My fellow Stancies, in these dire times I come to you with my take on this:

This is unimportant for our cause, I assure you. I will also now stop talking like I am leading us into a battle because I feel like it will take away from a few of my points.

I want to address this in format of Q&A with myself.

Has the official statement been made because of that Stancy script?

Yes. And no. I believe the statement was made because said script obviously elicited a response from many many people. The script drew attention, and since it is fake and people have payed for it the writers spoke up. They spoke up about legitimacy of any leaked script that doesn't come from them, and warned against paying for such items. Nothing in their words indicates that the contents of the script were entirely off-base, they do not discuss the contents. They don't want people being scammed with fake source material.

Do we have any reason to worry? Will the hate make them change direction just to cater to the loudest part of the fanbase?

Short answer - no. I firmly believe that Stranger Things is too big of a show with competent people working on it. They have set out to tell their story (maybe not from the very start, but from S2 they set on telling the story of the kids, the teens, Hawkins, Upside Down). They spoke many times that in S5 they plan on resolving all of the plotlines that remain. And they want to do it properly which is why we are going to wait a bit to get that final season. If they are currently set on Stancy happening I do not believe that twitter hate will affect them for two reasons: 1) they don't care for it and are likely aware that the loudest voices aren't necessarily the most numerous (this is imo true 99% of the time on the internet), 2) as I've said they already have a plan, and a reason why they wrote S4 (and S3!) the way they did (aka they're not in the business of catering to fans on any given plotline).

Should the script being fake dim our sparkle?

Fuck no. The fake script is still very very cool because it has shown a few things:

1. That someone relatively impartial (and trying to profit via scamming people) has decided to read that scene the way it was written. There is no proof that the person is anything beyond a scammer, or that they would have any interest in catering towards a particular ship. They wrote what they wrote based on what they saw in the scene (effectively telling antis that their take on scene is delusional).

2. It has shown that a lot of antis do not care for Nancy AT ALL. In fact they dislike her and just like her as a vessel for their ships, the moment she wanders away from their perceived vision of her she is torn apart. Misogyny is real and they've shown it.

3. The outcry and scandal it has caused among antis has been telling. It tells me that when they watch the scene and claim Nancy is portrayed as disgusted at Steve's idea of 6 kids they do not believe it themselves. It's an empty argument they use to discard the scene because if they don't use it then it threatens them and their ships/takes. IF they firmly believed that Natalia has portrayed Nancy as being disgusted none of them would have been screaming crying at the script. They would have said "oh thats obviously fake". But they didn't. Because they know that their take is not supported by source material, and that the script would not be directing that Nancy is disgusted at the idea. They exposed themselves

In the end remember that the writers for such a show will not be easily swayed. They do not depend on ratings and viewership! They have nothing to gain from catering to the loudest voices on twitter of all places. S5 is the last, it's a conclusion, they're not fighting to get renewed or get enough funds. They have anything and everything they need to tell their story. Not the story of crybabies being pissed on social media about their uwu fanon ship.

And we can still (and should still) enjoy that script and use it in edits, it's perfectly wonderful material of fanon. Why not use it?
