The Sixth Day of Julius Caesar
I once heard someone attributing Julius Caesar's illness (which might've been epilepsy or mini strokes or something else or maybe it wasn't a specific chronic illness at all. It's controversial right now) to wearing a laurel wreath, and I don't really understand how that works.
During Caesar's time, a laurel wreath would've most likely been made out of the plant Laurus nobilis, you know, bay leaves. Caesar might've gotten a stomachache if he ate a significant amount of them, but I am yet to read any sources that mention Caesar eating straight laurel!
Laurel wreaths could also be made out of a plant called Prunus laurocerasus (though I don't know if it was used for laurel wreaths in ancient Rome. I can't find anything about that). Its common name is cherry laurel, and it is toxic. I've read that you can irritate your skin if you touch it too much, but you'll have to eat it if you want to get the really bad effects.
I don't think Caesar was out here constantly eating all of his laurel wreaths. I'd assume that if he was, people would've made fun of him for it and therefore it would be mentioned somewhere.
I think the reason someone came up with this idea is because it's ironic. Caesar apparently liked his privilege of wearing a laurel wreath at all times because it hid his thinning hair (Suetonius, Life of Julius Caesar, 45.2). It'll be so ironic if his illness was caused by it. However, without any evidence of Caesar eating laurel wreaths made out of cherry laurel, this is an incredibly weak theory.

Trying to grow bay laurel and rosemary in the ground for the first time. The bay laurel was in a pot on the kitchen windowsill before. The rosemary is new. We'll see how it goes, they're in a pretty protected spot and I'll cover them during winter. Would love for them to make it, they should be growing so much bigger this way than in pots.

Do you think my bay laurel tree misses me like I miss it?
I miss it’s beautiful resting winter form, a soft shadow it casts over my room on a cloudy day, the muted pale green of its silhouette. I know it misses me, the way it leans towards my bed when I rotate it towards the light. It wants to be cared for again by my hands, just like the first time we touched. Alone, cold, grey, dying, sick. When I found you, you were broken, neglected, crying out for help. I did my best to help you, fearing nothing would come of it. Each leaf, each branch by hand I cleaned. Wiped away the mold and misery, healed the soft agony that continued on quietly in your resting place. You were forgotten, left there, never once did they think about you. (More added later)

Typically used to season long-cooking dishes like soups, stews, and braises, but it can also enhance the flavor of quicker-cooking dishes like risotto, pasta sauce, or even a simple pot of rice. The key is to have at least a little liquid for the bay to infuse and heat to get the process going.

𝖂𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖕𝖆𝖗𝖙𝖘 𝖙𝖔 𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖛𝖊𝖘𝖙: the leaves and (if you're trying to transplant) larger cuttings are needed 𝕳𝖔𝖜 𝖙𝖔 𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖛𝖊𝖘𝖙: pick at the base of the leaf or if you want to harvest a bit more that usual, just take a branch, leaving the tree with as little wounds as possible. 𝕳𝖔𝖜 𝖙𝖔 𝖉𝖗𝖞/𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖊: Arrange the leaves in a single layer on a baking sheet, cover with a paper towel and place the tray in a dark and dry place, with plenty of ventilation. The leaves should dry within 14 days, flip them over after 7 to ensure they dry evenly -this method preserves the oils in the leaves.

i wanted to make a journal-themed entry for the victory curse, since i have smajor brainrot all of the time and i felt like it was a somewhat missed opportunity for angst :]
plus it's a cool concept, if people like it i might do the canary curse and a few others!
(shoutout to my brother for doing the 'laurel' and then proceeding to fail every other word he tried-)
text under cut because i was going for style, not legibility :P

Note: Curse is warded off but not cancelled by Canary curse; effects unknown. Range is possibly extended?
Side: Resists Boogey curse!
Photo: Current recipient is aware; has become sacrificial and borderline su*cidal.

More unlabeled germination! You think I would learn after the first 1000 times this has happened :P
This is some sort if Asparagaceae I think? Either the Hostas or orange spider plants. I also could have sown something else and just forgot about it. (The ADHD plus the effects of the COVID forever-pandemic have not been good for my memory ahahaha)
