Boots
1865-1875
United States
The prevailing fashion for long skirts in the 19th century and the general importance of feminine propriety encouraged rather limited decoration of contemporary ladies' footwear. While ornate bows and embroidered vamps are relatively common on evening shoes, heavy soled walking shoes , like this pair of button boots, were seldom ornamented with anything more than a simple bow or buckle. By consequence, the presence here of an elaborate machine-embroidered design covering the entire upper is of particular interest. The beaded cordwork was applied over the embroidery, presumably by the wearer, to increase the decorative program even further, perhaps for a special event for which it was not possible to purchase shoes specifically.

I'm now at 514 pieces of embellishment (rhinestones, studs, beads) on this baby, not counting the rhinestone trim. Moving on to the front!

I made some silly bracelets to geggsessorize
making the geggs involved ordering wayyy too much wool, 5 broken felting needles, and several stabs to my fingers. the spirit of revolution is within them, they fought me the whole way. good

Replacement pillowcase: FINISHED.
I went with the hand of glory for a motif because it was thought to paralyze or put people to sleep, and what's better for a pillow?
This is the most beading I've ever done in a project and it was really satisfying.

The rhinestone trim though? A real nightmare. Hated it. Tedious. Awful.

It's finally finished! I've been working on this fabulous monster hunter monster on and off for years but finally it is completed.
The articulation is a bit less than many of the dragons I have made in the past, but it does have the new innovation of including crystals as well as glass, the ridge on its back is made of carnelian.
