Thera wasn’t sure she was going to make it - or more exactly, not make it in time. The delay was more annoying than dangerous, a small scuffle with an overconfident pirate gang who remembered her from too long ago; but they’d bloodied the Nocturne’s nose enough that a patch had been needed before she could risk hyperspace.

They’d been at Exegol, the tough, bristly little freighter and her smuggler Captain, sunk out there among the fighters, battelships and tiny but indomitable planet-hoppers who had decided enough was enough and it was time to make a stand.

She missed the speeches, the ceremonies - though Force forgive her, those parts she didn't actually mind. But she wanted to be there, needed to be there, sometime before the night was done. It was an unusual feeling, landing the ship in the hangar bay wearing silk and heels, but time was saved as she spent a last few minutes in front of the mirror, settling her nerves.

Sequins glittered at her shoulders, and the long, split skirt swirled around her legs as she hurried down the corridor, slowing her stride to something less rushed as she walked into the hall where the party was being held, eyes darting in search of a particular face (and a particular droid).

USS Oregon (BB-3): the missing Museum Ship

While the Battelship Texas is currently the oldest surviving US battleship, she is not the first to be preserved as a Museum ship. The first was USS Oregon (BB-3). She was last the first class of battleships ordered by the US Navy, the Indiana class. She is also one of the few battleships built on the West Coast, having been built at Union Iron Works in San Francisco, CA. She was commissioned in 1896.

She shot into public attention in 1898 when she completed a trip from San Francisco to Florida is 66 days to join the East fleet when Spanish-America War began. This was in the days before the Panama Canal and drove home the need for the canal to the US government.

After the war, she was sent back to the west coast. She went on to serve in the Philippine-American War and spent a year in China during the Boxer Revolution before returning to the US. She was decommissioned in 1906 and recommissioned in 1911. She escorted transport ships during WWI and was decommissioned a final time in 1919. In accordance with Washington Naval Treaty, was made incapable of war. She was towed to and anchored on the Williamette River in Portland, Oregon in June 1925. She was technically lent to the state of Oregon from the US Navy, to serve as a museum ship.

In November 1942, the state of Oregon decided as part of its war drive to return the historic ship to the Navy to use as they saw fit. Which, in the need for valuable metals, determined her scape value was worth more than any capacity as a warship.

She was sold to scraping company to be scraped. However, after she was striped of her upper structure and they decided to turned her into a munition barge. The Navy was unhappy with this and repossessed the hulk. In 1943, she was towed out to Guam and stayed there until 1956 where was unceremoniusly towed to Japan and finally broken up.

Today, all that remains of her is her mast, bow Crest and a few other pieces.

A lot of what was learned during her time was a Museum Ship was applied to USS Texas became a museum ship in 1948.

Life on Hashima Island (or The Battelship Island) before It was abandoned in 1974.

The 6.3-hectare (16-acre) island was known for its undersea coal mines, established in 1887, which operated during the industrialization of Japan. The island reached a peak population of 5,259 in 1959.

Phim lịch sử chiến tranh Battleship Island liệu có trở thành siêu phẩm?

“Battleship Island” (Đảo địa ngục) có lẽ là từ khóa “hot” nhất của điện ảnh trong tháng 8 vừa qua, vượt ra cả biên giới Hàn Quốc. Đại diện nhà sản xuất cho biết bộ phim đã được 113 nước đặt mua với giá cao ngất ngưỡng. Nhưng liệu bom tấn này đã thực sự thỏa mãn mong đợi của người hâm mộ?

Thành công không chỉ đến từ sao khủng!

Batleship Island kể về cuộc đào tẩu của 400 công nhân Hàn bị Nhật bắt giữ và bóc lột sức lao động tàn tệ tại đảo Hashima năm 1945. Chẳng phải tự nhiên mà nam diễn viên tên tuổi So Ji Sub (vai chàng gangster Choi Chil-sung) đồng ý tham gia ngay cả khi chưa đọc kịch bản. Tất cả những gì anh quan tâm khi được mời góp mặt trong bộ phim này là cơ hội hợp tác cùng Ryoo Seung Wan – đạo diễn “triệu vé” với những tác phẩm điện ảnh đình đám như Veteran (2015), The Berlin File (2013) và The Unjust (2010).

Một So Ji Sub đã đủ “nặng ký”. Đằng này, danh sách dàn diễn viên bảo chứng cho sự thành công của Battleship Island còn trải dài với những cái tên khủng không kém: nam tài tử hạng A Hwang Jung Min, “nam thần” dẫn đầu trào lưu Hallyu Song Joong Ki, ảnh hậu Rồng Xanh 2015 Lee Jung Hyun và cô bé đầy tài năng Kim Su An đã từng lấy đi không ít nước mắt của khán giả trong bộ phim kỷ lục Train to Busan trước đó.

Tuy nhiên bên cạnh hiệu quả truyền thông, việc có quá nhiều tuyến nhân vật đã trở thành điểm yếu khiến mạch phim rời rạc, chưa có sự tập trung cụ thể để tạo dấu ấn với người xem. Battelship Island còn ôm đồm trong việc truyền tải các thông điệp. Xuyên suốt hơn 2 tiếng đồng hồ, các câu chuyện về tình cha con, tình yêu, tình dân tộc và chủ nghĩa anh hùng trong thời chiến cứ đan xen nhau lẫn lộn. Có quá nhiều hình tượng và người xem không biết nên chọn cái nào để “đọng” lại sau khi ra khỏi rạp.

Cùng bối cảnh cuộc sống quân dịch trong Thế chiến thứ 2 nhưng bộ phim “Life is Beautiful” của Ý (từng đọat 3 giải Oscar) đã khắc họa tình cảm cha con một cách sâu sắc hơn với cách kể chuyện khéo léo và các tình tiết tinh tế. Ý tưởng của bộ phim này cũng dựa vào câu chuyện có thật, và kết cấu được chia thành hai phần rõ ràng: trước và sau khi nhân vật chính Guido cùng con trai bị lính Đức bắt đưa về trại tập trung dành cho người Do Thái. Lời nói dối vĩ đại của người cha, một tinh thần lạc quan mạnh mẽ bất chấp hoàn cảnh và sự thông minh của ông đã cứu đứa con bé bỏng, thơ ngây thoát khỏi hiểm nguy trong thời điểm cấp bách chính là điểm sáng của “Life is Beautiful”. Tác phẩm của Ý này còn là một minh chứng tiêu biểu cho việc không phải phim lịch sử nào cũng khô khan, ảm đạm. Những tình huống này dễ dàng tìm thấy trong Battleship Island, nhưng như đã nói ở trên, chưa được đạo diễn Ryoo Seung Wan xử lý triệt để và chỉn chu như anh đã từng thực hiện thành công với Veteran. Và giá như các chi tiết đắt giá mang tính tượng trưng khác như phân đoạn đoàn vũ công chơi nhạc mang lại sức sống cho quần đảo tăm tối, hai cha con Lee Kang-ok chơi cùng nhau dưới mưa, hay các yếu tố hài hước vốn là đặc sản của điện ảnh Hàn được làm rõ nét hơn thì có lẽ khán giả cũng đã thỏa mãn hơn.

Đường đến kỷ lục phòng vé.

Tuy vậy, không thể phủ nhận thành công về mặt thương mại của Battleship Island. Tại “sân nhà”, bộ phim nhanh chóng thu về 27, 8 triệu USD (khoảng 631 tỉ VND) sau 5 ngày công chiếu và hiện lập kỉ lục bộ phim bán được 5 triệu vé nhanh nhất ở Hàn Quốc năm 2017. Riêng tại Việt Nam, bộ phim đã có hơn 100.000 lượt khán giả, thu về 10 tỉ VND chỉ trong 4 ngày đầu tiên!

Ngoài dàn sao hùng hậu, một cái neo khác của Battleship Island giúp kéo khách đến rạp chính là yếu tố lịch sử bị lãng quên gây tranh cãi. Không chỉ riêng Hàn Quốc, chủ nghĩa dân tộc thời chiến đang là xu hướng mới của nền điện ảnh thế giới, cứ nhìn vào chiến thắng vang dội tại phòng vé của Chiến Lang 2 (Trung Quốc), Baahubali 2 (Ấn Độ) hay Dunkrik (Anh-Mỹ) sẽ rõ.

Kết quả này hoàn toàn xứng đáng với tâm huyết của đội ngũ sản xuất phim Battleship Island. Để phục dựng lại vùng đảo địa ngục một cách chân thực đến từng chi ti���t, đoàn làm phim đã mất gần 1 năm ròng, từ lúc lập kế hoạch đến lúc xây dựng phim trường cực lớn tại Chuncheon, Gangwon. Nhờ đó hình ảnh trong phim đẹp đến choáng ngợp, đặc biệt là những phân đoạn quay đại cảnh hoành tráng. Kỹ thuật quay và hậu dựng phim cũng được thực hiện một cách mượt mà, chuyên nghiệp.

Tài khoản Instagram rnk_pd, Chief Producer của bộ phim đã chia sẻ về quá trình luyện tập nghiêm túc, kỹ lưỡng của các diễn viên cho các màn hành động bắt mắt, hay những phân cảnh đòi sự kết hợp cực kì ăn ý của các nhân vật.

Nhìn chung, nếu không quá khắt khe về nội dung, Battleship Island vẫn là một tác phẩm điện ảnh về lịch sử đáng xem (và có thể xem nhiều lần) trong mùa hè này.

Hashima Island, Japan. Hashima island in Japan has a wide array of nicknames, including Battelship Island (for its shape) and Ghost Island. From the late 1800s to late 1900s, the island was populated because of the access it granted to undersea coal mines. However, as Japan gradually switched from coal to petroleum, the mines (and the buildings that sprung up around them to support their workers) closed down, leaving an isolated ghost town that reminds some of a ghostly concrete battleship.
