I truly can’t believe I have to say this but I am so so sick of some people my age (namely those who are tiktok users, and therefore are deeply influenced by “woke” stereotypes about queer people and queer identities that are often perpetrated on that site) telling me that it’s weird to talk about growing up as a female or about experiencing sexism because I’m not a girl? and that it either “makes it seem like I’m not really nonbinary” when I talk about my connection to girlhood or that these things “shouldn’t concern me.” because they very much do and that’s such an ridiculous and inconsiderate thing to say.

I was afab and whether I wanted it or not I was treated like a girl and experienced childhood as a girl. I am not out to many people in my life and in their eyes I am a girl.

as a nonbinary person I still experience and feel very connected to my girlhood and the solidarity that I have among girls and women because of shared experiences despite not often identifying as girl myself. this is because of many factors including socialization, oppression and personal identity. truly can’t believe most people I know (and quite a lot of people online as well) still don’t understand that the oppression I have experienced as a queer person who was afab and the oppression I have experienced being seen as a girl are interconnected and that we have to address multiple layers of discrimination simultaneously if we want anything to change. this is. not new information. I can’t believe people don’t get this.

lemon meringue is an earth pony. she has a pale yellow coat with her normal bright yellow hair. she has white hooves, snout, and haunches. her mane is long with two small braids on each side tied with green bows like her 2009 design. her cutie mark is a lemon slice with maybe a comb or something in front of it to show shes the fashionista of the group.

angel cake is a pegasus with lavender coat and blonde mane and tail. she doesnt have any markings but sometimes gets flour on her that looks like she does and she often forgets to wash it off. her cutie mark is a literal angel cake, with a halo and angel wings.

ginger snap is an earth pony, she has a light brown biegeish coat and a dark purple, like her 2003 ver, mane. in low pigtails and she still has her hat. her cutie mark is a gingerbread man with a gear in front of it. shes often wearing bandaids and bandages and such, bc noone is above slight injuries when dealing with heavy cookie-making machinery.

raspberry torte is a pegasus (but never flies, shes an athlete and despite what u may think, does not condone cheating) with a pale pink coat and bright magenta mane and tail. the tips of her ears are pale green as are her hooves and snout. she has a ponytail like her 2003 ver and wears her visor too. her cutie mark is a raspberry with. actually i cant think of anything that cld suggest her love of running and track. so uh. help. shes very cocky like rainbow dash but puts others down too instead of just lifting herself up she undermines others confidence and stuff but becomes nicer. dating lemon meringue cus i built this city.

plum puddin is a pegasus, she has a light purple coat and dark purple mane like her 2009 ver. she wears glasses like her 2003 ver and wears her mane in a ponytail with a plum hairtie like in 2009. she has no markings. her cm is a plum with ballernia shoes (forgot what they're called) in front of it. shes still nerdy and likes reading books, and gets along well with blueberry. shes a trans mare of fucking course. Duh.

sour grapes is a pegasus with a pale purple coat and her normal 2009 hair design. shes a fast flier. shes a standoffish mare and doesnt make friends easily and often insults people, but deep down shes a good kind person. her cutie mark is a bunch of grapes with a spiked collar or similar in front of it. she has bright neon green legs ears and snout.

lol been a While since ive bitched about Gender Feelings

sometimes i legit feel like ~transness~ wouldn’t be such an emotionally and existentially distressing experience if it weren’t for the fact that society* insists on separating every. fucking. thing. into Girl and Boy. 

Colors. clothing. general fashion/aesthetic. taste in music. favorite animals. hobbies. movie genres. lmao even music instruments omfg. dudes getting made fun of for playing the flute bc it’s Too Girly. girls getting made fun off for playing the trombone because it’s Big And Masculine and surely a wee little dainty lady is better suited for a harp, or perhaps, The Triangle. 

people bend over backwards to cram everything into neat Gender Boxes, and that’s the only reason, I think, why some people feel such a desperate need to add more boxes. more options. instead of having just two categories, add a third! a fourth! a fifth! mix-and-match if you please! 

and honestly, that alone isn’t SO bad, i don’t think, but the thing that really fucks it all up is the fact that Society uses a person’s perceived gender as a way of deciding how to treat that person. We expect that a man should behave This Way toward other men and That Way toward women. we expect women to be Like This with other women, and Like That with men. And because it’s such a deeply rooted expectation, people want so desperately for others to interact with them in a manner that affirms their gender, whether they’re cis or trans or fluid or whatever else. a cis woman is liable to feel uncomfortable if someone interacts with them in a way they feel men are interacted with. a cis man would get weirded out by platonic acquaintances who, perhaps, pull out their chair for them, or open a door and gesture politely for them to go inside. a trans dude might feel utterly gutted if someone describes them as a cutie pie. 

can you imagine if that shit was a non issue? If your gender didn’t influence the way strangers interact with you in an elevator? if your gender didn’t inform what kind of small talk a person initiates with you? If the way people interact with you didn’t serve as a constant reminder that the body you live in is at odds with the way you feel you were meant to be perceived??

i’m not even saying that i think transness would cease to exist under those circumstances. but i think it would definitely be a lot less painful. i think the prospect of having to live your whole life without ever transitioning wouldn’t seem like such a miserable fate. it wouldn’t make you wanna jump off a fucking bridge every time someone incorrectly assumed your gender. the task of coming out to everyone you ever knew wouldn’t feel quite so daunting. 

sometimes i feel like i hate the fact that there’s even a need for so many ~new~ words and concepts to describe people’s gender experience. like, i don’t hate that people create language to describe these things, and I don’t hate the language, but i DO hate the fact that it’s necessary, because it exists, in part at least, to ease the suffering and bring comfort to people who are constantly reminded that there’s no room for them in the two Big Boxes that everyone else fits into. 

if there were no boxes, there’d be no need to fit in anywhere in particular. and if there was no need to fit in anywhere in particular, people could feel free to simply exist and not feel pressure to either pretend to be something they’re not, or go out of their way to prove to the world that they are what they are. 

hate it. its exhausting. 

i dont fuckin care about gender or what words people use to describe me or what words i use to describe myself. i don’t need to be a ~man~ and i don’t need to be Not A Woman and i don’t need to be genderfluid or nonbinary or transmasculin. i literally just wish i was born more or less anatomically male. that’s it. that’s all! literally do not care about my ~pronouns~. literally do not care what assumptions someone might make about me based on neither the gender they think i am, nor the gender i know i am. my gender is about ME and MY comfort in MY body. it’s got shit all with what anyone else sees or thinks when they look at me. i mean yeah, it would be hella nice if someone could glance at me and know what i know about myself. but i don’t need to be devastated by the fact that that’s not the case. the two most important things i am are a writer and a musician and nobody knows that about me at first glance and it doesn’t kill me. so why should i, emotionally, require that people know i’m ~a dude~ at a glance??

I'll try to explain it:

I've always felt I wasn't a girl. One example is when we had to make girls and boys teams at school; I didn't want to be in the girls team but at the same time being in the boys team felt wrong too. When I was 14 I started to dress more masculine and for some time I thought I was a trans guy... But being called a guy or being gendered in general felt wrong. For me clothes don't have gender. Even I felt uncomfortable when people called me "princess", "cutie" and more words like that. For a lot of time I didn't know what I was.

Until one day when I was 16 years old (yes, a year ago) I found a website that explain what are no-binaries identities and then I find the term agender, in that moment everything made sense: I wasn't comfortable being viewed as a girl or guy, I didn't identify as either one of those or had any connection with thems; also I realized that all this time I was trying to look androgynous (I didn't know there was a word for that!) without knowing. Everything clicked in that moment. But now there was (and its still) a problem:

I can't come out to anyone in real life because people where I live are VERY close minded. And let's not talk about terfs (since two of my friends are terfs)

That's why early this year I wrote a shitty poem and with it I came out to the FF chat (C, Meg, Fran and Honey), and then I decided to come out here last pride month because I see everyone here as friends and y'all important to me. Idk when I'll be able to be out irl but for now that isn't so important.

luna grew up lower-middle-class in columbia w her mom and stepdad who were pretty great. her mom was a high school literature teacher so luna grew up around tons of books. she fell in love with reading and decided she wanted to become a writer someday.

her mom died suddenly when luna was 14. it was a huge blow and to this day luna gets nervous when people take too long to reply to texts n other little stuff like that, always expecting the worst. she also hates that she never got to come out to her mom, which in turn means her mom never got to meet the true her. her stepdad legally adopted her tho which was cool bc he’s great.

she came out as trans at 15 and her stepdad was 100% supportive and did everything he could to make her feel safe and comfortable. her friends were also chill about it and it was one of them who chose the name luna for her because she reminded them of luna lovegood and it sort of just stuck.

luna always wanted to be independent, especially after her stepfather started paying for her HRT, for which she was obviously grateful but also felt a bit guilty, knowing he was probably having to work overtime to support her.

she thought moving out and everything else would be a great source of inspiration for her writing but she’s completely blocked and it’s frustrating to no end. it doesn’t help that she has type II bipolar which she can’t treat bc no money & that can really fuck w her motivation. 

she’s currently working at a bookshop but is always on the hunt for whatever odd job she can find, so you’ll see her walking people’s dogs and babysitting or even writing other people’s essays for an extra buck.
