BBRae Week 2018 - Day 2
Pet Names
Cyborg stared unblinking at the pair across the table. To his right, Robin and Starfire stared in much the same way, though Starfire’s silence was out of apparent and obvious joy. The objects of their attention were seemingly oblivious to the difficulty they were causing, too caught up in, well… canoodling.
Beast Boy and Raven were wrapped in each other’s arms, nuzzling each other’s necks and whispering in each other’s ears. Cyborg twitched.
“So you guys are sure you’re together?” he asked. Beast Boy looked up with a grin.
“Yup. She’s my little purple gumdrop, soft and sweet,” he sang. Raven giggled - GIGGLED!
“And he’s my Beastie-boo-bear.” Cyborg swore if he still had an entirely human gastric system, he would have thrown up. Indeed, Robin looked like his bile was rising.
“Friends, I am delighted you have discovered romance with each other,” Starfire cheered.
“Thank you, Starfire,” Raven said. “It’s amazing to think Beast Boy is my… Beast Bae.”
“Ugh.” Cyborg shuddered. “Not to be a downer but, that is definitely you, right? Not one of your emotion selves at the wheel?” he asked. For a moment, Raven’s blissful attitude vanished and she fixed Cyborg with a chilling glare, a glint of red in her eyes. “Okay, okay, it’s you.”
The next few days didn’t make their behaviour any less disturbing: nobody ever saw one without the other, there were always at least holding hands and the pet names - oh, the pet names - just got worse and worse.
“Ravencakes.”
“Beasty-weasty.”
“Birdy-girl.”
“Adora-Boy.”
They never seemed to repeat and so Cyborg could never get used to one. Finally, he was pushed too far when Starfire spoke to the happy couple, still congratulating them whenever she saw them. Beast Boy answered first.
“Thanks, Star. She’s my little Rae-Rae of sunshine,” he said.
“And he’s my big green teddy-weddy bearie-boo,” Raven added. Cyborg snapped, standing so quickly from his position on the couch the magazine in his lap smacked into the window.
“That’s it! I can’t take it! Are you guys kidding me? Are you guys gosh darn frickin’ hecking ding dong dang kidding me?!” he cried, voice cracking, Silence filled the room. Starfire watched Raven carefully, wary of her responding to Cyborg’s tantrum with one of her own. Cyborg watched Beast Boy - the boy had a temper all his own, especially when he was defending someone he was close to, and these days he seemed closer to Raven than anyone. However, to his surprise, Beast Boy doubled over in loud, reckless laughter.
“Is this an Earth custom I have missed?” Starfire asked. Cyborg subtly shook his head, as confused as she was, maybe even more so when Raven started to chuckle as well. Beast Boy tumbled over onto his side, still laughing but trying to speak.
“I… I told you… I told you Cyborg would go first!” he gasped. Raven, watching him with a knowing smile, nodded.
“You were right. I was sure Robin wouldn’t be able to leave it alone and would start asking questions,” she said. “You win. I lose.” Cyborg’s confusion evaporated in a red, angry cloud that descended in front of his eyes, at least that’s how it felt.
“This. Was. All. A. BET!!!???” he roared. Unconcerned, Beast Boy looked up at him from the floor.
“Yup. And I won!” he crowed, jerking a victorious thumb at himself.
“I don’t believe you guys!” Cyborg whined. “You faked all that just for a bet? I should’ve known you guys would never-”
“That part’s true,” Raven said, much more like her usual self.
“Uhh… what?” Cyborg said.
“The names and the PDAs, they were for the bet, but Beast Boy and I really are together,” Raven said. Cyborg eyed her sideways before a sly grin spread across his face.
“You aren’t fooling me again so easily, Rae-Rae,” he said, wagging his finger at her. At this, Raven rolled her eyes, knelt beside the still-prone Beast Boy, fisted her hands in the fabric of his uniform and pulled him to her, kissing him passionately yet easily enough to see it certainly wasn’t the first time they had done so.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve pushed my boundaries quite far enough for now and I’m ready for some me time,” Raven said. Beast Boy, still held by Raven’s hands, smiled cheerily at her.
“See ya later, Rae.” Raven smiled fondly and lay her hand on his cheek.
“Sooner, if I can help it, Garfield,” she said before letting him fall back to the floor and vanishing with a flourish of her black energy. Beast Boy chuckled on the floor.
“She’s something else, right?” he said, mostly to himself. Cyborg sat back on the couch, sulking.
“So what is it you get?” he asked.
“Huh?”
“What do you get for winning the bet?”
“Oh. Ummm I guess we forgot to decide on that sooooooo… we just did it for fun?”
“…”
“Cy?”
“I… need to go somewhere where you’re not,” Cyborg said, marching straight out the door to his car, planning on finding somewhere quiet he could scream for an hour or so. Eventually he would consider the prank an enviable success and, though he had to put up with a week of retaliation pranks, Beast Boy never doubted it had been worth the effort.
THE END

Silently Pining
The heady smell of sweat hung in the air, tainting Beast Boy’s senses. Everything in the gym reeked of it. During training hours was when the scent was at its peak, everyone’s unique scents mixing and mingling with the scent to create an almost overwhelming perfume that stuck in his nose and coated his tongue.
It was disgusting, when he thought about it. Which was why he focused hard on his breathing as he ran on the treadmill. In through his nose, out through his mouth. It reduced the scent to some extent, allowing him to at least avoid tasting it. Though Beast Boy wasn’t sure if that was much better.
Luckily, after a good twenty minutes, he got used to the strange scent cocktail. It was just one of the many quirks of being him, he supposed, and he turned his focus onto his mileage.
One mile down, two to go.
Beast Boy let his gaze meander about the gym. The setup was pretty typical for a small gym; a cushioned floor, a wall of mirrors, and a ton of workout equipment. Robin had spent a pretty penny setting this place up for them, and he made sure they all used it at least once a week. Gym days were pretty nice, actually; Beast Boy got to work off some steam.
He stared at the mirror. In the foreground was his reflection; a sweaty mess of a guy, wearing a pair of purple track shorts and a tank top. What a look.
Violet hair in the background caught his attention, and Beast Boy watched as Raven stretched on her yoga mat. The graceful arch of her back held his gaze, and he watched her move slowly from one position to the next with wide eyes. His skin grew tingly and warm, and Beast Boy knew he really shouldn’t be ogling her reflection in the mirror, but it was impossible to look away.
Those long, slender legs seemed even longer with those little black athletic shorts. Beast Boy swallowed. Why did Raven have to be so...stunning?
He knew he had it bad. He didn’t just like admiring her posterior in the gym, oh, no. Beast Boy found that he liked other things too. Like making her smile. Being in the same room with her. He found himself paying attention to little details; how she made her tea, what book she was reading, snacks she liked to enjoy. Her scent alone was enough to make him feel giddy. It was almost pathetic, really.
Even the other Titans seemed to know. He’d catch them sometimes, gazing at him with that damned knowing look.
Raven’s gaze caught his through the mirror, and Beast Boy gulped. Shit, shit, abort! he thought, but he was entranced. She arched a brow and seemed to consider him a moment, before smirking. Beast Boy slowed on his treadmill, dread coiling in his gut. He watched as Raven rose on her mat and slowly turned, before bending over in another pose. Only, those little athletic shorts rode up just enough for him to get a good view of her ass, and he came to an abrupt halt. The treadmill kept going, and Beast Boy went down with a yelp.
He sat up, blinking. Cyborg, Robin, and Starfire, all stared at him with baffled expressions, but Raven? Raven had a devilish smile on her beautiful lips, making Beast Boy feel hot all over.
Well, shit, he thought to himself. He was really in for it now.
E N D
This is pretty late and super short. :( Work killed me, so I had only a little time to do this one, and I’m dead on my feet. Hopefully it’s still enjoyable...

BBRae Week Day 7: I Never Asked To Be Like This
Raven sat in her signature armchair in the Titans Tower common room, staring blankly at the book hovering before her without truly seeing the words. Her chin rested in a palm as she hunched over listlessly, posture masking the torment of her mind, nearly overwhelmed with a torrent of thoughts and feelings that she struggled to push down, to quench. It almost made her long for a time that she wasn't bothered by things such as emotions, undaunted by sentiments and the like.
Almost.
But dwelling on her flaws of the past would get her nowhere, so she quickly cut off that train of thought, instead focusing on what lay before her.
She had a decision to make.
Of course, it was quite possible that the choice would be made for her, whether by Robin, the Justice League, police, or some other party. She almost wished for such an outcome, as it would take the oppressive weight of the dilemma off of her tired, worn shoulders.
It would be so much easier for me if I was just kicked off of the team by force.
After the thought crossed her mind, she realized its selfishness and berated herself for it. If that happened, there would no doubt be conflict between other members who didn't agree with the sentence, and could possibly even lead to a break-up of the Titans. She couldn't allow something like that to happen, and going to others for their input or advice would only bring anguish to them as well. No, this had to be her decision alone.
With that decided, she relaxed slightly, happy to have at least one issue solved. Now she could focus on where to go from there.
As she sat, the main television screen in the room, which had been set to a random news channel earlier before the alert, caught her attention. It depicted helicopter footage of the aftermath from a large battle in her very city. Smaller craters and cracks could be seen in buildings, streets, and cars in roughly a two block radius. The most noticeable feature, however, was what the camera seemed to focus on. The tell-tale signs of a much larger explosion than the others which had collapsed several buildings directly in the center of the area, inside of which many civilian paramedics and police huddled.
The headline read, "Notorious Villain Doctor Light Killed During Battle With Teen Titans. No Other Casualties Reported."
As a reporter appeared on the screen, the footage relegated to a smaller corner, the half-demon found her gaze locked onto the words. They swam before her eyes in a haze, screamed at her consciousness accusingly, a relentless reminder that she was-
"Raven!"
The empath started, losing concentration as her book fell to the floor before her, turning to the doorway as Starfire glided through it, followed by Robin. The alien immediately flew straight to the half-demon's chair, emotions radiating concern, the Boy Wonder close behind.
"We returned home as quickly as possible after you did the departing," the redhead began. "Friend Beast Boy should arrive soon as well, though friend Cyborg remained to participate in the paperwork and cleanup."
Robin caught up with his girlfriend while running his hands through his hair, which was currently is disarray. "Star carried me," he said by way of explanation.
Raven remained silent as they spoke, merely staring back at them from under her hood, debating between simply waiting them out or conjuring a portal to escape herself.
However, she simply sighed, resigned for now to talking to the team's power couple as Robin continued. "I didn't expect you to be here. I thought you'd be... I'm not sure. Not here."
Raven decided to act, for now, as though nothing had occurred. Her teammates seemed to be doing the same. "Fascinating," she deadpanned.
"Look, we don't blame you for what happened," her leader began, dashing any hope that she had of avoiding the subject. "It was an accident. You just lost it for a second there, nothing we can't work on a fix for together."
"Yes!" Starfire added loudly, lifting a finger in agreement. "You should not be doing the feeling down, friend Raven. This situation is most certainly not the fault of yourself."
Finally, the dark girl responded with a scoff. "Really? How can you say that? Just because I didn't want it to happen doesn't mean that I'm not a ki-."
The common room door opened once again, cutting her off as the trio turned to see the newcomer, a lithe green-skinned young man with eyes and hair to match, stride through them and pause at the top of the stairs. He quickly glanced around the room before his gaze settled on the empath, still sitting in her chair.
She froze.
Raven was no stranger to disapproval and other similar emotions directed her way due to her heritage, but she had never held much stock in the opinions of most others. Those who looked at her that way didn't truly know her, and therefore whatever judgements they had held no weight at all. There were very few people whose opinions truly mattered to her.
And one of those people was currently staring at her with emotions clouded with anger, fear, concern, and sadness.
Disappointment.
He was judging her.
He was disappointed in her.
Her eyes began to sting with tears at the realization, and without a second thought a portal was conjured in front of her chair and she stood to stride through, cutting off her team's cries to wait by closing it behind her.
Finding herself in her room, she reached into a pocket and withdrew her yellow disc-like communicator, staring longingly at it. The piece of tech in her hand meant more than she could have ever imagined.
It proved that, regardless of her parentage, she could strive for good. It reminded her of the position in the world that she had earned for herself. And it represented the people whom had done it alongside her, had been with her since the very beginning, had loved and trusted her, and made her finally feel like something akin to a person.
The tears almost fell as she dropped it onto her desk with a resounding thud, but she held them back.
Barely.
She then turned to the bag sitting on her bed, and felt a self of relief that she had the sense to pack beforehand regardless of what decision she ended up making as a precaution, as her teammate's voices and knocks were heard from her door, accompanied by their jumbled, frantic emotions.
She took one last look around the room, this sanctuary that she had adopted and made her own all those years ago. Reminiscing over the countless memories it contained, good and bad, happy and heartbreaking.
But she knew that she couldn't delay or afford any sentimentalities, and with a wave of a hand another dark gateway waited before her. With one more glance about the room, the last she would likely ever see of it, she walked through the portal.
-:0:-
When Raven exited the black doorway and took in her surroundings, she was almost surprised. She stood upon rocks overlooking an expansive body of water, stretching out to the horizon. Land accompanied it for a time before ending a short ways out, meaning that the place she stood was inside of a bay. She also knew without turning around that directly behind her towered a huge T-shaped building. One that she had for years called home.
She smiled a wry, bittersweet smile, before breathing in the air around her and admiring her surroundings once more, memorizing every tiny detail, from the beautiful way the setting sun reflected off the water, creating a stream of fire running from where it kissed the waves to the land, to the flicks of birds who were constantly flying above the water, winging around gracefully to rest upon the still surface only to take flight again, to the peculiar shape of a rock near her foot protruding out of the island into the bay.
She would miss this place. More than she could imagine. But she didn't have a choice.
"So you're leaving?"
She flinched at the voice, whirling around to see the very person she had ran from standing mere feet away on the rocks, emerald eyes staring emotionlessly back at her.
Beast Boy began to walk forward and she tensed in trepidation, only to be replaced by confusion as he continued right past her and took a seat on the rocks, feet hanging off the edge. He glanced back to her, his gaze questioning, along with the hint of a challenge.
Raven sighed, before dropping her bag and trudging to his side, and sitting down as well, albeit reluctantly.
"You're leaving," Beast Boy repeated. It wasn't a question this time, merely an emotionless statement.
She replied, just as unfeeling. "Yes."
"Why?"
"Garfield, you know why," she answered wearily. "I've been warning everyone about how dangerous I am since we met, and no one listened, and now someone is dead."
"Yea, Doctor Light. Big loss there," the changeling scoffed.
Raven shot him a disgusted look. "Regardless of who it was, I just killed someone. A life was ended, because I wasn't strong enough to remain in control of myself. And who's to say that next time it won't be an innocent bystander? We were just lucky that the houses I demolished were already empty. Or what if it's Star, or Robin? What if it's you? I can't..." she trailed off, unsure if she could maintain her cold, even tone if she continued.
Her teammate turned to her, fixing her with his bright green gaze, imploring her with his eyes. "Rae, that won't happen. You'd never heard us. You'd never hurt me." He paused, before adopting a bittersweet smile. "Well, other than when you toss me through walls or into the bay."
Raven ignored the attempt at humor. "You say that like I have a choice in the matter."
"Well I think you do have one, at least more than you say, but one thing that you definitely have a choice in is whether you run away and leave." The green teen's voice had grown stern, hardened, almost as if he was lecturing her. As if he knew better than her. As if he understood her.
"Yes, I can chose between putting my family's lives in danger or not," she growled in response, returning his gaze with a glare.
Beast Boy shook his head in disappointment. "Raven, your demons will always catch up to you eventually. I just want to see you stand up and face them instead of running away. Fight them. Beat them. You've done it before with Trigon, why not again?" His emotions began to spike as he spoke, attacking her with wave after wave of concern, sadness, and disappointment.
The anger rushed out of the dark empath as quickly as it had come, replaced only by hopelessness and despondency. "Because this time, the demon I need to defeat is myself."
"So what?!" He exclaimed. "You can beat anything, you're you!" He said it so convincingly, as if that were all the evidence he needed to prove his point.
"You don't think I've tried?!" Her voice rose as well, emotion fueling it. All around, rocks began to be consumed by a dark aura, unacknowledged by both teens. "If I didn't think I possibly could have kept control, I never would have come here in the first place. But I was wrong. I'm too weak."
"So you're going to run away," her teammate replied, tone derisive. "Because that takes so much strength."
She bristled once again. "I am prepared to leave behind all that I enjoy and love, just for the well-being and safety of people like you! Don't you dare try to judge me," she hissed back.
"It takes more strength to stay and fight for those things," Beast Boy countered. "So in that case I guess you're right. You are weak."
Raven starred at the changeling in shock, a look he returned with a challenge in his eyes, raising his chin in defiance. He had never spoken to her in such a... scornful way before. The emotions she detected from him were similar, still centered around that terrible sense of disappointment. Disappointment in her. As if this were all her doing, her fault.
Like she was in control of this. Like she had a choice. Like she wanted this.
Raven stood up, staring down at him furiously, eyes stinging. "I never asked to be like this, Beast Boy!" She all but yelled at him, his expression never wavering. "You think I enjoy pushing down my emotions and feelings, not allowing myself to feel, not allowing myself to live, all just so I don't kill those around me?! You think I want this?!"
She was cut short when the green teen stood as well, now returning her angered look. "And do you think you're the only one who hates what you are?!"
Her breath caught in her throat, surprise overwhelming her rage for a brief second. "What are you-."
"Do you know why I'm a vegetarian?" His voice was more controlled now, but expression and emotions still reflecting anger, hate, though she didn't think directed at her.
Bewildered by the sudden change of topic, Raven merely stared back at him, caught off guard. "Because you turn into those animals, and it would be like eating yourself..." she retired into silence uncertainly as he began shaking his head.
"Didn't think so," Beast Boy continued bitterly. He turned away, looking out to the water once more, still standing. "Sure that's a part and what I tell everyone, but more of an excuse than anything. When my parents died and before I met the Doom Patrol in Africa, I was given to my uncle, Galtry. When he looked at me, all he saw was a freak. However, I was a useful freak. He kept me as an animal, locked in a cage and collared, and forced me to do his dirty work for him with my powers. He starved me and hurt me. Until finally one day when he beat me worse than usual, I snapped. My animal instincts took over, and I..." this time it was his turn to trail off, suffocatingly strong self-disgust reigning over his other emotions and nearly overpowering her before she could force it down.
"That's why I don't eat meat," he finally finished.
"Garfield," she began softly, though was unsure of what to say. All previous hurt, uncertainty, and anger were forgotten. So instead, she merely reached for him, hesitantly placing a hand on his shoulder, which was shaking nearly imperceptibly. The shudders wracking his body seemed to calm slightly when she made contact with him. Or at least, she hoped they did.
"I never asked to be like this either, Rae," he murmured. "But I'm still here." And along with the words came more emotion, this time a deep-seated caring, along with affection.
Love.
Raven was nearly floored by the influx of feeling, but was distracted by a harsh cracking sound. She glanced away from the changeling to see that her powers had been wreaking havoc on the island, large rocks breaking off and falling into the water below, cracks running the surface, her black magic encasing it all.
The sight merely strengthened her resolve and she moved to back away, to leave him, but Beast Boy's hand placed over hers, still on his shoulder, brought her pause. "Look around, Rae. What do you see?"
She snorted. "More proof that I need to leave before I hurt anyone else."
"Really?" He replied. "Because all I see are some rocks breaking. Tell me, when have your emotions ever damaged something important? Your communicator, one of our vehicles, or even Cy himself? He's practically made out of electronics, and you've never even blown one of his fuses."
"I don't know if he has any fuses," Raven muttered halfheartedly, but he was not to be deterred, turning to look her in the eyes once more, his emerald gaze now flooded with emotion.
"Rae, you have more control over this than you realize. And even if you didn't, I'd still accept any risk I needed to if it meant you'd still be a part of my life," he told her, voice strong with conviction, heated by caring. "Because even if you never asked to be like this, I don't want you any other way."
After he finished, Raven simply stared at him silently, and him at her, emotions jumping between their eyes, their bodies, their souls. Trust, caring, love. It was overwhelming for the empath, and she was swept away in the tide, lost in a weightless yet unshakeable pressure of sentimentality.
She struggled to reign in the emotions of both herself and the changeling, and formulate a proper response, not even sure what it should be herself. Finally, she found the willpower to once again make use of the English language, and turned her face downwards to hide behind her hood, though it did nothing to lessen the assault of his emotions on hers. "Thanks." She stopped, choked with feeling. "You too."
After another short quiet, she spoke up again. "We should get back inside."
His face lit up, hope and joy flooding his boyish features and emotions, bringing her a warm, pleasant feeling as well, both from his expression and emotions transferred to her. "So you're staying?!"
Raven allowed herself a small smile. "Someone needs to be around to remind you how terrible your jokes are."
Beast Boy didn't respond, but instead swept the dark empath up in a tight hug, pressing her to him desperately. And though she generally was against physical contact of any kind, she decided that she would allow it just this once.
And when he pulled away, briefly only to come close once again, closer than before this time, mere centimeters separating them, to gaze into her eyes one last time, noses brushing each other's, she once again chose to let it slide, and closed the space between them. A foreign but wonderful warmth erupted inside of her at the sensation, and her eyes quickly slid closed, bringing a hand to cup his face automatically as their lips danced slowly, passionately, against the other's. His arms slid around her, keeping her anchored to him, and she sighed into his mouth.
The kiss was languid and agonizingly slow, a gradual burning fire that eventually began to ignite between them, stoked by their passion. Raven finally allowed herself to be completely and utterly taken by his emotions as it continued, and in return shared hers with him, inundated by raw feeling. They mixed together, until she was unsure where her emotions ended and his began, and they were one as she surrended wholly to the sense of pure love.
That is, until his tongue brushed her lips, and with a deafening crash the rocks they were standing on shattered, plunging them into the waiting bay, the chill water shocking her back to reality with a gasp. And yet, when she saw her teammate's confused, flustered expression when he surfaced beside her, sputtering in disarray, she couldn't help but laugh.
Because they may have never asked to be the way they were, but Trigon be damned if they let that get in the way of each other.
And with that, BBRae Week 2018 is over. I hope you all enjoyed reading what I came up with, if you want more feel free to check out my Fanfic account, link in my bio. BBRae Week 2018: Theme 1, Can’t Help Falling In Love With You
Disclaimer: Don’t own Teen Titans. Not making a profit.
BBRae Week Theme 1 - Can’t Help Falling in Love With You OTP: BBRae
Raven wasn’t used to being shocked speechless.
Her fingers curled around the handle of the door latch as she straightened her body in the passenger seat. For a brief moment, she considered throwing the car door open and making a run for it. Usually teleportation would be her choice of escape, but considering the current state of her emotions, teleportation would not be a wise choice.
The empath closed her eyes, trying to silence to the anxious thudding in her chest. Her eyes slowly drifted to the man in the driver’s seat.
His emerald green eyes loving focused on her. For a moment, Raven thought she caught a glimpse of amusement in his stare, but he wouldn’t.
Not right now.
This wasn’t a joke.
Gar knew there was a time and place for jokes.
Raven inhaled sharply her gaze settled on him, her eyebrows raised.
He smiled softly, leaning closer to her and placing a gentle hand on her thigh. Gar tilted his head to her, raising his eyebrows at her as he waited for a response.
Raven slowly uncurled her fingers from the door latch, swallowing the lump in her throat. “Okay.” She responded with a little nod. She steadied her breathing, waiting for his reaction.
Gar released a breathy chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. “Okay then.” He nodded, releasing her hand as he moved to exit the car. “Let’s get some ice cream.”
Wait, what? “What?”
“I thought we were getting ice cream.” He closed the car door, looking at his girlfriend confused. The changeling  pointed to the ice cream shop in front of them.
“You just told me you love me.” Raven’s eyes narrowed as she tried to process the situation.
“I did.” He confirmed.
“I told you ‘okay’.”
“Yep. I was there.” Gar reminded her with a firm nod.
What the hell was going on? “And how you wanna go and get some ice cream?”
He blinked owlishly. “I thought that was plan. We both wanted ice cream.”
“You just told me you loved me, and I said okay!” Raven shouted confused.
“I don’t know what you want from me, woman.” Gar sighed with a smile, grabbing her hand and lacing their fingers together.
“You’re okay with the fact that I didn’t say it back?” Raven asked him, pointedly. She didn’t need to remind him that she was an empath and could easily discover how he felt about the situation. “Honestly?” But, this whole relationship thing complicated her desire to invade his emotional headspace.
“Honestly,” He started with a little shrug. “Yea, I would’ve liked for you to say it back to me. I mean, of course.”
“We’ve only been dating for a couple months.”
“So?”
“So,” Raven stated. “People who have been together for a couple months don’t say I love you.”
“Um, Rae, people get married within days of meeting each other.”
“Doesn’t mean it’s a smart decision.”
He nodded, agreeing with her for a brief moment. “Doesn’t mean that they won’t last.” He tenderly stroked her hand.
“It’s foolish.”
“I can’t help what I feel, and,” Gar confessed honestly. “I love you.”
What was the appropriate response to that? Besides the returning the sentiment.
“And you don’t have to say it back yet.” He told her placing a hand to her cheek. “I said it because that’s how I feel, and I want you to know that I love you.”
Her face burned with emotion and nerves.
“I want you tell me when you’re ready, but until then…” His forehead came to rest against her’s. “You don’t have to say anything.”
“Okay.” Raven nodded, feeling lightheaded as he leaned into kiss her.
“I love you.”

First Dance
“May I have this dance?” a green hand that disappeared into the sleeve of a black tuxedo held itself out just below Raven’s eye level. Beast Boy stood on the opposite side of the table where she was sitting, giving her space. Hope sparkled in his eyes, a fang-toothed smile spread across his face as he waited for Raven to contemplate her answer.
                                                        ~~~
“What do you mean you don’t know how to dance?” An incredulous Beast Boy all but shouted at Raven. “I didn’t say I don’t know how to dance. I just don’t dance. There’s a difference.” Came the slightly irritated response, in a tone that said this conversation was over. Beast Boy wasn’t giving into this argument so easily however, he and Raven had been teammates enough years now for the changeling to have learnt when he needed to drop a topic with the empathic girl and when he could argue till he was almost literally blue in the face. Either way, he knew he would lose the fight, but being able to keep Raven’s attention engaged on him for longer than the time it took to shut him down was always a win in his eyes.
And Beast Boy had just stumbled upon a new topic that would keep him amused for weeks: working out why Raven refused to dance. “If you don’t dance, then the only explanation is that you don’t know how. Come on Rae, surely you’ve tried it at least once in your life – listening to your favourite song alone in your room and boogieing along with it a bit.” Raven’s deadpan glare stared back at him “I. Don’t. Dance.”
                                                       ~~~
A smile crept across Raven’s face – not quite wide enough to match Beast Boy’s, but in terms of Raven smiles, she was practically beaming. She reached out her own slender hand and let it rest in Beast Boy’s palm as she stood up from her chair. Beast Boy followed her along the length of the table, never letting go of her hand. Her form hugging dress, a light shade of navy, trailed slightly along the ground behind her. Once she reached the end, he tugged her to his side and led her over to the dance floor.
“I would love to.” She said quietly, as they walked to the middle of the floor.
                                                       ~~~
“There has to be some reason why you never learnt to dance.” It had been three weeks now – a record for both Beast Boy’s attention span, and Raven’s willingness to put up with his pestering. “How many times do I have to tell you, I never said I don’t know how, I just don’t dance.” Raven had long given up being openly irritated with him and had moved on to repeating the same answer over and over, hoping it would eventually bore the green teen. Beast Boy, who had up until that point, been playing one of his video games as he continued probing Raven for an acceptable answer, paused it and turned towards the pale girl sitting on the edge of the lounge, a book in her lap and a mug of tea floating next to her. Sometime over the past year or so, she had started spending less time alone in her room and more out in the common room with the rest of the team. She still rarely took part in the games they played during their down time, but she would at least remain with them. Once in a while she would even agree to referee a game of Stank Ball, much to the joy of Starfire and Cyborg and the confusion of Robin. Beast Boy was just happy to see that she had finally grown comfortable enough to all some of her guard down around them all. Which was good, because he was beginning to rely on having her calming presence in the room with him.
“Which means you don’t know how. So come on Rae, spill. Why are you so scared of dancing?” He probed further, turning so his whole body was now facing her. “I’m not scared. I’ve just never had any reasons to dance. Having a demon for a father and being told your entire life that you will be the portal for the end of the world kind of takes the spontaneity out of life. It makes dancing pointless. Much like your ongoing interest in this topic.”
                                                       ~~~
The couple stood in the middle of the room together. Beast Boy moved one of Raven’s hands to his shoulder, then moved his arm down her body to wrap around her waist; pulling her as close to him as possible. He raised her other hand in his and allowed his smile to become more gentle as he looked down at his partner. They may have been surrounded by a ballroom full of people, but this moment was for the two of them alone. “Ready?” He whispered
                                                       ~~~
“Come on. Get up then.” Raven blinked slowly at the outstretched hand in front of her face. “What?” “Get up. I’m going to teach you how to dance.” There was no trace of the usual humour to be found in either Beast Boy’s face or voice, which only served to confuse Raven further. “No.” Beast Boy sighed, dropping his hand to his side, but stepping closer to her at the same time. He knelt down so that he was eye level with her, “Raven, you have two choices right now: get up and let me teach you how to slow dance. Or I’ll go and find Starfire and tell her that you want to learn a Tamaranean folk dance.” Raven paled, she could hear in the tone of his voice how serious his threat was.
“Beast Boy, why do you care so much about my ability to dance?” she asked exasperated. Now it was Beast Boy’s turn to look confused, he sat back on his hunches for a minute, contemplating the right answer. “Because once in a while, everyone needs to be able to get up and do a silly dance when they’re happy. And because one day you’re going to fall in love with someone amazing. And when you decide to celebrate how much you love them with everyone you know, then you’ll want to dance with that person. And I can’t stand the thought of you standing in front of everyone you love and not knowing how to do your first dance.” Raven was taken aback by the sincerity in his tone. She had never considered the possibility of having a first dance before. Having lived her whole life believing she would bring on the end of the world on her sixteenth birthday, falling in love…getting married…dancing for Azar’s sake, were all things she had never allowed herself to believe she would experience.  But they had defeated Trigon, and now Raven’s life and future were open to a world of possibilities that she had never thought of before.
She met Beast Boy’s eyes, “Okay.” His eyes lit up with surprise, but was almost instantly replaced with unabashed joy. He jumped up, holding his hand out to her again, waiting patiently for her to stand up with him. “Just don’t blame me when I stomp on your toes.” She grumbled.
                                                       ~~~
“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Bride and Groom: Raven and Garfield Logan as they perform their first dance.” Cyborg’s voice rang through the crowd, calling all eyes to the couple in the centre of the room. The music began. “Don’t worry, you can still step on my feet.”

BBRAE Week 2018 Day 4: It’s 3AM
Beast Boy opened his eyes, something he was pleasantly surprised by. After all, when somebody loses consciousness due to blood loss in an alley, they don’t exactly expect to wake up. He was in a lot of pain, which made sense, all things considered. But he was familiar with pain; on a scale that included his time with Doctor Register, this rated as a five out of ten, six when he moved too suddenly.
“Dude,” He moaned to nobody in particular. “What happened?”
“Nothin’ good, Grass Stain.” Vic answered, laying a hand on his shoulder. “Blood loss, fractures, burns… you’re lucky to be alive.” Beast Boy looked around the dark infirmary, seeing Raven in the bed next to his.
“Is Raven okay?” He asked the instant he saw her. “She’s not hurt, is she?”
“Is Raven- Is Raven okay?!” Victor spluttered incredulously. “You have a brush with death and you’re worried about her?” He shook his head, smiling to himself. “She’s fine man; a couple bruises and a bad case of exhaustion.” He smiled reassuringly. “She just needs a little rest, B.”
“Healing me must’ve taken everything she had.” Beast Boy murmured. “She said she wouldn’t let me die.” Suddenly, a spectre of recollection reared its ugly head. “Oh no…” He groaned.
“What’s wrong, man?” His best friend asked, concern, possibly even panic, in his voice.
“I can’t believe I told her all that!” The changeling whimpered.
“Told who?” Vic enquired, sounding equal parts worried and annoyed.
“Raven!” Beast Boy exclaimed.
“...Well damn, now I’m just curious.” Victor shrugged. “So what’d you tell her, Grass Stain?”
“I told her that I love her.” He groaned.
“Okay, Am I missing something?” Victor asked after a moment of confused silence. “Because I don’t see what the problem is.”
“She’s gonna freak out when she wakes up!” Beast Boy exclaimed angrily. “I can’t believe I just sprang it on her like that!”
“Seriously, B?” Victor scoffed. “You’re worried that your girlfriend, the empath might not have been ready for you to use the ‘L’ word?”
“She probably wasn’t ready for me to start talking about marrying her!” Beast Boy squealed.
“You’re not wrong.” Raven deadpanned.
“Raven?!” Gar squeaked “You’re awake?”
“And that’s my cue to leave.” Vic muttered, leaving slightly faster than Gar felt was necessary.
“Did he seriously just bail on you?” Raven asked.
“Yep, he bailed.” Gar confirmed.
“Some friend he is.” Raven muttered shaking her head. “So… are you okay?”
“Not too bad,” Gar shrugged, wincing as he did so. “I’m not doing too great, but I’ll live. You okay?”
“Just tired.” Raven replied simply. “You took my beating for me, remember?”
“Vaguely.” Gar chuckled.
“Well… I guess we’d better address the elephant in the room.”
“I can’t shapeshift until I’ve healed properly,” Gar stated bluntly. “Otherwise I’d be an elephant right now.”
“Of course you would,” Raven rolled her eyes. “Because Azar forbid you actually take this seriously.”
“You want serious?” Gar asked, taking his girlfriend’s words as a challenge. “Fine, let’s get serious. We’re in the infirmary, and Vic’s probably eavesdropping, but who cares?”
“If he is, he’ll regret it.” Raven replied, a warning for their friend. After a moment, they heard the sound of an extremely heavy man running away on feet made of metal. “Victor’s gone, and so is your excuse to avoid awkward conversations.”
“Fine,” Gar groaned; he really wasn’t ready for this conversation. “What’s first?”
“You nearly died.” Raven said flatly. “You nearly got yourself killed being an overly sentimental idiot.”
“They said they were demon hunters!” “Gar responded, trying his best not to let his irritation show. “They landed a hit on you, and I went kind of nuts, okay? It wasn’t a conscious decision.”
“It was one sloppy punch.” Raven pointed out. “They weren’t exactly cutting me to ribbons.”
“My instincts didn’t seem to care.” Gar shrugged. “And honestly, I agree with them.”
“It was stupid and reckless!” Raven snapped.
“And burning yourself out to heal me wasn’t?” He shot back. “Besides, we both know that isn’t the real issue here.”
“You’re right,” Raven agreed. “It’s not. When you were… injured, you said that you loved me.” She blushed faintly; god, he loved that blush. It was something that the rest of the world didn’t get to see, a moment of openness, a reminder that, around him, she felt comfortable letting her guard down almost completely. “And, well… did you mean it?”
“Can’t you tell?” Gar asked, genuinely confused. “You’re an empath, after all.”
“I need to hear you say it.” Raven said, almost pleading.
“I meant every word of it.” Gar replied simply. “I love you, and I’ll keep saying it as many times as you want me to.”
“And the other thing?” Raven asked, her voice hopeful and her face terrified. “Did you mean that too?”
“...Screw it.” Gar shrugged. “I wish I could’ve gotten this right, but hey, why start now, am I right?” He hoisted himself off of the infirmary bed, wincing as various body parts lodged complaints. “No time like the present.” He felt the wound in his thigh reopen as he lowered himself to one knee. “Raven, I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me?” At first she was silent, and Gar felt himself beginning to worry that he might have made a mistake.
“Yes.” She whispered. “Yes!” She threw her arms around him. “I love you too, so much it feels like I’m going crazy.” She kissed him, soft and chaste. “Of course I’ll marry you.” Another kiss, considerably less innocent. “And if you weren’t still injured, I’d rip that hospital gown right off of you and--”
“Rae, as much as I’d love to hear the end of that sentence,” Beast Boy reluctantly interrupted his fiancee (fiancee!). “We’ve got an audience.” He pointed to the door, where Kori, Dick and Victor stood.
“Oh no,” Their leader smirked. “Don’t let us stop you. Just pretend we’re not here.”
“Dude, it’s 3 AM!” Beast Boy exclaimed. “Why are you guys even awake?”
“I asked Vic to tell me when you guys were awake.” Dick replied.
“And I was awoken due to my being asleep beside boyfriend Richard after a vigorous session of lovemaking!” Kori offered cheerfully, causing Dick to blush to the roots of his hair. Kori had once told Beast Boy in confidence that she knew how much it flustered Dick when she was candid about the physical side of their relationship, which was why she was so candid about it in the first place.
“I was going to ask you for information on your attackers, but the debriefing can wait until morning.” Nightwing said, clearly eager to change the subject.
“It sounds to me like you already got some debriefing done while we were out cold.” Beast Boy snickered.
“And it sounds to me,” Victor interjected. “Like Raven was planning to do a little debriefing of her own.” Beast Boy could feel himself blushing.
“Oh, what glorious news!” Kori exclaimed, flying in and sweeping Beast Boy into a hug like a hydraulic press.
“Star,” Raven said levelly. “If you don’t mind, I’d rather you didn’t suffocate my fiancee.”
“Oh!” Starfire released him. “My apologies friend Garfield, I did not mean to cause you harm!”
“It’s cool.” Beast Boy croaked.
“I guess congratulations are in order.” Dick began, smiling earnestly. “We’re all happy for you.”
“You won’t be happy for long,” Beast Boy snickered. “After all, you’ve got a lot of explaining to do when Star starts to wonder why We got engaged before you did.” And just like that, their fearless leader went white as a sheet.
“I, uhh… I should go.” Dick stammered nervously. “You guys need your rest.” And with that, he bolted, with Kori in hot pursuit.
“Two down,” Beast Boy smirked. “One to go.”
“You ain’t shiftin’ me that easy, Grass Stain,” Victor grinned. “Unlike Bird Boy, I don’t turn tail and run from unexpected emotional intimacy.”
“Vic,” Raven began, her tone patient. “You know I care about you.”
“Same to you, Rae,” Victor smiled warmly. “You’re like my little sister.”
“I know,” Raven nodded. “I’m counting on it. Because if you don’t give us some privacy until morning, I’ll begin to describe Garfield and my sex life.” She sounded deadly serious. “In graphic detail.”
“You wouldn’t dare,” Victor replied, narrowing his eyes. “That’d be getting way too personal, and you don’t do personal.”
“Gar does,” Raven replied simply. “And I’m giving him permission to do so effective immediately.”
Beast Boy grinned evilly as his best friend turned to face him, fear in his eyes. “You know I’ll do it.”
“You win, you win!” Vic shouted in a panic, backing out the door.
“We’re way too good at messing with them.” Gar noted.
“Absolutely.” Raven agreed. “This sort of power is sure to corrupt us.”
“You sure it hasn’t already done that?” Gar shot back.
“You might have a point.” She smirked. “So…”
“So…” Gar chuckled. “What now?”
“I’ll be blunt;” Raven replied. “I’m thinking that I’d prefer a long engagement.”
“Works for me,” Gar shrugged, trying and failing to keep a huge, giddy grin off of his face. “I wouldn’t want you to rush into anything.”
“And I’ll want to see this ring you’ve ‘already picked out’ before you buy it.” She stated plainly.
“Makes sense.” Gar nodded. “After all, you’ll be the one wearing it.”
“I suppose we’ll have to tell Titans East and all the others.” Raven said, seemingly going through an internal checklist.”
“Heck, tell the villains while we’re at it.” Gar joked.
“But for now,” Raven said. “I say we get some sleep in a bed that’s actually comfortable. Mine, for example.”
“It’s like you read my mind.” Gar grinned, throwing one arm over her shoulder.
“And just to be clear,” Raven said, her tone carrying the merest hint of mischief. “I retain the right to act on my previously-stated intentions vis a vis that hospital gown.”
“Thank god I heal so fast.”
