yes i have!! given we're so early on they're all subject to change (and i haven't chosen one for lena given we don't know anything about her Whole Deal yet) buuut

sam: common raccoon

he really strikes me as a cute, fluffy sort of mammal. i chose raccoon for their curiosity and intelligence, and tendency to get into places they maybe shouldn't be.

alice: great blue heron

this is one of those "entirely vibes based" choices. she feels like a bird to me, and her shapes feel sharply-angled. great blue heron struck me, and i vibed with the design so much it cemented pretty quick.

gwen: lesser sooty owl

given the bouchard connection, i wanted to make her a tytonid (tytonidae, the barn owl family, separate from all the other owls which are family strigidae) given elias is a western barn owl. i chose sooty owl specifically for visual/design reasons, since many tytonids just look.. almost exactly like western barn owls, and sooty owls are quite pretty.

colin: northern pike

one thing you'll notice going through my furry choices is that, while i have a lot of lesser-represented taxa in furry aus like invertebrates, extinct animals, and strange birds, i don't have ANY fishes, at least not since switching martin back from being a nurse shark. that's sad. i wanted to choose at least one fish for the tmagp cast, and i think the northern pike, being a grumpy-looking, solitary animal worked well for colin. (also, i think a clearly carnivorous animal deadpan saying "i'm a vegetarian." is funny)

teddy: sloth bear

i just wanted to choose a fun bear for him. he's there for like three minutes. his name's teddy. Bear

celia: golden alpine salamander

for celia, i wanted to choose something that goes through a metamorphosis, as a reflection of her changing name/identity from getting her name stolen during the fearpocalypse. i chose a terrestrial salamander specifically due to the mythological connotations of salamanders being able to walk through flames unscathed, with her having escaped the apocalypse.

I don't think they would take her to the tower, afraid the others would try to take her away from them. The confines of their home is more than enough. I also like to think that reader is biologically their kid. Circumstances of how she came to existence vary, though.

But I imagine their encounter with kidnapping would be just an odd bunch of scenarios.

For example imagine Mama Diana downstairs, trying to fight the enemies, while you're upstairs, skipping around your kidnappers — Lightning McQueen bed long abandoned — mumbling some half babbles (a result of too much excitement for little you) that they couldn't at all distinguish, only understanding the rare distinguishable sentences "Tooth Fairy is here" and questiones like "Where's Jack Frost?" "Will the Easter Bunny like me?".

You had just finished watching Rise of the Guardians, and your mind is still so fueled with the plot enough to make you delusional and make you think that you'll also be visited by the Sandy and the other characters.

Of course, you soon realise they aren't the characters from the movie, especially wjen you saw that none of them were stout and shining, no bunny ears poking from their tuffs of hair, and definitely no frost on her window.

So, you invited them to a tea party instead. And surprisingly enough, they accepted, probabaly still suffering the aftereffects of being in your little presence. At some point, Diana had beaten all the enemies and reached your room, only to see you serving tea to the confused grown adult men who wrre supposed to be gone by now, with you in a sack or something.

Fortunately, by the time the kidnappers realised what's happening, Diana had already knocked out the kidnappers. Silently thanking that you managed to distract them by doing the usual, though peculiar things you do. Like talking to Mr. Sty the Styracosaurus, colouring your colouring book while babbling, inviting strange people to your daily tea parties :))))

Diana would dress reader in fluffy cute clothing that's very comfortable and breathable. She would also ask you for what you think is cute, but after the five dinosaur onesies, she decided her word is more than enough.

But that was with Diana Prince. With Batman and Superman, it's a few ways different.

First off, as Bruce Wayne's daughter, obviously you live in his home. And where may that be? Oh, you know, only the overly high tech Wayne manor with a complicated security system that was recently upgraded to become even better than the last :))))))

Honestly, the poor kidnappers wouldn't even be able to get pass the foyer before they find themselves captured by Batman himself. Just like that.

And you wouldn't even know. You would just wake up the next morning with Alfred serving you the usual dinosaur nuggets with ranch sauch on the side, not caring enough to notice the small differences made in the manor, because of obvious reasons. Dino nugs.

"Oh, I must inform you, Miss Wayne. We have five new. . . . servants in the manor. You don't need to be acquainted to them as their stay here will be short."

"That's great Mr. Alfredy Bear. By the way, did you change the recipe to the sauce?"

Superman however, gosh, that poor himbo. I seriously think he's the only one with a toddler who actually almost went with their kidnappers, but of course, on the one pricey condition that she receives the dino shaped sweets she saw on tv yesterday. Afterall, what Papa doesn't know won't hurt him.

Unfortunately, Papa did know. He was right outside your bedroom door, with two ice creams (now crushed into smithereens) in his hands, listening to you negotiate with your supposed kidnappers.

It would be an understatement to say that Clark was mad. No, he was fuming. Absolutely enraged to the point of almost going mental from not to the thought of his precious bean being kidnapped, no, but to the thought of his precious little bunny willingly follow men around.

So, don't be surprised at all when they opened your door to exit, only to be thrown across the room and through your bedroom wall, leaving angry little you in a white bunny onesie, human shaped holes in your wall, and your sobbing father dearest.

"Papa, those were my friends!"

top 5 favorite female sonic characters?

5. Marine - In this house, we don't put up with Marine slander. >:[ I've always liked her and found her legitimately funny, and I never understood why people give her flack for her accent and lingo, since you never see them do the same with Bunnie. Because rules for thee, but not for a Freedom Fighter.

4. Cream - Not just because she's always OP in gameplay... but it helps. She's a sweetheart, what else is there to say? Shame it took a while for her to gain a good voice... which we proceeded to rarely hear because she barely appears in games nowadays. ;_;

3. Blaze - The Silver thing aside (yes, I'm always going to be a grumpy bear about that), I still think she's great, and I really like her interactions with Sonic in the Rush games. Plus, she's a cat, and I like cats. ;P As someone who likes Blaze for her actual character, it pains me that SOME writers like her just because she can fight, implying Amy, Rouge, Cream, etc can't. This simplification is as much of a disservice to her as it is to them.

2. Tikal - She may not have had much screentime compared to others, but as evidenced with Cream, I always like a sweet character, and her design is better than every single Penders echidna. Also, she's cute. :>

1. Rouge - She's fun, she's intelligent, and her depth and overall good heart is frequently underestimated. You can tell this because fans who claim they know the franchise by the back of their hand like to portray her as an actual villain, which never fails to kill me inside. :D

Honorable mention to Helen, because of course. I've also gained more appreciation for Elise and Shahra recently; the former because of how mentally strong she is despite not being used all that well in the game proper, the latter because of her relationship to Qui-Gon Djinn, and because her relationship with Sonic is kinda sweet. I want to like Tangle and Whisper, cause I'm fine with the basic concepts for them, but the execution left them as a flanderized idiot and a nightmare face dispenser respectively. RIP to their potential.

Amy... you guys know where I've been standing regarding her as of late. The combo kill of IDW, Frontiers and Prime has really made it hard to remain enthusiastic about her for the time being, which in turn made me look back at her portrayals in the past, which I realised I would only consider a small handful of them truly A-tier compared to the selection for certain other characters (read: Eggman). Maybe in time, assuming she gets better portrayals, her spark can light up again, but currently... I can't muster it unfortunately.

Fluppy Dogs (1986)

Warnings: None! this movie is ridiculously inoffensive Why did you choose this? Magic pubbies... cute What is this thing? Fluppy Dogs is a childrens book turned 45 minute pilot by Disney. This aired on Thanksgiving of 1986 so, tis the season. Unfortunately, the ratings for the special were very low, and Disney decided not to pick this up for a full series.

The good! Multicolored puppydogs with magical powers? sign me up. This movie was before my time, but kid me would've gone completely wild. Look at them, they're so cute, even though their design is a bit samey across the cast. They could've changed the dog breeds up a little, but oh well. A friend of mine noted that they look way better than Pound Puppies, and he's right. This would've been preferable.

[apologies for this deep fried quality, but you get the idea] Also, I like the name. Fluffy + Puppy = Fluppy, it's goofy 10/10 The special was animated by TMS, so the animation is top tier, no notes. The soundtrack is nicely done by a symphonic band(?) It follows a lot of familiar musical tropes for a children's show in the 80's, but it was kind of nice to hear again, even if it gets a bit repetitive. The bad! You can tell Disney was aiming at a Care Bears ripoff and this is exactly it. There's nothing that makes the Fluppy's stand out. They make you fly if you pet them, and they go on magical adventures through inter-dimensional doors. Care Bears worked because they were more cohesive in their mission and powers. They fly on in and help kids with their problems. Fluppy's? they show up in our world and wreak havoc because they got lost going on a magical door adventure. There were points where this almost felt like a parody show from Saturday Morning All Star Hits, the way the Fluppy's made Jamie (our self insert kid protagonist) play hookey from school and messed up his house. They put it back together, but still. When Jamie tries to put his foot down, Stanley (our Fluppy protagonist) tries bribing him with "Well don't you like going on adventures, Jamie?" It really felt like Charlie the Unicorn. Unlike a lot of cartoon reviewers, I give one dimensional villains slack. They can have a purpose and be fun if done right. But this antagonist was a snoozeball. An evil rich animal collector trying to capture the fluppies. Tell me you haven't heard this one before. He had one relatable scene though:

Its smug aura mocks me. I do not like this. I signed up for puppies. Get it out of here. This may be my 90's kid-now-old experience talking, but I could never stand a character who's purpose is to do nothing but be disruptive. You don't see these characters anymore, and my working theory is that people my age are making cartoons now, and they couldn't stand them either. Rating: 5/10

It's a perfectly average 80's kids special, and perfectly harmless. It's made by disney, so zero risks were involved here. But the cartoon quality is high. You can (coughs) find a full version on youtube. I doubt it's being put up on Disney+ any time soon. But the 2017 Ducktales gave them a little shout-out, and I think that's very sweet.

Ya, I think I left enough characters out that my "ranking every 'mostly white + usually a cool color + maybe gold'" post warrants a part 2 (if enough valks of this design genre get released to warrant a part 3 though, I'm just gonna cry). Usual disclaimer that while I'm trying to be objective as possible about this, art is a very subjective medium and I am not immune to bias. Anyways-

S tier (wouldn’t change a thing)-

still not entirely sure if she belongs on this list because the black and white elements are pretty well balanced, but eh- we're here now

Forget just this genre for a sec though- Aponia has one of my favorite designs in the game

It's the skirt, it's entirely the skirt

I'm glad they kept the outfit mostly black and white (other than the bits of jewelry used to keep the outfit cohesive) because I think too much color would've just distracted from the skirt

I also appreciate they made the white fabric different textures. It really helps to separate the veil from everything else

The usage of vines and flowers to break the symmetry of the design is a fun nod to Aponia's failed attempts to control the world around her

A rank (minor changes needed)

I just want that front white shirt piece thing have a "light blue to white" gradient on it to better separate it from her legs

Otherwise, this design is a friend

Nice use of texture, I really like how the sleeves look like fabric dipped in ink where the ink is just gradually creeping up

I also just think it's funny that she's the jade knight, but her color palette is mostly blue, where as Azure Empyrea's color palette is mostly green

The red accents are also nice

I think from a more objective standpoint, this design would be in B or C tier, but it's my list and I like the design, so it's going in A tier

I'm also not sure if there's really enough white to warrant her being here

The bikini top and mini tutu are goofy (I think I'd personally just make the top a turtleneck crop top with a book window cut out, and the tutu into shorts and a fanny pack), but I kinda like them

There's just a lot of nice color variation in this one

D tier (for disappointments)

Getting this disclaimer out of the way: I am aware of the racist elements of this design. I am not SWANA though, so I don't really feel it's my place to go in depth on it (I'd be happy to link or reblog other people's arguments though)

Congratulations to mihoyo for making me sick of the color purple. I literally didn't know that was possible

I know she had a purple Hoody that one Manga, but I really with they went with a blue/green, orange, and gold pallet instead

The dance motife feels kinda out of nowhere? Idk if she has a love of dance in one of the Mangas, but it was never really mentioned in game before now

Also having Rita (the British lady) be the one to teach her a Persian inspired dance was... a choice

I could see a redesign going a couple different ways

One being really committing to the whole "it looks like a regular outfit" think, focusing on the changing roles of valkyries and moving more towards the aesthetics of APHO

Maybe have her story take place in her home country, thus why she could be wearing more traditional clothes (and have a grandma or someone like that teach her the dance)

My other idea would be keep the story the same, but change her design to be more of a throw back to early valks, leaning more into the mech suit idea

Ranking the Shrek/Puss In Boots movie villains

Those who know me know I love vilains ,and I was interested to see how the Shrek /Puss in Boots villains stack up .

Ones I am not including are Goldilocks and the Three Bear Crime Family cause in my mind they arent villains at all ,they are antagonists but they arent evil at all ,nor am I including the Poison Apple crew ,simply cause they are more henchmen then full on villains (If I do my favorite Shrek side characters ,Captain Hook will definately be on the list though )

First off I dont dislike any of these villains,they all have their moments ,but I am ranking these from least favorite to favorite

8. Jack and Jill-Puss In Boots (2011)

I love the concept,I have a thing for outlaw couples,Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris give enjoyable performances (ESpecially Sedaris ) and they have a cute running joke with Jack wanting to settle down and have a baby while Jill is all for continuing in crime . However while they are set up as the main villains ,they kind of take a back seat to Humpty Dumpty ,and frankly they are a touch generic compared to other Shrek villains

7.Humpty Dumpty -Puss In Boots (2011)

OK Humpty very much conflicts me because on papaer he is one of the most interesting Shrek villain ,basically being not only Puss's best friend but his brother ,but went down a far darker path.He feels like an outcast ,and resents Puss for finding his place as well as ,for in his eyes abandoning him,when in actuailaity it was a situation he caused and the only main villain to realize his own mistakes.He should be high up right?.....WEll the problem is while he is well written,I think Zach Galifanakis is SO miscast and I dont care for his performance .Also frankly....I HATE his design ,I'm sorry he is really unpleasent to look at ,he is very unsettling,

6.Prince Charming from Shrek 2 (2004) and Shrek the Third (2007)

PRince Charming is the only villain to be in multiple films ,and he frustrates me .....BEcause I cant put him higher.I love his concept, he is a vain Prince who feels he is owed his happilly ever after ,and in the third film he leads an army of villains to get that.I love Rupert Everetts performance who balances the dashing prince and petulent villain sides well.....My problem is ....He doesnt feel like a threat .See in Shrek 2 ,he is the secondary villain ,as his mother the Fairy Godmother is the main villain ,and when he comes back in Shrek 3, he has been so humiliated and hit rock bottom ,I kind of feel too sorry for him and dont see him as an intimidating bad guy . I

5..Rumplestiltskin- Shrek Forever After (2010)

I debated putting him higher,cause he is effective .A wicked deal maker who resents Shrek for saving Fiona before he could trick her parents into signing a deal with him .He's kind of fun and sinister ,and I am kind of fond of Walt Fohrns very odd line delivery ,his high voice is kind of afun mix of silly and kind of creepy .He isnt higher cause well he feels too similar to both the Fairy Godmother and Lord Farquaad ,just a bit sleazier .I think he is fun but not top tier

4.Lord Farquaad from Shrek (2001)

Farquaad is the first villain of the Shrek series ,and probabbly the most passive villain,he isnt as active as the other villains,but he plays well for the themes of the film. He is a guy obsessed with perfection and looks down on those who he sees as not fitting his idea of perfection,namely Fairy tale creatures .....Basically this guy isnt far diffrent then real powerful bigots. He is also highly entertaining with some great lines and is played wonderfully to hammy perfection by John Lithgow and I do think he has a great design.My biggest issue with him is the short jokes at his expense are kind of terrible and I dont think he is as interesting as the top 3 villains

3.The Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2 (2004 )

The person who makes happily ever aters happen and decides who they happen too .Pissed off that her machinations to have Fiona marry her son, Charming ,went wrong ,she seeks to find a way to get rid of Shrek .She is so wonderfully manipulative,Jennifer Saunders gives such a marvelous performance,she hilarious while also being intimidating.....Plus she gets one hell of a villain song with her cover of Holding out for a Hero

2.Big Jack Horner -Puss In Boots The Last Wish (2022)

Big Jack Horner is a crime kingpin/Pie magnet who seeks to find the wishing star to gain access to all the magic in the world .....Jack Horner might be the most unappologetically evil person in the Shrek universe.Where other villains at least try to pretend to have redeeming qualities ,Jack Horner is a vile monster ,who doesnt care who he has to kill to get what he wants,and he knows,he re4vels in how vile he is ....And it makes him so funny .I adore John Mulaneys performance, for years I have thought he would play a really good villain,and I was proven right .His designb is great too cause he has this intimaidaing hulking body and stuture but topped with this baby face and pink hair , I adore it . I also like that while the film full of characters who grow and change ,Horner is the one character who refuses to ,he litterally rejects the idea of a concience in the form of the Ethical Bug .He is a hilarious cartoony villain who was close to getting the top spot

1.Death -Puss In Boots the Last Wish (2022)

I struggled for a while over who would be number one between Death and Big Jack....But DEath wins.....Because he is the most personal and frightening villain in the Shrek verse to one of the main characters , because he is the embodiment of Puss's fears.He is the opponent Puss cant beat ,and the oppoenent every one must meet .I have hears some say he isnt a villlain....No ,he is.He isnt doing his job ,he isnt trying to teach Puss.....He WANTS to kill him,and is enjoying the chase .Its personal with Death ,Puss has mocked him and not valued life and he wants to SAVOR killing Puss .This might be the best example I have seen of Death as an advesaroy .He is designed beautifully,a red eyed wolf ,with the forma of a raven on his face ,weilding sickle and wearing a black hood,with WAgnar Moura giving a chilling performance .I also love his whistle which creeped me out everytime he showed up. He stands out among the Shrek villains,cause he is the most serious and by far the scariest .I condsidered leaving him off....But the truth is he is my favorite villain in the Shrek/Puss In Boots series

First of all I just love the way she talks! She uses words like 'squander' and 'sycophant' and aghh I love it. And this quote??- 'More good women have been lost to marriage then to war, famine, disease and disaster'. This is the line that first got me interested in her. Like... its extreme (Of course women can be married and still be powerful and amazing as hell) but there is truth to it and I love a mean old woman who's not afraid at all to say it.

Her HAIR. Its just perfect!! It looks so soft and fluffy and? the colour and the volume?? How??? It is iconic and I love drawing it, looking at it, thinking about playing with it... XD Its just great, alright?

How sorry she was about Anita's pregnancy 😅😅😅 Babe same. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if I got pregnant I would want people to respond the same way 😅😅😅 That's just personal thing, of course, I know most people would be happy to be with baby and wish to be congratulated but hey- that's why she's my f/o XD

Using 'clicks' as a measurement of distance? 💙 The fact that he calls himself a 'greedy old fart' as well as a 'cripple'? 😅

HE HAS REDEEMABLE QUALITIES. WHICH IS A NEW ONE FOR ME XD He respects his mother ('Mrs Bickerman wasnt a very good housekeeper' // 'Hey. That's no way to talk about the dead, son'), he is apparently against stealing (When a woman in Vs Anaconda suggests they take a boat he's very serious in telling her that doesn't belong to us), yes he was very creepy with that one girl in Final Chapter but he did not go to touch her at all which I think is pretty good compared to some other Englund characters 😅 as well as other F/O's of mine (Past or present), he was semi-nice to Max, etc.

His reaction to getting a gun pulled on him will never not be my favourite XD Like 'oh for gods sake, this again?'. And- you can see- he is almost laughing!

I think its been very well established by now I love characters that don't hold back. They're brutally honest- usually in a mean, cruel way. Cruella De Vil is one, Slenderman is another, and Otis is one too. Maybe I just like that I always have that option?; not the killing or being mean obviously, but that just being grumpy instead of forcing a smile on is there as choice if I need it. I used to go into a 'Slenderman persona' when I had an oral presentation in school?? 😂😂😂 Which just means I was able to be still. I wasn't worried about what anyone else thought cuz who cares what they think, 'I hate them all anyway' (Which was of course not true, it was just apart of the 'persona' 😅). Otis is a riff off of that time in my life, I think XD 😅 When I'm having a bad day nowadays and I'm still forced to be out and about I might start thinking a bit snarky like him 😅😅😅 I know, I have some off defense mechanisms.

ANYWAY- he's absolutely rot incarnate and that is why you watch the movies XD He's a like a train wreck. You cant look away.

And its not the actors real voice, either, I saw a video on Tik Tok of Rupert and he was talking completely different- then at the end abruptly PUT ON HIS CALLAHAN VOICE FOR A LAST LINE and ohhh BOY I was finished. XD

The fact that they made the character so much worse in the musical??? Like in the movie (Victor Garber ver.) he's kind of likeable at the start, making a joke or two to release the tension in his classroom- but THIS version is like crush grandma so we can get laid IMMEDIATELY!! G o d. I love villains. And he is a classic case of no-holds-barred, black and white, Disney Villain-esque, walks-off-chuckling bastardry and I love it.

Wild Megazord: 3/10

I got mixed feelings about this guy, I like that all the zords are super interchangeable so he has the range. Visually? Idk man this one’s kinda all over the place (I’m lowering the score actually from a 4 to a 3 after thinking about it some more)

Kongazord: 7/10

This guy has some good design. Not sure if I love that this megazord has the bison as the legs still but I mean the design of all the zords together is DEFINITELY more coherent than the Wild Megazord. Also the helmet and the black and white bear arms just looks really clean together cause they all have gold accents

Predazord: 7/10

Most of my love for this guy is nostalgia (if I wasnt nostalgic about him he would probably lose a few points) visually the vibe is there but the actual details are kinda messy. I wish the crocodile/wolf/hammerhead had a bit more cohesion with the colors cause imo they just stand out too much from each other. The wolf helmet and the crescent moon though? Top tier vibes, as weird as he looks now the Predazord is still kinda cool.

Isis Megazord: 5/10

the falcon zord is pretty cool (i remember this one using more zords that werent from the og megazord but I couldnt find a damn picture so) idk feels like the megazord designs got kinda lazy around this point and I also wasnt a fan that they only really had one megazord for the primary team. I’m like very neutral to this one

Animus: 7/10

TECHNICALLY hes not a megazord hes an actual god or whatever (I’m rating him as a megazord not as a character…) visually this dude is sick, the colors are super cohesive and all the zords look like they fit together instead of just being snapped onto the megazord haphazardly. Also this megazord takes a lot of the design issues I have with the wild force megazord and just fixes em. The (eagle?) is more prominent on the design, the bison looks pretty cool, the shark/tiger zords dont stand out horribly cause of their non existent gold accents like the rest of the wild megazord.

I’m getting off topic, in conclusion Animus as a megazord, pretty dope.

Maybe its just because I played Hades. But like...Nyx kind of set the bar high for celestial goddesses in my eyes. Azeyma hit the mark but I feel Menphina is overshooting the mark and causing an extinction level meteor crash on another life bearing planet. But there have been plenty of designs, I haven’t liked to start off with. Its the personality of the character that really has to sell it. Still Nyx design is top tier for celestial deities. Space Marine 2 is Gears of War on steroids, and a treat for 40k fans

40k Warhammer Space Marine 2 is primarily a third-person shooter and just secondarily a Warhammer 40k game. That's not to suggest that a sequel to the tale of Titus, a former Firstborn Captain of the Ultramarines Space Marine Chapter, won't be given to ardent aficionados of the universe, but if, like me, it means little to you, Space Marine 2 won't lose you in the minutiae of its lore. After playing an hour of Space Marine 2’s second level and having a chat with Saber Interactive creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick at Gamescom 2023, it became very clear to me that the team is aiming to strike a balance between doing right by longtime fans and people like me when the Space Marine 2 release date rolls around later this year. Hollis-Leick played Dawn of War 2 when it came out and has read so many Warhammer 40k books and novels that I imagine he has whole shelves dedicated to the series, but that doesn’t mean he’s not thinking about new fans. “How do we make it feel accessible to someone who’s got no familiarity with whatsoever?” Hollis-Leick ponders. “We worked with Games Workshop to relax some of the terminology where possible, to use more common terms to make this a little bit easier to understand. Also, I wanted to avoid massive exposition dumps at the start of the game about what Aterian is, what a Rubicon Primaris is, and all that stuff. While Space Marine 2 is not a cover shooter, instead opting for a blend of ranged and melee combat against hordes of enemies that you can tackle in up to three-player co-op, it will definitely appeal to fans of that genre. If you thought the jacked dudes, screaming, and gore of Gears of War was intense, Space Marine 2 dials that up to 11 while offering you a smooth blend of ranged and melee combat. Because Saber Interactive is leveraging its tech from 2019’s World War Z, Space Marine 2 will see you fending off hordes of enemies as they scramble over each other to reach your position, and when they do you’ll need to dodge roll, melee attack, and parry your way around the battlefield. Space Marine 2 is a delicate dance of off-the-cuff judgments, where your choice comes down to point-blank executions or chainsaws through the chest. “We felt that the story of a Space Marine cannot be told without that epic scale,” Hollis-Leick adds. “So there is a lot of sort of programming wizardry that goes into it, we have to be very efficient with graphics.” You’ll see swarms of Tyranids from hundreds of meters away bearing down on you like a flock of birds, only for them to push right up to your position and charge you without a second thought. Space Marine 2 is a successful exercise in over-the-top game design. You’re controlling an eight-foot-tall immortal man who likely weighs over 1,000kgs in armor, and you’re somehow gliding around the battlefield like an Olympic figure skater. While that might sound like it shouldn’t work on screen, it really does. The movement and gunplay are top-tier, and this is what makes it appeal to anyone who doesn’t know their Space Marines. The core experience of Space Marine 2 is so good that newbies won’t feel lost, but while big fans will definitely still get what they want. Series 8 Episode 5: Time Heist

YOOOO THEY DID A HEIST?? AND IT WAS IN TIME?? Hii everyone today we’re going to be checking out Time Heist. Does a heist episode work in Doctor Who? Let’s find out.

So this episode has a LOT in it for 45 minutes, but I respect that in this case. The reason is because we’re doing a heist, so you need to keep the episode at a fast pace to keep that heist adrenaline running through the episode. I do think the episode, especially near the end, has a tendency to get a bit over excited and rush past characters that could’ve done with a few more lines of dialogue, but bear with me because I’m about to gush about this episode and tell you why you should forgive it for it’s transgressions.

I feel like I don’t need to include the “yea 12 and Clara dynamic good” bit in these reviews anymore cause y’all know how it is by now, but yeah they’re still on top form and they’re up to their usual antics. What I do wanna say is that Saibra and Psi, our sci-fi heist buddies with cool powers, are introduced and used really well in this story. They clearly have their own defined wants/needs as gets revealed throughout the episode, and whilst Psi definitely conflicts with 12, it’s nowhere near as obnoxious as the Robin vs Doctor 1v1 in Robot of Sherwood and so the conflict feels way more natural. The dynamic works good job writers!

Another thing I want to shout out in this episode is just how good it looks? Despite them still being on a low Doctor Who budget, I’m sold so easily on the scale of the Bank of Karabraxos, and there are so many creative little camera shots in this episode that have me beaming ear to ear. Also that cushy private vault that Karabraxos has with all the little gems n goodies hidden about? Whoever designed that deserves a raise it looks great. In general, this episode is just produced so well, and it’s part of what sells us on its charm.

I also find the Teller to be such a cool villain idea. The ability to sense guilt is a great concept to work with when your heroes are trying to pull off a heist, and the brain-snatching aspect with the head dent thing? That’s top tier. I will say though they hype up the idea that trying to keep your mind blank is impossible in this story, but I did it along with Clara the first time she got got by it and I was weirdly good at it? I’m just gonna chalk that down to a me thing.

The only other thing that disappoints me here, bar the rushed ending that tries to explain everything in a very short amount of time (which is natural for a heist episode to be fair), is the fact that we don’t really get any character development here for any of our main cast. The Doctor took Clara on a heist that very nearly got her killed, disrupted her personal life again, and she didn’t even get a reward from the heist like the others. Yet Clara doesn’t call him out on any of this, and I can’t help but feel that’s a little out of character considering how frustrated she was last episode with the Doctor getting in the way of her date. But hey, it’s a standalone episode like Robot of Sherwood, and the heist pacing means there isn’t as much room for this kinda character conflict, so I can kinda see why this isn’t in the story.

TL:DR/Overview: Time Heist is an episode that is just so much fun. Seeing the Doctor and Clara team up with a crack team of aliens to hijack the most secure bank in the universe, I mean what a concept. The supporting cast are great, our monster of the week is a lot of fun, and the production on this episode in particular is very inspired. I do have a few gripes with how the ending is handled, with it feeling a bit rushed and therefore meaning we miss out on some important character work between 12 and Clara. Regardless though, this episode is plain and simply fun, and for that it deserves a very strong A tier.
