Gary Marsh Exiting As Head Of Disney Branded TV To Launch Disney-Backed Company With ‘Peter Pan’ & ‘Witch Mountain’ Offshoots, More ‘Descendants and Disney TVA’s First Original Movie
It’s the end of an era for Disney’s kids and family programming. Gary Marsh will be ending his 33-year executive tenure at the company when he steps down as President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Branded Television at the end of 2021. He won’t be leaving Disney though — Marsh will be launching his own production company backed by Disney General Entertainment. Under a rich multiyear production deal, Marsh will be developing content for Disney’s streaming and linear platforms including Disney+, Hulu, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, ABC, National Geographic, Freeform and FX.
Marsh is currently finalizing the first projects on the inaugural development slate of his company, including two new Descendants movies, extending the popular Disney Channel movie franchise; the Beauty and the Beast prequel series starring Josh Gad and Luke Evans, which was recently greenlighted by Disney+; as well as projects Tink, a take on Peter Pan‘s Tinker Bell; Witch Mountain, a new installment in the popular Disney franchise; and School for Sensitive Souls, an original music-filled animated story. On Beauty and the Best, he joins Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis; on Witch Mountain John Davis.

It’s almost 1 AM but in the song Belle from Beauty and the Beast the villagers sing “I need six eggs” “that’s too expensive!” and then later in the song Gaston, Gaston says “when I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs every morning to help me get large, now that I’m grown I eat five dozen eggs so I’m roughly as large as a barge” Gaston has been eating dozens of eggs every day for his entire life and is single handedly creating an artificial egg scarcity in the village and driving up egg prices. this economy is in shambles.

I can’t wait to get a live action movie where Disney delves into the backstory of Gaston and they reveal that his mom got crushed by a bookshelf to explain why he hates educated women that read.

Monsterfucker alignment chart! created because i was having an internal debate if Roxanne Ritchie is a monsterfucker. the answer is kind of.
image transcript + notes below
Image transcript: a chart of four by four boxes. The top left corner reads “The Monster Fucker Alignment Chart”. the other three boxes in the top row read, from left to right, “Monster Purist: the monster must be a classic horror movie monster, a societal outsider, and look distinctly non human.” “Monster Neutral: the monster must be a non-human, societal outsider character, with some elements of fantasy, sci-fi, or horror.” “Monster Radical: the monster can be any character that’s weird, inhuman, or evil.” The three boxes along the left side, in descending order read “Fucker Purist: you must have sex with the monster in canon.” “Fucker Neutral: the monster is your canon love interest, even if sex doesn’t happen in canon.” “Fucker Radical: you can have any kind of connection to the monster, including a platonic one.”
At the intersection of each category is a picture of a character or characters and underneath them is “(name) is a monsterfucker”.
Monster Purist/Fucker Purist: Elisa Esposito from the Shape of Water
Monster Purist/Fucker Neutral: Belle from Beauty and the Beast
Monster Purist/Fucker Radical: Ann Darrow from King Kong
Monster Neutral/Fucker Purist: Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural
Monster Neutral/Fucker Neutral: Roxanne Ritchie from Megamind
Monster Neutral/Fucker Radical: Various Doctor Who companions, pictured are Donna, Bill, Ryan, and Yasmin
Monster Radical/Fucker Purist: Harley Quinn from DC comics, picture is from the movie Birds of Prey
Monster Radical/Fucker Neutral: Will Graham from Hannibal
Monster Radical/Fucker Radical: Jim Kirk from Star Trek: TOS
End image transcript.
Some notes: doing this made me realize how few female monsters and villains there are, especially ones who have a strong connection to a regular human character. Similarly there are very few characters of color, either monsters or fuckers that fit into this chart. The only one who springs to mind is Eve from Killing Eve and her connection to Villanelle, but the series isn’t finished, so I don’t know if she’s a fucker purist or neutral yet.
feel free to debate me on this btw! it’s made for silly arguments about who is and isn't a monsterfucker. I based my category of “monster” on how much of an outsider they are to the society they’re in - so a wookie is not a monster, no one bats at eye at a wookie in the star wars universe. Spock qualifies veeeery loosely because he seems to be one of very few half human, half vulcan people, making him somewhat of an outsider. to be a fucker purist you need canon confirmation of sex and “they probably fucked post credits” does NOT count.

After all this time, he’s finally learned to love. That’s it, then. That should break the spell. But it’s not enough. She has to love him in return.

Muppet remake of Beauty and the Beast where the only humans are Belle and the Prince. Not the Beast, the Prince. The Beast is played by the Prince in a full-sized muppet suit, a la Big Bird. When it comes time for the transformation scene, he takes off the muppet suit and leaves it lying flaccid on the ground, like the corpse of his former self, like a giant serpent that has shed his skin. Belle is enchanted by his human form; the rest of the muppets are having an existential crisis about the empty muppet suit he’s left behind.
Alternatively: Everyone is played by muppets, including Belle, and the Beast is played by a human, looking normal and human. And they keep talking about what a hideous beast he is, and how smooth his skin is, how terrifyingly tall he is, and how weird he looks. At the transformation scene, he turns back into a muppet, and everyone rejoices.

Ashamed of his monstrous form, the beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year.
If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair and lost all hope. For who could ever learn to love a beast?
