would love to ask a casual viewer/nonshipper what THEY think christopher is gonna be emotional about cause i can't think of anything it could be that doesn't have to do with eddie's current emotional state, which necessarily also involves buck's

I know this fandom hates anyone questioning the slow burn but if it *is* Ana that he's upset about then I do think that would be a nail in the coffin for Buddie, especially if there's nothing else to suggest Eddie's feelings

hmm okay not disagreeing with you completely but I have a few thoughts about all that

first i would be very surprised if chris said anything as explicit as ‘I loved Ana and I wish you had stayed with her and I’m upset (with you) about that’. I think it’s much more likely to be something like ‘I really thought we’d have christmas as a family this year, a real family’ which would allude to his love for Ana (and his and eddie's hang ups surrounding past xmases) but is also vague enough to keep everybody content

second i think 'nail in the coffin' is a bit strong if only because it's not like these next two eps are their last chance to leave that door open, or that they won't ever open it again if they don't do it now. like you can't really prove that negative ya know? and stranger things have happened (see nov 5 2020)

that said though i understand what you mean about the slow burn thing. if nothing changes we'll be forced to ask ourselves how slow is too slow. so like i said a couple weeks ago i do think they need to start hinting at potential feelings more seriously if they're doing this, and soon (although i don't think that can happen until they address the current issues between buck and eddie)

but that's why i'm hopeful! the door is still VERY MUCH open and right now it seems just as likely (if not more so) that they'll walk through that one as any other!!

This feels highly unlikely BUT whatever it's all fan speculation until we get the episode anyway so.... what if Chris is getting emotional because he finds out about the will? Kids getting that discussion with their parents ("you're getting older so it's time you hear that I might die at some point and won't be here anymore, so here's who you'll live with if that happens") is basically always traumatic, but paired with it being Christmas? Having lost his mom? Having not seen much of his Buck since *handwaves* everything? Maybe...

anyways that would be SO interesting! it would certainly play into what tim said post-4x14 about eddie still having preoccupations about whether he's a good father. AND it would be a really good catalyst for moving buck and eddie's story along

like you said, unfortunately it's probably unlikely, but it wouldn't be completely out of left field, so you never know!!
