capricorn sun 11th house/scorpio mars 9th house
hi! sun (ego, individuality, overall identity) in capricorn would manifest as a career/goal focused individual who is disciplined, self-motivated, and firm in their beliefs. the 11th house represents our friendships, involvement with organizations, and  long time pleasures. i would say that with this placement in the 11th house, not only are you able to make and keep friends easily, but your friendships (and other organizations, like clubs, teams, etc.) have a significant influence on your identity. since capricorn also rules over social status (think 10th house), friends that have good reputations or can potentially help your own social status are important for you to have. since this house is ruled by saturn, you might experience karmic friendships, meaning if you do someone dirty, you’ll eventually meet a friend who does similar to you (this works vice versa! treating your friends well will bring you friends who treat you the same). a good social status, money, and an enjoyable job can bring you life long pleasure and satisfaction. capricorn is also the disciplinary, so your friends might see you as bossy.
mars (sex, aggression, how you take action) in scorpio would manifest as someone who is very imaginative and has a strong creative drive. extremely private because they hate when other people project negative energy or doubts onto their actions or plans. the 9th house represents education, foreign travel, and mental exploration. imagine an expanded version of the 3rd house! with mars in 9th, you are drawn to travel and adventures in addition to finding new experiences to expand your knowledge on the world and different perspectives. can be very intense over philosophy, but prefer to keep their beliefs to themselves, and passionate about higher wisdom (learning more about the subconscious perhaps) and pursing a higher education. very curious about the world too. i feel like with this placement, you also might be able to prosper financially through higher education? whether that be you becoming a teacher or earning a degree that influentially assists your job performance (but this really depends on how mars aspects any planets in your 10th house and your north node, maybe even planets in the 6th). i’ve also noticed that this placement is successful in manifesting, mainly because they can become really obsessive over something. they think of it constantly, so it eventually comes true.
thank u for asking! i hope this helped :3

💓 Astro Notes PT 3 ! 💓
+I’m definitelyy gonna do sign posts soon, like houses, planets, asteroids, and all, it’s all gonna have a theme to each topic yada yada yadaa, so look outtt+
>A bit of a long post here so have fun scrolling through it hehe :))
*All aries risings have sign/house synchronization because the house order doesn’t move or if it does move at all it hardly does, only shifting by a sign or two depending on how late the ascendant degree is, this is notorious of aries’ independence streak by wanting each sign to be in their native houses, to feel its house’s full power, aries rules 1st the house of identity so there’s the more symbolic way for this occurring. It’s pure energy here.
*Venus-saturn, especially conjunction, definitely carry a big daddy vibe. It’s more prominent if the two are placed in the angular houses.
*Taurus and libra are both rules by venus, but these energies are distributed between the two signs in different ways. A basic way to differ the two energy wise is taurus is the “masculine” side of venus, libra is far more “feminine”. Both are delicate but in different ways taurus is “heavier”, for it being an earth sign, contrasted with the airy and flighty libra.
*Libra sun is in fall in astrology, the fall meaning the behavior of the sign contradicts the traditional role of the planet, the role of the sun is to stand out from everyone else, its your radiance, what makes you special, it’s your ego and what you take pride in. But libra wants to be relatable to everyone, to NOT stand out, merge and meet and balance !! This is the opposite of aries, aries is independent, “what makes ME independent, me me me !!”, explaining its exaltation when the sun enters this sign, it’s not absolutely the same as leo sun or the suns energy overall but it’s a close fit, almost... perfect, that’s what the exaltation means represents here. Libra is focused on everyone else around them, everyone other than themselves, the people around them and how they can compromise to fit everyone’s needs. I mentioned before they don’t like to stand out, this is excluding fire placements in a libras chart which will create a person who relates well to others but still demands to stand out in whatever planet is in a fire sign.
*Whatever house leo is ruling is wherever your rising sign’s ego is being expressed in, ex: leo in 11th expresses their ego, creativity with friends, causes. This area of life is where you’ll likely take most pride in, excluding the suns placement in the chart.
*Neptune in 7th can attract a lot of partners in need of healing or help. This person is very healing and guiding in relationships, maybe they could even make a good guidance counselor, but I’m not so sure astrologically because I haven’t looked into it entirely, let me know if this is true.
*Neptune in 2nd is the type of person to browse a shop, find whatever they like but never end up buying it, they change their minds about it by putting it back right before they leave. They could’ve been talking about hooow much they want to get whatever they’re holding onto over and over again but never buy the thinggg.
*Aries mercury were always told to lower their voice or be quiet as kids I swear.
*Uranus in 12th feels they should hide their brilliance, these are veryy creative people they just keep it a secret.
*12th house feels like a never ending game of hide and seek, you find the planet sometimes but you’re always in a never ending loop, always searching for it.
*The moon in astrology, when looking into the mother, who’s ruled by the moon in astrology, describes your relationship with her, what she’s like, how she raised you etc...
*Ex: taurus moons, your mother gave you many gifts, she adored youu as taurus is ruled venus which rules gifts and appreciation, she was also very relaxed in your childhood, she still is now. This relationship is a very calm, steady one, moon is exalted in taurus meaning the role of the moon is comfortable in relaxed and comfy taurus.
*Ex: a moon in 8th, the house of intense and psychic scorpio, could have a psychic or even telepathic bond to the mother, this is a very strong connection overall and depending on its sign and aspects is where you’ll find the specifics of the relationship from, the details, how the relationship is flavored.
*Sun in 12th indicates an absent father figure. This placement is difficult, i’m so sorry if you have it because you can never feel like you can be yourself, it’s hidden from you. With any other placement in astrology, there’s a gorgeous, forgiving upside to it, you’re very healing and understanding of others, an empath or at least someone who sucks in the negative vibes out the environment, it can get quite exhausting !! so always need to seclude yourself now and then, you’re very loyal and caring of your loved ones, people love you for your sensitivity and empathy as this placement also makes you an old soul, someone overflowing with wisdom others rely on.
*5th house shows you what your child will be like, what traits they embody, what they will do and even how they act.
*Capricorn risings look elvish, they have high cheekbones a lot like a LOTR character and elvish, chiseled ears. It’s not OUT there but it’s subtle.
*Chiron in 9th has experienced religious trauma.
*A lot of 12th or 8th house placements carry a lot of karma.
*Mercury-pluto (especially negative) can become inconsiderate in arguments, they bring up a ton of shit to use against you, only as long as they can win.
*Scorpio suns are far more optimistic and light hearted than the moon sign.
*Mercury-ascendant aspects can make even an introverted rising sign more out-going, open, talkative (not that introverted risings can’t be talkative this is just what comes with this placement).
*You may be good at something without realizing it, take a peak at your 12th house or quintiles !! For quintiles, look up the trine form of whatever two planets are aspected for the general description since there’s not too much to find online sadly. 12th house is something you don’t really know or realize you’re good at, especially early in life, the secret talent pertaining to whichever sign or planet are ruling/in this house.
*Leo venus take pride in their loverss like damnnnn they literally treat their partners as royalty, king and queen, kissing the ground they walk on and everything, they’re so devoted in love, it’s adorable !! <33
*Pisces and leo moons, THE dreamiest, most romantic moon sign pairr, it’s well known pisces is the hopeless romantic of the zodiac, however to bring up the flamboyant, dramatic leo moon when describing a dreamy romantic you wonder, really ?? Yes this is extremely true ! Both signs, pisces and leo, are fairly alike, almost alike in fact, considering they both create a inconjunction in the natal chart, two signs who share some similarities while still contradicting one another in ways they express these similarities, both pisces and leo are creative, talented, have a love for the arts, film, music, loyal as friends and love to care for others, both are insanely idealistic. Leo rules the child remember !! so they’re a childlike sign with young idealism, an idealistic moon sign here. Both leo and pisces moons are children at heart, they’re so gooey and sweet.
*Sun in 10th can get any job they apply for, they could even be terrible at that job they want, the one they want to try out for, they would even have a breakdown over how terrible they were in an interview but still get the job like HOWW- WITCHCRAFTT.
*Aquarius mercuries were known as the smartest kid in class, the einstein’s of the class, everyone asked for their answers for the homework, they just carry this flair of intellectual superiority just like the sun sign haha.
*Your 12th house is what you unconsciously give off the vibe of, your ascendant and midheaven are noticeable layers, different types of layers of you !!but the subtle layers of the 12th house, sign or planet, can always be sensed unconsciously, 12th house energies are at a higher octave, a higher vibration than the other houses, even 11th, you can notice a person’s subtle 12th house energy but they’re still completely unaware of it as it’s ! hidden ! from them.
*Aquarius venus, and really all air venuses in general, are soo stereotyped UGHH, what I mean by stereotyped is the descriptions of each of these venus signs is literally like the same shit over and overrr again, they all get terrible reps in the astro community it seems almost close minded because it’s also such a hugee generalization. It’s only about how the air venus energy is used, manifested in the person, if its underdeveloped or not. If it’s underdeveloped it’s going to be chaotically afloat from material love affairs, which earth venuses don’ttt like, water too, fire can handle the floaty-ness but if the passion’s not there- BYE !! If you develop an air venus well enough, you can balance the material and intellectual realms in your relationships, this is kinda natural for earth heavy charts with one the air signs here, however fire or even more air could become a little tricky to ground yourself in relationships. Just let your partners know you deserve your space because you guys can really run out of mental power after a while, so it’s necessary for you to recharge !! just don’t ghost people completely when you do, it’s where this immortal stereotype comes from.
*Saturn dominant people are flawless beings.
*Saturn in 3rd, YOU GUYS ARE SOOOSOO SOOO SMART AHH. Their minds are always running at a fast pace like literal lightning, or they become too overwhelming (not in a bad sense ofcc, it’s just how it is) that the person’s speech rhythm is kinda forgotten about in a way, it feels like that their mouths aren’t always running in sync. The thought they’re going to express into words should come out but it’s so quick or even “heavy” it jumbles up a sentence or it causes the person to mix up a word or two. Their minds are fast fast fastt but they feel like their mouths are running in literal slow motion. There’s nothing wrong with this, this placement makes amazingly smart peoplee. Just relax, try letting yourself go in conversation, let all that big, brain energy freee !!
*Alsoo, as singers they would and definitely ALWAYSS get their notes right, they have actual PERFECT voices, they really should become writers or, like I said, singing would be perfect for them because they would never mess up lmaoo.
*Libra, computerized concern and sympathy...
*Pluto in 8th feel unbeatable, indestructible almost, they have above average regenerative abilities, they have the best survival tactics but they keep it a secret, it’s 8th house we’re talking about.
*Whatever saturn is in is the area where you’ll become flawless in, you’ll master that area throughout your life with time.
*There is a guiding planet in astrology, the planet that is closest behind the sun, it’s considered your “second” chart ruler, or basically has the energy of it because you can probably relate to it being one of the most prominent energies in your chart.
*Sagittarius//9th house mercury is soooo blunt, so blunt. Wait did I mention they’re SOOO SO BLUNT.
*Moon in 5th need to perform, they love to get out on stage and perform with their entire hearts, they’ll do amazing in the performing arts, theatre, and honestly they probably already aree. These people are so playful and generally so fun to be around, they’re natural hypemen as well !!
*Taurus venus love to be appreciated by their partners, the gifts, the kisses, the food and allll.
*Neptune in 3rd feel everything in their environment, they can sift through the energies and vibes, it’s second nature, no not second nature, FIRST nature, they’re one with everything around them. Their minds are like a hazy, cloudy ocean containing every drop, every thought of a place, a person.
*Moon in 11th, and 10th too, have a special ability to understand and sympathize with the public, they always know what the public wants and even how to give it to them. This can easily get them famous since they’re extremely understanding people, especially if moon is healthy in the chart.
*Someone with a lot of capricorn/10th house or aquarius/11th house energy is very extroverted, they enjoy socializing with others but suffer from social burn outs often, they often need to recharge.
*Scorpio risings have intense voices, like their tone radiates throughout your head and it can feel intense overall, even when they’re speaking casually. The specific flavor or tone doesn’t matter but how it sounds overall is piercing.
*In astrology, libra rising starts the house cusps with each houses sister signs ruling each cusps ex: pisces rules 6th house, the house of virgo in astrology. Symbolically, libra wants to balance out the houses by blending the energies with the sister signs together, by with what is (house number) and how it’s done (sign on each house cusp), for balanceee !!
*Moon conjunction uranus TRANSITSS can cause literal earthquakes on earth, shocking news or something shocking or groundbreaking will happen that day either around the world and in personal, daily life. Ex: this transit happened on halloween during the blue moon, so basically no one ever trick or treats in my neighborhood, like barely anyone comes out i mean, it’s always 5 houses apart where people typically hand out candy, some people are just hanging out, we always run out of houses to go to since it’s not very active, but this year EVERYONE was out trick or treating it was so crazy to see so many people out, it was quite literally shocking because that actually never happens also there’s a whole pandemic going on too lmaooo.

⤷ the courts offer bread and salt to SIDDHARTH MARTELL of HOUSE MARTELL. many say that the THIRTY SIX year old ruling PRINCE of SUNSPEAR is known to be CLEVER and INDEPENDENT, though ill tongues whisper that he is SECRETIVE and SELFISH. when his name is uttered, one is reminded of a leatherbound book, a game of chess, an hourglass, and scented herbs. may he be blessed and protected in this war of crowns.
basics.
full name: siddharth nymeros martell
titles: prince of sunspear
nicknames: the sun snake, the spear of the viper
age: thirty six
birthplace: the water gardens, dorne
house: martell
languages: common tongue, high valyrian, trade talk
orientation: bisexual
personality type: intj-a
vices: wrath (vengeful), pride (mostly towards his intellect), gambling (minor issue in chess; also a sore loser) virtues: temperance (for the most part), honor, friendship
faceclaim: mahesh jadu
height: 6'0" (1.83 m) recognisable features: smooth olive skin and long black hair
reputation outside of dorne: good. most view him as a capable diplomat, if not a charming and eloquent representative of dorne. his amicable friendships with traders from essos is certainly viewed as an asset by both his allies and his would-be rivals. others may want to build a friendship with him for access to his and dorne’s invaluable diplomatic and commercial ties.
reputation within dorne: also good. because of his invaluable diplomatic and commercial ties to traders from essos and beyond, siddharth is considered a vital piece of dorne’s puzzle. of course, there are those who view him as a threat, considering his status as a martell and his currently neutral approach with the rest of westeros, though most believe that could be easily handled. they might find that harder in truth.
family:
parents:
nymor nymeros martell, ruling prince of sunspear (father, deceased) mina martell née blackmont, ruling princess of sunspear (mother, deceased)
spouse: none…yet. ( utp martell née utp, ruling princess of sunspear)
issue: none…yet.
siblings:
utp martell, prince of sunspear (half-sibling) utp martell, prince of sunspear (half-sibling) utp martell, princess of sunspear (half-sibling)
wanted connections:
“what is a prince without his princess?”: siddharth is currently unmarried, but he is looking to establish a strong alliance through marriage, even if the relationship with his wife may end up somewhat…ordinary. he prefers they at least like, if not love, each other and their company, hoping that they can be passionate about one another. if not, at the very least, he will respect her as she must respect him, hoping that they both care enough to see to each other’s survival. (open to ruling princess of sunspear or anybody: 0/1)
“if i were a woman, i would be you.”: siddharth’s half-sister is very friendly towards him, owing to years of closeness between them. they respect each other, though she’s probably more of an active personality than he is, more physical and athletic than him, than he’ll ever be. (open to princess of sunspear or anybody: 0/1)
“brothers of the brave.”: siddharth’s half-brothers are, well, as brotherly as half-brothers can get. they’re adventurers by heart, warriors, and think little of siddharth’s role as prince, believing it’s too boring to be left behind books and a desk. (open to prince of sunspears or anybody: 0/1)
“allies or rivals, how mercurial these players can be.”: siddharth’s politicking, his plots and plans, would be an interesting avenue to explore, especially with so many lords and ladies ripe for interactions. (open to everybody: 0/x)
“the dornishmen love to share.”: it’s dorne. a paramour or two would be pretty interesting. (open to everybody: 0/x)
“have you met my sworn spear?”: SIDDHARTH NYMEROS MARTELL ( fc: mahesh jadu ) is looking for their SWORN SPEAR AND PARAMOUR. this connection should be between the ages of 30+ years old, with the face claim of UTP. role description: she is basically going to be the areo hotah to his doran martell and the ellaria sand to his oberyn martell…if the last two roles were reversed. since she is from dorne, alternatively from essos or even yi-ti, she must be a poc muse. she has no political ambition, viewing the lords of ladies of westeros with relative disdain if not annoyance, but is extremely loyal to siddhart and his future wife with whom she may also share some affection and…curiosities. siddharth’s sworn spear fights like oberyn but is not too chatty, as quick on her feet, and well-versed with spears and swords. if she is “asked” to do something by her prince and future princess, she will do it, no questions asked, and as quickly and efficiently as possible. if caught between her prince and future princess, she may usually choose siddharth, as do they share a secret between them that no one else knows. she is not fond of almond milk. you DO / DO NOT need to contact the player before applying ( @siddharthmartell ) (open to everybody: 0/x)
personality:
siddharth loves intrigue, though he loves to plot and plan more than he actually get to execute his many plots and plans. for now, he’s contented in his state, watching others. soon, this viper will strike.
siddharth loves to read and play games of strategy such as chess. he never fails to celebrate whenever he wins, though he is a sore loser who always find something else to blame for his losses and missteps.
siddharth often believes that his people already know what he knows and if they do not, or cannot keep up with his wit, then they do not deserve what he knows.
siddharth appreciates the arts, especially literature. he likes music and dancing as well but rarely indulges in them, believing he’s too intelligent to do so. he is also what modern folks would call a foodie.
history:
growing up, siddharth was close to his half-siblings, more so with his half-sister. both his half-siblings he viewed better than him physically, so he would always be insecure around them. these days, however, that insecurity is kept in check if not fully already gone.
when he was a teen, siddharth befriended the daughter of a visiting volantene noble. they secretly fell in love but she passed away of natural causes, though most rumor that she died of heartache. siddharth wanted to marry her, even though it would never come to be even if she had lived.
his marriage was forced but he can’t really complain. his wife is a beauty and she is at most loyal to him as he is to her. theirs is a friendly union equivalent to an open marriage. (opening this part for consideration with whomever becomes his wife)
goals:
siddharth has only one goal as of this time, and that is to maintain dorne’s growth outside of the rest of westeros’ interference. whatever problems the wolves and the dragons have with each other, siddharth does not care, unless it would be for the benefit of his realm.

TV in HP (this got long)
There has been talk which often leads to arguments because people seem incapable of being respectful and actually discussing things of what house in the Harry Potter universe Tessa would belong to. For me though I know in the universe she would only be sorted into one and one alone I however prefer sorting people in the hybrid houses. Especially since I find people/characters far too complex to really be pigeonholed in just one house. The descriptions come from THIS buzzfeed quiz. Though if being honest I think the quiz itself is a bit weak but I have gotten all results and meanings from the comment section. Which I did provide in this post so I got you all covered. Alright now for the moment everyone has been waiting for!
There were a few in which I felt Tessa could work well within. Some where I instantly was like that is certainly not her! Of course I am aware I am not her and don’t have access to her mind/emotions/motives/etc. Still from the bits we see and others have said about her you can immediately remove some of the hybrids off the list.  I wiggled it down to these options ...
Gryffindor/Hufflepuffs: This is a particularly rare house to end up in, but Gryffinpuffs always recognize one another because they have a tendency both to wear their hearts on their sleeve and to charge into action. You’re honest to a fault, but you’d be willing to lie if it meant helping a friend in need. You’re humble and prefer a quiet life if it’s at all possible, but your keen sense of justice means that you’re always ready to jump to someone’s defense if you think they’re being wronged.
Gryffindor/Slytherin: It’s safe to say that not many people who know you truly know you, because you are a wealth of contradictions. You are individualistic and self-motivated, but you’re also dedicated to a small group of tight-knit friends, to the extent that some people think of you as cliquish. You have a strong moral compass, but your ambition and desire for excellence sometimes cause internal conflicts that you need to use all your considerable wits to resolve.
Hufflepuff/Slytherin: You love animals, your family, and being a part of a team. But while you’re known for being loyal and easy to get along with, that doesn’t mean you’re not ambitious or willing to take risks when the situation calls for it. People might mistake you for a pushover because of your easy demeanor, but they’d be dead wrong.
I find it interesting that I ended up with 2 Slytherin options which is where I have seen most people place her into. Also Gryffindor has been represented 2 times as well. So let’s focus on Gryffindor/Slytherin (and yes Slytherin/Gryffindor has a different meaning)
It’s safe to say that not many people who know you truly know you, because you are a wealth of contradictions.
Tessa is very private on what she shares, either on social media or interviews. When she does at first you think she’s “leading” you down one path but then boom there was a quick curve in the pah.
You are individualistic and self-motivated
Tessa knows who she is and what she wants.
but you’re also dedicated to a small group of tight-knit friends, to the extent that some people think of you as cliquish.
For this you can pretty much say “dedicated to Scott” LOL. Tessa’s world professional and personal basically involves around Scott to where yes the cliquish word choice could apply (but I think they are more then that). More then Scott, Tessa is dedicated to skating world in general. And of course she has other interests and passions such as fashion.
You have a strong moral compass
I take this as Tessa wants to win and be the best by working hard and not cheating or taking advantage of her competition.
but your ambition and desire for excellence sometimes cause internal conflicts that you need to use all your considerable wits to resolve.
Also her (and Scott) being the best need it be for a competition or just a show is important to her. She always wants to give and show her best and when something stops that from happening Tessa struggles with it. And it takes her awhile to realize or resolve with herself that not being the best at all times is ok.
Without saying it isn’t a perfect fit but I personally think it’s pretty good. And I will declare this has my official answer!
Here are all the hybrid descriptions as I promised.
Gryffindor/Ravenclaw: Gryffinclaws like you are rare in the wild, but you’re easy to recognize as a Gryffinclaw because you’re bold, outgoing, and a natural leader. Your ambition and your drive to change the world are powerful forces inside you, but they’re tempered and softened by your knowledge and your understanding, as well as your keen wit and sense of humor. If they haven’t already, somebody should probably put you in charge of something big.
Hufflepuff/Gryffindor: Huffledors like you are a bit of a contradiction. Because of your deep love of your family, your attachment to animals and the natural world, and the fact that you are so open and kind with everyone, many people think that you’re a pushover. But far beyond your warm exterior is a hardness, grit, and a passionate intensity that would truly surprise people who only know you superficially.
Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw: You thrive in collaborations and group projects, but you’re just as comfortable doing things on your own. Those who know you well know how smart you are, but it’s not something you like to show off. In fact, it doesn’t even really bother you when someone else takes credit for something you figured out, because you enjoy the process of working through a problem much more than the rewards of recognition
Ravenclaw/Gryffindor: Welcome to Ravendor – a truly elite house. Your keen, analytical mind and deep love of knowledge for its own sake were not enough alone to get you into this house, because Ravindors must also be lovers of people. To you, most people are both an open book and an endless, beautiful mystery, and your combination of compassion for people you don’t understand, and fascination with what it is that makes them different, truly sets you apart.
Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff: It could be said of you that books are your best friends, but your actual friends are incredibly important to you as well. You love learning, researching, and becoming the master of a particular topic, but you know that a life of the mind is meaningless without true friends to share your thoughts and insights with. You have an extremely strong moral compass, but it comes from thinking about morality logically, rather than from just feeling what’s right and wrong.
Ravenclaw/Slytherin: You have a genuine love of learning and acquiring new knowledge, but your efforts at self-improvement are geared specifically towards achieving the success you know you deserve. You prefer to avoid confrontation, not because you’re afraid of it, but because you don’t suffer fools gladly. You have a particular gift for seeing the merit of both sides of an argument, and you’re not afraid to use that ability to win in a fight, even when you know you’re wrong.
Slytherin/Gryffindor: You can appear cold and standoffish to people who don’t know you well, but you’re deeply attached to your closest friends. Your fiercely competitive instincts are tempered by an innate sense of fairness that will allow other people to get something you want if you feel they truly deserve it, but none of that really matters too much because you almost always get your way in the end. You are, to put it mildly, extremely resourceful.
Slytherin/Hufflepuff: You care deeply about your reputation, and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to achieve greatness…except if that means in any way harming a friend. You are cunning and can be very effectively manipulative when you need to, but you’re just as likely to use those abilities to help people you love as you are to get the recognition you deserve in life.
Slytherin/Ravenclaw: Slytherclaw is the hybrid house that has at once the most potential to achieve greatness and the most potential to do harm. Your sharp wit and intelligence is matched with a willingness to do whatever it takes to get ahead, including taking some serious risks. Your combination of cunning and analytical intelligence make you an asset on any team, but in general, you prefer to work alone.
Now where would you put Tessa based on these meanings? Should I do Scott next?

Big Read: Why Canada Will Always Be A Hockey Country
CAP/AIDS is a signed up Canadian Charity # 88898 7500 RR0001 with one staff working in Canada and a voluntary Board of Directors based in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver. Site: www.capaids.org. Satisfy the CAP/AIDS Board: CAP/AIDS BOARD.
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development's Better Life Index ranks Canada amongst the finest places to reside in the world. Here's why. A research study published yesterday by the Company for Economic Co-operation and Advancement (OECD) found that "Canada carries out exceptionally well in procedures of wellness," according to an online report.
The study scored 36 nations, including 34 OECD members, Russia and Brazil. No total ranking is reported. The findings will surprise some, offered our 7.2% national unemployment rate, 14.5% youth joblessness rate and economic growth projections that stay personal injury law firms Toronto soft in the short-term. Here are 7 highlights from the OECD report: The average household makes US$ 28,194 each year after taxes.
There is variation at both ends of the incomes spectrum however, not remarkably. The leading 20% takes house US$ 55,718, while the bottom 20% makes US$ 10,526. The Breakup
I feel like there is a reasonable amount of time to talk about a breakup after it happens. The amount of time can vary from person to person, but after a time, you’ve expected to be “over it” and not obsess or talk about it anymore. I try not to bother people with the fact that my mind drifts to my ex while I am driving home from work or that I have sleepless nights because I saw something on facebook that I can’t get out of my conscious train of thoughts. Unfortunately, I’ve tried to keep as much of the breakup internalized. When you still love your ex, you don’t want to see them hurting, even when they are badmouthing you and everything you did while you were together. How can I ever find closure keeping things bottled inside, pretending that I don’t have unresolved feelings?
Unfortunately, my relationship isn’t with a person of flesh and blood, but a community of phenomenal individuals, brought together by shared passions. For 8 summers, I found myself falling more and more in love with Camp Ten Trees. After a rocky start, it truly became a part of my life that I never imagined would ever leave me. I met amazing campers, staff, and volunteers. I spent time scrubbing pans, pushing boats, snoring campers to sleep, and having 8 of the best experiences I could have ever hoped for. When the job came open, I felt like it was calling me to apply. I knew camp, I had the skills, I experience life as a brown person, and I loved camp so much. With Prancer on board to boost engagement, and the community working together in ways I hadn’t witnessed, I thought for sure that 2017 was going to be the best camp year yet. I remember getting the call with an offer and having so much happiness I almost couldn’t contain it. I was going to be a big part of making a major impact in the community.
Unfortunately, just 6 fast months later, what had felt so full of promise came apart so very quickly. When people asked me about the breakup while it was happening, I tried to figure out an easy way to write what had happened that led to the sudden separation. I couldn’t bring myself to be mad at camp, and I couldn’t find a way to write my truth about the events that came cascading down so quickly. Instead, I told people “Whatever may have surrounded my departure, I just hope that the volunteers I volunteered with throughout the last eight years will remember that instead of whatever is being said about why I resigned.” And with that, I resigned myself to an apparently endless state of post-breakup internal turmoil. I allowed a constant loop of questions to creep into my thoughts…Will we get back together in the future? Should I have done things differently? How dare they say that about me! What are our mutual friends thinking about everything? How could this have been avoided? Did I mess things up by going to this next level?
I’ve now been separated from camp for longer than I spent as a paid staff member, and that thought is a little amazing to me. I am hoping that by writing this, it will help put me on the path to being truly ok with the breakup and with the sense of needing all the loose ends tied up neatly. It is ok to have unfinished business.
To break down my employment…I can say that my employment took a path that no one could foresee. Two positions had been created 2 months before I was hired. The ED resigned the week I accepted my job, and the result was a team of 4 employees who had never worked for camp before and who were all within their first 6 months. Personally, I had to create the first new camp session in the history of the organization with 7 weeks to plan and execute. Added to that, the team of 4 was reduced to 2 in my first 3 months, with a large chunk of work being absorbed into my role. Now, with the new program complete, I had 2 months to co-organize an auction that was starting only slightly higher than ground-level. Fast forward to the auction, it happened. No one died. Money was raised.
Looking back at the 6 months I was a paid staff, the job was always hard. Harder than anyone I’ve talked to had anticipated. Some of the hardest work came in my last month. There was a grueling 2 weeks where I was trying to catch up on work missed as CD, while trying to keep up the work of the ED, while trying to make sure the functions of the CL were done while that person was on vacation, while remotely training 1 new staff, while trying to stay supportive of the other new staff who was only a few weeks into their role. For those 2 weeks of 2017 had the entire weight of camp was on my shoulders…trying to do 3 jobs and create 2 at the same time. I was also in the process of closing on a house, just to add in some more variables.
Could I have spent more time reflecting in the moment and coping differently? Yes. Did the ways I chose to cope affect my output of work? No. I had a lot of work to do, but I was managing the workload and getting vital deadlines met. In a meeting with the staff and board in January, we were asked to talk about how we deal with things. I shared that I use a 3-tier system: aviate, navigate, communicate. Aviate: keep the plane in the air (keep camp functioning). Navigate: watch out for mountains, buildings, other traffic, etc. (predict issues and redirect). Communicate: tell the traffic controllers what it is you are doing (let people know what is happening). I definitely spent a lot of time in the top tier of functioning while I was working at camp.
Well…now we probably get to “the incident”. The undisputable basics are pretty straight forward, and can be summarized with a few events. A workplace conflict evolved between Prancer and myself. Neither of us addressed the issue directly with the other. Prancer brought their concerns to the board. The board discussed the concerns and a meeting was scheduled between us and representatives of the board. The meeting happened. Following the meeting, I voluntarily resigned. 2 weeks later, I was no longer an employee of Camp Ten Trees.
Now that doesn’t really appease anyone’s thirst for juicy details, and it isn’t meant to. After resigning, a friend told me that it sounded like I should read a book called “Conflict is Not Abuse”. I went to the bookstore, got a copy and started reading it that night. It was a really good book about the escalation of routine conflict to higher levels, often gaining violent subtext. It also dissects how the surrounding people in conflict tend to fuel it instead of diffuse it. I think the biggest thing I took away was of course noting how conflict is taken as abuse, whether extreme or routine. A victim and villain are created and assumptions are made, when conflict is rarely abuse. I’d recommend the book to anyone.
I admit partial fault in the breakup and I hope that the people involved in camp leadership understand their partial fault in the breakup. In my exit interview with board representatives, and when asked, I have always said that my reason for resigning was because of how the board, as fully responsible for the health of the organization (including management of staff), handled the response to the incident.
The board chose to hold a meeting with 5 people present without choosing to meet with me first. The meeting was not shared as anything official until I asked the direct question to board members. The night before the meeting, I was given an incident report for an incident 6 weeks prior, and was told that the meeting was going to be an incident review with the board. No one from the board requested me to document an independent version of events. When asked if the 2 volunteers present for the incident (who’s names and contact information I had) had been contacted for independent versions of events, I was told that the board was unaware of the volunteers being present beforehand. The meeting of 5 people included the 2 staff present, 2 board representatives, and a third staff member. I recorded the meeting on my phone, so I could review the conversation afterwards.
While the meeting did discuss the incident, it was made clear that the meeting was not about an incident but that it was the “most extreme incident in a pattern of behaviors”. Supporting this statement was another document that the board did not provide to me beforehand.
Now, I feel I need a short interlude to explain that I have a learning disability that makes it near impossible for me to process large amounts of information in a short amount of time. While I don’t like to label it as a learning disability, I do try to explain to people that I am a “slow processor” or that I make “unusual expressions” when I think. A lot of time people judge my processing face as rude or judgmental towards them, and I try my best to frontload it when I can. Also, because of this, it is really helpful to have things (like a 5 page account of all the things I do wrong) ahead of time…so I can process it on my own time. I made this very clear to the board member I talked with when explaining my nervousness about walking into the meeting.
Ok, so back to the meeting. It started with 12 minute, and 50 second monologue outlining the highlights of the 5 page document I hadn’t yet seen. It included concerns for the physical safety of youth around me, the lack of integrity I have, my lack of communication, including vague responses, a dislike for the face I make when I am asked questions, and a brief review of the incident. The monologue ended with a question. Now, I need another quick moment because I don’t want this to be too detailed, but more outline some of the reasons I lost faith in the board. I don’t want to give any details of the actual “incident” because if it is truly classified as such with Camp, then I don’t want to disclose anything from a legal document that I saw while under confidentiality as an employee. I will move on now.
After about an hour of unproductive conversation (I had major trouble participating between the high emotions related to pointed accusations, and the rush of unexpected information that I was trying to process). A date was set for a follow up meeting, and the board representative let me know the follow up process and how consequences would be handled. Later that day, I sent in my letter of resignation to a board member, and I went in and started clearing out my workspace.
Backtracking a little, I feel like I should fill in a gap. First, this meeting happened less than a week after I presented a very detailed 6-month report to the board outlining deficiencies I had noted in camp, outlining the results of the staff retreat, and a request that we work together to be the better camp that I knew we could be. After the meeting, I got a high-five from a community member, at least one board member shed some tears, and I had a great conversation with a fellow staff about how awesome camp can be. Leaving that Thursday. I felt like I had made it though the tough parts of working for camp, and was excited to truly refocus on to the programming aspect that I was actually hired to facilitate. I had no intention of resigning.
That meeting, I learned later, was also the meeting that Prancer expressed concerns about our workplace conflict.  To this day, I believe that the base of our conflict was nothing that isn’t experienced and resolved daily in businesses across the world. I believe that it could’ve been mediated and resolved if the board had taken another tactic in responding. I do want to reiterate that I do not blame Prancer for their actions. It is an employee’s right to take concerns to their supervisor. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to respond accordingly from there. The board responded with what I would describe as an employee-led intervention in the guise of an incident debriefing. No one from the board asked me for my side of the conflicts that happened before the meeting. In choosing a response, the board discussed having me continue working for camp, but not actually be allowed to be present at camp sessions. The board withheld information about the meeting (that I specifically requested because of my need), and instead gave one employee a chance to outline all grievances with me while another employee watched (and later added to the grievances). When caught off guard, I attempted to explain that all interactions are not one-sided and that this meeting was not what I expected. One board representative responded that I was being defensive. I knew as soon as this meeting was done, that there was no way I could continue to work for camp.
It was unfortunate that I was told I was physically violent and a danger to youth and adults. It was unfortunate that I was told I needed to report a plan of rebuilding my own internal integrity. What was most unfortunate from my perspective was that my group of supervisors, who are also entrusted with total operations of the organization I loved and supported for years, chose to conduct themselves how they did. I experience life as a brown male. I have been pulled over more times than I can count. I’ve been handcuffed on the side of the road while police toss my car because they made up an excuse. I know how it feels to be criminalized, and while I find it hard to believe they would intentionally choose to criminalize a brown male, I felt worse than any interaction I’ve had with the police. Police can be jerks and cocky, but in the meeting I was told that my core being was wrong, the way I existed was wrong, and my learning disability created a hostile work environment. It was much more intimately violating.
I’m getting a little more worked up now than I should, so I will move to another avenue. Real quickly, I want to add that I had been asking the board for months for an employee handbook, which in any other workplace would outline grievance procedures and other important HR protections and policies. Had the board been able to make any progress on this, it might have also helped when the meeting happened. It might not have, but existing in a world without HR protection was a scary place to be when the board decided that something wrong had happened, and no framework existed for resolution. Their attempt at facilitating a conflict in January led to the staff members being coerced into sharing childhood trauma while members of the board watched. In that same attempt at facilitation from the board, it felt as though the 3 non-white employees were pitted against the 1 white employee in a way that felt bad to most everyone there…yet somehow it still happened.
Now, as I said earlier before this long-winded rant…I admit that I have fault. I could’ve taken different actions before, during, and after the meeting. I am an imperfect being. I hope that in taking the hours to write this (it is now 3:22a because I couldn’t sleep because camp still haunts my thoughts) that members of the camp community get some insight into “the incident”. I don’t need support, but I hope this can offer some understanding to the situation as I see/saw it. As breakups tend to go, there aren’t really winners here. We both lost each other. I lost a community I love. Camp lost a skilled Latino lover.
So, I think that mostly wraps up the basics of my breakup with camp. I will add 1 last part for the immediate post-breakup, because I feel that it is relevant to the overall scenario.
When I resigned, I was hoping I could be a volunteer for summer 2017. I asked a representative from the hiring committee as soon as I resigned if they thought there would be an opening. I was told I could probably be a lifeguard. I thought it might help to show the community at large that I wasn’t right for the CD role, but I still love camp and together we will still make magic happen. I remember when the CD role was seasonal, and the person in the role would send an email at the end of the season saying something along the lines of “your former furless leader and now your furless friend”. I remember that feeling really impactful as a volunteer at the time. Instead, on my last day of work, my 2017 volunteer spot was not there. We wouldn’t be able to reconcile the relationship and return to where we started. I went from being an actual person to being a cause of “emotional labor”.
I was surprised to hear intimate details of the separation from unexpected places, and knew only a handful of people who would have been able to spread the information. At that point, I knew that I was going to be the scapegoat for anything that went bad. Even knowing this, I was rooting for camp and wanted the best for them. In my exit interview, I was told that I could write my own announcement. I wrote it and passed it along. My last day of work came, and no announcement was made. I posted on facebook, and sent an email asking camp to not use the letter I wrote because it no longer reflected my truth. It went out anyway, only edited shorter, and with my name wrong.
As with many long-term relationship, a part of my heart will always love camp. I hope we can get back together someday, and I wish that we could’ve stayed friends after the separation. On one hand, I don’t have to negotiate 3 weeks of vacation when I interview for new jobs. On the other hand, I don’t have the best weeks of my year with people I love so deeply.
