"The Banshee is really a disembodied soul, that of one who, in life, was strongly attached to the family, or who had good reason to hate all its members. Thus in different instances, the Banshee's song may be inspired by different motives. When the Banshee loves those whom she calls, the song is a low, soft chant, giving notice, indeed, of the close proximity of the angel of death, but with tenderness of tone that reassures the one destined to die and comforts the survivors; rather a welcome than a warning......."

find the word tag game
thank you to @saintedseraph! i'm tagging @interroblog, @ijustwritehonestly, @trixies-show, @italiangothicwriteblr, @meerawrites, @wintherlywords your words are: breathe, sunlight, grief, rain my words were: dark, light, dawn, and dusk! DARK
"After that, I didn’t dare cry. I squashed down all the messiest of my feelings and emotions and sequestered them away. It was not easy, but neither was the heartache. So, I kept them all in a safe, dark place within myself. It was dangerous to possess feelings, so I didn’t. I’ve come to believe that there is something dark, something inherently wrong, that lies just below the surface of my skin. It permeates the lining of my organs and chokes them out until they are cancerous, calcified relics of the little laughing girl I barely remember." - bean sidhe WIP
LIGHT
"It was quiet when they stepped outside. With its enormous green rings, the larger-than-life moon took up much of the sky. On the opposite horizon, the first tendrils of sunlight were peeking over. It cast the garden with strange pockets of both shadow and morning light. There was still a chill in the air. V was correct—it was a peaceful place to think and have the opportunity to soothe her fears." - Earth Enduring
DAWN
"In the dawn haze, his form looked more human than ever—more like her. Hannah pinned her focus to his furry, ridiculous ears and used them to ground herself. He might be different from her physically, but he still understood her human need for presence more than platitudes." - Earth Enduring
DUSK
SHOCKINGLY, nothing for dusk

Back in high school, I spent a lot of time in the library (Shocker! I know.) and they had a series of books about folklore and magic and such, and they were kinda in that 'Time Life Mysteries of the Unknown" books.
In one of them, I remember coming across a bit of banshee folklore that according to some people, a banshee's scream could put some people to sleep for a very long time.
I have ALWAYS wanted to use this in a story as a means of sending a character to the future, a la Rip Van Winkle, except for one problem.
I've never been able to find the book again, or even any mention of any such folklore on the internet, because I both don't trust my memory to have gotten that 100% correctly, and I also want the coroboration, because that is such a little known bit of folklore, if I'm even remembering accurately!, that I want to be able to point at a source and say see! I'm not just pulling shit out of my ass!
And I know, it's my world, I can make shit up if I want, but I do also love using actual bits of folklore, the more obscure the better.

Out of my own stupidity or otherworldly compulsion, on my walk home in the dark i had uttered a name in a whisper and i don't think i want her attention. So i may wake up to the scream of the queen of the béan sidhe in a couple hours or in a couple days. Who knows. Talk about crossing the veil enough, someone is bound to reach out a hand sooner or later.
ah, well. if she be one of the kind ones meant only to warn, you need not worry of her song, it will only come if you need to hear it. if she’s one of those that brings misfortune with her keening, a dip in a stream at noon will do wonders to wash her downstream. make sure to wear the same clothes you had on when you whispered to her. leaving a few sweets by the bank wouldn’t hurt either.

Sketch - Bean Sidhe
A commissioned sketch featuring the Bean Sidhe (Banshee), the wailing spirit of Irish folklore, just in time for the spooky fall season.
This one was a lot of fun, and I was able to really try some new drawing experiments.

Does anyone have a history of a death omen such as a man in black or a banshee/bean sidhe et cetera?
I'm interested in puttering around in some research on the death experiences of my family members and I want to see if others have had a reoccuring figure.
I want to look at the brains experience dying and folklore and how the two mix together. I like the idea of folklore explaining a scientific phenomenon that we never had an explanation for. But I'm also curious if there's anything culturally hidden within these figures that appear and their timing etc.
For my grandparents experience both were die hard catholics who never spoke of death period and were not together when they were dying. But both of them reported the same man in a very nice two piece suit and hat- all black. Sitting by their feet or on the porch with them silent and patient waiting with them. Never making a sound just watching.
My grandfather died within hours. My grandmother died within a week.
The figure could line up with some family figures too which is interesting but there's never been any discussion between anyone on anything.
I love a good mystery especially when it crosses over with the sciences.
What are your family stories??

Cartoon Saloon's star wars short is prob some of my favorite material in a while; the call to the dark side not as seduction via power, but escape from a crap life and the means to take control of your destiny. It's a sad tale, because Daal believes herself to be entering a better life, but odds are life with the Sith Mother will be a miserable lot where she lacks even less control than before. Anyways who do I have to whore myself out to to get a feature film about Daal and her path down the dark side
