Laverne Cox Barbie
She’s here!
Tumblr media
I’ve been anticipating this doll for MONTHS at this point, I nearly cried when I first heard the news that Mattel would be doing a Laverne tribute doll and I just kept waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting to the point where I worried they were cancelling the doll, which would be a very mattel thing to do t b h  But here she is!!!!!  Despite not being pleased with her face in the first leak of the doll, I think she’s actually really lovely irl; the only real issue is that her lips are so similar to her skintone that they completely disappear in most lighting (especially the outer corners of the lipstick) which makes the whole face look completely blank and washed out, whereas with flash you can more clearly see the outline of her lipstick and suddenly she looks like a completely different doll.  I also think the sculpt should’ve had a bit more definition, especially in the cheek area, but overall I think she’s lovely and will be even better with a lip repaint imo. Maybe a bit of shading to bring out the sculpting of her cheeks. I also don’t really love her outfit lol, I like that they tried to go for something versatile but the corset and tulle dress look a bit cheap. The white bodysuit is very well-made, but I wanted something a bit more simple so mine is wearing a ballet leotard lol  I don’t really talk about my transness online at all but I really, truly cannot describe how emotional it is to see this kind of representation in my lifetime, especially from Barbie.  Read more about the launch and Laverne’s involvement here!

“This one is for the mijas & mijos, tias & tios, abuelitas & abuelitos 💕”

Y/n L/n is rarely seen walking the streets in public anymore, but that is changing following her recent breakup  from longtime love Charles Leclerc.
The 12-time Grammy winner was spotted out and about in Rome just one day after her release of her new single, Reckless, which reflects on her past relationship with the formula 1 driver.
Tumblr media
L/n was joined by celebs friends Zendaya, Tom Holland, Sabrina Carpenter, Bella Hadid, and Alexa Demie for a night out at Shari Vari Play House in Vía de' Nari, Italy.
The news of her breakup sent shockwaves on social media. Tweets and memes were made, with fans expressing their disbelief and grief
Rumors had already spread that Leclerc was seeing someone else the last few months of thosr relationship. L/n just made those rumors  official last night as she delivered a tribute to  Leclerc and his new girlfriend Australian Youtuber Lola Ransdell, sending the media to a frenzy.
Tumblr media
The “Karma” hitmaker opted for a dress from Mônot’s SS22 collection, a black dress with cutouts across the chest and stomach, leaving little fabric between L/n’s collarbone and lower waist.
People on twitter are already calling this “Y/n L/n’s Revenge Dress Era” .
"Not @Y/nL/n wearing Y/n’s Version of 'the revenge dress'," one fan posted.
The ultimate revenge dress is, of course, the off-the-shoulder black Christina Stambolian dress that Princess Diana wore while her former husband then-Prince Charles was admitting to an affair with current Queen Consort Camilla.

L/n kicked off her sold-out Eras Tour on March 17, and eagle-eyed fans noticed that Leclerc had been absent from her shows.
In case you're unfamiliar with the lore of YourShipName (portmanteau and couple name of L/n and Leclerc), you probably don't understand the distress caused by the news. For most, Leclerc is not even a household name, but for YourFandomsName, he's the titular Lover.
Tumblr media
via @yourinstagram in a now deleted instagram post
The Midnights singer and  f1 driver started dating in 2016. Fans speculate they met at the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix based on the lyrics of Reputation cut "Dress": "Flashback to when you met me / Your buzzcut and my hair bleached." Because, you guessed it, Leclerc sported a buzzcut and L/n’s hair was bleached.
At a secret session for Reputation, Leclerc reportedly told fans that the single "Gorgeous" was about her "angel boyfriend of one year." Other tracks off of Reputation like “Delicate," "Call It What You Want," and "King Of My Heart" are also thought to be about Leclerc.
Her next album, Lover, is also understood to be about Leclerc with songs like "Paper Rings," "Cornelia Street," "Daylight," and the titular "Lover."
During quarantine the couple started collaborating creatively. Leclerc surpassed his muse status and co-wrote Folklore tracks "Exile" and "Betty,"
Evermore songs "Champagne Problems" and "Coney Island, and most recently, "Sweet Nothing" off Midnights. Other tracks on her most recent three albums canonically about Leclerc include: "Invisible String" and "Peace."
While they opted to remain very private about their romance, the couple was hit with a slew of engagement rumors throughout the course of their ill-fated romance.
"I'm aware people want to know about that side of things," Leclerc told GQ in 2018. "I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people."
L/n briefly touched on the privacy aspect of their relationship in her 2020 documentary, "Miss Americana."
"We decided together we wanted our relationship to be private," she said. "Even though [my public image in 2016] was really horrible, I was happy."
"But I wasn't happy in the way I was trained to be happy. It was happiness without anyone else's input. We were just... happy," the singer added.
The "Lavender Haze" songstress' exes famously include Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Pattinson, Fabian Frankel, Ben Barnes, Harry Styles, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Self intro -to the mairuma fandom.
First I thought I'd make a comprehensive one but it's the fandom I'm highly active in that needs to know me well. - greetings, mairuma. Hello members old and new.
I'm Mimi. My Pronouns - they/she. My favourite colour is rainbow 🌈
It's nothing else, wanted to clarify what my intentions are, why I'm here and what my purpose is. I make long posts on headcanons or write my mairuma reviews. my subject of utmost admiration in the manga is as you probably know - Gaap/Garp Goemon.
Tumblr media
I watched the first season before going into the manga. It was this particular scene that stole my heart. As Jazz puts it, his "pure eyes". From there on I started to hyper-fixate on him.
What I post about him
This is very important. Please read this before following me.
-I post my headcanons about him. I already did a lot and all of them were right. I update everything about him, Starting from the etymology of his name to each and every aspect related to him.
- I love his closest companion Agares Picero too. I post about their bond, how I love it more than any other bond I see in mairuma and so on.
- Fanart about Goemon, Picero
🌟See some of them here in the previous pinned post. Check out my handmade mairuma toys here.
- craft - includes dolls big and small, of Goemon and Picero (in general other characters too) . My main one is as everyone probably knows, this "big giant toy"
Why this big life sized toy?
Tumblr media
ID- Gaap Goemon in his first year uniform
The reason why I made him is simple. It Is the greatest tribute that I can give to my favourite character with the type of skills I have-crafting. I love him so much, just as how Opera San is loved, Azz kun is loved etc. When I love something fictional, I create - with the set of skills I have.
Derkila envisioned a demon world that is happy and peaceful and he created it. Likewise I envisioned a life seeing Goemon everyday without looking at my phone. I could see him whenever I'm home and I can talk to him. When I have tough days at school, talking to this silent listener feels so comforting and it's my favourite character too. That makes it much more effective. He is therapy to me. I'm very attached to my toys and this one is the most important to me and I didn't even buy much items for making him other than the fur cloth. All other items were recycled materials from my home itself.
So when I post how much I love Goemon, that's mostly about the Goemon in the manga. But I also feel extremely comforted by the Goemon beside me. I post about that too.
I post stylish photos of him in various outfits. I loved dress up games and now I just do it outside the screen on my selected dolls, I'm into fashion designing and I have made plenty of outfits for my Barbie collection.
I also made the doll because I can't draw always so it's a matter of time management as well. I could dress him up in his canon outfits, he has his sword too. I then take different photos.
I post a lot in Goemon tags, so if that's annoying to anyone, you can block me forever because as long as I'm here it's one of the main things I do. M!ik is the main fandom I'm in and Goemon is my favourite character so naturally I'll do whatever I can to express it.
So this is about me and what I post about Goemon. If you want to see the gist of my headcanons about him please refer this particular post. 🐙 (Search the key word 'prophecies' and scroll down if link doesn't work)
There's a lot more than that but I need time to find all of the posts. When you're scrolling in the tags and you see dolls and craft work. I'm the one 😬
Self reflection - I not only say "I love Goemon" all the time in my posts, I do headcanons, use my intellect to analyse his character, make fanart and other creative stuff. The soul of Goemon is contained in the manga and I made a big plush, experiment fashion on it and take care of it to show my affection and respect towards that soul.
I also learned things from him. Like - it's important to eat vegetables: from harvest festival.
The importance of a communal gathering: harvest festival.
I hated fish but I saw him having fish and I started to eat it too and my mom is thankful to him.
I nicknamed Goemon samurai Degozaru
Others : Irubaby- Iruma, Clara boo, mairuma mommy- Opera san. Shaxy- lied, aniki- Jazz, beautiful sensei - Ipos ichou, millipede sensei - Marbas March
I'm an Asian. I was born in South India. I can speak in three languages, English, my mother tongue and Hindi: the one priyanka chopra speaks. I play three instruments - trumpet, keyboard and flute. I play badminton.
I'm a Desi, where Bollywood is. I draw and dress up Goemon in Indian style too. I'm one of the very few Indian 🇮🇳 blogs that makes posts in the mairuma fandom and I know that most fans are from other countries. My posts reflect my culture, not always but sometimes everyone may not understand and they misjudge me. You can clarify any doubts with me.
That's all. If you have any questions you can ask me. Thank you 😊

Pieck Finger. Porco Galliard. Marcel Galliard. Pairs Skating. Lifts. Choreography. Figure Skating AU. 1425 words. (ao3.)
The pairs skating team known as Pieck Finger and Porco Galliard were notorious for their intensive practices. Now in their first season as seniors, the amount of time they spent at the rink seemed to double. Lifts had to be practiced, throw jumps had to be landed, and pair spins had to be rotated to the very end.
It helped that Pieck had been skating with Porco since they were thirteen — their familiarity with one another made the hours on the rink or in the weight room more bearable. Nowadays, it was hard for Pieck to imagine skating without her beloved partner by her side, without that instinct to look for him on the ice or anticipate his hands on her hips.
So on a frigid autumn morning, one that caused frost to collect in every corner of the town, Pieck arrived at the rink in the afternoon. It was getting easier for her to balance community college and skating. Porco thought she was insane for attempting to take both on together, but so far she had gotten very good at transitioning into practice mode the second her part-time classes would end.
As a result, Pieck’s mind was focused on her programs as she entered the change room. As she got into her practice clothes, she thought about how she was still struggling with her and Porco’s planned double axel-triple lutz combination. As she walked to the rink she thought about what costumes they would require to perfectly encapsulate the energy of their on-ice tribute to Britney Spears.
And as Pieck stretched, she truly wondered what the world would think of Finger-Galliard if they debuted their Barbie Girl routine at the next international competition.
Nonetheless, Pieck laced up her skates as the other skaters used the rink to their heart’s content.
On one end of the ice she could see Zeke working with Annie, using the harness to help assist her axel. As of lately, she had been determined to finally start training a triple. Weeks ago, one of their rinkmates — an even tinier blonde named Historia Reiss — managed to land a quadruple toe loop and flip against all odds.
Perhaps seeing such a thing had motivated Annie to begin upping the ante on her own jumps. Having to compete with someone nicknamed the “Quad Goddess” could do that to a person.
In the middle of the rink was an ice dance team practicing to the music playing through the speakers. Pieck didn’t know Mikasa Ackerman and Jean Kirschtein personally, but she did know of their skating and how meticulous they were at practice. The amount of times she walked by them in the dance studio had given her insights to their complicated curve lifts and balletic footwork, every move they made could exude both musicality and pure athleticism. Mikasa could effortlessly leap into Jean’s arms and he could just as easily transition her onto his shoulder… while spinning. It was hard to believe that they were still juniors.
Pieck had overheard in the hallway that they were currently concocting something called the “Moulin Rouge Routine” for the upcoming season. She had never seen the movie, but judging by the loving way Jean would look into Mikasa’s eyes as they glided across the ice, Pieck wondered if it had a happy ending.
Meanwhile, the skaters that Pieck was actually concerned with were on the other side of the rink.
Porco had told her that he would be assisting Marcel for the day, as his brother was keen on getting his choreography career started somehow. Marcel had created a short program for a teenage skater named Colt, and in doing so requested that his brother record him performing the routine from an on-ice perspective.
But instead of going over step-sequences or Marcel's killer triple salchow, the Galliard Brothers were doing something a lot less productive and a lot more playful.
Pieck looked over just in time to see Porco raising Marcel over his head, utilizing the familiar hand-to-hand press lift that he had used with her countless times. The expression on Marcel’s face was joyous, astounded, and utterly effervescent. Even with his ability to defy gravity on the ice, he was reaching heights he could barely even dream of.
Pieck couldn’t help but laugh as the Galliards had the time of their lives.
For a slender guy, Porco was very capable of keeping Marcel airborne. Perhaps it helped that he was the taller of the brothers, despite being the younger one. He managed to keep Marcel afloat long enough for Pieck to step on the ice and zip over.
Once she arrived, Porco finally let his brother down as both grinned from ear to ear.
“Hey, Marcel, didn’t we come to an agreement?” Pieck said as she came to a stop. She smiled cheekily at the older — yet shorter — Galliard and playfully wagged her finger at him. “At home he’s your brother, but here he’s my partner?”
Marcel let out a chuckle. “Apologies, Pieck, we just wanted to try something new.”
Porco was laughing along. “Yeah, we’re working on a new move for our next gala!”
“Good to know,” Pieck soon said. She took Porco’s hand, the familiarity of which when mixed with the chill of the rink brought a sense of calmness to her. The way his hand could fit with hers was second nature to her now.
She looked at the elder Galliard playfully. “Anyways… Marcel, you know how it is. You got something else to do, right?”
It was telling of her closeness to the Brothers that she could speak to them in such a way.
They had all been skating since they were barely eight years old, having been put in the same class. Back then Pieck could barely manage a waltz jump and Porco was nowhere near as strong as he was now. During those days, Porco would watch enviously as the boys on the other side of the rink played hockey — being stuck in a figure skating class with his brother and a bunch of girls was not how he wanted to spend his Saturdays. But apparently, Mrs. Galliard insisted that the brothers have a shared class together, as they didn’t have one in school.
Porco only seemed to truly dedicate his time and passion towards the art form once he was paired with Pieck. It had been the suggestion of Zeke that they skate together, as Porco struggled with the jump elements after hitting a growth spurt — unlike Marcel, who was a god-sent prodigy with loops and flips.
Even if the Galliards were skating in different disciplines, Porco made sure to watch Marcel during every competition and vice versa. Fittingly, Pieck was often the one sitting beside him as they watched the elder Galliard dazzle the world with his spins and footwork.
Over the years, their consistent support had bonded Pieck with the brothers, something that had been thankful for from the very start.
When Pieck looked up to meet Marcel’s gaze, he was rubbing the back of his neck and looking to the opposite side of the rink.
“Well, I was gonna show Annie what I cooked up for her short program, but…” he started.
Just as Pieck and Porco looked to their rinkmate, Annie was attempting her triple axel without the harness. Despite falling on her rear end, she was back on her feet immediately. Zeke’s expression remained stern as he gestured for his trainee to try again, something that made Annie glare at him despite obeying his orders.
It was very fortunate that Marcel was a calm, kindly, and patient choreographer in general. Annie was probably going to be thoroughly irked once he came around.
“... she looks a bit stressed,” Marcel finished off.
Pieck rolled her eyes, though a part of her hoped that Zeke wasn’t slightly harder on Annie than he was with her and Porco. Perhaps Annie simply reacted to the coach’s drill sergeant-esque attitude differently.
“While you’re at it, think you can convince Zeke to reconsider our Barbie Girl routine?” Pieck asked sweetly, batting her eyelashes at Marcel for extra measure.
Marcel’s expression remained playful, though slightly defeated. It had not been the first time that Pieck brought up her beloved routine to him.
Porco let out a chuckle as he put his arm around her, a gesture he did quite often. “Not letting that one go, aren’t you?” He playfully tapped her nose with the end of his finger.
“Well, we didn’t spend all that time perfecting our Iron Lotus for nothing!”

festivids recs, part 2
Here with more Festivids recs! There was so much good stuff — I bookmarked fully 1/3 of the collection — but I've narrowed it down to some faves, trying to pick one top choice for fandoms with multiple vids. Here's a very reasonable 25 recs:
The Only Way to See (Amaury Guichon RPF): Did not know I needed a Sondheim vid for the chocolate guy, but I really really did! Such a lovely tribute to creativity.
Le Freak (Barbie): Luv the choice to use disco. Really captured all the fun of the movie and the build to Barbie's existential crisis was A+.
Drink You Sober (Bound): All of the Bound vids were a beautiful bounty. This one is just meltingly sexy.
body (David Cronenberg movies): The platonic essence of a David Cronenberg vid. Repulsive! Attractive! Could not tear my eyes away.
Nothing in My Head (Dropout TV): I am loving ALL the Dropout content (the little question marks in WTFIGO? kill me); this one has terrific timing and is such a great celebration of the ensemble.
Do What I Do (Dungeons & Dragons): All the D&D vids were super fun; Holga's my fave character and I really enjoyed this tribute.
We Can Be Anything (Everything Everywhere All at Once): This song, with its tightrope between nihilism and endless possibility, feels like it was written for this movie.
Anymore (Face/Off): Face/Off vid of my DREAMS. This was made for my sibling and it feels almost like a gift for me too. We were hootin' and hollerin' and both yelled "DOVES!" when there were doves.
if i were a fish (Fire Island): Howie and Noah's friendship was my favorite part of this movie, so love that this focuses on that as much as on the romance. Such a cute song!
Northwest Passage (For All Mankind): If I have one takeaway from FV this year, it's that I need to watch For All Mankind! This space-camp-going due South fan definitely cried a little about this song choice and the epic spacefaring; might be obsessed with Molly just from the two vids I've seen about her.
סיפור הגולם  (The Golem and the Jinni): I haven't read the book yet, but this is a STUNNING example of what you can do with a non-visual source. It's such a love letter to a time and place, too!
How to make a perfect Hanukkah movie... (Hallmark Hanukkah Movies): SO funny. I've only seen one Hallmark Hanukkah movie but you absolutely get the vibe with or without having watched all of them.
I Like That (Janelle Monae RPF): Unapologetically queer and self-loving.
'Til You Hit a Nerve (Knives Out): Great combination of the two films, and the climactic build on "I can't miss" rules.
By Way of Sorrow (Les Mis): I am weak for a Les Mis vid and this one crafts such a wonderful, heartbreaking narrative about all the secret sacrifices and suffering that Cosette's parents went through! Makes me cry like a baby.
Everybody Talks (Much Ado About Nothing): This was a great year for Shakespeare vids. This is my favorite play and I love the combination of all the productions and all the great comedic beats.
No Smoke Without Fire (Poker Face): Cool, funny vid. This song is a TERRIFIC vibe for Poker Face.
Wavin' Flag (Ponyo): All the Ponyo vids were so much fun (and I loved the love for Lisa this year), but this one really warmed my heart.
magnetic (Romeo + Juliet): Super captivating and energetic tribute to Mercutio! Harold Perrineau just killed it in this movie.
Tusk (SIlence of the Lambs): Amazing character study of goddamn hero Clarice Starling.
A Better Son & Waiting for Somebody (Sports Night): Okay, I cheated! You think I'm going to pick one vid about love of my life Dan Rydell?
Ángel (Tár): A precise and chilling vid about my favorite film of 2022. The accent on the vid title is the perfect coup de grace!
Blood in the Cut (Taskmaster RPF): Yessssss weird Alex Horne vids.
King (The Woman King): Was so hoping for vids to this source and this one is just a blast. Great song choice.

Barbie: Filmcraft in a Male Dominated Field
Tumblr media
Greta Gerwig returns with an epic, pink and glittery hit as Barbie takes the cinema world by storm. The American playwright, actor, and now director adds to her impressive repertoire with this beautifully paced, touching tribute to female friendship and strained familial relationships through her newest muse, Barbie. This review contains spoilers for the named movie.
We are introduced to the fictional world of BarbieLand in the expected pastels and glitter and as expected the image of perfection herself, Stereotypical Barbie. She is framed by a diverse group of Barbies of all races and body types, complimenting and celebrating these diverse women and communities rather than using it as a tick-box exercise. Clear thought was exercised in these casting, with each actress filling her role brilliantly and adding new perspectives to Barbie's predicament, such as the calm, collected but feminine nature of Alexandra Shipps' Nobel Prize Winner Barbie, and the cheeky and bouncy nature of Emma Mackey's Barbie. Gerwig's world building is near immaculate; small details such as the lack of any water in BarbieLand (reminiscent of the play-pretend aspect at the core of the doll) to the movements of Ken as he tumbles through the air after his attempt at surfing, as if held by a child and spun around. It is these details that add to the fun and whimsical nature of the film, making its very important message even more prominent and heartwarming.
Barbie, played brilliantly by Margot Robbie, marries the ideal of the naivety and innocence of these children's toys to the headstrong, confident modern woman. She is confident but kind, ever funny, ever glitzy and ever digestible in her stereotypical beauty. Robbie brings a new air into the Barbie that many picture as a "bimbo" figure, as called by Sasha, played by the talented Ariana Greenblatt. Instead of this classic image, she is confident, sexy but not sexualised and most importantly determined to fix whatever is causing her to malfunction.
Upon entering the Real World, Barbie finds that what she took for granted (women holding most positions of power, the lack of sexual harrassment or even talk of sex and her ability to be in charge) have no value here, the opposite of what she thought was true. So, while Barbie experiences catcalling for the first time, and for the first time in her perfectly-packaged life is insulted and belittled, and for the first time feels insecure, Ken is thrilled to find that in the Real World, him being a man means he automatically gets more respect than he did in BarbieLand. In his childish, naive manner, he takes the classic images of masculinity in the United States as Gospel, vowing to bring them back to BarbieLand, stating that "they had it all figured out". As Ken brings back a textbook, Barbified version of the patriarchy back with him to BarbieLand, now the Kendom, Barbie undergoes one of the most touching moments of the movie. Barbie is seen sitting next to an elderly woman, crying and confused on witnessing the human spectrum of emotion. She turns to the elderly woman, presumably for the first time in her existence seeing someone older than her, and tells her she's "so beautiful", to which the elderly woman replies "I know it!". They share a giggle. This pivotal moment shows just how ingrained the hate of aging is in our Western society, and how much of it stems from the patriarchy, something Barbie had not experienced until now. I believe this to be one of the most influential scenes in the entire movie, perfectly summing up Gerwig's critique of modern society and beauty standards, and the fact that due to them and the men who had put them in place, women have no choice but to be pinned against each other.
The deconstruction of the Kendom and the realisation of the Barbies that just by following what Sasha and Gloria (America Ferrera), they could use the same strategy that the human patriarchy developed to oppress women to regain their own rights, to divide and conquer the Kens enough to regain their constitution. As Gloria reveals the double standards that women face under the patriarchy, and how nothing they ever do is enough to be seen as a woman who is also wanted by the system, the Barbies begin to snap out of the haze the Kentriarchy has put them under. Gerwig highlights the importance in female relationships in the fight of these patriarchal systems, and the uplifting and freeing nature of female relationships.
Allan is also a huge part of BarbieLand, drawing ideas of sexuality into these discussions about the patriarchy. Allan, played by Michael Cera, is sensible, panicked and arguably queer. His sensible attitude means he is often a voice of reason within BarbieLand, however this does not mean he is listened to. Seen celebrating with the Barbies upon the reinstating of their constitution to helping them 'deprogram' brainwashed patriarchy Barbies, he is not often involved in any of the political scene of the Kens. Allan sits just on the outskirts of classic masculinity, also something that the new Kendom would seek to oppress or change. Finding kinship with the rest of the Barbies, he stays with them instead, feeling safe in their understanding of prejudice. We see this in real life, with queer youth and adults choosing to band into small, close groups with other minorities to protect themselves.
The Mattel CEOS also serve as a vital part of the story, shown with their performative activism and cash-orientated views, as in their eyes, inspiring women is only worth it if the money comes rolling in with it. Although at some points in the movie it was genuinely difficult to decipher where the CEOs stood on the issues involved within the story, they made for a great commentary on the role of consumerism in the patriarchy, and furthering the beauty standards placed on women.
The final moments of the film show Barbie standing hand in hand with Ruth (Rhea Perlman) as she asks to be human, and experience being a woman in the real world. Ruth comments that she never had the power to control Barbie, just like she could not control her own daughter, Barbara. She remarks that often "mothers stand still so that their daughters can look back and see how far they've come". Gerwig perfectly sums up the sacrifices made by millions of women on the planet, their love and devotion, and the fact that many of them are still just little girls at heart. In a truly touching montage of mother-daughter moments, we see the true power of motherly love, and the bond between a mother and daughter; the power to give the same little girl the life that you never had.
Overall, Barbie is an extraordinary study in films made by women for women, and the use of whimsy, colour and things stereotypically feminine and girly to discuss real world issues which harm and lead to the deaths of thousands of women. It urges us that it is out job to band together, but also that the behaviour of others is not our responsibility. I expected to leave the cinema laughing after roughly two hours of comedy gold, but instead left with a deep appreciation and understanding of my mother and a renewed sense of purpose. Gerwig expertly marries engaging story telling with humour and beautiful visuals for a fantastic viewing experience.

The latest member of the Inspiring Women Collection
The Inspiring Women series pays tribute to courageous women who paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before. Despite facing racial and gender discrimination, Bessie Coleman became the first Black and Native American female aviator. She also became the first Black person to earn an international pilot’s license. Sculpted to her likeness and wearing a traditional olive-green aviator suit, including a “BC”-initialed cap, this collectible Barbie doll honors a high-flying icon.

'Nuclear war is, understandably, a very serious subject – and thus, apt material for Very Serious Director Christopher Nolan in Oppenheimer. You can't blame its stars in Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr (and the rest of the cast, tbh) for doing the complete opposite of the sugar rush in Barbie. Few cheesy grins, fewer bright pink two-pieces, and a zero tolerance policy for peroxide. But that hasn't stopped Murphy and Downey Jr from pulling off a menswear set piece that stands toe-to-toe with any pink fonted T-shirt tribute to Greta Gerwig.
Peaky Blinders alum Murphy, who takes on the lead role of the nicotine-charged godfather of the atomic bomb Robert Oppenheimer, made a rare return to the carpet. And together, the two veteran actors had a little bit of fun with their fits, and doubled-down on the matching. For Downey's tonal fit, it was a deep navy tie with a matching suit and black shirt, and for Murphy, a camel shirt with an identical tie (from Prada). It's simple, and also a razor-sharp set piece for a film that's ostensibly more about big orchestral climaxes than big menswear moves.
And the tie and shirt tag team formula is something that we're seeing a lot more of among their contemporaries. Jeff Goldblum has been doing it, rocking his go-to blush Prada shirts with a matching pink tie on the Asteroid City press tour. Aussie actor Kodi Smit-McPhee wore a pale gold shirt and matching tie to the Prada show in June, while Barry Keoghan wore a cream suit and ivory tie to the SAG Awards earlier this year. Eddie Redmayne wore a full Saint Laurent fit, which featured a crisp white shirt and an oversized white bow tie.
As always, it's trickle down fashionomics from the storied brands. For Valentino's Spring/Summer 2024 collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli sent models down the open-air catwalk white shirt-white tie, burgundy shirt-burgundy tie and grey polo neck-melange grey tie combos. British-Italian label Jordanluca had models wear white office shirts with ivory ties, while Kenzo's striped shirts were complemented by corresponding collegiate ties. At Prada too, matching shirts and ties were the order of the day.
Now, even Oppenheimer is making moves for the trend du jour. See. Very serious stuff.'

2ND BARBIE AS BOWIE AVAILABLE NOW

David Bowie Barbie Doll 2 - Life On Mars?
This Barbie doll models an authentic replica of the bespoke powder-blue suit Bowie wore in the “Life on Mars?” music video, including a foil-printed pin-stripe shirt, statement tie, and platform shoes. Her hairstyle and bold blue eyeshadow are inspired by Bowie’s ‘70s glam era look.
Bowie was a one-man cultural phenomenon for his contributions to music, art, fashion, and film. Our second tribute doll celebrates the 50th anniversary of his classic Hunky Dory, the iconic “Life on Mars?” video, and an outfit forever associated with him.
Designer Linda Kyaw-Merschon and her team re-created this legendary moment in Bowie's history. "It's a tribute to Bowie – his outfit, his makeup, his features – to emulate his essence and make sure it looked like Barbie, but as Bowie," Linda says.
