@barachiki posted that she’d cherry-picked her fave questions from a long list, and then suggested followers should play along. I one-upped by editing the questions she chose to answer into questions I want to answer. It’s a free-for-all!
What is your name?
Poppy Alexander
How old are you?
Thirty-eighteen
Which part of the world are you from?
New England, USA
When do you predict Tumblr will end?
I’ma say, March, 2021.
What is your favourite noodle?
Soba
Who is your favourite Monkee?
Micky Dolenz. Especially when they became hippies and he let his hair curl.
Fries or chips?
Fries, all the way.
Have you ever stolen anything?
I stole so much money from the piece-of-shit store I managed in my mid-twenties where I was the identified crazy even though the girl working upstairs was a heroin addict, the assistant manager was dealing weed out of the back office, and the staff was drunk or high about 80% of the time. We were all beautiful and cooler-than-thou but what a bunch of losers.
What’s your current YouTube go-to?
That Chapter, Nexpo, Ready to Glare, Primink, and TastingHistory
Favourite 1980s TV series?
I absolutely loved China Beach. I cried alone in my room at the finale.
Best thing you ever borrowed from a library?
Dude, I got Ozzy Osbourne’s Blizzard of Ozz LP from the public library when I was in middle school and while I did not develop into a metalhead. . .it helped. The whole thing just helped.
Have you ever been in a car crash?
Not since I was about 8 or 9? Someone ran a stop sign and t-boned my dad’s 1978ish T-bird, which I tell you were just verrrrry long tanks. We were all fine despite not wearing seat belts (it was a slow speed crash, too).
Optimist or pessimist?
Realist with optimistic tendencies.
The biggest hair mistake you’ve made.
I spent about a year growing out my bright-coloured hair (which at the time was basically my Bettie bangs, face-framing pieces, and some scattered-around-the-crown stuff radiating from my center-part) and bleaching it blonde. WTF was I thinking, blonde.
Greatest achievement personally.
Caring for 20+ foster kiddos. I hope we’ll get back to fostering someday.
Longest-held grudge?
Michael Stipe from REM shoulder-bumped me on a sidewalk in Athens, GA in like 1992 and didn’t say, “Excuse me,” and that’s why he is my nemesis to this very day.
What about those tattoos, any regrets?
I had never heard the term “tramp stamp” when I got my lower back tattooed. I still love my tatt, but I dunno. It’s one of those things that makes me feel bad every time someone calls a lower-back tattoo on a woman a tramp stamp. Also, isn’t that slut-shaming, anyway? It’s tired and over, like calling a tank top a “wife-beater” (or even a “boy-beater” which also isn’t cute). I like all my other tattoos. I wish I had more, but to me it’s like a self-care thing? And I’m allergic to self-care.
Would you call yourself a foodie?
Not really. I’m a pretty adventurous eater, within reason (familiar ingredients made in cool new delicious ways). I love to cook and am good at it, but I’m a home cook, not a chef.
Favorite Musical?
The Who’s Tommy. But that is not to say musicals don’t suck, because they do. Tommy doesn’t because it’s not really a musical! I saw the first touring company after the show opened on Broadway and it was a fucking fantastic show that did justice to the Who’s brilliant rock opera, which coincidentally was the first proper rock music I ever loved.
What is your most commented-on piece of clothing?
"The Husband Did It” t-shirt. Every true crime junkie knows this to be true, but people want to talk about this shirt.
List one of your quirks.
I’m told I eat corn on the cob weird (neither across nor around, but just at random, whichever looks like the next best bite).
Last time you had a meaningful conversation?
Yesterday hub and I had some errands to do (picking up toilets at Lowes! Shipping back a busted, brand new gaming computer!) so we went out for socially-distant lunch; we talked about his career in a way that felt meaningful, since he’s feeling a little bit at a crossroads/stopping place with his creative work (stand-up comedy), that he doesn’t even really miss it now that there’s no gigs (luckily we didn’t actually depend on that income). I told him, “You did [His Name]’s career perfectly.” Which was to say he didn’t land where he may have dreamed he would when he started 25+ years ago, but where he did land was pretty damn good and he can be proud of it.
