Book Depository can go screw itself

I have just cancelled all my SevenSeas pre-orders through Book Depository.

I have used BD for years, and they've provided good service on the whole. But I got fed up after three pre-orders were cancelled by them.

In each case, I ordered months and months in advance, eagerly anticipating the release of each book. The book's publishing date came - and sure enough, it was listed for sale on the website, but my pre-order was listed as "awaiting publication".

When I asked why the title was listed for sale where my pre-order hadn't been honoured, I was given a bullshitty politician's non-answer.

It smacks to me of dishonesty. I mean, if I pre-order something, I am paying in good faith for something to eventually come to me. By placing a pre-order I am a) handing over money to BD's account where it accrues interest and b) gives them an idea of how many volumes they need to get order the publisher for distribution. For the privilege of this, they charge a greatly reduced sum; the cost of the book when it is listed for sale on the publishing date is often a lot more expensive.

So actually, this whole business of not honouring pre-orders also seems to be a price and money-gouging exercise. I suspect they deliberately don't fill pre-orders in order to force those who have pre-ordered to order the full-priced item.

I'm so disgusted.

Seeking other distributors who will send to my location. (Which also sucks, because it's not mainland USA and is often $$$ to send to.)

WARNING: Don't pre-order your SevenSeas danmei novels through Book Depository. Just don't. Find another distributor.

getting a good reminder of one of the reasons i stopped playing

for some unknown reason - or at least as of yet undiscovered reason - sometimes when running cyberpunk (and only cyberpunk) the fans kick into fucking overdrive, and the screen turns into a damned slideshow.

And laptop ends up feeling cold to the touch because it wasn't struggling, so the fans running at max for a long time weren't needed. And it literally doesn't matter if i lower game quality to potat. IT still does this.

Only on cyberpunk. I can run any other game on fucking ultra. But cyberpunk it does this to.

well. considering ny first relationship was online, and i dated long distance once more after that, i feel like its dangerous but not something that shouldn't be done

like, make sure you know that person is who they say they are, like my first relationship we were facetiming all the time and constantly sent pictures. if you pkan on meeting up, take someone with you and encourage them to do the same, if they don't like that idea or want to meet alone, red flag. but fr as long as you aren't like dating some random Roblox person you met once in a game i don't really care what you do with your life, just be sensible, smart, and safe.

was at melaka for a few days for a short vacation, it’s been so long since my last visit, maybe 3 years or so... so for the first night, wanted to get dinner near jonker walk and visit the night market after. this wasn’t the initial restaurant we wanted to go, but the other one was packed, and we just found this place by chance.

ordered fish with coconut milk and pineapple, peranakan chicken curry, nyonya mixed vegetables to share, with grass jelly drink and butterfly pea flower rice. the dishes was served quite quickly even though the restaurant is pretty packed too. food presentation wise, all the dishes looks pretty appetizing.

the fish dish has an appetizing sauce, it is slightly sweet, slightly fruity and flavorful, goes well with rice. fish itself was too soft though, felt like it was cooked too long. curry chicken was bad though, as it was served to us cold, and after that they microwaved the dish, hence the chicken became really really dry, was quite disappointed. mixed vegetables was okay, the best among the three dishes in my opinion.

the meal was pretty pricey, given such food quality, we don’t feel that it was worth it at all. the price is comparable to restaurants in kl, could be even more expensive actually, so this is definitely a touristy restaurant. it seems that this place have opened for a long time, hence i’m not sure why the food quality is bad, i definitely expected more. i wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone as there’s definitely better options in the area.

I think one of the biggest tragedies of Laios & Falin and their relationship is how much his actions impact her life. But like. Specifically how much they WOULDN’T impact her life as much if they weren’t both stuck in such a shitty abusive situation.

This part of the Falin-tries-makeup daydream hour comic is what got me thinking about it again because truly it just... it seems like such a like an offhand comment that I'm sure Laios didn't mean to be cruel or anything. That's just like. A little kid not thinking about what they are saying. ESPECIALLY when the kid in question is Laios.

But man they depended on each other SO much as kids. Too much. It really feels like they didn't have any other source of positive reinforcement, or anyone else to share themselves with. So of course an offhand comment like that has a huge impact on Falin.

Or this little bit from one of the flashbacks:

This tears me apart. Do you think it tears him apart to think about? I think it does. I think Laios holds every small failure to care for Falin against himself.

And then there's the Bigger stuff. The way that him coping with his own trauma ended up impacting her.

Like his interest in monsters. Like him going to find a ghost, and accidentally revealing Falin's magic to the whole village in the process.

Like him needing to leave. And leaving her behind.

He shaped her life so much, and he carries so much guilt for it. And again, there should have been other people there to help. The same things that made Laios need to leave home are the things that made his leaving so hard on Falin. She ate alone after that. She shouldn't have had to eat alone just because Laios wasn't there.

She was 9 when he left for school, and he was 11.

Nine. And Laios feels like he failed her because he didn't stand by her through this better. As an eleven year old.

Both of these kids deserved so much better from the world.

i cannot stress this enough: if your reasoning for clowning on the mcu is "they overwork their cg artists and animators" i 1000% guarantee that a show or movie you have been stanning for years also abused their artists and you just haven't heard about it because the production companies aren't in the spotlight like mcu productions are. that cartoon for kids? that incredibly animated movie? that non-marvel superhero movie? i've seen people declare their hatred for the way the mcu treats their workers and then turn around and gush about a show that i know for a fact was hell for the artists attached

Vampire Misunderstanding

So! Danny got adopted by Bruce Wayne, but he doesn't know that Bruce is the Batman. He is just supernaturally oblivious to all things Batman related going on in the House.

But he does notice that Bruce leaves home a lot at night, that he doesn't like to go out in the day and often has his parties at night, and once or twice he's caught Bruce with a bit if blood still splattered on his cheek.

So he comes to the only plausible conclusion. Bruce is a Vampire.

He starts trying to hint at the fact that he knows, but doesn't want to just go out and say it. What if Bruce reacts negatively to him knowing? He's dealt with enough Supernatural Beings to know that they don't like other people (and especially other supernatural beings) intruding on their lives.

So Danny decided to subtly hint at it.

He started asking questions like "So hypothetically, how would you deal with having a Garlic Allergy in Gotham?" Or "So if you had very sensitive skin that could sunburn extremely easily, how much cloud cover would you need to go outside?" And "So what's your opinion on a High-Iron Diet?"

Basically just tossing out questions and trying to Guage Bruce's reaction.

He thinks he's doing a good job!

...

Bruce is certain that he has adopted a Vampire.

Danny is a good kid, but he has a few oddities that are hard to ignore.

For one, his skin is constantly Ice Cold, but he never seens to be bothered by it. As if he was an Undead that didn't require Body Heat anymore.

He also seems to like Hanging out in the Graveyard outside, and when asked about it he says that he is comforted by the place. Just like the Vampires he has met in the past, who feel comfortable when surrounded by Death.

And of course the biggest reason for suspicion is the fact that Danny seems to be hinting at it to him.

He keeps asking stuff like "How would you deal with a Garlic Allergy in Gotham?", probably trying to hint that he is a Vampire who can't eat Garlic, or asking about easy to sunburn skin, saying that he is probably not a Daywalker.

Bruce hopes Danny will just come clean about it soon, he doesn't want to intrude upon the kid when he is so obviously nervous about how he will react.

I posted a review of “Oppenheimer” on an IMAX screen early. Now I want to comment about the IMAX theater specifically at the Regal Hacienda Crossing venue.

THE GOOD

The image looked looked terrific on the giant screen and the sound pretty good too.

THE BAD

1. The screening started 20 minutes late. When it did, no trailers. I’m guessing someone forgot to play the trailers.

2. Once it started, after about 20 minutes the screen went dark but the sound continued. The full audience sat in the dark.

3. After about 5 minutes the screen returned. There was no explanation and no apology from the staff.

4. Remember, Regal charges a premium for IMAX screens. I paid $20.

If this was a one time experience I might forget about it, but I’ve gone to see movies at the Regal Hacienda Theater in Dublin, California, in the past. They’ve had a series of mistake at IMAX screenings I’ve attended from starting late, problems with sound, problems with movies starting on time and twice, when the started the wrong movie (the first time they continued with the wrong movie but gave out voucher to see the correct movie another time; the second time the correct movie started after about 30 minutes).

This bad experience means I won’t be attending IMAX screening at Regal Hacienda again.

BTW, when looking for an image to use above, I can across an old post where someone shared their bad experience with Regal IMAX. She suggested that “get your act together”.

[Monster High] so since pink lagoona is a hot topic in the fandom, i though it'd be a fun challenge to try and make some pink lagoonas myself. there's actually a lot of material to work with imo!

these are all essentially looks for a recolored g1 lagoona, only the last one being intended for her g3 personality. i wanted to make more for g3, but didn't quite like them in execution, so maybe another time..

tropical treasure: beautiful, glamorous, colorful, but a bit more of an aquarium decoration than a strange beast. loosely inspired by bettas

ghost ship cruise: etherial haunty lagoona, inspired by jellyfish. light, translucent and probably cold to the touch

coy classic: elegant mermaid pond lagoona, inspired by koi fish. this one is kind of an amalgamation of her g1 dolls that exists in my head tbh

little axolotl: cute and quirky, like the new lagoona. inspired by axolotls and sea slugs :)
