Hey guys
Theoretically, if Merlin finds out that Kilgharrah lost Aithusa, how would he punish him?

BBC Merlin Prompt:
ok; so we know next to nothing about Dragonlords in canon, because there's literally 2 of them in canon, Balinor and Merlin, so the whole inheritance thing isn't really fleshed out. Can only sons inherit. if a Dragonlord has multiple children does only the oldest inherit. I only the oldest inherits do the others have Magic and so on. For this idea I took the option of all the children have varying degrees of Magic, but only the oldest would inherit the actual commanding a Dragon.
Anyway back to the actual idea:
VERSION 1#
Balinor wasn't an only child. He had a younger brother. A younger brother who by the time of the Purge was already married and had a son. He like all the other folks gets arrested and burned at the stake. His wife then immediately remarries to protect her son from being drowned and is like "my child, son of a sorcerer? oh no sir" and lies about having stepped out on her husband. So at the end not even her son knows who his real father is.
This child also doesn't know he has magic, because like Morgana he repressed it. Being marginally less powerful than either Merlin or Morgana he never notices. He joins the knights and one day he unknowingly meets his younger cousin. No one sees the resemlancy, because unlike the rest of his family he inhereted his mothers blond hair.
Now you may be wondering who this son is. It's Leon. And one day After s2e13 The Last Dragonlord, but Balinor survived and is hiding at his families old Keep. So anyway Leons mom meets Merlin and is like "Balinor?" cause Merlin looks a lot like Balinor did as a teenager. And that's how Leon learns he has magic and a stupidly powerful cousin. And later meets his grumpy uncle and together they might manage to teach Merlin some swordfighting.
and at some point there's the typical magic/dragonlord reveal.
VERSION 2#
In my second version the younger brother survives the Purge and flees to Cearleon where he changes his name etc. and joins the knights there maybe falls in love again and has a second son. He later dies in the Kings service. Leaving his second wife and son penniless.
Because of magic and destiny and what not. The second son also meets Merlin later in his life. He like Leon is part of the Knights of the Round Table. And Leon is like wtf THAT'S?! my little brother?
So now Balinor has his cryptid, magic god son, his noble knight nephew and his not so noble tavern-loving nephew, aka Gwaine.
if anyone wants to write this feel free.

Merlin AU where magic user’s eyes glow different colours based on what type of spell/magic they’re using, the emotion behind it and/or their own power level.
So when Merlin says to Arthur “I have magic.. I only used it for you.” Arthur believes him because Morgana’s eyes never lit up gold, nor did any of the other magic users/creatures they came across (save for the unicorn if you wanna go with the whole ‘Merlin is pure magic’ comparison)
Gaius is surprised that Merlin’s eyes light golden; he’s only ever seen green/blues (for healing/happy/calm) red/purples (for dark/anger/fear) and white(most magical creatures) he brushes it off as maybe him being Balinor’s son combined with Merlin’s instinct at saving people, after all Dragon/Dragonlord Magic™️ is so vastly different from anything he’s seen and he doesn’t really have much time to focus on that when Merlin’s just stopped time in front of him; twice.

Since I very sincerely doubt Uther managed to kill ALL the Dragonlords (they're knights, not the KGB, and it was a lot easier to disappear back then) imagine them returning to Albion from Rome or whatever to find Cousin Balinor's only son is ruling Camelot and the Druids, is best friends with an immortal knight and one dude that's been raised from the fucking dead, is bonded to THEE oldest dragon they've ever heard of (and who is also nuttier than squirrel stew) and a semi-feral hatchling that barely listens to four (4) people max and hisses/bites/claws at the rest, and oh yeah, is married to a fucking Pendragon.
Tumblr media
Family dinners must be a hoot and a half.
oh to be a fly on the wall when they finally make an audience in Camelot. oh to see Merlin's face morph from apprehension to wonder to exhaustion to horror because they're telling Arthur everything they know.
#obviously these guys arrive post battle of camlann and post magic ban being lifted#they heard about the new king of camelot being the once and future king wanted to see that for themselves (they have so many questions)#they create a dragonlord support group for merlin#honestly my question is when exactly did the dragonlord population start dimishing#sure okay we can say during the Purge and Uther isn't one for mercy so he would totally go on a warpath...but they're dragonlords and yet#they lost to a mad king who only had knights on his side.#theory: dragonlord population was dwindling long before the Purge#other kingdoms in Abion were growing suspicious and wary of dragolords and their ability to “control” dragons#many kings felt threatened by it and sought to exterminate them#paranoia for magic prob been around long before the Purge (twas only the catalyst for a century long tension bt royals and sorcerers)#think WW1 kind of tension between kings and dragonlords: kingdoms were beginning to stabilize/unify; territories were drawn out#oh bro i am now actually very interested in exploring the events leading up to the Purge#my theory: Ambrosious the king said to “unite” Albion that first time had issues with gaining fealty from dragonlords#dragonlords saw themselves as neutral ambassadors but Ambrosious saw them as threats; they reached some treaty but the animosity stayed#every line of succession you have a king seeking to get dragonlords under their rule and dragonlords refusing#then maybe a king or so before Uther less heirs for dragonlords occur; less eggs hatch or are allowed to hatch (kings find them and keep#the prized eggs in their vaults full of treasure blatantly ignoring the very sacred and important dragonlord customs)#but then the Purge comes and now many dragonlords are hunted down and killed and many leave to never return#so yeah maybe Balinor was the last dragonlord on Albion by s2 finale but not because they all died but bc he was the last one who stayed#and lived since everyone else now reside elsewhere in the world refusing to rebuild the bridge the kings had burned#bbc merlin#dragonlords#headcanons#asks

This was supposed to be a short drabble about baby Merlin using magic. Somehow, this turned into a 3-shot with Balinor + Hunith's love story, Hunith struggling to be a single parent, and her watching Merlin grow. Warning: angst galore, soft parent-child love, some fluff, and a hopeful and happy ending which somehow makes you cry.

Knowledge is power.
It was a fact that Uther knew to be true above all else, one that had created the foundations of his purge. The simple act of knowing put you at an advantage above all those who were unfortunate enough to be uninformed. Ignorance was as deadly as an unseen blade to the throat. Wise men like Uther knew that no matter the form it took - whether it be that of penniless rumours or divine prophecy - knowledge was the key to power, and the true meaning of power was to control who knew what - to allow certain truths to be spoken during the light of day and others to be snuffed out before they could even begin to kindle.
Some truths had to be bent, moulded and shaped to ensure the greater good, while others had to be erased. All it took was a whisper to shake the foundations of a kingdom and rake a dagger through the heart of its king. Some things were better off forgotten, other things had to be; twisted paths that led to places of old, intimacies scrawled upon crumpled parchment, tales and histories bound by leather. Sacrifices had to be made.
But there's one crucial thing that knowledge cannot provide, a cruel certainty that Uther had come to accept; knowledge does not grant safety, not even to friends.

(Merlin BBC) ok but imagine every dragon that gets hatched by a dragonlord, the dragon gets the dragonlords eyes. so aithusa has the same eyes as merlin and every dragon balinor hatched got his eyes and so on
(i’m not sure if he actually hatched any but just imagine alr)

the last dragonlord 2x13
(my last uther pendragon hate post of the night i promise)

arthur: have you no conscience?
balinor: you should ask that question of your father.
this scene is criminally underrated. side note: the lengths i went to obtain this gif set were immense lmao. but alas, the balinor episode is genuinely heartbreaking (and once again, repeat it with me, FUCK UTHER!!). arthur babes, i love you, but you need to shut up and stop accusing this man. your dad literally killed all his friends, his kin, and forced him to live a life of solitude away from his lover and son (who is sitting right beside you rn 👀). i won't discuss the rest of this episode because it makes me uncontrollably sob ✌️
