Are they gonna use the fact that he’s got that evil devil in the shoulder personality controlling him to deny the fact that deep down, even it they’re warped by his fear, those are bruce thoughts?? Letting his kids to be taken by the police, and the other cowering in the dark, suffocating from the fear of merely existing?

So, I finally read the Gotham War arc from start to finish, and the whole thing was insane, but it has provided even more evidence that Tim has absolutely nonexistent survival instincts.

Early on in the arc, Tim basically says that he’s sympathetic to Catwoman’s ideas. Bruce threatens to arrest him. You’d think Tim would…maybe be more careful? Nope. Later, when Bruce and Jason are fighting, Tim grabs Bruce and attempts to pull him off Jason. Keep in mind, this is a teenager attempting to move a large adult, there is NO way this was going to work, but Tim tries it anyway. And then, Batman throws him off and kicks him hard enough that he flies across the room.

It should be pretty clear at this point that Batman cannot be reasoned with. And yet. And yet. When Nightwing and Batman start fighting, Tim arrives and takes over for Nightwing. But instead of fighting Bruce, Tim says he just wants to talk and they can work this all out. Batman then attacks him and breaks his bo staff with a punch, tells him they can only talk when Tim comes to his senses, and hits Tim hard enough that he, again, goes flying.

You’d think at this point, Tim would’ve long since given up on diplomacy. But nope! Nightwing tags into the fight. And then, as Nightwing is winning, Tim pulls Dick off of Bruce and tells him that fighting isn’t the answer and Bruce “needs help.”

I can’t decide if this is hilarious or horrifying. Like, Tim Drake has the survival instincts of a wet paper bag…but the fact that he’s still defending Batman after this is concerning.

I finally managed to pin down what exactly was eating at me after reading that whole bit of Jason Gets Mindfucked (aka Batman 138)

so Bruce's (or Zur Batman, or however you might interpret that slippery divide between Zur and Bruce) whole reason to give Jason a new flavor of ptsd-on-crack is to prevent him from killing again, right? Like he explicitly says "This is the only way," when he's speaking to Jason.

and when he goes on to explain it further....

Bruce says he's doing this to make him a better person. That this is the best way to make Jason stop doing what he wants and force him to live a 'normal' life.

And Bruce is saying that in his eyes, what Jason is now experiencing isn't a punishment.

Bruce calls this a gift. This is Bruce saving Jason from himself. This is how Jason will get a chance at a meaningful life. Bruce has decided that anything Jason chooses is wrong, and he is going to correct it.

Even if it means Jason is left unable to move.

Even if it means Jason is left unable to defend himself.

Even if it means Jason is left alone.

And if this 'failsafe' can really, truly, wholly stop someone from killing....

Why isn't Batman putting this in every single one of his Rogues?

Bruce apparently has the key to ending all of the Gotham rogues' murderous escapades, so wouldn't it make sense to put this in the heads of every single one of them? Of every single convicted criminal who has ever killed another human being?

If this isn't a punishment, if this is a way to truly reform a criminal permanently... why only Jason?

I know a lot has happened in today's leak and I don't want to be one of those people who focus only on their favorite character, but this issue was honestly so infuriating. This "angry arrogant brat who puts his father on a pedestal" portrayal of Damian is soooooo fucking outdated, has Zdarsky even picked any Damian's comic from the last 8 years?

Have you read the first issue of B&R 2023 last month? Damian was slamming his door on Bruce's face each time he tried making small talk with him, Robin 2021? Bruce was literally chasing Damian and begging for his forgiveness for an entire year? There's really no logical reason why Damian would be so fiercely protective of Bruce or passionately fight on his side, especially considering how Bruce is currently acting, but to have him be so aggressive and condescending toward the others is so regressive and degrading toward his character.

Like I know Tim is his favorite, we can tell by how he had Bruce listing all the things that make Tim better than the other Robins as well as having Tim literally descending in an angelic light to save Bruce just a couple of issues ago, but Damian's cameo and that cringey "All Damian does is fight Bruce while TIM is the only one who tries saving him<3" line were so unnecessary and probably happened so that Tim's writers can once again make Tim look good by putting other characters down, again.

But hey, they had Tim hugging Damian at the end so lets all aww at their "brotherism" and ignore everything else.

Wait what the hell is happening on the current arc? It sounds like this comic year should be erased from the public consciousness.

Sure spoilers for Gotham war but Bruce was sleeping for a wee while bc of the fall out of night terrors he also lost a hand and bc of failsafe he's also not really himself rn bc of him unlocking his secret personality of zur - anyway catwoman calls everyone to a meeting to tell them what she's been up to which is that she's been scouting the goons from the other villains and training them so they only steal from the rich which obviously Bruce doesn't like so he starts going after the people selina has been training - most of the bats are kinda just on the sidelines but are more in-line with selina apart from Jason who is completely on selinas side (except for in his own solo Gotham war side story which I honestly don't know when it takes place bc in it selina and Jason fall out bc jason doesn't actually believe any of the goons are gonna change and they'll crawl back to joker and the rest eventually ) but in the main story Jason is very much on selinas side to the point where she's helping him distract Bruce - the first time Bruce and Jason fight the rest of the bats (dick Tim cass steph and duke) show up and Bruce beats quiet a few of them but is struggling a bit against Jason at the end until damian swoops in to save him - damian and Bruce retreat to the redbrick House (which has been Bruce's base basically since alfred died a few years back) the next morning a lawyer comes to the redbrick to tell Bruce someone has brought Wayne Manor which is surprising to Bruce so he rushes to the batcave to find out oh no vandal savage has brought Wayne Manor - Bruce and Jason end up fighting again when Jason is pulling another heist with a few of the goons but this time Bruce kidnaps Jason and injects him with something he claims it changes Jason personality so every time he feels adrenaline he will basically have a panic attack - dick at this point is looking for Jason but ends up finding damian Tim also shows up and damian gets handcuffed to a street lamp - batman shows up and starts fighting dick and Tim and dick finds out what Bruce did to Jason- Bruce ends up fleeing leaving damian behind which obviously really upsets damian - back with Jason selinas lieutenant shows up and reveals she's been vandals daughter this whole time and wants to know if Jason would be interested in immortality only for her to realise Jason's too far into his fear to really be of use to her so she leaves him alone in honestly one of the most heartbreaking panels I've ever seen
