fired you instantly for sending out this mass email, because you’re a replaceable commodity… was it worth it?).
If you need to implement stricter policies and penalize or fire employees who are consistently calling out, then do it—but skip putting a toddler temper tantrum in writing (because it’s not anywhere close to communicating what you think it is), and when you’re still consistently turning over employees after you crack down, try some introspection as to why that might be.
Then, actually try to solve it, with some empathy, instead of simply blaming hundreds or thousands of people who must just be “lazy.” Because, sure—that MUST be it. Couldn’t possibly find any other commonalities amongst that many people who are dissatisfied enough to risk being fired rather than come work for you.

Wisdom from a 50 year old (Me) - Coworkers are not your friend
Normally on Wednesdays, I do an anxiety piece but today I am going to give you some wisdom and a short story to back it up. The wisdom? You’re Co-Workers are not your friends. Now you probably knew that but it’s a broad statement that encompasses everything. You see any piece of information you give to a coworker can be told to someone else and potentially used against you. Now maybe you know…
