Resource guarding isn’t inherently bad and it doesn’t have to escalate to fighting
Resource guarding simply means that the resource is valuable and the bird doesn’t want to lose it. People guard their own plate for the same reason, giving people a dirty look, looming over your plate, or telling someone off if they snatch food that wasn’t theirs. That’s resource guarding!
Captive birds often have extreme responses when it comes to resource guarding and this tends to stem from two main things: a lack of confidence and a lack of communication skills.
If you improve those you’ll often see calm and confident resource guarding that doesn’t escalate to extreme responses.
