Inter-Sect Politics for the Absolute Beginner
by Elpie (Horribibble) (@elpiething)
M, 3k, Wangxian
Summary: Today, with a formal missive from Koi Tower in hand and Zonghui staring at him with open concern, Nie Mingjue throws his head back and laughs and knows that no request will ever bring him such joy: Sect Leader Jin Guangshan has been brutally assaulted and, due to a conflict of interest, the Jin sect begs the assistance of the Honorable Sect Leader Nie Mingjue in the search for justice. - Wei Ying was raised in a brothel in Yunping, and Sect Leader Jin is having a very bad day. Kay's comments: Incredibly funny! Had me grinning the entire time. AU where Meng Shi was the one who found Wei Ying and took him in, offering him a home in the brothel. So, he grew up alongside Meng Yao and one day, when Jin Guangshan visits the brothel, Wei Ying is not going to stand by and look as his adopted family gets mistreated. Rest in pieces, Jin Guangshan's nuts. Excerpt: Without missing a beat, the young man laden in silks and ornaments and the almost tangible love of every courtesan in the room laden upon him like so much armor looks Sect Leader Jin dead in the eye and says, “A shitty lover, an angry drunk, but most of all an asshole.” Personally, Mingjue could not have asked for more. Except, perhaps, to borrow one of Huaisang’s fans to hide his face. “Young master,” Lan Xichen speaks up, ever the voice of gentle reason. “This is perhaps not the best defense…” For a moment, the youth stills, blinking at the elder jade, surprised by the sound of genuine concern. But then he takes a deep breath and plants his hands on his hips, clearly not having any of it. “It’s the truth.” He levels his gaze, once more, upon the gilded pervert. “You’ve got twenty kids at least, including A-Yao, so I know you know how a brothel works. You’re not new. If you’re coming into our houses to be a rotten bastard, you should just leave.” The only other man among the courtesans glaring death upon Jin Guangshan, has the spine to call, “Ying’er.” But Nie Mingjue suspects very little has ever deterred this man, least of all being called little baby.
pov wei wuxian, pov nie mingjue, canon divergence, canon era, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, non-yunmeng wei wuxian, courtesan wei wuxian, brothels, bamf wei wuxian, jin guangshan being an asshole, justice, families of choice, crack treated seriously, humor, different first meeting

wei wuxian being adopted by wen ruohan is not only the third young master of qishan, no one fear him, and frankly, they prefer him over wen chao
no, wen wuxian would be the annoying 13yo who would give a scroll to his sect leader predicting the outcome of the war the wen want to start, with two outcomes possible - wen ruohan dead and the war is lost, or wen ruohan win, but dies later because of rebels - and why they should not put this plan forward
wen ruohan is the tired guardian of a genius child (he thinks wei wuxian is right)
(and sends him to gusu to study when he's 15 after wei wuxian's non stoping begging, in the end, it's a ✨ vacation ✨ to wen ruohan)
(somehow he has to deal with two eloping teenagers now and a very angry lan qiren)

Sorta angst prompt but mostly WWX slowly recovering from having everything put into perspective.
The summoning ritual performed by MXY is slightly skewed resulting in WWX returning with both his own memories AND his past incarnations memories, that of the original Heavenly Demon Luo Binghe(the one with 300± wives).
WWX has a lot of trouble reconciling the two lifetimes (and reigning in Binghes obsessive nature) but it puts things in perspective and removes WWXs obliviousness towards LWJs feelings.
With WWXs new memories (he can cook now?) he decides to go all out to woo LWJ who is also trying to woo WWX, the genuinely romantic PDA make everyone either coo or just very uncomfortable.
I had to get familiar with the original Luo Binghe again in order to write this. Be prepared. This ended up being.....long.
______________________
After kicking away the insect that had dared to hit his face, Luo--Wei-- ugh. Having the memories of two drastically different lifetimes sucked.
He looked down below his hands and saw an experimental array. Huh. It seems I have to grant this person's wishes. But.....he didn't even tell me them! Oh well. I bet it's just killing some people. The rage and despair in this room as well as that spoiled young master's earlier attitude speaks volumes.
He sat down and skimmed through his memories of his two lives. He remembered how he died as Luo Binghe. It was all due to his carelessness. He had fought that clone(?) or other self of his and was injured. When he returned, his thoughts were still occupied by that different Shen Qingqiu. He was.....so remarkably different than the Shen Qingqiu Luo Binghe had known and Luo Binghe wanted him. Because it wasn't fair. It wasn't fair that that Binghe got to have a sweet and caring Shizun. It wasn't--
He shook it off.
Then he remembered being pierced by a sword or two. He remembered the faces of the people that had stabbed him. Remnants of the disciples of CangQiong Mountain. He remembered killing them and dragging his body towards an isolated place.
He remembered the sensation of death and thinking that it was fine. He had lived a fulfilling life. He had had many wives and, (he believes) quite a few children. Life was peaceful.
But it was boring.
Perhaps, in a different life, something could be different.
And it was. But being Wei Wuxian sucked. He was surrounded by people, yet still so completely alone. And he was so weak to the Jiangs. Honestly, he got it. Wei Wuxian had grown up believing that everything he had was because of the Jiangs. And it's hard to shake those feelings off since they were beat into him since he was ten. Honestly, Luo Binghe was glad that he got his memories back in this life. Continuing to live life believing that he should be guilty for everything that occurred in his second life would only spell trouble. After all, in all instances that the world considered him to be wrong, it was them who had attacked first, always beating him back into a corner. Everyone was against except for--
Except for Lan Zhan.
He paused. Lan Zhan....seems to love me?? With all his experience as Luo Binghe, he knows a thing or two about love and how to spot a person's interest. And it seems.....that Lan Zhan held quite a bit of that feeling towards him. But why does that make him feel.....joy? Could it be that I like him? He does remind me of that other Shizun a little bit, but the resemblance isn't all that much.
And that Shizun......*sigh* It's hard to admit but he was never mine.
Exploring this feeling wouldn't be all that bad. I've always had a think for cold, stoic people. Perhaps this is the different 'something' I needed.
But never mind that. I should be focusing on how to safely live in this body. It's pretty weak--hm? Interesting. It seems like this body has a small amount of Heavenly Demonic blood in it. Perhaps a descendant of my offspring? I did have a lot of wives, so it wouldn't be all that surprising.....
Anyway, my memories are still all mixed up. I don't know whether I'm Wei Wuxian or Luo Binghe sometimes. *sighs* But, whatever. I think I'll continue calling myself Wei Wuxian. It feels odd to do so considering I've lived longer as Luo Binghe, but calling myself by a well-known demon's name is not good. Though that may change sooner or later if I awaken the demon blood in this body. I might get a demonic mark on my forehead and will be an outcast if I do. I should probably build up strength first. And then, I wouldn't need to have these worries.......
Having sorted everything out, Wei Wuxian got up and ate one of the apples on the floor. Such scarce food, the feeling of hunger......he had promised himself in his first life that that would never happen again and yet look at him now!
Luckily, this body is partly a demon. He should quickly build of his cultivation and strength before getting Xin Mo back.
Upon remembering what he did to Xin Mo, Wei Wuxian groaned. I can't believe I turned my sword into the Stygian Tiger Seal. I really should get it back soon.
Now then, time to get back to the Mo family.
......
Damn it. He cursed as he saw the Lan disciples there. Out of all sects, why the Lan? It seems like I'll have to scrap my plan to kill the Mo family. I think I've identified the four people who tormented this poor kid though. But--hm? This presence.....
.
.
.
Well, at least I didn't have to do anything. Wei Wuxian cast a disinterested look at the corpses of those who tormented Mo Xuanyu. They're dead now. You have your revenge.
The marks on his wrist are gone and he's free now. But......should he help them?
The Lan disciples were struggling against the ghost arm that had somehow snuck its way into the Mo residence and who was the culprit for murdering the Mos.
Wei Wuxian had been assisting them a little, using resentful energy to trip up the body the ghost arm was possessing and dragging the children away from harm. But should he risk exposure?
Wei Wuxian held his head. Fighting against his instinct to help others without care for his own health was tough.
Luckily, that decision was taken out of his hands by Lan Wangji's arrival.
Lan Wangji......he looked sad for some reason.
Hmm, should I stay or should I go? I have no reason to run away and Lan Wangji isn't an enemy. Wei Wuxian hemmed and hawed and finally decided not to run away.
The little Lan disciples introduced him to Lan Wangji who didn't seem very interested though his eyes sort of glinted at his appearance.
"Who is he?"
"Ah, he's the surviving member of the Mo family." Lan Sizhui replied.
"Hanguang-Jun, these people treated him so horribly!" The hyper Lan kid, Lan Jingyi exclaimed. "He didn't do anything wrong and acted normal and they had the gall to say that he was a lunatic!"
"Now, now. Calm down, Jingyi." Lan Sizhui said.
"Mo....Xuanyu, I see." And why did he look so disappointed? Was there something wrong with his appearance? ...Ah. He supposed there was. That poor Mo Xuanyu was mistreated and he stunk to high heavens. He probably didn't look all that great.
Lan Wangji handed some money to the children. "Get some rest and bathe. Him, too."
"Yes, Hanguang-Jun!"
"Come, Mo-gongzi. We'll get you cleaned up."
Wei Wuxian stared at Lan Wangji for a little bit. I suppose he doesn't recognize me. "Okay." He also wanted to get out of these clothes.
....
Having been cleaned, fed, and given new clothes, Wei Wuxian felt like a new man. Glancing at the black hanfu he'd been given, he had an idea. I hadn't erased the summoning ritual back at Mo Xuanyu's shed. Lan Wangji must be cleaning up right about now. He must have seen something considering the residual resentful energy lingering there. This body looks similar to how I did when I was Wei Wuxian. With a few adjustments, I should look the same.
Looking at his reflection in the water, he decided he looked similar enough and exited the room.
And there was Lan Wangji, frowning at the papers in his hand. Taking a quick glance at it, Wei Wuxian concluded that it must be the talismans and papers from the shed detailing the sacrifice ritual. As Wei Wuxian plopped down in the chair, he cleared his throat and Lan Wangji stiffened slightly, looking up from the papers, eyes widening.
His mouth parted as if to say something and closed again.
Has he started to suspect who I really am? "Ah, Hanguang-Jun, thanks for the meal, bath, and clothes! This is the most kindness I've gotten from someone in years!"
"Huh? But didn't you get plenty of kindness when you were at Jinlintai?"
Hmm, this could be the perfect chance to give Lan Wangji some hints. I don't want to give myself away too quickly. "Hmm, honestly speaking I don't remember a lot of my life. It just feels like a blur. Though it must've happened when that "family" of mine hit my head."
Lan Wangji frowned further. Those pretty eyes flicked back and forth between the papers and him.
Ah, he's starting to notice now, isn't he? But maybe I shouldn't make it that easy. I want him to notice me and observe my actions. I want him to find out who I am. His reaction when he does, I wonder what that will be like.
But Lan Wangji can be suspicious all he likes. What would be the decisive factor leading him to believe I'm Wei Wuxian? Hmm, I'll think about that later. First.....let's see what's left of the Mo family's riches, if the servants haven't looted it all. I should make sure this kid's mother is properly buried too. His journal detailed a lot of love for his mother. And a lot of hate from the Mo family towards them.
He parted from the Lan group as they had no reason to keep him and went through the Mo family treasury. Luckily, there was still quite a bit left. Grabbing a nearby qiankun pouch, he pocketed everything in there and left. He found the kid's mother's grave and made sure she was properly buried in the ancestral home. After paying his respects to both the mother and Mo Xuanyu, he left the Mo residence and took the stubborn donkey left at the shed with him.
It would make a decent enough steed with how fervently the donkey went after the apple he had attached to the end of a stick. He asked around and headed for Dafan mountain, where he had heard Lan Wangji went.
On the way, he absentmindedly called for Wen Ning. The poor kid who he had revived in his last life must still be alive. After all, humans are greedy creatures. If they could control a powerful corpse such as Wen Ning by their side, then they would jump at the opportunity. He didn't have much hope considering it had been over a decade, but on the second day of his travel, Wen Ning appeared wrapped in chains.
Wei Wuxian's mind lit up. Perhaps Wen Ning might be the key to having Lan Wangji discover me! Maybe I should have Wen Ning appear in a dramatic fashion so that Lan Zhan would try to capture me to question me.
......
Hmm.
Wei Wuxian stared as the goddess possessing a statue went after Jin Ling, his previous life's shijie's son. He honestly wasn't expecting such a situation when he first came to Dafan mountain and there was a lot more people around than he expected but maybe he could ask Wen Ning for help? After all, his body was still weak. His golden core and demonic blood weren't that strong.
He can't really do much with demonic cultivation unless he wanted to be hunted so Wen Ning was the best choice. But what song would be best?
He finally decided on a random trill using the bamboo flute he had roughly carved and winced at the terrible sound. I'll improve it later...... He ignored the children's groans at sound and kept playing until Wen Ning appeared and quickly smashed the statue to pieces.
But it seemed that people decided that Wen Ning was now a target and started attacking. *sigh*
He began playing a song he vaguely remembered hearing somewhere - a cave(?) - and Wen Ning calmed down and under his instructions began to retreat.
As Wei Wuxian ended the song, Lan Wangji ran up and grabbed his wrist. Wei Wuxian smiled secretly and dropped the flute. Though...
"Ow." He couldn't help but exclaim. Lan Wangji was...really strong!
Hearing his gasp of pain, Lan Wangji dropped his wrist and wanted to say something when they were rudely interrupted by Jiang Cheng, ugh.
I mean, damn it. I get you have some unresolved issues, but shouldn't you feel some sort of indifference after so many years? How come you're still angry?
Thankfully, this interference allowed for Lan Wangji the opportunity to "capture" Wei Wuxian and take him to Gusu.
.......
It seems that flirting doesn't work anymore.
Wei Wuxian could not tease Lan Wangji. The man's defenses, or rather, immunity were too high after all those years. A shame. It seems I'll have to be bolder.
So, that night, Wei Wuxian pinned Lan Wangji down and teased him.
"Are you sure this is what you want?"
The words sounded ominous somehow. "I've never been more serious."
Lan Wangji reached up and pressed on some acupoints. Wei Wuxian collapsed on top of his chest, shocked. What?
"Then stay like this for the whole night."
How am I supposed to sleep???
.............
Flirting doesn't work, seducing doesn't work, and being shameless backfires on me! Was I wrong that Lan Wangji didn't at least like me?
He seemed pretty attracted in my last life.....
.
.
.
Urgh, should I just be direct?
"Lan Zhan, you know it's me, right?" He asked as the walked in the direction that the ghost hand pointed them to.
"Mn."
"How did you figure it out? Was it Wen Ning?"
"Hm. No."
No?? Then how? Was it the song? But it couldn't be that, right? I don't quite remember how I know that song, considering how mixed up my memories are, but that's the only thing I could think of.
A sudden bark made him stiffen instinctively. He calmed himself down and tried to seem unaffected. His cynophobia of his life as Wei Wuxian still affected to him to a point though it wasn't too bad. Still, it was a point of contention as to his identity as Wei Wuxian.
He turned and saw a dog jump at him. Tamping down his terror, he calmly dodged to the side. The dog landed ungracefully and looked at him sadly. The dog has the symbol of the Jin clan, could it know Mo Xuanyu?
"Fairy!"
Fairy?
"Fairy, where are--ugh, it's you." Jin Ling stopped short.
Wei Wuxian turned and sighed. "Ugh, it's you." He mocked.
"You--! Don't mock me!!"
"Treat others the way you want to be treated." Wei Wuxian shrugged as Jin Ling gathered his dog by his side.
"Huh? And why should I do that?!"
"Eh, it was just a suggestion. Besides, did I do something to you? Why else would you react like that?"
"Do you not remember? What you did to Xiao Shushu was....ugh. I don't want to remember. I'm going now."
Hmm? Did Mo Xuanyu do something? I should probably know about it in case.....
"Are you okay?"
"Hm? Yeah."
"You...froze up when the dog came."
"Ah, that." Wei Wuxian waved him away. "When I was younger, I got attacked by dogs. I've grown from it--" I decidedly did not. "--and now only freeze up. It's a reflex now since no one ever deemed it necessary to teach me how to get over my fears." Oops, that's a little too much info.
".....I see. .....Call me."
"Hm?"
"If there's a dog, I will....chase it away. Even if you don't need it, I......I will be your shield."
Wei Wuxian stared at the ears that were gradually turning red. No one's ever......No one has ever said that to me. During both of my lives, I always had to protect myself. Even as Luo Binghe, I was always protecting someone. There has never been anyone that said they'd be my shield.
.....They hadn't dared to imply that I needed protecting.
"Wei Ying?"
"A-Ah. Thanks, Lan Zhan. You....." Wei Wuxian smiled, his heart feeling full. "You are the first person to ever tell me that."
"......” Lan Wangji’s lips parted. “No need for thanks."
......
After saving Jin Ling from the man-eating saber graves, Lan Wangji, after Wei Wuxian's insistence, headed off to find the person who had been observing them while Wei Wuxian started to dispel the curse on Jin Ling.
Smelling a light ozone scent, Wei Wuxian hurriedly dodged the oncoming attack.
Fuck, it's Jiang Cheng. Just my luck. Now Wei Wuxian could have escaped, but Jiang Cheng had interrupted him while he had been dispelling the curse, causing it to attach to Wei Wuxian and drain his energy.
So he was subsequently captured and questioned by Jiang Cheng. Having seen his nonchalant reaction to the dog, he faltered a bit, but nevertheless kept him tied up.
Wei Wuxian was attempted to say "Oooh, kinky!" just to piss Jiang Cheng off enough to release, but decided to hold his tongue. He didn't know this Jiang Cheng well enough to predict his reactions.
Jin Ling allowed him to escape though, so that was a plus.
.....
After reuniting with a worried Lan Wangji, questioning a suspicious Nie Huaisang and calming down the body parts of some poor guy, the two of them finally got some alone time.
And Wei Wuxian finally decided to bite the bullet. Having spent an extended amount of time with Lan Wangji, he was now sure that yes, he did indeed like Lan Wangji romantically. He was wondering about the best way to bring this topic up and decided to be straightforward.
"Soooo, Lan Zhan, when did you start to like me that way?"
Lan Zhan choked on his food.
Frantic to help him, Wei Wuxian carelessly handed him a glass of "water" which wasn't water at all and instead Wei Wuxian's own cup of alcohol.
"Oh no. Lan Zhan, that's alcohol!"
But it was too late. Within ten seconds, Lan Zhan was out cold.
...
Wei Wuxian had a little fun doing some Q&A with a drunk Lan Zhan, who seemed to hang onto Wei Wuxian's every word. However, there were some questions he didn't want to answer or was shy about answering.
So cute..... Wei Wuxian grinned. “Lan Zhan~” He leaned closer. “Want a kiss?” He winked.
“....” Lan Wangji looked shocked, but his ears flared red.
“Come on, Lan Zhan. I like you and you like me, so it’s okay, right?” It’s a little dubious considering he’s inebriated, but he’s just....so cute!
Suddenly, Lan Wangji flipped him around, pressing him into the bed and killing the candlelight.
Oh-ho? So forward. But, I’m not going to let him get the-- Wei Wuxian suddenly found himself unable to move. Damn this body-locking spell! “Lan Zhan~!” He whined. “Undo it, now! It’s uncomfortable!”
Lan Wangji took that moment to undo his belt. “
“No, no, no, not that! The spel---mmph!”
“No talking. It’s haishi (7-9 pm). Time for sleep!”
“Can’t we talk while in bed? I’m still awake!!”
“No.”
“Aiya, so merciless.......”
............
In the end, Wei Wuxian ended up having to clarify his words the next morning. Lan Wangji looked shocked and taken aback when Wei Wuxian confessed, as if he wasn’t expecting it.
“Wei Ying, I....I like you too. But....you....” You never felt this way before. The words were unspoken yet heard nonetheless.
“I know. But death gives clarity to things previously unknown. And I, along this journey with you, found I really enjoy your company. I cannot see myself anywhere but by your side.” Wei Wuxian grasped his hands. “But on the other hand, Lan Zhan, you......you don’t mind being with me? My reputation--”
“Doesn’t matter.” Lan Wangji said, tone clipped. “I already missed one chance to be with you. I will not make the same mistake.”
Wei Wuxian felt an immense amount of elation. His eyes began to burn. “......Lan Zhan,” He started, voice serious. “If you agree to be with me, I won’t let you go. I’m too used to people from me, so I’ll hold onto you even tighter than I’ve done for others. Even hearing that, are you willing to be with me?”
“....Yes.”
Wei Wuxian threw himself at Lan Wangji, hugging him tight. Lan Zhan, you’ve said it. You’re mine now. And I..... He opened his eyes, which burned bright red.
I will never let you go.....
....................
Despite having made that decision, Wei Wuxian still couldn’t overpower Lan Wangji. He had always been the dominant one in his relationships as Luo Binghe, so to find himself instead being pressed down and made to behave....made him feel both weak but....strangely happy(?).
Whatever it was, Wei Wuxian didn’t mind their current dynamics.
However, now that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were courting, Wei Wuxian felt the need to spoil Lan Wangji. He didn’t have much to his name, but he did remember how to cook. He wasn’t sure his current body would adapt, but he’s sure that with a little practice, he would get better.
So he got right down to cooking - after he found out Lan Wangji’s favorite dishes - and presented them to him. Lan Wangji seemed pretty happy to receive the dishes and was all praises to him.
Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but feel smug and on cloud-nine all day.
“When did you learn?” Lan Wangji asked.
Wei Wuxian froze at that. Ah. That’s right. I haven’t told him about my past life. “Practice, of course! I couldn’t just serve you food without practicing!” I’ll tell him later. I’m....not ready to see his reaction to my past life.
(Later, of course, Lan Wangji one-upped him by buying him new clothes and a flute.)
..........................
Time passed and eventually the two made their way to Yi City. Everything was pretty much fine except for the children and Xue Yang showing up. But both were taken care of - in different ways - soon enough.
Wei Wuxian felt bad for Xiao Xingchen, Song Zichen, and A’ Qing but wished them well. More importantly, Wei Wuxian got Xin Mo back! It was hiding in Xue Yang’s sleeve and was easy to call out. There was some masked man that came not long after and took Xue Yang’s body, probably thinking that the Seal was on it.
Having finished their business in Yi City, he, Lan Wangji and the juniors all headed to a nearby town to rest up.
..............
It was quite fun seeing a drunk Lan Zhan getting all jealous over Wen Ning, and then playing hide and seek with Wei Wuxian. It was kinda sad to see him fall asleep after sharing a sweet kiss with Wei Wuxian but he took it all in stride.
(Wei Wuxian discovered the meaning of the forehead ribbon and spent some time steaming in embarrassment at how he basically propositioned Lan Zhan all those years ago, until he was interrupted. The corpse pieces they had gathered had broken free and went on a rampage but it was solved soon after Lan Xichen arrived.)
.
.
.
As the two of them headed for the discussion conference in Lanling, Wei Wuxian remembered to ask, “Hey, Lan Zhan, what did Mo Xuanyu do to attract so much ire?”
Lan Zhan thought for a bit, “I am not quite sure, but from what Xiongzhang told me, he made some......untoward advances to Jin-zongzhu.”
“Ah-cha......really? Mo Xuanyu, ah, Mo Xuanyu, really??”
“I cannot be sure. I have never trusted rumors unless I see it happen with my own eyes. ....Especially coming from the Jins.”
“Heheh, Lan Zhan, are you angry at them for running a smear campaign on me?”
“Mn.”
Wei Wuxian was tempted to tease him, but noticed the odd looks of the people around him. Hm??? Why are they looking at me like that?
The conference continued and Wei Wuxian continued to be on his best behavior. Considering what Mo Xuanyu did, drawing attention to himself was not really a desired outcome. Though him sitting next to Lan Wangji was drawing enough attention.
Nevertheless, it passed by quickly and soon Wei Wuxian got bored, he decided to skip the rest of the conference and wander around. He found Jin Ling being bullied and decided to teach him so tricks to win. The child was happy and Wei Wuxian felt a twinge of guilt looking at him.
His mother and father died because of me. Though I never meant to kill them....it still pains me to this day. Perhaps if I had awakened my memories sooner.....none of this would have happened, but.....but it’s too late for regrets.
“Hey, Lan Zhan, what happened to Suibian?” He had completely forgotten about his trusty sword.
“It sealed itself and is with the Jins.”
“Huh? The Jins? Not the Jiangs?”
“Mn.”
“Odd. Suibian was created by Yunmeng Jiang. Even though I was no longer part of the Jiangs by the time I died, the sword should go to the Jiangs considering its origins. Strange how no one questioned it.”
“Mn. Everyone was too busy with the.........aftermath.” He clenched his fists at that and Wei Wuxian could imagine why.
His notes and inventions were probably all squirreled up with the sects. The greedy bastards probably couldn’t contain their excitement over getting a piece of my knowledge.
.....
Wei Wuxian decided to explore Jin Guangyao’s chambers after he and Lan Zhan had concluded that he was suspicious. And sure enough, there was a bunch of information he found out. Namely, Nie Mingjue’s head and everything the poor guy had experienced as well as Qin Su who seemed hysterical at something. He had planned on sneaking back with he was caught by Jin Guangyao.
Thinking quickly, he summoned Suibian and blocked Jin Guangyao’s attacks, making his escape. He had to inform Lan Zhan!
.
.
The confrontation was a lot more public than Wei Wuxian was expecting. But oh well. He managed to just barely save Qin Su. The poor girl had been about to stab herself for some odd reason and he couldn’t allow that! She was a key witness to Jin Guangyao’s machinations. So he shot out his spiritual energy to grab onto the knife and fling it away. He knocked the girl out soon after and after a little debate, placed her with Jiang Cheng.
He didn’t really trust Lan Xichen considering how close he was to Jin Guangyao. And though he didn’t quite see himself being close with Jiang Cheng, he still trusted him to keep her away from the Jins.
Also.....he was a lot more prepared for Jin Guangyao’s accusations considering he didn’t draw Suibian and pretended like it was still sealed. It cast a lot of doubt on whether he was actually Wei Wuxian which didn’t seem like what Jin Guangyao had planned for.
Regardless of whether Wei Wuxian drew Suibian in public or not, they were still surrounded by Jin disciples, as many were still in doubt.
This is.....annoying. It's cute that Lan Zhan is protecting me but considering their numbers, I don't think it'll last long. Though, I could still make a move. Just these few numbers isn't enough to stop me. They're already suspicious enough about me and I've become strong enough. Xin Mo is by my side too. .....Eh, fuck it.
"Welp, guess I've been caught. But," He innocently tilted his head to the side. "What makes you think I'll go down without a fight?"
"You....You devil! You bewitched Hanguang-Jun!!"
"Hmm, that's true enou---"
"I was happy to be bewitched." Lan Zhan interrupted despite the scandalized gasps that resounded in the square.
Wei Wuxian grinned widely despite the circumstance, cupping Lan Wangji's face. "You were, weren't you? You were bewitched by me and were all too happy to do so. After all, Lan Zhan, you agreed to be mine, right?"
Lan Zhan's ears went red. "Yes."
"Then these little distractions," He continued, eyes glowing bright red. "Should just go away, no? Xin Mo, restrain them."
Xin Mo flew out from his sleeve, glowing and eerie red. Within an instant, the Jins were all suppressed, Xin Mo alighting softly into his palm.
"You....You're Wei Wuxian?" Jin Ling's voice trembled.
"Hm, yes."
Wei Wuxian spotted the drawing of his sword and sighed. Flicking out a finger, Suihua was tossed to a side.
"Nice try, but you aren't stabbing me today."
"I....I deserve to. You killed my father!!"
"I did. But Jin Ling, did you ever stop to think about why I may have done that?"
"Wha--"
There were noises of protest so Wei Wuxian used some resentful energy to block their mouths.
"Jin Ling, when that rat Jin Zixun decided to ambush me with three hundred archers, do you know what your father said upon seeing me defend myself?"
"N-No?"
"He told me to restrain Wen Ning. He told me, who had been cornered and desperate to escape, to restrain Wen Ning, the only person protecting me while three hundred archers pointed their weapons at me. So tell me, Jin Ling, what was I supposed to think of your father, who had said that, and now came close to me, radiating hostility? I had never spent much time with him. How was I supposed to know that he wasn't an enemy as well? I didn't want to kill him but I didn't want him close either. With those two desires warring inside me, Wen Ning, under my direction and in his unconscious state, chose to stop him. How he stopped him from getting close, I'm sure you could imagine."
Jin Ling looked so confused so Wei Wuxian took pity on him. He'd probably been told otherwise his entire life. I should give him some time to think over what I've said.
"Lan Zhan, let's go."
"Mn."
...............
The two of them had made an escape to the Cloud Recesses whereWei Wuxian threw up a bit of blood.
“Wei Ying!”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. I just had to get purge the resentful energy from harming my core. Let’s rest at the Cloud Recesses and find out some info. There was something in Nie Mingjue’s memories that piqued my interest......”
...
After resting in the Gentian house, they found a missing page in the Collection of Turmoil and with it, some proof of Jin Guangyao’s guilt. Lan Xichen didn’t seem to want to believe it and went outside to get some air. He shared their mother’s story and played a song on his xiao.
Wei Wuxian was quiet for a bit. He couldn’t say a single word of comfort. Having lost a mother in all of his lives, he knew that no amount of words could ever fill the gap where they should have been.
................
Soon after, they heard news of the juniors being kidnapped and went on an impromptu mission to rescue them. Of course, it was a trap, what with the sect leaders having been tricked into believing it was Wei Wuxian’s fault.
“You speak of your grievances of Nightless City?” he said disdainfully. “Ha! You only got what you deserved. Each and every single time I caused a big ruckus, tell me, who attacked first?” He shook his head, red eyes staring them all down. “It was you. It was always you who attacked first. I was just defending myself. Or could it be that you just want me to lie back and let you kill me?” He sneered. “How. Shameless. Of. You.”
The people before him shook with barely restrained anger. A few tried to attack him, but Lan Zhan defended him.
“Hanguang-Jun! How could you defend him?!” A few cried in outrage.
“Wangji, come back.” Lan Qiren asked.
Lan Zhan gave them a cold stare, “No.”
Angered, some random person - Wei Wuxian couldn’t be bothered to remember the name of - began to insult Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji didn’t really care, “You are not qualified to speak to me.” And made the person sputter.
Which was nice and all but......that was the last straw.
For Wei Wuxian, at least. “Kneel.” Resentful energy filled him and forced those that insulted him to fall to their knees. “Listen here, you pathetic lowlifes. It is thanks to my array that you powerless louts are shielded here. Should you think of ever insulting my Lan Zhan again, perhaps I should revoke your right to be here.”
The fools shivered on their knees.
Satisfied, Wei Wuxian began to explain to the idiots why exactly their spiritual energy didn’t work and they didn’t believe him until Wei Wuxian tricked one of them into using spiritual energy to destroy a sheet of paper containing information. Spiritual energy, which they shouldn’t have.
That person - the Su sect leader - escaped soon after breaking the barrier.
Putting his hand to his forehead, Wei Wuxian directed them out and together with the juniors, Wen Ning and Lan Zhan, suppressed the rest of the corpses.
Having completed all that, they all headed to Lotus Pier to consolidate their information.
..............
Wei Wuxian watched the crowd slowly turn against Jin Guangyao, and begin to create new rumors and new fears about him. They began to slowly turn him into an irredeemable villain and yet another scapegoat for their anger and Wei Wuxian couldn’t watch anymore.
He escaped that place and began to show Lan Wangji all of his favorite places. Including the tree that had started his relationship with Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli.
Seeing Lan Zhan standing there, Wei Wuxian had a thought. If he caught me....like so many others had failed to before, how would I feel?
He slipped from the tree straight into Lan Zhan’s arms.
Safe. It feels.....safe. Strange how I hardly felt this comfortable before. I.....I really do love him.
.
.
Together, they went to the ancestral shrine as Wei Wuxian wanted to say some things.
Jiang Fengmian, you never told me about my parents. Regardless of your grief or your terrible wife, I could never understand your reluctance, but perhaps, you wanted to have something to tether me to the sect.
Yu Ziyuan, I despise you. You made my life a living hell despite all that you taught me. My parents (of my second life) were in love with each other. You knew that. You knew that nothing came between my mother and Jiang Fengmian. I wonder if there’s another reason you treated me so horribly. It doesn’t matter now. You are dead and I......am free.
Jiang Yanli, I saw you as a sister in my second life. I enjoyed our time together, I really did, but if you really cared for me.....I--
He never finished that thought as Jiang Cheng bursted in, interrupting his thoughts. He accused him of all sorts of things and Wei Wuxian was just tired.
“Lan Zhan, let’s go.”
“Mn.”
As they turned to leave, Jiang Cheng hurled more insults at them. Wei Wuxian heard Zidian unfurl and only had a split moment to think, covering Lan Wangji’s body with his. He threw up blood upon contact and that, combined with the exhaustion of the entire day caused him to pass out.
“Wei Ying!!” Lan Wangji was immediately at his side but couldn’t think fast enough to block the next attack.
Luckily, Wen Ning was there to stop it. And he was uncharacteristically mad.
Lan Wangji felt frustrated tears roll down his cheeks at the reveal of what happened to Wei Wuxian. Jiang Cheng just felt his world collapse.
Wen Ning stared Jiang Cheng down, anger infused with every word as he told them both what exactly Wei Wuxian sacrificed.
After Jiang Cheng ran away, carrying Suibian, Lan Wangji and Wen Ning took a boat and headed to Yunping.
Wei Wuxian woke up soon after and began to hand feed Lan Zhan the lotus seeds from plucked lotus pods. Lan Wangji returned the favor and the two of them cuddled close as Wen Ning looked up and away.
.............................
Soon enough, Wei Wuxian found himself at Guanyin temple by himself. He had......accidentally given Lan Zhan more alcohol, had fun wandering around the town and causing havoc, and then...... Wei Wuxian blushed remembering what the two of them did then. However.....remembering the whip scars and Wen brand, he frowned. Who on earth did that to him?
Unfortunately, though, they weren’t able to go any further as Lan Wangji just passed out when it hit curfew.
Wei Wuxian left Xin Mo with Lan Zhan, hoping it could protect his unconscious form and decided to explore on his own. After all, what’s the worst that could happen?
.
.
.
Turns out, being captured after saving Jin Ling is what happened.
Honestly, he should have prepared for a situation like this but he was too preoccupied with what he did with Lan Zhan to properly form a plan. Oh well, Lan Zhan will wake up soon enough.
But not before Lan Xichen had decided that now was a good time to scold him for ever wanting Lan Zhan after what he said to him in the cave. And Wei Wuxian, confused, said, “What cave?”
His memories were all mixed up so there’s a chance that he could have mixed something up but the situation Lan Xichen was describing didn’t register. However, Wei Wuxian couldn’t accept Lan Xichen’s words.
“Lan-zongzhu, you should know that in my eyes, I had tried my damn hardest to make Lan Zhan like me and he only rejected me. He never let me be close enough to understand his quirks and I wasn’t around him long enough to learn. So how the hell am I supposed to know that he had liked me then? All I knew was that he often glared at me and, according to the others who were closer to me, that he hated me. Having had a set opinion about him like that, how was I supposed to know he was an ally?
Zewu-jun, only you and Lan Qiren knew him well. So don’t blame me for that. And besides, the whipping? Ha! Lan Xichen, all Lan Zhan’s life, he had been good and obedient. Even when defending me at Nightless City, he didn’t kill or permanently maim those elders. And yet, look at what happened to him. One mistake and you nearly kill him.
That isn’t my fault, that isn’t Lan Zhan’s fault.
Lan Xichen. It is you and your clan’s fault for Lan Zhan ending up that way. So don’t make me the scapegoat for your guilt.”
So deep into his rant, Wei Wuxian didn’t notice a sober Lan Zhan arrive as well as Jin Guangyao’s sneak attack.
A guqin wire pressed against his throat as Jin Guangyao threatened Lan Wangji with hurting Wei Wuxian. It was pretty effective and within a few seconds, Lan Zhan sealed his spiritual energy and stepped back.
Annoyed at the turn of events, Wei Wuxian began to describe in explicit detail what he’d like Lan Wangji to do to him. He didn’t even get that far when Jin Guangyao’s grip on him loosened, giving him an opportunity to escape.
What followed.......
What followed was Jiang Cheng’s appearance and defeat at Jin Guangyao’s hands, Su Minshan revealing himself to be the catalyst for Wei Wuxian’s eventual death, Nie Mingjue’s return, Wen Ning’s protection over Jin Ling, Nie Huaisang’s trick and Jin Guangyao’s subsequent death, the sealing of Nie Mingjue and the collapse of the Guanyin temple.
In the ruins of it all, Wei Wuxian couldn’t care less. The mystery had been solved and he and Lan Zhan were free to do what they wanted. They went on their own way despite the way Lan Qiren keeled over (at the sight of them).
Wei Wuxian had his happy ending and he hoped to keep it that way.
.........................................................
[Bonus]
Lan Sizhui didn’t really know what to think of Hanguang-jun, his father figure, suddenly showing interest in a rumored lunatic. But honestly, he was glad. Hanguang-Jun had this perpetual aura of grief for some time and it seemed that spending time with Mo-gongzi alleviated that somewhat.
Lan Sizhui was happy for them. (And even more so once he remember who he was to Xian-gege.)
/////////
Lan Jingyi didn’t know that Hanguang-Jun was a cutsleeve, but that was fine with him! He didn’t know what to think when it was Mo Xuanyu, but he became a little more agreeable to it once he found out that it was actually Wei Wuxian.
They made such a power couple! Lan Jingyi was sure they would definitely show all those haters who’s boss!
///////////
Nie Huaisang wasn’t expecting this kind of development when he reunited Lan Wangji with Wei Wuxian, but he wasn’t complaining. There seemed to be something......different about Wei-xiong and he seemed....a lot more powerful than he was before.
But never mind that! Nie Huaisang was looking forward to the plays and books he could write to honor their story!
/////////////
Jiang Cheng could sense that something was wrong with Wei Wuxian. He wasn’t as afraid of dogs anymore and his personality seemed similar, but also completely different at the same time.
And on top of that, he got together with Lan Wangji of all people!
Jiang Cheng was very uncomfortable seeing such an openly in love couple but more than that.......never mind.
(More than that........Jiang Cheng was just glad that Wei Wuxian got his happy ending. )
///////////////
All in all, the consensus of the relationship between Hanguang-Jun and the Yiling Patriarch was torn between outrage and a little bit of admiration.
Some enjoyed the story of the two and others still couldn’t accept the Yiling Patriarch.
But it didn’t matter what people thought. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji ignored it all. They loved each other and that’s all that mattered.
_____________________________
Hmm, I know the prompter asked for a lot of wooing and people’s reactions but my brain went “nope, time for a rewrite of the entire story” lol. This is a 7k long fic.
Also, my asks are now open!

I just had an argument about LWJ and whether he trusted WWX and some idiot tried to argue their case by saying "it's like a cat or a child, you would trust them with everything"
FML... WWX is a fucking BAMF not a child or a pet!!!!! Honestly, are these people just stupid?!
LWJ always trusted WWXs character and morality and vice versa. That's part of the attraction as well! That they are both skilled and on par with each other. Neither of them have ever felt that before until they met each other. Even WWX himself says he doesn't need protecting - but he complies because he absolutely loves LWJ making a fuss out of him and clearly LWJ loves doing so knowing he's more than capable nevertheless.
I can't believe they compared such an amazing character to a fn pet or kid! That's enough stupidity for today please!!!

how about: jiang yanli's core is as strong as wei wuxian's?
“We have to find jiejie,” Jiang Cheng said numbly. “We have to – she’ll have heard, won’t she? Meishan isn’t that far. She’ll have heard…”
“We need to get away,” Wei Wuxian insisted. “You saw what happened. I know – I know it’s hard. Losing Uncle Jiang and Madame Yu…they gave their lives so we could live. We need to get away –”
“We need to find jiejie,” Jiang Cheng stressed. He ran his hands through his hair. “She’s like me, all right? Only she’s stronger than I am. Don’t you understand? Everything you’re afraid that I’ll do, she’ll do, too! She’ll run right into the Wen sect camp if that’s what it takes to get our parents’ bodies back!”
Wei Wuxian hadn’t thought about that. Jiang Yanli was so gentle most of the time, kind and friendly and easygoing, always there with a pot of soup or a friendly word, that he often forgot that she had a golden core that rivaled his own – that the only reason she wasn’t the chief disciple of Yunmeng Jiang instead of him was because female cultivators were generally excluded from such positions.
Jiang Cheng wasn’t wrong, though. Jiang Yanli might not be as prickly as Jiang Cheng was, but she was incredibly passionate in the defense of those she loved – Wei Wuxian himself had been protected by her many times before, even though he didn’t need it and told her as much.
She would, in fact, be just as reckless as Jiang Cheng might be.
“Well, shit,” Wei Wuxian said. “You’re right. Let’s find her.”
Jiang Cheng nodded. He was still in shock, still a little dull-eyed and disconnected from the world, but the notion of a purpose had put some life back into him after the massacre – he would make it, Wei Wuxian thought, and do so far better than Wei Wuxian’s original plan of lugging him along in secret as they made their way through the towns the Wen sect had now conquered.
They had a goal, now. They were going to find Jiang Yanli. (They found her in Yiling, seated right beside the Wen sect’s prized female doctor, and the expression on her face was little short of terrifying. “Don’t worry, didi,” she said to them both. “I have an idea…”)

It Was You All Along 1/2 on AO3
Wei Wuxian visits Lotus Pier with his new husband, uncertain what sort of reception he'll get. The reunion goes much better than he'd anticipated... meanwhile, he discovers that there was a lot more he'd missed during his time dead, including the fact that the Jianghu had held a tournament in an effort to find Jiang Cheng a spouse, and that the identity of the winner was still a mystery. It seems the time had finally come for the mystery to be solved once and for all.

Chengxian Oneshot: Hunt for the Fierce Corpse
"TERRIBLE NEWS!"
The crunch of harried footsteps over rotting branches, and harsh breathing breaking the peaceful quiet of the night. The man who'd touched the forbidden arts nearly reached his companions before resentful threads grabbed his ankles & he was dragged back with a garbled scream.
"Aiyo, dear friend, what's with the hurry?" a smooth voice lilted out from the darkness, almost pleasant if not for the thread of iciness mixed in the sing-song tone. "Look, you've forced me to crush your feet. I only wanted to ask a few questions!"
"S-stay away!" the man scrambled despite the overwhelming pain that crippled him, the all-consuming fear the only thing giving him enough strength to even try and move. He'd taken up demonic cultivation because he admired the legendary grandmaster who'd founded it. Who knew that ...who knew that--
"Why do you look so frightened?" a figure appeared soundlessly, as if melting out of the shadows. Petite figure and pale face covered in rouge like a hanged ghost. He didn't seem like much yet when he smiled & his eyes glinted red, silent power rolled off of him and gripped the man in paralyzing terror. "Didn't you say you are an ardent worshipper of The Grandmaster?"
The man couldn't speak. As he gazed up at the glinting red eyes that promised death he realized then - he had earned the wrath of someone he shouldn't have offended.
"How sad! You're not pleased to see your God" cold resentful energy crept around the man's throat and tightened its grip. "Are you afraid then?"
A handsome smirk on that hanged-ghost face. "Did you really think I would let you off because you follow the path I created?"
"Mercy!" the man croaked out. "Mercy! I did nothing! I don't know about Jiang Wanyin!"
"Learn to speak of him with respect, scum!" He snarled and the resentful tendrils squeezed until the man blacked out. "If you cannot give what I need to know then why the fuck are you before me? Trembling and useless, worthless trash. Do your friends know then? Is that why you were going to warn them?"
"Mercy!" the man wailed. "I don't know!"
"Worthless," He swore and stomped a foot on the wailing man's face. "And you dare call yourself my follower."
A foul smell wafted up and the man couldn't even bring himself to think of shame as he trembled underneath the foot of the person he'd admired and felt the ground beneath himself grow wet. A harsh laugh sounded out as the foot ground down, breaking his nose.
"Pathetic."
"You cannot bear even this much fear and pain, and you think you can practice demonic cultivation?" the horrible rouge-marred face leaned in with a ghoulish grin. "You dare to call yourself the Yiling Laozu's follower when you don't know what angers him the most?"
His voice turned softer. "You dare boast you will desecrate all his enemies when the one you desecrated is the one most precious to him?"
The man whimpered. He understood now, the terrors hearsay and convoluted tales could lead to.
"Now tell me, where is Jiang Wanyin?"
"I...don't.... know," the voice came out weak and nasally, speaking with effort through the pain of a broken nose and a foot on his face.
The hanged-ghost's amiable grin slid off and those red eyes hardened. "Fine then. I've got no use for you."
A finger's flick and those cold ropes of resentment severed the man's head off clean.
"Be grateful your death was quick. I could do much worse," Wei Wuxian muttered and turned towards the beaten down building - what looked like an old abandoned temple- the man had been running for. There was a heaviness and anger in his chest at failing to find information for a third day in a row. He recalled, in terrible scattered wisps, Dafan Mountain and the cold horror of staring at the being his impromptu summons had called forth.
Of a familiar face, that had once been alive and precious to him, ashen and webbed with the black markings of a fierce corpse. Of tattered purple robes that had once been bright and grand, speaking of wealth and power. Of a loved one he'd given his life to protect - cold and taken from him in the cruelest way possible.
/Jiang Cheng....what have they done to you?/
Unfortunately, before he could get an answer, his shidi (and greatest love) ran as if prompted by some mysterious force and left before Wei Wuxian could catch up.
Coming back from the dead was strange enough. He wouldn't have thought, in his entire life, he would come back to stare at the one he'd given everything to keep safe stare back at him as a fierce corpse.
Grief filled him. And then anger. He'd made sure to destroy his research before he went to face his own death. Wei Wuxian was certain there was something much bigger and more sinister at work behind this than mere upstarts trying to play necromancers.
Steps floating like a spectre's, he burst through the entrance of the rundown temple with a swirl of resentful energy and fully anticipated the barrage of attacks of other demonic cultivators already warned by their companion's ruckus.
"Terrible news!" Wei Wuxian sang as he dodged through every talisman and low grade fierce corpse they threw at him. "Or great news? Whatever"
He smiled, promising death and revenge, and pulled the makeshift flute to his lips.
"Great news! Wei Wuxian is alive!"
Bloodcurdling screams pierced through the air as death took many and left a few incapacitated and powerless. "And Wei Wuxian wants some answers."
He gazed down, condescending and unforgiving, at the trembling mass that lay at his feet - tousled up like the pheasants he caught back in his youth. The prey to his hunt - a hunt which would lead him to the one he'd lost.
"Tell me. Where is Jiang Wanyin?"
-End-

mdzs witch hat atelier au (sorta) where:
the yiling laozu becomes renowned as the first witch ever since the pact of the five clans to create talismans & arrays on the same level as the forbidden spells of old - and he did it by reversing the effects of a forbidden spell cast on his shidi.
the biggest, most powerful seal on his body takes up his entire back, with the gap by his nape - and it's a seal to keep him from channeling legendary beasts into existence (at the expense of his life force aha).
he's used it once during the war against the wens and never again.
after winning the war, he went off the grid, and not even his beloved shidi and shijie could get ahold of him - not for decades after.
wwx living the wanderer life, sometimes wearing a weimao with a seal for concealment; other times with just an active seal woven into his hair ribbon to obscure his face.
and then one day, the juniors - apprentices of lan, jin and jiang - meet a couple of strange ("you mean poor" "jin ling, that's rude") apprentices and their even stranger master ("he practically seems like a hobo!" "i'm telling aunt yanli you were being rude again" "you wouldn't dare!").
the strange ("a sadist and a weirdo" "aunt yanli is going to revoke your lotus soup rights" "hey, that's evil!") apprentices are apparently going to join them on taking the witches' trial at nightless city.
except things go awry when a dark witch sabotages their trial.
cue: wwx rescuing them using a few minor spells [none requiring the ones tatted on his body, but still quite unorthodox/uncommon] until jin ling tries to capture the dark witch and ends up nearly getting trapped in a harmful spell.
the gloves come off then.
and then hanguang-jun arrives.

Fic Finder
March 23rd
~*~
1. Hi. Looking for this fic wherein wwx tried to prank lqr and the elders by acting like a Lan. It backfired because they thought wwx was possessed by Lan An, especially when jwy visited cloud recesses (almost causes a war between jiang and lan). For it to end, wwx pretended to be Lan An and said goodbye then fake fainted (as if Lan An left wwx’s body)
please help me find it 🙏
Hi! I’m from the recent fic finder #1. Unfortunately that’s not what i’m looking for because I remember it being post canon (meaning wangxian are already married). I also remember the Lans asked lwj if lwj still do lovers stuff with wwx (as they really thought wwx was possessed by lan an)
FOUND? Wei Wuxian is Definitely Not Possessed by CursedBlessing (T, 20k, WangXian, Misunderstandings, General Dumbassery, Humor)
#1 I think was deleted. I know the fic they're asking about and I can't find it either.
Number 1 is the correct fic, it's just Chapter 3. / Yeah, 1 IS the correct fic, op's scene is the entirety of ch. 3
~*~
2. Hey, I'm looking for a wangxianfic, in which wei ying and lan zhan are already married. Wei ying goes on a night hunt with the juniors and gets hurt. I think it was a cut on the stomach with poison. Lan zhan cares for him but wei ying is almost dying. Lan zhan is davasteted and says that he can't wait for wei ying again. It was a completed work and I think just 4 chapters. Please can you find the title? With kind regards @smarti1997
~*~
3. I'm not sure if this is something I think happened in a fic, or it really exists, but on the off-chance someone know what I'm talking about - the Sunshot Campaign ends differently with Wen Qing/Wen Ning in charge of the Qishan Wen, and as part of reparations(? Maybe?) the family vaults are revealed. Wen Qing warns people not to touch anything but JGS is too greedy and grabs something and dissolves in dust? And then WQ opens the real vault, the first was to stop thieves. Thank you in advance! @katonahottinroof
I know which fic #3 is talking about but i cannot find it either, gonna go deep dive on ao3 tho (is it that one where the wens have a secret passage into the throne room that opens only with wen blood isnt it. unless im mixing fics too)
FOUND! ❤️ Gentians in bloom by teawater (M, 251k, WangXian, XiQing, XuanLi, Canon Divergence, Political Marriage, Dysfunctional Family, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm, Hurt/Comfort, Fix-It, LQR bashing (not really), POV Multiple, Implied/Referenced Suicide, Eventual Happy Ending, BAMF WWX, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, madam yu bashing (again not completely), MXY Deserves Better) the thing with jgs happen in chapter 34
~*~
4. Hi writing in hopes that someone remembers this fanfiction.:
i once read a fic where LWJ and WWX were stuck in the Xuanwu cave and WWX was i think on the verge of dying but then something emerges from the waters and gives LWJ a deal that if he gives up his voices then as an exchange he can save WWX's life which LWJ obviously does so his voice goes away but by the end of the fic Wangxian go back to the cave where LWJ gets his voice back because he once again strikes a deal with that creature giving up his immortality or something that has to do with him being worshipped for gaining his voice back. was a one shot that i remember clearly and was on ao3 platform also thank you so much cause this blog has bought me my favorite Wangxian fics.
FOUND! Outside Another Yellow Moon by Vamillepudding (T, 10k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, YLLZ WWX, Fairy Tale Elements, Hurt/Comfort, LWJ Needs a Hug, Curse Breaking)
~*~
5. help. hey i am certain the fanfics in my memories exist but they keep on eluding me so there are these 2 fics:
A) the premise of this story was time travel where modern WWX travels back in time when other WWX is living with the wens in the burial mounds when LWJ comes to the borders with his modern counterpart and when modern wangxian meet they have a sweet reunion in which they share a kiss after that they are joined by the hip much to the mortification of OG wangxian. WY's parents are dead (car accident) but madam Lan's alive and he calls her mother or mom and modern them is engaged they also have their phones by which they click a photo and after coming to modern world WY sees that as proof that it actually happened. read it on ao3 muti chaptered (completed) with either 4 or 6 chapters 6 being maximum
B) in this one the main Lan fam is captured body swap between WRH and LWJ occurs and after LWJ realizes what has happen he commands that his body's head be severed which is currently housing WRH's soul and LXC and LQR are present to see that happening and grieve over LWJ not knowing WRH was the one who died and LWJ doesn't inform them about the body swap but tells the guards to take LXC and LQR to their rooms he keeps his own body's severed head in his room also. LWJ asks guards to bring him WWX which they do but injured and WWX sees LWJ's severed head and gets angry he also practices to be more like WRH so nobody suspects this is the most clear i remember there were also i think one appearance of WQ and some from WX and WC was on ao3 ongoing atleast when i was reading think over 5 chapter but under 10 the last i had checked (i was so curios to know what happens next but i lost the fic)
thx and sorry if its too confusing
5B)
FOUND? where the sky begins by Shializaro (Not Rated, 17k, WangXian, Bodyswap, Blood and Violence, Body Dysphoria, Dissociation, Rape/Non-con Elements, Crack Treated Seriously)
~*~
6. Hello! This is for ficfinder, I have lost track of two fics, and would very much like assistance finding them again!
A ) an Addams family style modern au. I cannot remember the title, but Lan Wangji enjoyed the taste of Hemlock tea, Wei Wuxian always dressed in gothic clothes, A-Yuan keeps getting possessed, Wen Ning would die temporarily every now and then then, and the reason Lan Wangji went to Yiling in the first place was to find his mother (madam lan is alive in this one).
B ) Young Prince Lan Wangji fled the palace to avoid an arranged marriage, and met an older Wei Wuxian and traveled with him, keeping his identity a secret. Lan Zichen catches up with them after Wangxian have spent the night together (bottom LWJ), and Lan Zhan is taken back to the palace. Wei Wuxian returns to claim his hand, revealing himself as Baoshan Sanren’s heir. Fix ends with them watching their kids play in Lan Zhan’s mother’s garden.
If you can help me find these, I would appreciate it very much!!!! ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ @cullen-blue23

7. Hi. I've been trying to find this Untamed fanfic which I bookmarked but somehow is not in my bookmarked collection anymore! :(. I think it's post-canon but WWX (of course) is injured and LWJ is helping him recover, told from LWJ perspective totally in-character where he has to remind himself to breathe. Once,wj returned to inn room, found WWX gone from the 2nd bed and he tripped over his own feet and was "resigned to the fall". Once he tucked WWX into his bed and sat at his desk to breathe.
FOUND? Always Light My Way by cqlorphan (E, 27k, wangxian, Post-Canon, Getting Together, Friends With Benefits, to lovers, wherein dual cultivation may be counted as a benefit, Jealous WWX, a little bit, Misunderstandings, Mutual Pining, Pining while fucking, angsty sex, Switch WangXian, Bottom LWJ, Service Top LWJ, Topping from the Bottom, Orgasm Delay/Denial, Coming Untouched, Dom/sub Undertones, the angsty sex happens in the beginning but they get past it dw, Oblivious LWJ, archer wwx, Smart WWX, Porn with Feelings, probably at least half of this fic is just that, Panic Attacks, Angst with a Happy Ending, Dual Cultivation)

8. thank you again for this wonderful blog! loading up on fics for my next offline trip and i have one that is driving me nuts. I remember seeing the reference here awhile back but for some idiot reason didn't bookmark it. What I remember is something like this : its after canon - Wei Ying is back, its after Guanyin's temple - but Lan Zhan has a soulmate to get back to so leaves Wei Ying alone on the road. that scene in Untamed haunted me. does this ring any bells? appreciate any help!! @oldoni

9. Hello! Please help me find this fic. I don’t remember much, but there was an OC lan elder, who is rescued or helped by Wei Wuxian. I am not sure but Wei Ying didn’t know he was a lan or something. Later on they meet again and elder favours or helps him. I am sorry for being vague, but this is what I remember. It would be great if somebody knows what this fic may be !
Hello, this is requester for number 9. I am really grateful for the person who replied but unfortunately I don’t think that it is the fic I am looking for. As far as I remember wasn’t QHJ, rather an OC lan elder. However I really love the suggestion and enjoyed the fic, so thank you for that!

11. Hiii! I don't remember much except for the first few chapters, but the fic was really long. I think the plot started off as "What if the Incident in Qiongdi Path never happened?"
The first chapter or so takes place at Jin Lings one month celebration
Wei Wuxian is really damn depressed the whole time (he's really damn depressed the whole fic actually)
Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan never die. Yanli wants to spend time with Wei Wuxian and she makes some soup, but he gets spooked at some point and Wen Ning helps him run away back to the Burial Mounds???
At some point later on in the fic, Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli go to Cloud Recesses and they bring some food for Wangxian.

13. Hi! 🤗
I'm looking for two fics:
A) A fic where WQ makes a second operation with WWX and JC. The only thing I remember is that WWX is really in a bad condition and they ask JC to give the half of the golden core to WWX. He accepts.
B) I'm not sure if it's one o two fics that I'm mixing, but all I remember is that LWJ when he knows about the lost golden core of WWX, decided to make a second golden core inside him to give it to WWX.
Thanks for the wonderful work! 🥰 @wangxiansgirl

14. Im trying to find a fic
It was modern setting and maybe has cultivation still? wwx is a tattoo artist and I believe lwj saw some type dark energy out side his shop. So he went in and ending up saying he wanted a tattoo, wwx was who ended up talking to him about it and making him a design. I think it had something to do with bunnies and, then finally when the day came for lwj to get the tattoo. He’s like I’m sorry I never wanted one, wwx gets upset and tells lwj to pay him money in cash for compensation. Lwj does that’s all I can remember I think wwx might have adopted or least helps take care of a -yuan. @zerokogane

This is a short omegaverse wangxia? I think it might’ve been part of a series? where it’s Omega WWX and YZY gets him married off to LWJ where she expects him to be treated badly. Instead bc the Lana treat omegas very well, WWX is happy and content. Meanwhile JYL is jealous that WWX actually got mating bites and equal status bc Jin Zixuan didn’t even do that for her. 16. Sorry to be asking this(fic finder), I really don’t remember how I got to this fic but now I cannot find it but I feel like it probably was here
It’s a fic about how when wwx comes back to life he meets lxc instead of lwj in Mo manor. he asks for lwj and that confirms to lxc that he is wwx and not Mo xuanyu and asks him to go back with him to cloud recesses where he takes care of lwj who couldn’t heal after the 33 leash punishment.
At first wwx doesn’t want lwj to know that it’s him. He brings him bunnies and helps him re learn how to play the guqin(he cannot play it due to his injuries and because he hasn’t practiced since he was punished) lan Yuan helps wwx to learn how to play it and lwj starts being more active
Lxc is happy and let’s wwx go to a small one week vacation but lwj gets worse that week, he also discovers mxy is wwx I think
Tsm for the help🙇‍♀️

I read this quite a while ago, wwx is some sort of courtesan, pretty sure he works in a brothel, lwj is either a cultivator (like in canon) or he's a noble/king smth like that! he meets wwz in the brothel place and I think wwx is pretty sly, MAYBE he's wearing dresses and I'm pretty sure they get married in the end? I think someone in the lan clan is against wwx (either lxc or lqr) and I'm also pretty sure it's a pwp, they might have been conspiring too, it's all very vague! any help would be appreciated thanks!!!

I think in this fix, sizhui revealed that some of the people (madam Yu and others) are listed on lan zhan’s lists. Sizhui also mentions that lan zhan has several lists for different things. Also jinyi called Jin guangshan jin guangshit throughout the whole time they’re there. Thanks

Summary: Wei Wuxian surrenders in Nightless City. Jin Guangshan, knowing that he's coreless and weaponless, organizes a night hunt with 1,000 Jin disciples where Wei Wuxian is the prey. He shouldn't have underestimated Wei Wuxian. Kay's comments: This is the most BAMF Wei Wuxian story out there and I absolutely adore it. He surrenders and has to fight 1000 Jin disciples an then he comes out on top and vanishes. In the meantime, the world changes. The non-linear narrative worked really well in this story and I loved the shifts in perspective as you learn more about what happened after Wei Wuxian surrendered and why he surrendered. There's a second part too, about his return. Excerpt: “A-Xian, please…stop. Just stop,” Jiang Yanli begs, spending the last of her breath gasping out a barely coherent sentence to her little brother. “Okay,” Wei Wuxian says, desperate as always to make her happy. “Okay. If that’s what you want.” He raises his flute to his lips, calming the fierce corpses currently rampaging around Nightless City. Jiang Yanli feels the world going blurry, but forces herself to focus for her brother. Wei Wuxian gently picks her up and passes her to Jiang Cheng, who came running over as soon as he heard her. “A-Yuan,” he says to Jiang Cheng urgently. “Please, Jiang Cheng, A-Yuan–he’s just a child.” Then he backs away, hands at his side, and turns to face the assembled cultivators. “Wei Wuxian!” The sharp voice of Sect Leader Nie. “What is this? Are you surrendering?” Wei Wuxian looks back, once, at Jiang Yanli. No, she wants to say, don’t do it. A-Xian, I came to tell you that I don’t blame you. I know it’s not your fault. I know you would never. Don’t surrender to them, A-Xian, there’s something rotten in the heart of Jinlintai and they’re not interested in justice. But she can’t. She’s losing consciousness in her brother’s arms, and she can do nothing but watch as Wei Wuxian looks away with resolve on his face. She’s never hated herself more for being weak.
pov alternating, non-linear narrative, canon divergence, somebody lives/not everybody dies, angst, hurt/comfort, angst with a happy ending, jiang yanli lives, bamf wei wuxian

The weeks that followed passed in peace, and Wei Ying blossomed in the absence of fear, working with excitement on the commissioned talismans for Jin-furen, using the Jiang siblings’ blood to test his ideas. They were able to resume their quiet afternoons in his studio while he worked on the portrait for Wen-zongzhu, often all four of them, each working independently together. He was relaxed more than he had been since the incident, more lively, and Wangji was glad to see it.
Several juniors approached Wei Ying for help with their forms, impressed by his performance against Su She, and they found in him a willing teacher, one who could diagnose the exact issues interfering with their mastery. Often he recommended exercises that would correct underlying problems like balance or footwork, diagnosing bad habits that had not interfered with more basic forms, but would prevent them from progressing. Always, he made sure to praise the juniors for what they were doing well, and they responded like flowers opening for sunshine.
Wangji had an inkling that he would eventually be teaching formal classes, once he had more fully recovered, having caught Shufu watching the informal lessons more than once. Wei Ying had clearly earned his status of head disciple in Yunmeng Jiang, and he flourished in a teaching role like he was born for it.
Some of those students had given him early gifts for his birthday, always in the form of consumables, which he shared with them but which were helping him continue to gain weight back, and Wangji made note of them as allies to Wei Ying.
Wei Ying often took tea with Lan Tayi, discussing talisman and array ideas with the master as fluently as one himself, and he had delighted in learning and even modifying the talismans that had been used against the conspirators, arguing they could be used to stymie yao during night hunts with a little tweaking. For his part, Lan Tayi seemed happy to distract him with such conversations, consistently bringing extra snacks to pawn off on Wei Ying, who would eat whatever was put on a plate in front of him when thus engaged. Wei Ying was often so excited about the ideas that came from tea that he would tinker with talismans for several hours those afternoons, with resulting in amazingly innovative results.
In truth Wangji understood little of their conversations, but he was happy to see Wei Ying enjoying himself, and that alone was reason to attend. As an added benefit, Jiang Wanyin preferred not to attend these teas and was happy for Lan Tayi to act as chaperone, and Lan Tayi did not frown over them holding hands as though convinced it would harm Wei Ying’s image. After the fight with Su She and the missive sent to all sects, with just enough information to show his beloved’s skill and strength while remaining modest in adherence to the rules, it was increasingly unlikely his status and value would be harmed by small gestures of affection, and Lan Tayi would never gossip.
As expected, multiple sect leaders found excuses to visit the Cloud Recesses following the missive, all looking for information, and they were immediately warned by disciples each time, and were able to stay in private areas of the grounds, whether the Jiang guesthouse, Wei Ying’s studio, the jingshi, or the bunny field. They had as of yet not been disturbed, despite several visiting disciples separating from their groups only to be found where they shouldn’t have been. This stopped when Xiongzhang enlisted several inner disciples and gave them permission to “gossip” with certain agreed-upon details that would assuage the curious visitors, though it frustrated him with its necessity, that people could not leave Wei Ying any privacy.
As his birthday approached, Wei Ying received a package from Nie Huaisang, which included expensive art supplies and a stack of books that made him blush deeply when he opened one, and which he placed in a qiankun pouch.
“For later, after we’re wed,” he told Wangji with a shy smile. “They’re, ah… educational.”
Wangji had known Nie Huaisang for enough years to know he’d sent cutsleeve spring books for their enjoyment, and he couldn’t be upset with it, especially since Wei Ying seemed pleased with the gift. They were not technically against the rules of the Cloud Recesses, so long as they were for educational purposes, and he had no doubt they would be very instructive. He was very willing to find loopholes to rules for Wei Ying’s happiness.
Shufu received a missive from Wen-zongzhu that Wen Qionglin was well enough to travel and they would come to the Cloud Recesses to celebrate Wei
Ying’s birthday in person, asking that it be a surprise for him, and Wangji hoped it would further lift his spirits. The information was easy enough to keep secret, particularly with Wei Ying distracted with his many projects, often shifting between several each day.
Their days had the same basic structure, varying based on Wei Ying’s needs and whims. Wei Ying always started his day with breakfast together at the Jiang guest house, often something Jiang Yanli prepped the night before, and usually involved soup: often pear soup, meant to keep the late fall chill at bay. She rose with him, styled his hair, and ate with them to act as chaperone, though he was certain she slept a bit more after they left. On occasion Jiang Wanyin joined them, but more often he ate later.
Xiongzhang assigned chaperones from a surprisingly long list of volunteers on a sort of schedule, and so they were accompanied by a disciple when they were together at all times. The first chaperone came to the Jiang guest cottage to escort them after breakfast. Their minders were polite and kind, not intruding too much on their time together, something Wangji appreciated.
While Wei Ying was in dizi lessons, Wangji had tea with his uncle and brother and returned for him, and when Wangji was teaching sword forms, both Wei Ying and Jiang Wanyin often chose to accompany him. Some days they went to Caiyi, even. But there were still days where he could tell Wei Ying was less able to handle being around people, and he would prefer to stay in the guest cottage and work on talisman ideas, read, and rest all day, and Wangji and the Jiang siblings coaxed him to do just that.
The day before his birthday seemed to be one such day, and Wei Ying shrugged off their coaxing.
“It’s the shift in weather,” he argued, stubborn. “I just need to move around a bit.”
The chill often bothered Wei Ying, and he was likely to spend much more time indoors when winter fell. To Wangji, the winters in the Cloud Recesses were something of a reminder of the death of his mother, but they were also beautiful and tranquil, and he hoped Wei Ying would enjoy that aspect despite the cold.
“If you’re sure,” Jiang Yanli said, relenting when he nodded.
So they started their day as they normally would, a leisurely breakfast and a chaperoned stroll to his flute lesson, and Wei Ying seemed to push through the malaise without difficulty, chattering on about a new stasis talisman idea he wanted to explore.
Wangji was having tea with Shufu and Xiongzhang, the latter focused on wedding ideas to be discussed with Wei Ying later, when their assigned chaperone rushed in and bowed hastily, and he immediately knew something must be wrong, even before the disciple told them that Lan Mingkai had taken Wei Ying to the infirmary.
Shufu nodded at him, gesturing toward the door immediately, giving him permission he was hardly waiting for. Wangji remembered to murmur a thank you to the disciple as he rushed out, and the disciple, a junior a few years younger than him, nodded and kept talking, giving more details—Wei Ying was unconscious, suddenly passed out—loudly enough for him to hear them until he turned a corner.
Worry consumed him, possibilities popping up despite his best effort not to conjecture—illness, poison, some long-term effect of Yu Zixuan’s attempt on his life, all the worst case scenarios fighting for purchase in his mind as he clutched Bichen hard enough to mark his skin and hurried to the infirmary. They had finally rooted out the saboteurs, but still Wei Ying could find no peace.
He was met by the Jiang siblings, who were also on their way there after being fetched by a servant, their expressions pinched with concern.
The healing staff immediately brought them back to where Wei Ying was being examined, his form still, his robes open, something Wangji hesitated at, but only his chest was bared. A curse mark, like a patch of charred and blackened skin over his heart, immediately confirmed his worse suspicions—that this was an attack—and clearly incensed the Jiang siblings. Jiang Yanli rushed to his side, while Jiang Wanyin loomed protectively.
“The curse is too weak to defeat his core,” the healer assured them, “but it will take time to burn through it.”
Jiang Yanli asked why he had passed out, and the healer assured him it was a reaction to the onset of the curse, though the state of his body as he worked to recover had also played a role. It wasn’t simply recovery from Yu Ziyuan’s abuse, but also his slow wasting afterward, overtaxed already only to be cursed.
“The curse is focused on his body?” Wangji asked, wondering if that detail would narrow down the possibilities.
Shufu and Xiongzhang arrived as he asked the question, and Shufu immediately went to Wei Ying’s side to examine the curse mark, the healer deferring to him.
“That seems likely, but it’s hard to know what the curse is given that he won’t be presenting symptoms,” the healer responded.
“Wen-zongzhu is something of an expert on curses,” Shufu commented as he looked over the curse mark, “so he may be able to identify it.”
“They should arrive later today, and he may even be able to break it,” Xiongzhang said.
Until then nothing could be done but to make Wei Ying comfortable, Wangji knew, hating that he could do nothing. Wei Ying would recover, but he had once again been attacked in Lan care, with little way of determining the perpetrator.
“What about the talisman A-Xian helped create?” Jiang Yanli asked as she fretted over her brother, smoothing his hair. “Could it not be used on the curse to find the caster?”
Shufu shook his head, but looked thoughtful.
“Not as it is. Curses can be cast from some distance, and the talisman has a limit, though Lan Tayi may be able to adapt it. I will speak with him.”
Nothing could be done for Wei Ying immediately, save making him comfortable while his jindan cleansed the resentful energy of the curse, and so he was transferred to a private room in the infirmary, where he looked far too small and still for Wangji’s liking. The healer gave him permission to play Cleansing for him, and he left his side only to fetch his guqin so he could do so, leaving the Jiang siblings to watch over him.
By the time he returned, Jiang Yanli had taken Wei Ying’s hair down from its crown, tying the forehead ribbon around his wrist. She’d had Jiang Wanyin turn him on his side while she braided his hair, likely of the opinion that he would be more comfortable, and he returned as she tied it off with his red ribbon and settled him back beneath the blankets.
Wangji sat nearby to play, letting himself focus on the music to the extent that the world would fall away for a bit, and started with WangXian in the hopes that Wei Ying would hear it and know he was safe, before transitioning into Cleansing. The song would help with the process of removing the resentment, aiding his jindan in burning through the curse, and Wangji hoped it would shorten the process.
Aside from a break when Xiongzhang insisted he eat, Wangji focused on the music, aware that Jiang Yanli left several times to work on the evening meal she hoped Wei Ying would be awake to enjoy, losing himself otherwise until the late afternoon when Wen-zongzhu arrived. With him were Wen Qing and Wen Qionglin, the latter of whom was being pushed in a wheeled chair, which Wen Ruohan had commissioned for his nephew’s comfort.
As Shufu and Xiongzhang led them in, Wen Ruohan nodded a greeting to Lan Wangji, placing a hand on his shoulder to prevent him from rising to bow, before he immediately attended Wei Ying with Wen Qing.
“It will take another two days to filter out the curse,” Wen Qing said after she examined the curse mark.
The idea that Wei Ying could be so still for days, after which it would be ill fortune to celebrate his birthday rankled Wangji, an important milestone in his recovery unmarked, lost because of the interference of another.
“It is no trouble to transfer such a weak curse to myself, and I can fully rebound to the caster to permanently prevent another attempt,” Wen Ruohan offered, his attention on Wen Qionglin, who looked particularly upset by Wei Ying’s condition.
The offer was extremely generous, especially if it was made without expectation of repayment, and would resolve a problem in what would likely be a very public way. Wangji could see Shufu and Xiongzhang wondering what he might want in return.
“I only wish that Wei-gongzi consider swearing brotherhood with my niece and nephew, if he wishes, if he insists upon this being a debt,” the sect leader assured.
Wangji was astonished, seeing that not as a way to repay a debt, but as a way to more formally protect Wei Ying—the Lan sect would protect him as a disciple and Wangji’s betrothed, and the bond of siblinghood with Jiang Yanli and Jiang Wanyin also offered some protection as well as an implied rebuke of Yu Ziyuan, but he had no doubt being the sworn siblings of the beloved niece and nephew of one of the most powerful men in the jianghu was an even more powerful protection, particularly if Wen Ruohan’s rebound killed the caster, as he had implied it would.
Wei Ying, no doubt, would  agree happily, already close to Wen Ning and Wen Qing, the latter having saved his life at Lotus Pier, but he would also see the weight of such a brotherhood and perhaps its offer of safety as a relief, and Wangji would confess to being relieved by it as well.
The Jiang siblings exchanged looks with each other and then with the Wen siblings. Whatever Jiang Yanli saw led her to nod, and she patted Jiang Wanyin’s arm and took over, smoothing her hanfu as she bowed to the Wens, her brother following her lead.
“I know A-Xian will agree. Thank you for helping my didi, Wen-zongzhu.”
Wangji bowed with Shufu and Xiongzhang to offer thanks as well.
Wen Qing supervised her uncle, making him sit while he transferred the curse to himself, and Wangji knew the moment it was done by the way Wei Ying let out a soft sigh. He hadn’t noticed the tension in his future husband’s body as it fought the curse, but it was made clear when his body seemed to unclench and he sank deeper into the bedding.
He still didn’t stir, but Wen Qing assured them that was expected, the curse having strained his system.
“Hundred Holes,” Wen Ruohan murmured, checking the curse mark that was now on his own chest. “His cultivation is not as weak as the caster imagined.”
That particular curse was meant to cause constant pain and to disfigure the victim, as though Wei Ying hadn’t already suffered enough, wasn’t scarred enough.
The Wen sect leader pulled his robes aside, baring his chest, and cut a finger with a small dao-style jade dagger engraved with the sun on its handle and guard, then used his blood to paint an array around the curse mark. Wangji could interpret only a bit of it—that it was meant to rebound—but it was much more intricate, and with blood, much more powerful. Wei Ying would have been fascinated, he knew, and he wondered if Wen-zongzhu would be a good correspondent for him regarding talismans and arrays.
When he was finished, Wen Ruohan inspected his work, then nodded in satisfaction, clearly pleased with the lines of his work.
“When I activate this array, the entirety of the curse will rebound; the caster will face the full force of the curse, and will not survive.”
He stated this casually, as though giving Shufu and Xiongzhang time to protest, knowing how the Lan abhorred killing. Neither did, and Wangji felt a cold sense of relief in their willingness to allow a more permanent solution.
If the body was discovered it would be investigated by a local sect because of the manner of death, and word would ultimately reach Gusu, identifying the culprit. Hopefully such a discovery would prevent a resentful ghost from rising and continuing to target Wei Ying.
Privately, he hoped the caster was someone known to them already, perhaps even Yu-furen, though he doubted Wei Ying would want the guilt he would feel associated with her death with the Jiang siblings.
Truthfully, casting curses from afar didn’t align with Yu-furen’s disposition or weapon of choice, meaning others sought to harm his future husband, and that was perhaps worse for Wei Ying’s mental wellbeing.
Wen Ruohan demonstrated no pageantry, simply activating the array, which seemed to absorb into the curse mark. The spiritual energy in the room seemed to go taut, then snapped out and away from the Cloud Recesses, taking the curse mark with it.
Xiongzhang pointed in that direction, and Wen-zongzhu nodded.
“I will assemble a team of seniors to search in that direction,” Shufu said grimly.
Wangji knew his uncle felt particularly protective of Wei Ying, as he had confessed that he was ashamed of his behavior toward him during the lectures, his dismissal of his bright intellect and undying curiosity. If the culprit’s spirit was resentful, the seniors would handle it before it became a problem.
Wen Qing briefly checked her uncle’s meridians, then shooed him, Shufu, and Xiongzhang to the door, adamant that Wei Ying needed no stress upon waking until she could check him for any lingering effects of the curse, uncaring of rank. She then had Wen Qionglin wheeled to another private room so she could examine him and make sure the travel had not had ill effect, leaving them to settle and wait for Wei Ying to wake.
Jiang Yanli reluctantly left to continue cooking, though she was pleased that Wei Ying would likely be awake to enjoy it, and Jiang Wanyin commented after she left that likely she would cook even more dishes with the intent that the Wen siblings would dine with them.
“If Wei Wuxian is up to it,” he added after a moment, watching his brother’s still face.
There was no telling how Wei Ying would take this most recent attempt to attack him, but Wangji suspected he would meet it with quiet acceptance and try to forget about it as he tried to forget all ills perpetuated against him with varying success. He drew out his guqin again, focused now on playing WangXian, hoping to ensure he woke surrounded by love, that it would comfort him.
Shortly, Wei Ying woke with a start, no warning that he was stirring, babbling about curses and resentful energy and scrabbling at his robes. Jiang Wanyin stopped him, holding both his wrists so he couldn’t hurt himself, sitting in front of him so Wei Ying could see him.
“Deep breaths, A-Xian. You’re safe.”
Jiang Wanyin breathed with him to help him calm, and Wangji started WangXian again, having stopped with a discordant twang when he woke so suddenly. The music seemed to help calm him, his breathing returning to normal.
Wen Qing returned to check the flow of his qi through his dantian, and nodded in satisfaction.
“Uncle transferred the curse and rebounded it,” she said brusquely. “Your body and cultivation are undamaged. The caster will no longer be a threat.”
He blinked up at her, surprised to see her as they had kept the visit secret, though this certainly wasn’t the revelation Wangji had expected.
“I felt it take root, and then just nothing,” Wei Ying murmured hoarsely, prompting Wangji to abandon his guqin and pour a cup of water from an ewer on the bedside table.
“Hundred Holes, far too weak a curse to take hold on someone with as powerful a jindan as yours,” she told him, refilling the cup when it was empty. “Uncle hopes you will swear brotherhood with A-Ning and I during our visit.”
Wei Ying was quiet for a moment, lost in thought, but then he jolted, looking at her hopefully.
“Wen Ning came with you?”
At her nod, he smiled widely, distracted from his ordeal at least temporarily.
“Swearing brotherhood?” he asked, momentarily taken aback at the offer before he smiled again. “Ah, Qing-jie, I knew you liked me! Of course I’ll be your sworn brother. Ningning’s too.”
Wangji suspected that Wei Ying’s focus on the ramifications of the brotherhood was simply masking his reaction to being cursed, and when he glanced at Jiang Wanyin he could see that same suspicion written into his expression.
“You’re ridiculous,” Wen Qing huffed, and something in her demeanor told Wangji she, too, had that worry.
They would have to pay closer attention in the coming days for signs that Wei Ying would benefit from a visit to the mind healers, though Wangji thought he might mention the possibility to Wen Qing in private. Wei Ying’s focus on the good in the situation could be problematic if he did not reach out when he needed support, if he tried to hide his hurts or shut down.
Jiang Yanli’s return served as another distraction, conversation about Wei Ying’s health diverted by her joy at seeing him awake, having been summoned by a disciple sent by Shufu, as well as Wei Ying’s insistence that he was only three years old in the play Wangji had become accustomed to.
When Wen Qionglin was brought into the room, the group naturally expanded, bringing good cheer and laughter to Wei Ying in a way that soothed his worries a bit.
Though Wangji knew the mood was a distraction, it was something his zhiji needed now, and he was more than happy to sit beside him as he basked in the presence of family and soon to be family. All else could wait.
——————
This Wen Ruohan dotes on his niece and nephew, and the combination of Wen Qing’s concern as Wei Wuxian’s doctor and Wen Ning fretting over his best friend’s health and well-being spurred him to act here. His sickly nephew traveled a long way to celebrate Wei Wuxian’s birthday with him, and he’ll be damned if that falls through!
Lan Wangji is concerned in the end that Wei Wuxian might bottle up his feelings about being cursed, causing a setback in his recovery. While Wei Wuxian has learned mindfulness of his own needs, his bad habit of setting them aside for others, ingrained in him by his upbringing, sometimes sabotages him.
Continuing my medical issues, but I just started a promising medication that has so far had amazing results. I’m feeling pretty hopeful.
I spent April Fool’s Day sitting in the ER with a gallstone—took 8 hours to finally get pain relief, and I couldn’t even play games on my cell phone through the pain. Several firsts for me: IV, blown IV, CAT scan, CAT scan with contrast (this blew the IV), and morphine. So I get to be more mindful of what I eat. No more chili cheese nachos, alas.
Thank you all for sticking with me through the slow writing. Please let me know what stood out to you in this chapter!
Happy birthday, Wen Ning!

SO I know I took forever to answer this, but that's only because I'm kind of obsessed with this prompt and ended up with a wildly complex outline that puts the final word count well over 100k. Anyway, thank you for the prompt, I love it a lot, and have just posted chapter 1 of the new fic to A03:

Uncle Jiang wouldn’t look him in the eyes anymore.
The realization only fueled the anxiety that clawed frantically inside him, scraping his heart raw and leaving wounds that stung like fire with every breath. Something had changed. Something drastic, something that left Jiang Fengmian drifting around Lotus Pier as though in mourning and Madam Yu brimming with vindictive pleasure.
“Do…” Jiang Cheng hesitated, cast a quick, wary glance around them before asking in hushed tones, “Do you think my mother has something to do with it?”
Wei Wuxian looked up, eyes sharp, assessing, wondering if Jiang Cheng had also noticed Madam Yu’s glittering stare. If he’d also felt the ominous, bone-deep certainty that she’d had a hand in whatever terrible thing awaited Wei Wuxian the moment his siblings left Lotus Pier.
