BEACHING.

Beaching is a term where cetaceans drive themselves onto shore and usually cause fatalities or even death.

Some causes of this can be following the leader of the group, the matriarch.

A group of whales will not leave behind the matriarch even if they can escape the situation.

Another reason could be confusion from navigation or false echolocation which can lead a pod onto shore.

The last reason could be the urge to commit self die

The reason why these animals die is that their skin dries out and their organs collapse under the weight of gravity, causing them to die.

Orcas run the risk of beaching when they attack seals on the shore, but are highly trained by their mothers or any other family member. These beachings are intentional.

Pilot Whales Ground in Scotland

Pilot whales have died on a mass stranding in Scotland, over fifty including infants and pregnant females. Marine wildlife rescuers along with police and the coast guard were called to Traigh Mhor beach on northwest Scotland on Sunday, with reports that dozens of whales had gone around there.
