14th Dec., 2287
We spent most of yesterday following the tracks through several rocky ravines. There were small pockets of muddy slopes or patches of dead grass between the cliffs. I've determined that we were somewhere northwest of Lake Quannapowitt where the railway came to a complete stop. They were buried beneath tonnes of debris such as fallen trees, medium-sized boulders, blocks of broken concrete from the nearby elevated highway & tonnes of dirt. After closer inspection I came to the conclusion that the obstruction was most likely deliberate.
South of the blockade, we had passed a derailed military shipment with an opened security cage & empty explosives crates all around. I think the tracks were covered to trap shipments & loot their cargo.
Near the blockade on the railway we found two seperate shacks, both showed signs of habitation in the last few months. Crossing the ravines were bridges constructed in similar fashion.
Today, me & Ada continued to investigate similar buildings in the vicinity because their make made me suspect the Raiders were active in the area. On the other side of the highway we found a series of shacks & those were inhabited. We met heavy resistance despite having the higher ground, mainly because they had plenty of grenades. I panicked when I saw one of them with a M-42 Tactical Nuclear Catapult aimed at us. The same guy wore a power armor frame with metallic scrap bolted to it. He finally stopped moving when I applied a sledge to his helmet.
Ada's limbs were severely damaged during the encounter to the point I had to carry her across my shoulders. It wasn't these people that blocked the railway in the first place but I'm certain that they had looted their explosives & power armor from that train.
We travelled back south to locate & check the last shack that Ada had been able to spot. I approached the shack with the minigun in my hands & a grenade within reach, not taking any chances. Poor woman stumbled backwards into a chair, under which her mutt had already scrambled. She was just a simple farmer that had left a settlement behind to dedicate herself to reclaiming the skills of growing crops. I was relieved that she accepted my apology.
I asked the farmer about the surrounding area but she didn't have much to say. The place suited her fine without others, people or anything else, residing nearby. She pointed to the only point of interest in the area & by that I mean the woman pointed at a few large objects that shone bright in the sun.
Downhill from the farm, parts of a crashed airplane jutted out of the ground. There were plenty of skeletal remains of the passengers around the place. Some still strapped in their seats. I located the flight data recorder & listened to the final recordings. I wanted to pay my respects, offer all of them a proper burial but Ada was there to talk me out of it.

Anime-nostalgia. I suffer from bouts of nostalgia once or twice a year, often in relation to boredom, when I just wanna revisit something I discovered and enjoyed years back. This spring it’s been honed in on anime specifically. Last time I got a bout I actually ordered DVDs of my top favourite animes because there’s no site nor service that provides all of them (with both subbed and dubbed options).
I was recommended Trinity Blood based on the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. This anime has a similar art style with more impossible hairdos and clothing designs than most anime, all under a heavy gothic theme that I really enjoy. Cardinal Sforza, and the Vatican overall, reminded me of High Inquisitor Whitemane of the Scarlet Crusade and their Scarlet Monastery from World of Warcraft, where was among my favourite parts of the original release of the game.
I also enjoy the kind of cyberpunk or forgotten tech nature of the setting, similar to Warhammer 40K as well as the minor addition of varied superpowers among the Methuselah. And thanks to Neon Genesis Evangelion I really liked the heavy Christian symbology strewn throughout the series.
This time around I watched it dubbed in English and actually read up on the original story a bit. Although the anime generally follows the same story line from the first episode, it progresses very slowly until the last few episodes when the watcher is overwhelmed with new characters and plots. And now I realize that they leave out a lot of important details that I never grasped when I first saw the series nor could have understood without looking up a Wikipedia or read the manga. This doesn’t tarnish the anime but rather feels like a missed opportunity.
If you like vampires and/or gothic stuff, I’d offer you this anime as a recommendation!
Art by Thores Shibamoto.
MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD!
Most characters are kind of flat or very predictable or not featured enough for me to have someone to root for other than the organization as a whole. But I was surprised and appreciated the development to learn that our dark brooding protagonist and cheery antagonist once held each others roles in the overall story of this world.
Like most anime, this one has an unsatisfying ending with an open cliffhanger. But it also ends very shortly after we start to learn part about the real underlying story of it all, and the motivations of some of the central characters. It leaves with a bloodied tooth (pun intended) but more along the lines of an evening of googling about the story rather than wanting a second season or a follow-up movie.

I’ve struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. Looking at pictures of myself as a kid I don’t see an overweight child but I distinctly remember being larger than everyone else my age. Even when I’d lost a lot of weight I never felt or saw myself as anything other than fat (and all negative connotations that means), but I’m getting ahead of myself. Over the holidays I re-watched the ‘Lord of the Rings’-trilogy, as is tradition in Sweden, and the sight of the uruk-hai did something to me. I’m hesitant to call it motivation, even though that’s the most apt description, because it was different than what motivation usually feels like to me. More seething rather than energizing. As soon as I got home I went to the gym for the first time in a long time, without thought and without a real plan, which felt somewhat awkward when I got there. That was almost a month ago and now I’m closing in on “weighing day”, meaning I’m anxious. Going through this journey, again, and doing it publicly initially feels stupid because I’m setting myself up to feel even worse about it, but at the same time I feel like I might be able to find some motivation in the exposure.
I started this blogs a few years back when I began one of my many failed attempts at weight loss, establishing healthier habits and learning to love my body but never got around to actually publishing anything. Another year or so later I posted some food pics and descriptions to share with some intern(et)ational friends.
But this time I wanna pull through and accomplish what I set out to do, both with this blog and with changes to my body and lifestyle. On this blog I’ll write about the journey, track my progress, write more in-depth about my experiences about being overweight and, of course, more food and drinks!

I cannot fully recall how I came across Li Ziqi’s YouTube channel other than that it wasn’t at all what I was looking for. She (alongside her partner, I believe) make videos that center around cooking and sometimes handicraft with traditional ingredients and techniques to the Sichuan province of China. Their home, kitchen area, tools and container are in majority traditional stuff and non-plastic which really plays into the *LARP:er side of me. Quality and editing is top notch and the music most of the time really adds to the ambiance. It gives me the feeling of majestic or tranquil nature movies, so even worth a watch if you’re not gonna try a recipe or technique out.
*I’d totally pay money to go to a LARP set in such a kitchen/house with similar stock and just cook for a weekend. One-and-a-half or so years ago when I first watched her content none of the videos had subtitles and the Chinese characters were most often so complex I had no chance to try and find a translation. Sometimes some kind people in the comments would clarify things, like what some ingredient was. Today, however, over half of Li Ziqi’s videos have been subtitled (with varying accuracy I suspect) that actually makes it possible to at least mimic her cooking.
So far I’ve only ever tried 3-4 dishes based on her videos, but cooked some of them several times in attempts to make them more genuine to the source material (with some hard-to-get ingredients) or just because I really like food. The list of things I want to try my hands on is long and grows longer with almost every video she releases, so expect to see her mentioned more in the future.
Go, give her a watch. You’ll be hard pressed to not enjoy yourself!
