hi!! very excited about your next batch! but i was wondering if you ever think of posting some of the (wonderful) female!mav scenes you wrote (the question mark on my computer decided to stop working but this is indeed a question)
have a great weekend!!
yeah sure! again— this isn’t finished and never will be finished, I posted the reasons below. But here are a bunch of snippets from the fem!mav/lesbian charliemav AU from this summer. Would love to hear your thoughts, because politically it gave me some pause! lol.
1. On how mav survives (the central motif of the one-shot is Mav cutting her hair with scissors which is why the emphasis here)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. On ice (straight icemav will never work because fundamentally ice is a misogynistic cunt)
Tumblr media
3. on sex with girly girls (one of life’s greatest pleasures)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ehhh you get the picture of what’s under the cut
4. on charliemav
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. on charlie
Tumblr media
7. The end (post Layton mission [mav proving herself by saving ice’s life] and the end of TG86, Mav gearing up to cut her hair again in Charlie’s house)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here, copy-pasted, were the tags i planned to affix to the charliemav one-shot, which I think explain also why I stopped writing it—maverick is insanely out of character here!
“some discussion of issues that would affect a female pilot in the 1980s in this one: SA, sexism, etc. u have been warned / i would love to talk to anyone about the politics of this one cause hoo boy i had to think about it / it’s a little personal to me too / i wouldn’t necessarily say i struggle with my gender identity but i do have a really complicated relationship with it / i think this mav is incredibly out of character / it turns out mav’s thoughtless overperformance of masculinity is so ingrained into his character that / if you make it intentional he/she turns into an entirely different character. / i often struggle with writing maverick way way too bitter (there’s something very gentle about tgm mav I struggle replicating) / & this is a VERY bitter & cynical & calculating mav as well. she has to be. But i fear i lose some of mav’s original character in the cynicism. 🤷🏽‍♀️ / that’s why i struggle writing AUs—you lose so much of the original characters who are DEFINED by the stories they’re from / if that makes sense. / i think a female maverick isn’t maverick. / you might as well be writing original fiction at that point. / this 1 shot is pretty much just original fiction. / idk would love to hear ppls thoughts on the fandom philosophy behind AUs / something i would love to think about more / top gun fanfiction / charlotte charlie Blackwood / pete maverick mitchell / Tom iceman kazansky/ nick goose bradshaw / genderbent top gun / charliemav / in this universe mav and Charlie break up and mav gets back together with Penny according to the tgm timeline btw / TGM mav might as well be a lesbian like nothing really has to change in the script at all. / post 2010 tom cruise just gives lesbian. no change necessary / soundtrack for this one is ‘I have a woman inside my soul’ by yoko ono”
I also stopped writing this one because I could not for the life of me figure out how to write goose, canonically a sexist just like mav and ice. made things difficult and a little awkward

One Man’s Loss is Another Man’s Gain
Title: One Man’s Loss is Another Man’s Gain
Pairing: Jake Seresin x Wife Reader
Warnings: Language, Fluff, Bradley being put in his place, Protective Jake
Summary: When the best pilots in the navy get called back to Top Gun for a special detachment and it’s learned that Pete Maverick Mitchell is the instructor Bradley Bradshaw looks forward to seeing his old crush again so he can finally confess his feelings, Y/N Mitchell. Too bad Jake Seresin already swept her off her feet and made her Mrs. Seresin.
Requested: Yes!
Tumblr media
When you first heard about this special suicide mission it’s safe to say you were terrified for your husband and father. You and Jake had been married for around 3 years now and you’re currently 7 months pregnant with your first child. The idea of being left a widow killing you inside, but not as much as the chance of your son growing up without his father.
You and your father Pete Mitchell have a strong relationship, he was the only constant in your life for a long time after your mother abandoned you on his doorstep. Growing up you and your dad spent a lot of time with Carole and Bradley, Goose passed away 3 years before you were born and Carole and Pete sometimes joked that Goose sent you to them because he knew they needed you.
Carole was the only mother figure you ever had in your life and when she passed away when you were 16 it rocked your whole world, as far as you were concerned she helped raise you and you loved her like a daughter loves her mother.
Bradley. He was a different story, though you’re 6 years younger than him you two grew up as best friends. He was your first crush when you turned 13 and actually noticed how cute he was, but he was in college then and was always going out to parties with college girls, so you never saw him much. When you were 15 you finally realized how dumb your crush was, he was 21 and you were still basically a child playing softball and hanging out with your friends at the movies and the beach. For your own sanity you let the crush go and just focused on being happy to see him when he came home on breaks.
One day everything changed though. Bradley had written you off completely out of the blue, you tried getting in touch with him but your calls wouldn’t go through, you even tried the old fashioned way and sent him a few letters but never got a response. You tried asking your dad what happened but he refused to give you any details. As much as it hurt, you refused to let yourself feel bad and reach out over and over again when you got nothing in return. So you just stopped trying.
You went to college at UCLA where you played softball all four years and got your teaching degree in elementary education, you moved back home to North Beach where you got a job as a 1st grade teacher at Miramar Elementary School on base, thanks to a few strings pulled by your Uncle Ice to insure you’d be close to home.
You met Jake at the hard deck when you were 23 and he was 26, you had gone out to spend some time with Penny and your dad had just gotten back from a deployment so you all were celebrating. Jake had just graduated from Top Gun at the top of his class and came out with a few of his fellow graduates to celebrate. When you two locked eyes the attraction was instant.
Jake spent almost a month trying to get you to go out with him, you had heard of Jake Hangman Seresin’s reputation from your dad who heard it from Uncle Ice. So you wanted to play hard to get and make sure he actually wanted to be with you and not just get into your pants. He proved himself though when he took you out for a picnic on the beach followed up by a walk on the board walk with some ice cream.
You two dated for around 3 years before getting married, you had a small intimate ceremony with just your family and a few close friends. You two lived in a old fashioned farm house and turned it into your dream house, about a year into your marriage you adopted a golden retriever puppy from the pound named Lady and a tabby cat named Wendy and you two were fine with just being animal parents for a little while.
You spent these last 3 years of marriage building your family home. You and Jake decided to live permanently in San Diego regardless of his deployments. Jake worked as hard as he could for the Navy making a name for himself, while you worked just as hard at your teaching job welcoming kids into your class year after year who left feeling like your very own children. Maverick has his hangar around 20 minutes away from your house and you all have Sunday dinners every week without fail.
When you found out you were pregnant you were surprised but nonetheless thrilled, sure you two weren’t actively trying for a baby but you weren’t really doing anything to avoid pregnancy either. You immediately went to the doctor and got checked out learning that you were 8 weeks pregnant and left with a wide smile and some ultrasound pictures. When Maverick found out he was going to be a grandpa he just about passed out from excitement. But nothing beats Jake’s reaction when he found out he was going to be a father.
You had been anxiously waiting for Jake to get back from training, you found out about the pregnancy around a week ago and you were dying to tell your husband but wanted it to be memorable.
You brainstormed and then remembered the two things he loved almost as much as you. Your animals. You’ve seen other people use their animals as a pregnancy announcement and knew that this was the way to go.
You ordered Lady a thin sweater that read “Big Sister” and Wendy a collar that had baby booties on it since you knew better than to try to put your cat into a sweater, learning from past mistakes. You also found three of the cutest onesies at target, one read “my best friend’s have paws” the second one read “my daddy is a pilot” and the last one read “I love mommy and daddy”. You of course had to get all three, and you wanted to make a box to put them in so you got your pregnancy test and ultrasound picture and put it in the box on top of the folded onesies.
Jake is suppose to be home at 7 and it’s currently 6:50, you felt butterflies in your stomach as you sat on the couch with Wendy resting on the back of the couch near your shoulder and Lady laying across your lap asleep, with the box laying on the coffee table. You were excited but nervous about Jake’s reaction, you knew regardless he would be excited but you may have to scoop his unconscious form off the floor before the excitement hits him.
Before you could think much longer the door opened and both animals lifted their heads to look towards the door as Jake stepped inside. You quickly grabbed your phone and pressed record , wanting to get his reaction on video before urging Lady off your lap.
“Hey baby! How was your day?” You asked standing up
“It was something. I’m just glad to be home with my girls.” Jake smiled setting his bag down at the front door.
“We’re glad your home too. I have a surprise for you.” You smiled making Jake cock his brow
“What? It’s not my birthday, it’s not our anniversary, I didn’t get you anything.” Jake stressed making you chuckle
“This is for me too. Lady go see daddy!” You nudged Lady in Jake’s direction and the dog immediately stumbled towards Jake who squatted down with open arms while he was distracted by the dog you grabbed the box and held it patiently
“Lady girl! There’s my girl! What does mommy have you wearing? What is this?” Jake asked in a baby voice making you smile as he gripped the fabric to try and read it, Wendy had made her way over to the two and was rubbing her head against Jake’s leg purring. “Big Sister?”
You could see the gears in Jake’s head turning as he stared at the sweater before looking down at Wendy’s collar, his head snapped up towards you with wide glossy eyes.
“Baby? Is this what I think it is? Are you pregnant? Am I going to be a dad?” Jake asked slowly standing to his feet
“Open the box.” You smiled feeling tears burn in your eyes as you handed him the box. “Daddy.”
“Oh my god.” Jake mumbled as he looked at the contents of the box. “Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh baby!”
Jake carefully but quickly sat the box down on the ground before pulling you into his arms making you laugh tearfully as he spun you around.
“Oh my god! We’re having a baby! We’re having a baby! There is actually a baby inside of you right now!” Jake exclaimed cupping your face as your tears spilled over. “I love you so much. This is so perfect, I love you.”
“I love you too.” You smiled pulling him into a kiss
Jake has doted on you your whole pregnancy, he’s been to every doctor’s appointment, any craving you have he’s out the door to get it, any ache or pain he’s giving you a entire body massage, when your hormones are too much he holds you tight and litters your face with kisses, and pregnancy sex is out of this world.
You’d just hit your 7 month mark and felt like a whale, your ankles were swollen, your back always aches, your breasts are sore and tender, and you officially can’t stand or walk without supporting your bump because it feels like the weight of your bump is going to send you to the floor. You had recently just had a small gender reveal with your dad and some of Jake’s family and learned that you were having a little boy.
Jake has been busy training for the mission and your dad has been busy being the instructor for the mission, which has led to some long days and nights with Lady and Wendy as your company. You had heard from Jake’s nightly complaining that your estranged best friend Bradley Bradshaw is back for the mission and of course they’ve been butting heads, Jake is fiercely protective of you and after learning how hurt you were when Bradley tossed you to the side Jake made it his personal mission to be the biggest ass to him he could be.
Your dad had called you and told you about the fight between Jake and Bradley and how your name had been brought up, and that Jake bragged about how you were his. You smacked Jake on the head that night but quickly got over it when he brought up the idea of a hot bath and a back rub.
Today Penny had practically begged you to come see her, she was your favorite of all your dads conquests growing up and have always kept in touch she was more your mother than your actual mother. You hesitantly said yes, not really feeling like leaving the comfort of your bed but wanting to spend some time with her.
You took a shower and washed your hair and body, since your pregnancy makes you feel sweaty and disgusting at every moment a shower did you some good. You were feeling more energized after your shower so you even did your makeup routine and did a cute braid in your hair. You got dressed in a flowered blue sundress and some sandals and put your regular jewelry on, barley managing to get your wedding band on your swollen finger.
Since Penny loves Lady you decided to bring her with you, and Jake’s been training her since the beginning of your pregnancy to be your watch dog, a job that Lady takes very seriously. You got her in her harness and leash before grabbing your purse and keys and walking out to your white Rang Rover. You opened the passengers side door and patted the seat.
“Up Lady! Good girl!” You smiled giving her a treat and kissing the top of her head securing the leash to the seatbelt before closing the door and walking around to the drivers side.
You drove towards the hard deck with with windows down bobbing your head to your Taylor Swift playlist, the breeze blowing some of your flyaways into your lipgloss.
When you pulled into the hard deck you furrowed your brows when you saw both your dads bike and Jake’s truck in the parking lot. You got out of the car and walked around grabbing Lady’s leash and getting her out of the car before you two walked inside.
“Pen! Penny!” You called out seeing the bar empty
“Out here!” Penny called from the back deck
Lady jerked on the leash at Penny’s voice and you chuckled lightly before dropping the leash letting the energetic dog run out the back door.
“Lady!” Penny exclaimed as you walked outside seeing the golden retriever giving the woman some love. “Hey sweetheart, how you feelin?”
“Pregnant. Very pregnant.” You chuckled taking a seat beside her. “Whatcha doing out here?”
“Just taking in the view.” Penny smirked and you furrowed your brows before following her gaze to see the aviators on the beach playing football
“Oh. That’s why dad and Jake’s bike and truck are out front. I thought they snuck away to day drink.” You said making Penny chuckle
“Nope. They’ve been at it for about an hour. Jake’s already laid Rooster out twice.” Penny raised her brow and you chuckled
“That man. I told him not to be a dick, I swear he holds a grudge worse than any woman I’ve ever met.” You shook your head playing your hands on your swollen belly. “Your daddy’s a little bit of a drama Queen.”
Penny chuckled and turned her head back to the team of aviators and smiled when she saw them walking towards them.
“Looks like they’re heading this way.” Penny nudged your shoulder making you look up
Lady perked up when she first caught sight of Maverick, the dog stumbled in the sand towards him. Maverick smiled and crouched down allowing the dog to run into his embrace, licking his face in greeting.
“Lady girl! You’ve gotten so big in the last week, you just keep on growing.” Maverick smiled rubbing the dogs head
You got up with Penny’s help and walked onto the beach towards your dad, you saw Jake still down by the water with a few other pilots so you figured you’d make your way down to him.
“Hey dad.” You smiled as you walked over to him, Lady coming right back to your side
“Hey kiddo. How’s my grandson?” Maverick asked giving you a hug and kissing your forehead
“He’s being pretty lazy today, he hasn’t moved around much and when I pressed around to try to get him to move he just gave me one big kick basically telling me to shut up.” You chuckled rubbing your belly where your baby had just given you a kick, probably knowing you were talking about him
“It’s those Mitchell genes, he’s gonna be a stubborn one.” Maverick smiled gently patting your stomach
“God help us.” You shook your head. “How’s training going? I hope Jake isn’t being too much trouble.”
“It’s going. Jake’s being Jake. He’s definitely giving Bradley a hard time.” Maverick said
Jake was the one who put you back together, when you met you had some serious trust issues and were battling some depression as well. Even before you finally agreed to date him, Jake was always protective of you and when you finally opened up and let him in he swore no one was ever going to hurt you again.
“He’s just protective, you know that.” You sighed and Maverick nodded
“I know. I’m glad he looks out for you.” Maverick said looking slightly over your shoulder making you smirk
“You know, she still loves you.” You said making him snap his gaze back to you
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Maverick shook his head and you chuckled
“She’s been like my mother my whole life. I wish you’d make it official.” You said kissing his cheek before making your way towards Jake
“Y/N?” A voice asked from behind you making you pause, you knew that voice it’s one you’d never be able to forget no matter how hard you tried
You slowly turned around and saw Bradley standing in front of you, he was wearing his dads old aviators and some cut off jean shorts without a shirt. He’s grown up since you saw him last, now sporting the mustache that looked so much like Goose’s.
“Bradley.” You nodded managing a small smile, you felt Lady settle herself right on your side nearly sitting on your foot in a protective position
“Look. I don’t want any trouble. I know I screwed up so bad, cutting you out of my life was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever done. I was just so mad about what had happened that I didn’t even think that you might not of known about it I just decided that you had just as much to do with it as Mav and that was the end of it. You didn’t deserve that, I know that now.” Bradley sighed sadly looking down at your bump that you were cradling
“You’re right. I didn’t deserve that. I loved you Bradley, I honestly thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with you. You were my best friend and I know you were going through a rough time losing Carole and then your papers. But I lost her too, she was the closest thing I had to a mom and I loved her so much. I was grieving and then I lost you too.” You paused to clear your throat. “I don’t know. Maybe if you had stuck around I never would’ve met Jake, and I wouldn’t trade him and our life together for the world. I don’t want to bring my son into the world with any hard feelings, I don’t want any grudges to be passed down to him. So, I am willing to try and move past this. You were family once Brad, I think that maybe we could be that again.”
Bradley cleared his throat and looked away before looking back towards you.
“I would really like that. I’m happy for you kid, as much as I hate to say it I’m glad that you have Jake and happy that you found someone who will love and take care of you. I will spend the rest of my life trying to make this right, I promise.” Bradley said and you nodded reaching down to pet Lady when she nudged your leg
“I think we can do that.” You smiled softly one that Bradley mirrored
“Congratulations. I remember how you always talked about being a mom.” Bradley said gesturing to your stomach
“Thank you. It’s a little boy.” You smiled adoringly down at your stomach
Before anything else could be said, a familiar presence was felt behind you before arms wrapped around your waist and gently cupped your stomach pulling you back into a warm firm chest.
“Everything good here?” Jake asked leaning down to kiss the spot right under your ear
“Everything’s fine.” You nodded towards Bradley who nodded in agreement
“Yeah. Uh, congrats on the baby.” Bradley told Jake who nodded
“Thanks.” Jake said before taking Lady’s leash from your hands. “Want to get some food?”
“Yes. I’m starving.” You said and Jake chuckled taking your hand into his
“Let’s go then, I’m sure Penny would make you that burger you love.” Jake said pulling you towards the hard deck
“I’ll see you around.” You told Bradley who nodded watching as you left with Jake’s arm now wrapped around your waist
Bradley watched Jake lean down to kiss your forehead gently as he led you and your dog back towards the hard deck where everyone else was standing around the back deck talking. He watched your smile as you talked to Phoenix and Bob and as you were introduced to everyone else. He smiled softly, he fully expected to be filled with jealousy when he saw you and Jake together.
But seeing how happy you were, your bright smile and sparkling eyes as you cling to Jake’s side. You deserve the world and if Jake can give it to you then that’s enough for him.

“Baby, we have to get up,” she pleaded. Bradley ignored her request and wrapped his arms around her midsection tighter.
A soft displeased hum left her lips—though it was mostly in jest. She could never be anything but content in Bradley’s arms. The sound only had the aviator nuzzling his head further against her neck, peppering light kisses across the exposed skin.
---
Before y/n, Bradley never slept in. Rooster was his call sign for a reason. For better or for worse, he had a habit of being up before the sun and the rest of the sane world.
Sleeping in meant that he was only prolonging the amount of time he spent in bed alone. The barrack beds were uncomfortable and cold. When he’d been promoted and was able to arrange for housing off-base he ran into the same issue. A thousand dollars and a new mattress later, the comfort issue was fixed. He might as well have been sleeping on a damn cloud. But his bed was still cold. And lonely.
Without an alarm clock he rose every morning no later than 5:30 a.m.. Maybe it was because of all his years in the military. Maybe it was the broken teenager inside of him that was always running—from his past, to his future, to find someplace somewhere that he could rest easy—and damn, was that exhausting. Everyone he loved and counted on died suddenly, or abandoned him, or died slowly.
As he got older, he found a little bit of peace. Bradley worked his ass off and earned his successful career. He reconnected with his estranged Godfather. He was reassigned to the same base he spent most of his early childhood at.
He slept better after that. In his mid-thirties, it was about damn time that he was able to relax a bit. Yet still, no amount of blankets warmed up the everpresent unwelcome chill.
---
One morning he had a particularly unpleasant wake-up. At just after 4 in the morning, Bradley woke up drenched in sweat. The nightmares weren’t frequent, but they weren’t uncommon. It came with the territory of being directly involved in combat. He couldn’t go back to sleep–he never could–so he got up. He cleaned his entire house. He watched a movie that he wasn’t paying attention to. He went for a run. He didn’t bother counting the miles, he just ran until he felt better; even though he never really did. When he was done showering, it was finally a socially acceptable hour to call someone.
Bradley’s thumb hovered over Pete’s phone number. Before he could talk himself out of it, he pressed harder than necessary on the screen and winced as the phone rang. After 3 rings Bradley’s tense shoulders deflated. Just before the call went to voicemail, it was picked up with haste. Shuffling could be heard on the other end of the line.
“Hi sweetie!” That’s not Maverick.
“Hey Penny…” he trailed off awkwardly. He was hardly prepared to have a conversation with his godfather, much less his godfather’s girlfriend.
“Mav is out in the hangar right now working on his plane,” Penny explained with a sarcastic air of ‘what else is new?’. There was more shuffling as Penny moved to hold the phone between her shoulder and ear. She had a splatter or two of pancake batter on her manicured hands. Pete would just have to suck it up when he saw the evidence on his phone later.
“I’m making breakfast right now, would you like to come over? I’ll make up a plate for you, hun,” Penny offered sweetly. She was so caught up in putting together her Sunday breakfast feast that she hardly realized she never asked Bradley why he called.
The younger man paused for a moment. He didn’t want to impose, but he really didn’t want to be alone right now.
Pete met Bradley at the front door with a fond smile. Bradley tried his best to return the smile but he wasn’t successful. His lips just looked like they were twisted in pain and there wasn’t much light in his eyes. Maverick’s brow furrowed. He wouldn’t push until the kid was ready to open up, and he had a feeling that wouldn’t be until after he had a plate full of Penny’s famous pancakes.
Amelia all but inhaled her breakfast before she twirled around the house like a mini tornado, grabbing her bag and keys and shouting ‘ThanksforbreakfastI’mgoingtothebeachwithsomefriendsloveyoubye!’ as the door slammed shut behind her. Maverick’s eyebrows raised and Penny just shook her head with a smile.
The older woman subtly watched Bradley clear his plate. She waited until he swallowed his last bite of food and washed it down with orange juice before she rested her soft hand over his white knuckle clenched fist on the table.
“What’s going on, Bradley?” she asked gently. She was careful–like he was a scared animal that might bolt in an instant. Pete leaned in, making sure he was within his godson’s line of sight too. Bradley couldn’t meet either of their eyes. He cleared his throat and was quiet for a moment.
He told them about the nightmare. About the cold sweat, and the cold sheets, and the cold bed, and the cold empty house. Mav’s heart broke. He was trying his best to do right by Goose; he’d just barely managed to repair his relationship with his godson, but he supposed there was only so much he could protect the younger aviator from.
Pete reached across to rest an arm on Bradley’s shoulder. He tensed then relaxed, but didn’t shake off Mav’s hand. Maybe that was a good sign. Penny’s gaze was sympathetic. Bradley rarely opened up to anyone, but he knew Penny was the person to go to when pity would make him nauseous.
“It might be helpful to get some company,” the older, wiser woman suggested and squeezed Bradley’s hand. His fist unclenched a bit. Pete had been mostly silent up until this point. He wasn’t good with emotions, that much was obvious to anyone who’d spent more than half an hour outside of work with the man.
“Company other than one night stands and the stray cats you swear you don’t feed,” Pete remarked. Rooster chuckled. It was the first genuinely positive reaction they’d seen from him this morning. The cats are lovely company, thank you very much, Bradley thought.
---
Bradley tried to get his shit together. He was mostly successful. He officially took in one of the stray cats. He brought him to the vet and made sure his vaccines were up to date and got the poor cat neutered. A cat tree tower took residence next to the backdoor Bradley left cat food out by.
He even tried his hand at gardening. He started a small vegetable garden and did a bit of landscaping. Two months ago he didn’t know which perennials were best suited for California weather, much less how to take care of them. Now he’d installed a carefully timed automatic sprinkler system and even built a tarp over part of the earthy plot to prevent too much sun exposure for some of the more delicate plants.
You have to love yourself before you can love someone else.
Bradley was convinced that phrase was absolute bullshit. Plenty of people were in happy relationships and still went through bouts of being miserable with themselves. Penny tsked Bradley’s pessimism at her bar top. She’d unofficially taken on the role of being his intermittent therapist.
“Bull shit or not, you need to work out some of your own issues before you start dating around,” she said pointedly. She was being pulled in the opposite direction by another bartender that needed her help when she shouted back to Bradley, “Don’t you dare download Tinder, mister!” The exclamation was far too loud for Bradley’s taste, especially when several heads suddenly whipped around to focus on him.
So work out his issues he did.
He stopped throwing himself into work and ruthless workouts simply for the sake of avoiding his thoughts and being alone. He tried out sitting in silence with his thoughts in his lonely house. He hated it. But he got better at it over time. Goose the cat climbing across his lap and snuggling against his thigh made things better.
Companionship. Mav and Penny were right. He needed someone outside of work. Someone whose life didn’t center around the Navy or planes or beer.
---
y/n wasn’t who he ever imagined ending up with. She didn’t particularly care for the U.S. military-industrial complex. She wasn’t a beer girl and she wasn’t very good at driving. She was afraid of heights so she preferred not to fly when she traveled. Whenever she could drive instead of take a flight, she would—even though she’s admittedly a bad driver.
y/n loved Bradley’s cat. She was a cat and a dog person. She was also a bearded dragon person—something that Bradley did not expect to learn about anyone over the age of 20. Her eyes were filled with wonder when she first laid eyes on his thriving vegetable garden.
y/n was very outdoorsy. She loved nature and the beach, she dragged Bradley out of his cold house more times than he could count. The more time y/n spent at his house, the less cold it felt. She brought Bradley on hikes—he had no idea how many trails and reserves were within driving distance. Bradley always drove.
Their green thumbs linked well together. y/n introduced several cat-safe plants to the interior of Bradley’s home. Every once in a blue moon, the couple would spend time at y/n’s apartment. Her roommate was even less of a fan of the military-industrial complex and it showed. One morning Bradley woke up before y/n so he headed to her kitchen to make them breakfast. Her roommate, Allie, woke up early as well. A not-so-casual conversation ensued (read: scrutinizing questions) about Bradley being ‘“Property of Uncle Sam” over the sound of scrambled eggs sizzling. After that, Bradley suggested they spend more time at his house. It was roomier, he reasoned. y/n snorted. “You just don’t want Allie talking at you at the butt crack of dawn,” y/n corrected. Bradley nodded with tight lips.
Mav and Penny enthusiastically offered to help move y/n into Bradley’s home after the spunky y/h/c accepted his offer with a massive grin and a PG-13 kiss.
Now that Bradley woke up with y/n in his arms every morning, he wasn’t really eager to hop out of bed anymore. He was pretty sure the last time he habitually woke up later than 9 in the morning on weekends was when he was in high school.
---
y/n huffed and leaned back into Bradley’s warm embrace. The man was practically a space heater in bed, but he was her space heater.
She twisted around in his arms with a grin so that they were chest to chest. Bradley’s legs tensed when y/n’s cold feet assaulted his skin.
“We need to go feed Goose,” y/n reasoned, even though she knew full well that Bradley couldn’t be reasoned with when he was comfortable in bed. Comfortable and bed were two words that weren’t associated with each other for quite a long time for Bradley.
“He can starve for a bit,” he mumbled without opening his eyes. y/n gasped and swatted his arm. The corner of his lip twitched into a grin as he leaned forward to blindly press a kiss to y/n’s face.
“You have morning breath, Brad,” she wrinkled her nose. He squinted one eye open and stuck his tongue out at y/n. She rolled her eyes but she too snuggled further into his warm embrace. 20 minutes or so passed by. y/n was falling in and out of almost asleep, and she was ready to get the day going.
She squirmed in Bradley’s arms again.
“Bradleyyy,” she groaned, feeling antsy. The aviator shook his head with a smile. For the first time all morning, he cracked his eyes open. The light streaming through the window highlighted the flecks of gold in his beautiful big brown eyes and y/n forgot what she was going to say.
“Shhh, five more minutes” he hushed softly and pressed a kiss to y/n’s nose, a content smile on his face.
“Give me a minute to hold my girl.”

It Was You
pete “maverick” mitchell x reader
summary: when maverick knocks on your door, your true feelings emerge.
warnings: friends with benefits, student/instructor dynamic, age gap (not mentioned), language, drunkenness, make-out session
wc: 823
a/n: based on this request! not necessarily exactly like the song but there’s angst. hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
It had been almost two months since you broke things off with Maverick.
Not that the two of you were really dating, it was more of a friends with benefits type relationship, but after a month you realized how bad of an idea it was to fuck your instructor.
You were doing well, but whenever you passed Maverick in the halls on base, he would give you puppy eyes, like he was trying to apologize for something.
One Friday night, you’re at home watching a movie with your new fling. He’s nothing to write home about, but you needed someone to get your mind off of Maverick.
Suddenly, there’s a knock on your door.
“I’ll get it,” you say, standing up from the couch and heading to the front door.
When you open the door, your smile fades.
“What are you doing here?”
“I miss you,” Maverick mumbles. You can smell whiskey faintly on his breath.
“Maverick,” you sigh. “You’re drunk. Please go home.”
“Not drunk,” he continued to mumble.
“Mav, this is embarrassing, please go.”
Ryan walks up behind you. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, he was just leaving, right, Pete?”
The use of his name over his call sign stings not just Maverick, but also you.
Maverick nods, and stumbles off your porch.
“Wait,” you call out. Maverick stops, back still to you.
You turn to Ryan. “I need to get him home before he does anything he’s gonna regret in the morning. I’ll be back soon, okay?”
“How do I know you’re not gonna do anything?” Ryan asks.
“Trust me, nothing’s going to happen.”
Ryan stares at you for a moment.
“I’ll be right back,” you mutter, stepping across the threshold.
Maverick is still waiting at the bottom of your steps.
“Why did you come here?” you hiss.
“I miss you,” he repeats, looking at the ground.
You grab his arm and start to lead him to his house.
“Mav, I told you.”
“You don’t look happy with him,” Maverick frowns.
“This is not your place to tell me who I can and can’t date,” you quip.
“Gimme another chance,” he pleads.
“We can’t, Pete. You’re my instructor. There are rules.”
“Fuck the rules.”
“Not these rules. You can do whatever the fuck you want up in the air but we have to follow these rules, Mav.”
You guide him up the steps to his house.
“We were good together,” he mumbles.
“Don’t do this, Pete,” you say, feeling your throat close up and tears forming in your eyes.
Maverick looks up at you with sadness in his eyes.
“I won’t, I’m sorry for knocking on your door,” he says, suddenly stone cold sober.
“I need to go before I do something stupid,” you say, turning away. “Goodnight, Mav.”
“Goodnight, y/n,” Maverick whispers.
You go back to your place, where Ryan is still waiting.
Later that night, as you lay in bed with Ryan, you can’t stop thinking about how you’d rather be next to Maverick.
You spend the weekend with Ryan, but your mind is filled with Maverick. As Ryan walks you to your door Sunday night, you find some courage.
“Ryan, I don’t think this is working for me,” you say.
“What?” he asks you.
“I wanted to make this work, but I just don’t have the same feelings that you do for me.”
“It’s Maverick, isn’t it?”
“Ryan, I…”
“No, I get it. Goodnight.”
Ryan turns on his heel and walks away. You watch him walk out of sight and you walk to Maverick’s house.
You knock on his door, and he answers almost immediately.
“Y/n,” he says softly.
“You were right, Mav,” you say, on the verge of tears.
“What?”
“I miss you. I couldn’t stop thinking about you after Friday night.”
Maverick doesn’t say anything.
“If you changed your mind and don’t feel the same anymore, I get it and I’ll leave if you tell me,” you say, rambling.
Maverick leans in and kisses you, hard. Your arms wrap around his neck instinctively, and you push him back inside his house, kicking the door shut behind you.
He pushes you up against the door with a thud. Maverick’s tongue eagerly swipes against your lips, wanting in.
Of course, without any hesitation, you part your lips for him, his tongue moving in and swiping against yours.
A moan slips out of your mouth and into his, and he sighs happily.
“You’re the best thing that’s happened to me,” Maverick tells you.
“You’re the worst thing that’s happened to me,” you tease.
He smiles. “I know you don’t mean that.”
You giggle and kiss him again, happy to be back in his arms.
“I’m sorry I walked away, I was scared,” you say softly.
“Don’t be, y/n,” Maverick reassures you, pulling you in for a hug. He kisses the top of your head.
“Mav,” you sigh, squeezing him tighter, never wanting to let go ever again.

Random Hangman Story Idea of the Day-
hopefully an actual writer takes over this story and writes it. Please someone- take it!
Jake giving up his Christmas leave to Bob because he finds out Bob’s sister just welcomed a new baby and he knows how much the WSO wants to be home for the holidays. So Hangman goes to Admiral Simpson and requests to give his leave away anonymously. When Cyclone calls Floyd in to tell him, Bob is so happy to get to see his family, he doesn’t think about who could have given him this gift and just heads out to pack.
The Friday before Christmas, as everyone who has the time off leaves, those stuck in Miramar start making their own plans. Bradley and Phoenix are about to head out for some last minute shopping before they begin their holidays at Mav and Ice's home, when they see a light on in Jake’s apartment. They head up to investigate, shocked when the cocky pilot answers the door, expecting him to be halfway to Texas at this point.
Natasha realizes pretty quickly how Bob was able to make it home and asks Jake about it. The blond explains how he didn't need to go home, his parents wouldn't want him there, and soon he is being invited by the two other aviators to join their festivities. Hangman declines, convinced it was a pity invite and that no one actually wants him there. Bradley and Nat beg him to reconsider but head out when it's clear their teammate isn't going to change his mind.
On Saturday, December 23rd, Jake runs around the mostly deserted Top Gun base with his air pods in. He’s about to start his fourth lap when someone grabs his shoulder- it’s Maverick, looking just as surprised as Jake is to see him there. The two chat amicably for a bit when Pete brings up Christmas. Assuming this is his Captains way of trying to see if Hangman is going to crash their family dinner, Jake explains that while he appreciates the offer he doesn't want to impose, especially after such an emotional few months for Mav and his family (reconnecting with Bradley, Ice's cancer battles). Maverick tells Jake that there is nothing they wouldn't love more than if the blond would join them, even joking about how low key the whole event will be since Ice used to do the seven fishes on Christmas Eve and the big Christmas Ham and both Pete and Bradley are hopeless in the kitchen. Jake still seems unsure, to which Mav asks him to think about it and leaves him be.
All this leads to Jake Hangman Seresin arriving at Pete and Tom's house with a handful of groceries and presents on Christmas Eve morning, insisting on cooking to earn his place at the table. Of course his captain informs him he is meant to be a guest, but everybody stops fighting it as seven courses of delicious seafood find it's way to the dinner table. The group spends the night eating, drinking, watching Christmas movies and just spending fun time together, Jake having the best holiday he can ever remember. And as they all bid each other goodnight and head off to their different guest rooms, Hangman can't help but thank his hosts for having him. Tom and Pete just smile at the young man they are ready to adopt and tell him it's their pleasure, ushering the pilot off to bed so they can place the numerous wrapped presents they purchased for Jake under their tree, excited to see his reaction the next morning.
When that reaction ends up being tears for finally finding the family he always dreamed of Jake will find himself subjected to a lot of hugs on Christmas morning.

And yes, Brisket might be one of the presents waiting for Jake under the tree 🥰

Pairing: Bob Floyd x f!reader, callsign: Romeo
Fandom: Top Gun: Maverick
Summary: Bob might be observant in the sky, but with girls he’s completely oblivious
Based off of Taylor Swift’s Gorgeous
Warnings: language
━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━
This was getting ridiculous.
For someone whose job description was being observant, Bob was completely oblivious to every single move you had tried on him.
You had tried everything.
But it failed every time.
When you tried to buy him a drink, it only ended in embarrassment.
“C’mon, Robby,” you begged, with a smile. “Let me buy you a drink.”
“It’s okay.”
“But I wanna. To congratulate you on a good flight today. You and Phoenix killed it.”
“It’s really not necessary, Romeo.”
Pouting, you tilted your head. “But why not?”
“I don’t drink.”
When you got him to teach you how to shoot a combo in pool, he barely even touched you.
“Robby?” you asked, innocently batting your lashes at him.
His eyes snapped to yours, immediately disregarding whatever Rooster was telling him. “Yeah?”
“Will you teach me how to shoot a combo?” You pointed back at the pool table where Fanboy had just lost to Payback.
“Sure.” Sliding out of his chair, Bob made his way over to you and grabbed a pool stick of his own.
He bent over, giving you a fantastic view of his ass in his khakis, and started explaining how to angle the stick so you’d be able to hit both balls.
“Give it a try,” he said with a smile.
With your best doe eyes, you mimicked his previous stance. “Like this?”
“Almost.” Bob gently nudged your shoulder back and moved the stick in your hands. “There. Now the angle’s good.”
“Are you sure?” You questioned, looking up at him.
He nodded. “Give it a try.”
This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. He was supposed to lean over you to set up the shot. That’s how it happened in the movies. But Bob was too polite to do that.
And you didn’t want to disappoint him by not trying. Sighing, you took the shot and the balls went right into the pockets.
Bob smiled proudly at you. “You got it, Romeo!”
You forced a smile as you nodded. “Yeah. Guess I did. Thanks, Robby.”
And when you tried sitting in his lap, Bob still didn’t get the hint.
Coming back from the bar with two beers in hand, you noticed that Hangman had taken her seat. It looked like he and Coyote had finished messing around with the dart board and had decided to join the group again.
Instead of complaining, you simply handed Phoenix her beer and sat right down on Bob’s lap.
Bob stared at you, cheeks lightly stained pink.
You had him now.
“Here, have my seat,” Bob said.
“I’m fine right here, Robby.”
He shook his head, two large hands grabbing you waist and lifting you off his lap. “I insist.”
Bob stood up and gestured at the seat.
You did your best to smile at the man. “Thanks, Robby. Ever the gentleman.”
Sliding onto the stool, you saw the faces of the rest of the Dagger squad. They were all suppressing their laughter at your failed attempt at flirting with Bob. They had watched this little game go on for months now.
Bob just smiled at you, oblivious.
“You know, not talking to him isn’t gonna make him disappear,” Phoenix commented, snapping you out of your memories and bringing you back to the incessant noise of the Hard Deck.
“I know, Nix. But I’m tired of continually flirting with him only for him to not understand it. So, ignoring him is the best option.”
Sighing, Phoenix passed another beer to you. “He really likes you, ya know. Even if he can’t take a hint.”
“He can’t, can he?” You laughed, shaking your head fondly. Even if you were annoyed at him for being so oblivious, it’s part of what made Bob, Bob.
“Speak of the devil,” Phoenix muttered, gesturing to the WSO who was now making his way towards the two of you. “I’ll catch ya later, Romeo.”
With a wink, Phoenix was gone and Bob was now seated by your side. “Hey, Romeo.”
You just hummed in response.
“Have I done something wrong?” Bob asked suddenly.
With worried eyes, you turned to him. “What?”
“It’s just that you sat on the opposite side of the room from me and you haven’t talked to me all night. You’ve just been glaring at me from across the circle. Have I done something to upset you?”
You chewed on her bottom lip, feeling slightly guilty for being so rude to him now. “You haven’t done anything to upset me, Robby. Not knowingly.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means that you’re gorgeous!” You blurted, throwing your hands up in exasperation. “You should take it as a compliment that I’m talking to everyone in this room but you! Because you’re so unbelievably gorgeous that it actually hurts me, Robby! You’re kind and you actually have manners! I have fallen so hard for you that I don’t think I can ever get back up! And I’ve been trying to make moves on you for months but nothing seems to get through that thick skull of yours!”
Bob’s face flushed scarlet at the admission. “Y- you think I’m gorgeous?”
“That’s what you got out of that confession?” You questioned, exasperated.
“No, not just that. I just wasn’t expecting any of it. I’ve…uh…been trying to make moves on you, too. I just didn’t think you noticed.”
That comment caused your brows to furrow in confusion. “What? When?” You asked.
“Like when you tried to buy me the drink.”
“I don’t drink.”
Your face flushed slightly at the explanation. “Oh.”
“But I can go get you something if you want?” Bob offered.
Bob watched as a small smile appeared on your face, his heart fluttering.
“Yeah, that would be nice. A-“
Bob cut you off with a wide smile. “I know what you like.”
A few minutes later your favorite drink was in your hands and Bob was sitting next to you.
“Thanks, Robby.”
“Anytime, Romeo.”
“And when I taught you that combo in pool.”
Bob smiled proudly at you. “You got it, Romeo!”
“Yeah. Guess I did. Thanks, Robby.”
“Wanna play a game?” He asked, gesturing to the pool table.
“Sure. And you’re taking me to get ice cream when I win.”
“You’re pretty confident there, ain’t ya, Romeo?”
“Always, Robby,” you responded with a wink.
What you didn’t know is that Bob purposely let you win that game just so he could take you to go get ice cream afterwards. Sure, Hangman would make fun of him for losing, but it was all worth it when he saw you smile at the sprinkles adorning your prize.
“And when you sat on my lap that one time.”
“Thanks, Robby. Ever the gentleman.”
Bob just smiled at you. His mama taught him to be a gentleman and giving you his seat only felt right. As he stood next to your seat, he let his hand rest on the small of your back, tracing random patterns into the fabric of your shirt. It grounded the both of you, reminding you that the other was there.
Sometime in the middle of the conversation, his hand grabbed yours, intertwining your fingers as you continued your conversation with Fanboy. It was so natural that you barely even noticed, but the rest of the squad shared knowing looks when they saw your connected hands.
“Oh my god, Robby,” you mumbled quietly. The sudden realization that he had been trying to flirt with you the entire time made you feel dizzy. Maybe you had both been oblivious. “I was trying to hit on you when I did all of that!”
“I realize that now,” he laughed, shaking his head.
“God, how could we both be so stupid?” You asked with a fond smile.
“I don’t know. Maybe now we could…ya know, go get dinner sometime?” Bob proposed, still somehow shy.
“Dinner tomorrow. Ice cream tonight?” You suggested.
He nodded, a small smile gracing your face. “Yeah, ice cream tonight works.”
You smiled and grabbed his hand, leading him out of the Hard Deck, ignoring the whistles from your friends as you left together.
“Hey, (y/n)?” Bob mumbled as the two of you got out into the cool night air.
“Yeah?”
“I think you’re gorgeous, too.”

I was washing dishes when this came over me so bare with my nonsense for a minute
So like we all know the “you can have my back any day” “or you can have mine” line was based off those maverick and iceman guys from top gun who even had Quentin Tarantino do a monologue about how homoerotic that movie is
Anyways so that whole movie was like fighter jets galore right? (I haven’t watched it don’t stab me film bros)
And buddie’s scene was just after defusing that bomb in that dudes leg and then in 7x01 we had a parallel to this with them having to defuse the thing attached to WHAT? A fighter jet
Parallels are PRALLELING
See what I was thinking initially that led me here was if they do make a storyline with air rescue and either Eddie or buck being interested in it (or Tommy as some speculated -which I have mixed feelings about) there could be so many parallels and little references they could make but then I was like HOLD UP A MINUTE they already made a reference in 7x01

Maverick's Little Co-Pilot
Request: hi
I was wondering if you could write a mav x daughter where he took her to work with him (maybe the second movie but it is up to you) and she falls asleep in the control tower and bradley finds her and brings her to mav. maybe she didn't sleep that good the night before so mav doesn't want to wake her up so he just holds her and carrys on with his day but with a sleeping child. everyone on base thinks it is hilarious so no one takes him seriously lol. also maybe she wakes up at one point but he is able to help her back to sleep very quickly and the admirals think that it is funny how such a reckless pilot can be such a good dad.
100% your choice thank you for your time
Pairings: Maverick x Daughter!Reader
First Installment: Maverick's Little Co-Pilot
Second Installment: A Father's Fury
Warnings: Fluff

Maverick loved his little spitfire of a daughter. His little girl was the spitting image of him right down to her attitude. Once she set her mind to something forget about trying to change her mind. Her eyes were the same color as his, whatever color they may be.
In all honesty, if it were up to Maverick he would bring his little girl to work with him every day. Everyone loved his 3-year-old little girl. She was in preschool, the one on base, and it only went half a day so she was preoccupied during the morning and she usually went to Penny and Amelia during the afternoon. But the preschool called early Friday morning saying that they were closed due to a bug going around the school. It was too late for him to try and get a babysitter and Penny was gone with Amelia on a sailing trip. So when he got ready to go to work he got her ready to go with him but it was nowhere a peaceful night for either of them.
♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎
It was a Thursday and Maverick had just picked his daughter up for school. As he went in to get her, her teacher stopped him. "Good afternoon, Mr. Mitchell. I wanted to raise some concerns with you about your daughter." Ms. Lake said to him and that surprised him, she had never given him any problem before.
"Oh?" Maverick questioned.
"She has been very irritable and had been refusing to do anything we asked. Is there anything that could cause her to be like this?" Mrs. Lake asked and Maverick stood there to think.
"None that I know of. She was fine when I got her ready and dropped her off this morning." Maverick told the teacher and the teacher nodded.
"If there is anything that I can do, please don't hesitate to call." She said and Maverick nodded. She left him to go and greet some other parents, Maverick stood there watching his daughter and after a few minutes walked over to her. He bent down to her level.
"Hey, Sweetheart." He said to her and she instantly perked up.
"Daddy!" She practically yelled out to him and launched herself into his arms and thanks to his quick reflexes caught her. "Miss you." She said and Maverick smiled but it didn't quite reach his eyes. He needed to get to the bottom of her attitude.
"You ready to go?" He asked her and she nodded frantically. As they were walking Mrs. Lake looked at them and shrugged her shoulders and Maverick did the same back to her, this was a complete 180 from the girl just a few hours ago. He felt her nod her head and buried her face into his neck. He grabbed her backpack off of the hook and slung it over the shoulder that she wasn't occupying.
Maverick walked out of the building and to his blacked-out Chevrolet Silverado. He unlocked it and opened the back door to where her car seat sat. He still had his motorcycle but now that he had her it got used less and less. He still had his hanger but also had an actual house close to the base. When she came into his life his living situation and car situation changed... dramatically. He buckled her into the car seat and put her backpack beside her and got into the driverside, he buckled in and started the engine, and started his 40-minute drive home, more if there is traffic. "How was your day, Sweetheart?" Maverick asked her and she was quiet for a minute and he looked in the review mirror.
"It ok." She said in a quiet voice not looking at him and fidgeting with some of her hair. This worried her father. She was never like this. She was normally outgoing and for her to shut down and lash out was not right.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" He asked her. He was stopped at a stoplight so he could look at her longer and she shook her.
"No, Daddy." She said after a minute she added "Nothing wrong." She said and finally looked up at him. He nodded and then the light turned green and he paid attention to the road, something he started doing since he was driving with precious cargo.
Finally, they arrived home. Normally he would take her to Penny and go back to work but since it was actually raining for once in California they grounded all jets until the storm let up. He pulled into the driveway opened the garage and pulled in and killed the engine. He shut the garage as he was getting out and shut his door and then opened the driverside back door and unbuckled his daughter and they carried on into the house and grabbed her backpack. "Ok, Sweetheart. What do you want to eat?" He asked her as he put her down on the ground along with her backpack and toed off his shoes and helped her take hers off.
"Mac n' cheese." She said in a quiet voice this was not his energetic little girl he dropped off this morning.
"Ok. Do you want to help me make it?" He asked her and she shrugged her shoulders. "Do you want to go and watch some cartoons while it's being made?" He asked her and she nodded her head. "Ok, Sweetheart go ahead and sit on the couch I'll bring it to you when it's done." He said and she nodded and hurried off to the living room. She was fine leaving him since she knew he was just a short amount of feet away.
Once the food was done, he grabbed two bowls and filled them, and brought them to the living room. Y/N was lying down when she heard her dad come into the living room she sat up and he handed her a bowl, and sat down next to her. They were silent as they ate while watching reruns of Tom and Jerry. He needed to get to the bottom of this. "Sweetheart, your teacher said you were acting out. Why is that?" He asked her, noticing she was done eating, and so was he. He took the bowls and sat them on the coffee table.
"You in accident. You leave me." She said and the realization hit him hard.
"Sweetheart, where did you hear that?" Maverick asked her.
"Roo and Jakey." She said not looking at him with tears in her eyes. His heart melted. He was also going to have a talking to those two men.
"It's ok. I'm not going anywhere." He said and opened his arms and she crawled into them and snuggled into him. But he knew she wasn't listening and it was going to be a long night.
Throughout the rest of the day, they hung together and did some inside activities due to the rain. Each time he left the room she would panic and call out for Maverick. It was supper time and they were having her favorite, chicken strips and fries.
They had sat down at the dinner table and she was quiet. This really wasn't like his energetic 3-year-old. "Sweetheart you hungry?" He asked her and she shook her head no. "Can you at least eat something?" He asked almost pleading. She nodded and slowly ate her dinner once she had her fill she pushed her plate away. Maverick had long finished eating. "You done?" He asked her and she nodded her head. "Ok. Ready for a bath and bed?" He asked her she stayed quiet.
"No bath." She said and shook her head as Maverick got her from her seat and headed towards the bathroom. She started to squirm. "No bath, Daddy." She said and Maverick sighed.
"Please for me." He said and she looked into his eyes.
"Otay." She said with an eye roll. He reached the bathroom and sat her down while kneeling in front of her. He started to run the bath and found the right temperature and plugged the tub. Maverick watched it fill up while undressing her with little help from her. Once it was the right amount he stopped the water and sat her down in the tub. She didn't play much which made it easy for Maverick but also worried him. He washed her hair and gently cleaned her.
"Ok. Bedtime." He said and started to get her towel he unplugged the tub and let the water drain "Stand up." He said gently and she did. He stood up and wrapped the towel around her he dried her off some and picked her up and attacked her neck with kisses and she giggled. Once she was somewhat dry he carried her to her room and started to get her dressed. He sat on the bed and had her stand while he brushed out her hair.
Maverick got off the bed and pulled the covers back and picked up his daughter. He laid her in her bed and tucked her I'm. He grabbed a book and sat down leaning against the headboard and started to read to her until he was finished. He started to leave "Ok, Sweetheart. Have a goodnight and sweet dreams." He said and kissed her forehead but her brow furrowed.
"Daddy no leave." She said and started to cry. He stopped in his tracks.
"Sweetheart, you have to go to sleep." He said and she shook her head.
"No." She said and be sighed.
"I'll stay just until you fall asleep." True to his word he did just that. He got into the same position as he did when he read her a bedtime story. She snuggled into him and 20 minutes later she was out like a light... for now.
Once her breathing evened out he carefully got up. He quietly crept to the door and opened it, walked out, and cracked it. It was only 9:20 PM so he decided to do something work around the house until 10 PM.
9:30 PM rolled around and he heard little patters of feet coming out of his daughter's room. Maverick sighed. Y/N appeared in the living room where he was folding clothes. "Sweetheart. What are you doing up?" He asked and she looked at him and rubbed her eyes.
"Me no sleep without you." She said and he walked over to her and picked her up.
"At least try for me." Maverick asked and she shook her head.
"No." She said and pouted.
"Please?" He asked her.
"Na-uh." She said. He was getting frustrated but took some breaths and calmed down.
"You're going back to bed." He said sternly and walked to her bedroom with her in his arms. When he got there he gently laid her down and tucked her in, again, and walked out of the room. She stayed there for 10 minutes just enough time for him to put away some clothing of his. Then he heard little patters of feet, again. He turned to find her at the entrance of his bedroom. "Y/N." He warned and she gave him a look like 'What are you gonna do about it?' He picked her up and walked to her bedroom again and laid her down and wordlessly walked out of her room.
Maverick went back to his room to finish up and when 9:50 PM rolled around here came his daughter. He turned to greet her "Y/N Carole Mitchell. Bed now." He said sternly not raising his voice and picked her up and walked her back to her room once again.
10 PM rolled around he didn't hear anything so he got ready for bed and laid down. He was just about to go to sleep when he heard his name being called in almost a panic.
"DADDY!" Y/N yelled out and that had him shooting out of his bed and into her room. He flipped on the light and saw his daughter with tear tracks down her cheeks.
"Sweetheart, what's wrong?" He asked.
"You gone." She said and Maverick sighed.
"Oh, Sweetheart." He said and walked over to her and hugged her. "Do you want to go sleep in Daddy’s bed?" He asked and she nodded. He picked her up and walked to his room. When he got there he tucked her in and cuddled her. He fell asleep when he felt her breath even out.
They might've slept for an hour before she was tossing and turning and calling out to Maverick. He would wake up startled and then wake her up.
This kept happening each hour on the dot. Let's just say neither of them got any sleep. 7:30 AM rolled but both of them were already awake. They were in the kitchen, Maverick was nursing a coffee leaning back on the counter watching his daughter eat breakfast. They both had a tired look on their face and bags under their eyes.
Maverick zoned out and when his phone rang it started him. He picked it up and before he could say hello the automated voice of his daughter’s preschool came through. "This is Miramar Navy Preschool. Due to the flu going around the school will be closed for the day. We'll let you know when classes resume. Thank you and have a good day." Well, it looks like Y/N would be coming to work with him. "Sweetheart, it looks like you're coming to work with me today." Maverick said and she looked at him and smiled. He grabbed her backpack and started filling it with things he needed.
"Me like going to work with you." She said and that caused him to smile. After he had his coffee and she had her breakfast. Maverick got them both ready to go to work and headed that way.

When he got to work he pulled into his parking spot labeled Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, parked, killed the engine, and got out. He then got Y/N out and carried her along with her backpack filled with food, books, and toys to work with him. He walked into the building and into his office and closed the door. "Ok," he said and got down on her level after setting her down "If you can't be with me then you go to Rooster or Hondo. Understand?" He asked her and she nodded her head.
"Yes, Daddy." She replied as she looked into his same-colored eyes. He nodded and started to set her up next to him. He sat her on the chair and he got to work. The door was shut so anyone that needed to come had to knock. There wasn't much going on that morning until he needed to be up in his jet at noon.
Noon rolled around quicker than anticipated. He called Hondo in and a few minutes later he was strolling in. "What can I do for you Mav?" He asked then he saw Y/N.
"I was wondering if you could take her while I'm up in the air. Rooster is going to be up there with me along with most of Daggers. Also, new students are coming in." Maverick said while being preoccupied but aware of the conversation. He looked up when he was done talking.
"Of course Mav. Anywhere you want me to take her?" He asked and Maverick shook his head.
"Just keep her entertained." Mav said.
"What about the control tower?" Hondo asked Maverick.
"That's fine." He said and then turned to his daughter, who in turn looked at her father. "You stay with Hondo and if he leaves you in the control tower you stay there. Understood?" He asked her and she nodded her head.
"Yes, Daddy." She said and Maverick nodded and then stood up and picked her up. He brought her over to Hondo and handed her off. Once he started to leave she started throwing a fit and Maverick stopped.
"Sweetheart, I'll be back in a little bit. You'll get to see me up in the air in the control tower. I promise." Maverick said and she seemed to think it over and then rubbed her eyes, a sign of her being tired, she nodded her head. They went off their separate ways.
♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎
As Hondo was walking he got stares but nobody asked. Once he arrived at the control tower he walked inside and sat her down. "Remember what your dad said right?" He asked her when he bent down to her height and she nodded her head.
"Uh-huh." She said and he nodded.
"Good. Do you want to go and sit up front?" He asked and she nodded enthusiastically and he smiled so was so a Mini Maverick. He took her up there and sat her down next to the person in control and boy did she ask a lot of questions.
She got really excited when the jets began taking off, of course in Maverick fashion he buzzed the tower and she squealed excitedly. "Daddy!" She yelled out and looked out into the air with big round doe eyes.
After a few more rounds of questions, and the person in control answered patiently, the lack of sleep was getting to her. In no less than 20 minutes she was out like a light snoring softly.
Hondo walked up to them and saw her asleep. He didn't want to wake her so he quietly told the person next to her that he got called away and that she needed to stay here. Really what happened was that the young hotshot students made a bet just like the Daggers did and now had to do 200 pushups.
♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎♠︎
After everyone landed Maverick and the others did a post-flight check. Maverick walked to Hondo. "Where's Y/N?" He asked him.
"She fell asleep in the control tower." He said
"She should be good up there while I go and lecture these students. But I don't want her to overstay her welcome." He said sounding conflicted then Bradley walked over having heard the conversation.
"It's alright Mav. I'll go and get her. I'm done with everything. " He told him and he nodded.
"Jut don't wake her up. She didn't have a very good night last night." Maverick said and Bradley nodded.
"You got it Mav." Bradley said and headed towards the control tower. Once he got there he took the stairs two at a time. He opened the door and stood there for a minute and spotted her. He walked over to her and she was sound asleep.
"She wasn't too much trouble was she?" He asked the person in charge and they shook their head.
"Not at all." They said and Bradley smiled and nodded. He carefully picked her up without waking her and got her situated. She wiggled a little bit but stayed asleep snuggling into Bradley's neck. He began to move and tightened his hold as he began to descend the steps when he took the first step she woke up for just a moment.
"Roo?" She asked as she sleepily looked up at him.
"Yes, MJ?" He asked, he was the first to give her the nickname Maverick Jr. which than got shortened to MJ.
"Where we go?" She asked already leaning her head back onto her shoulders and wrapping her arms around his neck.
"We're going to your dad." He said and she hmmed and went back to sleep. He chuckled and started to descend the stairs once again. Bradley was the older brother she always wanted. He walked to Maverick's office but he wasn't there. Bradley continued to walk around the building with a sleeping 3-year-old until he found him in a classroom having just finished teaching. He walked in and Maverick lit up with a smile.
"Did she wake up?" He asked Bradley.
"Once but went right back to sleep afterwards." He told him and Maverick nodded. Maverick carefully unwrapped her arms from Bradley's neck and then transitioned her over to him and she clung to him like a koala. They both started to walk out of the room to Maverick's office when they got stopped by Cyclone, Warlock, and another visting Admiral.
"Captain Mitchell and Lieutenant Commander Bradshaw." Admiral West started "Maverick I must say it's interesting to see such a reckless pilot being a dad." He said in a teasing manner but they didn't take it like that. When the Daggers had successfully completed the mission they were prompted.
"As reckless as Maverick is in the skies. He's an even better dad. He's taken care of Y/N ever since she was a newborn." Warlock said taking up for Maverick. Admiral West scoffed.
"It is very true that he is a very good father. I respect him for that. I know it's not easy to balance a 3-year-old and a demanding job." Cyclone said as if Maverick and Bradley weren't there. Warlock turned to Maverick.
"How was training?" He asked him.
"It was good. If you want we can go to the conference room and discuss the training." Maverick suggested and they did just that. Bradley offered to take Y/N but Maverick didn't want to move her again since she was sleeping, and sleeping well.
The debriefing on the class and training was going well but Maverick and Bradley could tell that Admiral West was not taking him seriously. "Sorry to interrupt but is something wrong?" Maverick asked directing his attention to the visiting Admiral.
"How can I take you seriously with a child in your arms?" Admiral West asked and Bradley just about had enough and he didn't care if he got in trouble.
"You should take him seriously anytime no matter if he has his daughter in his arms or not. He's a great pilot and a great father." Bradley said and the Admiral looked at him with a shocked expression on his face.
"Excuse me Lieutenant Commander Bradshaw that is no way to treat your higher up." Admiral West said and before he could anybody else speak.
"I think it's time for you to leave, Admiral West. If you're not going to respect a Captain who successfully returned all aviators and WSOs home, then you need leave. Now." Cyclone said, and Admiral West scoffed and got up and left the room. Maverick was shocked that Cyclone would stand up for him.
Cyclone turned to Maverick and nodded. "You are dismissed. You can go back to your office and let that little girl sleep. We'll let you know when you're needed." Cyclone said.
"What about the other classes?" Maverick asked still shocked.
"Rooster will be taking care of those along with the other Daggers." Warlock said and Maverick nodded and both Cyclone and Warlock got up and left. Maverick looked at Bradley.
"That was brave of you." Maverick said
"Well, he had no right to speak about you like that." Bradley said.
"Thank you." He told Bradley
"Anytime, Mav." Bradley said to him. They got up and started in their own direction. Maverick arrived at his office where he sat down with his little girl in his arms, who hadn't moved even with all the talking.
Every now and then she would move in her sleep but wouldn't wake up. She would just snuggle into him deeper and that brought a smile onto his face. Maverick was just glad to have her in his life. Nothing could take her away from him, not now and not ever, she is his everything. Y/N was his mini co-pilot. He started on his plans for his next class that was going to be taught by Bradley and the others. It was just him holding his little girl in silence with the sounds of the occasional jet flying by. That was his paradise.

Your day had been shitty from the start. Bradley had left before you had a chance to wake up again but not to mention there was no note about his departure again. He usually wrote you a cute letter about where he was going and would kiss your forehead before leaving.
That wasn't the first time it'd happened.
You know exactly when it started. One day you woke up while he was getting ready to go to the base and waited with your eyes half-open and your body unmoving until he gave you your kiss to go back to sleep. That never happened. Bradley walked out of the door without so much as glancing at you.
It's okay. He forgot. It's no big deal—at least I'll get my note. But you never did get that note.
After that incident, the date cancellations started. "Sorry, babe, I have a few training exercises to complete, so I'll be home late. Go to the movies without me." "Ah fuck, darlin', you got me in a rough spot. The squad and I are going to the Hard Deck to celebrate Nix's successful mission. You're welcome to join!"
Something was happening with Rooster, and you desperately needed to find out what it was. Work? Maverick? Another woman? Your breath hitched at the thought, and you shook your head in annoyance.
There were so many other things you had to worry about right now, and the thought of Bradley cheating couldn't get in your way. I trust him with my life—he'd never do anything like that.
You pushed your apartment door open and stepped inside, immediately letting go of the shredded grocery bags. Another sigh escaped your mouth as you watched the oranges and apples roll down the ground for the second time.
The first time the fruit fell out on the street was before you got to your building. The apples mostly rolled down the road for a good few seconds before you could put them back in the bag.
You had to wash them before Rooster got home, for he has a habit of eating them off the bowl without caring if they're clean or dirty.
After cleaning them, you placed the fruit in their respective bowls and moved on to the rest of your groceries. You hadn't even realised Bradley was behind you until you felt arms wrap around your waist.
You startled, moving away from the counter and into his arms. A content sigh escaped, and you closed your eyes, relishing in how his warm chest felt on your back. The kiss on your temple that follows leaves your heart a sputtering mess.
You groan, discontented, when he moves away, opening your eyes and turning around just in time to see him biting down on the apple.
"No, Bradley, don't eat that!" You try to stop him, but it's too late.
"Why not?" He speaks when he's swallowed. "It's delicious."
"God, no. The apples fell on the street right before I got here. I've washed them, but still, you should eat them without the peel."
"Seem fine to me." He shrugs.
"Well, they're not," you snap. "So, let me peel it." You reach to grab it, but he pulls it higher, where you can't touch it.
"What is it with you? You know I've eaten more disgusting things and survived, so what's your problem?!" He looks at you with a mix of annoyance and confusion.
You grit your teeth. "My problem is that you won't let me do a simple thing for you. Why do you have to act like such a baby?!"
"What?" Bradley is left breathless at your tone.
You admit there's no reason to get this worked up over fruit, but the stress-filled day and now, Rooster not listening to you was getting too much.
He tries again. "What's the matter, baby?"
"Nothing's the fucking matter, Bradshaw!" You're even surprised by how loud your voice is.
"Jesus Christ," Bradley mutters. "I'll be at the Hard Deck if you need anything." He grabs his keys and wallet, and before you know it, you hear his Bronco speed down the road.
God, what have you done?
You take up on his invitation (was it an invitation?) to come to the Hard Deck in the late evening. Well, you couldn't have come, for it's Nix's birthday today and you loved her too much to miss it.
Your dress is one of Rooster's favourites, and you hoped that if he noticed it, it'd make the apology you composed in your head better.
After greeting everyone, surprisingly even Hangman, you walk to Penny. You're looking around the packed bar in an attempt to find Rooster while Penny reaches down for your favourite beer.
"Thanks." You spare her a glance.
Before you can ask her if she has seen Bradley, she points to the other side of the bar where he's laughing with a...a woman. He's talking to a woman about your age, and they're laughing.
You feel weak. Your knees almost give out, your eyes slightly widening at what you're watching. Whatever smile you were giving Penny and your friends is gone, for your lips have turned downwards in the most saddening way possible.
He hasn't noticed you staring yet, but you can't look away. The girl is beautiful—dark hair, tall, and skinny. Her dress is much better than yours, and you can see her body shines with jewellery.
"That's my cousin." Someone whispers in your ear. You turn to look, and it's Phoenix.
Your head snaps back to them when the cousin laughs loudly. Wetness has gathered around your eyes, and you don't know if it's because you haven't blinked in so long or because your heart is twisting painfully in your chest.
"U-Um. I'm going for some fresh air." Your voice is shaky, and you don't dare look at Nix as you speed walk out of the suffocating bar. You make your way to the last steps of its backdoor, dropping on the sand-filled wooden steps.
Unbeknown to you, Bradley had seen the way you left the bar. He looked at Phoenix, who only shook her head disappointingly as an answer and then motioned him to find her. He didn't hesitate.
The beer was cold in your hands, so you set it beside you. You desperately wanted to go home but felt guilty when you thought about leaving. Phoenix was one of your only non-testosterone-filled friends, and it wasn't her cousin's fault for talking to Rooster. It could've been anyone on the team.
Bradley could never cheat, the rational voice in your head kept grasping at the little hope you had left. He was just making casual conversation. Right? Right.
You failed to comprehend the footsteps behind you until the person stopped and sat next to you. The familiar cologne drifted to your nostrils, and you decided to keep your head forward, wanting to hide the unstoppable tears that ran down your cheeks.
"Hi," he tries first. "Nix told me you'd be here."
You hummed, sipping your beer. "Yeah, well, I saw you were busy again, so I decided to let you have your fun." Your voice is barely collected.
"What does that even mean?" You shrug.
"You know, I don't understand what's with you. I asked you about it, and you yelled at me, so it has to do something with me. I can't resolve the issue if you don't tell me what's wrong, sweetheart."
Rooster's body has half turned toward yours now, trying to get a look on your face, but you hide it from him.
"It's a silly reason." There's no way you're telling tell a naval pilot you're lonely and sad without him. He has bigger problems than this. "Sorry for yelling at you. I did want to peel the apple for you; so you don't get sick or something."
"Wh-What? That's it?"
"Oh, um—I'm sorry for calling you a baby? You're a grown man, and I shouldn't take my anger out on you, especially when you're around only once every week."
You didn't mean for the last sentence to come out, but it did anyway, and the sarcasm was evident.
"That's it!" Rooster exclaims. "It's because I'm always working, isn't it?" When you don't answer, he knows it's true.
"You know I do this shit for you! So we can have enough money to buy your dream house in whichever place you'd like. So you can have food and water and clothes. You knew what you were signing up for, so why are you doing this right now?!"
"Because I miss you, Bradley! I fucking miss you—there I said it!" You inhale, holding the tears back. "Of course, I don't want you to quit the job that you love so much! But I've been waiting for so long, after every mission, for you to come home, greet me, and spend time with me, but you don't!
And I don't know if I'm the problem—are you tired of me? Are you not happy with me anymore? Do you have another girl that's more exciting than me? What is it?!"
At this point, your voice is on the verge of breaking. You still haven't looked at Rooster. A tear escapes your eye, but he doesn't notice.
"Baby..." He moves to hold you.
You push him away.
"N-No, Rooster. Just tell me."
His heart breaks when he hears your voice crack. His body goes rigid, and his breath hitches. Have you been crying this whole time? He reaches for you again, being more gentle this time, and you let him. He turns your head and tilts it upward to meet his eyes.
Bradley can feel how wet your cheeks are as soon as he touches you. His stomach drops. He made you cry?
"Sweetheart, you're crying." You bite your lip to keep your breaths steady but look away, fearing you'll burst if you don't.
"It's silly." It's almost a whisper.
"No, no, no, no, you're crying," he says your name and your eyes meet his unconsciously.
"I made you cry."
"Well, I made you angry."
"Do you seriously believe that I'm not happy with you?" Your head faintly moves affirmatively.
He stares in disbelief for a second, but then his face morphs into something sweeter. Both of his palms find your cheeks and lightly squeeze.
"When I picture myself happy, I see you. Not planes, not Mav, not our friends. I only see you."
"Really?" You whisper.
"Yes."
"Then why have you been so distant? Why don't you kiss me anymore? Where did your notes go?" You know you sound like a child, but you don't care.
"I-I thought they were corny. Didn't want you to get sick of me. And as for the kisses, I thought you didn't want them. You pushed me away in your sleep once, but now that I think about it, you were dead to the world—so it might've been an accident." Your chest felt lighter now.
"A-And the girl?" You couldn't help but ask.
Rooster laughed. "I told you, baby. You're the only one for me. Plus, she doesn't swing my way." He wiggles his eyebrows, and you can't help but laugh.
"There's that beautiful laugh I haven't heard in days!"
He lets go of your face, and it falls on his lap as you try to hide the blush creeping up your cheeks.
"I love you, Roos," you mutter, a small smile on your lips.
"I love you more, sweet girl. Next time you feel lonely, remember I'm only one call away." You nod.
Bradley's fingers travel through your hair, and you let him comb it. This is the first time in weeks that you have felt peaceful. You didn't want this moment to end.

Chapter 1: In My Head
The week passed in a blur of jets and clouds and sunshine. By Thursday, you were finally able to choke down the feelings you had for Jake, just in time for him to wreck them on Friday.
As the squadron sat in the briefing room Thursday evening, Cyclone came in, whispered something to Maverick, and then left.
"Well, folks, it looks like we need someone to make a late afternoon flight before they head home to test out some new software. Any takers?" Maverick asked.
There was a collective groan before Jake's hang shot up. "Glow and I can." He volunteered the two of you with a smile. He knew that you loved flying in the afternoon as the sun was starting to set. You always had.
"Are you okay with that, Glow?" Maverick asked you. "Yes, sir," you responded. Maverick sent everyone else home for the day. He met the two of you out on the tarmac to prep you for what you would be doing.
"Also, Admiral Simpson said whoever stayed late today could have tomorrow off. So, it looks like you two get a three day weekend." Maverick smiled at the pair of you. You and Jake exchanged a high- five before he helped you up and got himself situated.
The evening sky was absolutely beautiful as the two of you flew. The sun painted it in shades of pinks and oranges, and purples. The hues danced off the water and floated around the jet. You couldn't help but smile as Jake piloted back towards base.
"I can see why this is your favorite time to be up here." He said to you. "It's gorgeous."
"It is. There is just something about the afterglow that always gets me." You told him. And you meant it. In more ways than one.
After landing, showering, and changing, you ducked out of the locker room to find Jake leaning against the wall waiting on you. "Oh!" You exclaimed when you saw him. "I thought you would have already left by now."
"I was waiting on you, silly." He smiled before falling in step beside you. He lazily tossed an arm over your shoulders as you walked. His hair was still slightly damp, and you could smell his cologne. The scent of oak, whiskey, and tobacco filled your olfactory receptors. It was mixed with a hint of sunshine and salt water. A combination that was so perfect, so unique, so—Jake.
"So I was thinking." Jake began. "That's terrifying." You snorted. He lightly shoved you before pulling you back to him. "But seriously. I don't have any pressing issues I need to take care of tomorrow, and I assume you don't. So, I was thinking, what if we spent the day together?" Jake asked you as you reached your cars in the parking lot.
"And do what?" You asked him. "'We could get breakfast at that diner you love, and we could take the tops off of your jeep and cruise for a bit to our favorite ice cream place, hit the beach, get dinner, oh and Phoenix told me about the movie she and Lukas saw over the weekend. I thought we would check it out and maybe skip the Hard Deck because I, for one, don't want to hear Rooster bitching about how we got the day off." Jake smiled. He had the whole thing planned out.
"So? What do you think?" He asked you with a smile.
You knew this was a bad idea. If you were up in the jet, you'd have warning lights going off everywhere, and you'd be ejecting. "Sounds like a plan. What time do I need to pick you up if we are taking my car?" You asked him.
"Now, Glowy, you no good and well that I'm not going to let you pick me up." I'll be at your house at 9:30 sharp." He stated. You rolled your eyes and agreed. Jake pulled you into a tight hug before climbing into his Silverado and leaving.
....................
You set your alarm for 6:30 the next morning. Even though he said he would be there around 9:30, Jake Seresin was notoriously early for everything.
You got up and took a shower before drying and styling your hair. You took your time dawning some simple makeup for the day. After your finished with your hair and your face, you packed a bag for the day.
You grabbed towels, sunscreen, a change of clothes, some snacks and a few other odds and ends that you thought you might need.
Jake had mentioned the beach, so you slipped a simple purple two-piece on before deciding on a tea-length, bright pink floral sundress. You slipped on a pair of sandals and spritzed your favorite perfume on your wrists and neck.
You were giddy as you were getting ready. You had to keep reminding yourself that this wasn't a date. Just two friends enjoying an unexpected day off.
At nine on the dot, there was a knock at your door. "Good morning, Jake." You greeted him as you opened it. "Morning Y/N. I brought coffee and these." Jake smiled as he walked in. He handed you your favorite iced carmel latte and a bundle of fresh daisies. "They're your favorite, right?" He nodded to the flowers.
"Yeah, um—why did you get me these?" You ask him a little confused.
"My mother told me you never go to a lady's house without flowers." Jake stated matter of factly. "Plus, the farmers market is right near the coffee shop, and I saw these and thought of you." He smiled.
You quickly turned away from him to find a vase. You wouldn't let him see the pink rise in your cheeks.
After securing the flowers, he promptly stole the keys from their hook in your hallway and pulled the tops off of your jeep. He secured them in your garage. The weather was supposed to be bright and sunny all day, so you didn't bother storing them in the trunk.
You tried to argue with him that you should be the one driving, but he simply shook his head stating thst he was the pilot and you would forever be his back seater, or in this case, passenger princess.
..................
The weather was spectacular as the two of you drove to your favorite diner. You laughed and joked as the two of you feasted on bacon, eggs, potatoes, and French toast.
"I'm so glad that I got orders to come here. Lemoore sucked without you. The pilot they assigned to me after you got recalled was even more of a dick than you." You told Jake as you speared a potato square.
"Really? I doubt that." He chuckled. "And it is great that you got moved here." He smiled. Jake prayed you didn't catch the guilt behind his eyes.
It was no accident that you ended up in San Diego with him.
When pilots were being recalled for the uranium plant mission, the rule was that no pairs of pilots and their weapons systems officers could be called together. They didn't want to leave the original squadrons hanging for too long. That's why Jake flew a singe seater. He refused to have anyone in his back seat besides you.
It killed him to leave you. So, after getting word that he would be permanently stationed at Top Gun, he begged asked Cyclone and Warlock if they could transfer you, and he could get back in a two-seater.
Admiral Simpson and Admiral Bates reluctantly agreed, but it worked out for the better. Jake was much more tolerable with you around.
After you finished breakfast, Jake swiped the bill before you could set your card down, claiming once again that his mother would have his head if he let a lady pay. You had to take a deep breath and remind yourself that this wasn't a date.
You silenced the warning bells once again before getting into your car.
The two of you drove along the coast, stopping at a few shops and sent selfies to the rest of your friends who were stuck at work.
You had ice cream on the boardwalk for lunch. The two of you sat side by side and watched the waves roll in. Jake had asked you something, and when you turned to answer, he noticed you at the smallest smear of mint chip on your face. He leaned in with his thumb to brush it away, but he lingered before pulling back. His eyes darted to your lips, and he leaned forward ever so slightly.
The caution lights flashed before your eyes. No, he wasn't about to kiss you. Not here. Not out in the open like this. Your brain was screaming at you to eject.
You pulled away from him and cleared your throat. He pulled back and coughed before licking the melted ice cream from his thumb.
"So, beach?" You asked him after a beat of silence.
"Yeah, beach" He nodded.
The two of you tossed your cones before going back to your car and grabbing the beach bag you'd packed. You slipped off your sundress, and Jake's breath caught in his throat when he saw you in your purple swimsuit. His was barely able to keep his tough guy charade up as he helped you apply sunscreen.
The two of you froliced through the waves, splashing and laughing until the sun began to sink. After a quick use of the beach showers and a pit stop in the changing room, both of you were relatively sand free as you sat back in your car. You'd pulled your hair into a high ponytail and were humming along to the music as Jake drove the two of you towards the movie theater.
After getting more popcorn and candy than necessary, and two icees that would give you the worst brain freeze ever, the two of you found yourselves in the last row of an almost empty theater.
Jake had moved the armrest separating your seats out of the way, claiming it was easier to share snacks that way. But you didn't miss the way his bare knee bumped against yours through the slit of your sundress.
..................
At the Hard Deck, the rest of the Daggers finally concluded that the two of you probably weren't showing up tonight.
"It's not fair," Fanboy groaned as he leaned over the pool table.
"I mean, they did volunteer to take a later test flight yesterday, so it is kind of fair." Bob shrugged.
"Bob is right. We all had the same opportunity." Payback stated.
"So what do you think they are doing that is better than hanging out with us?" Coyote asked the group.
"Probably fucking." Rooster shrugged causing half of the group to choke on their drinks.
"Jesus, Bradshaw. Have some tact, man." Payback scolded him.
"What, I'm just saying what we are all thinking." Rooster defended himself. "Glow assures me that they are just friends. Very good friends." Phoenix tells the group.
"Yeah, and I'm a front seater." Fanboy laughed.
"Nix, you can't really believe that. I mean, haven't you seen they way they look at each other? Or noticed how they always leave together from here? And they are together right now?" Rooster pressed.
"Rooster does have a point." Bob chimed in.
"So I have a theory, well three, of what the situation could be." Payback began. "I'm going to present them in order from least plausible to most likely." He continued.
"One, they are secretly dating or maybe married. That would explain why she got transferred to here from Lemoore. Two, they really are just good friends and have worked together so long that they act like a couple. Or, three, and what I feel is most likely, they are hooking up, and one of them, Hangman, wants to keep it more casual, while ignoring the fact that the other, Glow, has feelings for him." Payback finished.
"Well, I don't know what it is. All I know is that Hangman is way easier to deal with when she's around." Phoenix said as she held up her beer. Everyone mumbled out an agreement as they went about their pool game.
.................
Nat was right. The movie was great, and you were glad you had seen it.
You and Jake were walking back to your car as the last rays of the sun began to dip below the horizon.
"Ugh, the sunsets here are so much prettier than the ones in Lemoore." You told Jake.
"Yeah, they are." He agreed with you. "Looks like some clouds are rolling in. We'd better get a move on." He said. You took note of the weather and agreed. You definitely didn't want to get caught in the rain with no cover on your jeep.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. The two of you were about halfway back to your house when the heavens opened up and rain came pouring down. Jake desperately tried to find an overpass for shelter, but there was nothing in sight.
He broke a few traffic laws to get you home, sliding into your garage on two wheels. The two of you sat there for a moment, soaking wet and out of breath.
You shared a look before breaking out into a laugh.
As the laughter faded, the air shifted between the you. The electricity flowing wasn't just the lightening from the storm. Desire radiated off your bodies as you both surged forward and connected your lips.
You basked in the salty, sweet taste of him, as you tried to ignore the warning bells going off. But eventually, you gave in and pulled away from him.
"We can't keep doing this, Jake." You told him.
"I know." He replied as he cupped your jaw, dragging his lips almost criminally slow against your skin. You could feel the subtle hint of the stubble on his chin.
Heat flushed in your cheeks and spread across you from the tips of your ears to the curl of your toes. You felt like you were doused in gasoline, and his touch was the strike of the match, ready to burn you down.
"One last time?" You breathed out.
"One last time." He whispered against the shell of your ear.

Part 4 Part 6
Tumblr media
Walking into the base this morning you found yourself feeling all giddy and joyful. Smiling the entire morning without even realizing it. Making admiral Simpson look at you with an extremely confused look, and you just simply ignored him.
You hadn't felt like this in such a long time and you knew exactly who was making you feel this way. A certain browned eyed mustache hunk of a man named Bradley Bradshaw that's who.
Ever since last night he was all you could think about up until the morning. You were probably just going to get your heart broken all over again, but right now you didn't care. Bradley had kissed you and you felt your cheeks heating up every time you thought about it.
You had always imagined what it would be like to kiss him, and you never thought in your wildest dreams that you would ever get that chance. You were starting to feel like the luckiest girl in the entire world.
As you made your way into the training room everyone was already seated. Stopping at the doorway everyone turned around to look at you. Bradley smiled at you to which you returned but it faded when you made direct eye contact with Hangman who had a toothpick in his mouth twirling it around with his tongue.
Hangman had a pretty good idea that there was something going on with you and Bradley or that something already happened. He was determined to find out and was going to use it to his advantage in any way it took.
He was the type of guy that would use people to get what he wanted. Walk all over them and stomp them into the ground if he had to. There wasn't any way he was going to let anyone get in the way of him being the pilot to lead this mission.
Walking down the aisle you could feel eyes on your backside. Placing your things on the desk as you gathered your things to prepare for what Maverick was wanting to teach today. There was small chatter amongst the other pilots, but there was two pilots who were staring at you.
"Good morning Frostbite." Hangman greeted giving you a wink and out of the corner of your eye you saw Bradley glare at him.
"Lieutenant Seresin." You responded back not even bothering to call him by his call sign.
"How are you darling?" He asked you the pet name irritated you unlike whenever Bradley would call you that.
He knew exactly what he was doing when he was talking to you. Simply trying to get a rise out of Bradley hoping he would show his anger so he could use it as ammunition. He had an agenda right now and you didn't like it.
"I was doing just fine until you started talking." You shot back at him making him and others laugh that you didn't put up with his crap.
"Let me take you on a date." His words almost had you choking on your spit and it came out more of as a demand rather than a question.
"No." Immediately answering while Bradley was smiling at you for being able to stand up for yourself like that, but hangman wasn't taking no for an answer.
"Oh come on darling." He pushed knowing exactly who he was trying to piss off. "I know you have a thing for pilots."
This caught everyone's attention even more hearing him say that. Bradley looked nervous thinking Hangman was about to uncover this secret you didn't want anyone to know about. Both of you waiting until the moment he revealed what he had suspicions about.
You weren't going to let Hangman talk to you like that. He was trying to act like he had this power over you, and you would be quick to remind him you were in charge on whether he could fly this mission or not.
"Good pilots." Now you were becoming a little defensive but you had to be careful since Hangman was already suspicious. "Not asshole pilots who think they're better then everybody else."
Grinning so widely he showed off his pearly white teeth. He was about to say something else when Maverick and some of the other admirals walked in. Turning your attention back to the older men who were now standing by you.
"Good morning aviators." Maverick greeted everyone his eyes focusing on Bradley giving him a small smile to which he surprisingly returned.
Now that Bradley and you were starting to make emends and becoming friends again it was time for him and Maverick to do the same. It probably wouldn't be as simple since both of them were stubborn as all get out.
"Today we're going to show you what this missions all about." Pointing to the large computers screens behind him that turned on. "We'll be reviewing the path you'll have to fly and we've created the same path here that we'll have you practice on."
Watching as the screen changed showing a small jet flying the course they would have to fly. It seemed a little more intense than what you were prepared for. Quickly looking over to Bradley who caught your eye giving you a small smile letting you know it was going to be okay.
"What we expect you to do may seem damn near impossible." Maverick continued to speak everyone focusing their attention back on him. "Phase one of this mission will be a low level ingress attacking in two plane teams.
"You'll be flying along this narrow canyon to your target where radar guided surface to air missiles will be defending the area."
"Which is why they were designed to protect the sky and not the area below." He informed everyone keeping his back towards the pilots.
"That's because the enemy knows nobody is crazy enough to try and fly that low." Bradley spoke up your eyes focusing on him as Maverick turned to look at him also.
"Which is exactly what we're going to train you to do." Bradley looked away as Maverick maintained eye contact and Hangman watched the whole thing with a sly smile.
"Your altitude will be 100 feet maximum." That had some pilots looking at each other like that was impossible. "If you exceed this altitude radar will spot you and you're dead."
Watching as the jet on the screen get shot down and you found yourself wincing at the image. All you could picture was yourself and Bradley being the one shot down. Bradley briefly looked over at you to make sure you were okay. Straightening yourself up you gave him a slight nod.
"Your airspeed will be 660 knots minimum and your time to target will be two and a half minutes."
"That's because fifth generation fighters wait at an air base nearby."Pointing towards the screen again to show off their jets and they looked intimidating and deadly.
"In a head to head with these planes in your F-18s and you're dead." Unaware that Maverick glanced at you when he turned around to face the looks of frightened pilots.
"Which is why you need to get in there hit your target and get out." Watching as Bradley looked over at Hangman who was just smirking. "Before these planes even have a chance of catching you."
It worried you that Bradley would even be attempting this kind of mission in the first place. To hear it spoken out loud raised your greatest fears. Before your failed mission you would have scoffed and joked how easy all this sounded, but now it absolutely petrified you.
"So for todays lesson we're gonna be taking it easy on you." He had this look on his face like he knew this was already going to be a challenge. "Maximum altitude will be 300 feet and time to target 3 minutes."
You could have almost laughed at some of their reactions like how in the hell is that going easier. He knew he had to get them to face reality that their lives were on the line, and this wasn't going to be easy. Someone may not come back from this mission, and that somebody may be Bradley.
"Lieutenant Kazansky will be keeping notes of who has the best time and can achieve these goals." Everyone looked to you as you stood there with a stoic look. "She'll report back to me with your scores."
"She'll also be giving you tips and telling you what exactly it is that you're doing wrong." Hearing that kind of felt like a pat on the shoulder, and you're not gonna lie it made your head a little bigger.
Maverick gave you a confident nod to not be worried of freaked out. Nobody could tell what your mind and body were thinking on the outside, but on the inside you were the complete opposite of calm and collected.
Telling yourself to remain strong not wanting to scare the other pilots away. Since part of you wondered if this was something they could even achieve. Doubting for just a small tiny bit that they wouldn't be able to pull this off.
"Good luck." He looked at everyone with a hopeful reassuring smile.
"I want Phoenix, Bob and Coyote up first." He instructed and they stood up putting on brave faces.
Watching as they walked out and the other pilots stood awaiting to be called next. Gravitating towards Bradley as you stood closer to him just wanting to run up to him, but the look on Hangman's face prevented you from doing so.
Lingering around the desk and acting like you were doing something waiting for everyone to leave while Bradley acted like he was slowly walking out of the room. Of course as soon as the last person was out which was Hangman Bradley turned to face you with a dopey smile.
"Are you okay?" He asked once he stood in front of you pointing towards the screen. "I mean like with what's going on."
"Yeah no I'm fine." Shrugging your shoulders trying to act nonchalant. "It was just a little intense to hear out loud ya know?"
"Is that why you didn't want to lead this mission?" He couldn't help but ask and honestly you weren't mad he even asked.
"There's a couple reasons I didn't want to lead." Your voice softer than you expected and he knew exactly what you meant.
"You knew it was going to be tough." It wasn't a question and he knew just what you were thinking and telling yourself.
"I just can't lead another failed mission." Shaking your head as you looked away from him.
"Are you ever going to tell me what happened?" He genuinely wanted to know and hear about what you had faced although the thought of hearing what happened to you broke his heart.
"Soon." Was all you said as you gave him a pathetic attempt of a smile and he knew it was hard for you. "Are you worried about this mission?"
"Nah I'm not too worried about it." Looking over at him with an are you serious look which made him laugh. "I'm not besides I doubt he'll even pick me."
"Why he wouldn't he pick you?"
"A man who pulls my papers for whatever reason is most likely to not pick that said person to fly a dangerous mission." His tone was condescending and matter of factly.
"You're an amazing pilot Bradley of course he'll pick you." As much as you hated saying that out loud it was true he was a good pilot and cared about his fellow pilots. "Especially since I'm the note keeper."
"Are you now?" Quirking an eyebrow at you as he stood directly in front of you crossing your arms over your chest.
"Yeah so watch how you talk to me." Pointing a finger at his chest as you tried to act tough.
"I'll be on my best behavior I promise." Putting his hands up in mock surrender making you giggle at his silly side that you loved.
"I'd hate to kick your ass in the sky again." You joked making his mouth open and eyes go wide trying to hide his smile.
"Wow you gotta do me like that sweetheart." He acted like he was hurt but his hands grabbed your sides and pulled your body closer to his making you gasp. "That wasn't very nice of you."
His voice lowered as you placed your hands on his chest when you saw he was leaning forward. Just when you thought you two were going to kiss what sounded like boots echoed down the hall to the room you two were at.
Pulling apart from each other so fast to see Hangman's cocky grin enter in the room. Standing there looking at the two of you like he just interrupted something personal and intimate. Waiting for him to say something smart or annoying or ask a stupid question.
"You're up next Rooster." He nudged his head to the side as he kept his focus solely on him and not you. "With Fanboy and Payback."
"Phoenix, Bob and Coyote just got in the air they want to get you geared up and go over some things" Thanking your lucky stars they didn't start yet so you could observe them and have notes for everybody.
The last thing you wanted was to get so distracted you mess something up, and they dismiss you from this mission. That would be embarrassing and an absolute shame to your family name. Not wanting to disappoint your father, Maverick or Bradley.
Sighing with relief that at least he wasn't going to be doing the first course with Hangman. Bradley nodded as he left your side giving you a reassuring smile, and slowed his steps as him and Hangman came face to face before both of them took off down the hall.
Letting out a loud exhale as you gathered your things to watch the other pilots and take your notes of everything. This was the part you really didn't want to do since you hated judging someone else on their flying capabilities.
While you were taking notes of everybody and marking down what they did wrong or things they need to work on you were oblivious to a certain someone in the back watching you. His eyes kept glancing over at you especially when Bradley got in the air.
Once everyone was done Maverick looked over your notes, and called all the pilots back to the training room. He looked disappointed and frustrated, and everyone had their heads bowed in shame of course except Hangman.
Bradley was the only one to get his target and get out of there, but he was about a minute late. You knew Maverick would be watching as well so you couldn't lie. You knew he was going to lecture every single person in that room even Bradley.
Asking everyone why they were dead and looking at your notes to see what they were doing wrong. All of them beating themselves up about it for failing even when it was just the first attempt. They all hated failing even if it was just practice that's what any pilots feels when flying.
"Why are you dead?" He asked Bradley who just stared at him. "You're team leader up there so why are you and your team dead?"
"Sir he's the only one who made it to the target." Phoenix jumped in to defend him which you were kind of thankful for.
"Yeah a minute late." Maverick fired back not taking any excuses. "He gave the enemy time to shoot him down and he is dead."
"You don't know that." Bradley fought back not putting up with the lecture. "You can't know that."
Hearing Maverick say out loud that Bradley was dead had your insides churning. It was this horrible feeling that took over your whole body and this thick blanket of darkness consumed your body. Hopefully nobody was paying attention to you and couldn't see it on your face.
"Jesus you're not flying fast enough." Hangman piped up from his seat leaning his hand back as he groaned. "You don't have a second to waste up there."
"We made it to the target." Bradley chose to ignore Hangman as he continued to stare down Maverick.
"And enemy aircraft had time to intercept you on your way out." Maverick was beginning to get angry at Bradley now thinking he wasn't taking this seriously.
"Then it's a dog fight." Maybe Bradley wasn't taking any of this seriously or how dangerous this mission was.
"Not against fifth generation fighters." He scoffed at him in disbelief.
"We would still have a chance." Bradley just couldn't seem to be wrong and had to be right.
"In an F-18." Maverick started to argue Hangman looking between both men amused.
"It's not the plane sir." Bradley cut him off and you knew exactly where he was going with this and you hated hearing them talking like this to each other. "It's the pilot."
"Exactly."
Maverick realized as soon as those words left his mouth what Bradley was really trying to say. Both of them staring at each other silently exchanging words nobody else could hear. The room was so quiet you could drop a feather and hear it.
You couldn't help but wonder if that's how Bradley felt with your failed mission and losing your wingman. If that was somehow your fault not being there for him to get him out of their alive. You were the team leader up there and you are responsible for every life up there.
It felt like a slap to your face to hear that coming from his mouth. Your bottom lip trembling as you fought hard to not cry in front of everyone. Bradley looked at your reaction and he knew exactly what he just said also said to you.
His face softened wishing he could take it back but it was too late, and it was raise too many eyebrows. Watching as his Adam's apple bobbed when he gulped turning his gaze away from you back to Maverick.
"There's more than one way to fly this mission." He kept arguing wanting to prove to Maverick he could do this.
"You really don't get it do you." Hangman spoke up again making you shut your eyes wanting this to all be over. "A pilot who flies like Maverick or Frostbite here, or they don't come back."
Glancing towards Phoenix and Bob silently telling them they were the latter. They both scoffed and shook their heads not wanting to see into his web.
"Now look I don't mean to criticize your just conservative that's all." Hangman was setting the trap and you just hoped Bradley didn't fall for it.
"Lieutenant." Maverick started to interrupt but neither of them were having it.
"We're going into a combat mission nobody has ever seen." He looked back to Bradley who refused to make eye contact with him. "Not even Maverick or Frostbite here."
"There's no time to be thinking about the past." Glancing at Maverick and then back at Bradley who was now glaring over at him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He knew exactly what he meant but he just dared him to say something so he could find any excuse to hit him.
"Rooster." Maverick warned him knowing exactly what he was thinking cause he thought it too.
"I can't be the only one who knows that Maverick here flew with his old man." Soon as those words left his mouth you don't know who was more angry Bradley or Maverick.
The tension in the room was so thick you could literally cut it with a knife. This wasn't looking good and you could see it ending with Bradley punching Hangman or attempting to. He was holding himself back as you watched him squeeze the life out of his arm rests.
"Lieutenant that's enough."Maverick tried controlling the situation when he knew where this was headed.
"Or that Maverick was flying when his old man-" Next thing you know Bradley went flying out of his seat directly towards Hangman.
"Hey hey that's enough." Maverick shouted as he stood between the two men.
"You son of a bitch." Bradley screamed throwing his hand towards him.
His face was red and the veins in his neck were now protruding out. Phoenix and Bob held him back as much as they could. Hangman stood there with a smirk on his face knowing what he did.
The men standing in front of Hangman looked for nervous about Bradley possibly hitting them. Standing by the desk just wanting to comfort Bradley and tell him it'll be okay, but you knew that wouldn't be a good idea.
It hurt you to see him like this and that he let Hangman unwind him like that. If there wasn't anybody else in this room Bradley probably would have kicked his ass, and Hangman would have put up a fight.
"I'm cool I'm cool." Putting his hands up as he chuckled was stepping up to Bradley who was still being held back.
You figured the two of them would dish it out on their own time, but you never expected Hangman to pull something like this. This was not at all how you expected this day to go, and quite frankly it was tiring. You've always hated listening especially watching people fighting.
The two of them staring each other down Bradley eyes wide like a vicious animal who was caged and ready to be let out. Looking the man up and down before he turned his head in your direction Bradley following his line of sight.
"Oh I haven't forgotten about you." Everyone's eyes on you now as you stood there like a deer caught in the headlights. "How can we listen to someone like you?"
"Jake leave her out of this." Both Maverick and Bradley warned him although you didn't know exactly what he was going to say. "Leave her alone."
Surely he didn't know about your failed mission since only a couple knew about it. Maybe he was going to bring up something else, surely he wouldn't do that to you.
Everyone was looking from him to you with confused looks on their faces. All of them wondering what he could possibly have to say right now. It was something you really wanted to forget about, and it didn't look like that was the case.
"How can we trust someone who let her wingman die." An audible gasp left your lips as you felt a tear run down your cheek. "And two of her fellow pilots severely injured."
"Jake that's enough." Hearing Bradley's distinct voice bellowing to Hangman as a warning watching as he struggled against arms that were gripping him.
"Lieutenant Seresin leave now." Maverick commanded him as he looked to you and then the blonde. "That's an order."
"You know he's not cut out for this mission." Turning his attention back to Bradley who finally left your trembling figure standing alone. "You and her know I'm right."
Looking at you briefly as you scrunched your face up watching as he walked away but not before getting right in Bradley's face tempting him one more time. Thankfully he resisted and you could see he was calming down.
"You're all dismissed." Maverick said and everyone scurried out of there glancing at both you and Bradley.
Once everyone was out of the room you let out a loud exhale that you didn't even know you were holding. A rack of sobs took over you as you clutched your chest in pain and Bradley wasted no time in running over to you holding you in his arms brushing your hand with his hand.
"Shh I got you Y/N." He whispered in your ear as you kissed your head while you cried into his chest. "I've got you darling it's okay."

A/n: Here is your early new years gift! I speed wrote this chapter between 12am and 4 am, and well I'm gonna sleep after posting it. This chapter is a mess. BUT we only have a few more to go!
Previous part | masterlist | Next part
Tumblr media
“Good morning, the Uranium enrichment plant that is your target will be operational earlier than expected. Raw uranium will be delivered to the plant in ten days time. As a result, your mission has been moved up, one week.”
Fucking great. One phrase that was bouncing off the walls of all the aviators gathered in the room. Sure, the mission is difficult but so far none of them have even cleared the valley simulation to move on to the next step, much less complete the training by next week.
You leaned forward in your chair as Admiral Bates continued his announcement and took his leave as Mav came on. The noise from jets landing and taking off made it harder for you to hear him. You wanted to fly this mission no matter what. Nothing was going to get in your way of it.
However, there is one person that may get in the way. Jake Seresin. You had been going above and beyond to avoid him today, after the ‘talk’ yesterday, you didn't want to face him again unless you had victory of being on the team.
“We have one week left to focus on Phase Two. It’s the most difficult stage of the mission. A pop-up strike with a steep dive, requiring nothing less than two consecutive miracles.” Maverick spoke, pacing back and forth on the little step in front of them. The screen lit up showing a U shaped valley with the uranium plant at the center of it, surrounded by two tall mountains. The Gs on the way out will be significant, you thought as you listened to Mav.
“Two pairs of F-18s will fly in a welded wing formation. Teamwork. Precise coordination of their aircraft is essential to both mission success and your survival.” He warned.
“As you know, the plant rests between two mountains. On final approach, you’ll invert directly into a steep dive. This allows you to maintain the lowest possible altitude and the only possible attack angle.” It made sense. Somehow, the first part of the approach up till now made sense in your head and hopefully was do-able. Until he explained further about the Coffin Corner…
“Egress is a steep high-G climb out to avoid hitting this mountain-
“A steep climb at that speed, you’re pulling at least eight G’s.” Jake cuts in.
“Nine, minimum.”
“The stress limit of the F-18’s airframe is 7.5.” It's Rooster who pipes up this time. Challenging Mav. While they have had a rocky relationship thus far, Rooster is managing to retort back to Mav during each exercise.
While Maverick goes further into the exercise and the rest of the mission, there isn't one moment where your foot hasn't stopped shaking. Yes, there was nervousness in the air about flying this mission, but more so about who was gonna be flying it.
“Sir, is this even achievable?” Phoenix questions, almost as if she read the minds of the pilots in the room, who were thinking the same thing.
“The answer to that will come down to the pilot in the box.”
Well shit. This is not gonna go well.
For this exercise, Mav had paired you and Phoenix, along with Coyote. While Phoenix usually has Bob as her backseater, Mav has paired you up with her.
You didn't think much of it, at least it wasn't with anyone else, it was Phoenix.
Exiting the room, to move to their assigned teams and places, you felt his stare. He had tried catching up with your fast pace when you were out on your morning run at the beach. Even when you had came to the base early to clear your head, he was there. But you didn't give him a second of your time. Managing to slip away every time he came too close.
Now, as you moves through the halls and narrow corridors of the naval base, he is hot on your heels. Calling after you as you increase your pace; taking one swift turn after another, trying to shake him off but he is relentless until you take one last turn and comes face to face with the door that leads outside to your respective planes. Before he could catch up, you had already exited, leaving the door swinging wide open and close.
Jake closes his eyes, breathing out a deep sigh and turns around to make his way to the lounge where he had to be with the rest of the pilots while you, Phoenix and Coyote were up in the air. He made his way to sit next to the radio, which was situated right next to where Rooster sat. Wanting to avoid any questioning from the man, he sat himself down at a safe distance, giving him a nod to acknowledge his presence before carefully listening through the radio for your voice.
“Talk to me, Athena!”
“We are 12 seconds late on target. We gotta move, Phoenix!” You spoke in a panicked voice, eyes blown out wide. you needed to hurry up. Testing the target lens again, making sure it was working well before they reached the target point.
As Phoenix mumbled slight curses under her breath, Coyote agreed; “Copy. Try to stay with me.”
Your eyes scanned the radar in front of you, noticing a small aircraft making its way towards them. You let out a sound of bewilderment as you heard Mav over the radio.
“Wait, who's that?”
“Blue team, you've been spotted. I’m a bandit on course to intercept. What are you gonna do?” he announced himself, as you examined his location. He may be able to catch up with them if they keep this speed. They had to make a move.
“He’s 20 miles left, ten o’clock. 700 knots closure.” You informed Phoenix and Coyote.
“Your call, what do you want to do?” Coyote proposes.
“Continue, we’re close. Stay on target.” Phoenix ordered before you could have a say. You wanted to buy in and tell them that it wouldn't be a good idea to stay on course without dealing with Mav or increasing their speed further.
“Phoenix, he’s swinging around to the North! Maybe we should-”
Before you could finish the pop up point closed in. Making Phoenix shout; “be ready on that laser, Thena.”
“Copy, I’m on it.” you sat back in your seat, focusing on the situation in front of you as your hand closed around the laser joystick. Testing the Laser focus, the plane shot straight up before rotating on its back. Blood rushed to your head as you gripped the stick tighter. Closing your eyes and trying to regain focus.
“Talk to me, Thena. Where’s Mav?” you heard Coyote through the helmet, eyes opening as you analyzed Mav’s location.
“He’s uhh five miles out. He’s coming in fast!” You shouted and immediately regretted doing so. your head throbbed by all the noise around you- regardless of the thick earmuffs headphones that were sitting snug on your head.
The planes rotated back into their normal positions, moving at the same speed that you knew was too slow but chose not to speak of just yet.
“Where’s my laser, Thia?” Coyote questioned the younger woman. Gathering any strength you had left, shaking your head. Narrowing your eyes on the target screen in front as the laser moved uncontrollably.
“Shit. Deadeye! Deadeye! It’s no good if I can't get a lock. I’m sorry.” You repeated into the mic.
“We’re out of time. I’m dropping blind.” He panted before dropping the bombs and hoping that it would hit. But it missed just by a meter as they flew by.
“Damn it. That's a miss!” He exclaimed before the planes straightened out again for Coffin Corner. You could feel your lungs compress; skin and flight suit starting to dig into your ribs.
The oxygen mask you had on felt too much to breathe into. Your breathing became ragged. Vision blurring out, regardless of the aviator glasses you had on, similar to Bob’s. Tunnel vision was not uncommon during this but your version of it was always the worst.
Many aviators experience a blurred circle and darkness around that point when under an immense high G pressure. But for you, it was a fully darkened vision with spots of lights like it was farther away than it was meant to be. You felt your hearing starting to give out just as a familiar, piercing ringing took over your ears.
“Maverick’s got a missile lock on us.” You spoke through a blind sight. You knew the tone, so it didn't take a flying genius to know that they were dead. Breathing out a sigh of relief and disappointment, she heard Phoenix over the comms.
“Shit, we’re dead.” She steered the jet around, leveling out.  Making their way back to the ship before you noticed that Coyote was still leveled up in Coffin Corner. That wasn't right.
“Coyote? Do you copy?” You heard yourself shouting into the comms before Mav repeated the words. Becoming more and more concerned about your best friend. you noticed his plane started to drop, rotating its way towards the ground at a high speed. Something clicked into your mind. He must be in G-LOC.
“Mav, I think he is in G-LOC, I repeat, Coyote is in G-LOC. He’s gonna burn in.” You swiftly informed the older man. Silently praying for his safety as you closed your eyes.
“Damnit! I’m going after him.”
You watched in shock as Mav tried to get a missile lock on him, hoping it would snap him out of it. You called after him over the comms over and over again. Trusting him not to die on you. It was getting harder for you to breathe now. You couldn't lose him. He was gonna fly this mission with you. He’d promised. Your eyes were tightly shut as Mav finally got the missile lock. You needed to hear him. To know that he was okay. But you couldn't do it with your eyes open. Otherwise you were sure you would end up throwing up in the oxygen mask.
“I'm okay. I’m good.” Javy repeated as you breathed out a sigh of relief. Not noticing the small tears that blurred your vision.
“You ever do that again, Coyote, I will personally kill you.” You threatened in fake annoyance. Happy that he was safe. Hearing him laugh but before he could retort something, you saw something smack the jet’s canopy and get caught in the back engine. Which set off a bunch of alarms and warnings at the screen in front of you. The left engine was on fire.
“Bird strike! Bird strike!” Phoenix announced, panicked.
“Phoenix, the left engine is on fire!”
“Climbing.” She shot the jet up in the air, turning away from the bird strike as she turned off the left engine. Throttling back while Y/n noticed another warning pop up.
“The right engine is out! It's still spinning.” This was not good.
“Copy, trying to restart it. Throttling up.” Phoenix spoke as she faintly heard Mav warn her about something being on fire. But before you could ask him to repeat, the plane started spinning out of control.
you were on fire. Red lights flashing wherever you looked.
“Hydraulic failure! I repeat we are on fire.” This was not the time to panic. You had to think. THINK, THINK, THINK!
“We’re going in, Phoenix! We’re going in!” Shouts, warnings and toned ringing was all you heard. you could faintly make out Mav over the comms as Phoenix repeated his words.
“EJECT, EJECT, EJECT!”
Reaching to pull the ejection tab that rested upright between your legs. Having a steady grip before you pulled, waiting for the seat to take off. Nothing..
“Mav, my ejection seat isn't working!” You called urgently, pulling harder on the duct tape wrapped rope.
“Athena, pull harder, you gotta pull harder. Come on, you're gonna crash!” He encouraged. The urgency in his voice was evident as you heard Coyote.
“Y/n focus on my voice. Come on, you gotta pull harder.” taking a quick breath, gathering any strength that you had left and pulled as if your life depended on it. Immediately, you felt yourself shoot off into the air, the bottom of the seat lit on fire. You closed your eyes, not wanting to see the plane crash as a sharp sting took over your skull, smashing with a force you had only imagined. Before all you heard was silence.
Jake heard the entire situation. He‘d already played and replayed it in his head over a million times. Pacing in the empty radio room, where only he and Rooster sat. Rooster was weirdly calm. Jake didn't know why but he didn't want to ask either. She is gonna be okay, She’s strong. she’ll pull through. He had been repeating those words in his head like a mantra. He felt helpless. all he wanted to do at this moment was be with you, apologize to you. Hell, he’d go and personally ask the Striker team and Torch to take you back in.
Mav entered the room, a solemn expression on his face which Hangman thought could bring both good or bad news. Mav looked towards the two men. As he and Jake met eyes, he didn't see a pilot, or a son or someone who was concerned for a friend. He saw a man that was on the brink of losing someone he loves dearly. Tears were gathered in his eyes that he had refused to let go. Rooster wasn't any better, yet he didn't hold the same, intense love that Mav knew Jake held for you.
“They’ll keep Phoenix in the hospital overnight for observation. But, there is something you should know. There was a problem with Athena's ejection seat which caused her to pull out much later than she had intended to. It caused some problems, she sustained a few injuries to the back of her head.”
No, no this could not be happening right now. Jake felt like all the air in his lungs was suddenly being pushed out. His head was dizzy as he managed to grab onto the nearest table to steady himself.
“Wha-? What did the doctors say? Is she gonna be okay, Maverick?” The words spewed out of his mouth like a waterfall. One after the other, it didn't make sense.
“She is in surgery right now.” That was all it took for him to storm out the room in a hurry. Exiting the base as he grabbed a few of his things from his locker before sprinting to his car. He managed to break every single traffic light and speed limit just to get to the hospital.

Perfect rings
Based on this idea with the ring from Purple Hearts.
The one where Hangman makes sure everyone knows you’re his with the perfect rings.
Roosters version Young Maverick versio
Tumblr media
There were three things Jake Seresin was sure of
1. He was the best damn aviator in the navy
2. He was hot shit
3. You were his
No ifs and or buts about it, if you were at home he’d leave out one of his shirts from his top gun graduation for you to wear. He’d moan and dramatically fall back on the couch pulling you with him everytime he saw his last name sitting proudly against your chest.
It was a busy Saturday night at the hard deck Jake kept you tucked closely to his side rubbing his thumb against your hip. everyone knew not to approach Hangman’s girl at last they face his wrath. Nothing set him off like a man touching what was his.
“I’m going to go get another drink.” You spoke leaning up pressing a quick kiss to his jaw. Immediately taking his attention away from the game off pool. “I’ll get it darlin, stay here.” Phoenix rolled her eyes at his antics, with a fond smile loving seeing the cocky pilot turn into a softy for you. Pushing yourself out of his grip before he could leave. “I think I’ll survive for a few minutes.” Laughing at his pout you made your way to the bar, Jake watching from the corner of his eye, flipping off the laughing pilots behind him.
You hadn’t been at the bar waiting for more than two minutes before someone took the barstool next to you, shooting you a what was probably an attempt at a charming smile. “Hello beautiful, the names Rick.” You politely smiled shaping his outstretched hand mentally hurrying Penny. You know the saying ‘going from zero to a hundred’ well Your pilot counterpart idles at 70, and you knew if he saw the young sailor he’d flip.
Hangman who was indeed watching the overly confident sailor put a hand on your back moved to take a step in your direction. Getting pulled back by Rooster.
“She’s got it man look.” Nodding his head back In your direction, hangman’s eyes followed. He saw you shake your head and point over your shoulder to where you left Jake, who was glaring daggers at the man. You couldnt help but shake your head fondly as you made your way back over to your bristled boyfriend.
“Easy soldier, at ease.” You laughed wrapping your arms around his neck directing his attention back to you. His green eyes lit up at your laugh. “You make a friend?” The caveman in him spoke before he could stop it. You ran your fringes through the short hair ay the nape of his neck. “No, I told him i had a very scary boyfriend that could drop a missel on his house from his fighter jet.”
“Good girl” Jake calmed, chuckling as he took one hand from your hip and pulled off his dogtags and draped them around your neck, something he did everytime he felt someone got to close. “Rooster watch my girl, I’ll be back.” Whispering that last part against the your forehead giving it a peck before he walked off. Rooster swooped in before you could see where he was heading.
“Come on, its your turn.” You took the outstretched pool cue and quickly got distracted with Bob and Phoenix, while Rooster shook his head watching Hangman and a few other pilots throwing out the sailor. “Softy.”
Not to long after you felt arms wrap around your waist pulling you back into a warm chest. “Ready to get out of here?”
“Honey I’m home!” Jakes southern accent echoed throughout the house his smile widening finding you in the kitchen. “Hey, honey.” You mocked his earlier words. Pulling him down to meet your lips by the chain around his neck. He hummed against your lips pulling you closer into him.
“Just put dinner in the oven go take a shower and we can watch a movie while we wait.” You breathed noses rubbing against each others. As he nodded, pulling your left hand to his mouth pressing one last kiss your ring, “Yes ma’am, love ya.” He winked before following orders.
And that’s why when he knew he wanted to marry you he went and got the biggest diamond they had in the store, makes a statement on your pretty little hand that your taken care of, but even then he felt it wasn’t enough didn’t scream His like he wanted. Then it hit him, stumbling out of the shower, barley having time to pull on grey sweats in his haste to the garage, rushing right past you.
Taking the necessary tools from his took set he stripped the still dripping chain off his neck. If anything would scream you belonged to him it was this. Quickly connecting the chain back together making a small loop he wondered back into the living room head held high.
“Uh hi?” You laughed despite your confusion seeing a damp shirtless Jake standing over you, a cocky smile on his face as he dropped down on one knee, grabbing your hand. “Still wanna be my forever girl?” He asked.
You wordlessly nodded not knowing where he was going with this until he pushed the chain ring on you finger settling it righ next to the diamond. Jumping up to join you on the couch, man handling you to lay in front of him as he pulled you close mindlessly playing with your ring finger loving his new addition.
“You are the most possessive man I’ve ever met.” You laughed feeling his chest rumble behind you, “And you’re stuck with me forever sweetness.”

THIS FIC MENTIONS SEX ALOT, I PUT DUBIOUS CONSENT BCUS READER & JAKE ARE NOT IN RIGHT STAND OF MIND, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!
1. his bedroom
You’ve been thinking to yourself lately, everynight you lie in bed in wondering if you should be tired of doing this?, giving a piece of yourself to Jake Seresin three times a week.
You wondered if the man even cared enough to get to know you, after all you’ve been acting as his bed warmer for the past three months.
But that just it, you were warned of how this would work, you both agreed to emotionless sex— being each other’s fuckbuddies when work got to much to emotionally handle.
As it seemed neither of you had the mental capacity to have a healthy coping mechanism. You sat on your floor infront of a mirror trying to cover up a neck bruise, Jake had a nightmare again—the same one as usual, Instead Jacob Sr was the one doing the choking.
“Jake, Jake!” your throat was closing, Jake hand around throat was tightening—his fingers digging deep into your skin Again. You were begging for him to release you. You stared into his green forest like eyes—their so fucking beautiful.
At first he doesn’t acknowledge your pleading tone, Jakes most likely still stuck in nightmare from hell “Jake please let go”. Your voice was dry now, tears sprung from your eyes as it did his.
A loud thump happened as your body rolled of the bed to the floor. You heard heavy breathing which normally signaled Jake had finally woken up . He banged his head against the headboard loudly. Jake utters a small—“I’m sorry”before leaving you alone in the room to gather himself.
You sat on the floor like fucking obedient dog waiting for Jake to come back and tell you what do next. While you sit there in silence apart of you wonders were the strong Y/n“Killerfrost” Kazansky went, the woman who didnt break a sweat while looking death in the face. The woman who flew more colder than Iceman more crazier than Maverick. What happened?
Death happened, cancer stripped your dad of his life. Sitting at his beside watching him struggle take his last breath, shushing him he because he was pushing himself to use his voice.
Going on base and listening to the Admiral Simpson go over on the speaker and tell the base that Admiral Kazansky—your dad drew his last breathe. Which led you to Jake Seresin bed.
Younger you would be so disappointed in you right now. Younger Y/n Kazansky would rather die before laying down with man who’s ruining their mental health. If someone told you ten years down line you would be fucking one of the worst men as an emotional outlet. You would’ve laughed in their face repeatedly till you passed out from lack of oxygen.
“Tom Kazansky would be so disgusted with his daughter”, a thought lingered around your mind, “Dad wouldnt even want to be in the same room as you”.
You picked yourself off the floor as you heard Jake’s footsteps getting closer. Your legs were bouncy as anxiety was coursing through your veins—flying never did make you feel this, but leave it to Jake‘Hangman’Seresin to.
Jake voice was low and rough,“See you next week”. Before you could say something to the man, he already had his back turned walking away from you.
Your cheeks flush with embarrassment,“How am I falling for a man who doesn’t love me and never will?”. You continue to slip your clothes back on as you toss the thought around in your head, careful of your sore neck skin. “You should be ashamed of yourself Y/n Kazansky, you were not raised be a whore who re adjust their clothes as a John throws a fucking dollar at them., You were raised with dignity”.
Whore. Y/n Kazansky callsign should be Jake Seresin whore.
Your pressed your head into the shower wall, allowing the hot pressed water to soothe your aching muscles.“I’m so sorry daddy”.
2. Family Dinner
You kept tugging at the hem of your turtle neck, it was to hot to be wearing this damn thing in the first place. But last thing you wanted to was to worry your siblings as they had just lost their father. That last thing they needed was their weak sister falling apart at the seams, as if they weren’t either.
Two times a month your siblings held saturday dinner. The idea was to keep up with eachother.
Guess who’s been missing family dinner to fuck Jake Seresin?, the answer is Y/n Kazansky.
You stood on Ana porch quietly, wondering if you should even go in, not wanting the catch the end of your short-tempered sister.
“You plan on standing there till hell freeezes over?”, a voice pulls your from your thoughts, Xander Kazansky was standing behind you with pie in his hands. “Come on sis, Ana been waiting to see you”. He smiled, softly pulling on your wrist to get you into the door. You mirror his smile, forgetting all about last night. You closed the door behind you.
“Hey kid”, you stand there waiting for him to put the pie down before you pull him into a tight hug. Your ruffling his hair, with one hand.
“I have you know Y/n I can legally drink alcohol”. Xander pouts like little kid.
“Y/n didn’t wait until she was twenty one drink”. Ana tone of voice was sour as she gestured the both of you to sit down.
“Ana I—“ Your cut off by her harsh words.
“Y/n the longer you spew bullshit at me the longer its takes to bless the food”. Ana states before bowing her head and closing her eyes.
You and Xander make eye contact before joining her.
“So us non-aviators aren’t good enough for you anymore?” Ana asked you in calm tone, yet you could hear how angry she truly was.
Xander was to busy scraping at his dinner plate, shoving food in his mouth—not wanting to be caught in the middle of his sister’s argument.
You bite at the inside of your cheek unsure of what to say back. Can’t say the truth because then Ana will really flip out if she finds what her little sister been doing lately.
You glanced at your plate again thinking up lie to tell her. “I’ve been busy Ana, since the mission the dagger squad have become a permanent squadron”. Your telling the truth but the full truth.
You pray Ana takes the bone you threw at her and leaves it alone. Ana gave you a dirty look before picking at her broccoli and shoving it in her mouth. Thank god neither of your parents were here as they would’ve picked up on ticks, the picking at your nails, nibbling at your bottom lip.
“Sweetheart you can tell us whats going on you know that right”, your dad would say while nudging your shoulder, “Your off the clock, you can retire Killerfrost till your up in the air”.
You thought Ana had let it go as she stopped acknowledging you, and was only talking to Xander. "I hope that whatever you been doing was worth it Y/n, you haven’t even seen mom in goddamn month”.
“Ana” Xander sighed, he was getting tired of his sister remarks, you didn’t wanna defend yourself anymore, not that you even tried to.
You bowed your head in shame, no longer wanting to make eye contact with either sibling.
“What Xander?”, Ana raised her voice,”It’s the same fucking thing dad would’ve say to her too,I’m getting tired of her acting as if she’s the only one who lost a dad, like mom didn’t lose apart of her”.
You could feel the tears attempting to escape from your eyes. You placed the silverware back in its place, you stood from the dinner table. Casting a look between the both of them—“I’m sorry Ana, Xander” before you walked out of her house with tears rushing down your face.
Your sitting at a gas station thinking about everything, you really were acting selfish.
Maybe fucking Jake Seresin was a bad idea?
You picked up your phone, eyeing the text message. “I can’t sleep Y/n, come over if your aren’t busy”.
And just like that, Jake was telling you to come over it’s like he knew when it was a bad time for you. How dare you say no to him?
You put the key back in the ignition and start to slowly pull out of the parking lot.
Your on the back road, the shortest way to get to his house.
3. All I Could Was Cry
She was standing there with my man.
I heard them promise death do us apart.
A woman who looked like Marilyn Monroe was her descendant hung off of Jakes arm, she wrapped her hand around his bicep. They both shared a smile with one another, “I’m busy tonight Y/n“, he texted you this morning.
They were pushing eachother into the water- her screams of joy as Jake playfully her slammed into the water. She leaned into to him pushing her tongue down his throat.
I was losing the man I loved.
“Falling in love with a man like that is dangerous game Y/n” A familiar voice interrupts your self pity. Uncle Maverick is standing behind you with two beers in his hands and small smile. “Scoot over kiddo” Your sitting on cold sand, pretending to be okay with the scene infront of you.
“Uncle Mav if your here to give me I’m so disappointed in you speech, I’ve already gave myself one more than once I-“. He gently cuts you off when he pulls you into a tight, rubbing his hand up and down your back.
“Your mom been worried about you, so has your siblings , me and the daggers”. His voice is laced with worry, you hated making people worry about you. “Your flying been…crazy these past couple of months”. Maverick struggles to find more words to say, unsure if he does it might push into Jakes arms.
He was right you been flying like your ass was on fire, and if you’ve been pulling maneuvers even he wouldn’t dare to.
“Ana Kazansky is worried about me?”, Your eyes widen at that,“It didn’t seem like that a couple nights ago when she was going for my head”.
“Ana is like your father, arguing with them is like sitting on the stand defending yourself against a criminal charge”. Uncle Maverick explains with a soft tone, “I would know after pissing your dad off for over thirty years”. You swear he blinks away a few tears before continuing.
“I have everything under control, yes I like Seresin and I understand he doesn’t want me”. You feel indifferent as the lie rolls off your tongue through your mouth. “I’m Killerfrost Kazansky who doesn’t allow her emotions to get the best of her”. Your eyes shift away as you attempt to not hold eye contact with him.
“The same bullshit your father tried to pull with me years ago, your Y/n Kazansky the woman who just her father, the woman who misses her father dearly the man who showed you how to spell your name, the man who managed to get out of deployment early to drop you off for the first day kindergarten”.
Tears pricked at your eyes,“I didn’t think about it that way, maybe i’ve been to hard on myself?”. Your voice cracks with emotion. “As much I hate to say it— It feels nice to be ‘wanted’ by someone, Mav”.
“Kid, I was that man thirty some odds years ago when Goose died, I had sex with any woman who looked my way and said yes”. Maverick pulled away from you, gently wiping away your tears. “It’s going to hurt kiddo for awhile, but I promise you its gets better, the last thing Ice would want is for his daughter to lose herself, to allow a man to tell her how worthy she is”. He presses a kiss into the side of your head“It’s okay to feel emotions Y/n Kazansky”, he said low enough for only your ears.
After leaving you alone with your thoughts, your phone blinks as a notification pops up.
“Y/n I need you over tonight”. Your walking back to the car, hand on the car handle. “10 is good”. Your driving past his house, your driving to your apartment.
4. Happier Again (3months later)
He’s in standing your doorway with roses in his hand, and red wine in the other. When you heard knocking on the door you expected Ana because it almost time for movie night or Harvard because he’s sucks at cooking and needs help. But not him—Jake Seresin was standing in your doorway looking apologetic.
The new you wants to slam the door in his face, forcing him to catch a hint that the nights you spent in his bed were over. Deciding against your gut you decide to allow him in, for what you’ll never know—maybe he’s here to offer a peace offering.
You still had to work with him still— the dagger squadron is permanent till Cyclone and Cain think otherwise.
Jake goes to open his mouth but nothing leaves it, which is a first. The great Hangman is left clueless not a insult dripping with anger and sarcastic comment in sight.
“Come in Jake” He cocks his head to the side unsure if he really should.“If you want stand outside and look stupid thats fine by me”. You turn on your heel, but before you get far he grabs you by wrist, pulling you into a kiss.
The roses, the wine—he loves me, Jake“Hangman” Seresin finally loves me. You feel the old you try to blossom like a dead flower, attempting to sprout back to life.
“Stop!”You shoved at his chest he falls back alittle. “No, I’m not doing this again with you Jake”. Your cheeks are starting to get red,“What about that woman from the hard deck?”.
His lips slip into a tight smile“She and I are going through a rough patch right now”. Jake steps into your apartment, “Y/n its nothing to worry about she wouldn’t know”.
You shake your head at him,“You haven’t changed?”.
“Oh come on darlin it’ll be like old times”, He stands tall, his hangman smile is fully on display.
You scoff, doesn’t he understand what I just said?
“Jake you have a girlfriend, its make you a cheater!” You jabbed a finger into his chest. “Your cheating on your girlfriend”. He doesn’t give a shit.
“And your such a fucking angel darlin, we fucked for how long Y/n?”. His voice is harsh, anger bubbling—getting ready to explode like a volcano. “Were’s ya fucking halo at?”.
“I didn’t know” you yell back at him—standing your ground. The one bad thing you inherited from your dad was his temper, when your button been pushed for too long.“You must fell from heaven when your father casted you out, huh?”. A low blow that was uncalled for, but he’s taking it there.
“I need you darlin, I need to fuck you!”. he screams, your pretty sure you and Jake are one second close to having the cops called for a domestic disturbance.
“You and I need therapy Jake”, your voice returning to a calm tone.“Fucking you was worst shit i’ve ever done, I’ve been using you as a tool”. You step back from him.“Jake you can’t honestly tell me we aren’t ‘broken’ a little bit, sane humans don’t do this shit”.
Jakes eyes were squeezed closed, your cupped his jaw with your hands.“It’s okay not be okay, but its not okay to be doing this”. You sighed,“As much as I want to, its not healthy Jake”.
Jake opened his eyes, tears were rolling down his face. “I’m so sorry Y/n I just needed a break, I needed a break from being Hangman”.
“A smart guy told me once your no longer in the air, there’s no need to fake who you are”. Your eyes are beginning to become teary, “We need help Jake”.
“Your right Y/n” His eyes were still wet.
“Go back your place and try to figure out what went wrong with you and her”. You gently told him. “Work buddies?”. You had hope in your voice, you put your hand out.
A wet laugh fell from his mouth,“Work buddies”. He shakes it.
