& yet they are not incapable of moral judgment or self-awareness ... it's just that their priorities are very, very different, because they're fundamentally not wired to understand social relationships. the story of a demon girl adopted by a human family, who went on to murder her adoptive father and take her adoptive sister 'hostage', is a tragedy on all sides -- the demon girl understood that the villagers were hostile to her, & the parents of another child she'd murdered had demanded that she 'give our daughter back!' ... & so she attempted to do that. this daughter was already attached to a parent, though, but that was a solvable problem. that's what you wanted, right? now you have a daughter again. i gave your daughter back.

... ah. oh no. i seem to have made a mistake.

but there is moral reasoning happening there -- this is an attempt at appeasement and reconciliation! it's sincerely meant! it's just coming from a being that doesn't understand that familial relationships are non-fungible, and nobody realized that she needed to be taught that, in part because she looks so human. it is the tragedy of thinking you can keep a tiger in your house, if a tiger looked almost exactly like a human child

so you see why this premise is, uh, fraught, & why i'm extremely nervous about how it will develop -- i think the setup with the story of the demon girl (our first introduction to demons as a concept) is promising, though, and i am always a sucker for 'no this entity is working on really, fundamentally different principles than you do, and if you don't understand that you will have a very bad time'

SILVER:

I think most ppl don't know, but I used to really dislike Silver when I was first introduced to this character online. Not a game, no no, but YouTube AMV vids of this dude with cutesy shippy art of Silvaze. His portrayal was so degraded to me (I was 11 at that time?) that I believed he was a self-insert character for some popular artists to ship themselves with Blaze, in the girl-boss dynamic. Ofc, I looked for more info online and realised Silver was an actual character.

At that time I was playing Sonic Riders Zero Gravity and only unlocked Shadow/Rouge/Cream. After knowing what characters were avaliable, I tried my best to unlock the rest, including Silver. I also did not like his voice in English at that time, so much that I decided to switch the voice-overs to Japanese. And I also did not like it 😂 Not because it was grading! But more like, I was shocked by the drastic difference between the two. Kid me had to decide which portrayal I prefer more (ofc not aware of narrative difference of the scripts, I just chose based on my preference) and ended up with Japanese bc I vibe with the calm seriousness in the voice more. Eventually I did get used to both voices after more exposure of this character, watching playthrough videos online.

Talking about watching 06, I was not expecting him to be so different from my first impression of this "whiny/incapable/loser" kid. Silver actually was serious about fighting for his future, like a dedicated soldier. Blaze was *not* the girl-boss, she was on equal grounds with Silver. (Really... I was like 11/12, now that I think about it, how come ppl's comprehension skills so drastically apart that we can get totally different character interpretations?) I started to find charming traits on Silver, and that was when I started looking up for this character's info more & more.

And then I discovered the Rivals series. I watched the whole thing, 1&2, and this Espio character... Wait they're kinda nice tgt. (it was year 2012?? AAAAA I can't believe I'm still insane about Espilver/Silvespio, they're my sons now at this point 😭✨) I remember using Skype and talked about the ✨chemistry✨ between Silver & Espio, and my friend said I was tripping 😭

Anyway here's Espio:

At that time I didn't have that much knowledge on Espio, I just thought their Eng voice in Heroes sounded like he's dying in a few years with how gruff & grandpa it sounded LOL. Mostly I only draw him with Silver bc I realised no one shipped these two back then. (there was ppl but there was no tags for them) So I felt like, no, impossible. I need to COOK for them! So I started shipping them like FedEx with my limited skills 🥴

My Espio appriciation was mainly started by shipping him with Silver. As I reflect on why I enjoy this ship so much, I dug up traits that I like about Espio. He was helpful, supportive, and overall has a rather peaceful way of communicating with others (aka SILVER hhh). Compared to other characters, especially in Rivals, he was really chill and kept his head clear, and unconditionally aided Silver simply bc he knew he was helping someone with a good cause. Such admirable traits that I'd say are pretty rare even irl.

Still, Espio did not have that much screen time. His portrayal in my mind I do admit was half canon, half fanon. Silly ninja with goofy teammates that values teamwork & is capable of aiding others, plus saint-like patience & wisdom. (Haha...really, a lot of his traits are get from Rivals 2, his ways of interacting with individuals was way more informative than games & anime shows combined 🤧)

But yeah, with time I like these 2 characters even more, started to make all kinds of headcanons that I won't be able to elaborate here. The texts are already getting too long here 😂 I've imagined them, either tgt or separately, in fluff/angst/spice/AU/wholesome/dead dove/anything really bc I just enjoy these two so much 💕

It's kinda selfish to say, but with how little Espilver there was during that time, it was almost like they got a clean slate & I was not swayed by any other ppl's interpretation of these two for a few years. And ofc by time these two surely became my favorite characters. LOL I realised in my busy years of not drawing often, Silver & Espio were the only characters I drew 😂

anyway so 山外 chorus!! it has eight lines split into two stanzas and the first three lines of each stanza is a poetic reference which is absolutely insane to me?? lyricist大大 真是太佩服您了

the first line of both stanzas is 山外青山楼外楼 / beyond the mountains are yet more verdant mountains—beyond the towers are yet more towers. i translated it a bit more literally to get the parallel structure, but a more figurative translation might be something like an unending expanse of verdant mountains—the buildings stretch on for so long one cannot tell where they begin or end.

this line comes from the 七绝 / seven-character quatrain 《题临安邸》 / on the subject of the inns and residences in lin'an by song dynasty poet 林升 lin sheng. (note: 邸 here refers to an inn, but i've also translated it as residence to emphasise lin sheng's criticism of the government officials who have come, in his view, to visit lin'an in this poem.)

the poem goes something like this (aka, have yet another very rough tl):

山外青山楼外楼， / beyond the mountains are yet more verdant mountains—beyond the towers are yet more towers; 西湖歌舞几时休？ / at what hour will the singing and dancing on the western lake come to an end? 暖风熏得游人醉， / the fragrance wafting through the warm breeze sweeps the sight-seers into a drunken stupor; 直把杭州作汴州。 / they have simply taken hangzhou to be once-glorious bianzhou.

context! this poem was written after the fall of the (northern) song to the jurchen invaders. as the capital of the song dynasty, bianzhou (known today as kaifeng) was captured and sacked by the jurchen, and the song rulers who managed to escape fled to southern china, whereupon they made hangzhou the capital of the southern song. the emperor gaozong, the only one of the imperial house who wasn't in bianzhou at the time, took the throne in lin'an, which he favoured for being a 人间天堂 (paradise on earth, basically). the officials then proceeded to engage wantonly in song and dance—that is, in a life of degenerate extravagance and debauchery, and it got to the point where hangzhou was labelled a 销金锅 (lit. "a pot of melting gold"), which is now used to describe a place in which huge amounts of money and gold are frittered away. it was this exact attitude that this poem is criticising lol.

(i'm putting the rest under a read more because i am apparently incapable of shutting up)

the second line is 不如黄鹂鸣翠柳 / it cannot compare to the singing of golden orioles in jade-green willows. this line is adapted from the first line of the third (and most famous) of 杜甫 du fu's 《绝句四首》 / four quatrains: 两个黄鹂鸣翠柳 / two golden orioles sing in jade-green willows.

some background info on du fu because the guy is just ridiculous: he's known as one of the three greatest tang dynasty poets, aka the triumvirate 李杜白 lidubai, which stands for 李白 li bai, 杜甫 du fu, and 白居易 bai juyi. depending on who you ask, either he or li bai is the greatest classical chinese poet of all time. he's known as either the 诗圣 / poet-sage, for the way he engages with morality in his poetry, and also the 诗史 / poet-historian, because of his extant poetry (and it's a truly insane amount, btw, i mean, close to 1500, which is wild for a guy who lived in the 8th century), many were intended as political commentary and therefore indirectly shed light on the effects felt by the common people. anyway, he's also extremely notable for his range and technical excellence, because given just how many poems he wrote, it's kind of understandable that he ended up writing in all the poetic forms available to him at the time. but also wow.

the most incredible part to me about him is that he specialised in 律诗 / regulated verse (about two-thirds of his extant poetry is in this form) which is. holy shit. this form is incredibly demanding, and it's absolutely astounding just how easy du fu makes it look. i won't get into it here because i've already rambled enough about him, but if you watched shl, part of his poem 《登高》 / climbing the heights, which is one of the best existing examples of 律诗 out there, was quoted in the lyrics for 天涯客, and i explain it in the footnotes of my translation.

anyway, onto the actual poem! the context is that it was written after the an-shi rebellion was quelled; coincidentally, it was this exact rebellion that greatly influenced du fu's writing. after learning that his good friend yan wu, the governor-general of chengdu, had returned to his post, du fu too returned to his home in chengdu in great spirits. upon seeing the fresh and vivid spring scenery, he was seized by the impulse to compose a poem about it. the reason it's just named 绝句 / quatrains is because he didn't think of a title before writing it and was too lazy to come up with one afterwards (mood).

the couplet that's quoted also uses parallelism, btw. specifically:

两、一 -> number 个、行 -> measure word 黄、白 -> adjective: colour 鹂、鹭 -> noun: type of bird 鸣、上 -> verb 翠、青 -> adjective: colour 柳、天 -> noun: nature

(yeah he writes like that. constantly. how, you ask? excellent question, i don't know either.)

anyway, the full poem, as roughly translated by me:

两个黄鹂鸣翠柳， / two golden orioles sing in jade-green willows; 一行白鹭上青天。 / a line of white herons rise into the blue skies. 窗含西岭千秋雪， / within the window—snow atop the western ridges, gathered over a thousand autumns; 门泊东吴万里船。 / outside the door—vessels in anchorage, come ten thousand miles from eastern wu.

and now, finally, the third line! this one isn't a line from a poem, but the title of one: 春江花月夜 by tang dynasty poet 张若虚 zhang ruoxu, which i've translated as flowers by the spring river on a moonlit night. i won't be translating the full poem because it's incredibly long and this post is long enough as is, but it's gorgeous. it was praised by the poet 闻一多 wen yiduo as being 诗中的诗，顶峰上的顶峰 / the poem of poems, the pinnacle of pinnacles, and is also considered to have 压全唐 / surpassed the entirety of the tang [in poetry], which is insane considering just how many incredible poems/poets came out of the tang dynasty, aka the literal golden age of chinese poetry (if you recall, 李杜白 lidubai were all tang dynasty poets).

this is a 宫体诗 / palace-style poem, and each character in the title is described in great detail: 春 / spring, for the gentle and exquisite spring; 江 / river, for the winding and flowing river; 花 / flowers, for the hazy but resplendent flowers; 月 / moon, for the glow of the distant moon reflected in water; and 夜 / night, for the tranquil and melancholic night.

other than the scenery, this poem also explores the enigmas of the universe and human existence—specifically, how although each of our lives are short and limited, the existence of humanity as a whole stretches on unendingly, much like the bright moon that rises over the river day after day. it then goes on to describe the yearning of a wife for her travelling husband (fun fact: he's travelling by boat on the river), and the last line in particular is very, well. it's very li lianhua-core, shall we say? 不知乘月几人归，落月摇情满江树。 / i know not how many will return with the moonlight; the falling moon sways with the sorrow of parting, spilling it over the riverside trees. yeah. :)

next up is a quote from tang dynasty poet 王勃 wang bo, who wrote one of my absolute favourite couplets of all time, it literally rewrote my brain chemistry omg: 海内存知己，天涯若比邻。 / as long as there remains someone who knows me within the four oceans, we will be as neighbours even at the edges of the earth. (i definitely shoved it in here bc it's relevant to this post since zeng shunxi quoted it in his farewell letter to fang duobing and absolutely not bc i just wanted to :D)

anyway the ACTUAL quote is 物换星移几度秋 / landscapes change and stars shift—how many autumns have passed? it comes from the poem 《滕王阁诗》 / prince teng's pavilion: a poem, which is considered a founding piece of tang literature. in days of yore, this pavilion was constructed by prince teng, son of the tang emperor gaozu, and was often used by him to host great feasts and guests, but now that he's now long gone, the only thing left is the empty expanse of river water that flows beneath the railings. basically, it laments the ephemeral prosperity and declines of human life, particularly when contrasted against the perpetuity of the universe.

and now, at long last, the final poetic reference! the line in question is 举杯销愁愁更愁 / raise a cup to drown your sorrows, but the sorrows only worsen, which, apart from referencing a classical poem, also links back to a very similar line from the opening theme 就在江湖之上 / at the pinnacle of the jianghu: 千杯不醉入愁肠 / a thousand cups of wine lead not to intoxication but despair.

as for the poem, this one comes from 李白 li bai, the man the legend the icon himself, poet-drunkard-swordsman-hermit-he of the multiple moon and wine poems (although that pretty much describes all of classical chinese poetry so, eh). i only know three (five?) chinese poems by heart in their entirety and one of them is by this guy (静夜思, bc every cn diaspora kid learns that growing up).

this particular poem, 《宣州谢朓楼饯别校书叔云》 / ascending xie tiao's pavilion in xuanzhou for a farewell repast with uncle yun of the imperial record-keepers, is a leavetaking poem (clearly), and opens with the lines 弃我去者，昨日之日不可留。乱我心者，今日之日多烦忧。 / yesterday, which has abandoned me, can no longer be pleaded with to stay. today, which upsets my heart, causes me much anxiety. then it takes a rapid one-eighty into describing the gorgeous scenery (长风万里送秋雁 / the great winds escort the wild geese through the autumn skies) and the noble aspirations being discussed while drinking their fill atop this tall pavilion. and then right after the couplet 俱怀逸兴壮思飞，欲上青天览明月 / all harbouring intrepid and grandiose thoughts, in our surging states of mind, we desire to leap into the blue skies and take the bright moon into our arms, the poem plummets once more into the abyss of misery at the realisation that these ideals/aspirations sharply conflict with reality. (remind you of someone?)

here's where the couplet this song quotes comes into play: 抽刀断水水更流，举杯消愁愁更愁。 / draw a blade to stem the flow of water, but the surge of water only gets fiercer; raise a cup to drown your sorrows, but the sorrows only worsen. it is at this moment that the poet decides, you know what, i'm going to retire to live in the jianghu. specifically, he says: 人生在世不称意，明朝散发弄扁舟。 / since life in this world is so incongruous with my desires, i may as well let my hair down and drift through the jianghu on a small boat. :) everything's about li lianhua here huh.

and there you have it! 2,222 words about all the poetic references (that i'm aware of) in 山外.

I am MELTING ON THE FLOOR over how much i love the entire Horizons cast a;dslfjk like losing ash is still. very bittersweet. but every single character in the new series is like engineered to appeal to me and it's Very Rude

so first off Liko?? little anxious baby, freezes up from overthinking, a DRASTIC change from past characters and a very bold choice for the like main protagonist but one that feels necessary to really differentiate this new series from the old,, then her (over)willingness to sacrifice herself (please, sweetheart, please get over that i am begging you nobody wants to see you get captured)??? and then her dynamics with all of the other characters are PERFECT, especially Nyaoha and Roy (even though they've. just met) and i can't wait to see how they develop!!

then ROY. Baby. Baby boy. Pure sunshine. I think he may be the single purest character in the entire franchise. Him and Hogator are SO CUTE (if you haven't seen the new episode yet PLEASE watch it i cried from the cuteness) and i can't wait to see how he officially joins the gang (i have. theories. but we shall see) and again, the dynamic with Liko is. absolutely beautiful a;sdflj

then FRIEDE. man. man is cocky, a bit of a himbo ("What? didn't I mention that?" SIR excuse me that was important,,,) but also intelligent enough to be a professor, i am FROTHING AT THE MOUTH for more backstory. (...plus he's pretty ok). the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers (who can share a section just bc they. have not had much screentime yet) are also just. fantastic. Murdock with his cute little puppy being the biggest softest man around (and completely failing his section in the ED a;dfsjk i'm so glad they made him Incapable of Being Cool), and then Orla being just. so tired half the time (mood) and also HELLA cool, just based on vibes, and MOLLIE (and oh, I do love the theories about her being a Joy. i beg of you, GIVE ME THE BACKSTORY, POKEMON) with her smirks and glares and her angry chansey jacket just generally being a boss and the opposite of what you'd expect from a healer,,, and Ludlow who... I don't have much to say about other than that I'm side-eyeing his beard. I don't believe it's real. where is his FACE. but i'm interested to learn more about what the hell he's doing with this group a;sdfkj

and then there's THE EXPLORERS!! who are apparently notorious, for reasons that will hopefully be elaborated on. i usually love villain characters so no surprises here but I LOVE THEM,,, they're already significantly more ruthless than most past villains so that is. very very fun. Conia is very very funny with her feelings on nyaoha as;kdflj and then Zir is a little bit less developed thus far but so far he seems to be kind of the more serious of the two and i'm really excited to see how he goes from here on out!! and then AMETHIO. i may have missed something in my initial watch but i honestly assumed he was a rather short adult from his speaking style and how the others deferred to him,, but I'm now thinking meant to be like older teens? definitely older than Liko but now i'm SO CURIOUS as to how he ended up in his position here. and he is also!! so pretty!! top tier design a;sldkfj i'm just in love with the trio's dynamics and i NEED to know their goals and what they plan to do with Liko and the pendant (and. if i'm right about how the next episode is gonna go. very soon Roy and his ball will be added to that list) i am DYING of anticipation

My whole like, experience with being on the ace spectrum is so wild compared to my other gender/sexuality experiences cause like, they're all extremely straightforward and I don't relate to things outside of that. Like I'm a lesbian so I'm attracted to women and not to men, and anyone who's nonbinary is a case-by-case basis. And it's very simple and I'm categorically incapable of relating to people who experience attraction in a different way. A straight girl or a gay man could spend a year telling me about their boyfriend and why they love him and I could not muster anything more than "I'm glad you're happy". I know on an intellectual level that someone can be attracted to a guy but I couldn't understand it in a way that matters. And my gender is even simpler, it's just Girl. And people will be like "don't you also hate the concept of binary genders bc you are also trans" and it's like, sure, on a societal level I think the binary needs to be abolished, but I'm still going to choose to be the least complex form of girl. I'm not capable of understanding the desire for a more unique gender or different pronouns or elaborate gender expression. And like obviously I don't need to, I have friends who have interesting genders and fun pronouns and boyfriends and I think they're all cool as hell, it's just not something I understand.

But fuckin, my being aspec is just a constant parade of "oh I relate to that, I relate to that, that makes sense, I get that" like every single aspect is easily understandable even if I'm not that particular thing. Like I get people who never want to have sex even though I wouldn't personally be opposed, I get people who don't have a particular interest but do it anyway bc it's not that important to them even though I wouldn't ever do that, i get people who are completely aromantic even though I do experience romantic attraction at times. There's just a lot of things on this spectrum and they're all frankly very relatable and that makes it Really Hard to actually place myself anywhere on it. Which I guess isn't strictly necessary, there's not anything I'd learn about myself by finding a specific label in this case. But i do so enjoy having names for things.

-Wesker enjoys spiders and snakes.  They’re the only animals he would ever consider keeping as pets-- in fact, in Raccoon City he had a Brazilian black tarantula named Neith, who lived to the ripe old age of 19.

-He’s an excellent cook, and will absolutely prepare elaborate meals for himself for no reason other than because he can.

-He does yoga, pilates, and tai chi.  He also practices several forms of martial arts.

great question! jack/nico wise: my current fixation is the oft-mentioned mail order farmwife au set in the 1880s, as well as a half-baked actors au riffing off this lovely fic. i've added the appropriate fic tags to this post for your perusal as well!!

throughout the past year i've cycled through a couple other ideas that have held my attention for various periods of time: retirement fic, ranger jack, a ski instructors fic that i started last year and haven't picked up since, and then a few random chatfics i've tossed back and forth with lil. i'm definitely missing Many of them but off the top of my head: tennis au, boy prince nico set in some nebulous medieval-esque universe, and like five hundred pwp fics that truly are just. not suited for human consumption.

-I apologize, this is going to be a long mini rant, but your blog is like a safe haven, and I’m interested in your perspective. What THE HECK happened to Near? This no-nonsense, methodical boy with the sassy smiles and the thrill of the game is one of my favorite manga characters, and the follow-ups just… butchered him. Like, the manga ended on a nice note, he’s L, doing his thing. And then the bonus chapter added literally nothing.

-I wondered if the point was to show that he came into his own as Near!L as he did the most unlike-L!L thing possible, but did we really need that? And then came the one-shot and I fumed. This millennial boy who grew up with the technology doesn’t have plans and contingencies for instances like that, for people being untraceable through the internet? He hasn't evolved? How is this his defeat when he never even tried? And he wanted to MEET this guy? That’s not like Near. That’s MAYBE L. -And it bugs me fiercely that he’s not wearing socks and that he’s ‘mean like the old L.’ And he doesn’t’ smile. Like... How? Why?! I’d thought maybe Obha highlighted his less active approach, but Near DID act when he needed to in DN, he was just passive compared to L and Mello, so that doesn’t make sense, and he was doing fine for a decade anyway. I thought maybe he’s grown bitter but if you’re gonna introduce that, you have to go a bit deeper! -So now I’ve come to think that Obha simply didn’t know how to handle Near and resent it, bc if Near were to be involved, a)he’d solve the case, b)it would detract from Minoru’s ‘phenomenal brilliance’ (like CALM DOWN THERE, NEAR, YOU BEAT KIRA, and you’re so impressed by THIS?). This wasn’t about Near, and so his character got screwed in the process. Same goes for the Task Force, ffs, "oh noes a death note what to do!" Idk.. sth? ANYTHING? End of the mini rant, and thank you for your time <3.

I think Ohba definitely is going with the notion that the impact the Kira case had on Near in the long run is a negative one, yeah.

I'm... pretty neutral on the development myself, but I think the way it is intended to read is something like this:

In the finale, Near realizes with perfect clarity that he himself isn't enough to be L. Previously, he'd been perfectly down to work with Mello but overall thought of himself as up-to-the-task. But realizing that he would have absolutely died without Mello's proactiveness leaves him with a feeling of inadequacy that continues to haunt him.

This shows up in a very minor way at the end of the main manga, when Near is eating chocolate in tribute to Mello - or channeling Mello, maybe? With Mello gone, he has to somehow become both of them to be equal to the position that has been thrust upon him.

And the first oneshot elaborates on this feeling.

It ends on the visual representation of Near feeling overwhelmed by L, in L's shadow, crushed by the burden of his legacy.

Small small Near surrounded by a ton of giant Ls of his own creation, having to be reminded that the name is his own now and that he is allowed to make it so - but Near isn't sure he should. Because being just himself, working his own way, almost lead to disaster.

The warehouse incident has not left him without scars.

And the 2020 oneshot then leans into that perspective on Near even harder - like, as much as I adore the long hair design, I think the intent behind it is to make Near look unkempt and unmotivated.

The idea is that Near has never regained his confidence after the initial Kira case, never had the chance to regain his confidence because there was no comparable case whatsoever - and thus more than being incapable by nature, Near holds himself back out of perceived inadequacy compared to the more active players.

So... like the choice or not, I think it is at least an intentional character progression?

It's been an absolute shit fucking few weeks for George Carys.

Classes have been kicking his ass half to Neptune, work's been understaffed and shoving him into 30-hour weeks, his mental health has been as bright as the fucking sewerage system in the shadow realm, and don't even get him started on that constant migraine that hasn't left his head since he first gained consciousness.

It's been downright exhausting.

He stumbles into the apartment at (maybe) 3am, completely detached from reality at this point after a rush at work, and drops his shit at the door.

He'll deal with it later.

(Or not. Probably not. He hasn't even had the energy to do the damn dishes for however many days.)

Moving around the hallways on pure muscle memory alone, eyes half-closed, he finds himself in the bathroom - reaching out to the makeup wipes he always keeps in the same specific spot, next to the sink, so he doesn't have to turn on the light for it.

Probably way too vigorously to be healthy for his skin, he rubs off all the makeup on his face, incapable of giving enough of a shit to check if he's actually succeeding in taking it all off.

His eyes are still half-closed (or fully closed, at this point, who fucking knows or cares) as he strips his body of all the elaborate accessories and clothes he'd worn for the shift - leaving them across the bathroom sink and floor in a complete mess that can be a future-him problem.

Shuffling out of the bathroom, ready to knock the fuck out until Dream wakes him up in time for at least a bite of lunch, George is forced to frown and pry open his eyes at the sight of a light.

It takes a while for his vision to focus, but when it does, he sees Dream sitting upright on their bed, back against the headboard, hands in his lap, kind face illuminated by the soft bask of their bedside lamp.

"Why are you awake," George grumbles, crawling under the sheets. It's comforting, to have the cotton against his almost-bare body. (It would be fully bare, boxers and all, but someone made too big a deal of it.) "It's late."

He uses whatever energy he has left in his body to keep his eyes open, staring up at his boyfriend beside him, who gives him a soft smile. "I was just worried about you, mon chéri."

George grumbles, turning his body to wrap his arms around Dream's waist. Dream indulges him, running a gentle hand through George's hair, massaging the top of his nape. "Sorry," George mumbles.

"Don't apologise," Dream answers, bringing his other hand to George's jaw, turning his head to meet his gaze again. "Really. It was my own decision."

"Still. I've got shit hours, and you have to deal with it."

"You're the one dealing with the brunt of it," Dream argues. His brows furrow with concern, something that makes George's gut churn. He hates that expression on Dream's handsome face. "You're struggling."

"I'm not-"

"You've been too tired to make your usual comments, Carys," he says, a slight chuckle beneath his words. "You don't even have enough energy to make instant coffee half the time."

George would argue.

If he had the willpower to.

Too lazy to fight it, George lets Dream pull him upright, leaning his head against his broad shoulders. George isn't complaining about the position.

"You've been working so hard, mon chéri. Too hard." Between them, Dream holds their hands together, tracing the lines of George's palms. "And I know that you don't think you are, but it's true. You're overworking yourself. You can't take on everything that you're trying to, even if you're capable - just because you can, it doesn't mean you should."

He follows the sight of their conjoined hands as Dream brings them up to his lips, peppering a kiss against George's knuckles.

"It's okay to admit you're struggling, Carys. It's okay to be vulnerable sometimes. No one is going to think less of you if you do. I promise."

There always is.

But the way that Dream is looking at him in the limelight, painfully kind eyes bearing into his soul... something in George breaks.

"I'll still love you just as astronomically much," Dream continues, gorgeous grin lighting up the room more than any lamp can. "So will Wilbur, and Niki, and Sapnap, and everyone else - we're all your friends, and we all care about you." He leans in, pressing a chaste kiss to George's forehead, over his bangs. (He should really get a haircut.) "The point is, you've got friends that are willing to take some of the load off your shoulders. And you deserve all of us; you deserve the world - let me give it to you."

He's expecting maybe a chuckle, perhaps a hum, at the very least a little bit of movement - but instead, Dream is met with dead silence. He pulls away from his boyfriend, just a little bit, to see George staring at him from behind thick bangs.

George's mouth hangs slightly open, hands gripping Dream's tightly. With his free hand, Dream brushes George's fringe away from his face ever so gently, fingers moving with the caution of a silversmith handling the most delicate mineral.

And in the bask of soft comforting light, Dream gets to see a sight - the eighth wonder of the world.

On the high of George's cheekbones, a red spreads across the pale skin - blending into the outer corner of his eyes, and painting the tip of his nose in a flush. His brown eyes are blown wide, now, despite the exhaustion; lips just barely ajar in utter astonishment; brows leaving their usual scowl to house soft shock instead.

George Carys is blushing.

And he blushes adorably.

Dream doesn't even think about trying to stop his grin. "You're blushing."

"I-" George releases their hands in a hurry, averting his gaze and pulling away from Dream's grasp, hair falling right back over his face again. "No I'm not. I don't blush."

diff anon. piggybacking off the other ask though--how fans think the church of seiros is a parallel for catholicism baffles me, as an ex-catholic, bc aside from a few aesthetic things (consumption of flesh/blood of a "jesus" figure, relics, etc.) none of these actually align in any way w/ how things are actually used in catholicism (Seiros isn't treated as a "child of god" figure but as an important historical figure and founder of the church, the "consumption" of Rhea's blood only goes to the most devout of the church or people she tried to save like Jeralt, and isn't a ritual in normal worship not even symbolically; the entire thing with the relic weapons isn't even that they're body parts of saints but an elaborate cover story of how they were divine gifts, which Rhea had to construct after defeating Nemesis bc of the state of the world at that time; so on and so forth). the portrayal of the 3H church reads more like occidentalism, in the sense that it borrows the aesthetics w/out actually using (and therefore is incapable of adequately critiquing) the actual source material. like, believe me I'm suspicious of catholicism and love a good fictional critique of catholicism, bc of bad experiences, but the church of seiros just...doesn't have any actual parallels to me personally. Cyril and other children aren't forced to partake in church activities or required to follow the faith despite being under the church's care, there's a severe lack of the "if you're not this then you're guilty and going to hell, and even if you are you should feel guilty bc you're human and inherently sinful" teachings/mindset, aside from a few statues tucked far away from easily viewed areas there's no iconography (all the stained glass in the in-game church are abstracted patterns, which is Very Much Not a catholic thing to do to a stained glass), like I could go on and cite more examples if I wasn't tired atm, but the church of seiros just doesn't seem that catholic-coded to me. like, yeah there's a few decisions Rhea makes that don't sit well w/ me (executing insurgents from the western church w/out a fair trial or any sort of investigation which MIGHT have led to TWSD's involvement being the main thing I can think of), but like she's a hell of a lot more sympathetic of a character in the long run, and despite all the pope jokes is the least pope-coded character I've seen in a fictional religious position. I mean this is just my personal impression and I get why some people just balk at any fictional religion that seems vaguely christian, but the general resentment towards a fictional religion led by a fictional woman leading to a shitton of antisemitism and frighteningly aggressive fandom behavior is really disconcerting, esp. this long after the game's release.

And thanks for all this insight, I was raised Lutheran and even then, my family hardly had any time to go to church to do anything, so all of this is interesting to me. And from what it sounds, yeah, besides like certain aesthetics there really isn't that much connection between the two.
