Thank u
Rating: M for mature themes.
IDK if this is what you wanted, Nonnie, but I tried.
You first ran into Claire Debella during your junior year of college. Every now and again, a guest speaker would be called on for one of the upper level classes, and you'd come into college with a bunch of early credits, putting you well in range to take that class, even though you shouldn't have been able to take it until senior year. You'd thought, well, it would be nice to hear from people in the actual field more often than not and had set yourself up to take it once your junior year and once your senior year - perhaps more, if you could get your credits to align.
Claire was the first speaker, a Democrat from Connecticut on the campaign trail, stopping to encourage the next generation. To vote, primarily. Especially to vote for her.
Halfway through her speech, she asked a question, something tricky, and while she didn't call on you first, you were the one who had the correct answer. You'd seen it in her eyes then, the glimmer of approval followed by the gentle lift of her lips in the barest hint of a smile that she'd all too quickly suppressed as she continued speaking.
Afterwards, Claire stopped you. "No other student has ever answered that correctly."
"It wasn't hard," you said without thinking. "It follows logic and the patterns of the masses. Any intelligent person should have been able to come up with the answer." You smirked. "Eventually."
Claire gave you a look that you didn't notice and then one that you did, her arms crossing under her chest. "I have an opening on my team."
You glanced up at her. "An internship?"
"Paid."
Your brows raised.
"Experience on the campaign trail will do wonders for you," Claire continued, looking away from you. Or, as you realize later, pretending to do so, not wanting you to catch her at it.
You considered it. You wanted it. But--
"I can't," you said and hating yourself for saying it. "I can't miss that much school--"
"A mentorship, then." Claire's eyes flicked over to you, and as soon as you noticed her gaze, they trailed up to meet your eyes. "Zoom meetings on the trail, in person afterwards. How does that sound?"
You could arrange for that. You could make time. It would help you tremendously in the future, when you started looking for jobs after college, to say you'd been mentored by someone like Claire. Perhaps she would have that opening again next summer and you could be an intern then--
Then you gave her a slight nod. "Sounds good to me."
Claire smiled then, but you didn't notice the darkness in it until much later. "Any intelligent person would have come to that answer eventually." She met your eyes again hungrily. "We'll talk soon."
~
Claire had seemed like a normal mentor. Even more than that, she'd seemed normal over that summer when you did intern for her - and she paid you well above minimum wage, well above maybe what you should have been paid - but that hadn't seemed bad. Or wrong.
Sure, she'd never approved of any of your dates, and usually they broke up with you very, very shortly after being alone with her, but you never put two and two together until later.
Not until after you graduated.
Not until after she gave you a real job.
~
It's an event that maybe you shouldn't have been at.
No, you definitely shouldn't have been there, but Claire invited you. Said you were the best assistant she'd ever had and you deserved to go, so you had. Dressed your best, but still not quite enough to fit in with the other elites around you.
Claire rubbed shoulders with a lot of people given her influence, got invited to a lot of parties. This is just one of them - a birthday party for the not entirely well-esteemed Birdie Jay. Claire assured you she was just an old friend, but you're still not sure.
Still. Standing here among models and fashion elites, you feel...out of place. Like you shouldn't be here.
And it doesn't make you feel any better that Claire is conspicuously not paying you any attention. It's like...like she invited you, but she....
Maybe she hadn't really expected you to come.
So you end up at the open bar, drinking a little too much, feeling like Cinderella might have felt at the ball if she'd stayed past midnight, until one of Claire's other old friends - Jen Barkley, who you'd spent plenty of time with during your internship and who had frequently interrupted your Zoom meetings. Not always with very good reasons.
....
Actually, never with good reason.
If you're honest with yourself, you don't like Jen. But you're drunk, and she's...not quite drunk, actually, but close enough, and if you look at her in just the right light, she almost looks like Claire.
(You will never tell anyone that you find Claire attractive. At least not again. Your old roommate did not approve of your crush. You don't know what happened to her either. She just stopped talking to you after graduation. Which is odd because you'd thought you were really good friends.)
Which is how you end up in one of the hallways off of the main room with Jen's tongue down your throat, and to be honest, she's not that great of a kisser, but she's warm and she's there and you're definitely more than a little bit drunk and--
All of a sudden, Jen stops. You think about asking her why, but then you see the hand on her shoulder and Claire standing behind her with daggers for eyes. It doesn't matter that you're drunk; you swallow hard and find yourself saying, "Sorry, sorry, we shouldn't have," in a slur, avoiding Claire's eyes.
Claire's hand tenses on Jen's shoulder. "Jen, can I talk to you for a minute?" She guides Jen away from you, offers you something that looks halfway between a smile and halfway between bared teeth, and then says, "You should go on home. Drunk isn't a good look on you."
You bite your lower lip and nod.
Except.
You want to apologize to Claire again. You want to know that she isn't going to fire you for being so unprofessional. This might not be a professional event, but Claire invited you, and if you made her look bad, then....
This is why you don't drink at these sorts of things.
So you wait.
And wait.
And wait some more.
And then people start leaving but Claire hasn't shown up again, and you're pretty certain that people can't leave down the hallway where you'd been with Jen, so Claire should be coming back this way. Or should have. And hasn't. Isn't.
Claire's your boss. You should probably go check and make sure she's okay. Not that Jen would do anything to her. Ew, gross, wait, maybe they're together and that's why Jen kept barging in on your Zoom streams while Claire was campaigning. Maybe Claire was mad at Jen because she shouldn't have been making out with you, she should have been with Claire--
All of this you think while you walk down the hallway, checking out every door you find, and then you think you see Claire, so you push open the door and--
Oh.
Oh.
"Claire?"
The room is dark, but you can tell that she's covered in something red and wet and shining, and you're drunk and really hope that isn't blood.
You also hope that isn't a body on the floor in front of her. Really hope that isn't Jen.
Claire turns to you. "You...weren't supposed to see this."
Suddenly, your heart starts beating faster. Claire just killed someone. Claire just killed someone and you walked in on it. Claire is going to kill you.
But before you can make it to the door, Claire is there, a hand on your wrist, and when you open your mouth to scream, she kisses you instead. You still scream, at first, but she muffles you, and then you kind of forget that you're supposed to be screaming because for all that Jen was a bad kisser, Claire is. well. wow. Before you know it, you're kissing her back, and then your hand is in her hair, and then her hair is sticky because blood, and then you're screaming again, but it doesn't last as long this time.
Claire parts just enough to say, "I'm not going to hurt you," and you hate it, but you're drunk, and you believe her. But that doesn't stop your heart from beating fast in your chest. She glares over her shoulder at the body. "Jen knew better than to touch you."
You should ask.
You swallow hard.
You don't ask.

It's been a while since the last time I asked you Shark
But I have a new question:
What do you think about the retellings of JTTW, where Tang Sanzang proves to be able to stand up for himself or that he literally can also fight alongside Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing and even Bai Long Ma/Ao Lie (who lately I've noticed has started to grab more fame and recognition, being more and more dynamic and part of the group than just being a simple background character)?
I think the most famous version of this kind of retellings is "The Westward" (I like the design of that Tang Sanzang)
Tumblr media
PS: It's good to be back
Tumblr media
Oh hey! Good to see you again too @wiings-kwami! And in regards to your question, while I fully appreciate that this is a very inadequate answer I guess that depends on how it's used asdfrweadf. TBH the idea that Tang Sanzang can fight back against or at least somewhat defend himself against yaoguai is a potentially really neat idea! As is in the og classic he is the second most static member of the pilgrim group, and this could provide an opportunity for him to be active and explicitly grown and change instead of regularly acting as the embodiment of the "damsel in distress" trope lol. THAT SAID, I can also easily see this being used to shove the monk into the role of "badass fighter" and keep him a static character that way...I know everyone makes fun of Tang Sanzang for crying and falling off his dragon horse, and while some of this is warranted tbh I feel like a more interesting story could be told by addressing WHY he's crying so much rather than putting him in the opposite direction as a stoic fighter. So at the end of the day and as with any other trope out there, I'd say making Tang Sanzang into a warrior monk is potentially a cool idea, but it's less about him being that and more about how it's executed.

hello so about that pibby umizoomi au. i am very ill about all the different ways bot might interact with the child survivors he comes across during the apocalypse.
would he be incredibly overprotective of them, to the point where he’s getting himself seriously hurt over and over, just to keep these kids safe, and avoid making the same mistakes he made with millie and geo? would he act even more stern and strict so that nothing ever happens to them, or would he be incredibly gentle, or a mix of both? and in this case, how would he feel if he were to fail to protect them again?
would he actively distance himself from younger survivors, since after what happened, he views himself as an unfit person to take care of them - hell, even a threat to their safety - so he would avoid getting attached as much as possible? being a caretaker robot according to your hc, taking care of people may just be part of his nature, so that conflicting with him seeing himself as “dangerous” to them would be really interesting.
and the ways his personality in general might change, too. maybe he thinks that him acting silly and goofy all the time was what led to millie and geo’s deaths, so now he tries to be really serious and hide how he feels. or maybe he’s just sort of shell-shocked, seeming “blank” and acting a lot more like your average cold robot. maybe he even tries to put on a happy face despite everything, and always look on the bright side, while making sure to always be there for everyone as a kind, supportive presence… well, “everyone” excluding himself.
sorry for going Absolutely Insane in your inbox i just love this au and your ideas are So cool. as a bonus how do you think millie and geo even got infected in the first place
I feel like Bot would blame himself for Milli and Geo's infection (idk how they'd have gotten infected in the first place) and would thus become very protective of child survivors. I very much think that he'd refuse to distance himself from people and still put on a happy face because taking care of children is literally what he's made for. He still wants to help as many people as possible and absolutely would get himself hurt over it (much to Shape Bandit's dismay)

I’m betting after the early draft fic about Nan’s meeting with Taylor, when she’s done meeting the party, she half wonders what she’s gotten herself into, and decides not to say anything, if she even cares. Prolly wrong lol
Nan did agree to take "a favor" as payment from a strange child in a bar who she suspected was trying to buy a guide through the mountains to evade the crown. At this point the situation was already surreal enough to get her attention, but she assumed she had control of the situation.
On the one hand, the presence of types like Diana might challenge that slightly. On the other hand, you do have to remember Nan isn't an Untouched Normie who's never seen magic before by any means; she does rob royal tax collectors who have all sorts of state-of-the-art magic wards and such. Her best friend is an apex predator that is only mostly intelligent in the same way humans are. Her son is essentially possessed and this shakes out to about the same as him having an uncommon medical condition.
This is a setting where everybody kind of has it in the back of their head some pretty weird stuff could happen; you might not have grown up in the haunted house that devours all of its occupants every so often but you probably know of it.
So like, this is the first time she's been in company with quite this many demons but she's a bit stubborn to suggest she's out of her depth. Like Nan is kind of the party's resident Normal Person but she's a normal person in a world with its share of both mundane and magical perils that don't stay off your case just because you're normal.

This is the field kit she goes into battle with, and she did personally take out the former owner of that skin.

I do maintain that Deep Cut sees Splatfests as silly little fun games and none of them ultimately cares who wins, and they all have fun with it. However I do also think that Shiver at the very least does tend to think of themself as the ringleader of this circus

"Yeah, Slice him in half!"
Well how can they not oblige such a request? They were going to just slit the bandit's throat with their swing but at Jay's call they switch their angle and slice downward, shoulder to hip. The bandit makes a startled, pained noise as he collapses in two pieces. Not quite perfectly in half, but pretty damn close.
They give Jay a playful salute with their sword and a ;) on their visor.

Hi! your LOTR au seems great! i had a question: if nicky is legolas, who is yusuf. is he gimli in your au? could you talk about it some more or maybe link to something you've posted before?
kinda yep! we talk about this au regularly and extensively in the tog lotr au tag but the masterpost/ask that caused it is here!
for yusuf (because i love talking about him in this au) he's the gimli counterpart as in a dwarf who goes with them, but he's not exactly the same. for the first thing he's not any kind of nobility hes just some guy who andy meets while she's travelling around and hangs out with for a while. so he's with her at the prancing pony when it all kicks off etc. for the second thing he's a bard rather than a warrior (though he does still fight with the rest of them)

My thoughts during “The Sign” [SPOILERS!!!!!]

More thoughts under the cut
So I think most of us can agree that this is the best episode of Bluey so far. It was so emotional and satisfying in ways that are kinda new for Bluey. It answered so many questions while giving us a few new ones. I’ve been waiting for this episode for months and it did not disappoint in any way.
This is just a Chekov’s firing squad of an episode. As in a lot of stuff that was set up in earlier episodes all pay off in this episode. I kinda understand why people love soap operas now lol. I will say that this episode was a tad overwhelming for me in the best way possible. As in I had to pause and rewind every 30 seconds or so so I could emotionally process what was happening before moving forward (but that’s a me thing). There was just so much going on and I’m happy about that.
Now onto individual thoughts about specific things:
The callback to Baby Race (“you took your first steps in that house!”) really got to me because Baby Race was the first episode of Bluey that I watched and it immediately made me fall in love with it so it just got to me.
When Chilli said “Frisky and I came up here as teenagers to…um…think,” my mind started racing immediately with “what the FUCK happened at the Lookout?” “Who hurt Frisky and/or Chilli?” And I’m just so curious about what made Chilli say that line like that but we’ll probably never know what happened.
So yeah that scene at the end when the music was playing and Bandit ripped the sign out of the ground and Chilli tackled him to the ground ABSOLUTELY CHANGED my brain chemistry y’all. I can’t articulate my feelings any more than that.
I know some people were upset that Brandy ended up getting pregnant but I thought it was great for her! I’m happy for her! And I think that even though she got what she wanted in the end doesn’t negate the feelings she had about her infertility earlier. But I think we’re all wondering who the father is and I don’t know if the show really needs to answer that.
The whole message of “we’ll see” in terms of if something is good or bad is such a mature message that I never really thought of like that so I will be taking that philosophy forward in life. Congratulations Bluey, you managed to teach a 22-year-old childless person something new and insightful about life that I don’t think I’ve learned from another show.
I want to know more about what Bob was going through and feeling and why he went to India, but again, we’ll probably never know.
I just love how the wedding photos were beautiful but imperfect. Like of course we’re not perfect and nothing will ever be perfect but it’s beautiful and worth remembering anyway.
So many little jokes and moments were so funny in a mature way (I.e. “are we allowed to do that?” And Nana thinking there was about to be a baby announcement) were just so funny and memorable.
I think some people would say it’s a cop-out to end up not selling the house after building it up for 2 episodes but I don’t know, I think it works. I think Bluey and Bingo learned a valuable lesson and Bandit (and Chilli kinda) learned it’s not always about making their kids lives “perfect” in their eyes. Also I’m just personally glad they didn’t end up selling the house and I also kinda like that it wasn’t entirely their choice to keep it.
On a more serious note I think this episode has some interesting commentary on like gender roles and gender relations in straight relationships. In this episode Chilli and Frisky (both women) have to deal with their male significant others pressuring them to move with them far away from what they know and love. In the end they don’t end up moving and the men didn’t seem to have like malicious or selfish intent with it, they were just kinda basing their choices off their jobs instead of what’s best emotionally for their loved ones. But I think it’s interesting to have this conflict where gender is kinda brought up in a way (“because your husband is making you”). It kinda plays into the traditional idea of like men are the breadwinners and the family has to move with them regardless of what they actually want. And this episode kinda like deconstructs that and says “no, it’s not always about the job or money, it’s also sometimes about connections and emotional attachment.” And I’m not saying that you should never move or whatever, but really weigh your options. I just thought that it was interesting that this episode kinda touched on that.
So yeah that’s kinda the main thoughts I had on this episode if you made it this far thank you for reading my rambles and have a good one!

SKYRIM OC ASKS
I wanted to make a more in-depth and lore-building set of questions for people's Skyrim-specific OCs! This can be used as an ask game, or if you just want to answer them all without waiting for people to ask, have at it!
(Thanks to my good fandom buddies for all the suggestions!)
Which areas of Skyrim do they find most beautiful and most dangerous?
Which cities do they prefer to stay in and why? Which cities to they avoid at all costs?
What are their religious affiliations, and how does their worship (or lack thereof) affect their day-to-day life?
Do they believe the College of Winterhold caused the Great Collapse? If no, what is their theory?
Would they be able to live off the land if they were lost in the wilds of Skyrim? How skilled are they at foraging and hunting?
What is their opinion on Skyrim's "bandit problem"?
Do they regret journeying to Skyrim? Or, if they were born in Skyrim, do they wish they could leave?
What is their favorite kind of food that can only be found in Skyrim?
Do they believe in snow/sky whales?
Are they a part of any factions, guilds, or organizations?
If they are a magic user, what is their favorite school of magic? Do they have a natural talent for magic, or does it require diligence and study?
What are their prejudices? What groups have they come to think of as 'other'? Mages? Nords? Elves? Lollygaggers?
Do they believe the old nordic tales about the Dragonborn? If they are Dragonborn how has their experience differed?
Who is their mentor? Who do they go to most for lessons?
How do they feel about consorting with daedra? Do they collect their artifacts? Are there some they would never interact with vs. some they would consider calling upon?
What are their opinions on the civil war? Do they support a side or leave them to their own devices?
Do they have family? Who doe they consider to be family?
What is their stance on taking a life? Do they kill without a second thought, in the name of a god or daedra, or do they adhere to pacifism?
How are they with money? Do they hoard, or do they spend until their pockets are empty and they have to find work again? Have they saved for any houses?
Can they read?
