I genuinely can't believe that people read the whole Beastars manga and still think that Riz & Pina's friendship was unnecessary and came out of nowhere when the whole Murder Resolution Arc points in that direction:
Because Riz & Tem's relationship is meant to be a representation of everything wrong in Beastars. Their society fears conflict, so they try to avoid it, BUT they do it wrong.
Tumblr media
When the other boys of the drama club leave the school, Legoshi notices that carnivores and herbivores coexist and live together in peace. Later on, when they end up in the BAM, Bill tells him that they are happy BECAUSE of the BAM, because they can have a place where they eat meat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically, what Bill is saying is that carnivores and herbivores can live together and be in peace, as long as carnivores still have a space for themselves to show their real instincts. It is the same idea their whole society has: carnivores want to eat meat, so even if it is wrong, as long as they do it in a hidden place away from herbivores, the peace outside the BAM will remain.
Later, Juno comes up to a similar conclusion. Yes, the infamous "What's wrong with segregation?" For some reason, she's been criticized a lot for that lol, even though she's just saying what everyone else thinks is the right thing.
Tumblr media
And, even if she's wrong, her reasoning does make sense (from a logical point of view). She understands that predation cases reinforce herbivores' bad views about carnivores, and in consequence, it makes carnivores' lives harder. So, she sees the same solution Bill and society see: as long as each has their space, and as both sides hide the worst parts of themselves while being kind on the outside, they can maintain peace.
However, that doesn't work, and Tem's death is the perfect example of this.
Tumblr media
Riz believes that other animals like him just because they think of him as a "cute, nice bear". But the thing is, Riz doesn't want to be liked just because of his virtues, he wants to be liked completely as he is, to be accepted despite not being perfect. That's why, when he tells Tem about the pills, he feels happy: he has just admitted that he can be a lot more intimidating, and Tem offers to spend more time with him regardless. Riz believes that, since Tem already seemed to be fine with that information, then he would accept him and love him even if he saw him as he is naturally— bigger and stronger.
Now, of course, the execution goes terribly wrong, BUT, Riz's reasoning is actually right. The thing that can solve all their problems and make them all happy is to accept the other completely, with their flaws and all, and not just ignore that which they might not like.
In fact, that's exactly what Els does with Bill: she calls him out on ALL his mistakes, but she admits that, despite his flaws, he's a good guy at heart. She's not ignoring his wrongs, instead, she acknowledges them, and accepts him as a friend regardless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THAT is what Riz wanted. For someone to see him as flawed as he could possibly be, as dangerous as he could possibly get, and still love him anyway. Beastars is not the typical "oh, you're not so bad after all!", nor the "I guess we are not so different, huh?" NO. That's not how true acceptance works. Beastars is the exact opposite: it is "Yes, we are different, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to understand each other". It's a "Yes, you are flawed, terribly so, but that doesn't mean you're undeserving of love".
Tumblr media
Riz was happy when Tem pointed out he was scary and when he called him a monster, because it was the first time that someone, FINALLY, saw him as something more than a cute bear. Someone, finally, saw him as something else than perfect, and that is good! Because no one is perfect, because we are all flawed. The point of the story is to accept that imperfection is good, and is part of the beauty of life.
Tumblr media
Riz, in his fantasy, believed that Tem had seen him as monstrous as he possibly could be and had still seen him as a friend worthy of love. Unfortunately, what truly happened was that Tem, who up till then had never actually seen carnivores as a real threat, suddenly had to face what everyone else told him: that carnivores hide their true, dangerous self.
The big tragedy about their story is that none of them are wrong. Tem did exactly what society taught him to: be nice and friendly to carnivores, and they'll be nice to you. He just saw Riz as another classmate, another boy just like he was, not even aware of their differences.
But that's the problem with the whole Beastars' world: you don't truly accept someone until you know everything about them, and that includes the negative things. Ignoring stuff you don't like solves nothing. As Riz realized, the way to shorten the distance between carnivores and herbivores is to show yourself as you are, with all your virtues and flaws, and hope for others to accept you as such. You can't hide what you're afraid to show others because you don't wanna be rejected, because it will eat you from inside, and that's what ends up causing carnivores to lose it: the stress from trying to be what others want you to.
And that's exactly why Riz's headaches and side effects went away when talking to Tem: the pills are just a narrative device that works to show how, the more "likable" carnivores try to be around others, the more it hurts them. It's not a placebo effect, but it is only an example of how things get better when we just talk and listen to one another.
Seriously, if you paid attention to the whole story, you'd see that Pina was literally the only one who could give him the relationship with a herbivore that Riz longed so much for:
Pina, who knew that he ate Tem. Pina, whom he threatened more than once, Pina, whom he literally hurt just to get Legoshi mad. That sheep, who saw the worst of him, accepts him anyways, deems him deserving of forgiveness, and befriends him. Pina is what Riz always wanted: someone who could see him as a complete monster and love him regardless.
Herbivores' and carnivores' relationships are about taking that risk, accepting that things may go wrong, but trying to be better together anyway. Yes, Riz does deserve to be in juvenile because he made a mistake, BUT he also deserves kindness, and someone willing to help him, and Pina is the one animal that can do that for him. Just like Riz & Tem's relationship represent the mistakes most make, Riz & Pina's represents the way to do things better.

Oh! How about a Legoshi vs Louis rivalry romantic concept!
Sure! I actually haven't done anything for Louis yet surprisingly. I hope I get their characters right :) They act differently depending on Darling so I did what I could do.
🐺Minor Possible Spoilers For Beastars, Mostly For Louis' Character🦌
Yandere! Legoshi vs Louis
Pairing: Romantic - Rivalry
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Jealousy, Rivalry, Insecurities, Yearning for acceptance, Obsession, Overprotective behavior, Possessive behavior, Superiority complex, Mentioned stalking, Dubious relationship, Manipulation, Violence, Beastars society I guess, Licking/Kissing mentioned, Trauma.
Tumblr media
We know what Legoshi's yandere behavior is from his concept.
Legoshi is Obsessive, Caring, Overprotective, Impulsive, Patient, and Intimidating at times. Didn't mention this last time fully but he is Insecure.
His more feral instincts due to being a wolf make him possessive but he tries to fight his yandere behavior most of the time
Louis, an herbivore, is different.
He doesn't entirely have the possessive trait like a carnivore.... but he has some similar behavior.
Due to his character I feel he'd be an herbivore that tries to have an obsession like a carnivore if that makes sense?
He doesn't like to be vulnerable, he doesn't like to be seen as weak.
While he is friends with Legoshi, he'd feel he'd have to compete with him to gain your attention.
Louis is Charismatic/Manipulative, Obsessive, Overprotective, Caring, yet sometimes is Forceful, Possessive and incredibly Insecure.
Louis is a very deep character who has his own trauma. He's very critical of himself and sometimes others due to a superiority complex.
He'd probably want to be accepted by his darling, Legoshi is a similar way.
They two have had tension in the past and it may resurface if they both like the same darling, regardless of if they're an herbivore or carnivore.
Both yanderes are types who want to find acceptance in their darling, or some way to forget what they are for a while.
While both of them would act differently when it comes to what darling is, I'll try to keep it general.
A carnivore darling may make Louis more insecure and forceful while Legoshi feels a bit more comfortable.
An herbivore darling may make Louis able to open up faster but Legoshi will have the same issues he did with darling as he did Haru in the series.
They share a good deal of traits with each other as their characters are foils to each other.
You could've met both of them in the drama club.
Maybe you act or just deal with behind the scenes jobs?
Either way that's a good way to meet them at the same time.
Both yanderes are obsessive.
Legoshi is obsessive due to him over thinking when it comes to his darling.
He tends to over think a lot, it eats away at him.
Louis over thinks when it comes to his obsession at times.
He feels like he has to be perfect around you to get you to like him, that maybe you expect that like everyone else.
He wants you to feel he can be a good pick for you... that he isn't weak like other herbivores.
Louis actually has decent strength and carries a gun... so yeah, he isn't actually that weak.
Both yanderes are caring towards their darling.
Despite their insecurity issues, they both give their darling their all.
Legoshi wants to protect you and just be loving towards you, even if his instincts tell him otherwise.
Louis hasn't had proper care in his life, once he gets it from you then he reciprocates it in return.
He honestly just wants to be open with his darling at times.
Both yanderes are overprotective and possessive.
Legoshi is overprotective due to him feeling his darling is weaker than him. He's a wolf, he should keep you safe from harm... he should use his strength for something good.
Although, his overprotective behavior is closely intertwined with his possessive instincts.
Being a carnivore makes him overly possessive of someone he has romantic attraction to.
This can make the normally nonconfrontational wolf aggressive or challenging in rivalries.
Louis is overprotective because he wants to show he can not only hold his own, but also protect you.
Louis' possessive behavior is different than Legoshi.
He isn't possessive to the point it's feral instincts that control him, but he acts like it.
He wants to show he's better than carnivores... he wants to prove to everyone, including you, that he's so much better than them.
The deer is mostly just protective of you since he's seen the horrors of this world due to his whole past.
Both yanderes are insecure.
They both want to the opportunity to be open with their darling, they want their darling to understand them.
Legoshi wants to prove he's capable of being good for you despite his carnivore tendencies.
He truly just wants to find comfort in his darling and cling to it.
Louis is a similar way.
He wants to focus on just his darling, he's tired of having no control in his life.
He doesn't want the forced marriage... he always has to keep up masks...
He just wants to be open with you and only you.
He isn't weak... he never wants to show he's weak... but you can tell.
You're the only one in this case he can truly be "vulnerable" around.
Those are the traits they share... now here's their respective traits.
Legoshi is an impulsive yandere.
He's reckless at times, often due to his tendency to over think.
He'd mess something up with trying to court you then immediately regret it.
Like being caught stalking/following for example.
A fact Louis tries to use against him... in a way he wants the wolf to know his place.
Legoshi is a patient yandere.
Or... he would be if he wasn't in a rivalry.
He feels more rushed with Louis around so this trait is often ignored.
Especially when he realizes it'll be difficult to sway Louis' attraction away from you due to the deer's obsession.
Legoshi is an intimidating yandere.
Sometimes he means it, sometimes he doesn't.
He is capable of being scary, something Louis attempts but can't quite get right alone.
The wolf doesn't want to hurt his deer friend... Louis does not quite share the same sentiment.
Louis is a charismatic yandere.
This can make him manipulative due to his natural charisma.
He's shown he has the ability to be a leader.
Louis would be very charming towards his darling as he is very popular.
This could be considered an advantage he has over Legoshi, a much more reclusive wolf.
Louis can be a forceful yandere as an herbivore.
He can be intimidating in his own way, even more so if his darling is a carnivore.
He wants to be in control with his life.
Which means, in a way, he wants some sort of control with his darling.
Something Legoshi threatens.
Louis seems like he'd want to get in a physical fight with Legoshi while Legoshi tries to avoid it.
Although... if Louis challenges Legoshi's obsession, like saying you're better off with him, Legoshi will retaliate.
Louis would be better with charming you than Legoshi.
He'd be able to buy you gifts and say pretty words to you, he wants to keep up appearances and also slowly manipulate you into loving him more.
Legoshi is shy, he'd have a harder time.
There's times he tries, however.
It just comes out accidentally as him being forceful.
Then he apologizes again if he hurt you.
However, in terms of affection, Legoshi is better at it.
Legoshi wants to hold his darling and nuzzle into them, maybe even lick them if they allow him.
Part of him considers biting... but he holds back, despite what his possessive instincts tell him.
Louis has a harder time with affection.
He wants to hold you yet also wants to be held.
Louis would be possessive with his kisses when he does give them, but they're rare.
He feels hesitant to go full out with affection due to his past.
It just feels... odd to be vulnerable at times for him?
Yet it also feels right when it's with you.
I don't think they could kill each other, they also don't seem like kidnapping yanderes in this case.
They may get overly jealous and get into fights... but something prevents them from ending the other.
Even if Louis thinks of how easy it would be to pull his gun on the wolf... even if Legoshi wonders how good it would feel to tear into the deer... they don't.
Perhaps they know how much it would hurt you and stop themselves?
Overall, it's a constant game of courtship.
Many factors could determine who you go with.
Maybe you're into carnivores... maybe you're into herbivores?
Maybe you like the reclusive nature of Legoshi... maybe you like the bold nature of Louis?
Either way you'll pick someone in the end.
If one of them doesn't like your decision...
Then maybe they'll do something about it despite what you think or say.

So call me a furry but I picked up Beastars again after remembering theres a new season.
I'd watched the first one, despite being somewhat skeptical of the obvious furrybait, but ended up getting sucked into it by some oddly compelling element that I couldn't place my finger on.
Ye gods has my recent journey into sexuality and kink shed some light on why I enjoyed this show so much, even if I didn't realize/admit it at the time.
All the horny ass imagery about predator and prey animals, themes of sexual and emotional repression and just the whole dynamic of coming to terms with parts of yourself that may unsettle you has definitely struck me from a new angle this time around.
Not to mention the protagonist, I mean c'mon. Legoshi the melancholic sexual disaster bottom(?) who, despite being a good doggo, has that deer-in-the-headlights rizz and freezes up and whimpers when the 'school slut' undresses in front of him but somehow manages to unconsciously maintain a insanely homoerotic yet submissive sexual tension with the leader of the drama club (who is a stag 😍) for the whole first season.
Speaking of the stag, Louis, yeah definitely another closet bi moment there, 'nuff said. I like antlers, call it an occupational hazard 🫣
I swear I'm not a furry

So another Beastars AU/fic prompt idea that is kinda dark.
AU where Legosi doesn’t fully pass as just a wolf, when he’s young he develops komodo reptilian eyes, his mother not reacting well to this and while Legosi is defending himself him biting her... and it turning out he also got the venom.Gosha arriving to late to do anything.
Yafya hearing about it and turning up at the hospital after seeing little Legosi and Gosha. Him and Gosha reconnecting and the two raising Legosi together.
Yafya making sure Legosi knows how to defend himself as well as showing him investigation skills (When Legosi was little him having nightmares being unable to fall asleep and instead sitting with Yafya as the other explains his beastar cases to him.Gosha always freaking out because ‘YAF DON’T READ THOSE CASES TO HIM HE’S STILL A BABY DON’T SHOW HIM CRIME SCENE PHOTOS’)
Legosi ending up attending Cherryton cause they know they can’t home school him forever and he needs social skills. Legosi using glasses to hide his Reptilian eyes (Him being super selfconscious and being more reserved than in canon cause of what happened to him)  He ends up joining the gardening club because it’s quiet and becomes friends with Haru.
He doesn't actually meet Louis, though he knows of him, until Tem is murdered. Legosi goes full detective to try and figure out what happened and needs up hanging around the drama club interacting with Louis who doesn't know what to make of him, hating him because he’s a carnivore but also him not acting like he expects one to act and acting odd quiet and careful but also clearly ready to fight.
(Legosi figuring out the Riz thing much earlier as he knows from Yafya and is cases all the signs someones stopped taking the medication)
Louis still ending up as a Gumi boss and Legosi trying to get him back. Yafya not being happy about the bratty delinquent flirting with his kid... Gosha has tried pointing out with their past they have no leg to stand on but he’s not listening.

Cringetober Day 2
Prompt: Self insert
Prompts list by icryink here on Tumblr
The kitty cat is Softfoot, they were a kittypet but ran away to be a wild child and join Windclan. They are declawed but through their awesome abilities to be good at everything they found a way to fight. They're friends with the three, and likes ignoring Breezepaw/pelt. They also are friends with Heathertail. All their personality traits are mine :3
The Making Fiends lil guy doesn't have a name uhh, probably starts with an M. Maybe Marble? Anyway he is in the room 4 class. He's super anxious and loves to draw. I'm thinking that maybe Vendetta "hired" him once to draw fiends for her but maybe the design fiends didn't work that well so she fired him and he went back to doing what he always did.
The Beastars one is Eddie. He is in the drama club and works backstage. He's besties with Legoshi. He also loves to draw. Again all his personality traits are my own.
Thought this was so silly and had a lot of fun coming up with their cringy mini stories heheh!

Beastars Phistin au
Phil and Kristin attend Cherryton academy, as a panda her family is seen as the pinnacle of what society values, the strength and size of a carnivore and the instincts of a herbivore her family expects her to rise and become the new beastar although her grades are near perfect, due to her awkwardness she is in her senior years and have yet to do anything notable. As she builds the confidence to take a leading role in the coming play then comes this feathered rat Phil from the gardening club who threatens to usurp her spotlight, social, confident, a threat. Feeling threatened, her instincts take over.
The drama club consists of basically og L'manberg: Wilbur (anteater), Tommy (raccoon), Tubbo (goat), Niki (otter), Jack (hairless possum), Eret (lion), Fundy (fox) plus Kristin (panda).
The gardening club consists of Phil (crow), Techno (boar) and Ranboo (zebra).
Like in the original story the story kicks off when a student of the school is devoured, Wilbur is the victim and it is suspected that one of the students of the school did it. Wilbur was someone in the leading role and helping direct the play, thus Kristin fills in giving her the chance to do something notable.
Tumblr media
I love Beastars so much I'm head over heels for the worldbuilding.

This is the second part of a two-part rambling about parallels between some of the carnivores in Beastars; if you haven't read the first part, you should do that here, but the tl;dr for part one is as follows:
Carnivores in Beastars are told that they defined by their strength (both physical and emotional), swagger, and hunger (both metaphorical and literal), but are also simultaneously told that they must proudly embrace these things to be "true carnivores", and that they should be ashamed of these things which make them a threat to herbivores. Bill and Legoshi each initially attempt to dogmatically cling to one of these lines, Bill the former and Legoshi the latter, and all it does is make them miserable; their character arcs see them abandon these positions for a more nuanced middle ground where they can live happier lives.
With that out of the way, we can move onto the second part:
Carnivore Parallels, part 2 - Riz & Ibuki
Having established the start of Legoshi and Bill's arcs in the first quarter of the manga, in the second quarter of the manga, Paru Itagaki builds on the ideas and themes explored in those arcs through the characters of Riz and Ibuki.
Tumblr media
Riz and Ibuki are parallels both to Legoshi and Bill, and to each other. They're dealing with the same contradictory societal messages of "carnivores should be proud" versus "carnivores should be ashamed" that Legoshi and Bill are, but, they have additional pressures or factors exacerbating their situation that Legoshi and Bill don't.
Riz, like Legoshi, internalizes the "carnivores should be ashamed" message and comes to loathe himself for existing as a carnivore - as he explicitly tells Tem, "the real me isn't a good person". Unlike Legoshi, however, he has the additional circumstance that bears are made particularly ashamed of who they are by literal law, forced to take drugs with debilitating physical and mental side effects as punishment for being large and strong - and then given no support whatsoever for dealing with the side effects of those drugs beyond whatever self-medication they can work out themselves.
Ibuki, like Bill, internalizes the "these are things of which you should be proud" message. Unlike Bill, however, he has the additional circumstance that lions are told they are the kings of beasts and must live up to an especially extreme version of that ideal, and the personal history of being sold into slavery and getting drawn into a yakuza gang whose leader enforced the harshest, cruelest conception of what it meant to be king of beasts, which means the things which Ibuki did in the name of proving his worth as a carnivore are much more extreme, and induce much more guilt, than anything Bill ever did.
These additional circumstances push Riz and Ibuki over the edge, and where Legoshi and Bill get lucky, end up on the path to dealing with the self-loathing that came with their dogmatic adherence to the societal messaging, for Riz and Ibuki it ends in tragedy.
Riz ends up totally isolated, in physical pain and mental distress, failed by the Cherryton faculty, failed by Louis in his capacity as drama club leader (since Louis at this point is too busy hating carnivores to care about them), failed by a society that punishes him for merely existing as a bear. He ends up with no real friends, except for one herbivore who looks at him and isn't afraid - Tem - and his mental stability ends up resting entirely upon that one herbivore who looks at him and doesn't hate him, doesn't fear him, who gives him an escape from his self-loathing.
Ibuki does enough horrible stuff in the Shishigumi trying to play the part of the king of beasts that he comes to utterly fear and hate himself as a "mass of unstable darkness", he sees no escape from the bloody corner he has backed himself into, trapped playing a part that he hates but can't hope to get out of - leaving the mafia isn't exactly easy, and Ibuki has nothing beyond the black market, having been sold to it so young. The only thing keeping him going is the one herbivore who looks at him and isn't afraid - Louis - and his mental stability ends up resting entirely upon that one herbivore who looks at him and doesn't hate him, doesn't fear him, who gives him an escape from his self-loathing.
And the moment that herbivore leaves…
Tumblr media
Riz doesn't take his pills and wounds Tem by accident; Tem, who - going by what we get in looking at the backstories of other herbivore characters - has no doubt been bombarded his whole life with the idea that he ought to be scared of carnivores, that he ought to hate carnivores, freaks out and runs away. The one person who looked at Riz and didn't hate or fear him now screams at him that carnivores are nothing more than monsters.
Seeing the entirety of his support network vanish in an instant, Riz suffers a mental breakdown, murders his only friend, spends months slipping deeper and deeper into delusion as he desperately tries to live with the mix of the self-loathing he already had and the guilt of what he's done, and, once caught by Legoshi, goes to prison for god-knows-how-long for it.
Ibuki can't convince Louis to stay in the Shishigumi, since Louis - progressing along his own character arc - has realized that actually he does care for the carnivores in his life, and wants to make sure that Legoshi doesn't get himself killed. He resolves that he'd rather die happy under Louis’s leadership, next to him, than keep on living in misery and self-loathing.
He knows that he gave Free a gun and told him to use it if it ever looked like he was going to attack Louis, and he knows that Free followed him and Louis into the tunnel (this particular detail is left kind of vague in the manga and the anime, but it's super clear in - of all places - the full music video for the season two ED). So he makes it look like he's going to attack Louis, knowing that either Louis will shoot him, or Free will shoot him, and either way he'll get his wish of dying happy next to the boss he faithfully served.
Neither Riz nor Ibuki had any control over the fact that they were born as carnivores, nor the species they were born as. But the way they were treated as a result ultimately results in suffering and death.
Tumblr media
But - and here's where Paru twists the knife - we still see it made clear that Riz and Ibuki could've been like Legoshi and Bill, could've had happier endings, had society not failed them so relentlessly and repeatedly.
Riz, as we see in the chapter where he cooks for his roommates and in his flashbacks to his friendship with Tem before it all went wrong, was legitimately a kind and amicable and reliable person, like Legoshi is for his roommates. He has cooking as a hobby in the way that Legoshi has that interest in bugs, and so on and so forth.
But while Legoshi got really lucky the night he nearly killed Haru - the one thing that prevented Legoshi from becoming a murderer just as much as Riz was Zoe running outside to get Legoshi's help after Louis broke his fucking leg - and Riz, through no fault of his own, didn't.
Meanwhile, in the same way that Bill shines when he's caring for Els and his friends and the drama club and the shock chick because deep down he’s warm and caring and supportive, Ibuki really shines when he's being warm and fatherly towards Louis.
Seriously, Ibuki is the best damn dad Louis gets in this manga. Louis’s birth father is a total nonentity in his son's life, and while Oguma loves Louis, his obsession with the business means that he isn't there for Louis like he should be, and he only really changes that on his literal deathbed when he realizes that this is his last chance to be a father to his son. Ibuki, meanwhile, is basically always there to look out for Louis, even when Louis would rather pretend he doesn't need help.
Riz and Ibuki have tragic fates not because they're bad people, but because society dealt them a losing hand, because of who they were born as and the world they were born into. Because of sheer bad luck beyond their control.
In a society that didn't fail carnivores, in a society that didn't fail bears and lions so particularly and severely, Riz and Ibuki could've ended up like Legoshi and Bill. They could've gotten on the path to resolving that self-loathing, to finding a place for themselves in the world, a place that they're comfortable in, people who care for them. But the society of Beastars does fail carnivores, and it does fail bears and lions particularly severely, so two characters who could have had full and happy lives are jailed and dead respectively.
As a result, the two of them stand as parallel tragic mirrors; they're dealing with the same societal failures that Legoshi and Bill's arcs involve dealing with, but because society especially screwed them, even compared to other carnivores, their paths end in tragedy, both for them and those around them.
Legoshi, Bill, Riz, and Ibuki are part of the broader picture Paru Itagaki paints of the society in Beastars, and perhaps the overarching point that Paru makes through all of her characters is that this carnivore-herbivore societal arrangement, as it stands, works for nobody. Herbivores live their lives in constant fear and regularly face either infantilization or objectification, carnivores live with constant self-loathing either for being carnivores or for not being carnivore enough, and hybrids get all the downsides of both with the upsides of neither. Nobody benefits from it, but everyone acquiesces to it because they think it's normal, natural, inevitable - and that results in people being bent and broken by it.
And boy, even though Beastars isn't a one-to-one allegory about any particular real world thing, doesn't that feel relevant?

How is no-one in the Beastars fandom talking about how at the start of the Festival arch, the Drama club has to make new dinosaur sculptures and all start to nerd out over which dinosaurs they want to build like proper paleontology nerds. And Legoshi wants to build a horseshoe crab, like the bug loving mad-lad that he is!

Ships
I want to talk about ships.
First I want to get out of the way is that I don't understand people who do them in the first place. Sure I might find some of the art and fanstories people make of the ships have cute moments between the characters and all. But I personally like to keep things as canon as possible, because then I know what I'm writing/drawing and I'm not wasting my precious time on something that does not hold up to the actual thing.
Some spoilers for Gravity Falls and Beastars...
Okay so now that that's out of the way, I want to talk about the actual problem. Certain ships and the patterns of problems I see with some of them.
LGBTQ+ Ships:
Gravity Falls BillDip
Nowadays you can see a lot of ships, that much is true. But I want to bring up certain ships like BillDip, a good example of a problematic one. And this is just a bizarre example I could think of being bad. And I'm glad it pretty much stopped being so popular. BillDip takes a timeless extraterrestrial triangle (or mostly I see him portrayed as a non-canon human version) with the most immense powers in the world who is the greatest sworn enemy of originally a canonically average 12-year-old (for most of the series before at the end he turned 13). Do you see the problem here? Sure if you age up the second character it is technically legal to do that... But they still have a great age gap of about a trillion years. Okay... What if you age the first character down? Well, now you have stayed way too far from canon, at this point why not just find another ship that could perfectly accommodate your liking? There are many characters who are all-mighty beings and many characters who are just average in the same universe of the same fandom. And the problem is that they don't even have chemistry. They are the greatest sworn enemies with nothing in common. Bill is manipulative and bad, and Dipper knows that. The only moment Bill is nice to Dipper is when he's trying to manipulate him into possessing his body. They are literally the greatest enemies, not even a single bit of chemistry. And I feel the only reason it was ever shipped is because one of them was male (well a genderless cosmic being, but a male-like side to him) and the other one was too. Not everything that's gay is good.
Beastars Lougosi
But I'm not bitching on all gay ships if you're asking, no. Some are actually backed up by canon and make sense to a certain degree. Let's say the ship Lougosi. This ship takes place in a world of anthropomorphic animals where it's almost forbidden for carnivore animals to interact with herbivores. Louis is a male deer who was the head actor of the drama club. Legosi, a male gray wolf, worked for the sets for the plays of the drama club. Well, Legosi is usually portrayed to have been a dangerous person at first because he is automatically grouped as a carnivore alongside him having a menacing aura. And Louis seemed to not like him at first, where Legosi was the main angering for Louis. So Louis saw Legosi as some kind of antagonist before. There have been moments in the series that suggest a connection between eating and mating inside this universe as many of the characters talk about those things, or those things got mentioned, at the same time. So when Louis just one time grabbed Legosi and asked him to show him his fangs, that might've been an awakening for some people to ship this. It has also been shown throughout the series and is actually one of the main plots, that Legosi is in love with a herbivore (a white dwarf rabbit by the name of Haru to be exact), so the possibility of him liking Louis in this ship is not too far off. Along with Louis actually becomes the boss of a carnivore gang of lions for the black market, where he learns to bond with them and actually eat meat... Right at the end of the series, it is shown that Louis sacrifices a leg to Legosi so that he can become strong and fight the murderer of Tem (an alpaca friend of Legosi) who was Riz (a large brown bear).
It's just that some ships I find seem to not work, no chemistry, and no anything. It just seems that some ships are just for the sake of the LGBTQ+ and its over-representation as some of these awful ships. If you're going to represent the LGBTQ+ community and try to be inclusive, please don't push some of these ships. Sure it's fine I guess if you ship it as a crack ship, but really think about whether you actually ship certain characters together or not. And I'm not saying that the shipping fandom is bad, I just want to bring attention to the bad part I find of it.

How about platonic!yandere!Bill (Beastars) with a pot bellied pig "sibling" darling headcanons?
Tumblr media
Platonic Yandere Bill headcanons
Bill has never really cared for people but when you joined the drama club it was completely different. He felt he had to protect you from everyone.
He approached you first, wrapping his arm around you as he pulled you in and said hi. His form being much bigger then you, practically three times the size.
He knows he’s a carnivore and you’re an herbivore, which makes his emotions feel even weirder. He goes to the black market and eats meat but what he feels towards you is much different then hunger. He actually feels sick. Almost as if the idea of you being consumed in general is upsetting.
This sick feeling persists after he sleeps it off and even after eating a little meat. This intense anxiety won’t leave.
His pain is subdued only when he is around you. You have this calming energy that he is inexplicably drawn to.
If you are apart of tech then he will help you move boxes or even go out to get supplies with you, just to make sure you’re protected, it’s dangerous for an herbivore after all.
If you are apart of crew then he will help you rehearse and even ask you to stay later so he can “practice” more. He wants to consume your time so he can protect you.
He always walks you back to your dorm, even if he has to stay later then usual he will. He knows he gets stares from the other members of the club but he doesn’t care. His intentions are only pure.
He sees you as the younger sibling he’s never had. He wants to help you in any way he can. To help you study, to protect you from those who wish to cause you harm, to be a shoulder to cry on.
He doesn’t consider your feelings in this whatsoever, he sees it as him doing good for you but never even asks if you want this. You can fight back but he’d see it as you fulfilling the role of the bratty younger sibling.
He doesn’t mind if you hang out with others, just as long as he approves them. They have to be an herbivore, and they can’t ask you out. If they do he will have a word or two with them.
Overall, he’s pretty lax but can be very obsessive. He loves making sure you’re comfortable but won’t go as far as to leave you alone. He stopped eating pork entirely as well.

This was my first time writing for a platonic character so I hope this was good!
