Willy Adames Imagine

Shortstop

I walked into American Family Field with my duffle bag strapped around my shoulder. Today, was an off day for some of the doctors at the hospital, so our boss decided it would be a good idea to play a game against The Brewers, again. My boss was good friends with Craig Counsell and he loved to invite our boss and other doctors to the field to play baseball against a professional team. 

A bunch of professional doctors going against professional baseball players, what a way to spend an off day. I tried to find where to go walking in circles around the stadium to figure out how to get to the dugout. Once I finally made it, I saw my boss talking to Craig. Other doctors were getting ready for the game. While The Brewers were just starting to show up. 

"Hey, Y/N!" Craig waved to me as I walked onto the field and smiled before setting my stuff down.  

"How you been?" He asked with a smile patting me on the shoulder. 

"It's been good! Stressful. But, good." I said sincerely before looking to the side of him to see Willy Adames stretching. 

"Well, it's about to get even more stressful when we kick your butt today!" he snickered, I was too distracted looking at Willy. But, I just gave a fake chuckle before getting caught back in reality. I heard my name getting called by one of my coworkers. 

"Yeah, well, we'll see about that Craig," I said before walking to the dugout. 

While walking to the dugout I passed by Willy, who gave me a huge grin.

"Hey, Y/N," he said with a wink. 

"What's up, Willy!" I said stopping to talk to him.

He wrapped me in an embrace, "How's everything?" he asked letting go of me and then looking me up and down examining my body, he smiled once he looked into my eyes. 

"Doing alright. You?" I asked as I looked directly into his eyes I wasn't trying to, but I was smiling at him, just something about him made me grin. 

"Well, I'm coming off the injured list, and this is good practice to trackback. Plus, you're here so I'm feeling great." He said nudging me on the arm. I let out a soft laugh before he continued. 

"What position are you playing today?" He asked as he put his glove on. 

I wiggled my eyebrows before saying, "Shortstop." 

He laughed with a hint of red filling his cheeks. 

"I guess will just have to see who the better shortstop player is today, hm?" I winked. 

"Oh, you're on." He said. 

"Willy! Stop trying to be a flirt and get in here!" Kolten Wong yelled to Willy, waving for him to come into the dugout. 

Willy furrowed his eyebrows at Kolten, he was embarrassing him in front of the girl he's been crushing on since the first baseball game they played. Everyone on The Brewers knew that Willy had a crush on you, they would make fun of him for it, any chance they could get, and since you were here today it was the perfect time to strike.

"Well, I guess I should get going," He said walking towards the dugout. 

"See you on the field." I smiled.

Once Willy was in the Dugout he punched Kolten in the arm.

"Oh come on man just ask her out!" Kolten said putting his glove on. 

"If it was that easy, I would! But look at her, she is way out of my league." He said with a sigh. 

I entered the dugout where other doctors were getting their cleats on, getting ready to bat. 

"Alright, here's the line-up!" My boss said, hanging it on the wall. I looked at it to see I was batting first. 

"I'm first?!" I exclaimed. 

"Yep, and you're going against Suter, have fun!" My boss said before pushing me out of the dugout. I put my Helmet on and stepped to the batter's box. 

I could hear Willy laughing from shortstop, he probably thought I looked ridiculous or that I was going to strikeout. 

The first pitch came, it was a ball. 

The second pitch came, and I hit the ball straight down to shortstop, it didn't even hit the ground. I rolled my eyes looking at Willy's cocky grin. He was proud that he caught the ball and also proud that he got me out. 

The next inning came and it was getting close to Willy's turn to bat. We were told to be put in a shift, I was between first and second now. Willy came up to bat and I returned to him with a laugh, from earlier. 

"Oh, Yeah Y/N?! Watch this!" He teasingly yelled at me, he thought he was going to get a home run but it ended up being a pop fly right to me, I caught it with ease and laughed at him, he shook his head as he watched me run back to the dugout, he was admiring me before I ran inside. 

The game came to end with The Brewers beating us with ease.  I collected my things and headed out of the dugout to see some of my coworkers talking with some of the players. 

"Hey Y/N!" Lorenzo said walking up to me.

"Renzo!" I smiled as I walked to him and gave him a hug. 

"Not half bad, today." He said nudging me on the shoulder. I gave a soft smile as I looked to see Keston and Luis coming toward us. They teased me about how I should play baseball full time.

"Talk to Craig, I bet he'll give you a spot on the team." Keston laughed.

"Yeah, you can take Willy's spot. You can be our new shortstop player." Luis teased.

"I am nowhere as good as Willy." I shrugged shaking my head.

I looked off to see Willy watching me his jaw clenched, I smiled at him, and he smiled back at me but it quickly went away. I raised an eyebrow before I was pulled back into a conversation with Lorenzo.

Willy didn't want to say it, but he was jealous. He wishes it was as easy for him to talk to you as it was for the other guys.  You and he were friends, great friends, even. He would text you occasionally to check up on you. Willy liked you and he wanted to get close to you. Kolten's right. He just needs to ask you out. What does he have to lose?

I waved goodbye to the boys before walking off the field. Willy noticed you leaving and took a deep breath before running up to you. "Wait, Y/N!" He shouted. 

I turned around and smiled. Willy almost stopped in his tracks just to admire me, how could he ask you? He's way too nervous. "What's up?" I said walking closer to him. 

He cleared his throat and looked into my eyes. He then turned around to see Kolten and the others watching from afar. Willy rolled his eyes and then turned back to me with a soft chuckle. "So, Y/N. We've been friends for a while...right?" He asked moving his hand onto mine.

"Yeah, we're friends!" I said letting him take my hand. He rubbed his thumb against the back of my hand. 

"Well, I was thinking, maybe you would want to go out to dinner with me tonight...or-or some other night, if today is too soon." He stuttered looking down at the ground but catching glances to look up at me. 

I smiled and squeezed his hand. "What took you so long?" 

He chuckled not thinking much of what I said, "Wait, what?" He realized what I said.

"Willy, I've liked you for a while, and I always thought you liked me too. But, you never said anything. So I've just been patiently waiting." I snarked grabbing his other hand and holding it. 

"So, that's a yes?" He asked with a grin. 

"How bout we go to that restaurant now?" I winked.

(love is like) a baseball game

Luke had always loved spring training.

When he was a kid, his parents and brothers would take spring break to go down and watch the first, unofficial, games of the season. He got to meet so many excellent players in his time, star-struck by the short-stops that would wave at him or the catchers who would show off their gloves to the crowd. Luke loved spring training and the fun that came with it.

He especially loved it when he was not even twenty and called up to try out for the Phillies team to get a spot in their rotation, no one thought he would get it, not even him. But only a few months later he had made it to the show after a few too many injuries wore them thin. And the rest is, well, history.

This season was different, new, and exciting. The Mets were coming off of an amazing postseason and an even better off-season. Luke had signed a big deal to stay in the orange and blue for another seven years.
