Why Is Yellow the Middle of the Rainbow? (Kidlat Tahimik, 1994)

Filmed diary spanning 1980-94. Covers him touring Perfumed Nightmare around the world, action in Phillipines following the airport assassination of Cory Aquino’s husband, the 1986 election and the ESDA revolution, a village building a bridge over a ravine the government flooded but wouldn’t supply their own bridge for, his son’s own student elections, birthday parties, graduations, blackouts, typhoons, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. In and around these sit ruminations on film, the third world (as concept and state of being), indigeneity, occupation, Lemuria, and Magellan’s slave. Fiction and agit-prop mini movies interspersed throughout. It’s a Kidlat Tahimik movie, basically. As great as always.
