9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?

Definitely To Open Every Door To Night, To Meet Each Rising Sun. It was my first time trying my hand at something so plotty without the canon framework to rely on, there was the whole intrigue element, there was getting a handle on everyone's post-canon characterization, there was having Azula as a POV character without giving away the entire back end of the fic, there was trying to make Sokka's struggle around his sense of purpose and his reluctance to voice it until he had it worked out feel believable and understandable and not like he was just failing to communicate for Plot Purposes.

It was a lot! But I'm really happy with how it turned out, it ended up being a blast to write. I actually took a break in the middle of writing it, too, which ended up being a good thing because I got to refine a lot of my thoughts on Azula and I think the last half of the fic ended up much stronger for it.

12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

So hard to choose! I LOVE Ba Sing Se as a setting for Zuko (and the Gaang in general), it has an 'outside of time' quality to it that lends itself to so many different stories and hijinks and adventures. I'm also a big fan of the Western Air Temple as a setting, and I realize I'm talking about settings not episodes, to *episode* wise...a lot of my AU ideas always go first to the Siege of the North, as in 'how would this change/not change the outcome and how would that ripple throughout the story.'

21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

I have A Process for writing lol, that goes a little like have ideas > collect little bits of dialogue and scenes > brainstorm > outline > scene skeleton > draft > edit > skim-edit as I post

And usually the editing is just once, though for my longer fics things tend to get two edits (once after I write it and then again before it's skim-edited during posting once I've had some distance from the story).But those scene skeletons can sometimes basically be a draft in and of themselves, so I'd say twice to four times, and some scenes that are giving me lots of trouble get picked apart and put back together upward of seven or eight times before I like them.

25. What do you look for in a beta?

multi-chapter third part to my RamKing series ‘silence and patience’ which is just gonna be several chapters of early relationship fluff and smut and is also basically a KingRam manifesto (rated E, 5 chapters(?), first chapter probably 80% complete)

anOther RamKing fic set in early canon, where bisexual icon King takes his friends to a gay bar and sees Ram flirting with some guy. he can’t believe Ram would give a stranger so much attention but ignore him most of the time and decides the solution is to scare the guy away and aggressively flirt with Ram himself. i’m sure u can guess where it’s going. (rated E, oneshot, 40% complete)

Hi, good day 🧡!

Well, The Fusion is a changeable spirit, because it is made up of three entities, each one takes control when they need it or not, it is disorganized or messy like a child, Vaatu does not particularly bother him because he is chaos, although now he has changed by the nature of two child spirits still has the same essence (However, we know that children can be very chaotic).

Jet turtleduck is very determined to take charge to become human again. Unfortunately for him, Longshot and Smellerbee will not accept all of Jet's impulses as before, and well, now they have a golden opportunity to teach him some prudence and patience. However in Jet's eyes, for a long time The Fusion was just a cookie monster (so to speak, since he didn't really eat).

The spirit, especially Zuko looking at him adoringly as he lovingly holds him will coo and cheer at even the most mundane thing Jet does, like ruffling his feathers, Vaatu and Azula have to put a stop to it at various times.

Lu Ten and Iroh were basically kicked out of the Fire Nation naked, nothing in their possessions. So it was a bit more difficult to adjust to the life of begging so abruptly. Iroh isn't attached to the White Lotus, because Lu Ten isn't dead, so they both have their character development through hard and humble work. It is Lu Ten who falls most in love with that kind of life even if it is clumsy and Iroh is a huge enabler for his son.

They both mourn the loss of their family, the death of Zuko and Azula being especially devastating as they were young children.

With the events that converge, the world has more direct contact with the spirits, and it really is not always a good thing, because both worlds do not understand each other, so Lu Ten and Iroh investigate the Spirit World and that is why they know that the spirit what causing such a ruckus in both worlds is more than meets the eye and they get to know who makes it up. Iroh and Lu Ten: Ay, no.

They feel they have responsibility because it is partly family and also because all their lives they were raised to be in charge and be responsible (royalty).

We don't have all the arguments well structured, but the plot that is as shown in the previously published sketch.

5. What character that you're writing do you most identify with?

Oh my god, don't make me choose! Because seriously, every character I write had chunks of myself in them. I think Midwest Sokka's thought process is probably the closest to mine because of the ADHD, but they all get injected with some of my experiences and personality.

But ok, actually, I'm gonna give the ol' shout out to Zuko simply because back when I was around fifteen and still stuck in my abusive dad's house, I was watching this dumb kid's show on Nickelodeon and suddenly there's a character with an abusive dad who's trying to figure out who he is and how to be. And then this kid actually openly confronts his abusive dad and tells him it was wrong how he was treated. Like, I don't know how to explain quite how much of a big deal that was to me, seeing an abuser punished (not forgiven or handwaved away or whatever other shit tends to happen with abusive parents in media) and this kid with trauma succeeding and not turning into his dad but instead becoming better. I've never quite had Zuko's rage-y issues, but so much of his story has always felt really personal to me.

So basically, even in my au stories (which is... all of them, actually), I still feel a strong desire to accurately explore and portray Zuko's trauma and issues and healing in a way that resonates with my own hopefulness and progress as I've gotten older.

Here at the end, I have no idea if this actually answers the question at all because it just became a tangent on Zuko and trauma, but oh well. On a simple level, I love all my characters, specifically Zukka, and I especially love them as a pair :)

Prompt: Zuko hears how Sokka feels about himself wrt the team — the comedy relief, doesn't offer much more than that (basically his portrayal in the play about them)

They’re all...shaken up by the play. Watching themselves (or, mockeries of themselves at least) fail at the important task they were all stressing about wasn’t exactly a morale booster. But Aang apologized to Katara and they discussed the ending as a group to let out their worries and move on.

Zuko hadn’t enjoyed having his scar mocked—it was a lovely reminder that his father didn’t even care enough to remember the day he scarred his eldest child—or reminded of how he treated his uncle, but talking with Toph helped and after a good night’s sleep he was no longer dwelling on it.

Sokka, however, seemed off. He was being extra quiet and hadn’t bossed anyone around all day. Which was strange, since he hadn’t seemed too upset, simply complaining about the quality of jokes his actor told—nothing too important. He’d even gone backstage to fix that and returned triumphantly, so Zuko thought he must be upset about something else. He didn’t know what exactly though.

Sokka was sharpening his space sword and boomerang. Even though Toph could probably do it for him, he insisted on doing it himself. Zuko stood nearby him “Could I sit?” He asked, holding up his own dao and whetstone.

“You don’t have to ask,” Sokka reminded him.

“I don’t want to invade your space. I’m not good at noticing when I’m, like, too close or talking too much, or whatever. So I want you to tell me.”

“I’ve never heard you talk for longer than two minutes, I don’t think you need to worry about that. But, sure, I’ll tell you.”

He knew he was supposed to find a way of asking that was less direct, more polite, but he couldn’t think of the words and this was just easier. “Why are you upset?”

“I’m not upset,” Sokka said immediately. Zuko just let his eyes communicate that he wasn’t accepting that lie. “It’s dumb.” He amended.

“I doubt that, but I want to hear it either way.”

“No. You’ve got enough in you plate with teaching Aang firebending. I shouldn’t be moping or distracting you. Dont—“

“It’s too late, I already know you’re upset and I won’t be able to focus until I know why.”

“Just general worrying, nothing new.” Zuko gave him another skeptical look. “Okay, okay. Fine. I just... I guess I realized the play was kinda right about some things. About me at least.”

Zuko had learned at a young age to hide his confusion, to not ask questions. At best, he was stupid for not understanding. At worst, he was disrespectful and not fit to be a prince. Either way, it was best to be quiet.

But with the gaang—the ridiculous, but oddly catchy name that Sokka had created for them—Zuko was often encouraged to express his confusion, to ask as many questions as he wanted. He didn’t understand—what kind of world was this where you asked questions??—but at least in this situation he realized that asking questions would help Sokka most, so he let his confusion show on his face.

“I don’t understand what you mean,” he said genuinely, “that play portrayed you ridiculously. The only thing you had in common with the on-stage Sokka was the occasional corny joke.”

“Don’t knock the jokes,” Sokka smiled, but Zuko didn’t take the distraction, just staring at him, silently urging him to continue. “I just don’t add anything to the team, okay? I thought maybe I could still be helpful without bending, but my invasion plan caused more harm than good. I’m nothing more than comic relief.”

Zuko stared at him, too shocked for words.

“Damn, I wasn’t telling you that so you could reassure me, but now that you haven’t I feel extra shitty.” Sokka started to get up, but Zuko stopped him.

“Hey, give me a second. I—honestly I was just surprised. I didn’t realize someone so smart could be so dumb.”

“Hey!”

“You’re only comic relief? That’s—that’s ridiculous, Sokka! You smashed me in the head the first day we met and every time you fight her, my sister has the most trouble countering your attacks. It’s easy to fight other benders, but you’re a wildcard.”

Sokka rolled his eyes. “So I can throw my boomerang, big whoop. Katara could do that too, if she wanted to.”

“Okay, but would Katara have been organized enough to navigate across the world? And find food? And meet deadlines? Or would she and Aang have gotten distracted and stayed somewhere too long and found their little rest brought about a lot of problems?”

“I’m a walking calendar? That’s what I add to the team?”

“Your fighting style is just as valuable as anyone else’s and your organization and intelligence are essential to survival and success! What else do you want to hear?”

“Nothing, if that’s what I offer to the team it’s better than nothing I guess.”

This time when he got up, Sokka didn’t even bother to pick up his weapons. He just set off in the direction of his room.

“Hey!” Zuko called. “I’ll tell you more, but only if you promise not to make fun of me.”

“Make fun of you? I’m the one here whining like a baby.”

“I just—we don’t really do the compliments thing in the Fire Nation and usually if you say anything nice it’s considered weak—but, Sokka, the truth is you’re the most important member of this team. More important than Aang or me or anyone. It wouldn’t matter that there was an avatar if he didn’t believe in himself, if he had no purpose or direction. You give that to Aang, you’re always encouraging him and guiding him. Yeah, you’re goddamn smart and a battle strategist and great at planning, but you’re also the glue of this team. Toph and Katara would’ve killed each other ages ago without you. Suki wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t rescued her. And I, for one, just think you’re pretty damn awesome.”

“You do?”

“Well, duh.”

He didn’t know exactly when Sokka had sat down or when their faces had gotten so close together, but he stared into the boy’s eyes. resisting the urge to glance at his lips.

“What else?” Sokka asked.

“You’re handsome,” Zuko couldn’t help but admit.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah,” Zuko said, before he leaned forward and kissed Sokka.

now here’s the thing, anon. i read the og post wrong and thought that the gay kid and the hand holding kid were the same. i didn’t realize until i’d written most of my own post so while this should be tomnook holding hands to encourage zuko, my alternative version is just completely it’s own thing:

hakoda, minding his own business: sees tomkin holding zuko’s hand (i feel like nanook would also be willing to hold his hand but the joke works better this way, okay?)

hakoda: you finally admitted you like each other?!

tomkin: huh

zuko: WHAT?!?

nanook: 😂

hakoda: *points awkwardly at their hands*

tomkin: no, i’m not into zuko! i’m pretty sure your son is actually—

hakoda: what

zuko: what

tomkin: anyway, that’s a problem for a different day, but zuko and i aren’t together, we just hold hands in public sometimes

I can doubt about a lot of things. I can adapt to a lot of situations, I can hear many versions of the same story. But if there is one thing I am abso-friggin'-lutely sure about, with unbreakable certainty, without a single shadow of doubt is that 👏🏽 ZUKO 👏🏽 IS 👏🏽 DEMISEXUAL! 👏🏽
