For those who are waiting an update for ‘All the paths that lead to your heart’, I’m super sorry but it won’t happen until the end of the week. I’m super busy with exams and few other personal stuff so i didn’t have time to finish the next chapter. I’m sorry 🥺 but updates are probably not gonna be once a week anymore.

So the bagginshield fic tropes I’m in love with so far (bless all you wonderful authors) are;

  1. Hair & braiding being culturally significant
  2. Braid beads as a gift being culturally significant
  3. Cultural differences between dwarves and hobbits
  4. Bonus points if they’re too stupid to actually discuss said differences so they wander about with a symbol of some kind that they have no idea the meaning of
  5. Family groups of dwarves sleeping in groups / piles to keep warm
  6. Thorin sharing his coat to keep Bilbo warm
  7. All of the khuzdul pet names. All of them.
  8. Everyone else being absolutely done with how oblivious the pair of them are
  9. Bonus if the company end up scheming to get them together already
  10. Dwarves all being hopeless romantics at heart

Chapter 26: Recovery and Rebuilding

Dragons had always been a problem for those who lived in Middle-Earth. No matter where you lived or who you were, you most likely had a dragon story or two to tell.

Bilbo Baggins had more than enough for his lifetime, thank you very much.

He’d lost his father to dragons while adventuring outside the Shire and later became a parent to his orphaned nephew after a dragon attack. With the sudden appearance of dragons just north of the Shire, dwarves have been called to help protect them. One dwarf in particular takes an interest in Bilbo and young Frodo - and maybe now Bilbo has at least one thing to thank the dragons for.

“Thorin…” Bilbo muttered weakly. He hated to wake him but he had to know what had happened since the orcs retreated. “Thorin,” Bilbo repeated, finding his voice again, speaking a little louder this time. Thorin stirred and jolted awake when he saw Bilbo was conscious again.

Thereafter, it is difficult to not notice the way that he carries himself around Bilbo. It is an uncertain thing, whether Thorin acts subconsciously, or if he is drawn to Bilbo the way that a dragon is drawn to gold.

The thoughts trouble him.

A series of vignettes concerning Thorin and touch and Bilbo.

A fic I started ages ago and decided to finish, because Quarantine be like That.

Chapter 18

On the North side of the Long Lake sat a tiny used-to-be tourist town named Erebor. The town was once a popular vacation spot with its many tourist attractions, chiefly, the myth about Smaug: the lake-dwelling sea monster that was rumored to live in the large lake. Now in the 21st Century, Erebor is struggling to survive with only a handful of people passing through during peak season. Management of Tourism for Erebor now lands in the lap of Thorin Durinson who’s inherited the business from his family.

Along with Bilbo Baggins, mythological fanatic and bookkeeper for Erebor’s current financial situation, Thorin’s determined to do something to drive people back to Erebor and the shores of the Long Lake. However, they quickly realize they may be in way over their head.

Not wanting to wake Bilbo with his tossing and turning, he carefully pulled himself out of bed, hoping the extra activity would quiet his mind. Bilbo mumbled something unintelligible in his sleep, and Thorin smiled down at him feeling a bubble of affection rise in his chest.

It would all be okay. He loved Bilbo. He knew it would be okay because he loved Bilbo.

Does anyone know the name of the fic that has either bilbo or thorin convinced the other was dead despite like, living together or something??? Where they thought they were just being haunted by the ghost and never acknowledged it????

Wheres the link to the fic? Not reading it yet but I sure will be!

I hope you don’t mind if I post this in case anyone else was wondering;

It’s Dear Creature of the Homely West, it’s very angsty and I know not everyone is super into that, but it’s got a heavy hand in dwarvish politics and courting rituals and all that fun stuff; I have a really big chapter I’m dealing with rn for chapter 18 that I want to have posted this weekend (fingers crossed!)

Thank you for asking!

Chapter 25: Battle

Thorin never in a million years imagined he would be defending the dragon that destroyed his kingdom, but now he was defending the dragon in hopes of saving his kingdom.

It was late when Bilbo finally found the strength to venture downstairs by himself. He could hear the snores of sleeping dwarves all throughout the house and assumed they would all be asleep. He really should have known better.

Thorin was sitting by the dwindling fire, staring into its depths and didn’t seem to notice when Bilbo entered the room. Bilbo hesitated for a moment before he continued on into the kitchen. He found a dented kettle on the stove which he filled with water and left to boil. He then searched for the tea he knew was stashed in here somewhere and was grateful to find it in one of the lower cupboards. He took his time organising two mugs and when the kettle finally boiled he poured the water out carefully. All the while he listened out to see if Thorin had moved but the only noise he could hear was the quiet pop of the fire.

Once the tea was done he carried the two mugs out to the sitting room to find that Thorin hadn’t moved an inch. He bit back a sigh and instead made his way over to the dwarf-king who startled when Bilbo sat beside him.

Summary:

She had never been to Esgaroth, but when Thorin said they had room in the car, she couldn’t have possibly said no.

So back in June I asked @aquilea-of-the-lonely-mountain for a prompt for her Bagginshield Summer Adventure event… I got ‘summer festival’, and self-indulgently decided to write a sequel to Well Met on a Rainy Day, and it got long and rambling and it’s October now… *sweats nervously*

Anyway, have a fluffy and silly fem!bagginshield story with some unexpected backstory and too much worldbuilding (I had entirely too much fun with it!) I have the whole thing written out, and will post chapters as soon as I’m done nitpicking them.
