He was gonna do it. He knew he had to. But he didn’t know how. Neptune watched as Sun fiddled with the object, his back facing him.
“Dude-”
Sun jumped. He fumbled, trying not to drop the item. He sent a glare at his friend and teammate once he had ahold of it.
“What? You gave me a heart attack!”
“Sorry.” Neptune apologized, raising his hands in mock surrender.
“I’m nervous. I mean, what if she doesn’t like it?” He asked, holding the object out to him. Neptune observed the small piece of jewelry, a small smirk on his face.
“Sun. How long have you been dating?”
“Three years.” He mumbled.
“Uh huh. Why are you so nervous?”
“Because what if she says no?” He pointed an accusatory finger at him. “You’d be scared in my position, too.”
“Please. A guy like me? Scared of a girl?”
Sun raised an eyebrow, not convinced. “Look, it’s just a little nerve-wracking, all right?” He said, looking down at the small figure in his hands. His fingers traced over the delicate design. “I don’t wanna mess it up.”
Neptune placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. “If you’re honest, if you pour your heart out, and she says no…..it won’t be your fault.”
“Is that supposed to help?”
“Well, it was worth a shot. It can be comforting, depending on how you look at it. If she says no it’s probably because she won’t be ready.” Neptune reasoned. Sun sighed, looking down at the ring once more. He smiled softly and placed the ring around his tail.
“On your tail?” Neptune asked.
“I washed it!” Sun defended.
“Can I just ask one thing?”
“Sure.”
“Why black?”
“They say people that enjoy something different and bold tend to choose these types of rings to symbolize their matrimonies. Wearing a black wedding ring also symbolizes eternal commitment as well as strength and power.”
“Wow. That’s really nice, dude.”
“She also has black hair and black ears.” He added with a grin. Neptune’s smile fell and he rolled his eyes.
“I don’t know how she puts up with you.” He admitted.
“I don’t either.” There was a pause. “Do you think I should dress up?”
“Will you just go?”
“Alright! I’m going!” Sun exclaimed, being shoved out of the room.
Sun took a breath and curled his tail, hiding the ring, as he walked outside. Neptune walked over to Sage and Scarlet. He gestured for them to follow him and they all trailed after Sun.
It was sunset, and Sun was wandering around, searching for team RWBY. Blake, more specifically. He saw a flash of black and white, contrasting the yellows, reds, and pinks of the sunset. He jogged over and saw team RWBY.
“Blake!” He called, raising his hand so she could find him easier. Her head turned and her eyes landed on her boyfriend.
“Sun!” She exclaimed. She parted from her friends, though they followed, and walked over to Sun. They embraced in a hug and Sun placed a kiss between her cat ears, a favorite spot of hers.
“What are you doing here?”
“Do I need a reason to see my girlfriend?” He retorted. She smiled.
“I suppose not.”
“But, actually, there was something I’ve wanted to ask you.” He admitted, scratching the back of his neck and wiping his free hand on his pants to rid it of its clamminess.
“What is it?” She asked softly.
“Well, um.” Sun started, slowly uncurling his tail. He wrapped it halfway around him, revealing the black band around it. “I was wondering if you’d like to marry me?” He asked, anxiety eating away at him.
Blake stared at the ring with wide eyes. Everyone but her was holding their breath. She was speechless. She looked back up at Sun, sweat collecting at his forehead. She nodded slowly before it sped up.
“Yes?” Sun asked for clarification.
“Yes.” She told him. Her grin was infectious and spread onto his face as well. A chorus of relieved sighs filled the air, followed by clapping and cheers. Sun grinned and bent down, kissing her. Ruby made a disgusted noise and covered her eyes, peeking through her fingers.
Sun pulled away. “I was so scared.” He admitted in a whisper. She laughed.
“You shouldn’t have been.” She told him.
“Well, you hesitated.” He defended. She grinned and gave him another peck. He took the ring off his tail and slid it onto her finger. Seeing it on her hand, he picked her up and spun her in circles, before bringing her into a hug.
“I love you.” He murmured against her hair.
“I love you, too.”
He pulled away suddenly. “Why are you crying?”
She laughed softly. “They’re happy tears.” She explained.
He breathed a sigh of relief. The rest of team RWBY and team SSSN ran over, surrounding the happy couple. They gave out hugs and congratulations.
“We’ll have to tell Mom and Dad.” Blake said, turning to her fiancée.
“Yeah. I asked them a few months ago about this. Your dad wasn’t too happy.” He remembered, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Months?”
“I was nervous.”
She smiled as she shook her head. “What did Dad say?”
“He said if I ever hurt you, I’d wish I hadn’t been born.” Sun recalled, a small look of discomfort on his face. Blake shook her head.
“He just loves me, is all.”
“Not as much as I do.”
