14. What are five of your favorite ships? (In the rp community or otherwise)
I’m a multi-shipper with a writing degree. If you can convince me that the dynamic between any two characters is legitimate enough for them to be in love, and it does not go against any morals I hold, I will ship it. However, lately, I have a few ships, in particular, I’ve been obsessed with. (In no particular order)
She-Ra ships:
1. Glitra - First off, the trope of Enemies to lovers? THAT’S MY SHIT. And honestly? The thought of Glimmer and Catra putting aside their differences long enough to realize how much they have in common? Ugh. Sign me the FUCK up!!
2. Catrouble - Look- I’m not saying there aren’t any problems with this ship, but it’s very clear that DT is not going to put up with Catra’s BS and is willing to tell her how it is because they care. And that is something Catra values.
3. Double Scorpia - Look- I’m a slut for Rare Pairs. This ship is as rare as they come. But let’s be real, DT may be an asshole, but even they know that Scorpia is babie and they could NEVER do anything to hurt that precious, gorgeous woman.
4. Merfuma - They compliment each other in a lot of ways and I just honestly think they’re really cute. Plus the way they have little spats in the show is cute af
5. Glimmadora - Um. Service Top meets Power Bottom. Plus they’re literally so many different ship tropes. Like Royal/Protector, Best friends to lovers, Queen/knight, etc etc. THAT’S ALSO MY SHIT
Other fandom ships I like:
1. Mozaleri (MOR) I used to be really into the music of Mozart l’Opera Rock (y’know... the french equivalent to Hamilton only it was actually done before Hamilton and the gay undertones are even stronger) but it wasn’t until I watched the entire play that I saw Mozaleri for what it truly is and now I cannot stop thinking about these two fucking long-dead musicians and how much they clearly admired each other.
2.AmberPrice (LIS) I used to be really big into Life is Strange and I even ran a multi-muse blog for the game back when it first started coming out. I didn’t realize how much I related to Chloe until my mom died a few years after the first game. Really helped me get through some things and playing Before the Storm was so important to me. LiS is one of the reasons I pursued a writing degree.
3. Lapidot (SU) I’ve never really been a part of the Steven Universe Fandom but I enjoy Lapis and Peridot’s dynamic and they’re my two favorite characters
4. Nuts n Dolts (RWBY) so when RWBY first came out, I was an OG tumblr blog for it ( @this-will-be-the-gay ) and I roleplayed as Ruby. My two fave ships of the time were whiterose and this one. I never once believed Penny was dead and I was RIGHT FUCK YEAH.
5. Charoix (LWA) I did run a cosplay ask blog for Croix Meredies but it barely got any asks so I didn’t continue but again, one of my fave ship tropes is enemies to lovers and this one is friends to exes/enemies to lovers and that shit? mmmmm delicious.

Pearlapis, and how I got onboard this ship...and off board, then onboard again...
It started with the introduction of Lapis Lazuli. When she demonstrated her hydro-kinetic powers, my mind went crazy.
I had little knowledge on pearls at the time, and still do:
All I know is that they are “accidents” of nature, never meant to exist, but they do...
...and they were made in water.
I was like, “wait, this gem almost looks a lot like Pearl! Are they related!? Sisters, perhaps!?”
Ok, that last part was sorta discredited because gems are rocks.
So, I shipped them, but only for a while.
At the time, I was a Pearlnet shipper, figured that ship was going great. And I thought I’d never see Lapis again when she left for homeworld.
Plus, I think there was barely any fanarts and fanfics of Pearlapis so I thought, why bother?
I had to face the truth that Garnet was fine on her own so I kinda stopped with Pearlnet.
Then Peridot came along. I was a brief Lapidot shipper as well. Only briefly.
Forgive me for saying so, but when Peridot reformed after being poofed and was actually tiny without her limb enhancers, that began my leaving of the Lapidot ship.
I know, please forgive me.
Now, I just see Lapis as the big emo sister and Peridot as the little annoying sister. Plus, I kinda ship Amedot a little.
So I looked back between Pearl and Lapis Lazuli. Some time passed and there was a decent amount of fanfics and fanarts. What solidified this ship for me was the arts of Steamboat-Itchy and Waterbirdmoms.
I can’t stop seeing the similarities and parallels between these two gems.
And yet, THEY HAVE NOT INTERACTED!
I mean, sure all we got was
“Oh, where are my manners?”
“Oh, thank you, Lapis.”
And that’s it.
There are so many questions I still have!
But, I’ll save that for another post. For now, it’s Pearlapis Appreciation Day.
I love these two to death!
They are so close together, yet so far apart.
It’s like they’re “cousins” or something.😉to reference Sailor Moon.
Here’s to the self-proclaimed Seashore ship...🥂🍾

Angel AU [Aka me reading too much Neil Gaiman]
[[the quotes used are from Niel Gaiman I did not write them, thought they’d just sound nice in this Lapidot AU]]
[They were on the rooftop of Lapis’s apartment building. Lapis silently looking out to the city and stayed even as it started to rain, she had a lot on her mind lately, most prominently the blonde haired angel that had barreled into her life just a few months ago.]
[She found out that Peridot had been temporarily assigned to Steven a Nephalim child, when his usual guardians were out on some business. Lapis was just the human that babysat him when Greg his dad couldn’t be around to take care of him. At the time Lapis’s life was slowly falling apart. No job, except well watching Steven when needed, no family or friends to support her, a college drop out, just got out of an abusive relationship, she would have been homeless if Greg hadn’t let her stay in one of his studios]
[Then Peridot came along. Steven had introduced her as one of his cousins, though there really was no family resemblance at all, that and Peridot acted like such a huge snobby bitch that it was impossible she was related to Steven at all. The fact that during the introduction she was wearing a white suit that just screamed arrogant pompous ass did not help. It was hate at first sight.]
[The next few months however, even after her assignment with Steven was done, the blonde angel would fly in to annoy her every now and then. “Steven asked I look out for you” she said in that annoying nasally voice]
[While that was sweet of Steven and really so like him, it wasn’t needed. Or so she thought. Peridot had spent most of her days with Lapis ever since and was sort of a psuedo guardian angel to her by the time the first month was over.]
[Peridot would remind her to eat, sometimes brought her food, woke her up when she overslept, she even managed to land a job thanks to her and when the nightmares came, the blonde was always there in heartbeat to chase them away.]
[And Lapis… Lapis was ashamed and scared to admit that she actually loved the company. Loved that someone was there that seemed to give a damn about her. Even though they were just asked to do so. She didn’t want to get any close, not this time and not again. She didn’t want to let anyone in anymore… but Peridot]
[The angel had easily wormed her way into Lapis’s heart, had somehow found a way in and Lapis wasn’t sure if she wanted her to leave. She had gotten attached, she was probably falling in love and that was dangerous for someone like her. ]
[Again she had closed herself off, from both Steven and Peridot, no matter what they tried to do she refused to talk refused to even be anywhere near either of them.]
[Peridot had finally confronted her about it and like always Lapis had lashed out]
Peridot: Lapis were all worried, as much as you find it hard to believe we care about you, I care about you!
Lapis: [she looks away] I… know… believe me I know…
Peridot: then why are you shutting yourself off from everyone!?
Lapis: BECAUSE I DON’T WANT TO GET CLOSE TO ANY OF YOU! I’M NOT LETTING ANYONE IN, NOT AGAIN!
Peridot: Lapis… [she tries to reach out to her but pulls back her hand when Lapis flinches away] Lapis, I know… I’ve seen and Lapis, I promise none of us will ever hurt you the way they did.
Lapis: You don’t know that.
Lapis: [she looks at Peridot] You once told me you didn’t know a lot about love. Well let me tell you then what it is. Its horrible. It makes you vulnerable. It opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess it up.
[she grips her chest and is now glaring at Peridot, as if she was the one to cause all this and in truth a part of Lapis did blame her for feeling this way.] You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life… You give them a piece of you.
[she looks away, trying not to cry] They didn’t ask for it. They just did something dumb one day and, like smile at you, care about you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore. Love… love gets inside you, it eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase or word like “maybe we should just be friends” or “goodbye” turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart.
Peridot: [quietly stands in front of Lapis as the girl poured out all her pain and hurt, wishing she could do something to ease it, to make it go away]
Lapis: and it hurts. Not just in the imagination, not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.
Peridot: [no… no that wasn’t it] Lapis [and she approaches the raven haired girl]
Lapis, its ok and I understand if you’re scared of it [she reaches out to hold one of Lapis’s hands in hers]  but you don’t have to be alone.
Steven, Greg even Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst, they care about you.
Lapis, I-I care a lot about you to I- [she wanted to tell her the truth, but before she could Lapis gently pushes her away and walks out the room]
Peridot: Lapis...
========================================================
Lapis: [was on the rooftop, looking out into the city, paying no mind as the rain completely drenched her from head to toe]
Peridot: You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn’t true. [she approached Lapis, spreading her right wings to shield Lapis from the rain]
I know a lot about love. [she looks up at the sky as the rain fell over them] I’ve seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable.
All those wars. Pain, lies, hate… it made me want to turn away and never look down again, never come back down. [she smiles and looks at Lapis, who still refused to look at her] but when I see the way humans love, you could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful.
And yeah I know love is unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable and at times unbearable, it’s also very easy to mistake for loathing. [she chuckles turning away and looking out into the city] But I also know its unconditional.
I- Lapis… what I’m trying to say is… I think I love you. [her right hand inches closer to Lapis’s left, when she doesn’t feel Lapis flinch away at the contact, she gently takes Lapis’s hand in hers.]
I never imagined I’d know it for myself. My heart… it feels like I can barely contain it. Like it’s trying to escape because it doesn’t belong to me anymore. It belongs to you.
[She looks down at their hands and then at Lapis] And if you wanted it, I wouldn’t ask for anything in exchange, no gifts, no deals or demonstrations of devotion.
Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine.

Steven Universe for Depth Fandom Questions!
Top 5 favourite characters: Stevonnie, Lapis, Steven, Connie and Amethyst
Other characters you like: Peridot, Pearl, Flourite, Sadie, the Cool Kids, Bismuth, Rhodonite and Greg
Least favourite characters: Ronaldo, Jasper, Holly Blue Agate and Aquamarine
Otps: Connverse, Lapidot, Rupphire and the Cool Kids as a poly ship (including Sadie)
Notps: Jaspis and any other Steven ship besides Connverse
Favourite friendships: Steven and Connie’s, Steven and Lapis’s, Amethyst and Pearl’s and Lars’ friendship with the Off-Colors
Favourite family: Steven, the Gems and Greg
Favourite episodes: I guess I’ll pick one from each season for brevity? :P Alone Together, Sworn To The Sword, Alone At Sea, Mindful Education and Reunited.
Favourite season/book/movie: Hmm... I think season 3, although it’s close between seasons 3, 4 and 5
Favourite quotes: Peridot describing her meep morp: ‘It represents the struggles of inner communication. The tape is the ribbon that binds our experience on Earth together. It has no functional purpose! It just makes me feel bad!” (the way she says that last bit so delightedly kills me), and Steven throwing marshmallows at Peridot and declaring “This is life for you now! Endless suffering!”
Best musical moment: Here Comes A Thought, I do love Mr Greg but that song hits me even harder than all the songs from that episode tbh
Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: Steven and Connie making up in Kevin Party (I know that episode had its flaws but I was so happy to see them make up honestly)
When it really disappointed you: Lapis fleeing the moment Steven mentioned the Diamonds in Can’t Go Back, I felt like it sucked that they almost seemed to be abandoning her for the foreseeable future and I was so glad to see her back for Reunited
Saddest moment: Lapis taking the barn and leaving Peridot in Raising The Barn
Most well done character death: Jasper’s corruption (I think it’s the only ‘death’ that counts anyway lol)
Favourite guest star: I don’t think Uzo Aduba counts since Bismuth is back in the regular cast so I guess I’ll go with Nicki Minaj Favourite cast member: I kinda have to say Grace Rolek cause I met her and got an autograph at Birmingham Comic-Con, she was lovely :3
Character you wish was still alive: Can I say Lapis and Peridot since they’re poofed now? If not I guess Centipeetle
One thing you hope really happens: I would love so much to see another full-on Crystal Temps episode, maybe with a special intro or something
Most shocking twist: The Pink Diamond one, I’m still barely over it tbh
When did you start watching/reading?: Early Summer 2016
Best animal/creature: I would die for Cat Steven
Favourite location: the Jungle Moon I think
Trope you wish they would stop using: I feel like it’d be nice if the show didn’t make everyone redeemable, I don’t mind the lead on from Reunited because I do think the Diamonds turning against Homeworld could be really interesting, but I feel like much as kids need to learn respect and tolerance they also need to learn some people won’t respect you no matter how nice you are to them
One thing this show/book/film does better than others: Showing the importance of consent, communication and mutual trust in friendships and relationships
Funniest moments: The meep morp quote I mentioned before
Couple you would like to see: If Lapidot becomes canon I would go nuts
Actor/Actress you want to join the cast: Hmm... maybe some well-known voice actresses like Tara Strong or Kristen Schaal voicing fusions would be cool
Favourite outfit: Lapis’s or all of Connie’s and Stevonnie’s (I can’t choose between them aidsfdsh)
Favourite item: Ik it’s cliche but Cookie Cats, if they were a real food I’d eat them all the time honestly
Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?: A few of the books, a postcard book, all the Pops except the Pink Diamond and Stevonnie ones (I WANT THE LATTER SO MUCH), all the blind box figures except one of the Garnets, Onion and Peridot, the Steven, Connie, Amethyst and Peridot blind bag figures and the Australian DVD box sets (because I love having DVDs of the shows I like and my PC works with all regions)
What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?: I feel like I’d want to hang out with Sadie tbh, she’s kinda dorky and cute and the sort of person I like being friends with irl. Gem stuff is cool but I’m too much of a wuss for it :P
Most boring plotline: Gem Drill wasn’t great imo, the buildup was fun more for seeing Peridot’s big redemption than the actual Cluster and the climax was kinda sneezed at us
Most laughably bad moment: Idk if it’s very laughable but most of the Ronaldo stuff (I actually remember liking Rising Tides, Crashing Skies though)
Best flashback/flashfoward if any: Hmm... either We Need To Talk or The Answer, I think
Most layered character: Torn between Amethyst, Pearl, Steven and Lapis, but I’m inclined to say Lapis cause she’s had the biggest arc proportional to her screentime
Most one dimensional character: Ronaldo, I don’t think there’s any argument here
Scariest moment: Lapis and Jasper fusing at the end of Jail Break was haunting as hell
Grossest moment: The Human Zoo’s machine stripping Steven in Gem Heist :/Best looking male: I think Lars tbh, although young Greg is cute as hell too
Best looking female: Amethyst is the one I find most attractive, but Lapis is very pretty
Who you’re crushing on (if any): Amethyst tbh
Favourite cast moment: Those vines Zach, Deedee, Jennifer and Michaela did with Thomas Sanders were amazing XD
Favourite transportation: Lion
Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise): the Jungle Moon was gorgeous, although the bit where the Gems all line up to take on Blue Diamond in Reunited was amazing too
Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you: Much as I love Mindful Education to bits, I do find Connie’s ‘fighting instincts kicking in at school’ kinda weird, and think it would’ve been better if she’d just had a fight with her parents since that’s kinda more relatable.
Best promo: Probably the Lars of the Stars preview from SDCC last year, that got me super hyped for that episode half a year before it aired!
At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: I think the moment I went from liking this show to realizing I absolutely love this show was probably Alone Together. That episode is just so nuanced, has so many great moments and lines, and has some of the smartest symbolism SU has ever done, that it really endeared me to it.
Thanks for asking Bia! Sorry I took a while with all the questions :3

The whole point of Lapis Lazuli: A Brief Analysis of the Lapis Lazuli Fandom
Lapis Lazuli is one of the most popular characters of the critically acclaimed TV show Steven Universe. And for good reason. She is a very complex character whose origins are still shrouded in mystery. We don’t know much about her other than the fact she has been through so much heartache in her life. For some of us including myself, we can relate to Lapis very much. She is perhaps a great character to use in children’s media when discussing about depression, people with PTSD, how sometimes the abused can become the abuser, and more importantly why it is not okay to wallow in one’s misery. There is more to life than being stuck in the past, which the show again shows how it is not always that easy for some people. Yet as with most popular large fandoms, there is always going to be some rather, well, lousy and often unconstructive criticism among fans. Sometimes it just becomes downright ugly. Steven Universe is no exception. There has been a lot of toxic and hypocritical moments from a fandom (whose show is all about love, peace and healthy relationships bare in mind) that have sprouted about. Most infamous of these are constant hate shippings and silly arguments over which is the best character or the worse. And Lapis Lazuli is no exception.
Lapis Lazuli is one of my favorite characters in the show. In fact, it was actually a few fan art of her that I saw on Tumblr years ago that intrigued me about Steven Universe. She is the reason why got into the show in the first place, back around late 2014-early 2015. From a character design standpoint she is very beautiful, elegant and reminds me a lot in some ways of Nausicaä from Miyazaki’s great manga and film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (which is another character I really love). And her character is pretty complex for a kid’s show. She is a victim of war, being trapped in a mirror and being used for 1000s of years against her well. One can interpret this in two ways: One, in which she is prisoner of war, and the second it is an allegory for rape. She was forced to do things, things she could not have known or understand, her saying “no” to her captors again, and again, yet her oppressors did not listen. Whether it’d be Homeworld or even Pearl. This resulted her being in total distrust of others and she has many episodes of being triggered by painful memories. These are common symptoms of people who have experienced traumatic and forceful events in their lives. Moments where they can not let go of no matter how hard they might try. I know this from personal experience as I have relatives who experience horrific hardships in war and dated two people who were victims of rape in the past. Yet she is also an abuser, someone who needed to inflict pain onto others as a way to release all the pain they had bare. She wants someone to feel how helpless and trap she was during her time in the mirror. Not only that, but she often gets so caught up with her extreme emotions that sometimes she does not realize how much she is hurting that care about her. Again going back to personal experiences I have a dated a Lapis Lazuli, who pretty much made everything one sided and often would do things that caused me pain. She was not a bad a person, but she was also someone that did not realize the pain she was causing because they were so caught up in their minds rightfully so. Lapis is an example of how there are no such black-white matter of people in these kinds of situations, but rather there is a lot of grey area in it. I could go on about her character analysis, but there is already a ton of videos and posts for that already. I want to instead focus how this affects the fandom, more particularly fans such as myself who love Lapis. So think of this as an analysis of a part of the Steven Universe fandom.
You see while some people actually get the whole point of Lapis Lazuli, there are others that have… Well, missed the whole point. For as long as I have been part of the fandom and look into all things Lapis related, I cannot tell you how many comments, posts and videos there are where people seriously and aggressively butted heads. For the people that love and adore Lapis, they argued that she is innocent, she is a victim that does not do well under stress, and wants to help Steven (and later Peridot and Pumpkin). For those who absolutely HATE (and I don’t mean a simple dislike) Lapis, they argued that she is selfish, she did not have to forced fusion with Jasper, she was dick to Peridot for no reason, and does not admit her flaws. Both sides have their valid points and yet ironically this is where they are both wrong. She is not 100% a good character, but she is also not 100% a bad character. Because again, as someone who is a victim of abuse there is gonna be a lot of grey area where she will have good days and bad days. And that is something that flies over people’s heads a lot of the time. The victim’s behavior is complex and their process of recovery hugely depends on the person and the situation at hand. Plus the other thing about this is we are living in a day in an age where people’s opinions can “trigger” someone and that everyone has to be right or wrong, even though an opinion is not a fact. Not only that but is also leads to unconstructive arguments and people being too prideful to see the other point of view. And Lapis is not the only character that gets this, but pretty much any of the gems like Pearl, Peridot, Jasper, Bismuth, Blue Diamond and even Rose have been under fire over these “good character vs. bad character” arguments. All of these characters are complex which makes them even more human and interesting to say the least. Plus you need characters to go astray in order there to be conflict in the plot as well as character development.
Something a bit off tangent, but it does relate to her relationship with the fandom. One that is perhaps most annoying topic, one that should never have gotten out of hand in the first place. And that is the countless amount of anti-ship wars. Oh my God. Why are we getting worked up over the lives of fictional characters, where we should really focus on real-world events. And some of us do, but there is quite a lot who sure have a lot of time on their hands. If you ship Lapis with A, B or C, that is perfectly fine. If it makes you happy than so be it. I mean as much as I love to ship her with Pearl, there is a lot of art of Lapidot and Jaspis that I really like and love. You are not an abusive person if you support Pearlapis, Lapidot and Jaspis (which apparently are considered to be “abusive relationships”, maybe so, but as mentioned these relationships are either grey matter or misunderstanding). That is what makes shipping and fan work fun as you can interpret however you want, or make it something unique from the canon material.
Bottom line Lapis is neither the “worse” nor the “innocent” character. She is an interesting and complex character part of a greater force along with the other characters in the show that make Steven Universe such a wonderful show.

Why Larimar could be the Lapidot fusion
For day three of Lapidot Anniversary Week (prompt: “fusion”), I’m going to be doing some theorising about why I now believe that Larimar will be the Lapidot fusion, based on the properties of the stone and its usage in crystal healing.
(Source:  w w w . crystalvaults . com / crystal-encyclopedia / larimar – please remove the spaces, I’ve written it like this due to issues with posts not appearing in the tags if they contain external links)
“Larimar is the embodiment of the tranquil Sea and Sky energies”
This immediately reminds me of both Lapis and Peridot.  Lapis, of course, has complete control of the sea and she can fly – and Peridot can also fly when she has her limb enhancers (as well as being the pilot of the Hand Ship in Jailbreak).
“It brings the ancient wisdom of Atlantis”
Hi, Peridot!
“Larimar is one of the cardinal Water element stones, yet is born of Fire in its volcanic origins”
Tumblr media
The fact that Larimar has volcanic origins is extremely interesting when you consider that real-life Peridot can be formed in the earth’s mantle (along with Peridotite) – which is something that Peridot herself mentioned in Gem Drill!  We also have the connection to water again as well, making it have relevance to Lapis too.
“Larimar cools tempers and calms fears, relieves stress...”
“Larimar is a crystal of serenity, promoting relaxation in every aspect”
“Larimar is a powerful emotional cleanser and healer, especially for phobias, panic attacks, stress-related imbalances, and excessive anger or fear”
“It helps us moderate aggressiveness and deal with rage”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, it could greatly benefit both Lapis and Peridot.  They’ve both had more than their fair share of stress and fear, and are both prone to exhibiting very bad tempers and/or aggressive behaviour at times (with Peridot’s explosive tantrums, and Lapis’ brooding and often unforgiving rage).
“The more intense the blue and contrast within the [Larimar] stone, the rarer and higher its value”
This jumps out at me for the fact that this principle also applies to real-life Lapis Lazuli.  Incidentally, Lapis in the show also has a Gem that’s pure blue (as opposed to having any pyrite/calcite inclusions)...
“Larimar is a wonderful stone for mothers”
Tumblr media
If you interpret Pumpkin as being the Lapidot “child”, then this certainly takes on some relevancy! Especially considering Peridot’s comment in Gem Harvest about missing the “pitter-patter of full-sized Gem soldiers” (a reference to the expression “hearing the pitter-patter of tiny feet”, which is used when talking about people who are imminently going to have a child) when explaining why she and Lapis decided to grow their field of vegetables in the first place.
“As a soothing Water element stone, Larimar cools hot tempers and guides excessive passion into peace”
Tumblr media
Peridot has generally become much calmer since being around Lapis, and seems much more settled nowadays.  Her passionate side is still there, but it’s very much being used for good and peaceful activities nowadays (such as “meep morp” and vegetable-growing).  Could a fusion into Larimar with Lapis help to further calm her, then?
“Larimar is an excellent stone for finding a soulmate”
Tumblr media
As Peridot and Lapis barely leave each others’ side, I don’t feel like this point needs any explanation.
“It facilitates the healing of unresolved issues or fears, trauma to the heart, or past-life relationships”
Tumblr media
I like the idea that Larimar can help with trauma – considering that Lapis has had a very traumatic life and would appear to be suffering from PTSD and depression as a result of this.  I know the article here is referring to “past-life” relationships, but it could still hold some relevance when you consider the living nightmare in Lapis’ past that was Malachite.
“Larimar assists in identifying self-imposed limitations and self-sabotaging behavior, especially toward martyrdom, and encourages taking control of one's life. It is particularly useful in admitting guilt, when guilty, and in bringing about a sense of peace in truthfulness.”
Tumblr media
Lapis started to express real guilt for her past actions in Alone At Sea (one such action, of course, was effectively martyring herself in order to protect Steven from Jasper - but deliberately hurting Jasper in the process).  There’s a lot of horror in her past that she still needs a helping hand to cope with.  Likewise, I believe that Peridot is also burdened with a lot of guilt for some of her past actions; which is something that she appears to be bottling up.
Therefore, fusing into Larimar could help them both to make peace with themselves and begin to let go of their pasts.
“It aids in breaking down the walls one has built around the heart for defense, and allows for emotional release and the clearing of deep emotional patterns. It helps one to reconnect to a previous, more natural state of playfulness and joyful childlike energy”
Tumblr media
I feel like this also has a lot of relevancy.
Again, Peridot is bottling a lot of things up – and quite often, Lapis appears to be putting up a front in order to hide her inner turmoil.  The pair of them do have a lot of playful energy at times, so Larimar could encourage (and completely embody) this.
“It emanates vivaciousness, humor, and a sense of one's own power”
Tumblr media
Peridot is the definition of vivacious!  She and Lapis also have a shared sense of humour (as seen in Gem Harvest, in particular) – and Lapis wields an insurmountable power over water.
“Light blue crystals [such as Larimar] help us accept the life we have, develop patience, reconcile differences, or seek forgiveness. They're excellent for recovery efforts from addictions or destructive patterns, aid in curbing tempers, and help us become more dependable and cheerful. Light blue crystals also assist in dealing with grief, letting go of the past, and curing guilt”
I really think that this speaks for itself.
“[It] tempers excess, restores calm after a storm, relieves stress, and neutralizes extremes”
Tumblr media
This scene in particular was both a metaphorical and literal “calm after the storm”.
“Larimar also utilizes ... a fresh, welcome energy that moves us to serenity as new growth and life emerges. It brings hope, discovery and balance”
Tumblr media
Much like Lapis and Peridot having a fresh start on Earth, discovering this wonderful new planet together... and even creating new life together.

Society's Broken So Grab Some Glue Ch. 1
First chapter of my new story. It’s lapidot among other ships.
Earbuds were plugged in her ears firmly so as to not fall out too easily, blasting away at full volume a symphony of guitar solos and chaos on a drum set. Beside her on the empty plane seat was a dark blue backpack. It was easy for her to block out the mindless chatter of the world around her as Lapis Lazuli rested her head against the glass window of the plane she was on. She was, to put it plainly, bored out of her mind. Several thousand feet above the ground and currently on a six-hour flight from the west coast, all the way to the east coast and she couldn’t have been in a worse mood about it.
Now, to get one thing straight, Lapis didn’t hate flying. It wasn’t that she was on a plane that was the problem that put her in such a foul mood. In fact, the teenager loved flying and aviation in general. She always dreamed of riding a plane, of piloting one, and had her own fascination with birds because of their freedom to take flight and go where they wanted. But here and now? Well, Lapis wasn’t all that excited for this plane ride and what awaited her once it was done and over. She dreaded it as much as a college student dreaded their finals.
Her personal belongings, what little of them there were, had been packed up and shipped off weeks ago. They should have arrived at her new home already, and if not, they would be in the coming days. All Lapis had taken with her on the plane were a couple of suitcases of clothes and personal essentials, along with miscellaneous things she felt like taking with her on the plane.
She was, without a doubt, still pretty pissed off about the sudden move and what caused it to happen. Three months into the school year in her hometown and now she would be transferring, not just to a new school, but all the way across the country into a whole new town with new faces and new rules. How much more BS could it get?
All because of One. Fucking. Thing.
Lapis scowled as she glared out at the clouds they flew by, feeling a wave of hot anger flush through her body as she thought back to the incident which caused her sudden expulsion and move. Her parents didn’t even try to defend her when she was arrested and taken to court, they couldn’t be bothered to stand up for their daughter when Lapis had been in the right when Lapis was falsely accused and punished for a crime she never committed. They were more than happy to just throw Lapis off onto someone else and wash their hands of her rather than be decent parents, decent people and try to help fix this or even do anything helpful. It just gave her more reason to despise them.
It was no surprise at all that Lapis and her parents didn’t get along at all. Her parents weren’t the most open minded of folks around town, and they really didn’t take it all that well upon learning that they had an openly gay daughter. Certainly didn’t help that Lapis had quite the bad attitude, which she of course blamed on her home life and the passive aggressive tendencies in her family. The bitterness they caused always bled into her social interactions with others and she often lashed out at classmates. As a result, well, she wasn’t all that well-liked at her old school, back in Empire City High, she had gained the nickname “Blue Devil”. The rebel in the stupid, “perfect” prestigious school who caused nothing but trouble wherever she went. Yeah, sure, some of the rumors were just blasphemy spread to soil her reputation by people who didn’t like her, like the one about how she was in a biker gang and dealt drugs at night, but, some of the remarks about her were somewhat true. Lapis could admit that she was far from a perfect angel.
One time she took apart an old car, one of the real old ones, the metal ones rather than the piece of shit plastic ones made nowadays. It was one of the other students, a real jerk of a person and a major bully around the school. She and a couple of other kids tore that car apart and then reassembled it on the roof of the school. The only thing they had left out was the engine since they couldn’t lug something so heavy up the many flights of stairs. Her friend Bismuth did most of the work, the woman could take apart and reassemble nearly anything she got her hands on. Somehow, just somehow they didn’t get caught and, to this day, no one knew who did it.
Lapis grinned a little and held back a small laugh as she remembered the face of the dickwad when he saw his precious muscle car chilling on the school roof. The staff had been completely amazed and confused, and it took hours to get it off from the roof. Then there were all the times that she destroyed the plumbing and just flooded the bathrooms of the school.
But, what had gotten her expelled and kicked across the country wasn’t anything like that. It wasn’t even her doing something wrong. She saved someone!
Her scowl returned.
She had gotten detention, so Lapis had to stay after school a few hours. Nothing new at all there.  Even after getting done with detention, Lapis waited as long as she could before she went home, going to the river to skip rocks and drinking beer. The sun had gone down when she finally decided to go home to the mess was her house.
She kicked empty beer cans on her way home, cutting through downtown, past bars and casinos of the city as she walked. She may have been a little tipsy on her walk, not quite drunk, but not quite sober either. She wouldn’t say that it hindered any of her rational thoughts or actions, she could easily pass a sobriety test if an officer decided to stop her. But, as she walked in the dead of night, where no cars were out and most were asleep, she could catch the sound of sobs and pleas to stop.
Now, let’s just say their states mayor, Marty, wasn’t quite as upstanding of a politician as he may have appeared to be to the press and media. Honestly, Lapis didn’t even recognize the sleazebag as the mayor when she turned the corner and saw him holding, grabbing and yelling at a girl who looked like some local college girl. He was screaming at her to get in his car, trying to force her to do as he said. His intentions were clear.
Well, the girl had been fine in the end. Lapis had run over, grabbed Marty and yanked him off the poor gal. Sure, she was probably pretty traumatized on a psychological and emotional level, but physically she didn’t have a scratch on her. The same couldn’t be said for Mary.
Lapis had whirled around once she got him to let go of the girl and just decked him in his ugly face. She could feel bone crunching under her fist as his nose broke and watched as he hit the ground with blood seeping down his lips and chin.
Someone must have heard the commotion before Lapis arrived because police sirens were in the air before Marty could get up.
It wasn’t any secret that Lapis had a poor reputation, she’d had multiple confrontations with police and authority figures in the past. Never got arrested but had to be picked up by officers and given warnings more times than she could count. She had a reputation for being prone to violence, for mindless violence. Even though what she did was to protect and save someone, the girl wouldn’t even stand up and defend Lapis, wouldn’t tell anyone what really happened that night when Marty used his position as mayor to get Lapis arrested. He claimed that he had simply been having a friendly chat with the girl when Lapis had run over and attacked him out of the blue. Said she was on some kind of drug that probably caused the erratic violent outburst, Lapis wasn’t sure how but he even managed to forge the lab work to back his statement.
Lapis wasn’t angry at the girl she saved; no doubt Marty blackmailed and threatened the girl somehow if she didn’t testify against Lapis when the blue haired teen was dragged into court. Not like he needed too, with or without having her testify, he would have manipulated the court system into ruling Lapis guilty regardless. She wasn’t angry at her, could understand why she would be too scared to tell the truth. She was just… disappointed.
So, Lapis got expelled, there was no way Empire City High was going to let someone who attacked the city’s mayor in their school. Too much of a bad influence, a danger to safety because she might attack someone in school. Bullshit and more bullshit with even more bullshit sprinkled on top. They just didn’t want to risk any damage to their reputation.
Even worse? She was outright arrested. Had to spend a couple weeks in a juvenile detention hall while they figured out what to do with her.
Now she was on probation. Her lawyer and the courts had made some kind of deal that Lapis honestly didn’t give two shits about. But, the point of it all was that she was on probation and if she wasn’t careful she’d be in juvie for a lot longer than two weeks. She even had a criminal record to boot now. To add to that, as she’d already mentioned, she was on her way across the country to a small, unassuming town by the ocean named Beach City where she would be living with her older sister while she attended the local high school.
Lapis wasn’t exactly looking forward to it. She never really saw or talked to her sister all that much, after all, Pearl and she were only related by a shared father and nothing more. They didn’t even grow up with each other, raised in separate states their whole lives with the only interactions the few and far between visits made so Pearl could see her father. Lapis could hardly call Pearl her sister, she was barely more than an acquaintance. Yet, for some reason unfathomable, Pearl had agreed to take in the little sister she had only seen a handful of times, who had a criminal record for violence and drugs. Even though she was likely filled with stories and lies about how much trouble she was bringing on herself by doing this, and how Lapis would undoubtedly just ruin her life, she was still willing to act as Lapis’ legal guardian during all of this.
Well, Lapis had to give her props for that. And, in its own way, it did beat living with her asshole of a mom and dad.
Still, Lapis couldn’t help the hot waves of anger and rage that boiled deep within her for this whole fiasco, for the injustice forced upon her. She did something good, something selfless for once in her life and what was her reward? Expelled. Arrested. Probation. Moving. It left her pissed, bitter and gnashing her teeth together thinking over how she got screwed over for doing something right.
Stupid adults.
Stupid world.
Society was broken. It was broken, manipulated, abused. Those in powers took advantage of what they had to hurt and step on those lower than them. No one did anything about it, no one would ever do anything about it. They turn a blind eye to what happens in favor of saving their own skins. Society was broken and she hated it. Hated it all.
Lapis let out a soft growl as she shook her head, trying to calm herself as her nails dug into the polyester of the seat armrest. She still had about three hours of her flight left and it wasn’t going to do her any good to just be sitting there, simmering with rage and anger when she had no way to release the pent-up feelings while on the plane. So, might as well use the hours left to take a nap, it’d kill some time and maybe calm her down. Besides, she could use the sleep if the bags under her eyes were anything to go by.
Closing her eyes, she continued to block out the world around her as music crept into her ears from her earbuds. It wasn’t easy, but slowly her senses started to dull as sleep crept onto her.
When she opened her eyes up again, everything was blue.
Now, while Lapis may be a fan of the color, as shown by her vibrant blue hair and her usual blue attire, there was a limit to how much blue should be used until it became overkill. She would say that the room she was currently in was very well past overkill. The walls were blue. The rug was blue. The stone floor somehow was blue. Even the lights somehow had a blue tint to them. The only thing in the room not painted blue was the prison bed, the iron bars and—
Wait.
Why was she in a prison cell?!
Lapis threw herself off the bed and onto her feet, almost tripping on the chain around her left ankle that bound her to the cell, but managed to keep herself upright. Taking a look around her cell, she began to approach the iron bars and grasped onto them as she peered into the rest of the room.
It was circular. At least, it looked that way from where she was. There were multiple cells all around, curving around a spacious center room in a circular formation. As it had been already, the ‘main’ room was colored in all blue as well, not including the large brown oak desk in the middle of the room. Lapis couldn’t find any sign of a door to get in or out of the room.
“What is this?” Lapis whispered to herself as she tightened her grip on the bars. She had to blink just to see if she’d wake up, and then again as her eyes widened in surprise. One moment the chair at the desk had been empty, Lapis the only sign of life in this place. The next? A woman was seated at it, staring right at Lapis. “What the, where did—ow!”
Out of nowhere, a riding crop came down hard on the metal bars right above where her fingers were at. Lapis recoiled quickly and stumbled back, cradling her appendages close to her chest as though to protect them as another tall woman came to stand in front of the prison bars, arms held behind her back and a scowl placed firmly over her face.
She was taller than anyone Lapis had ever seen, holding a military like look to her. Her hair was short and cold, her trench coat was gold, her military boots were gold. She was an eyesore of yellow and gold in a room of all blue and stuck out like a sore thumb. Even more, she looked ready and eager to kick Lapis’ ass at her first chance. Lapis found herself rather intimidated by her, not something she’d often admit when meeting others.
“Quiet!” the woman snapped as she hit the bars again with her riding crop. Sparks of electricity danced along the steel at the touch and Lapis was grateful that she wasn’t touching the bars anymore. The woman’s voice echoed in the room, loud, powerful, intimidating. “You’re not to speak until spoken too, inmate!”
Lapis did not like this woman and found herself just a little afraid.
“Please, do restrain yourself, it’ll do no good if you scare our guest away,” the woman at the desk called out, voice gentle and soothing with an undertone of grief that seemed to be permanently etched into her very being. It was a stark contrast to the first woman. She was just as tall as the yellow woman, wearing a long, dark blue dress and a cloak draped over her shoulders. Her face, long and sorrowful was framed by long white hair. Despite the mournful appearance, her eyes were strong, firm, and they locked onto Lapis, the smile on her face not evident in her eyes.
“Welcome, my dear prisoner, to the Velvet Room.”

Homeworld Nightmare
Day 7: Homeworld
@lapidot-week
AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/works/9823307
summary: 2 gems talk about their brief and painful pasts in Homeworld
An Agate stands in front of Peridot and furiously takes out her whip. The green gem is precisely still, while the other gem is incredibly manic. Crack! She strikes Peridot twice after failing to take her commands earnestly, and thus she would trail her orders better. The beat leaves a scratch on her limb enhancers, plus a blemished wound on her body. The green gem shrieks from getting lashed unbearably, but the Agate shuts her up.
“I said get back on that ship you misshaped, good for nothing Peridot!” she orders bossily. “Don’t you let Yellow Diamond down again!” The Agate walks away and proceeds to terrify other gems that needed to forestall.
Peridot glances at the scrape she received, also staring the vast wound on her shoulder. She senses a rather carnal pain varied with fear, but she tries to resist. She picks up her visors that fell when getting whipped, later progressing to dock the hand ship with Jasper for another technical mission.
 Later…
Peridot was standing in the middle of the room where gems were kept prisoners. Jasper angrily enters one of the cells, holding a weapon to shock the gem inside. A loud beat is heard moreover some voltage as Jasper growls crossly to the gem getting dazed. Peridot attempts to take a peek on what was going on. She glimpses inside the cell, spotting a poofed gem held by the resilient jasper’s hands. “That’s what happens when you get on my nerves…” she says gazing at the gemstone.
Peridot gasps with her eyes enlarged, comprehending what terror just occurred. Jasper looks back at her in time. Then the weapon points straight at her.
Suddenly, the green gem wakes up frightfully in the barn.
“AHH!” Peridot screams afraid, jumping out of her slumber to find herself panting. She turns her head at all directions and discovers that she was in the barn. Between her were Lapis and their pumpkin sleeping peacefully. The startled gem moans in relief. It was all just a dream. An awfully bad dream.
Peridot feels a tear running down her face as she breathes solemnly. She wipes the droplet away, but stagnantly feels alarmed.
“Stay calm Peridot…” she utters. “…it wasn’t real”.
At that point, she thinks about the dream even more, causing her to break down slightly.
Lapis awakens from the sound of a trifling lament. She opens her eyes and sees the anguished gem trying to diminish her sobbing. “Peridot…?” she speaks bothered. The ocean gem gets up straightaway and gazes at the whimpering look of Peridot, quickly and severely concerning her.
“Peridot, what’s wrong? What happened?” the ocean gem asks with a rigorously worried expression. The small gem looks back at her, revealing the drops running down her frightened look. Lapis grasps her face and rubs the droplets away.
Peridot sniffs. “Lapis, it happened…” she says.
“I don’t understand…” Lapis says unsure.
“My so called “nightmares”” Peridot explained.
Lapis was known for being traumatized from existing in a mirror for thousands of years as well as fusing into Malachite after many months. But even her petite roommate had distressed memories, many worse than Lapis’.
Peridot’s life as Homeworld gem was more serrated than laidback. Even as a simple technician it was tough since every gem serving their diamond had to take orders. If they didn’t, there would be costs. Cracked, Shattered, whipped, corruption, and anything ruthless would be conveyed upon a gem refusing to comply. But most of that was for the life of a combatant.
Lapis and Peridot woke up an hour before sunrise. Both of them never went back to doze off. They waited for the sunrise to come up by the truck balcony, latent with their pumpkin beside them. Peri’s legs were bound around her arms as she sat and viewing down on nowhere. Lapis perceives her breathing puffing heavily, giving her a sign of how discontent she was from her nightmare. She was surprised that she was not awakened earlier since Peri’s dreams can project through her gem. But whatever she dreamt about made them both feel adverse.
The blue gem sought to comfort Peri the same way she kept her safe, grasping her arm or enfolding her caringly. But she didn’t know if that would ease her the same way. All she could do was wait until Peridot can say what was wrong.
“Lapis…” Peridot speaks still facing below her.
“Yes?” Lapis replies incredulous.
“What was your life like back in Homeworld?” she asks. “I mean like before you were trapped in a mirror.”
Lapis thinks. “I don’t really know…” she answers. “I was trapped for so long that I forgot what Homeworld was like before it advanced.”
She tries to look further back, prompting herself from her timeworn life. “I did remember flying a lot. And everything was beautiful.” She recalls. Her expression forges to being sadden like Peridot. “But that’s about it until I was caught in the gem war”. She remembered every positive memory of Homeworld. Way before she was kept prisoner. “I just wished I could have stayed longer like you…”
“Oh…”
It must have been great for a dominant gem like Lapis to soar around freely without getting attacked as what Peridot thought. But she felt pitiful for her roommate. “Did you have to take any orders at all?” she asks another question.
“I served Blue Diamond. So yeah, sometimes I did.” She answers. “Just wish I could fly that Agate to where she could shut up.”
Apparently she had to take orders from an Agate too. The small gem chuckles a little from the thought.
“So what about you?” Lapis suddenly asks. “What was Homeworld like through those visors of yours?”
Peridot flinches quickly, going back to remembering her nightmare in vivid images. She recollects herself getting whipped, Jasper becoming frightening, but it soon follows to more depraved memories of her following commands when she didn’t want to. It constructs her anxiety all the more extremely, but she attempts to hold it all in.
Another tear spills out of Peridot’s eye as she tenses her clasp around herself. Her eyes squint, still looking down, trying not to weep in front of Lapis. The ocean gem’s expression turns alarmed and instantly rubbing the teardrop away. “Peridot I’m sorry.” She says remorseful. “I shouldn’t have asked that.”
The green gem sighs ill-fated. “It’s fine.” She says. “I just don’t want you to see me like this.”
Her flashbacks stop evoking in her mind like a slideshow. She calms down sooner or later and gathers the reminiscences she needed to explain to Lapis. “I don’t know where to begin Lapis.” she says.
Peridot envisions Homeworld before she left it. Wide, vast, advanced, everything she adapted to. Homeworld was the whole thing she knew and breathed before living on Earth. Hence she was exultant there. But like all other gems, she went to serve Yellow Diamond, becoming a technician all peridots needed be.
“Homeworld was everything to me before all this.” She explains. “I just wished I knew more about it before I served my diamond.”
Her scowl alters as she talks about her origin, but it barely extents into a smile. “I didn’t want to take orders. But I witnessed terrifying things.”
“Like what?” Lapis asks curiously.
“I saw gem corruption, forced fusions, and I was constantly attacked by my agate…” Peridot explains, surprised that she said all that without shedding another tear. “I didn’t want to mind too much at the time. But now that I’m here, I realized I didn’t want to be where I was.”
Lapis listens to her with a miserable shock. She questions if she was crying because she misses Homeworld, or the cruelty she received.
“Both.”
It was strange to think that a cheerful gem like Peridot had a more dappled past than Lapis. The ocean gem suffered more pain conversely. But Peridot grieved more physically than mentally. The green gem felt boundless to tell to Lapis about her pass. They both had another thing to relate to, which was that they both have fracturing memories.
The sun was finally up. Lapis still felt repentant from her roommate and still wanting secure and comfort her. She finally moves behind Peridot, clasping her rolled up body and kissing her on the cheek. “We don’t have to keep talking about this anymore.” Lapis says.
Peridot let’s go of herself, suddenly and slowly feeling eased and inquiring. “They can’t hurt us anymore. And they can’t hurt you.” Lapis utters.
As much as the 2 gems missed Homeworld, there were a lot of things that could come back for them and destroy them. But they didn’t mind or care too much anymore. As long as they weren’t alone.
“It wasn’t real” Peridot thinks. “Thank you Lapis.”

Opinion time: Lapidot is Boring
Disclaimer: This is supposed to be a subjective personal opinion, not the Divine Voice of Truth. This is just what I think and I’m aware of that. I’m not demanding that anyone change their opinion.
So: I don’t care if anyone writes in their fanfics or makes fanart about. It’s none of my business. I most certainly have no problem with wlw (I’m bi myself) and neither does this show (Ruphire, Pearl etc.)
Neither do I really share common complaints about some of the episodes (I liked that Lapis was allowed to be angsty in a non-pretty way and that everyone understood & tried to make her come around gently; Really, she’s always been the angsty one I don’t get why the fandom turned so viciously on her character as a whole)
Thing is, and again, subjective perception, (though this may be what Non-Lauren writers actually intended, a few vaguely shippy frames) I always read those relationships as platonic friendships, especially Amethyst & Peridot, who had this dynamic where Peridot, always a bit of a suckup, tries to get cool with the highest ranking gem and “hang with the cool kids”, (and Amethyst is cool af but could also really use some validation) and then they actually liked each other & had lots in common, jived with their more ‘rough/ edgy’ humor & forged an actual friendship - Like I love both characters and I liked how they became close friends, and how it added to the group dynamics that the three ‘younger’/post-war gems now have this club of their own where they can feel like they belong?
And well, Lapis & Peridot were those hilarious wacky rommates & sorta spiting the homeworld system by being two former enemies turned friends, living in peace & growing past their functions a techie & an aristocrat living together & so far it’s nice for a few gags here & there at the beginning of the episodes before the plot really starts.
But I never really saw the appeal as a couple, though I considered that it might happen & was mostly indifferent to it, though I generally trust the writers to do whatever is best.
But with the fans being obnoxious about it, putting it everywhere & making it hard to find any Peridot fics without it that have like, character analysis, the ship wars and the behind-the scenes drama - It’s particularly the hijacking of someone’s carefully planned project that soured it for me, though I generally liked Lauren’s Episodes, at this point I’m glad that it will not actually be cannon.
(I frankly never saw this supposed Arc including a supposed lovers-to-friends dynamic with Amethyst and hence had no complaints, but if it was supposed to be there it was very badly handled, barely there & kind of seemed to give Amethyst’s character no agency (does she ever turn ‘Dot down formally?) and it just feels shoehoned. I just really liked the “Amethyst gets a friend who can relate to her” plot because she felt so isolated & unwanted in the early seasons, and that’s what I chose to see it as.)
But mostly, and again, subjective opinion its just not interesting.
I guess with Amedot I could maybe kind of understand as they have some commonalities & participated in each other’s character developement (still meh tho, especially to shoehorned varieties), even so I think the friendship scenario is more interesting because their arcs so far showed a lot more longing for social validation more than intimate closeness atm and already have sources of such closeness (in the family kind of sense) - like, sure, they don’t have love interests as of now, but it’s not like they absolutely need one, and if they did give them one I’d rather they did that properly in a way that adds to their characters rather than just slap  characters together for the heck of it.
But Lapidot? Frankly, WHY? Queer relationships, yes, but why snatch those particular characters, other than that they are (or well, in Lapis’ case, were) fan favorites?
Like, for an extreme example - Even Jaspis is more interesting. Not in the sense that I think it will happen or want it to, or remotely think that it resembles anything healthy, but precisely because of the fucked-up-ness and character contrasts involved, it really has potential in an angsty fic kind of way, in things & situations that could be explored.
Lapidot is boring. Not that angst is necessary for a ship or that happiness & wholesomeness is bad (see Rupphire, which is consistently played for maximum wholesomeness and has this as pretty much the point of them but also has plenty of depht, history & coplimentarity)
But, it just doesn’t seem to do anything with the characters. Why those two, what’s the selling point of the romance? What character arcs does it serve, what challenges does it lampshape, what traits do complement each other, what would attract them to each other, what relationship arcs could we do with these two together specifically?
I guess you could have them fuse to show how they overcame their bad experiences/ attitudes toward it, but they don’t need to be a couple for that and that’s not the sort of thing you wanna force or shoehorn especially if they’re sort of playing out this slow & gradual trauma recovery thing with Lapis atm.
The thing is also that it wouldn’t fit with the general style of the show - All the relationships we see, particularly the romantic ones, are planned out from day one and slowly showed to us in tiny bits and puzzle pieces & gradual reveals, and its gradly incorporated into their character arcs.
Like, Rebecca has repeatedly expressed a “tease everything, ship & let ship, they’re all my favs” but with the cannon ship there’s a lot of slow burn long game going on (as there is, really, with ALL plot elements)
In some stories, characters will get stuck together because “They just look cute” and that’ll work fine for those stories but this is not one where you can just shoehorn in a major ship.

Thank you for that post about Lapis in regards to Lapidot, but just in general. I relate a lot to Lapis's slightly unstable, emotional and occasionally dry personality so it's very wounding to see people shit all over her over bare minimum evidence, regardless of the context. Yes, she's done bad stuff, but unlike some other characters *cough* Jasper *cough* she has admitted that OUTLOUD. It takes a great deal of strength to do that and I hate seeing her get crap over it.
No problem!
I decided to bring it back because I’ve noticed that the Lapis Hate Brigade are sneaking back again. I have no problem with differing opinions or anything like that (and there’s nothing whatsoever wrong with healthy debates and/or speculation), but I’m quite defensive of Lapis. And I also don’t like it when people bend the show’s canon to breaking point in order to back up what they’re saying.
Like, it’s completely fine to say “I dislike Lapis”. It’s NOT fine to say “Lapis is faking everything and/or will hurt Peri and betray the Gems lol”. Because there’s no canonical proof of that at all - and it honestly just looks like people burying their heads in the sand. Again.
I respect Lapis a lot - because as you said, she’s acknowledged her shitty behaviour more than once, and she clearly feels bad about it (particularly in relation to Jasper). She clearly has had an awful past and is potentially suffering with depression and/or PTSD, but she never ever uses this as an excuse.
She’s a very complex character, as are many of the others.
I don’t get why some characters are given a free ride on their past actions (Peri…) and other’s aren’t. It’s very unfair.
