your tags on my ea gale clip sum up really well something i've been thinking about for a while now! even on full release, it seems to me like a big part of the hate gale gets stems from people's insecurity; he kind of disrupts this power fantasy some people seem to desire where they have to be the most cool and capable person on the team. gale is more knowledgeable than the player about certain magic-related things, was very powerful before being tadpoled, has a close association with a goddess, etc. and he isn't exactly humble or shy about boasting about his magic skills. so then a lot of people instantly get defensive over their own character's capabilities and dislike him because of that. that's what i think, anyway.

it's strange to see just how much larian has toned down this aspect of gale from early access to full release to the point of changing his introduction scene entirely from being extremely capable and saving himself to being a damsel in distress (with the added bonus of adding in even more options to kill him than there were in early access, which is yet another can of worms entirely imo, esp considering that they removed a perfectly valid rp option for a certain companion on a certain beach).

i'm not saying i don't like the new introduction scene. i do! it's sweet, it's very cute, but it's also very, very different and i think we can make a fair assumption as to why it was changed.

it doesn't seem to have helped much tho because even now people have an issue with the fact that a wizard prodigy, graduate of blackstaff academy, mentee of elminster, archwizard of waterdeep and (ex) chosen of mystra knows more about magic and other related academic pursuits than they do/their player character does.

be it asking them if they're versed in magic, which is still clearly done to suss out if he found someone capable of dealing with the orb, or the amount of times i've seen people either peacock or complain about the cleansing of the ritual circle in balthazar's room.

again, it's just so weird to me, personally, considering gale makes it clear that dealing with such dark magic was his bread and butter as a chosen. it's natural he would see himself as most qualified to ensure it's safely rendered inert.

it's not bratty, it's not arrogant, it's not bullying, it's not talking down to you or your character.

it's simply a fact.

She had been hired as a personal trainer, a cover for her Hunter job, and the very attractive father had done well their last couple sessions. He was certainly in decent shape and his spirits had been picking up over the past couple weeks.

Heya!!!! This blog is actually mostly an rp blog, but I write (or have, in the past) TONS of meta so I can see why it would seem like a meta blog! 😂 You're welcome to go to my IC tag and look at my characterization, but there are also several other resources.

I haven't read fanfic in years, which is such a bizarre thing about me, honestly, because I used to write it a lot, and I have massive respect for fanfic writers. I think it's just a matter of me not having the time to devote to pleasure-reading, and becoming frustrated when I try. However, I can recommend other rp blogs whom I've always admired:

-- @loptgangandi (Eloki is golden standard for all things Norse culture + IC MCU Loki + Myths Loki, and is a Lokean by religious practice <3 ) -- @theprisonerofasgard (why isn't it tagging you aaarg. A longtime dear friend whose MCU Loki is perfection. I'm pretty sure B (don't want to use their full real name) is also a fanfic writer, and I'd recommend looking at their stuff on Ao3). -- @divinethief (actually writes Balthazar from SPN but is also a Lokean and has a profound relationship with Loki that makes them excellent at feedback on portrayal. I have a romantic verse with their muse and have written with them for years in other fandoms. Beautiful loving human being.)

For Loki fanfics, I'd ask my friend @lokiperfection and the prolific Loki graphics artist @lokihiddleston . They're hugely active fandom moms <3

Hey friends! I'm planning to host a chill open roleplaying event. If you're looking for a chance for some casual RP, or you're new to RP and want to give it a try, feel free to come along. All are welcome!

Rules and Guidelines

If you are new to roleplaying in Guild Wars 2, here is a helpful starting guide about RP ettique by ascalonianpicnic.

This event will be PG-13 (12A). General warnings for alcohol consumption and profanity, but nothing too explicit please!

Non-alcoholic drinks are included in the sale offers.

Be mindful and respectful of others. Don't be afraid to check with people about their boundaries out of character!

No violence! This is not the place for bar brawls. Any fighting or destruction of property will lead to you being thrown out.

Any rulebreaking or unacceptable behaviour will result in you being thrown out of the event. Let's make this a fun and comfortable experience for everyone.

For some reason I really want to give modern Balthazar a really nerdy hobby. One I can relate to, but don't get to do often.

Like, Gunpla building. Something that requires steady hands, patience, and attention to detail. Even more so with the higher grades and if you do decals or custom work, like custom damaged models.

But should I? Would it be cute or nice to see he has that hobby, or would it deter from Modern Balthazar?

My favorite fanfic author of all time (I'm considering getting into fanfic binding just so I can have personal copies of their fics) is all_the_kings_ham!!!! Fugitive Motel series is two one shots about wincest and regrets; Rain In The Valley is an au fic where Lucifer isn't the devil, just a caretaker of a church in a small town, where a young Sam shows up as temptation on his porch, then a time skip (this made me bawl my eyes out when the final chapter came out); That's where you're wrong is about a runaway Sam coming across not-devil Lucifer, who brings him to Bobby but not after making questionable decisions on the way there (with a follow-up that hasn't been completed but has them meeting again in the future); You've Got To Pay For What You Break is a normal person au, where Lucifer comes from a rich family and makes a bad bet that leads to him taking Sam to a charity gala as his date and falling in love; If Not For You is a not supernatural bakery au with Balthazar as an asshole (🥰); Come In, Stranger has Hunter Sam climbing into the passenger seat of a human, doctor Lucifer and holding him at gunpoint, Lucifer taking him to his house to take care of his wounds and take care of him for a few days, and running into him a few more times; and finally.... One of my favorite stories of all time, that introduced me to the song of the same name, The boy who blocked his own shot. Fake dating au, non supernatural, Lucifer is a tattoo artist and Sam is a college student, and it's just.... There's a second story with Lucifer's pov, and I don't know how to describe how much I love it.

I don't read a lot these days, or since 2018, which is why these are generally lighter stories than my current tastes, but they are novels in my heart. The characterization is AMAZING too, they inspired how I write Lucifer

I was raised listening to Fall Out Boy, I don't have a gallbladder, I practice witchcraft, my favorite food is lasagna, I have a dog (blue heeler mixed with smthn else), and two sisters I love more than anything :)

I mean.... My DREAM dream is always Lucifer becoming human. I swear I'm gonna figure out a way to write this one day, but if I didn't write it I'd want the above fic author to write it instead. Or anyone who can do Lucifer justice. I call it 'About Falling' in my head, and Lucifer turns up on Earth in Nick's empty vessel. He's found by Castiel (after getting mugged ? Or smthn) and reluctantly taken in. Castiel might not remember their time together in Heaven, before all the brainwashing and the Fall, but Lucifer does. They bond again and Castiel finds out more about their shared past, and yes they fall in love, this fragile former archangel and the only angel who's ever truly understood him. I just need to know what the PLOT plot is, yanno........ And yes, this is somewhat based off an old rp I did as Lucifer with a Castiel (I miss Leo every day 🥺)

11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?

Well, not by letting other people know he's having trouble following along, that's for sure... Balthazar generally nods along in the moment and tries to pick up what's happening from context and cautious probing of the situation. A "remind me" approach instead of a "tell me" one. He hates to let on that he doesn't know something, even with friends or advisors. It shows a disadvantage in a situation. When he has the ability, he tries to get his bearings on a situation by looking into it alone.

With particularly trusted confidantes or in situations where he already knows that whoever he's with knows he's clueless, he's willing to be more direct and ask for clarification on things he doesn't understand. He just hates to do it when it comes at the price of his pride or showing his hand.

21. Why do they get up in the morning? 

Balthazar gets up in the morning because he's too stubborn not to. That's always been it, I think. Forward momentum that refuses to break. He has things to do and he doesn't want his life to be something that just gets swept up in the direction of whoever or whatever happens to be around. Even when he doesn't have much direction, he's always felt like he's needed to be at the helm trying to steer things somehow.

So he gets up (late, usually) and coordinates the day's outfit and does his hair and checks his schedule and has coffee and faces the day with the feeling that he can make it whatever he needs it to be.

J. Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?

Hm. Honestly? Not really. Like a lot of my CRPG characters I get really into, Balthazar was originally from older stuff of mine- he was an old TTRPG character who had been both an NPC and a PC, and the Kingmaker iteration was specifically based on the version of the character that was developed in the wake of a 2019 5e oneshot a friend ran. He was coming to the game with plenty of fixed aspects of character and past, but Kingmaker's got such an open ended premise for a character that I didn't actually have to change anything. And the game was great to RP a charismatic "talk first, fight only if necessary" CE character in. It was a very syncretic experience and it was fantastic. Love it when stuff lines up like that. At this point the Kingmaker iteration of the character is pretty distinct from past tabletop iterations, but also I think developed along such interesting routes that he's the definitive one to me, haha. To displace 3.5 NPC Balthazar... what a feat. At any rate I feel like canon is something that really just opened up new and interesting questions and ideas to expand the material I already had. Love when it's a conversation.

I guess when it comes to "how the story progresses and ends," then I certainly went against the text here and there for my personal canon. But that's distinct from "who this character is" to me, if that makes sense?
