20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn’t matter?

Henry

Finesse

Since we haven't seen Finesse a lot, and when we've seen her, it has (at least mostly) been in connection to the Space Brothers, who might be her friend in canon is up for debate. But I think someone like Fragil might be the kind of a person, who'd be an ideal friend to her. Because Finesse doesn't strike me as a particularly weak person. As in, sure, she's sick and due to it she can't just go outside and walk around or take trips, but when we're talking about the strength of a person, there's so much more to be taken into consideration that just physical strength. And similarly, Fragil isn't a weak person either.

But as Fragil is a knight, I imagine that she'd have all kinds of stories that she could tell to Finesse, who is more or less confined into her home, and who can only experience such adventures or places through books and stories. They'd both have noble upbringing, and would understand that aspect of each other's lives, and would so be able to engage in some idle gossip (which everyone does).

And, they're both, or they seem like, gentle people. Which I think would allow them to find a common tune even better

Langris

Langris is a bit difficult for me, because he seems like a "lone wolf" most of the time. So I think that someone like that would perhaps suit him the best. Or then someone who's the complete opposite in most traits, but Langris likes because they understand him well. Or something else that they have in common. Overall I believe that people need to have something in common, interests, personality traits, or alike, in order for them to be friends, not just aquiantances.

But as I try to think of every character that has the lone wolf -thing going on, I can only see it going into a "two alley cats fighting" -type of a scenario. So maybe someone who's a bit older, and has seen things, who could spare some advice to Langris from time to time?

Hmm... This is harder than I thought. Because Vanessa would be more of a big sister figure than a friend, and Zora.... Zora wouldn't spare words around him, which would most likely tick Langris off.

Y'know what? After a lot of character development from both parties, Solid might be able to connect with Langris. This is one of those things that one might need to write out, for it to be understandable, but both of them have shown willingness to change and be kinder towards their siblings, as well as own up to their mistakes. Bot have suffered because of their parents (though for Solid it's more Papa Silva and the loss of Acier, than being lead onto a certain path by both parents like with Langris). They both seem like, deep down, insecure people, who don't know what to do with themselves. And I think that if they sat down, and got to talking, like really talking, they might hit it off.

But as said, it's probably one of those things that would be needed to see in writing for it to make sense.

top 5 diviners characters!

Sorry I took a while with this anon I just wanted to write out my thoughts properly since I don’t get to talk about my Diviners bbs often :). #1-2 and #4-5 are basically tied in terms of my feelings for them so I just differentiated rank based on how satisfied I was with their arcs/overall stories especially based on my reread last winter break because reading them back to back rather than as they were being published threw some of that into relief for me.

Theta Knight — I Adore this girl, have since day one and on reread especially she has my favorite arc of any of these characters, I love how her learning to accept her powers works in tandem to her de-learning the feelings of guilt she has from her abusive childhood and marriage. She also has such cool powers not just the fire but I also love that she’s the diviner who is given the title of Witch specifically in BTDBY in a way the others don’t, and how she ends up kind of claiming it. She’s also so deeply loving as a person yet at the same time unwilling to put up with bs, very stubborn frank and down to earth about the things that matter which makes her dynamics with others great to read about especially this makes her friendship with Evie Really fun because I love Evie but she does need that type of tough-love-mixed-with-support from someone. I of course love her friendship with Henry they’re very Margo-and-Eliot coded bi girl (I mean I know that’s not technically canon for Theta but I’m convinced) gay man found family friendship <3 and her relationship with Memphis is lovely very few of those love-at-first-sight-instant-connection ships work for me but they’re one of the exceptions and the way the maturity and growth of their relationship develops over the course of the books is really something. 

Ling Chan — girl who is me. Excellent INTP representation for once and she’s brown and wlw too I stay winning :). Ling is such an important character to me personally I really relate to the way she thinks, her being very logical and skeptical by nature but also finding beauty in tradition and the theme of being caught between worlds in different senses. I also love her powers I find dream powers fascinating and imo this verse handles them the best in terms of explaining them and keeping them interesting  (and I say this as someone who’s favorite series is the raven cycle lol). She has such great dynamics with other chars I loved her toxic romantic friendship in the dream world with Wei-Mei and her friendship with Henry and Memphis and Theta I have mixed at best feelings about Jericho but he’s by far the most entertaining to me in his dynamic with her in the last book, and her clashing with Evie was handled pretty well and I liked her arc around internalized misogyny but I do think she got very little to do in the last book and she peaked in the middle books, which is why she’s slightly bellow Theta. She’s so special to me though. 

Evie O’Neill — she’s just an excellent protagonist so three dimensional and interesting while also being very charming and fun, and the right amount of frustrating at times but you still love her. She’s ‘swell :).I also was pleasantly surprised by some of the notes on mental health and grief that got touched on in her storyline. 

Memphis Campbell — the Diviners men rank pretty close for me but like with Theta the fact I was most satisfied with his arc overall solidifies his ranking. King of Crows is my least favorite of the four books (I’m a huge believer that middle book syndrome is fake and those are often the best/most interesting books in especially characters driven series and that’s true here) although I still have love for it but the full circle of his poems as the voice of tomorrow was top tier and I loved the growth in his confidence and his relationship with Isaiah. 

Henry Dubois — he’s only last because he got precious little to do in books that weren’t Lair of Dreams which is where he shone, but I love him his friendships with Theta and Ling are honestly my favorite dynamics in the group And I just, have a real soft spot for the guy similar to how I feel about Eliot from the magicians. 

honorable mention to Sam Lloyd who I also am v affectionate towards! Funnily enough I did not like him much my first time reading book 1 but I had a quick turn around on him and Samevie in lair of dreams (I. Love their fake dating plot in that book it’s the best ever). So yeah, he’s a good.

I have no clue what the actual lore of the anime is, but I imagine Noor being like a healer or doctor who stays with her patients throughout the night looking after them. Ava is probably captain of the guard to one of the lords, and she will whisk away the other knights. Yusuf seems like an advisor who gives kinda bad advice but it’s always with the best intentions so the lord he works for keeps him around bc he’s a good friend.

Everything in Black Clover that Makes Tabata a Coward.

Since it is the new year and hellfuck 404 year is over, it's time I spice things up a bit

By listing my thoughts and meta about shit that made me go "hold up"

FEATURING: Yuno's status as a noble suddenly overshadowing 17 years of being a commoner, the fact that Black Bulls is actually 80% nobility/fallen nobility, Vermillion Clan being the only valid nobility in the whole SERIES, Julius being a weakass centrist and, my favorite, how us knowing about the inner workings of only the Black Bulls and Golden Dawn is making the rest of the squads seem unimportant, despite literally making up 80% of all its power.

NUMBER 1: Yuno suddenly being revealed a prince right in the moment of him finally getting respected by GD is counterproductive.

Yuno's character was most felt upon as someone with no family, no connections and no name having massive amounts of mana. He was a show that it doesn't take a noble to be powerful.

But him suddenly being revealed as Prince of Spade is directly reducing that image as most of the people who do know (white man Nozel, Ralph, Spade resistance) are suddenly "oh but ofcourse" and going Lord Yuno this, Lord Yuno that. This, on its own, is undermining Yuno's ENTIRE LIFE as an orphan on the outskirts of a classist country and him working through missions upon missions to literally pulling a prison movie trope to get respected. Yuno should be frustrated by this and him simply being okay with it does not stand.

Yuno's character arc should come to a climax of him REJECTING the Spade throne right and essentially wanting to be a commoner because of not only his beliefs but also his dream.

NUMBER 2: The Black Bulls have an obnoxious amount of fallen nobles.

Case and point:

Nobles: Henry (Legolant) , Noelle (Silva) , Vanessa (daughter of the witch queen, essentially Witch Forest Princess), Secre (was from a noble family but because of her magic she became a servant)

Fallen Nobles/Bastard Nobles: Luck (theorised to be bastard son of Riseley family), Grey (family was shown to be well budgeted, was forced into servitude for reasons(?)), Gauche (family killed, fallen house), Nacht (fallen noble house), Finral (Vaude house legitimate child, possibly disowned),

Commonfolk: Asta, Zora, Magna, Yami, Gordon, Charmy (debatable).

This isn't to say that any of them, depending on their relationship with said noble houses, belong to nobility but the fact that they were part of it can't be overlooked. Its in the past, they're not connected to it anymore but we must accept the concept of it nonetheless.

There is an OBNOXIOUS Amount of fallen nobility in the ranks. For a squad regarded as "full of the most undesirable people" there's an awful lot of bastards and nobles there. This could be a show that Clover Kingdom refuses to acknowledge bastard nobles/ children of nobles and commoners as anything other than nuisances (very classicist of you, CK), but the fact that many of these characters are connected to such is displeasing, especially since the key thes of the series is "hard work will give you power you've earned" and not "work hard until you find out you're part of some long dead bloodline and let Plot Armor do the rest".

Its also displeasing because, outside of Yami and Asta, very few of the commonfolk of the BBs have had their moments and, considering how most of them are fan favorites, it feels like a message falling flat on the hard work/no bloodline necessary part.

Its not so much nepotism so much as it makes it seem like there are more nobility than commoner characters in the magic knights which *vague disgusted notion* doesn't really seem right.

NUMBER 3: VERMILLIONS

GOD, I have wanted to go off SO HARD about this.

The Vermillion noble house is presented as one of the more accepting and progressive houses but... the thing is that they're the ONLY house we've seen in detail that DOES NOT SUCK ASS.

Which might be a call to how most of nobility are, in fact, outdated and need to be disbanded but, you know, it would be a lot more helpful if the Vermillions weren't the literal black sheep of this.

Almost every noble house in Clover Kingdom is full of classist assholes, Heart Kingdom doesn't even HAVE a royal family, much less nobility, and the Queen is chosen by Undine, Diamond Kingdom nobility has clearly been sponsoring the whole child abduction and experimentation skit, likely for the sake of themselves not having to go to the battle field. Spade Kingdom is a MESS because we know Zogratis was a noble house but that's the only noble house in Spade that we know of. It's likely that the Dark Triad killed every single mage that went against them or even just tried to protect the citizens.

The Vermillions are literally Alone in this and that does not help At All. It feels like an almost defining trait at this point and it doesn't help that it comes off as "Every person is different and has different outlooks in life but Every Noble/Royal is a Shithead except for Flaming Red Lion Family Who Are Very Battle Oriented". Its not in bad taste but it certainly isn't in good taste either.

NUMBER 4: Julius

Julius is, while well meaning with his intentions to try and make it easier for commonfolk to gain more influence and independence, failing at trying to keep it that way.

You can tell he's trying but at the same time he's also trying to appeal to the noble class that commoners are important. This would be much more successful if Julius realised that the nobility of CK actively don't want to do anything with the commonfolk. He's either in denial (probably from being nobility himself), thinking he needs to try harder (you can't make a horse drink if it doesn't want to, Julius) or he doesn't want to step on their toes on the matter (which does not make any sense here, it would be extremely counter to his entire idea of it). Maybe it's Julius trying to bring commonfolk and nobility together under one umbrella of unity but he doesn't get that to be tolerant, you need to call out and disprove intolerance.

He's not a bad person, he's charming and well meaning but he's lacking true resolve in his goal as a character. If anything, the best way to describe it is that he’s a Scholar, not a Ruler. Most of the forms of support he's given as a wizard king have been moderate. It would make sense if, pre-elf reincarnation arc, we would have seen that nobles are pressuring him to stop trying to appeal to the masses or threatening to cut resources if he tries to push through some reform. But we haven't seen that yet (or I'm forgetting some super important tidpiece of dialogue) and frankly that's not a good case for Julius not acting as actively as he could. Post-elf reincarnation gave It's reason for Julius no longer being able to move as drastically but before that? None whatsoever.

NUMBER 5: The rest for the Magic Knight Squad.

I want to say this is like the case for Bleach and the divisions of soul reapers but at least we had some form of idea as to what happened in them through filler and canon material.

Considering that the story mostly focuses on the Black Bulls and Golden Dawn, we have legitimately no idea how the other squads interact among themselves/special properties of each squad, much less if they even function under the same basis. We've only had an insight into how the Blue Roses treat themselves, their team members and their captain (quite amiably, they have both nobility and commonfolk and support their captain, very nice). There's also the Purple Orcas but I'm assuming ever since their vice captain took over as complete captain, there have been reforms and changes but we don't know what was changed, how it was changed and what even happened in the squad beforehand.

We barely have any idea on what goes on in the other squads and it's very disappointing as the Black Bulls and the Golden Dawn are arguably the two smallest squads of the NINE. Which means we're losing insight on how at least 70% of the rest of the military behaves.

I get that they're not defined by Canon and only act as extra lore and worldbuilding for the militia but damn is it frustrating.

Notable Mentions:

1) The Silva Clan Cycle of Abuse and how Fucking Ass Backwards it was to pin the Blame on Megicula, only for it to NOT end up Megicula's fault because they killed Acier, but because Nozel and Silva Patriarch apparently think that gaslighting/withholding important information to an entire family about someone's death is "tough love"

2) Julius handling the whole Purple Orca affair. The entire Purple Orcas have been pulling illegal shit under the table for YEARS. My mans, do something.

3) The fact that the truth about the elf genocide was not only rewritten to fit the narrative but also once the truth came out they didn't bother to fix it. Like- miss Tabata, explain.

4) The Witch Queen as a whole. We're told she's ancient and powerful and that she knew her earring was a magic stone but weren't given any insight.

5) Magic Stones. How did they come about and why is NOBODY in possession of at least one braincells on the matter that since you can amplify your magic using a stone (like Secre did), maybe you should utilise that shit??? Huh???? Maybe we can see Yuno use it but WHY did you not give at least one to each captain for the raid, honey, they could USE SOME BACKUP POWER!!!

Why do the bonnie models dislike eachother in your Au? And follow up question, do other animatronics have this sort of established relationship with other models of themselves?

Bonnie models are heavily, HEAVILY influenced by actual rabbits. Rabbits are strange, fourth dimension little shits one moment and yet loyal and sweet-natured the next. They can hold grudges like a sponge holds water. I used to have a rabbit named Hiccup who would pee on my bed to ‘mix our scents’ and would revenge chew on a certain piece of furniture if I corrected him or WORSE: removed my sheets to wash them. Yet he knew that when he groomed me he could not nibble my ‘fur’ and so he would lick me, he also liked to make my bed every morning, patting it down so it was smoother, whereas most bunnies would make little tunnels and dig as is their instinct--not Hiccup, apparently, because he had watched me make my bed plenty of times. He was sassy, smart, shitty, and very loyal. You can see where the Bonnie model attitude came from in the knight guard au, which helped me grieve Hiccup’s loss when he died in 2018. Let’s move on to your question though:

Unfortunately, because the ‘first’ Bonnie model (Springbonnie/Springtrap) ended up being used as the killer’s suit, all Bonnie models thereafter (esp our purple boi) are very antagonistic because they feel let down and betrayed. Why didn’t Springtrap fight harder? Why did those kids have to die? How many lives would have been saved if Scraptrap had gone against his Suit more? Mike and Gold and the Marionette and the Crying Child argue sometimes, so what could be avoided? It’s sort of a comment on victim blaming and a discussion on why abusive relationships tend to go farther than they should and why others have a hard time understanding a dynamic. It is not healthy, Afton/Springtrap DO NOT have a healthy relationship and I do not condone their actions/Afton’s treatment of Springtrap.

It is not something Bonnie should do either, but he is hurting from their history and so he takes it out on the two he deems are the worst. He refuses to separate the two because his anger is clouding his better judgement. Bonnie is also programmed to mirror teenage behavior and relate with them, and he has also never lost his Freddy model, and one of the main themes for Last Shift (though it’s been mentioned before) is that “You can’t have a Bonnie without a Freddy!” The resulting combination of a teenagers cognitive response PLUS the reliance on a Freddy model PLUS the young girl that haunted Bonnie for years until Mike came around in Devil’s Spine means that Bonnie the bunny has made incorrect conclusions and has colored his relationship with Springtrap and other Bonnie models by association. (This is also not healthy, obv.)

In his mind, Springtrap is no better than William Afton. We have seen in a few flashbacks and sometimes from Mike’s words, that Springtrap is NOT very emotive and tends to lock down emotions to get through what he can--years of living with cruel, manipulative Afton has caused this. But the original Bonnie model is not a ‘villain’ in the sense that Afton is for you and I. Bonnie does not know what we know and until/if he learns more, he will continue to dislike Springtrap in the way that some siblings hate other siblings when they don’t protect them from past parental abuse. This hurt and past wounds are what mostly causes the problems among Bonnie models. Toy Bon was ‘programmed down cognitively’ and thus is not as mentally sound as what Bonnie is used to. To Bonnie, Toy Bon is annoying nuisance who won’t leave him alone. (Not unlike a teenager with a MUCH younger sibling.) For Mike, who knows he can’t force Bonnie to like Springtrap, and he can’t reprogram Toy Bon (Blue), he deems it better to just keep Bonnie models separate if possible. It can be hard to over come your own programming, and he also hasn’t had the chance, of course, to sit Bonnie and Springtrap down and make them work through things. Springtrap could not walk between Ghost Strings and Finding Freddy, and it is implied a few times in FF that any attempts to get the two to talk ended....poorly. Bonnie models are portrayed as jealous, or at the very least insecure which causes jealous responses. Nightmare Bonnie and Bonnie somewhat fixed this, during Ghost Strings when they both wanted to have Danny Fitzgerald’s attention but didn’t want to share.

Other model relationships:

Freddy models: Despite Freddy being the most possessive/protective over Mike, and despite his stubbornness on certain things, Freddy is mature enough to separate issues or at the very least, be civil. He has no problem with Fredbear/Golden Freddy--the old bear is, in Freddy’s mind, his only ‘boss’ and because Gold is essentially Mike, Freddy likes the ghostly fellow just fine. He has very little patience for Toy Fred, (Ted) and sees his love of video games as an immature trait when there are chores to be done first, but he doesn’t really care that much. He is not sure about Lefty, but is willing to allow the bear to be on stage if it will make Henry (and Mike) happy. He, as well as his band members, do not know about the Rockstars yet.

Chica models: Chica is liked by everyone, and this seems to make her like her sisters better. Toy Chica (Chi-chi) is very bubbly and despite her fear of the kitchens, (a fire alarm went off one time in the 80′s and scared her and Blue very bad, during Jeremy’s tenure.) she is willing to defer to her first model and serve food, so long as she doesn’t have to work in the kitchen. Nightmare Chica is the only model of the Chicas that doesn’t get along with anyone--but, c’mon. She’s a Nightmare. She likes Nightmare Bonnie and her Chompy-Cake, and that’s it.

Foxy models: Another mature and varied line that get along well. Foxy and Mangle are very close, and Foxy is very fond of his ‘first mate’ despite the fact Mike could never find coding that related the two. Foxy is Mangle’s security blanket, and she is the only Toy models aside from BB that the original four accepted into their ring/restaurant with little hesitation. (At some point, she gave Mike the scars he now carries, but she made up for her mistake by protecting Mike during Finding Freddy.) Nightmare Foxy, is has been established to be Alexander Afton, the older brother to the Crying Child/Circus Baby and younger brother to Michael Afton. He gets along well with his model copies, hence why he choose to be another Foxy even after he left the original one his father...stuffed him into. 

Sorry this got rambly! I love the FNAF series, and I want my knight guard au always be horror. But I also want it to be found family and working through trauma etc, to keep it ‘realistic’ as I’d like. (Haunted animatronics and ghostly bears aside!)

BDRP 2021 Resolutions

Write your RPer Resolutions for 2018! (What are some goals for yourself as a writer? Improve descriptions? Plot with more members? Etc.)

A silly goal but I would like another female character lol

More one-shots! I always have these ideas for them but because I let them grow too large in my brain or I feel like I need to turn them into a proper ‘short story’ I intimidate myself out of doing them and then let the opportunity to slide. So this year I hope to fix that and once again be more chillax with myself. (Though here is a shoutout to me bc I published some one-shots last year I was happy about, like Nemo’s “Breath,” Berlioz’s parentage reveal, and my John Darling stuff!) 

Do One Task Every Month. Another small but very doable goal 

Learn how to say no: ahaha this seems a weird thing to put here but its actually about events and i feel this is a safe space to admit that i love love events but they like, truly take a toll on my arthritic hands which means i really can only do two characters probably. But i feel bad only rping with just two ppl etc esp if other people hit me up, or if there are other people i WANT to rp with, so i end up not doing it at all because i get overwhelmed and feel like no one will believe me about my shitty hands (which is of course silly but man chronic illness anxiety am i right). Sooooo i need to find a better way to enjoy events and manage my own health! 

Finish some of the fairy lore stuff i got in the works lol

Berlioz: Find His Daddy. Also groove room stuff. 

Hades: Pokevolve his emotional intelligence! Also would like to do more Board things with him actually, esp bc he will have to run for office so: focus on his political aspirations

Merida: Integrate into society! She is doing it more but I really hope her friendships with the knights will let her fully embrace herself again. ALSO ALSO alpha Merida! 

Charlie: Greater control over his magic and more confidence in himself. We gettin there bb

Ashleigh: Entangle her further with the knights/Henry and eventually reveal she’s a mara bc i would like that for Henry it will be horrifying for him

Nemo: embrace dance as a career option and therefore overcome the systematic factors that have convinced u that u cant! YOU CAN 

Jun: Date. (Horrifying for him. Not his goal.) Also just more hijinks, I love love hijinks, would love business-related hijinks. 

Olaf: Get more involved on campus!! More uni plots for him would be great esp when it comes to figuring out if he’ll stay on campus after this year (and also like how this affects his friendship with Sindri) 

Atta: QUEEN STUFF. This is first on my list so we’re gonna make you happen. Blow up Atta’s life, really make her deal with that imposter syndrome. Love it. 

Pip: Put the mortifying fear of being known into Pip. aka open up about his mum a bit with like, someone. Or just admit that the people he says are his enemies are actually his friends.

Write at least one resolution IN CHARACTER for your characters. What do THEY want to accomplish or change in the New Year?

Note that I love seeing which characters echo my goals and which ones don’t at all. It’s just fun and neat. Probably says something about each one’s emotional self-awareness. (Mostly pointing out how Hades is extremely self-aware i love that for him)

Berlioz: Literally nothing. Sorry he just thinks resolutions are stupid and life is pointless (he is in a state). 

Hades: Prepare for his election next year, raise his children well, help Belle in her recovery 

Merida: Assist King Arthur. Become a good alpha to Alice specifically (not u lou i mean like she is but she’s like that bitch doesnt need me) 

Charlie: Reup his certs! Figure out a specialty! 

Ashleigh: Revenge against Romeo, revenge against John Darling + company for destroying her tree 

Nemo: Get an apprenticeship this year. Work on Hangul. Lose seven stone. Work on wing sprints. Be better son. Be more responsible and help Appa. Get job again? ...Quit dance? 

Jun: something nerdy about increasing the overall revenue or something of the market i dont know im not a business person. Also something nerdy about Animal Crossing, maybe he wants to add a new room to his house. Jun’s goals have nothing to do with himself personally. 

Olaf: Get involved in uni! Learn more about his talent and practice it intentionally, including how to control it better so he is not overwhelmed in situations like the nightmare fog. 

Atta: Help Dot with her apprenticeship!! Learn more stuff about clumsy culture. Pass her petition about water fountains. 

Pip: Grow SSIC followers by 100+; grow Spill engagement by 20%; arrange guest speakers for SSIC and maybe help SSIC write a petition together?; get a solo for the spring concert; get a lead role in the summer musical; read 50 books in a year; drink less coffee (he will fail this last one)

Ferb. Technically I did interact with him but it was just ONE gif chat when he first got here and I would like to do more!! I think he’s great, i love all of Sid’s characters! 

Bianca: HOW HAVE I NOT RPED WITH BIANCA! I don’t know but I want to. Maybe Merida and Bianca would be interesting bc of RAS things! (Also I have interacted with Kristoff but I want to do stuff with Kristoff and trolls please message me bee if u want to do troll things...i love. them.) 

Rita: In a similar vein, I think Rita/Ber or Rita/Pip might be interesting. Pip totally looks up to Rita and sees her as a role model so i dunno that could be cool. 

Rose: Whitman: Kit, we need to have Rose and Merida interact. Fighty ladies. I am sure with the knights this can happen! 

Pacifica: Hello Lins, Pacifica and Ashleigh should be Best Friends Of Course. I could also maybe see Pacifica and Jun if Pacifica wants to do some kind of business philanthropy for her image etc. Or Olaf and Pacifica! Sounds like a wild time, that. 

Tod: Olaf/Tod would probably be very fun, I love Pixie friendships! Also maybe Ber bc i think Ber knows Tod from way back when maybe? 

Edward: Z PLEASE. PLEASE. Pip and Edward bc they are from the same movie and no other reason!! But I will also throw literally anyone at him.

Why hello there Mr. Yamada. Lets take a look at this character.

Well we know he’s an adult from the way he wears his hair and also mustache, so no sort of school au unless it’s the university sort. 

Now lets look at his hearing aid. We can infer this Hizashi has difficulty hearing, but we can do more than that. Let’s look at all the Hizashis with hearing aids shall we. 

Hmm what a random group of hizashis. What could be the link???

Every one of these Hizashis is human and lives in a era where hearing aids would be easy to attain (Except for the mad hatter and I cant even begin to place where he fits into reality) Instead lets look at the hizashis that DONT have hearing aids.

Alright, you know what I see, each of these Hizashis is either not human, or exists in a universe with magic where the hearing could have been solved with magic, also judging by the way most of the non-human Hizashis are dressed we can assume they come from earlier in history than the 1900s probably between the 16 and 18 hundreds, though a couple of AUs could be pegged much further back in the dark ages.   (Or maybe witch au is set in the past, we don't have a firm reference point for it) 

BUT WAIT! I hear you object. What about royalty Hizashi. Well royalty Hizashi exists in a time frame as a prince. And while there are princes today, they’re few and far between and most wouldn't live in a place/era where they would have responsibilities as they are mostly figureheads. Thusly he lives in an era before they were invented. 

This means our stranger up there is an adult, in an era around the timeframe of the cannon universe or marginally before or after it and we can also assume, he’s a human.

Season 7 Characters

I am a good bit of the way through season 7 now, so I thought I’d share my thoughts on the characters. Overall, there’s no character I outwardly dislike (except Gothel but I’m meant to dislike her), but I only really like two characters, Drizella and Robin. As in, these are the only two characters who engage me on an emotional level. Everyone else is just sort of..... there. I am leaving out Rumple, Regina and Zelena because I’m lazy as fuck I have made my opinions known about them already and nothing as really changed. I am also not doing Naveen/Drew or Anastasia because as much as I like them.... they barely qualify for characters.

Anyway, if that didn’t put you of, then let’s-a go!

Drizella Tremaine/Ivy Belfrey- Oh my precious, crazy Drizella, you stole my heart in episode 6 (Wake Up Call) and have kept it. I think the main reason she is so sympathetic is because she has a relatable backstory-I’m sure a good number of people in the audience can relate to the frustration of being the second favourite child and living in the shadow of an older sibling. And Adelaide plays her so amazingly, small upset, dejected looks at her mother’s indifference to her in Hyperion Heights so that you can’t help but be on her side, even when I learn she is evil I still sort of rooted for her to make her mother regret what she did. Even after she drugs Ana, her tearful “I don’t want to die” made my heart ache for her. Wrong decision, completely wrong decision, but I can so, so get where she is coming from with it. I like how her arc centered on family and making amends with her sister. And then her redemption came and sent such a compelling character to hell with “well you ended up not hurting your sister for your own gain so good for you, don’t worry about us,your victims,  just go live your life.” Oh Drizzy, I wish I could have given you the redemption you so richly deserved. I also would have liked less focus on Henry, because their relationship felt sort of random. And more exploration of her relationship with Ella.

Robin Hood-Mills/Margot- I’m so happy with how they used Robin. I find her such an interesting blend of the LWM and the Enchanted Forest, like watching her use the word “jerkwad” to a troll hunting mob in the Enchanted Forest. And I find her to be the most realistic character; her struggle with finding herself and her identity, the contrast between the “popular girl” she was in high school which just gave her a superficial happiness, and then finding her true calling as Robin Hood, doing something worthwhile, was so nice to watch. I cheered when she picked up that bow! And same in Hyperion Heights, Margot’s conflict with her mother is something very realistic, they never communicated enough. I also like her sense of humour a lot. And how she stands up for her beliefs and fights for the little guy-or girl, Alice, in her case-like a real Robin Hood. However, I don’t like how most of her main development took place in flashbacks, an issue I have with most characters. And I do find her present day character to be a bit... two dimensional. But hey, I have more episodes to go, so I could be wrong. I’d like to see more of her as a character, but from what I have seen I feel like she mainly exists as Alice’s love interest.

After this I think my reviews/analysis/whatever we’re calling this post are going to be less in-depth because Drizzy and Robin are the only two I really care for.

Rapunzel Tremaine/Victoria Belfrey- Well damn if season 7 did one thing, it was make a sympathetic villain with Victoria. I did find her a bit “knock off Evil Queen” until her backstory was revealed in 7x09. The whole theme of that episode was Punzy’s love for her family and even as a villain she is still doing everything because she loves Ana. My favourite kind of villains always have a sort of code or justification that makes them think they’re in the right. In a way, she reminds me of s1 Rumple, who kept his love for his son, but was still corrupted and evil with it. A moment for her that sticks out a lot is when Gothel has kidnapped and bound her and yet her concern is still for Ana, the first thing she does when she sees her is ask her if she is okay. That right there is some complex characterisation; she’s evil but with a tiny nugget of goodness left inside her. Now her redemption is where she falls down; she starts to realise that she should have focussed more on Drizella and less on the deceased Ana, which was good, and she saved Drizzy at the cost of her own life, but like I said before, Drizella was one out of many victims who never got any closure, most importantly Ella.

Lucy Mills- I do think Lucy is a lot like her father and that’s why I like her so much; her belief, her drive, and her sass. She isn’t really the most complex character there is, btu she’s just so loveable. She sees the best in everyone, even Tremaine (even if I sideeyed that part because come on bb). I don’t know what else to say about her; I can’t really say I love her development because imo, there is not much development to love, but who doesn’t love a funny, heart of gold munchkin running around believing in people all the time?

Tiana/Sabine-Well she’s... a good person. I like her development in becoming “her own knight in shining armour”. But like..... That’s sort of all their is to her. I do like her, she’s cute, her relationship with Naveen is adorable. She’ confident and strong but.... there isn’t a whole load of depth to her. Or maybe there is and I just forgot. I would say “I can’t believe ouat messed up the Princess and the Frog” but... it’s OUAT. She seems to fulfil the role of “supportive best friend” more than she does her own character arc.

Ella Mills/Jacinda-Okay for one thing-Dania does not deserve the hate she gets. She is a fine actress. Leave her alone demons. That said, she’s kind of like Tiana for me. Yeah she’s a good person but there’s not much depth to her. I feel like her lack of a backstory is bad for her because it makes it hard to sympathise with her. Sure we know she had a hard life but we don’t see it. I like her more in HH funnily enough, despite overall preferring the EF flashbacks. Watching her fight for Lucy is pretty cool to watch. The narrative fucks her over a lot, especially when t comes to Tremaine and how she did not once factor into her redemption arc despite being hurt severely by her.

Wish Hook/Detective Rogers- Sigh. Like Ella and Tiana, he’s a good person who deserves a happy ending, but that’s really all there is. He gets a little bit of complexity in 7x13 and 7x16 (I think), which is nice. They did skip over his redemption arc, which works for story purposes, but part of what I loved about Killian was his redemption arc. My favourite moments of his were him showing how much he had changed so WHook doesn’t fit that for me. I sort of see him as fundamentally the original character but less-less flawed, less self loathing, less redemption arc (that’s not grammatically correct but let’s move on). They also seem to have taken away the cheeky and sarcastic humour, which may make him more appealing to some people but I miss it. Objectively he’s pretty unproblematic, which I think in a way makes him boring, but undeserving of all the hate the CS fandom throws his way. He also gets manipulated and used a lot, which does make me feel sympathy for him. His scenes with Alice, young Alice in particular, are cute. And I do like that he stopped drinking. He’s a good man who deserves happiness probably more than anyone else, but kind of a watered down version of OG Killian. Don’t get me wrong, I tried really hard to love him but... I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Who knows, maybe at the end of the day, I did jsut see Killian as a prop for Emma, which is why I feel little attachment to a version that isn’t with her.

Henry Mills Swan- Henry is one of my favourite original show characters, so what drew me to this season was a grown up Henry. I am glad that despite being an adult, we still have that cute nerdy wide eyed dreamer of a kid. He does some things and I just think “that is so freaking Henry” like his fist pumping and Star Wars references and using his lunchbox as a weapon. And a lot of his child personality is still there, still an optimist who believes in people, but I feel like he’s matured a bit now. At the same time, he wants to be like the kind of heroes he read about and grew up with. He wants to give Ella a special ring like his grandparents had. I’ll admit there re bits where I don’t feel that he is Henry, but I think that’s because there is such a big jump between Gilmore!Henry and West!Henry.

Alice Jones/Tilly- I went in expecting Tilly to become my favourite, which is weird now because I am fairly neutral on her. I find it interesting the way she sometimes acts like an overgrown child because I think it is a way of showing how emotionally stunted she is, which is pretty neat. She is definitely very cute and makes an eccentric, bouncy kind of Alice, which is what I do think of when I think “Alice In Wonderland” (although my Alice knowledge is limited to the animated film and the Tim Burton one so I may not be very knowledgeable in that respect). I like her dynamic with Robin a lot. She isn’t really that well developed but she is fun to watch. I also wonder sometimes if her eccentricity and “strangeness” for a lack of better word is just her hiding how upset she is. I don’t really have anything else to say about her.

Gothel-To be honest, Gothel seems fairly one dimensional. There is very little to her. She wants to kill everyone because people killed her family. I feel like the writers have kept trying to make villains “bigger and badder” since s5 and then Gothel was just overkill. She has pretty much 0 redeeming qualities, which is cool, she’s the bad guy, but I don’t know, I think it just comes off as pretty shallow. Maybe a “she was always evil” story a la Cruella de Vil would have worked better? I will give it to them that she is very very creepy sometimes. 

Dr Facilier/Samdi-I love how on the one hand, he is so, so like his animated counterpart but with enough uniqueness to stand apart. Daniel plays him so amazingly, his movements are so fluid, he’s charming but there’s a danger to him. He is a slimy little bastard (kinda like a... frog. See what I did there?). He intrigues me but I don’t see much to him. But he does remind me of s1 Rumple with his deals and general tomfoolery. I’ll come back to this section ocne I have watched more of s7, but for now my general perception is that he is fun to watch but I don’t see much below the surface.
