hii!! i sent in a matchup,, can’t really remember what I asked for,, and I think it was anonymous so I might as well just resend info! I’m sorry T-T,, if this seems like one you already have you can use the previous animes requested instead of these!!
could I get a matchup from banana fish, death note, or demon slayer?? thank you!
i got by they/them pronouns, I am bisexual with no preference, and I am a slytherin. I’m also in cabin 12 if you know pjo! personality wise, I’m more laidback,, though I do joke around a lot and can be pretty sarcastic. thats once you get to know me, I have kinda bad anxiety so I might just come off as sarcastic or tired. idk if this would help but if you picture Saiki Kusuo, Reki Kyan, and Yuri plisetsky mixed together, you’d probably get something close to me. I’m pretty smart, as people say, I’ve always had good grades tho recently kinda hit a burnout,, but that won’t stop me from getting into my AP courses. i enjoy true crime and learning about the law,, I mainly find it interesting and would love to go into the forensic field. i watch a lot of anime and would typically either be painting or playing some game on my phone. i usually wear jeans with some kind of hoodie or slightly oversized t shirt. it’s comfy. i can be slightly clingy in a relationship,, I just like being with the ones I care for,, but I do know when to give some space,,
you’re totally free to ignore this as well!! thank you again! and congrats on your 600!!
Hello lovely! I hope you like your matchups! Thanks for the congrats! I chose just a couple from your previous matchup request (I had yours not on anonymous)  and mashed them up with this one :) I hope that’s alright!
Sk8 the Infinity Matchup: I pair you with… Nanjo Kojiro!
Tumblr media
You two meet at S! You are more there just to support your friend who has a beef with Joe, and he finds you incredibly intriguing! After winning the race, he comes up and asks you out. Whether you accept or not is up to you, but you stay in contact regardless. He’s also a Gryffindor, so the two of you pair rather nicely with some minor butting of heads in the beginning.
He loves that you joke around a lot and absolutely adores your sarcasm! He helps you work through your burnout and enables you to stay on track to pass all of your classes! He also buys you books on true crime and law with his own money because he wants to see you interested in things! (He also sneaks in books on skateboarding occasionally)
Joe doesn’t mind that you are somewhat clingy; in fact, he quite likes it! He likes feeling like he can protect and provide for you :) Also, lending you his hoodies or jackets! They absolutely drown you, and he thinks it is so freaking adorable!
Ouran High School Host Club Matchup: I pair you with… Morinozuka Takashi!
Tumblr media
You are a regular at the Host Club! You actually go to the twins usually or to see Honey but decide to branch out one day and see Mori. It turns out to be a great decision, and the two of you hit it off! He towers over you at 6’4” and most likely still growing as he is a teenage boy!
I definitely see Mori as a Gryffindor, so the two of you also make a great match like you and Joe! Your sarcasm and fun facts make Mori smile (although sometimes the true-crime facts are a little concerning), and he likes to lend you his school jacket, especially when it’s raining, so you don’t get wet or catch a cold. Then, he asks you to teach him to skateboard, and the two of you skate around town all the time once he gets the basics down!
Mori also helps your anxiety be lower and not as bad, and your jokes are one of the few things to get him to chuckle :) He helps you through your burnout and gives you tips and tricks that helped him through a similar scenario. He helps you with your studies, so study dates when you two have free time!
Demon Slayer Matchup: I pair you with… Tomioka Giyuu!
Tumblr media
So Giyuu is taller at 5’9” but obviously doesn’t tease you about it. He doesn’t tease you about a lot of things, actually, so that’s a plus, I guess, unless you like teasing. And he’s the third Gryffindor in a row! Maybe you have a type!
He has his own unique way of calming you down in the event of an anxiety attack. Like he’s so calm and firm in his beliefs that he’s like your firm rock to build a foundation upon. Your jokes get him to crack a small smile, and it absolutely makes your day when you get him to chuckle! He likes that you are so bright and asks for your opinion on a lot of things because he values it!
Your true-crime facts sometimes concern Giyuu, but he doesn’t show it and instead asks you to make sure to take care of yourself. He helps the best he can with your studies and supports you every step of the way in the forensic field!

Reki in a skirt. Reki stealing one of Koyomi's skirts without anyone in his family knowing. Reki putting it on in his room when no one is home. Reki feeling really good in a skirt but not ready to do anything about it so he only enjoys it when he's alone. Reki finding little pleasures in being a little more feminine from time to time. Reki who likes stealing things from his sister's closet, things she never wears. Genderfluid Reki who isn't confident enough to do anything about it, isn't confident enough to come out to anyone, but who still wants to wear skirts and pink from time to time

dating them.
synopsis: Some sweet, funny and also crazy moments in your relationship.
# tags: headcanons; current relationships; romance; mild comedy; fluff; PDA; sfw
includes: gender neutral reader ft. reki kyan, langa hasegawa, miya chinen, kaoru sakurayashiki & kojirou nanjou {sk8}
author’s note: so... i’m just in love with this anime...
Tumblr media
— REKI
↘ He’s such a precious boy who cheers you up in the blink of an eye; I think he has an extra sense, so he knows when you feel worse than usual or when you are in even the slightest pain (for example, you bumped your elbow or you haven’t eaten breakfast before ‘cause you missed your alarm clock and therefore you have a stomachache).
↘ Reki is a supportive lover; whether you are passionate about singing, learning languages, reading manga, sewing mascots or painting, a seventeen-year-old will always be right next to you to praise what you do or the way you look. He will notice every, even stupid detail about you and mention it immediately when you’re going to hang out. He’s definitely your fan and doesn’t hide it. Additionally, if you introduce him to what you love, he will also get interested in it in a way and then he will come to you to show off what he has done like a sketch of the two of you or an opinion about the anime you recommended him three days ago.
↘ The boy is really devoted to you and loves physical contact; grabbing a hand, kissing on the cheek or forehead, cute texts in the morning it’s something totally normal for the two of you. I also think that Reki could melt if you run your fingers through his soft hair or make small braids for him, decorating his head with a few colored hairpins or hairbands.
↘ If you know how to skateboarding, he will be delighted and your dates will mostly be about riding together or learning new tricks. Plus, it’s another thing Reki loves about you and wow. He’s even bigger fanboy than before!
↘ However, if you have never ridden or even tried to do it, it doesn’t matter. A teen will be happy to be able to offer you some private lessons if you wish. Again, red-haired adores physical contact, so holding your hands/waist while you stand on his beloved skateboard will be a dream come true for him.
↘ He always has ticket for you, so you make a new banner for each race to support him. Hit me, but I’m 120% sure that after race (whether he won or lost it) he takes your pretty banners and hides them in this special box that has its place on his bedroom closet.
↘ Overall, Reki is a boy who fits to the definition of high school, first love.
Tumblr media
— LANGA
↘ Your relationship is a bit more peaceful, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a bit of humor or abstraction.
↘ Langa loves your company so, so, so badly; Reki is quite hot-tempered and is literally everywhere, so when the two of you hang out together after school or at the weekend, blue-haired feels that he can breathe and relax every muscle in his body. You’re his comfort person, and your room is a safe place without fear and noise.
↘ He also enjoys physical contact, but much more prefers to show affection in private, for example in your home or in his own bedroom.
↘ His favorite type of PDA is cuddling; he prefers to be a big spoon and hug you from behind, but he has no problem hugging against your chest or warm stomach, especially when he feels down because of school or racing.
↘ I have a strange feeling that Langa is the type of romantic who would make an amazing Spotify playlist for the two of you so you could listen to the songs, cuddling each other in the bed.
↘ If you can skateboard that’s great! For sure you, Langa and Reki will be a good trio that will meet often in the skate park or in ‘S’. I’m also pretty sure he’ll cheer for you, but at the same time he’ll be very cute with it and definitely more calm than his bestie. For example, if you do a trick... you’ll get a quick kiss on the nose or Langa will buy you your favorite drink. He definitely likes to pamper you.
↘ If you don’t know how to skateboard but you really want to start skateboarding to share your lover’s passion... Well, he will definitely give you a short (long) monologue about how dangerous it is, and you need to be careful – because he knows best of all how a fall on butt or face hurts.
↘ He always keeps a tiny set of colored plasters in his jacket or pants pocket to take care of you in the case of an unexpected accident, as Reki used to care for him.
↘ He’s a good teacher, but he will definitely need to calm his emotions, because sometimes instead of showing you how to slide down the railing, he will suggest something more down-to-earth, like going to the cinema to watch the movie you mentioned three days ago.
Tumblr media
— MIYA
↘ Ahh, my precious smol baby.
↘ You are Miya’s first partner, so he still thinks that he’s not good enough for you, although you always reassure him with a light peck on the nose that he’s the best thing that has happened to you and that you’re very glad that you can be with him in every good and bad moment.
↘ The teenager is terribly shy about any physical contact outside, so if you aren’t at home, don’t expect a ton of hugs or kisses from him. He much prefers when you two are alone – then he doesn’t feel overwhelmed by the gazes of other people, especially other skaters who like to make fun of him.
↘ I swear I’ll bite and beat them all...
↘ Miya is a delicate soul and he really likes to feel that someone look after him, so in a relationship he definitely prefers when you cares for him. For example; just touch his soft hair, ask about his well-being or when he will have a race and a huge smile will appear on his face.
↘ I think if he feels that you are the only one for him... Maybe he will lend you his favorite hoodie with cat ears and tail? He’ll be overjoyed to see that you feel good in it. You look extremely cute, but he’ll never admit it.
↘ It smells like him, like wet earth and a hint of sweet perfume, and although it’s a strange combination, it feels really beautiful, downright safe and homey.
↘ For the next holiday (your birthday, your anniversary, Valentine’s Day or Christmas), he will give you a sweatshirt that matches to his own. It will be in your favorite color and will also have an animal accessory, not necessarily catish, because if you prefer dogs, rabbits or cows... You know, there are many options.
↘ If you know how to skateboard, he will be really calm and will feel that finally someone will want to spend time with him, training and riding together; not like in childhood when everyone turned away from him. He will definitely be moved when you grab his smooth hand and offer a long ride in the park. He definitely loves praise, so give him praise every now and then when he does a nice trick. He will also compliment you more than once and even give you a kiss on the cheek (of course if nobody is watching!). He’s not good at words, but he tries!
↘ If you don’t know how to skateboard... He may be a bit skeptical, but naturally he’ll agree to a few lessons in front of your or his house. Of course you originally just wanted to be close to him and hold his hand more often than usual, but it turned out to be pretty fun! Now, training is your typical dates.
↘ Miya is a sweet boy and although he may not look like that, he’s really protective, often jealous and always puts you at first place.
Tumblr media
— KAORU
↘ This beautiful man, this angel-looking ideal, this ahhhh... Being in a relationship with him is pure pleasure and daily healing for the soul.
↘ He’s a calm, understanding and loving partner. I think he’s a bit old fashioned but that only adds much more charm to his person.
↘ He often calls you his ‘dearest’, ‘darling’ or ‘sweetheart’, isn’t that cute?
↘ You two don’t go out on dates too often, but I think Kaoru loves to spend time at home, having tea or on the couch while one of you is reading a book and the other is listening to music or just sleeping. He definitely doesn’t look like that, but he loves PDA/cuddling and is the best at it!
↘ He also likes it when you suggest learning calligraphy together. He never forced you to do this, but when he first heard that you would like to meet one of his passions, he was really happy and immediately showed you how to write with ink on the special paper he had in his flat. Obviously, more than once you ask him to write a simple letter or word, because you just love his handwriting and how focused he seems. He’s really hot then, I swear to god!
↘ You love his long hair and are always eager to give him a new, nice hairstyle; normal braid or fishtail braid. Maybe a bun or a ponytail with a few hairpins? He loves everything you do on him. In addition, the gentle head massage you give him each time is the most soothing thing in the world for him.
↘ If you know how to skating... He’s really surprised, but that doesn’t mean he’s unhappy or angry. He wants to see what you can do right away and you will surely feel a sweet kiss on your forehead more than once when the trick will be good or even better than you both thought. He’s a supportive boy, but doesn’t show it as vehemently as Reki, for example; he prefers to smile at you or clap softly.
↘ If you don’t know how to skate yet, but you asked him to teach you how to even stand on it... I imagine Kaoru going pale and trying to distract you from this idea because, as an experienced skater, he’s afraid that you will hurt yourself like any beginner. But your big eyes and ruddy cheeks are his weaknesses, so he’ll trust both you and Carla and help you keep your balance on his beloved, black-violet board. Reward him later with quick kisses or give him his favorites, okay?
↘ To sum up, Kaoru is a good and honest lover. He definitely loves your company and won’t mind spending his free time seriously and frivolously with you.
Tumblr media
— KOJIROU
↘ This guy is the definition of the sentence ‘Through the stomach to the heart’. Any objections? No. So let’s gooooo!
↘ Kojirou is a PERFECT second half. Both in character and appearance. If he fall in love with someone seriously, and it will be you, then know that he’ll care for you like about a member of the royal family; breakfasts in bed, an Italian supper, the perfect choice of wine for a chicken or steak are things that have become a sweet daily thing for you at some point.
↘ He loves to show you affection and absolutely has no problem doing it in public, even when he’s working or when you two are in a tight crowd on the train or in the ‘S’ before his race. He will kiss you hard on the lips, grab your skin on your butt or hug your waist. It’s just that everyone needs to know that you belong to him. He’s just as clingy as Reki, and sometimes even worse and bolder.
↘ Of course he has cute side; he likes to lie on the bed or the sofa with you on his chest. He loves being between your thighs and sleep there. He definitely has a weak point in that when you you run your finger on his tattoo or cook dinner with him, throwing ingredients at him and laughing out loud.
↘ Another romantic who uses thousands of pet names (like babey, cutie, doll, pumpkin, kitten). Plus, he loves to dance with you in the kitchen and steal a few kisses here and there. Also, if you aren’t looking, he likes to surprise you with a big, bear hug.
↘ I think he’s a bit impatient, so he doesn’t like to sit at home and prefers dates in crazy places (such as an amusement park, swimming pool, karaoke bar) – it’s his favorite way of spending your time together. As a gentleman, he always pays for you, unless you go faster and bring your ATM card to the card reader as first. But don’t be surprised when Kojirou will just buy you cotton candy or popcorn shortly afterwards.
↘ If you know how to skateboard, he’s as excited as a kid and will definitely offer you a date at the skate park. Naturally, he wants to show off to others what a super cool partner he has, but he also wants others to know that you’re here together to kick everyone’s asses with your abilities. You’re definitely a powerful couple and you have the matching necklaces!
↘ But if you don’t know how to skating then... well, well, well. Just be prepared that one day (without even asking for it) you’ll stand on his beloved board and he will grab your hips, smiling silly. He enjoy skin ship so this guy feels utopian when he can be near you. He definitely won’t spare you compliments, long pecks, and smack your butt when you do something great, so you have to get used to it... and it’s going to be a long training session, so good luck, my friend.
↘ He’s a funny guy, but he’ll never cross your limits, so don’t worry about that. However, he will always find a topic for conversation or a joke to relax the atmosphere or cheer you up. You will never be bored with him.

falling for you ❧ kaoru sakurayashiki / cherry blossom
Tumblr media Tumblr media
navigation | music
➣ genre: fluff, slight comedy
➣ warnings: cursing
➣ a/n: i’m far too in love with this man. i can’t help myself. also if you have anything you want me to write, send it to my inbox!
Tumblr media
- he first met you at "S," seeing you stood by langa and reki
- his silky pink hair flowed behind him in the wind, his bangs lifting to reveal his golden eyes. those golden orbs are locked on you the entire time he skates closer to you
- the lack of bickering that usually arose between cherry and joe had caught joe's attention
- joe notices cherry's gaze on a particular y/h/c. he almost snorts, almost, but, being a teasing lil bitch kidding, he decides to jab at cherry's side
- "hey, do you see that girl over there? she's cute, isn't she?"
- the bubblegum-colored hair male glares holes into his friends head
- "i'm sure she wouldn't be interested in a muscle-brained gorilla like yourself"
- "bOI, DID YOU JUST-"
- skates off into the distance, further closing the gap between the two of you
- girls and guys start cheering for and fawning over cherry, as well as joe. this catches your attention because you're surprised mostly by the fawning of the people. honestly, you wouldn't say that anyone you've seen there is worthy of so much attention, excluding your two best buds: langa and reki.
- you're actually older than reki and langa by 3 years. you met reki on coincidence.
- you had borrowed your friend's skateboard to cruise around the town. you had felt overwhelmed with all that had been going on in your life, and you wanted to find an escape. your friend, wanting to help you with that mission, offered the board, saying "it's really fun and gets your mind off of things whenever you need." obviously, you took up on the offer because it was a nice spring day: the sun out and the bright colors of nature and the city filling your misty eyes.
- you skated by the skate park and saw a particular redhead practicing ollies and other tricks. you were impressed by the skill he had portrayed, yet you were also envious of how light he seemed, how his eyes twinkled with joy. your gaze must've rested too long on the boy because he approached you soon after.
- reki, later on, introduced you to langa, bringing you to where you were today
- you came to "S," though unwillingly, to support langa in his beef against another fellow skater
- honestly, you detested that your younger friends were participating in illegal activities but never brought it up because you saw how happy they looked whenever they spoke about the beefs
- anYWAYS-
- looking into the distance, you see a masked man in a white yukata, hair flowing behind him, and a green haired, shirtless, buff man skating closer
- "who's that?" you ask your friends
- "oh! that's cherry blossom and joe. they are the founding members of "S." cherry has an ai board, and joe has incredible power," reki pips
- you nod, acknowledging the two men as they stepped off of their skateboards
- “well hello there,” the green haired man winks at you
- “hi,” you flush, eyes wandering between his gaze and his bare chest
- “what’s a pretty little lady like yourself doing with these two kids?”
- “uh-”
- reki tries to jump joe but is held back by langa because we know that reki doesn’t stand a chance against big muscle man
- joe gets all up and comfy with you, flexing his muscles and talking about who knows what
- your attention was mostly on the blue-nette friend of yours. you were still very anxious about this entire thing
- “she’s not even paying attention to you anymore, you idiot,” the masked man speaks
- embarrassed that they noticed your rude behavior, you begin to excessively apologize
- “no, please don’t apologize. i should’ve realized you were worried about your friends,” joe says modestly
- “there’s no need to worry about snow. he’s fully capable of staying safe. we’ve seen him skate many times, and he always comes out in one piece. i’m sure you’ll be impressed as well,” cherry says in his monotonous tone
- “snow?” you tilt your head to the side in confusion
- when i tell you cherry MELTED, i mean that he MELTED
- stomach? churning. heart? fluttering. cheeks? flushing. hotel? trivago
- bRO, why are you SO FUCKING ADORABLE
- “snow is langa,” joe explains when he notices cherry’s flustered silence
- “ohhhhhh-”
- “actually, i’ve just realized. we haven’t properly introduced ourselves. call me joe,” he looks expectantly at his friend
- “you may call me cherry,” the man thanked the lords that he wore a mask because if he wasn’t, you’d see the obvious rose tint on his cheeks
- “i’m y/n! i came here with reki and langa.”
- to say cherry’s heart broke in that moment would be an understatement. his heart was more so shattered and pulverized.
- did i just fall for a minor? FU-
- “but i’m older than them, of course.”
- lemme just pick up the shards of my broken heart and re-piece it back together
- you barely talked to cherry that night his fault for acting so cold, but you were intrigued by the man. i mean he skates on a talking skateboard, how can you not?
- cherry leaves “S” that night, regretting all his life decisions because instead of talking to you, he avoided you
- who knows when’s the next time he’d meet you?
- lmao, SiKe
- you walk into sakurayashiki calligraphy, awkwardly waiting to be interviewed
- his pink hair meets your eyes, the long, silky hair framing the man’s pale face. a pair of glasses rest on the bridge of his nose, enhancing his golden eyes. he is clad in a navy blue yukata
- hm, he looks familia-
- you almost gasp aloud, as you realize who he is
- not wanting to jump to conclusions, you ask, “have we met before?”
- kaoru is freaking out, though he hides it well under his professional mask
- what the heck? she’s the one looking for a job here?
- “yes, we have, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about”
- yiKeS, nice first impression on your, hopefully, new boss, y/n
- throughout the entire interview, you impressed him with the slightest of things
- you were beyond professional and exactly what he looked for in employees
- damn it. why is she so perfect?
- you walk out of the building with the brightest smile on your face, ecstatic with the news that you had been hired
- kaoru follows closely behind you, acting gentlemanly as he leads you out
- “thank you so, so much. i promise i will work my hardest to make your business even stronger and better than before”
- “no, the honor’s all mine. i can tell that you’ll become a valuable asset”
- you’re bowing your head and thanking him to a crazy amount that he starts to worry that you’re getting dizzy
- mustering up all the courage he could, he speaks up, “actually, i don’t really like talking about the skating half of my life...”
- you mutter a genuine apology for bringing it up before
- “it’s alright, but i was wondering if you wanted to go to “S” with me next time. i understand if you decline. i won’t fire you for it,” he tries to add a joke to lighten his tense mood
- you giggle at his nervous and awkward behavior, “good to know i won’t get fired if i say no, but sure! i wouldn’t mind going again. it’s a good opportunity to let me watch over reki and langa—”
- “that-that’s great,” he sighs with relief
- “—and i can get to know you better,” you mutter quietly under your breath
- he flushes, hearing what you said perfectly
- “i wouldn’t mind that either”
- you couldn’t sleep that night, thinking about the soft smile on kaoru’s face, whilst kaoru was busy sleeping, lost in his dreams of you and him together
- the both of you couldn’t wait to get to know each other more

reki grins at himself in the mirror, smoothing out the crinkles in his dress, before reaching for his nearby brush. he doesn't usually do much to his hair, and he's not about to now, but he does run the brush through his red hair a few times, anyway. he doesn't brush it often because brushes hurt and usually gets stuck in his unruly hair, making it a horribly painful experience.
but, he does get his hair to smooth back a little. once finished, he steps back to get a good look at himself, taking in the red and gold dress he'd chosen for today. he does a small twirl, and giggles to himself. then, he heads into the living room, ready to show his sisters some more skateboarding tricks.
he doesn't wear dresses often. when he does, it's onl in the safety of his home. the one he's wearing now is a short sun dress, since it was a tad warmer today, with spaghetti straps that reki would totally get made of wearing outside of home. his mom and sisters never make fun of him, instead complimenting and supporting his dress choices. his mom sometimes even buys him new dresses when she sees one she thinks he'll like, which he appreciates immensely.
this dress was mainly red, with a few, swirling lines of gold and yellow in the chest area. this has to be one of his favorites, and his sisters agree with him.
"i love that dress on you, onichan!" the twins exclaimed in unison, to which kiyoko hums begrudging agreement.
"thanks, you two," reki said with a slight laugh. he then guides them outside, grabbing the small boards he'd made for them to learn on.
they all laugh as reki continues their lessons, the twins only falling off of the boards a few times throughout it. theyre an hour in when kiyoko seems to spot something behind reki, a grin breaking across her face.
"langa-kun!" kiyoko exclaimed, and reki jolts to a stop, his heart stuttering. he suddenly can't breathe, his entire face bursting into heat.
langa was here? why was langa here?! he said he had to help his mom today!
and he's not supposed to see reki in a dress! thats emberassing!
"hello," langa said in greeting, and reki could already hear the smile in his voice. he hasn't turned around yet, because maybe, if reki doesn't see him, langa won't be able to his dress. but then he feels the blue eyed gaze on his back, and he knows he's been caught. "oh, reki-"
reki darts to the house, shouting incomprehensible phrases behind him, along lines of, "be right back!" "left the oven on!" and "need to change!"
as soon as he's in the safety of his room, he collapses to his knees, face still burning with his embarrassment. he grabs fistfuls of the dress at the bottom, swallowing heavily against the clump in his throat. langa had definitely seen him. how could he not have? reki was wearing his brightest dress today, and he was in a dress, how could anyone miss that! a guy in a dress- langa was probably going to make fun of him to no end after this.
he sighs heavily, running a hand through his hair. who was he kidding? langa wouldn't make fun of him, the guy was too nice for that. but that doesn't mean he wouldn't throw weird looks reki's way, his eyes confused and his eyebrows tightly knitted together. he wouldn't say anything, but he would definitely think of how weird reki was.
because what man wears dresses? even if they are extremely comfortable, pretty and make him feel good while wearing them.
there's a knock on his door, and his body stiffens. "reki? why'd you run off?" langa's voice filters through the door, uncertainty lacing his tone. "are you mad at me again?"
reki swallows thickly, guilt setting over him. of course langa would take his fleeing badly- he'd already ran away from langa once before with no explination. to langa, this could be exactly the same.
"no, no!" reki shouted back, emberessmant and guilt mixing into an uncomfortable feeling in his gut. which shouldn't be happening, since seeing langa and wearing dresses always made him extremely comfortable. he lets out another sigh, and steels himself. he can't run away from this conversation. "you uh.... you saw what i was wearing, didn't you?"
silence follows his words, and he's about ready to rip his own hair out. of course langa had seen! he was probably judging reki to no end!
"uh, yeah?" langa replied, and he still sounds extremely confused. "a pretty dress, right?"
reki blinks at his response, only growing confused as well, now. why did langa sound like that? he didn't sound disgusted or uncomfortable, just confused. he pushes to his feet, and slowly slides his door open to a crack.
langa is on the other side, and as soon as he sees reki again, his eyes look the redhead from head to toe, a slight blush hiding just beneath his bangs. was he embarrassed for reki? no, that doesn't sound right... he seems to have... enjoyment, in his gaze? was he enjoying seeing reki dressed like this?
"pretty?" reki repeated, dumbly. langa stares at him for a moment longer, his blush deepening. reki wasn't used to langa being the flustered on- langa was always making reki flustered, not the other way around. was it the dress? reki grabs one of the edges of his dress, shifting it a little.
langa nods shyly, his fingers twitching from their places at his sides. "y- yeah," he stammered, and his blush is covering his cheeks now. "and i... i think you look.... really pretty in it, too."
it's reki's turn to blush now, his face turning a deep crimson. both of his hands fly to his face to hide it, flustered. "th- thank you..." he muttered, looking down at the floor.
"yeah.. i didn't know you liked to wear dresses," langa said, and reki lets him come into his room. he goes straight to the bed, sitting on the edge. he watches reki move around the room, before deciding to sit on the desk chair. he keeps his legs crossed, dress falling over his knees. langa is looking at him with adoration in his gaze, completely in love. "you look... really good in one."
reki's blush deepens even worse, and he ducks his head. "we- well, thats because most people find it weird," he replied shyly, twisting the fabric of his dress with his nerves. "i only wear them at home because of that."
"does anyone make fun of you?" langa asked, his gaze darkening into one of anger. reki's eyes widen.
"i- i mean when i first started the- they did," he answered hesitantly, tugging at the fabric now. this look on langa's face always... does something to reki. he's not entirely sure what, but he usually only has that expression solely for reki, when he thinks someone is hurting or being rude to him. it must be that it makes reki feel special, feel protected. no ones really wanted to protect him before, after all. "but since i only wear th-them at home now, they don't really know..."
langa frowns at him, eyebrows furrowing. "but you look so good," he said, as if it was the simplest thing in the world. reki's breath stutters in his chest, and he wets his lips nervously. langa was always laying the praise on, and he was horrible at accepting. "if you want to wear them more in public, i'll make sure they leave you alone." he smiles warmly at reki, and suddenly reki can't breathe again. "i'll protect you."
and that's how reki starts wearing dresses when they go skateboarding together, fear of judgement thrown to the wind. with langa beside him, he could do anything, including wearing dresses in public.

Big brother
Reki doesn't admit it out loud, but he loves to take care of his sisters. Koyomi is usually locked up in her room and claims she doesn't need him to babysit her so he usually ends up watching over the twins alone when their mother is away.
This time though he's asked her permission to take the little girls to the park to teach them how to skateboard.
Langa is with them; it's not a surprise, he's always with Reki. Sometimes he wonders why he spends so much time with him instead of a cute omega girl. He's a very popular alpha and has been invited to several parties, but doesn't seem interested in them for some reason.
Even though Reki is the only omega in his house (well, at the moment, they don't know about the twins yet, they're too young for that) he likes it.
When they get to the park Reki leaves Nanaka and Chihiro on the ground carefully. He sits next to them and starts putting them the helmets, knees and elbow pads. He's so focused on the task and their excitement he doesn't notice Langa has been staring at him the whole time.
Well... At least until he speaks.
"You look good with kids," he blurts out, prompting Reki to quirk up a brow at him. Langa's scent becomes more intense suddenly, almost protective, and he blushes when their eyes meet. "Would you like to have your own... someday?"
"Of course!" Reki beams at him before turning around at the twins that are constantly demanding his attention. "At least two."
"I-I'd like that too, you know?" Langa mumbles before handing him one of the boards he's been carrying.
"I'm sure you'll soon find a nice omega for you," Reki says absentmindedly, after explaining to the girls how to stand on the board. He helps one at a time, holding them firmly when they get on the board.
Chihiro chuckles and her sister pouts, already making grabby hands at him. Reki smiles at her fondly.
"Be patient, Nanaka. It'll be your turn soon enough."
"I think I-I have already found someone."
Even though he's still watching his sisters, Reki hears Langa clear enough and feels suddenly, inevitably sad, however, he wants to show his friend he supports him so he turns around and grins at him.
"That's great! What's her name?"
"Her?"
"Slime!" Miya stops right in front of Reki, prompting the twins to squeal in excitement, looking up at the cat ears over the teen's hoodie.
"Hi!" They both say at the same time to which Miya just frowns in response.
Reki suddenly remembers that the young alpha is an only child so he's not that surprised by his reaction.
"Who are they? Langa and you have pups already?"
The older alpha groans like he's in pain, covering his face with one hand. Is it really the thought of having pups with Reki so disgusting to Langa?
"They're my sisters! Chihiro and Nanaka!"
At that, the young alpha looks at him like he's been betrayed.
"You didn't say you had siblings!" Miya hisses, looking almost hurt.
"I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it a couple of times," Reki says, confused.
"You didn't," Miya insists, still upset.
"What is it, Miya?" Reki reaches out and strokes that black hair of his, for a moment the alpha leans into the touch, but he quickly moves away.
"Nothing. Anyway, I hope you pay attention because I'm about to do a few tricks. You need to learn a lot."
"Alright, but be careful because my sisters are here."
The girls seem to be really impressed with Miya, they think he's flying in the air and would like to do something like that too; Reki has to remind them they're not ready for that yet.
Langa is watching over the three of them; he's constantly asking Reki if he needs help and preventing the little girls from falling right on time.
Nanako manages to stay still enough for Reki to move her along with the board. When she giggles, delighted, Reki takes her in his arms and gives her a kiss on her little forehead. When Chihiro starts pouting, he leans to give her a kiss as well.
Finally, he notices they're not alone anymore, a group of people are looking in their direction. Langa looks particularly tense.
"Your fans are here, Miya," he says, grinning. "Well, maybe they're Snow fans too."
"They're looking at you," Miya replies, irritated. "You're acting like a perfect omega mommy again."
"What?" Reki blurts out, at the same time his brain goes: 'again?' What is he talking about?
"Are those your sisters?" A pretty girl asks, staring at him with a huge smile. She smells like a beta.
"Yes!" Reki nods. He introduces them quickly, making the girl's eyes glimmer.
"You're such a good big brother," she comments, leaning closer to him. "Can I have your num–"
A growl cuts her off suddenly; it takes Reki a while to realize that it has come from Langa.
"Are you alright?" He asks the alpha who looks a little bit embarrassed out of the sudden.
As he nods, still eyeing the girl, she decides to run away from them.
Reki would like to point out that's not a good way to get a girlfriend, but chooses to keep teaching his sisters the basics.
"Such a pretty omega," an alpha boy comments. Honestly, Reki just assumes he's talking to someone else and doesn't look up until the boy is just a few feet away from him. "You do seem to know how to take care of pups."
"Uh... Thank you?" He's not sure where the conversation is going or why he and the other people around appear to be interested in him.
Before the boy can say something else though, Langa has already walked in between them and is glaring at the other alpha like he wants him to disappear.
They stare right at each other until the other alpha nods and walks away. It's really weird.
"Reki, let's get out of here before Langa kills someone," Miya says, trying not to look worried, however, it's easy to smell the concern in his scent.
Noticing the tension on Langa's shoulders, Reki nods, rises quickly and takes both girls in his arms.
"Let's go, Langa."
The alpha doesn't hesitate, he takes the boards and follows Reki with a smile on his face.
"You're acting like a puppy," Miya tells the other alpha, rolling his eyes, but he follows them as well anyway.
"I'll see you at school, cutie!" A girl tells him, waving a hand at Reki. "I'll help you babysit your adorable sisters whenever you want!"
"Thanks!" He says, although Miya grabs him by the sweatshirt and pulls hard so he keeps moving.
Langa looks like he's going to get sick.
When they get home, Reki gives the girls a bath, puts them clean clothes, makes sure to feed them and finally takes them to their room when they fall asleep.
He doesn't realize that Miya and Langa are having a discussion in the living room.
"What was that all about, Langa? Are you alright?" He asks, sitting on the couch when he comes back. The two alphas sit right next to him at each side.
"I'm... fine."
"He was being a stupid jealous alpha," Miya informs him, prompting Langa to blush to the tip of his ears. "He doesn't like when other people hit on you."
"They weren't hitting on me," Reki protests, feeling his cheeks burning, his blush is probably matching Langa's now. "But I don't understand... what about the omega girl?"
"Reki, there is no omega girl or anybody else for that matter," Langa mumbles, taking both of the redhead's hand in his. "I just want you."
"Oh," he whispers feeling like he's been purposely blind all this time. "I... like you too."
"Would you let me scent you, please?"
Reki has started to realize that Langa is a very possessive alpha, but he kinda likes it. He nods, ignoring Miya's protests or the way he covers his eyes and enjoys when Langa nuzzles his neck.
He kisses him on the lips afterwards, but Reki can't lose himself in the sensation because Miya is already making puking sounds.
"Later," he promises Langa who's eyes darken at the thought.
"You two are disgusting," Miya grimaces.
"Miya is jealous of your sisters," Langa says in revenge.
"What? That's not true!" The young alpha hisses, turning completely red.
Reki is about to ask why, but then all those memories of Miya demanding his attention come back to him at once.
"It's alright," he says, running his fingers through the boy's black hair. "The fact that I have sisters doesn't mean I don't consider you my brother as well."
Miya tries to deny it, but something in him breaks and he jumps into the omega's arms.
"Really?"
"Yes, I consider you part of my family."
Langa embraces both of them, purring happily as he keeps nuzzling Reki on the back of his neck.
"You already scented me," he points out, amused.
"They all need to know you're mine."
Miya protests, but keeps his arms around the omega's waist.

≫ ──── ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ──── ≪
A family would always be part of one's life. But does it had to be consistent of related blood? Or could it be just a person and their pet? Perhaps it could be a group of friends? Perhaps.
When family comes to mind, [Y/N] would be reminded of their father's neglect on them. Of a mother who abandoned them. Of their older brother wishing to do nothing with them but just get them out of the family. Of aunts who showed their "love" for them in a horrid way.
But now, when family comes to mind, they were reminded of a man and his adorable pet with pointy ears. Of a redhead who talks non-stop of skateboarding and his way of woodworking. Of a young boy who had a talent for talking to cats. Of a florist man who was a clown at night. Of an amazing chef and his good looks. Of a elegant man who had a love for his AI. And finally, of a young blue-haired boy who was silent yet talktive at the same time.
Who would had thought they would find another family that quick. It took time to open up, yes, but at a steady pace like they were learning skating once again was all they needed to build up trust and care for these people.
And even though they were banned from S, [Y/N] was not ban from skating and Langa made sure to bring that point to them. He thought they hated skating because of him but all they needed was a little time off before getting back on the board. Reki built them a customized skateboard that fitted their aesthetics. A street board decorated in black on top and white on bottom with red wheels. A cute white rabbit's head and its red eyes painted on the bottom largely like Langa's abominable snowman. Langa had asked Reki to make it and Reki didn't refuse. It was a surprise gift for [Y/N], Langa told him.
Ever since their friendship with Langa started on that day after weeks of leaving S, Langa stood by their side. He kept his promise. He never hurt them. If anything, his love for them grew. They went to the same school now. They ate lunch with the boys in the roof top. They skated together at the boys' usual hangout. And being kicked out of their old home, Reki's mother was happy to let them stayed until they earn enough money from working for Dope Sketch to live on their own place. It felt nice. The new changes. The environment was different from their old life with the Shindo Family. It was welcoming and lovely. No sense if hatred send towards their way. They liked it.
"Good morning, Reki and [N/N]!" Langa said, smiling a little when he saw Reki and [Y/N] skated down the sidewalk to the pole where Langa stood. Reki grinned and greeted his best friend, high-fiving each other.
"Morning, Langa!" Reki said brightly, getting off his skateboard. When [Y/N] catched up, Langa walked up to them.
"Mornin'..." [Y/N] greeted softly. They still weren't used to the presence of Langa and Reki and their personalities despite being friends with them for a few months now. They never had friends before. Kids they met during their childhood bullied them. Their brother never wanted to do anything with them, so a brotherly bond was never formed. Well, maybe they did had one friend and it was Tadashi. Like Ainosuke, he taught [Y/N] how to skate. But unlike their brother, they never made the effort to go up to Tadashi to spend time with him. They were younger, too. Too little to play with the older boys.
"Hey, earth to [N/N]~? Anyone home?" Reki waved a hand in front of their face, wincing when it was smacked away. "Ow! Langa's right, you do slap hard." The redhead complained, rubbing his hand as back away from the other. [Y/N] pouted as they glared playfully at Reki.
"Sorry... I was just... thinking, that's all." The [h/c]nette muttered as they looked down at the board steadied by their foot on top of it. Langa tilted his head.
"What were you thinking about?" His silk voice calmed them down whenever they heard it. It was soothing to their ears. It was one of the things they liked about Langa, along with many other quirks of his. Such as his baby blue eyes. They loved staring into them. They liked to run their hands through his soft, blue hair whenever they hangout on the couch, leaning against each other.
It was funny. How they instantly click. Already finding comfort in each other. A few months ago, [Y/N] hated Langa. Refusing to hangout with him. Skate with him. Talk to him. But little by little, Langa took his time with them and broke down their walls, leaving each space for them to feel comfortable with his presence. It was the one thing that made them fall for him. Whenever he smile, their heart beat against their chest like butterflies were inside. They had this tingling feeling in their stomach whenever Langa look at them. They liked this feeling. It was an unfamiliar one but they could get use to it.
"[Y/N]..." There it was again. Their name rolled out of his tongue. It meant for him to say their name.
"Ah, yeah... Um.... I was just thinking," [Y/N] cleared their throat, eyes looking down at the ground as they tried to hide their flushed face. "if we're gonna skate? Try for any new tricks?" They shrugged, glancing back up at the two friends quickly. Reki nodded with a grin.
"Of course, we're gonna! Langa still gotta nail that one trick of yours." Reki teased, nudging the other boy on the torso as he looked up at him. Langa pouted, earning a laugh from Reki.
"It's a hard trick," Langa started but closed his hands into a fists with a determined expression on his face and locked his eyes with [Y/N]. "But I'll try my best to achieve it, [N/N]."
A soft laugh caught the two boys off guard. They stared at [Y/N] with slightly wide eyes. They hardly hear them laugh, so it was a first time since they became friends that the duo heard [Y/N] laugh. And Langa loved it. Such as much as he loved every little thing about them. It brought a gentle smile to his face.
Their eyes locked once more. Both staring at each other with admiration.
"I can't wait then. Let's see you try to nail the White Rabbit's ticking curve trick." [Y/N] said. Reki chuckled, already getting a head start to the direction to the usual skating hangout. Langa turned to them, a hand held out. And without another word, [Y/N] took his hand in theirs.
No words were needed to exchange for the looks they gave each other were enough. Actions says more than words. And skating down the road, hand in hand, was enough for Langa to know they wanted to stay with him such as much as he wanted to stay with them.
The phrase to skate together with you didn't just apply to his friendship with Reki, but also applied to his new found relationship with [Y/N].
In the end, he caught the white rabbit and left the thorns filled hole of theirs, not bother one bit about the minor cuts he occurred. All he cared about was the white rabbit, who rested safely in his arms and shower by the love they had wished for.
A love they both could see growing as days went by.

Renga Fantasy AU
I've seen lost of fantasy Au's with Langa being the prince and Reki either the cute gardener, the adorable captain of the army, or any other common role that will be the prince's love interest... but what about Prince Reki?
I can see it like this:
Joe is the head of the cook and Reki's paternal figure number #1.
Cherry is the first advisor of the royal family and Reki's paternal figure #2.
Shadow is a guard and probably Reki's main bodyguard, he acts like he is annoyed by Reki's too energic and loud personality but in reality he is a big softie and has a weakness for the young and gentle prince, he is Reki's older sibling figure.
Miya is the son of a noble family, probably training for either being court sorcerer or knight, he is Reki's closest friend despite being younger, he sees Reki as his old brother and is very protective of him because in his opinion (and in everybody else's opinion for that matter) the redhead is too nice for his own good and someone needs to take care of him for god's sake! Of course he will deny it for ever and still be the tsundere he is.
Langa can be the son of a merchant and a doctor from another kingdom, after his dad dies his mother decides to go back to her home in the Kyan's kingdom (Okinawa), because of her reputation as a good doctor she gets a job in the palace as court physician. Langa stays with her at the palace and he could be either training for knight, physician or maybe sorcerer too but he hasn't decided yet, or even training for advisor under Cherry's wing. For the time being he just study with Reki.
Now in this au's Prince Langa main trouble is he feeling lonely or incomplete, Reki being the sun he is complement him and his trouble is of course his self confidence, I want to keep it that way even if Reki is the prince now.
So Langa feel not sad anymore but definitely off since his dad died, he used to love traveling with him, try new things, he loved the most all the things he could learn from the items he got to sell, he wanted to be a merchant like him but now he is not sure anymore, that's why that for now he is just studying along with the prince as he decides what he want to do with his life, he is not unhappy but he can't help but feel there is something missing, that's it until he meets the ray of sunshine that is Prince Reki, the royal is gentle and unlike other royal member he has met (due both if his parents jobs) he doesn't treat the rest with superiority, he traits everyone the same, with kindness, a warm and genuine smile, he actually doesn't act like how he was taught princes are supposed to act, he is loud and very energetic, he is polite and all, but he doesn't emanate an aura of someone to be afraid off or someone you feel intimidate with, he makes you feel like you are with a friend, he will talk and talk enthusiastically to no end... unless you show him you were bored, which was not rare to happen, with the prince being too kind and easygoing is was easy for others to forget he was the prince. But Langa could hear him for hours and never get bored, Reki showed him the palace and different places of the kingdom, he show him his drawings, all his crafts, the prince was incredible with smithy, he designed most of the best warriors' armors, as well as some of the innovative artifacts that helped so much in the kingdom, he showed him his passion for his realm and his passion for his hobbies, he was amazing... it's such a shame the prince is not capable to see it himself.
Reki for his part, he is the genius, creative sunshine we know. He is energetic and almost all the people loves him. Almost, because there is still the royal and nobles assholes that think he won't be a proper ruler because of his personality. As well as the people that get fed up with his energy. Those all are the people less liked in the kingdom. Though is really a trouble that the royal ones hold such power, because they really chose violence when it comes to Reki's self confidence. Especially because the most deep root for his insecurities comes from no other than his passed away father.
The king was... not a good man, the kingdom was not in ruins but the people were not happy, his family was not either, he would lash out to his wife and daughters, telling them they were good just to show of, to serve him, he was abusive with this staff on the palace and to his people, but who got the worst treatment was the young prince, since a child Reki was unquiet, loud, energic, totally the opposite to a centered, reserved and serious prince, he was also too kind with everyone no matter how much he told him he was above all the people, but Reki refused to be rude or mean to anyone, the only people that he lashed out to were the rude and cruel royals that abused of their power and were mean to people with no status or power. The king ruled with an iron fist and with stronger severity he tried to rise his heir, but Reki's golden heart was always stronger, however it didn't protected him from the abuse, the hard punishments and the constant reminders of how a failure he was, how he was worthless, how he was a mistake, how easy it would be for him to replace him if not were for the fact he needed a boy of royal blood to be his heir and he had no one, how annoying he was, that there was something wrong with him. And all the people that thought the same as his father had no seconds thoughts to remind him of the same in every. Single. Opportunity.
It was such a relief when the king died from a mysterious illness, and if anyone ever thought about it as a coup from the queen and the royal staff? Well nobody blamed them, but that was just a rumor and they were fine without him anyways.
Indeed, after the king's death the Kingdome went through a prosperity that haven't been seen in years. Despite what the king and his lackyes believed the Queen was actually a very well skilled ruler, she fixed the mess her former husband made and bring a new era to her people, she made new allies, she cleaned the corrupted government and brought new opportunities to the kingdom of Okinawa, the people were happy again. And her son, his ideas for artifacts to make certain tasks easier, his enthusiasm about cultural development, not mention that despite what his father said Reki was really smart, a total pride for his tutors even if his chaotic nature gave them green hairs, also his ideas to improve the army of the Kingdome, his ideas helped a lot to their realm's development. Many people called him the inventor prince.
However there were some royal asses that were not happy with him, there were invertors for that, there were artists, musicians, artisans for the cultural things, a prince shouldn't be look being so friendly and informal to commoners, shouldn't be so loud and idiot.
Not to mention the people that just... were fed up with his chit chat, and okay, they get it, Reki's personality could be overwhelming and even obnoxious to some people, but they needed to be so rude about it? The fact that must of this people were royal visitors didn´t help at all, Reki just felt he was embarrassing his mother and the Kingdome, no matter how many time she and the royal advisor Kaoru told him otherwise, or the fact that those people were usually not good allies at all.
Years of abuse and constantly hearing how a waste you were are hard to heal.
But, the love and support of the people that truly loved him helped Reki a lot, it was a long path but he was getting there. Though, the person that were really close to him, and you know who these persons are, know that sometimes the thoughts gets too loud on Reki's head, but they are there for him, and are happy to see that everyday the sunshine prince is doing better and better.
Well, and then of course the boys met and all of that, they help each other to find what was missing, to discover how much loved and worth they are.
The Queen and the court physician ship them, because this is my fucking au and I say love is love, you are who you are, no labels :)
Kaoru, Kojiro, Miya and Hiromi are definitely fondly exasperate with their mutual pining and just want them to just kiss already and spare their poor souls out of their misery.
About Ad*m... I don't know yet honestly.
In one hand I'm so tempted to make him not existing in this au. On the other hand he could be a major villain, maybe a lord wanting to make coup to the kingdome with Tadashi being a spy loyal to Queen Kyan. And I really want Langa to beat the shit out if him for messing up with his sun, but well, idk.
Any thoughts about this? Feel free to ask! 👀

Reki and Langa’s dynamic
It’s speculation at my part and a shameless rant on what i like about sk8 just to get it off my chest I’ve been so fixated help
it’s 5am I’m at uni and i have a shit ton to do, am I really gonna make an essay about sk8 instead? yes abso-fucking-lutely. strap on to your metaphorical skateboards kids. this is going to be long ride
this isn’t to call out anyone lol so in case you get that impression I’m sorry. I understand everyone is out to interpret media in whatever they like and that’s fine, but sometimes i feel like either some missed some points of the story? anyway here are my thoughts tho
alright so what i absolutely love about sk8 is how they didn’t make anyone into a genius.Genius is a mockery of the hardships everyone does to attain that level of skills. And no Langa is not a genius or a prodigy which I will explain later. I’ve seen enough shounen animes back in the day and usually it’s ‘annoying heart of gold beginner vs. calm and collected genius’ they usually hate each other’s guts and bicker all the time though secretly, deep down care for each other but would rather die than admit it dynamic. While I’m glad we’re moving past that, I really thought Reki and Langa would be like that so....
imagine my surprise when Langa was the ‘beginner’ in skating. He has the potential to be a second sasuke here lol. (blue, handsome, cool) but no he isn’t. he’s an adorable idiot, an airhead, head empty only skating dude and i love it.
Reki as well. He could have been the usual protagonist. (sucks at his sport, loud, hardworking, and by the power of friendship he suddenly beats everyone else which i think is pretty overused at this point, don’t you think?) some people complain how Reki despite being the MC isn’t given screentime and hasn’t won a single beef. (and sure that’s true. he should have won some and langa lose some but we only have 12 eps so lol) but he’s not the usual protagonist you know? and sk8 isn’t about winning. if it was, I think they would have focused on the techniques. the hows and the what to do.
Idk if you noticed, but sports anime with winning in its goal would often explain in detail certain techniques. (see haikyuu) but shows like Free and Yuri on Ice isn’t exactly talking about how to win that seriously as Haikyuu did. It’s more focusing on the feelings and how their lives are affected with their passion for this sport. it’s about the character development!!! and i think SK8 is something like that too. It explores the character’s feelings rather than sport. (like what i tell my sister, they use the sport as a character device if that makes sense?)
Tumblr media
this was literally in the opening lol. it’s really about the feelings you know?
so anyway it’s been pointed out several times that Reki was already feeling insecure about his skills in skating since ep 1 way before Langa came. But he still likes to skate and despite feeling never enough, he still enjoyed it. (some also pointed out that Reki’s reason of going into a beef against Shadow has been because he insulted his way of skating not because he wanted to be the best) so the show from the get go was already hinting at his self esteem issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this also implies that Reki has always been feeling like this in a while, added with his tendencies to bottle things up, it makes sense that he’ll blow up at some point and he’ll need to release all of those feelings. (so yeah i think this is just the right amount of eps for their fall out. i see some people complaining shush. otherwise it would also feel too rushed. this is years weighing him)
Tumblr media
and i guess it’s also implied in here he’s had days like these too in the past! seriously it’s an ongoing problem he’s been carrying. i think 3 eps is pretty good enough pace to internalize it
so point: Reki was already down way before Langa came. langa just added to that. And don’t go blaming Langa cause the boy did nothing wrong.
Consider that Langa just lost his dad (i think we need more backstory on this though. please sdsjkdksl i need little Langa and his dad interactions) he just moved countries, and the only connection to his dad (snowboarding) is gone cause it doesn’t snow in OKinawa
Tumblr media
though one also argues that Langa hasn’t been snowboarding since his dad was gone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so for Langa, Reki introducing skating to him was revolutionary. You’re someone grieving over the death of what is probably the most important person in your life, the thing you love the most no longer gives you joy (as was shown in the flashbacks and basically Langa going ‘it’s the same’) and you’re in a new country with a language you barely are fluent. you can’t even read or write, and you barely have friends granted you don’t have much back in the day. it’s horrible.
and then this guy you barely know talks to you, befriends you, helps you get a job, and teaches you something you thought you’ve lost and through that you made more friends??
Tumblr media
yeah you see why Langa likes Reki. You also see why he’s obsessed with skating. It’s kind of like a coping, a fixation. plus he’s bad with social cues i guess? the interview says he’s likely to get dumped for being too inattentive lmao and that’s what makes him interesting!
also the thing that really surprised me when they first interacted was how supportive Reki is to Langa. it also got to me with how much Langa thinks highly of Reki. Again a deviation to the ‘i say i hate you but deep down i care for you’ trope. they’re full on supportive and protective. i like that. it’s fresh to me. I thought Reki was going to the tsundere ‘hmph that’s not a big deal’ route at the start of ep 2 but he’s really amazed. (kinda also says he’s been very desperate for someone to share skating with but that’s another topic)
so Reki teaches Langa how to skate. and Langa sucks. Which was interesting to me because I thought Langa would be some flawless prince-like character. But nah. He trips and faints at his own blood lol. He’s so uncool and i love it.
Some people say Langa is over powered with a thick ass plot armor which gets him to win (which is why i see people saying he should have won against Joe and I actually agree that Langa should lose some beefs but again only 12 eps, so little time)
but I still wanna talk about it anyway so it’s revealed Langa was snowboarding since 2. That’s 15 years. I think that should be around the same time Joe and Cherry should be skating. and i think if you start earlier as a kid, your body develops differently. (should Langa, “an amateur” win against Joe a pro? the question falls more on whether you can classify Langa as an amateur) i think it’s like Langa being very used to motorcycle tricks from age 2 then suddenly he’s using a regular bicycle, and sure the feeling is mostly the same but there’s just something off. Your body doesn’t easily forget what you know, especially if it did it for 15 years. and so Reki customizes a board for Langa so it’ll feel exactly like snowboarding
So Langa has a customized board that he needed to get used to before he went pro. He really sucked the first few eps lmao. but that’s more of him getting used to the new rules. he pretty much told Reki in ep 2 that he can’t do a skateboard ollie, but he can do a snowboard one bec it’s attached to his feet.
(i may just want to add that one thing i also like about sk8 is that it really doesn’t care what you need for accommodation? if that’s how you do it best, then go for it. When Langa says to Reki he can’t do the ollie without the board attached to his feet, Reki immediately goes his way to accommodate him. usually people in real life might say ‘it’s not real skateboarding if you need a modification etc. but look at Cherry with a freaking AI board and people are like yeah whatever do what you want man. whatever rolls your board.)
so anyway Langa vs. Joe with Langa winning despite being an amateur? if you can even call him an amateur that is. Plus all his tricks are snowboarding tricks lol. everything he’s done is testament to his 15 years of snowboarding?? We don’t even know how good Langa is in snowboarding. Someone make a post about how difficult the snowboarding equivalent of those tricks Langa has done just to show people it means he’s pretty pro (I’ll even argue maybe Langa’s real talent is his creative ways of going around things which kind of why Adam is highkey obsessed, and calls Cherry who calculates everything to the last second boring but that’s a different can of worms I’m opening later) plus Langa barely won against Joe so there’s not much difference in level i think. Should Langa have lost though?
I think some have missed the point of that beef in Reki’s pov. and if the Renga reconciliation is done well, it would be worth it.
Tumblr media
that beef got Reki to realize he what he really wants! that it’ll kill him if he can’t skate anymore! that he doesn’t wanna only cheer on for others and be a support! THAT HE WANTS TO SKATE BY LANGA’S SIDE WHICH IS THE REASON FOR ALL THIS INSECURITIES if Langa lost, that cathartic realization might not have happened. He might have gone to Langa and cheered him up, brushed off his insecurities and, made up with Langa halfheartedly without addressing his problems
I’m going to go back to Reki’s insecurities. In ep 6 he’s been afraid of being left behind, and sure Langa came back for him but he still forgot until midway. (will that parallel how Langa got too excited with the idea of skating, the same feeling he thought he lost forever. The same thing that he thinks connects him with his dad, and might have left Reki behind, but later remembers and goes back to chase him? hopefully) in ep 4 it’s obvious he’s afraid of the near death experience Adam gave him, and he’s just realized how different their skills were. in ep 5 he worries about Langa, enough to get nightmares about it. mixed with his friend getting hurt. it’s obvious the feelings are very very muddled there.
So he begs Langa not to skate with Adam.
And what did Langa do? say that he wanted to skate with Adam. (again he’s not the most attentive. he probably thinks he’s just skating with his best friend, all is good then boom. Reki leaves. as a person shit with dealing with other people, i don’t blame him at all) he’s trying to fix it though, but his bond with Reki primarily revolves around skating! how else was he going to warm up with Reki? He also doesn’t know that Reki has self esteem issues that’s always been there since the beginning. He probably doesn’t understand it too because he holds Reki up highly. in ep 6 when Reki was going over his board, Langa thinks he’s pretty cool. he didn’t hear what other said to Reki. He’s earnestly having fun with his friend
We should also note that Reki was never angry at Langa’s skills, he wasn’t resentful that Langa was far ahead. Again he’s been nothing but supportive. He doesn’t want to pull Langa down. He wasn’t like Miya’s friends that lashed out at Miya for being better. in ep 7 he tries his best to follow Langa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it feels like he’s mostly regretful that he can’t catch up. he doesn’t want Langa to slow down, he wants to go faster and meet him where he was. So it makes the realization that all he wants to do was be in equal with Langa more frustrating because he thinks he can’t keep up. (and this only ever started when he heard he’s like Langa’s plus one. there’s that daunting feeling about being pulled around. not being his equal)
Tumblr media
if you need further proof, when Langa and Joe were having a beef, he wasn’t aggressively hoping Langa would lose. in fact he encouraged him. He worries deeply He calls him out when he was doing badly. Still very supportive as ever. So really the frustration isn’t to Langa, again, it’s all internal. He wants to be better
so he’s feeling shit and Langa goes to him in the middle of the rain, bless langa for trying, thinking talking about skating (what he thinks Reki loves and would probably cheer him up, not knowing that’s exactly his problem) tells him
Tumblr media
which is probably the worst he could say.
THAT’S what got Reki mad, not really Reki being insecure though that’s part of it, that’s what they’re fighting about, Reki is angry he’s breaking his promise. He thinks Langa doesn’t care about Reki, that he’ll easily break a promise between them that Reki obviously cares about just so he can go skate with Adam who is way better than him. It blows to the self esteem. Reki probably also think that if only he was better, langa wouldn’t bother skating with someone that dangerous. it doesn’t help at all.
but langa doesn’t know this. he doesn’t see all this. Langa might have been too up the high of skating like in ep 6, he sorta left Reki behind again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it kinda makes Langa’s mom’s words hit harder though
Tumblr media
and he did just that. he got too engrossed.
It parallels adam, cherry and joe’s friendship then probably tadahsi’s too but who knows? reki and langa, and tadashi and adam might parallel too, the master and the student thingy Adam might have gotten too obsessed. So Joe trying his best to make sure Reki and Langa won’t end up like them hits a little harder in my chest ;’)
but Langa won’t be to engrossed i think
because unlike Adam who’s aggressively looking for his ‘equal’, Langa is just looking for someone who makes his heart beat, to make him feel like he’s skating with his dad again, someone he loves dearly. (there’s a parallel about loves here too between Adam’s and Langa’s. but I can’t write it now) and he probably already thinks Reki is his equal anyway. He just wants to have fun. he doesn’t think much about the skills.
maybe at first he does. that’s why he’s drawn to Adam but from ep 9, it was pretty much shown that skills really doesn’t matter from when he skated against Joe
Tumblr media
if Adam easily discarded his friends because he think they’re boring (which was why the whole skateboard to the face thing with Cherry), langa doesn’t think like that
if anything Reki is important to Langa because he only has fun skating with Reki, who taught him how to skate and made his board. (his board that was customized to fit his style btw, and arguably the only reason he could skate that well. without it, he might as well be a beginner once again.) so without reki, langa is left with nothing. especially with his broken board
Tumblr media
no fun in skating, no way of skating. He’s only manage to get this far because of Reki and he knows that now. All of it would be pointless if he doesn’t have Reki (and either he gets so obsessed in chasing that feeling again, or he stops completely) but in case you haven’t noticed it, Langa’s motivation revolves around having fun with skating no matter the skill or place. And he’s having most fun with Reki.
But Reki obviously doesn't know Langa’s feelings. He thinks Langa was forever looking for someone better. So he’s still caught up in the idea that Langa won’t want to skate with him (even though Langa has never shown this) and he left S entirely, thinking what he wants is impossible. fucking just talk you two motherfucker
(I also wanna point out that Reki has always been shown from episode one to be good at making boards. And that’s amazing? We need some support recognition and appreciation, seriously) I think maybe most who find problem with Reki not winning beefs like the usual shounen protags aren’t used to the nuance and perspective of being someone ‘ordinary’. Reki’s character is relatable because most of us feel ordinary, never enough, surrounded by geniuses, ‘inferior’. And if we’re being realistic since a lot are saying joe should have won because langa winning is unrealistic and you want realism so bad no I’m not salty at all there will always be someone better than you. ALWAYS. but what’s important is for you to have fun in what you love! in what makes you happy! AND even if you’re not good at one thing (in Reki’s part, skating) he’s also good at other things (making boards) so does he need to stop one for the other? no. He’s shown to enjoy skating with Langa, he doesn’t wanna stop it hurts him so much he quit. But he can also hone his skills in making boards as well as skate. He’s equal with Langa in a way he doesn’t even notice when he made that board for Langa, but even Reki’s presence alone makes Langa enjoy skating the way Reki also wants Langa by his side.
So I think the next ep is the best time to confront all these feelings. And how it happens might be what’s tricky. Like romantic or not, i personally can read it both ways though i prefer if they do become canon. (idk if it’s queerbaiting. i guess friends can care as deeply as that but ngl, these shounen bestfriends having deep connections that are written off as friends while also giving us bland af hetero love interests who did nothing but exist and be straight really is messing with my perception of romantic and platonic love irl) anyway their talk better be done really well, or else all those episodes of tension would be for nothing
It’s a nice perspective to give a shounen protagonist this time. It’s new, it’s fresh. How many incarnations of underdog turned the best at their craft can you take? variety is nice! and if you don’t like it, there are always a dozen other animes like that for you to turn to. to conclude, IT ALL GOES BACK TO THE START: WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS???! AND FOR THEM IT’S THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP BUT IN A VERY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. FRIENDSHIP DOESN’T  SUDDENLY GET YOU TO LEVEL 100000000000 TO DEFEAT THE FINAL BOSS. FRIENDSHIP IS WHAT MAKES DEFEATING THE FINAL BOSS WORTHWHILE
Anyway tldr; maybe the real Eve is the friends we made along the way :D  and idk if I’m making sense but obviously I’m head empty only sk8. Renga needs to talk, i can’t believe they have the audacity to make a recap episode as if i wasn’t head empty only sk8 since february, and if there’s more emotional edging to come, i will burn some of the palm trees outside my house

Middle Thoughts: SK8 The Infinity
Type: Anime
Title: SK8 The Infinity
Genres: Sports anime
Progress: 10/12, though refers more to 6/12
Spoilers Below
I feel like there's a few things I should preface about myself before starting. For one, I've been pretty burned out from anime as of late, or at least new anime. As for as anime watching goes, I've pulled back to rewatch some of my old favorites and finally get to some of those films I've been meaning to watch forever. Secondly, I rarely watch airing anime. There was a point where I started following that trend so I could join in some of the conversations of my friends and the anime community I was in, only to quickly realize why I didn't do it in the first place. Watching an anime when it's airing, depending on what anime you're watching, usually means you're constantly stuck on cliffhangers. It also means that, if whatever you're watching it on is a little bit behind or you're watching the dub, you are destined to just be swamped with spoilers by people that completely forgot that crowd exists. It's just really annoying to deal with, especially for someone like me who tends to binge shows they're really enjoying. The last airing show I watched was Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai back in 2018 and have managed to avoid airing anime ever since.
All of that being said, a show must be pretty darn good for someone like me to break their avoidance streak. A dub must be really, really good for someone like me to watch it over the sub, despite the fact the sub has finished airing and the dub has not. SK8 The Infinity as a show definitely, so far, lives up to my decision, and the dub only makes it even better.
Watching the SK8 dub gave me a feeling I never thought I'd feel in anime again. Well, actually, it gave me multiple feelings I believed other anime couldn't give me anymore, which is why I have certain anime on my favorites in the first place. Watching the dub specifically brought me back to my first time watching Durarara. Yes, I watched the dub and, after having come back to rewatch the sub with my partner, to me, it simply doesn't compare. The dub of that show completely entranced me. Every voice actor played their character wonderfully and in such an interesting way, even for the characters I disliked, their performance was unforgettable to me. Not to mention all the added humor that just made it all the more enjoyable, some of the jokes completely void in the sub or without the same kick. The dub performances will always be the way I see the characters, they're iconic.
Watching the first episode of the SK8 Infinity dub made me feel the same way. I was immediately drawn in by the way each voice actor played their characters, they did such a great job at portraying them in such a unique way. Not to mention the nuanced emotions shown at the beginning, which is only built on in later episodes in such a gut-wrenching way. Then, just like Durarara, there's the humor. I wasn't aware until some people pointed it out to me, but some of the funniest lines aren't in the sub or simply aren't delivered as hilariously. It's amazing how a few word changes and delivery can really make a joke all the more better, or Hell, add an extra layer entirely. However, that's not the only layer the dub adds. Let's just say the viewers weren't the only ones that support renga and matchablossom and it really shows in the best ways.
That being said, the dub voice actors still need a good script and characters to work off of, and this show provides that in spades. All the characters feel entertaining, rich, and I found myself wanting to learn a lot about all of them. All the characters have so much charm and I think the dub really highlights that. As for the story, the relationships and the dramas showcased don't ever feel one-note or neglected. The drama and conflict of the story constantly had me thrilled rather than rolling my eyes, which is thanks to the way the races are presented (more on that later) and all the emotional investment the characters put into it. It also follows my favorite trope of biting off more than you can chew and getting caught up in something much bigger than yourself, so maybe I'm biased.
SK8 The Infinity also has that certain element I think other sports anime are missing. It's what Yuri!!! On Ice had, focusing a lot more on making each performance theatrical, entrancing, with a focus on the character's passion and drive over realism. I want the characters to win not for the sake of winning, but because they put a part of themselves into each performance. It's not that other sports anime doesn't try to do the same, but I tend to either struggle with getting invested in the characters, winning is way too emphasized overall, or the way the sport is showcased is just dull to me. Yes, half of the things the skaters do in this anime are unrealistic, but that's what makes it so fun and unpredictable. I adore seeing the stunts the characters, especially Langa and Adam, pull. They're amazing and the way they're animated are so cool! In my opinion, this is a great example of "action" done "fun". All the characters are pulling out their greatest stunts to win, only getting better and better as time goes on. Still, as an audience member, you don't feel as if anything is artificially being held back from you, the characters are always giving their all, they simply learn or have different opportunities as time goes on. This is probably one of the reasons that Langa becoming too good at the sport so quickly didn't bother me. He's awesome to watch, that and the fact the snowboarding excuse makes sense to me, plus it makes for such an interesting plot point and character conflict. The way the races are portrayed, along with the deep connections of the characters that play into it reminds me of Yuri!!! On Ice a lot.
The last point I want to make is what great main characters Reki and Langa make. Reki is such a relatable character main character and is written really well in this regard. He's insecure without being a brat about it, when he does break down or get upset with the other characters it's completely reasonable. His struggles of not feeling good enough, of allowing himself to be bullied due to a lack of self-worth, among other things, are something a lot of us struggle with. It's been great seeing him go along his journey and finally find support in Langa. Speaking of Langa, apparently, he and Reki were made together (and for each other if you ask me), and it really shows. Langa juxtaposes Reki, yet isn't his complete opposite, nor a rival. In fact, their friendship is not only because of their common ground of loneliness and socialization issues, but also because of their differences and how that makes them work as a team. Unlike Reki, who comes off as very turbulent and cautious at times, Langa can come off as quite confident (with skateboarding) and adores taking risks. Reki effectively serves as Langa's breaks and the voice of reason, while Langa helps Reki come out of his shell and learn to trust. I just love these two together, can you tell?
To summarize, SK8 The Infinity is great, especially the dub. The writing does have some hiccups later down the line that I will discuss in my final review. For now, though, I am rating this really high and am going to finish it. I feel like, no matter how it ends, this is going to become one of my favorites.
Current Rating: 8/10

Worshiping at your altar
“He confesses how long he’s looked
for a place to worship
and, oh, you put him on his knees.”
PROFANE by Ashe Vernon
A Paladin and an artificer fall in love.
Or- how Langa learns that worship comes in more than one form.
ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/30430242
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
One of his earliest memories is this:
He sits by his father’s feet. They are in their living room, in his childhood home back in Canada. There’s a fire crackling behind him, the warmth of the flames licking his back even from the distance. His mother’s steps could be heard in the kitchen, but he can barely focus on that, utterly entranced by Dad’s stories, by the hand softly combing his hair back. He feels safe, comfortable and probably the most at peace he’s ever been.
“A lot of people are going to get hurt tomorrow. All we can do is stand in the way of that and say, 'Not them. Me. If you need to hurt someone, hurt me'”, Dad reads. Langa’s tired eyes look up, eyes tracing the golden letters on the spine of his father’s favorite book, the tale of  ‘How the Paladin Got His Scar’. “Because the alternative is to look at someone else, someone weaker and more vulnerable, and tell them that you want them to be hurt instead of you.”
He squirms a bit in place, and Dad waits, just like every time they reach this part. He’s heard this story hundreds of times, could probably recite it himself from memory alone, but this passage is one that never fails to make him feel off. Weird, uncomfortable. As if he’s failing in some way, because…
“I don’t get it”, he says, like clockwork. Dad’s stopped reading, a single finger keeping the page bookmarked, in preparation for Langa’s usual interruption. Back in the kitchen, his mother’s footsteps fade away, as if she, too, is waiting for her son to ask. “Why do I have to hurt in someone else’s place? I don’t like to be in pain...”
As always, Dad smiles. He’s never mad about Langa’s selfishness, but, again, a five year old can’t really be expected to understand self sacrifice like this, no matter his Class. He never stops patting Langa’s head on his lap.
“It’s not about our pain. It’s about others’ joy.”
There’s usually where it stops, his curiosity sated, and lets Dad go back to his reading and Mom to her cooking. But Langa remembers something else, a new question bubbling up from him. He was in that age, Mom would say, where children stop taking everything their parents say at face value.
“But I thought us paladins were supposed to only serve a God? Why should we care about other people?”
It sounds awfully mean, he knows, but his father only laughs.
“We are not Clerics, son. As much as divine beings love us, we’re not bound to them. That’s why we have our Vow, remember? We can choose. I wasn’t forced to serve the Snow Deities, I wanted to do it. And I never regretted it.”
Langa’s frustration only grows more.
“But I don’t want to do that! To… to give...me-self…”
“Myself”, he remembers Mom calling softly from the doorway, but never how or when she got there. Only his father’s patience as Langa tried again:
“I don’t want to give myself away like that.”
“That’s because you haven't found your Worship yet, Langa. You’ll know, when you do. Because taking your Vow…”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Moving to Okinawa feels strange, in more than one way.
For starters, it's weird to adore the Snow Deities with no snow in sight. But, to be completely honest (as he tends to be), he hadn’t felt any real pull in his nightly adoration. Not ever since his father died.
(How could he offer sincere praise to the beings that sent dad to his death?)
Still, he kept up with it. As a Paladin with no Vow, he’s taken to adoring the Snow Deities the same way a chronic smoker would use an e-cig.  Not the same, not nearly as invested, but it scratches the itch he can feel building inside him (his divinity begging for release, for reverence, for him to fall to the ground in awe) just well enough that he doesn’t go insane. It’ll be different, once he’s worshipping for real, his mom tells him. He’s not overly enthusiastic about the idea.
Something else that’s different is the quests. Official ones are offered in schools or extracurricular centers, just like back home, but he can’t even begin to imagine himself fighting his way through forests instead of frozen mountaintops. And just what creatures would he even be fighting? Snow Wassets, Kamaitachis, Wendigos… They were all born from ice, and darkness, and cold. Not exactly your native Okinawan monster.
He sighs, head resting against the car window. Watching the trees fly past as mom drives them to their new place, he starts to feel the itch under his skin again. Moving so far away had helped, the deities’ reach weak against the warmth of this land, but still notable enough to demand attention.
It’s annoying, painful at times, and the last thing he wants to do after losing his dad- but he closes his eyes, spite burning at his core like acid, and adores.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
He’s laying on the floor- no sword in sight, vulnerable, helpless to this person approaching him at high speed, unrelenting- but the pain never comes.
Opening his eyes, he looks up. And time stops, just like it did every time Langa interrupted his father during story time for a question. The world itself holds its breath, waiting for him to catch up.
And he stares at this boy, suspended above him. He sees his red hair, contrast jarring against blue skies. Sees golden eyes, bright and open and full of a life that seems to be avoiding him.
His senses are telling him- he’s a human. There’s no divinity in him, no godliness.
But his heart beats hard, almost pushing his chest open, and he’s breathing the air this boy left behind when he jumped over him. And he feels a spark catching fire behind his eyes, travelling down to his stomach, and nesting there in a way that suggests ‘I’m in no rush to leave’.
And he thinks, briefly- no one ever told me that Fire Deities liked to skate in Okinawa.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
He learns the boy’s Class before his name. He’s an artificer, and he’s called Reki.
He thinks it means something, that he introduces himself like that, but Langa isn’t sure what, because all he can hear is an echo of his voice and the afterglow of the smile he shoots his way.
Reki becomes too much, too fast. He shows Langa his favorite invention, a magic skateboard, and he himself feels instantly charmed by the simple genius he exudes. He’s helpless as he follows Reki to the shop he works on, where he finds himself employed as well before he can even catch his bearings. Something about his divinity being harnessed for potions, and protecting the store. He’s not hearing very faithfully, but it sounds good enough that he nods. Without his weekly quests to the mountains, there’s few other ways for him to earn his own money and help support his mother. Though he can’t deny he’ll miss the thrill of it...
Then Reki takes his hand again, and he solves that problem as well.
The S circuit, an illegal quest spot. A rocky mounting, with its surrounding forest littered with abandoned buildings, chock full of all sorts of creatures to hunt, or other adventurers to spar; not for the money, or the honor, but for fun.
Fun is a weird concept for Langa, these days, but he can’t deny the thrill he feels when he burrows Reki’s sword (it's not like the other boy can use it, with his hand hurt as it is) and forces the man that wanted to bring pain to his new friend to the ground. When he’s standing up, looking down at this Rouge, hearing Reki’s excited screams getting closer and closer until the boy is near enough to jump to Langa’s arms, he thinks… that if this is what Dad felt on his quests, it’s no wonder he gave up his life in one of them.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
He’s never met an artificer before, and Reki has never encountered a Paladin either. It's an experience for both of them.
Reki seems determined to make Langa a new sword, one that adapts to the training he received back in Canada but that he can use here, in S. It’s a challenge for him, he says, and Langa doesn’t mind the long hours spent in Reki’s workshop, as the boy tries new materials, different welding techniques and a wide variety of spells, exchanging questions back and forth.
Learning about Reki feels a little like when Dad taught him how to fight, everything new, shiny, a little scary but at the same time so safe. He finds out that his friend still hasn’t decided on a specialty, and that choosing one is in a way a little like a Paladin taking a Vow, and at the same time, nothing at all. They focus on a single path, do their best to become masters of it, but once it's perfected, they are free to pursue a different one. He’s secretly enchanted by the idea- the freedom of it. Or maybe it’s just Reki that makes him feel like that.
“I thought you guys just… fought for good? You know, to save people, end wars, stuff like that?”
Langa lays back, weight resting on his arms as he looks up to the stars . They are outside for a change, as Reki is trying to cast a few attack spells on the sword (as in, writes runes and splashes potions over the blade, occasionally cutting himself on it; Langa longs to take it away from him before he loses a finger), and refuses to do so in the relative fragility of indoors. The night sky is very pretty, the company is good, and he feels too comfortable for someone sitting on the ground.
“That’s what’s told in schools and stories, but reality is different”, he answers, eyes dancing between the stars and Reki’s eyes (just as bright, just as pretty). “‘Good’ and ‘bad’ are very subjective terms. What’s alright in some cultures is a sin in others.”
“One man’s heaven is another man’s hell”, Reki murmurs, stopping his motions as he thinks Langa’s words through.
Langa nods. “Paladins- we do have a connection to the Gods, in a way. So it’s very common for us to give our Vows to them. But, unlinke Clerics, we’re not irredeemably bound, so there’s more of a choice factor. A Paladin can give their Vow once in their life, and then has to commit to it, but that we can decide who or what to Vow to is our form of freedom.”
Reki looks back at Langa then, sword almost forgotten in his lap. They were sitting quite close, now that he thinks about it, barely enough space between them to fill with a whisper. His entire right side felt scalding hot, like when he was a child back home and sat a little too close to the fireplace.
That heat spreads to the rest of his body when Reki throws his head back and laughs.
“That’s the longest I’ve ever heard you talk, dude!”
Time resumes, the night moves on, Langa walks home. But the warmth never leaves his body.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Reki being an artificer doesn’t stop him from participating in quests and spars. He throws himself into them, headfirst, like he’s desperate to prove something to himself. He only ever seems to take it easy when he takes Langa with him; when he holds his hand as he walks him through the differences and similarities of adventures back home and here. Rattles out information about monsters jumping them in the woods, and statistics about the adventurers they stumble upon. He seems like a never ending fountain of information, and oh is Langa thirsty.
He doesn't think he’ll ever get tired of hearing Reki speak. And even when he slowly becomes better at it, when the newness of the creatures crawling the forest stops scaring him and he feels comfortable enough to set loose and have fun, he still clutches Reki’s hand in his. And together, they brave whatever the fates throw their way.
It's more fun, that way.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
He spends the night over at Reki’s place a lot in the following weeks. They both seemed full of excuses for him to stay, to fall asleep side by side, skin on skin. Reki’s hands, always twitching for his tools to tinker with, slowly stilling, peaceful, when Langa holds them between his.
He doesn’t realize until after many, many nights together like this- that, distracted as he was with his friend, he’d totally forgotten to praise and adore. The itch of murmuring in awe about the Deities has all but vanished from him, and its- it's a freedom he had never known before.
(Reki’s hands are smaller than his, so even when he holds them, folded and sweet, the tips of his fingers meet, like a small roof over Reki’s knuckles.
It looks like he’s praying, and he wonders if that’s why the Snow Deities had left him alone. If it’s because they see these sleeping boys, see the peace in the young Paladin’s resting face, and think- ‘this one is already lost in adoration’.)
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
This must be what a role reversal feels like, he thinks. Paladins are supposed to be this- this paragon of goodness, righteousness.
But Reki is the one that, after Langa had defeated the young Sorcerer in combat, offers a hand and a smile. Even when the kid has thrown nothing but insults his way, Reki still stands straight and proud in front of him when a new enemy appears. Challenges this newcomer to a spar, to protect someone he should not be giving a fuck about.
And when the Warlock crushes him to the ground, his artifacts destroyed and blood painting the arena, he still looks Langa’s way with an apology in his eyes.
Langa remembers when he was younger, when he wondered how someone would choose pain to protect others from it. He still can’t understand the desire to do so for a complete stranger, but for Reki-
He would brave way worse dangers than an obsessed Warlock for Reki.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
He’s drowning-
He’s drowning for days on end. The flame eating at his flesh from the inside has been burning bright ever since his interrupted combat with Adam, the press of his steel armor- Reki’s armor- against his chest worsening the pain. It fills his lungs, his core- doesn’t let him breath. He didn’t know that it was possible to suffocate in fire.
-but it's not until Reki walks away from him under the pouring rain, that he understands that the pain of drowning is nothing compared to the emptiness of death. That the itch to fight Adam pales in comparison to the all-encompassing desperation of his yearning for Reki.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
He holds Reki’s hands under the stars again, and painful fire becomes soft warmth. It takes him back to his childhood, to sitting by his dad’s feet, head on his lap, hearth at his back, mom moving around in the kitchen.
He’s on his knees in front of Reki, but it’s the other boy the one who whispers words of reverence. He’s looking down at Langa, washed in moonlight and surrounded by divinity, and there’s defeat and victory in his face all at once.
He looks like he’s fallen, but he’s happy about it.
Langa is-
“I’ve decided about my specialization”, Reki confesses. His eyes don’t wander, his hands aren’t twitching. He looks the most secure in himself Langa has ever seen him. It fills his chest with a warm sort of pride. “I’ll become a Battle Smith. They are experts at defending others and repairing both materiel and personnel”, he continues, one hand dislodging itself from within the protective cocoon of Langa’s hold to trace the contours of his face. Langa feels it when he finds the thin scar in his cheek, from his latest spar in S. His fingertips tremble a bit as they touch it.
“Why?” he asks, because he knows Reki longs, too, for the thrill of a quest, for the joy of surviving the dangers thrown his way.
“I can always make my own weapons, there’s no need for me to make a specialty out of it”, he shrugs, as if reading Langa’s mind, “so I’m good to participate in quests myself. But if you’re gonna insist on throwing yourself headfirst into unprecedented danger, the least I can do is make sure you’ll be damn well protected against everything you can’t kill on sight.”
All air leaves Langa’s lungs, but at the same time, it’s like he’s never really breathed before this exact moment. He imagines being a worshipped Deity can’t feel all that different.
And he remembers his Dad again, his words when he first told him about Vows.
‘Taking your Vow isn't subjecting yourself to a leash; it's not about servitude. To Worship is to feel the highest you've ever been, even while down on your knees’
Kneeling before Reki, holding one of his hands between his, feeling the other one caressing his cheek, looking up at his face outlined by the moon... it’s like he has stars at his fingertips and fire in his veins. He’s flying with it, touching the sky but standing straight and firm as well.
He’s never felt this way. He doesn’t want it to ever stop.
So he bends his head down over Reki’s hand, eyes closing in reverence and lips touching rough, calloused skin. And in the silence of the night, the words of his Vow sound as loud as if he’d shouted them.
Reki’s hand is in his hair now, like benediction, and he thinks- If falling is this sweet, it’s no wonder so many angels changed their wings for horns, their clouds for fire.
It's just divine luck that he’s now sworn to someone who can give him both.

More Renga brainrot, always more - Art Edition
On days when Reki is injured or when his body just fucks (his ankle barely supporting his weight, his elbow clicking with every movement, his knee popping every time he bends it) to the point where he can't skate, he likes sitting on the sidelines to sketch while Langa skates
Reki loves sketching and doodling. It keeps his hands busy and calms his overactive brain. Materializing a few of the thousands of ideas that buzz in his head really helps calm him down.
So while he's watching Langa do trick after trick, he'll often find himself doodling Langa's yeti doing whatever it is that Langa's practicing that day
However, if Langa ever tries to look at what he's drawing, Reki will slam his sketchbook shut because he gets super self conscious when people look at his drawings. So unless he's the one wanting to show it, unless he's really proud of his drawing, they stay hidden in his sketchbook, only for him to see
Reki tends to favor a more chibi/doodle style. He likes the simplicity of it and finds the style cute. They're low effort, in a way. They're not as precise as realism or any other style. They're round and bubbly and simple. Reki likes simple. He likes having fun with his art
But Reki is able to draw in other styles. He's able to make big pieces, time consuming and precise. Because even if he favors doodles and little sketches, Reki is an amazing artist that can draw full illustrations
He personally doesn't like his full illustrations, always finding little faults in them, but without that hypercritical eye, his art is beautiful. And the few that Langa is allowed to look at, the few times Reki lets him flip through his sketchbooks, well, he loves them. And he's very vocal about his adoration of Reki's art. His praise goes on and beyond, always so genuine in his admiration. And Reki always snatches his sketchbook back, ducking his head and telling Langa that he's delusional
But Langa means it when he tells Reki he's amazing. Because he loves Reki's art. He loves it so much that he saves every sketch that Reki's crumpled up and thrown out. And in the bottom of one of his desk drawers, there's a pile of sketchbook pages with scribbles on them, pages of trashed art that he looks at every so often, smiling because Reki is amazing at art. Reki is amazing at drawing. Even those doodles he ripped out of his sketchbook
Langa however doesn't have a single artistic bone in his body. He can't dance, he can't draw, he can't take a single picture that isn't blurry, he can't write. Langa is horribly unartistic to the point where it's almost pathetic. He can't even color inside the lines when he's coloring with the twins at Reki's house
Langa is talentless when it comes to the arts, or so he says. Because he does have a talent. He isn't totally talentless. Because he can sing.
Langa can sing, his voice a little lower/deeper than his normal voice. It's steady and beautiful, until he has to hit a high note. Then his voice cracks and he flushes of anyone is around
Langa might be terrible at facial recognition, seeming forgetful and spacey, but he has an amazing lyrical memory. Anything with a certain rhythm, be it a song, a poem, or anything that can be said with a beat, he will remember. That's how he memorizes songs after hearing them once or twice or how he remembers random rhymes he's heard around
Langa is a distracted singer, in the sense that if there's a song playing in the background and he's on his phone or doing whatever, he will sing along. He doesn't think at all when he sings, not even noticing he's singing half of the time
However, he gets self-conscious if anyone points out that he's singing, because he truly believes that he's talentless when it comes to anything artistic. He'll quickly deflect, saying that anyone can sing, that he isn't particularly good at it.
And if he is singing to himself and hears someone walk in, he'll shut up immediately because he truly believes that he isn't good at it. He truly believes that he's a bad singer. He truly believes that making anyone listen to him sing is a burden and that it would be better if he was silent. He absolutely, truly believes that his voice sucks
Unless it's Reki. If it's Reki, Reki telling him that he's so cool, that he's an amazing singer, then he believes him. He'll always believe Reki. And if Reki wants him to keep singing, then maybe he will, but only for Reki and his big, shiny eyes.
