Is it possible to make a photoset of Actors who wore a Wig as Monsieur Firmin?
Firmin is one of the characters in the show that the actor playing him use their real (or sometime lack of) hair for the part
I know Craig Bennet and Understudy David Michael Garry wore wigs when they played the role on Broadway
Michael Robert Lowe from the London Production initially wore one for his cover run, but apparently for some reason did not wear it when he official went on for the role.
Now, if you had asked me about André wigs I would have had a lot more to say. I love his flamboyant curls, and some of them are so clearly a wig...! But Firmin... I think my main interest there is the ones doing the awesomely silly "comma curls" as seen in Maria Bjørnson's design:
(depicted above: Richard Hazell in Wst End, Carl Christian Rasmussen and Steen Springborg in Copenhagen, John O'May in the World Tour)
For this look I think they usually feature their own hair, with added sideburns. Anton Rattinger in Hamburg is probably an exception, judging from rehearsal photos VS stage photos:
They never seemed keen on that look on Broadway, or the US in general. They have however done all possible other looks, from bald to horseshoe hairline to spiky hairdo to extravagant stylings. Usually I can't tell if there is a wig involved or not in the latter styles. For example, I didn't know Craig Bennett wore one! But looking closer at his Restaged Tour look, rehearsal look, different Broadway stylings and backstage photos, you are probably right.
I am open for extension or colouring being added to the actor's own hair, but I kinda assume there is a wig involved when Firmin has dark-ish hair with grey bangs. It looks a bit too planned. So yeah, here's Craig Bennett on Broadway:
And Wang Zhiru (?) in Beijing:
ETA: James Borthwick in the World Tour revival 2019-2020 had Firmin's "comma curls" styling, while he in his original run in South Africa and the World Tour 2011-2013 had the Broadway styling with grey bangs. That indicates to me his first look was a wig.
And even if Barry James (West End, RAH) in large is depicted with the "comma curls" it does look like he wigged up a few times. I don't know the context for the wig, but I do know he liked to experiment with his portrayal so maybe that is related. Or did he ever go on as André?
But I am afraid I don't have a complete list for you!

Fanart comic of Barry Allen’s birthday, page 1: Barry is rigid in shock as Iris pushes him towards his surprise birthday party. Along the side are panels of each guest wishing him a happy birthday as bloodied flashbacks play behind them of the moments when Eobard Thawne had murdered them.
Page 2: Panel 1 is a close up shot of Barry with a horrified expression, beset by a red background reminiscent of the bloodied flashbacks. He manages to get out the words: “Thanks… everybody….” Panel 2 is Barry walking away from the guests, touching his face in distress. He says, “Sorry. I’m really glad to see everyone… I just… Just gimme a minute….” One of the guests behind him suggests, “Maybe he’s a little shellshocked?” The red background continues to swarm him. Panel 3 is a closeup of Barry’s face as an off-screen voice says, “Hey, buddy….” His fingers slowly slide off his face as he looks up in its direction.
Page 3: Panel 1 reveals Hal Jordan holding a box and wearing a smile. He says, “Looks like I’m right on time.” The red swarm surrounding Barry doesn’t seem to touch Hal. Panel 2 is Hal handing Barry the box, which contains a model plane, as he says, “Happy birthday, Barry.” Barry takes it in his hands with a worn but blank expression. Panel 3 is much the same with Barry unmoving as he’s processing the exchange. Panel 4 is Barry suddenly giving Hal a fond, sarcastic smile as he says, “Great gift, Hal. I especially liked it when I gave it to you for your birthday two years ago.” The red swarm gradually dissipates from each panel, clearing up entirely in the last one.
Page 4: Simplified doodles of Hal and Barry stand in the large, empty space of the page. Hal has one hand in his pocket and the other gesturing in explanation. His expression is embarrassed but good-humored as he says, “Really? You sure? Uh… Haven’t been home in a long time, so….” Barry responds, “Too long… I’m just happy to see you, buddy.” He holds the gift close to himself with an innocent, close-eyed smile. An arrow points to him, reading: Literally snapped out of it to be a little shit. /end ID
i’ve been obsessed with hadestown for years now and finally got to see it yesterday on the west end, so here is a non-exhaustive, mostly in order list of things i loved:
- hermes ‘aiiiight’ ing the audience at the start
- the fates looking offended when hermes says they’re all dressed the same
- orpheus getting distracted and forgetting to greet the audience as he’s introduced
- irish orpheus and midlands eurydice healed something in me
- the fates all the time always, actually
- persephone and eurydice’s little moment of connection as persephone tells her to take what she can and make the most of it
- the trombonist dancing with the chorus during his solo
- orpheus and the cast looking out to the audience in a beat of silence as they toast the world we live in now
- everybody collectively gagging at the wine
- eurydice pushing orpheus right across the stage as she sings how she wants to hold him tight
- orpheus swooping in and popping up like a meerkat between hades and eurydice when she draws his attention
- hades putting on his dark glasses in order to immediately take them off at eurydice in hey little songbird
- eurydice holding the coins/ticket to hell out to hermes twice during chips are down and hermes only taking them on the third time
- hermes and persephone flirting at the start of act 2
- persephone not sharing her hip flask and hermes acting all offended until she gives them some
- every reference to hermes’ gender is gone
- hermes
- melanie la barrie
- hades’ slutty little strut on the revolve
- the absolute raw grief and anger and desperation in if it’s true, dónal absolutely killed it
- hades dad dancing
- hades burying his face in persephone’s shoulder after they reconcile
- orpheus’ adorable delighted ‘yes!!’ after eurydice tells him he’s done it
- the chorus’s cute af reaction when orpheus ’proposes’ eurydice to walk home with him
- orpheus’ fidgety, reaching hands as he walks and doubts (devastating)
- the centre of the revolve dropping away the MOMENT orpheus turns, almost before he’s actually set eyes on her. she’s already gone
- orpheus’ voice break on eurydice’s name as she vanishes (DEVASTATING)
- orpheus just sobbing by the gaping hole where eurydice’s gone as the theatre is in total silence (SHOOT ME ALREADY)
- the stage being set in the last minutes to match how it was when the show began. we’re really going to sing it again, aren’t we. there’s nothing else to be done
also do NOT get me started on the set and lighting design bc holy shit you guys it was PHENOMENAL. i so want to see it again to look for all the little details i inevitably missed
