I wanna also talk about Bokura no Kiseaki so bad
Another actual masterpiece… you don’t think it’s gonna be when you start but IT IS!
And if I could gather my thoughts enough to talk about it I would but instead I just make parallel posts and gush about my favorite scenes which I’m gonna archive here too
Pretty sure the reason I can read faster is cause of this manga too cause I started when I had Covid being like “ok it’s a group read with my friends I don’t normally join those but this doesn’t seem like it’s gonna hold my attention so I can just start this when I’m sick. I mean after all it’s gonna be an easier read then Basara right?”
Yeaaaa.. no I chose one of the most “you really need to turn on your brain manga’s” like when you start you need a to check a spread sheet (I’m not kidding) of all the characters cause you have to make keep them all in check as long as their past lives. But I promise it gets easier and that’s coming from me. Eventually you don’t need the spread sheet but I do recommend it if your starting.
Anyway I’m babbling this manga is just amazing and on going and please for the love of god give it an anime one day please. SHOW SOME MORE JOSEI LOVE.
Anyway you better believe I’ll be talking about this

idk if it's just the peculiar choices of speech patterns/ pronouns, real life birthdates clashing with appearances in the games, just fun or a mix of this, but there's a few Sengoku Basara characters who I always view as much older than they look.
Kenshin can't be much younger than Shingen. The most mysterious, (not only) age-wise.
Hanbei is not old but definitely older than he looks. Possibly older than Hideyoshi (who I bet is the opposite and appears older than he is). Might even be the senior member of the Toyotomi members we know, but definitely the oldest of the Beis.
Motonari? OLD OKRA who miraculously stayed fresh.

you know what I love about Kanbei is how he just CRIES, and it’s not just a little sniffling but very LOUD and without any restraint.
What makes it even better is that when he does, almost always it is in fact NOT, as you might expect, out of frustration or self-pity about his life or luck being crap or his bad choices - regarding that, he snarks and grumbles and screams and throws tantrums and yes, cries once or twice about that. But you know what truly makes him disintegrate into a loudly sobbing unintelligible mess that has to be dragged from the spot??? When he’s surprised about good things happening and/or experiencing actual support/trust by allies/friends and honestly that is such a MOOD

recently Cara and I talked about old Basara fan memes/posts etc and she mentioned one where I misunderstood it as: "You'd post an audio clip where you answer some questions and people would tell you which Basara character you're most like"
when it was just something like: "tag yourself as the Basara character you relate to most"
now I'm curious how the former would go

Early in Tsuruhime's red route you have a mandatory cutscene after Kanbei's stage where she sees Kotaro again for the first time after he first saved her in her Intro scene, and now he's delivering a letter to Kanbei.
I mean it's pretty much a given that the letter is from Ujimasa but I am still a bit bummed that we never got to know what's in it.

continuing from here, sorry about the formatting but I think tumblr killed the quote-replies functionality...
@dearmadalice
I know like Hideyoshi i don't think is much older thank keiji since they were friends. Can you imagine like some 40 year old guy running around beating people up with like a 22 year old?? nuts.
Considering Sengoku Basara is the defintion of nuts when it comes to beating up people (and ages) and that adding a few years to that gets you exactly what Kanbei and his new found grandpa/bestfriend Ujimasa did in SB3? Yea, I can absolutely imagine that. (that said?? I’m all for inter-generational friendships)
  @genuinefauxthought
On the other end of the spectrum, I always found it funny to think of Shimazu or Tadakatsu as bizarrely young. Shimazu going on and on about handing the country over to the young ones, and it turns out he's in his late 30s, early 40s, at most.
I guess he thinks that if he wants to prepare the crazy youths in Basara for the future he has his work cut out for him. I mean. Just look at them. I don’t even know where I’d place Tadakatsu’s age, mainly because I don’t even know if I view him as entirely human?? It’s another trait he shares with Kotaro, the other super-human (???) who does an exceptional job but doesn’t talk.
  @nekkyousagi
What are even age groups in Basara?! XD No but seriously these all make sense to me! Though I'm kinda reeling from the idea that Mama Hanbei is probably older than Kojuro....OAO
I’m almost certain that’s the case IMO? Where’d you place Kojuro, age-wise? Obviously he’s a few years older than Masamune but I used to think the difference was more, now I think he might not even by in his thirties yet. Having to deal with Bontenmaru/Masamune as his boss he probably just had to mature pretty quickly lol
@kittykittyhunter
Motonari is a CHILD of the Sun.  You can't have a  hold looking like a mouldy okra.
I.... I... I don’t know why this reply just made me think of the Teletubbies, where can I return that mental image please
---
okay that said, do you peeps have any age headcanons that we didn’t touch on yet?

@kittykittyhunter said: Oh boy.  Please give me the AU where Kanbei and Tsuru team up together to stop themselves being manipulated dbdjd
I’d say “create the AU you want to see in the world” but I’ll probably never be fast enough to draw comics which is A SHAME because honestly I can see how that’d be hilarious!?
To be fair, Tsuruhime trusts almost everybody EXCEPT Kanbei, and Kanbei trusts basically nobody UNLESS there’s mention of The Key, but usually he’s the manipulator, not the manipulated... I mean the whole lead up went like this: - Kanbei goes “Huh, maybe I can use her divination powers to my advantage” - he somehow tries to win her as an ally by very directly warning her that people will try to use her powers by taking advantage of her naivete and ignorance - it goes as well as you’d expect, not because she goes “whoa you’re right but what about YOU”, but because she goes “!!! How RUDE!” - RIGHT AFTERWARDS Tsuru gets a letter from Yoshitsugu sweet-talking her into working for him and because he’s “SO NICE” she enthusiastically accepts doing their dirty work and needs like three additional reminders by different people of what Kanbei warned her about right at the beginning before she catches on - THE IRONY. - Kanbei and Tsuruhime meet again at Sekigahara where they immediately start bickering again.
in conclusion, given the chance they could... actually learn a lot from each other?? Like not listening when people are overly polite, mentioning keys, or just. Yoshitsugu.

we played Basara Sumeragi this weekend and the absolute highlight was Kanetsugu (played by Cara) 1HKO-ing BOTH Shingen and Kenshin at once at Kawanakajima

Me, having very minimal knowledge of the japanese language playing Tenkai's Drama Route in Sumeragi with a friend:
Oh! That route split leads to the Maedas! Haha what if he's just going there to get vegetables for Kingo's hotpot? That's extremely likely, isn't it?
Game: shows Tenkai writing a letter to Kingo
Kingo: cries upon reading it
YEAH, TOTALLY GOING FOR GROCERIES!! I love not understanding the language this is in oh wow okay that ending movie was sure... not about veggies
