The funniest way to play the entire Baldur's Gate trilogy, imo, is to play a cleric of Lathander for the originals and then play another cleric of Lathander as the Dark Urge.
Lathander, the boisterous and optimistic god of sunshine and renewal cheers on his little murder-spawn as they strive to do better and be reborn free of their father, while Bhaal screams at the Morninglord in the background to stop ruining his tools kids!
For bonus points, you can then piss off both gods by having both Charname and Durge romance vampires. I can only assume that at this point Lathander stops answering their calls, and the cleric spells are now coming from Cyric, wearing a blonde wig.

Oh my god I was looking at the Forgotten Realms universe timeline and realized that because Astarion is over 200 years old, he's old enough to have experienced Bhaal, Myrkul, and Bane's ascension into godhood and the two previous Baldurs Gate games, along with the Spellplague when Shar tried to get a god of murder to kill Mystra.
Then a hundred years pass and bam, Second Sundering. With how the game talks about the Second Sundering and the restoration of all the gods that had died or conglomerated together, it makes you feel like it was awhile ago-- but it was only twelve years previous!
