Join us at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), for two days jam-packed with tabletop gaming and all things adjacent. Whether you’re into historical wargaming, casual board games, RPGs, cosplay, or trading cards, there’s something for every gamer at Beachhead Tabletop Gaming Show. Try something new with free participation games, marvel at spectacular demonstration games, spot your favourite sci-fi and fantasy character cosplays, sit back and enjoy military history talks, grab a bargain with our many traders and retailers, and test your mettle in one of our tabletop gaming tournaments. Situated in the heart of Bournemouth, the BIC is a stone’s throw from hotels, restaurants, shopping, a multi-screen cinema, indoor mini golf, an aquarium, nightlife and loads more. Making a weekend of it with the family couldn’t be easier. The weekend of 10th and 11th February saw Fantha Tracks return to Bournemouth on the south coast of England for Beachhead 2024, a tabletop gaming event that occupies most of the BIC (Bournemouth International Center), bringing thousands of eager table top fans together for a weekend of gaming, collecting and socialising. Last year was Fantha Tracks first visit, a weekend so enjoyable that we simply had to go again and this year saw myself and Paul Naylor hit the road from the Midlands to journey down for another fun experience. The BIC is a sizeable venue for such an event, and perfectly designed for such an event to make the most of the space. There are tournaments, with big rooms given over for tabletop gaming and competition, while there are side corridors filled with tables and areas for RPG sessions to be run. The main arena was packed, with Fantha, No More Heroes Luke Coffey-Bainbridge and Joker Squad within the Star Wars area, joined by the events main guest Hugh Spight from Return of the Jedi. All around were dealers tables and a broad wargame area for gamers to get stuck in, as well as demonstrations of a variety of games including Star Wars Unlimited. [gallery link="file" size="large" td_select_gallery_slide="slide" ids="158058,158057,158056,158055,158054,158053,158052,158051,158101,158102,158059,158103,158104,158105"] While the event is a broadly focused show that encompases all aspects of the tabletop gaming experience, there is plenty there to interest Star Wars fans. Show organiser Pete Valinski runs the Entoyment Wargaming and Hobby Centre in Poole, and their stand was packed with fascinating products including a vast array of Star Wars products from Legion, Shatterpoint and more. [gallery link="file" size="large" td_select_gallery_slide="slide" ids="158060,158061,158106,158062,158064,158063,158065,158066,158107,158108"] A stroll around the show revealed plenty more Star Wars products on various stands, and upstairs on the Saturday and Sunday there were two tournaments with Star Wars: Legion on the Saturday and Star Wars X-Wing on the Sunday. Fascinating to watch, and as someone who has only dabbled, it's made me keener than ever to find a gaming group and get some gaming done. [gallery link="file" size="large" td_select_gallery_slide="slide" ids="158067,158068,158069,158070,158071,158072,158073,158074,158075,158076,158077,158078,158079,158080,158081,158082,158083,158084,158085,158109,158110"] One of the treats of attending events south of London is the chance to hang out and socialise with Joker Squad. An active and busy independent costuming group, fans who attended Celebration Europe last year and the remarkable success that was #CANTINA 2 will know of them, given their stellar efforts to bring their sets to the O2 stage, and here at Beachhead they made full use of the ample space given to them and encouraged kids of all ages to grab photo ops and feel a part of the galaxy far, far away. [gallery link="file" size="large" td_select_gallery_slide="slide" ids="158096,158095,158094,158112,158097,158098,158099,158111"] Fantha were fortunate enough to have a great spot on the show floor, with our banner standing beside our table which was half given over to myself posting news to the site and socials and Paul scooting around to grab images and oversee a really fun deck of cards to tempt passers by to have a go at Play Your Cards Right, with a few sheckles thrown in for charity. Next to us was Luke from No More Heroes (who you'll be able to hear on a forthcoming episode of Making Tracks) and Andrew and Paula Mortimer who visitors to Farthest From will know well from their tireless efforts at that venerable show who were running the games area. It was cosy, compact, friendly and a heck of a lot of fun, the perfect change of pace from the larger Star Wars areas Fantha often get involved with and a great way to kick off the events calendar for the year. [gallery link="file" size="large" td_select_gallery_slide="slide" ids="158088,158091,158092,158090,158089,158093"] It may not be positioned as a Star Wars specific event, but don't let that fool you; Beachhead definitely has Star Wars in its heart, and we've already pencilled in 8th - 9th February 2025 for our third visit to the south coast and an event that is as friendly and welcoming as the team that run it. Grab some dice, book a room, put BH2 5BH in your SatNav and we'll see you there. [amazon box="0593723090"]
