New piece featuring a beautiful chalcedony(?) Bat I picked up at a local store. "Flower Bat," 2024, bead embroidery, bead weaving with gemstones, resin, glass, metal, nylon, and leather.
Another stitch guide for those of you who are interested. Threads used for this project were a few different thickness wool yarns and a couple different thicknesses of cotton warp thread (for weaving).
I made these two bead embroidered brooches back in April, for the Autumn Festival time here. I'm really happy with how they turned out. I love the colours and shapes.
and 50+ hours later, it is done! Thank you to everyone who followed the process, this is the most ambitious project I've ever done and having kind friends to follow the journey really helped <3
Especially thank you to: @dirty-bosmer @lucien-lachance @thequeenofthewinter @kookaburra1701 @throughtrialbyfire @its-christmas-probby @ladytanithia and @letuce369
Choices have been made (but at this point I’ve committed to doing the rest of the new masks too, fully realizing that there’s a good chance this dingbat is going to appear with antlers come May.)
backstory: I am tall and the sleeves on many of the jackets I have are too short, so I wanted to buy sleeve gloves….then! I miraculously found some similar ones at home but they looked a bit dull for me, so I started with just the crochet additions…. however knowing me, it couldn’t just end there because I have never been a minimalist so I added the bugs :) 🪲
anyway I just thought I’d share this because maybe before you buy something new, look around for things at home and reuse them. or at least try give them new meaning. upcyle things.
This one comes from a place of deep frustration. I don’t know why I tend to start really tedious projects when I’m in that mood, but I do usually feel better when I’m finished!
This is the Tūī that Gordon tamed and taught to say ‘Virgil! Virgil! Virgil!’ :D He’s sitting on the one harakeke plant (New Zealand Flax) Grandma has managed to keep alive on the Island 😁
This took me all day to glue and edge. Did my threads continually get caught on the flowers? Yes, yes they did. Am I a little less sane than I was this morning? Possibly.
Fun fact I make sure I take screen breaks throughout the day and work on something traditional. Lately I've taken up embroidery, as once I get the lines on the fabric I can just go.
So naturally the next step was to get some tiny beads and incorporate that into my work. This has been a month long project in the making, inspired by Pink Agate Geodes :>
