Creature 15
Striped beakfish
Tumblr media
Native to the north western Pacific Ocean, these fish eat mostly crabs and other hard shelled creatures. The beak-like mouth is for crunching through their prey’s tough shells.

my pieces for the danmei mermaid zine! these were so much fun, i’m convinced my true calling is just to make simple storybook illustrations lol
the story here is pretty much that a wandering delinquent found the son of a tyrant, who has been living in hiding for years, in a cave making love potions, not knowing that the young master of a prominent family was actually looking for him to prove himself to his family and bring him to justice. songxiao are explorers who do good deeds on the side and were tracking the delinquent until something more promising came up :3c
it’s also just xue yang gets grabbed: the show
please check out the zine, we all worked really hard on it!
[id: two full-color illustrations in a simplified style depicting a few characters from mdzs as merpeople.
the first image takes place near the seabed, where some large rock formations give way to a cave. a red mer-squid somewhat resembling wen chao is poking out of it, grinning gleefully as his squid arms wrap around a somewhat flustered, yet smiling, xue yang. his tail is striped black and white and somewhat resembles a barred knifejaw, but his dorsal fin and overall tail shape allude to a shark. in the foreground, a purple, frilled eel tail swims through a few swaying stalks of seaweed, somewhat menacingly surveying the scene. a small hermit crab can be seen hanging out on a rock in the corner. the scene is bright, with white light breaking through the water and golden flecks painting the image. bubbles rise around it to denote movement.
the second image is more out in the open, with a small school of fish and a group of jellyfish swimming by. it is similarly bright and warm, with light streaking down and dotting the space. xiao xingchen, sporting a light golden tail and a surprised smile, is opening a giant clamshell to show its contents to song lan, who has light blue skin and a dark blue tail. he is smiling wider than ever in joy at what resides within the clamshell: a sleeping, tiny a-qing who resembles a green dumbo octopus. the clamshell rests upon a mossy rock. in the background, xue yang is being apprehended by an angry-looking jiang cheng, his purple eel tail coiling around xue yang as he humorously cries out for help. the bubbles rising in this image are duller in color to reflect a calmer image. /end id]

Animal Crossing Fish Dish Friday - #5
Brought to you by a marine biologist making up for last week...
...by covering 4 dishes that are all the same damn thing.
CLICK HERE FOR THE AC FISH EXPLAINED MASTERPOST!
Carpaccio di...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In ACNH: 1. Simply fish up a (from left to right) a Scallop, a Blue Marlin, a Salmon, or a Barred-Knifejaw to get the recipes. 2. Cook on a stove with the corresponding fish (from left to right) 2 Scallops; 1 Blue Marlin; 1 Salmon; 1 Barred-Knifejaw.
In Real Life: From Italy
Species of choice: Think of this as like, Italian sashimi - it's generally raw fish sliced insanely thinly. You can use any fish you like.
Other Ingredients:
-Olive Oil -Cold toppings you like...
Recipe: This is an appetizer, and there's really nothing to it. Get your fish and slice it really thin while raw (please be careful here - learn how to pick or prepare fish raw), then lay them out and drizzle the olive oil on top. Toppings are your choice, according to ACNH - lemon, salad, basil, lime, etc. look like some of the things ACNH has put on their Carpaccio dishes.
Eating raw fish comes with pros and cons. On one hand, raw fish maintains all of the benefits eating fish provides, particularly more omega 3 fatty acids than cooked fish does (though both options are low in fat and always have a lower carbon footprint than other meat options like beef). The con, however, is that there's always the risk of getting food poisoning or a parasitic infection.
Fish are full of parasites. Many fish - both marine and freshwater - harbor some life stage of a parasite, with many hoping their host fish gets consumed by their final host, like a marine mammal, for example. Many of these parasites remain inactive while at cooler temperatures and begin to react when heated, such as in the stomach of a mammal. Bacteria are relatively the same - they enjoy moist, warm environments to grow uncontrolled. This is why refrigeration was such a boon to humanity. It ensured that food was safe to eat, even days after capture, collection, or purchase and less people got sick from eating spoiled food. However, freezing doesn't *always* kill parasites, which is why cooking fish is the next best thing to keep yourself healthy.

Picture from here with a recipe!
So, why eat raw? Well, there are the benefits listed above, and if you're careful with your preparation - such as buying fresh, keeping fresh fish on ice or freezing it until use, and using clean knives to prepare your food - you can reap those rewards.
I'm not sure how many of you click the links I share, but if you're looking to make carpaccio - or any of the many raw fish dishes from around the world - please click the one above and learn how to lower your chances of getting sick from one of the healthiest proteins money can buy.
And there you have it. Bon appetite!

Mermay 30
Kenny is a bastardous barred knifejaw looking for trouble in the ocean (as if he wasn't enough trouble on land)
I was excited after a few tidbits got revealed in campaign to get to draw him with his secret laser eye and invisible guns! He turned out to be a pretty good ally as long as you don't mind a few valuables going missing here and there 😏
Or maybe your boyfriend 😏😏😏
