While waiting for the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 I started playing Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 again and then this happened… The curse and benefit of owning a 3D printer…

As far as I've seen, the crazy time antics of Warhammer 40k are really not explored enough. I think I've heard that in the Night Lords trilogy there are some guys from a bit after the heresy cause of the fuckery of the eye of terror, and that guy you play as in battlefleet gothic 2 is way farther in the future than he thought, but what about going back? What about the dates being completely fucked up?
If you live on a forge world you might be producing lasguns for a war that ended before you were born, started after you die, and is still ongoing.
Imagine current Ad-mech being transported back to the foundation of mars, seeing their planet be raised up despite them never thinking they would be allowed to set foot on it in the 42nd millennium.
An imperial admiral having his ship be badly damaged and returning to the rendezvous point or whatever, but the tides of the warp sent the ship back in time to the very point when it originally arrived there, and is destroyed due to having the same ID signal as itself in a never ending loop.
Tangent
The logistics of the imperium are one of the coolest parts of the lore to me. To be anything other than a statistic is an unimaginably small statistical improbability. Heros of the imperium are a statistic. The custodes are a statistic. Worlds, systems, sub-sectors, sectors, all statistics. It's existential. Almost every single person in the imperium is a fraction of a fraction of a fraction, where a few pixels on a screen or a smudged letter written in ink is the only proof of your existence. What does it mean to rise above it? Most space marines are forgotten within a few centuries, their names and maybe their deeds which are mentioned in a habitual prayer barely acknowledged by their lineage are all that they are. It might not even be their name, since I know that some chapters take names from heroes past. The closest thing you can have to being remembered by more than a few people is having a piece of equipment named after you, like the Land Raider. But there isn't any soul in it.
Anyways, thanks for reading all of that if you did, hope you have a good day.

A fun story.... Even if the ending is not canon.
Actually... I am not sure how much of this games story would fit in canon, but I like the voice acting.

All the video games Jack played in 2023, reviewed.
Since it's a tradition of mine and I like seeing how far I've come vis-a-vis video games, here's another quick-fire round of every game I played this year.
Deathloop
Arkane's actionized spin off to Dishonored is a fine game in its own right, but after years of experimentation and refinement in their field many ImSim heads such as myself expected something more grander and complex, when Deathloop was in many ways the opposite of that.
Hitman 3
Agent 47's swan song goes to the series greatest heights possible, but the formula starts to bristle at the edges a little. About the right time to conclude the series I think. Freelance mode can go fuck itself.
Bioshock 2 and Minerva's Den
Definitely a strange beast. An attempt to simultaneously capture what made the original so iconic while also trying to put a completely different spin on it. I'm not sure it really works, but it's interesting to compare the two. The DLC on the other hand, manages to use it's limited scale to much better effect.
Alien Isolation
Finally finished this masterpiece of the franchise. The plot sort of goes nowhere in it's back second half and the DLC is for completists only. Still, the vibes and visuals look as good today as they did ten years ago.
Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2
A well designed and fun space strategy game that really gets the 40k vibe, but even so the campaign feels just a little too long to warrant multiple playthroughs. After finishing the Imperial campaign I'm in no hurry to go through the whole thing again with the other factions.
Aliens Dark Descent
After Isolation it was such a surprise to see another Alien game that just 'gets it.' While there are certain creative decisions I didn't jive with, the overall experience is a tense and genuine horror romp.
System Shock
That Nightdive managed to preserve the overall experience of the original, and also update it to modern sensibilities is nothing short of a miracle. I have some minor criticisms about the music and the ending, but otherwise an uncompromised update of a trendsetting classic.
Return of the Obra Dinn
One of those games that really tries to tell a story that only video games can. Glad I went into it blind, and I'd love to see it inspire more experimental mystery solving games.
Divinity Original Sin 2
I don't see the masterpiece in this that some do, but an impressive effort nonetheless. Too long and too sprawling, but expertly designed and deftly told.
Zeno Clash and Zeno Clash 2
I love these stupid weird games even if I still can't tell if I was playing it properly or just flailing about. They deserve far more recognition than they got.
The Walking Dead: Michonne, A New Frontier, The Final Season
As ever you can understand that Telltale put a lot of heart into their games, but ultimately they still collapse under the weight of the source materials tropes and conventions. A noble effort, but not without an eye-roll or two.
Neverwinter Nights
So far I've played just the base campaign and I can do nothing but call it a slog. Beyond a few interesting ideas here and there it's a distillation of all the worst parts of the Infinity Engine era with no improvements of it's own. No charm, no atmosphere, no character, physically and literally.
Alright then folks. That's about it. Let's see what the video games of 2024 bring.

In the time I was able to arrive, set up, play, and clear up a 1000 point Battlefleet Gothic game, the 40k players next to us managed to make it to "the bottom of round 2."
Warhammer has stopped being a game, and curdled into a four-hour suffering pact. Please pray for their souls.

yoooo, I've been into 40k for a couple years now, mostly the books, and I've been trying to get my wife into it too, but I know she'd be more into it if there were comedy.
Lo and behold, we literally JUST started reading Ciaphas Cain about a month or 2 ago together, like a chapter a week, and totally loving it!
anyways just crazy to see one of my favorite blogs reading it for the first time too.
Well first off I am FLATTERED! Thank you!
I share the same reluctance about 40K and is a big reason I put off exploring it in favor of Fantasy. Not only do I like Fantasy settings better, WH Fantasy just isn't as deeply grimdark as 40K. Let's be honest, the Empire of Man is infinitely less horrible to live in than the Imperium.
Then I started playing Battlefleet Gothic 2 and thoroughly enioyed the story characters. And recently began reading novels like The Infinite and the Divine...and now Cain...
I'm pretty hooked.

@enfouled tagged me, and I don't think I've ever gotten to try one of these tag thingies before! last song you listened to: idk, some Halo playlist to be hype background while I try to work on reading and discussions for the class I'm taking. (Playlist says Duty Bound from halo 2) last movie you watched: Dredd 2012, I love Karl Urban, and wanted some dystopia vibes before my Mothership game currently watching: Unwanted Undead Adventurer, Bang Brave Bravern, Shangrila Frontier, Apothecary Diaries, and Dungeon Meshi. There's a lot of decent fantasy stuff in anime this season, and I'm always looking for ideas I could use in my pathfinder game other things you've watched this year: Interview with the Vampire 2022, For All Mankind, and some old Vampire the masquerade lore videos cause the vibes based powers of IwtV pissed me off (great show, I'm just a worldbuilding pedant) currently reading: Changeling the Lost core rules, Among the Hollow, Tongues of Serpents, and I haven't read any of it recently, but I'm itching to get back into Unjust Depths. Among the Hollow has also been kinda suffering, but that's cause it's part of my most recent attempt to read a physical book. Audiobooks and ereaders are my friends. currently listening to: Ego Death by Polyphia. I like the guitar :3 otherwise I've been bouncing between a few study playlists. Polyphia isn't study music, I don't wanna flash to homework when I put them on. currently working on: A dozen different projects? I got my materials for my first quilt, I just need to get my machine running, as of last night, I got an itch to try scratch building a tank out of styrene sheets, I'm gonna be painting up more Battlefleet gothic minis from my backlog this weekend, and intend to paint up more minis in general one I break the painting dry spell and pull out my paints and brushes again. I wanna try writing stuff since I haven't been painting minis and I wanna play with OCs. current obsession: The obsession pinball has been bouncing around my head, mostly between VtM, my OC Alex, and some olther old and new OC ideas in the mental blender Who to tag... @nentuaby @suckmylargeochinchin if you want to play?

Been replaying Battlefleet Gothic 2. Game really is good, just doesn't have much to it outside the story mode. If it had a galactic conquest like game mode or something, it'd be so fucking good. Or if it at least was easily mod-able like Empire at War is.

There's one point where we could not get any titanium and we thought that was adamantium and it's not but it fits and people have to check everybody is getting psyched up I do appreciate this it is me announcing it
Sherry
I'm going to go on this now and we do understand what you're saying we do did check it and they are the most powerful they can waste like an entire fleet of 100 million itself if you can't it can ram them and just destroy them by doing that it's an amazing shift and we know you have something to do with it and he says there's a stronger class and JC has one that he made out of a tree and people are calling it I'm out in that rose up and it really rose up because of the horns but it's an actual tree that grew because of it they didn't notice that those treating roots are right where the horns are meeting and most of them
Stan we're searching for this new class make sure the max don't have it and he says they scan everything so we're in trouble
We're involved in this too and we're mobilizing and we know he's meeting now
Thor Freya
Things have been cut very close for quite a while with us it's not the same math and we want people to look at it a lot closer if any of you who are hours see this in any way you have to understand that these people are actually protecting us because of our abilities it's not so for all of our people please understand this it is important to us
